Vash : WHAT'S YOUR TYPE
Wolfwood : Anything, honestly, but nerds especially
Vash, desperately, as Wolfwood bleeds out: YOUR BLOOD TYPE
Wolfwood : Oh! B positive.
Vash : DONT TRY TO CHEER ME UP JUST TELL ME YOUR BLOOD TYPE

Theory: Legato or Wolfwood are what Tesla would have grown up to.
“What do you mean by that, my favourite, derpy lizard,” you ask. To which I say…
I thought long and hard about it, between the twins and their human followers there is one very important and blatant difference in how they have experienced their trauma. Wolfwood and Legato have been direct victims. They have personally endured torture. Vash and Knives witnessed the aftermath of such torture. They are hurt indirectly, accidentally even. Both experiences are painful and I am not making up a hierarchy about which one was hurt the most, because that’s useless.
Though, there is one big difference for me. Neither Vash nor Knives have experienced the helplessness and powerlessness that the other three have experienced. And that is what makes them who they are. Knives becomes a tyrant, always fearing losing control and ending up like Tesla. Vash becomes a people pleasing martyr that denies himself even the slightest care. But they have power. It is their decision and agency, how they use it. Sure, their trauma twists it, but they have, in theory, power to do as they like. Hell, the whole history of No-Man's-Land is them acting how they want. Only they themselves can force them to do something, they are completely independent from outer influences, except the other. And such their sense of community, connection to others and their empathy suffers. If you are completely independent, why would you need to truly connect to anybody? (stares at Vash, but I digress)
The feelings of powerlessness and helplessness are such an important part of Legato and Wolfwood.
For Legato they are the reason why he fawns over the perfect being Knives. Knives is perfect because he is powerful. He can do whatever he wishes to and that is something Legato looks up to. But however craycray Legato is, he knows suffering. Even though it is useless in the grand scheme of things, since Knives will scorch the whole of No-Man’s-Land, he still saves those enslaved women. It would be totally out of character, if it wasn't for the bit that he himself experienced such assaults and thus doesn't want others to experience the same. Even if they would die anyway.
For Wolfwood, while he didn’t experience outright torture (most likely) before joining the orphanage, we get hints that his childhood before wasn’t the easiest. His feelings of powerlessness and receiving a place in the orphanage as a saving grace make him a protector. Someone who endures, so others do not have to. And that is how he endures the outright torture of the EoM. Because he experienced community and selfless help and chose to help the people he cared for likewise. Wolfwood reflects the good he has experienced, for the better and worse.
So, for me, the question is not if Tesla would be similar to one of them, but more akin to: Which experiences would make her develop in either way? Would she become more like Legato if some “Ubermensch” saved her? Or would she become more like Wolfwood, if she has the chance to experience true selflessness and community?

Controversial take????:
Why are the biggest trigun (mainly Vashwood creators) people who so openly ship Vash and Knives- like they aren’t brothers. This mostly stems from the whole zine conversation thing- with big artists getting rejected for their participation in Vash n Knives stuff. Im not gonna get into a proship ass debate, but if you like my art and view my profile and like that stuff- get off my page. I do not want you here. Leave.

i really genuinely believe that of the entire tristamp cast, zazie had the best redesign of them all like ??
not only did we get this epic design but we also got an explanation into their motivations and a much more interesting way of controlling and using the worms than just using a wave frequency device - which can also be used as a tool to watch things from afar !! - AND an even cooler second design with the mask and insect-like face !!!!
just feel like in general people dont talk enough about how cool this redesign was, zazie went from a fairly insignificant, one episode charcater to an actual interesting part of the show that feeds into the worldbuilding and plot a LOT more :D

I love, love, love the subtle world-building of this scene
We can't build them anymore
Not birth, not duplicate, not even create. A century and a half into their history on this planet, and the concept of plants even being alive seems to be distant. Knives might see them as soulless (as Conrad says they both do), but it's obvious the rest of humanity has that same thought, even if there's less logic behind it.

so like, i know we're all into that kind of cute fuzz-ball angel vash, and i get it, i really do, but do you know what we don't talk enough about?
Tumblr media
like, i'm just so much more interested in this. thematically. aesthetically. conceptually. like what's even going on here? i don't know, i just need more of this
vash and knives are not just humans with super powers. that's not what independents are. they are not at all human. they are alien in ways we can't even understand. like the above image is inherently gross and unsettling, that's just how humans have evolved to interpret something like this. and i just think that it's interesting that we as viewers eventually must come to terms with the fact that our silly goofy protagonist that we've been cheering for this whole time is really very inhuman in ways that we are naturally averse to.

Truly crazy that Knives personally handpicked the Guns as disposable weapons. Gave a number to each one of them, including Zazie, an entire planet worth of bugs.
But he did not give one to Legato. His crazy emo boyfriend is just built too different, you see.

I just realize in this scene the male humming voice is not part of the bgm but it’s really Vash’s voice
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As we than see child Vash humming Nai’s song in the memory world
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We learn that it’s actually Vash’s fucking comfort song and Nai’s answering ‘hmm’ is so soft i’m floored.
Is this something that Nai already know so that’s why he keeps playing it everytime he remember Vash? Or is it like a sentiment that they shared together? The only things that stays the same for the two of them even to this day?
But then
Tumblr media
in the closing we get a look of Erick-Vash keep trying to play the tune again and again as he seems to only remember fragments of it, while seemingly mourning on Nai’s death..
This twin brothers i swear to god—

Okay, Wolfwood Headcannon based on this post.
The reason we don't see him with the clerical collar or in clerical clothing is his way of rebelling against the Eye of Michael/Knives, being that the collar is a sign of servitude towards God (e.g. Knives) and the priest not being his own. Nicholas is not his own, he is the weapon, The Punisher, in the hands of the Eye of Michael/Knives.
Wolfwood, the man without agency, denies at least to be visible as a servant. The boy was forced into servitude since his childhood and his plain humanity and his individuality was denied just so that they could make him a weapon. His main battle is the conflict between his very human morals and feelings and his monstrous job.
Wolfwood does not only NOT wear a collar, he even goes to far and does the opposite aka opening his shirt and presenting his chest to the world. Thus, he is very secular, very human, like all the other people on the planet.
Further HC may sprout from this like him only wearing church clothing while on the job could be a presentation of him being purely the Punisher/the weapon at that moment. Like this it would be a way for him to differentiate between Nicholas and the Punisher. But I am rambling.
But I shall end my TED talk here.

what is it with trigun anime adaptations and having to dehumanise knives in order for him to be evil ,,
in tri98 hes just sorta not given much reason to be evil - yes he was verbally and at points physically abused by one member of the crew but not enough of that is shown for the big fall to feel justifiable . he just sorta went off the rails with very little reason to imo , although i cant really blame the show for this as the Tragic Childhood vol of trimax wasnt out yet so they had quite little material to work from
HOWEVER in tristamp they decided on this weird plot of him physically being ‘less human’ like he doesnt need to eat to survive , and personality wise seems very unconcerned with humans . a lot of the tristamp interpretations of the characters differ significantly from their maximum counterparts but this way of portraying knives as well as how his arrogance and superiority beliefs are portrayed … kinda makes my skin crawl . i just really dont know why they did this - a character doesnt have to be ‘not human’ to be evil , and i felt like it ruined knives’ character quite a lot because trimax knives is so different
trigun maximum shows that knives as a child was extremely nervous about being accepted by humans and even shows him crying from relief and happiness after he meets a human other than rem for the first time and he almost instantly accepts him . knives’ character is so interesting in trimax because he was SO caring as a child and that changed drastically because of the trauma he was put through , you definitely feel more of the impact of the tesla incident in maximum
and although knives IS non human , he takes a very human perspective on things , he feels very human emotions . hatred is an inherently human thing . evil is an inherently human thing . a character doesnt need to have inhuman emotions to hate humanity and this is where the anime adaptations miss the mark on knives’ character because they reinforce the idea that he needs to be MORE alien in order to hate

Honestly terrified that enough people immediately hate bombed it for - ‘no Milly’ or ‘I don’t like his new hair’ reasons (without giving it a chance) putting off enough people that it might not end up being popular enough to renew….
I hope I’m just being paranoid - but I saw another ‘it’s not the original show so I hate it’ review on YT and I’m just like….please take off your blinders and give it a chance, genuinely think people can’t comprehend the word reimagining!!!
Also some people still haven’t seemed to grasp that this is almost like a prequel pre-July - characters are developing into what you see in the OG (I assume)- be patient!!!
Studio Orange have given this anime so so much love and attention they deserve so much praise for it! Visually it is STUNNING I can’t entertain the people who say it looks awful, that’s simply not true if you think that I firmly believe you are some weird anime purist crying about how anime must be in 2D or again you’re looking to hate on it.
The ATTENTION TO DETAIL is IMMACULATE - they’ve thought about everything - posts I’ve seen other users explaining much more eloquently than me - Vash has permeant glasses shaped sun burn, they’re in a desert sand is constantly falling out of everything (they’re taking the time to animate this!), Vash’s rein holding - technically accurate (one I can also attest to) and the best one for me - Vash’s marksman skills and his development from a child to an adult (this was such an interesting read by @totallynotsilversora) - the research, time and effort they’ve put in is IMMENSE and I love them for it.
I LOVE you STUDIO ORANGE - I haven’t seen enough people saying it! Thank you for creating such a stunning, detailed, heart wrenching show I’m so sorry you came into hostility and are having to fight it back at every turn - you’d hope some people would put down their blinders and give it a chance but sadly some just won’t.
I did not expect this to turn into such a long rant but man I’m so SICK of people just hating it for not being the original! Especially after writing it off after like one episode - if that’s the case then don’t put your opinion out there to put off others - you were never going to like it you literally hate watched one episode!! 🤬

What I miss in Stampede and I miss it more and more with each episode... are all those people who are just surviving on Gunsmoke, while trying to make the best of it..those people who usually appear only for a moment, but make the place feel much more lively..Living their own stories...They are also a reminder for who its worth surviving and fighting for... All those random, yet charming individuals like: shopkeepers, round grandmas, sheriffs and their deputies, majors, hooligans,  little kids n their parents or guardians, bus drivers, shoemakers, plant technicians, bartenders, fellow travellers, doctors and nurses, postal workers, rude gawkers, soldiers, drunkards, clerks, sandsteamer workers, and gangsters who could change their ways. A WHOLE WORLD OF INTERESTING PEOPLE.
TLDR: I just adore interesting background characters and there are almost none in TRISTAMP
**under the cut is my compillation of some of the background characters from both the manga, few of the 98 episodes.. and like.. most of the background characters from first 7 episodes of stampede..
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
meanwhile trigun stampede is like
Tumblr media
most of the background characters, even the more important ones, who drive the story forward, are either amalgams of many different people from the manga and 98 anime or they are quite bland and too characterless..reduced to parts of the background or collateral... and the world feels much emptier for it. (my love goes to those 3 insect hunters, those guys were great and what i want more of..they were also 2D animated) ...
And not to mention there are only about 8 models of basic citizens with two different skin tones of white, extreme same face syndrome, and most of them are thin except one slightly rounder fella..
there are also only about 2 models of goons for different factions, just with different clothes (the sandsteamer workers are all also the same guy...)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and they all are kinda quiet and vacant... except the masked ones, cause nobody had to animate their lips moving and faces emoting...and except those two ladies who got shredded by knives..
While even more barren world can be charming too, this...
This..this saddens me..
