a few thoughts on the steve-nancy-jonathan situation in s4:

i watched jancy's moments together from all the previous seasons and... i can't help but say that it has to be jonathan who will save nancy in vol. 2. it would just perfectly parallel one of season 1's most iconic scenes where nancy was the first to discover the demogorgan, and jonathan helped her escape the upside down. some people have pointed out that steve is like a living reminder of barb's death to nancy, and i think that's the strongest argument why it will not be him. steve exposes nancy's trauma, while it is said that jonathan shares nancy's trauma. also: who else has expressed his love and connection through music/mixtapes more than jonathan throughout the whole series?

i think (and hope) all this stancy teasing is just classic misdirection. maybe the writers felt that jancy's relationship got stale after 3 seasons of always doing stuff together, so the natural route is to put the relationship under the test to see how they deal with distance and each other's absence.

what jonathan and nancy have in common is that deep understanding that they don't want to end up like their parents, aka walking out on their family (jonathan's dad) or settling (nancy's mom). even though it's rough right now, i really don't see them giving up and going the easy route. they even describe each other as compassionate and stubborn.

i'm not sure though if the writers really know what they're doing with these characters, tbh. i like steve too, but i feel like there has been way too much bias and emphasis on him ever since he became a fan favorite, so i don't want this whole love triangle narrative to be warped for his happy outcome only. it feels so unnatural considering everything that has happened throughout all the seasons, it's like they forgot the entire rest of their show. is it just bad writing or am i going crazy?

anyway, i'm still betting on jancy endgame, so... fingers crossed!
