So I have been working on an au where Lighting is Doc's son, and the Sugarland song 'Love your Babygirl' sums up Mony's early carrier. Having to ask his broke town for a few extra bucks every month or so as he tries to manage his time in the Trucks series were he's getting penny pinched by this team. He wants to send money back, but every time he does it ends up with someone going like 'Were going to need the cash from your paycheck to replace the car you wrecked'. When he finally gets into the cup series Rusty and Dusty let him take his winnings and send it back home. The letters in this case would be to Doc saying 'Hey Pops my sponsors won't let me send home any cash. I need an extra $500.'. Everyone knows that he doesn't want to ask the town for anything, but they know that Monty is their best chance to get this town back on its feet. In turn Doc writes back something along the lines of 'I know kid here's the money use it wisely'.

Random Problem
So, I got too many socks. I ordered socks, but I just got too many. I ordered what I thought was six socks but was actually six pairs of socks. In the end I got twenty for socks.

I just go to say, I love that the fandom made Doc have chronic pain. It just makes sense that the crash would leave him with some internal pain. It also makes thematic sense the crash that he made him leave the racing world would in turn never leave him like his desire to racer.

I love the new designs, both of them. Anakin wearing darker colors as him accepting his dark nature, but still keeping his light that he has. Asoka on the other hand has the darker colors in reference to her master. Both of them in turn have silver to show that they are still apart of the jedi order.

seeing hayden as anakin all these years later, i can’t help but think of happy, loved jedi master anakin… yeah

Cars 3 au
So after Lighting's third cup win, Doc has a heart attack and ends up in a coma for years. Lighting visits him when he can, but in his mind Doc is all but dead. A living corps if you will.
After Storm comes onto the scene, Doc wakes up and begins the process of recovering. He doesn't tell him since he wants to supperise him by showing up at Daytona. Just like the first time. Saddly he doesn't get to do that. Just as he getting the mic on to talk to him, Lighting crashes.
Doc is frozen in fear for a moment as he takes a breath to focus himslef. He then runs to Lighting as emergency personnel come to get him. The last thing Lighting sees before he passes out is Doc's face telling him that he will be alright.
Doc takes this crash hard as he stands watch over Lighting. He waits for him in surgary and plans how he will recover from everything. When Lighting wakes up, he is in shock that Doc is alive and is funtcing well. The last he heard Doc wasn't doing well even in his coma, yet some how when he heard Storm over take him and will, Doc woke up.
The two of them start the road of recovering. Rustezs on the other hand starts demoing Cruz as a new driver. They see her to be a better driver in the long run as Lighting and the team is getting older. Doc hears the news and decides to take Lighting to his hometown to get some practice in.
They meet up with the Barn Stormers, and Lighting starts to learn how to draft. Doc keeps up there old training regimen as they try and get an edge. One night the two of them get into an argument about how lighting thinks this won't work since Doc crashed and never got the chance to recover. Doc keeps trying to tell Lighting that, that's what he trying to avoid.
Unfortulatly for the two of them they here the news that Cruz is the driver for Rusteze and that they dropped Lighitng. At this point Lighting just runs off. Leaving Doc to find him.
Smokey tells Doc that he saw him dash to the trailor. Doc follows that and sees Lighitng pack everything up. Doc ask why and and lighting says what else can he do and trys to leave. They then have a long conversation about how Lighting can't leave and that yes Doc has no clue what to do now, but they will make it through together.
After that they make there way to Smokey's Garauge and Lighting sees all the leters that Doc sent and how they knew of Doc's plan to come back to Lighitng after recovering from in the hospital.
At that moment, Louise comes past telling them to get on the phone. Tex after hearing what happened to Lighting tells him he didnt' forget the prosmis that he made all thoese years ago. Lighting is now going to be racing with DInaco. Doc then gives his permission to use his number and paint skeem on Lighting's car.
Doc and the rest of the Barnstormers head south to Daytona. Once they get there Ramone quickly wraps the car since they don't have time to paint it. Lighting comes on the track as 'The Faboulus Lighitng McQueen'.
Storm just asumes that Lighitng will be easy pickings that is until Lighitng starts to out smart him. With Doc in his ear the whole time he wins first place.
While Cruz is happy for Lighting, even though she did take his ride. Storm trys and ask how on earth could Lighitng even win. Doc and Lighitng simply say that dirt does help out with that.
The rest of Lighting's career he is consistently in the top ten with Storm, Cruz, Bobby, and Cal. Also, Tex buys Rusteze and Bobby's team as well not to separate the track family they made.

This has to be my favorite Humanied Doc Hudson. The salt and pepper hair. The every thing is just amazing. He gives off all the right vibes. I love how he dresses all properly with his light blue buttion up and Hornet blue pants. The sliver is also a great toucht. My favotite part has to be the back of his shirt. The logo of Hudson Motors on back with the siver lines looking like the grill of his car. It realy shows how even now he can't help but be contected to his racing past.
The outfit also hides his scars he got from the crash and how he hides them from everyone. A barrier that prevents unwanted questions, yet in turn only leads to more questions about him. Just truly great design.

To add to the angst train. Doc reading about Dale's death and retreating into his garage for a few days. Realizing that he held one of the best racers of all time and now out lives him.
Dales' funeral is the first time he interacts with the racing world. Watching it from his tv he fully takes in the fact that he was a part of the 'Intimidators' life and can't put it in himself to even make a statement about his death even though they show the clip of him holding him at that interview as a part of a slide show of his life.
Doc doesn't change much after his death, but he does regret not reaching out to meet him and tell him that yes, he is living up to his father's legacy.
Not really a question, but I have this whole headcannon about how Dale Sr. could've known Doc in the 50's. I hope you like it. (Humanized)
So Dale Sr. was born in '51. I like to imagine that Ralph, Dale's dad, sometime in August, jogs up to Doc, says "hold this", hands Doc a 4-month-old Dale, then walks away to go do something. To two stare at each other for about 5 minutes before either Dale's mother or an older sibling comes over. They apologize, grab the baby, and walk away. This all happened during a televised interview.
This then becomes a running joke where Dale becomes Doc's 'interview partner' from '52 all the way to the crash in '54. The two of them were best buddies. Dale was heartbroken when Doc didn't come back. Doc was heartbroken when he heard that Dale died.
Do you hear that crunching sound? That's the sound of me- eating this headcanon up- absolutely consuming and leaving zero crumbs
I now know where Dale Sr gets his balls of steel because his dad going up to a famous person and handing them his child during a televised interview is hilarious and oddly in character 🤣
But also the two of them never being able to meet again in a time they'd remember is devastating in more ways than one- and it's also something I didn't know I needed until now-
10/10 headcanon- would munch on again!

Ok but what if in the few months before Big E's death he keeps on bring up things that would end up being important. Like he tells Strip, "You ever wonder what happened to 'The Fabolous Hudson Hornet' ", and to Chick "I should warn you that some kid as fast as lighting may come along and take your thunder.".
At the time people thought it was some advice or honest questions, but when Doc and Lighting come. Strip takes those reminders to heart and does his best to guide them into racing world.
Obviously The King and The Intimidator were besties, that kind of goes without saying.
But consider:
Chick Hicks and Dale Sr. being friends over the fact they were the only two who could ever really keep each other on their toes.

We all know that Tony can't cook, but what if he can only cook Italian food. Like somehow Maria taught him how to cook her food really well. It's to the point that he can't stand any other Italian food that an't his own.
Rhody and Pepper know all about it, but the Avengers only learn when Steve tries to make some and Tony takes over the kitchen since Tony see him do it all wrong. The best team dinners when Tony cooks.
The same thing happens with British deserts thanks to Ana, Jarvis, and Peggy.

Back during Doc's racing days. The Barnstormers had an idea to modify one of their cars to run on moonshine. Doc being the best out of the gang, got his Hornet to run on moonshine. He never raced with running on it, but somehow it went a few weeks before they had the time to switch it back.

Went to med school in Detroit.
Only car he had is his Hornet.
Makes moonshine for himself. He made it legal in RS without anyone noticing.
