Hi
Most you know that I go by "Ace" for almost the entirety of my online presence. What most of you might not know is why I use that name. Now, while I now solely identify myself as Ace and it really feels like my name, there is a reason I chose it.
That reason would be that I am asexual. I am also nonbinary, panromantic, and a few other queer identifiers. I won't go into the specifics of them as it doesn't really matter here.
What I want to say is, it's almost Pride Month. In fact, it practically *is* Pride Month already. So, would you like to help a young queer out? I'm trying to raise money to go to college and any small donation helps.
I make wallpapers (past creations can be found by searching the 'wallpapers' tag on my profile) and during this time of the year I usually offer anyone the opportunity to give me an aesthetic or concept and a flag and I'll make a subtle Pride wallpaper for them. I'll still be doing that, just on my Ko-fi. If you would like to help send a young mind to college and support my work, take the time to consider either commissioning me or donating! All proceeds from the Ko-fi go directly toward academics or related expenses.

This is my main account^^
As it says, I'm saving for college/university. I just finished community college and am now looking to get a job while waiting for the fall semester to start. The Kofi would be a tip jar and extra source of income to the side along with a real job.
Hey, guys! So, I'm getting ready to try to save for going to college and I thought of a good way to do it. If I were to make a KoFi, would anyone wanna donate or buy anything from it?
In terms of what I'm selling on there, it would be emails from a comfort character (Pretty much most fandoms I've currently written for a few new ones!) and custom wallpapers for both phone and desktop.
(Please reblog this and spread it if you vote!)

A very big thank you to openlibrary for having a book I needed for school. Instead of having to pay any amount to use it, I was able to borrow the book for an hour or so and look at the specific assigned reading parts.
(For those wondering about it, the book was Poetry, Drama, and Prose by William Butler Yeats and it was for an Irish Literature class I'm taking as an English course this semester.)

Hey, so, I know this blog has been pretty MIA for the past few months. I got a bit busy with life and forgot to keep up with it.
As for an update:
I did the first 7 week Fall semester and the second starts this Wednesday. I'll be trying to bring the Chore Chart back as I've got two classes that are purely just "Read the material and turn the work in" instead of any actual instruction from the teacher so I'll need that extra motivation.
In the meantime, thank you so much to everyone who has continued to follow me (even if you just forgot I was here hehe).

Remembering a single piece of info without further context is hard for ADHDers.
If you want to remember a snippet, you should try associating with something.
So for example if you need to remember the number 17, you can think about the movie 17 Again which stars Zac Efron and Matthew Perry, who  starred as Chandler Bing in Friends.
Now, you will find it easier to recall the number 17 (as you have a whole bunch of info associated with it). And youre also assured that you haven’t confused it with a  different number.

Self-care Sunday: Does anyone else feel like they need more concrete instructions than "just let go" of intrusive thoughts? Hunter Clark-Fields (author of Raising Good Humans) explains that the reason labeling thoughts works to help let them go is because the process activates the prefrontal cortex---the part of the brain responsible for logic, reason, and decision-making, i.e. the part of the brain that's good at focusing and setting emotions aside. It's been really helpful in my meditation practice to notice where my thoughts go, give them a label, and find it easier to refocus on the present. Labeling thoughts isn't just helpful during meditation! It's a useful practice at any time of day when you notice unwanted thoughts cropping up. The key is in the noticing.

I'd love to know how you structure your essays! Even just planning process would be super helpful!
Of course! (I'm actually taking a break from an essay to write this XD)
So the first thing I usually do is figure out word count. I prefer having a minimum word count over a page count because it feels like a more attainable goal. If I'm given a page count, I'll typically break it down to word count instead based off the requirements. Due to the classes I usually write essays for having the same requirements (MLA formatting), it's easy enough to do that.
If you consider that 12 point font double spaced is roughly 400 words, it's easier to break down page counts into word counts. (Especially going off a 1,000 word essay is roughly 4 pages.)
After word count is figured out, break it down further. I typically have a set minimum word count for every paragraph I write. That set word count is usually around 100 words but that changes depending on the parameters of the essay.
For example, I've got a 750-850 word essay I'm currently trying to write. It also has the caveat of only being 5 paragraphs. Obviously, I can't use my usual 100 word paragraphs for this but 150 word paragraphs work just fine so that's the minimum word count I'm using for this.
Now that the word count has been figured out, look at the topic. Typically, you're going to have an introduction and conclusion for the essay, that gives you two hundred words right there. I start with an outline and mark those down along with their possible word counts. If you've got a set topic (the essay I'm writing now has a thesis given by the professor with certain points to make along the way), go ahead and add those to the outline.
Example: Introduction- Thesis (150) Body 1: Minimalism (150) Body 2: Characterization (150) Body 3: Symbolism (150) Conclusion (150)
That's the outline I'm currently working with for my essay, giving me a goal of the minimum word count to read for every paragraph and the overall essay.
If you don't have specific points assigned, create them. Pick a few points in your topic that you know you'll get the word count with. Put those in the Body section and work from there. This works for research papers, persuasive essays, book reports, compare and contrast essays, analysis essays, and any other type of essay I've come across to date.
After that, it gets a bit messy. Depending on how confident I am on my topic, I'll either go straight into the draft or start a word dump. Word dumping is when you just let every idea possible come to you and you write it down, sorting it out when it's finished.
I don't really rewrite the whole thing when doing a second draft. Instead, I'll read it aloud to catch any errors or things that could have been said differently and proofread it before submitting and never looking at it again. Essays aren't usually a long process for me, a 1k word count essay can be done in about 2 hours at the most.

I forgot to update this blog when I started my semester but it has been going since late January.
I’m currently taking:
Physics 1010- this is a retake because I flunked the first lecture class (this one’s going a lot better than the first one so far!)
Biology 1060- this one is all online, no lectures attached and I’m doing relatively well with it. This one is a lot slower than all the other classes due to the way my college is doing semesters.
Chemistry 1050- again, no lecture, all online and it’s doing decently well
Comp Lit 1020- I’ve done one essay for this one right now and am really enjoying the class overall
(I know I mentioned possibly sharing the ‘formulas’ I use for certain kinds of assignments. If anyone wants to know my process for those, feel free to send asks that I can get to between homework assignments)

A good hack I read about/saw a while back was to put your class’ room number as your lockscreen for the first few days/weeks of the semester until you’ve got them memorized. Saves you the trouble of trying to remember what you’re looking for. I didn’t have the time to go to campus and get an actual map of where my classes are this time around so I’m utilizing that hack now.

The Monterey Bay Aquarium is slowly becoming my dream workplace (at least, for now. It might change if I look deeper into it) and I’m enjoying seeing their posts and having a motivator for the goal of finishing college.
