“We can really be together," he says to me, undeterred by my silence. He pulls me close, too close. I'm frozen in five hundred layers of fear. Stunned in grief, in disbelief.
His hands reach for my face, his lips for mine. My brain is on fire, ready to explode from the impossibility of this moment. I feel like I'm watching it happen, detached from my own body, incapable of intervening. More than anything else, I'm shocked by his gentle hands, his earnest eyes.
"I want you to choose me," he says. "I want you to choose to be with me. I want you to want this.

“I used to think that I couldn’t be afraid of someone so human, now I realise it is his humanity that scares me the most.”
— Flawed, Cecelia Ahern
Now, this quote is very special. Not only in its words but in its context. Celestine, the charcter who had said this, had said this in one of the hardest moments of her life. What would be the hardest moment in anyone’s life.
She was being branded in six places on her body, permanently and irreversibly marking her ‘flawed’ in her dystopian society. That scene was particularly painful, in fact I could argue it was THE most painful scene in the duology. Being branded with a hot iron, searing your flesh forever all because you had done what society deems to be immoral or unethical, despite you believing deep in your heart what you had done was right.
The quote expresses the monstrously masquerading as what we call ‘being human.’ What does it even mean to be human? What does it mean to let our humanity be our greatest hamartia—the ultimate characteristic that would eventually lead to or inevitable downfall?
Why do we allow our ‘humanity’ to be an excuse? We view our equals as ‘humans’ and view those inferior as less or not, and it truly shows just how toxic humanity can be, maybe even has been.
Could there be any hope for our flaws? Would we ever stop viewing others as inferior or superior? Is this what it truly means to be ‘human?’

“We who have means and a voice must use them to help those who have neither.”
—These Shallow Graves by Jennifer Donnelly.
Although I have yet to read this book, I must say that this quote strikes something inside me. The quote isn’t just inspiring, but it’s universally relevant regardless of what century or what country we live in. I know for a fact that as a species filled with flaws and fault, there will always be conflict and inequality until we as a whole walk hand in hand and come to agreements wholeheartedly.
But we won’t.
And I fear we will never. And that’s why I think this quote is special and should be regarded as more than just a quote from young adult novel, and something more like an eye opener. A new perspective.
We as people with more freedom, more wealth, more luxury, more abilities should not take our blessings for granted. People, humans, are suffering and dying with every breath we take, every swallow of a meal, every text we send and every disregard we give. We need to wake up. And we need to do it now.
For as long as we are capable, we must allow others to have that chance as well. That ability to choose to say whatever they feel like saying, to choose when or where they want to walk to, to choose what faith they believe in, when they should marry, have children or even when they want to do something as basic as eat.
I don’t know what we can do as individuals but I do know what we can d as a community. As a society. As a species. And it’s about time everyone else did too.

“Fear will learn to fear me.”
—Juliette Ferrars, Ignite Me.
The thing with this quote is, it’s a whole turning point for Juliette, the main character of the Shatter Me series. Ignite Me is the third book in the series and possibly my favourite one, it features her trying to get over her fear and anxiety by trying to be stronger and accepting of the power she always viewed as a curse by realising its a gift.
It’s where she decided that she cannot keep living in the shadows, she can’t run away from her problems because it doesn’t mean they’re gone. It’s where she decides to accept people, not just as friends but as family.
And frankly, it’s a pretty badass quote, is it not?
So go check out Shatter Me, if you want to ask more about what it’s like just message me and I’ll answer ;)

Hi! So this is my first official Tumblr blog, and I decided I wanted it to be on something I’m passionate about.
Books!
So, this isn’t just an information Tumblr about books, this is a learning place. Where we can bounce ideas and theories about series that we love. And it’s a place for people to say their favourites so others can read it too!
I’m really excited to show my ideas!
