There was a "challenge of the day" earlier on one art server on Discord with the theme "Rajattu valo." "Rajattu" is a fancy word that can be translated in multiple ways, so the theme could be translated as 'limited' or 'definite' light. I had multiple ideas for this one, but eventually wanted to go with these hard and fully black shadings. In one point I used to like doing those but haven't done them in years. This seemed like a good opportunity to play around with them again.

Another idea was to make the colors appear more vivid closer to the source of light and keep the rest in greyscale, but I wasn't able to make it look like what I had in mind. In the process I realized a full greyscale (or, nearly fully greyscale) looks rather neat alone and I'm still having troubles to decide which version I like better, so I'll just upload both of them.

One Quinn from the start of the year. This was supposed to be traditional but I ruined my first attempt with markers on this one, and meanwhile I had left the remaining of my marker paper next to a bottle of cleanser - which, by chance, had decided to start leaking. So now my whole stock of marker paper is ruined. I liked the sketch enough that I wanted to slam some colors on it digitally then.

Rare occasion of Fan Art Friday (though I rarely do fan art ever these days.) An annoying man from the animated series The Owl House. I'm not absolutely sure what it tells about me when I have two absolutely favorite characters in that series, and while the other is a total sweetheart, then there's... Adrian Graye. But seriously, even if he is a horrible person when thinking about the way he acts towards his subordinates (and the kids), he's also such a diva and joke that in a way you really can't truly hate him (or can you? I can't.) Besides, do persons to be taken seriously wear a dang jumpsuit in public??? It was kinda interesting to try to fit a humanoid character from an animation into my own style. I've usually drawn fan art only from Pokemon, so this was something new. I'm not absolutely happy how it turned out and I anyway feel pretty critical about my art at the moment, but I figured it's anyway better to try to finish this rather than not finishing anything. The broken glass/mirror background was also kind of a happy accident. I found a nice tutorial for broken glass effects the other day, but wasn't able to find it again so I improvised something.  The Greatest DnD Moments. Spoilers: Didn’t have to create a new character. Our Paladin managed to come to the rescue before I failed another Death Save. Even better that apparently we’ll get to level 4 on the next session, which means that James gets the 4th level Monk feat Slow Fall. The timing, guys, the timing of this.

Another D&D character of mine from our current "short" campaign. He's mostly known by the name James and he works as a butler for a noble family. Or he did work as a butler, but due to events he currently works as the personal bodyguard and babysitter of the family's spoiled youngest son. I can admit playing a Sun Soul Monk wasn't my first idea, but when asking the other players in our table what would be a fitting D&D class for a butler, one player suggested a Monk and I got way too carried away with that idea. And since our Dungeon Master tied James' lore to a firebird/phoenix god, Way of the Sun Soul sounded like the perfect option for his subclass. So now I have an old classy guy stabbing enemies with a kitchen knife and throwing flaming sun bolts in their faces while he'd actually just like to get back home and return the son of his master family back before the lad gets himself killed (again.) Ivan Torrent’s Vis Motrix seems like a fitting song for a Monk who’s searching for the power of his soul from deep within, hah.

Shitpost time! In our short campaign (where I’m playing a Monk) our Warlock keeps leaving the melee range of the enemies without disengage - and twice in such a situation the enemies have critted their opportunity attack on him and dropped him to 0 HP (the first time our Paladin even gave the enemy a disadvantage on their roll but they double critted and insta-killed the Warlock, but we gladly got to revive him, yet he didn’t learn.) I’ve had this urge to make a meme about it for a while. Listen to Quinn. He knows what it means to be a caster made out of paper. And he likes to stay alive.

Trying to get back to art after life ate my motivation for everything. Our Witchlight campaign is currently actually on hold and even if the short campaign we’re playing is fun, I still kinda miss our disaster party and my mr. fancypants Sorcerer. Though, I also dread the day when we might continue with our main campaign as we got stuck in a situation where there seems to be no easy or safe solutions, as long as we stay true to our characters (or well, I guess the issue is Quinn and also our party’s Ranger. Our Warlock would just like to yeet and leave everyone to solve their own problems. Meanwhile our Ranger has a promise to fulfill and Quinn won’t leave before we know how to save the two NPCs he actually cares about [besides of Niisku, our own rat guy.]) And short notice that I had the Witchlight Hand background for Quinn, thus the clothing. He worked as a minor performer in the Witchlight carnival. I’m still mentally laughing at the must-have faerie wings but they are kinda fun to draw.
