Heading into my last week of 38ā¦ feeling 28 in some ways and 58 in others. The last 10 years have been so wild when I think back. Marriage, kids, we will be moving to my 4th state soon, 3 career changes, a lot of travel, friends made all over the country, goals hit, others failedā¦ Iāve found the older I get the more intentional as I talked about in my last post. I told Ashley on Friday, technically Iām middle aged at 38, when life expectancy is 78 for men. You always think you have timeā¦ but you donāt in all reality. Iāve come to learn most of us try to avoid suffering, we try to avoid experiences that are perceived painful or would make us uncomfortable.. but thatās where we find our freedom and fulfillment is in the suffering, in the way we show up in our hardest times, how we treat others when we have nothing, how we treat ourselves, how we set our goals, how high we aim when we feel like we have nothing left or more to giveā¦ how deep we can dig. I took the boys to their first NBA game last week. Both loved it, this is Knoxās dream! My wife surprised the family with some tickets to go see the @harlemglobetrotters ā¦ they put on an amazing show. I was really impressed that they all hung out after for autographs for the kids. My boys watch them on YouTube, so it was really special for them to meet and get an autograph after. The days are long and the years are short. I feel like I donāt have enough time but sometimes I have too much. Life is a weird paradox. Iāve found scheduling my days makes me feel rigid but keeps me on track. In additionā¦ I have found the best way for me to control the monkey mind, is to have a clear mind. No vices, meditation everyday, breathe work everyday, exercise everyday, read everydayā¦ usually help to calm the mind, and keep my aligned. My grandma sent this to me the other day by text! Mind you she is 91ā¦ which is the point of my post. She loves life, she has never slowed down, never pays attention to her age. I called her a few weeks back and she had a cold, and all she could focus on was how she wasnāt able to sweep her porch and leaves where falling and making her home look unkept. It struck me as odd, but I sat back and thought moreā¦ she still finds meaning in work, duty and holds herself to a standard few very can comprehend at 91. She writes my kids a card for every holiday, loves to chat politics with, always on top of her game. Now, Iām by NO means some crazy successful entrepreneur, that would be my wife. But I understand how to start, run and scale a business, having had a little bit of experience in the business arenaā¦ so I think itās invaluable to teach our kids that they can trade value for money at an early age. Nixon is full on about designing his own stuff on my site so he can earn money. Even if you are a communist and hate capitalism, you can appreciate one applying a skill learned, practice and perfecting in exchange for a like skill. Happy this little guy is understanding early, your only limitation is your own creativity.
