Ever been in a room full of people and yet feel terribly alone? Yeah. Same. I made a promise to myself at the start of this year is to never allow people to make me feel small, insignificant - including the voices in my head. I turned off the noise. So I distanced myself …and started practicing loving myself first and turning the negative self talk into affirming ones. It was hard and lonely at first. Many noticed my absence when I popped up in certain circles - out of sight of our mind I guess. 🤷🏾‍♀️ However, there were a few who saw my distance, stayed close to me, allowed me to move best for me and loved me unconditionally. Doing this definitely cleared the way for everything that’s come my way since then; so many good people, great opportunities and real life moments. My self love is me saying no to the thoughts in my head that I am not good enough, it was to focus on me, my journey, my healing, my love, my life. I love with all my being and I expect nothing less, I’d prefer to “leave quietly” (hold tight clubhouse on that one!) I wear my heart on my sleeve with boundaries now because I’m at a point in my life where I love myself more than ever before. I wrote all of this to say, go easy on yourself, love yourself because you’re the only person you are around 24/7. Did you know that today is Africa Day? 25th May is a celebration for Africans and people of African descent all over the world (which basically means everyone as we are ALL from the African continent). 2022's celebration is centred on the theme of nutrition; Africa day is observed annually to commemorate the founding of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU - now known as the African Union) which was created 25th May 1963. I'm sure you're thinking; "that's nice Tillz but where are you going with this?!" WELP it came to my attention last year that not many people know this day exists nor do they know how to celebrate it! So here's how - people of African descent are encouraged to celebrate and commemorate the Day by becoming active in or by making donations to worthy causes, and other activities which include virtual: Activities that focus on arts and crafts, dance, poetry, music and fashion. Or why not book a flight to somewhere in the African continent and visit the amazing countries in the continent?! 👀 Here in London we have black owned businesses across social media where you can buy products and support black businesses with the use of the hashtag #BlackPoundDay or you could go and support a black creative for free by liking their post, commenting, sharing posts you like! [SWIPE LEFT] Kehinde is the African American artist who made the phenomenal portrait of Michelle Obama. (You know the one I’m talking about - yeah he did that) Today is Bank Holiday (Labour Day - a public holiday for the US peeps) so I thought I would throwback what I did last Bank Holiday Monday (Easter Monday) Had an impromptu meet up for #BBB and we went to the National Gallery to see the exhibit by @kehindewiley. The exhibit ended on the 18th April 2022 at the National Gallery here in London but I’m sure this isn’t the last we are seeing on this amazing artist. I love the way the stories came out of the art to speak to you. So much so we had a decision after leaving the exhibit about the art and we each took something unique. Who wants a spa day? Me! Today I woke up craving to do something different. Whilst journalling this morning, my gratitude journal asked what can you do for yourself today? So I decided to take a “me day”. Simple isn’t it?! I know sometimes it’s hard to really just take a day during the week and just go off to another country at your leisure - so why not do a spa day? Groupon has some amazing deals for during the week and a few of them close late. I opted for the one in the picture and allowed myself to endulge in a 90 minute hammam experience. Did you know that yesterday was International Day of Happiness? To be honest a couple of years ago, I didn’t either. But it’s actually a good day - it’s a day the United Nations arranged to serve as a reminder that being Happy is human right and worth celebrating. I have my views on the state of the world but I think it’s best I keep it to myself. If happiness is a human right, are they saying black people are not human? Every life matters. Black Lives Matter. And they deserve to be happy. We deserve to be seen as humans. That’s all I have to say on that one. Bit of a controversial one but HAPPY BELATED INTERNATIONAL DAY OF HAPPINESS!
