"Now new tidings came to Doriath concerning Nargothrond, for some that had escaped from the defeat and the sack and had survived the Fell Winter in the wild, came at last to Thingol seeking refuge; and the march-wardens brought them to the King." —The Silmarillion, Of Túrin Turambar
Extremely last-minute thing for day 7 of @tolkienocweek - one of the handful of Nargothrond's survivors.
She doesn't have much to do with any of the canon characters (apart from being the daughter of one of the twelve who went with Finrod to Tol-in-Gaurhoth), so here she is on the freeform day. She was born in Nargothrond, and most of her early life was riddled with loss; of the five members of her immediate family, only she and her elder sister survived the loss of their home. She had no taste or talent for fighting, and had hoped to be a harper before Glaurung came, but his fire robbed her of most of the dexterity in her left hand and left her in perpetual pain - a thing she minded far more than the disfigurement of her face. She spent the remainder of the First Age and some of the Second honing herself with relentless diligence into a warrior of terrifying repute, partly as a way of trying to make herself useful (largely because that was her sister's definition of "useful"), partly as a way of trying to dull the edge of constant pain - but it took its toll physically and mentally, and after the Last Alliance she retires to a quiet corner of Lothlórien and becomes an instrument-maker.
(This is really only half-finished, but I'll get to her sister later.)

Decided to draw my Tolkien OC, Anoriel Fereniel again but this time with what I hope is her final design.
I decided to rework my designs of characters from LotR, The Hobbit, Silmarillion, etc to have the aesthetics of RoP mixed with LotR the Musical. This ofc means face paint/markings for the elves so here’s Anoriel with the Woodland Realm’s markings.
I decided to give her a spear as her weapon since she prefers distance while fighting in comparison to her brother and father. Also I hc Woodland Realm elves go barefoot, namely the scouts cause they have to maneouvre their way through the forests and trees.
Anoriel will have more outfits obvs but this is the scout’s uniforms for the Woodland Realm.

for Day 5 @tolkienocweek : Shipping
Orelil the Morning Star; the protagonist of my Silmarillion OC fic a golden impermanence.
Her story begins on the shores of Nevrast. She is of mixed Noldorin and Sindarin heritage and is among those of Turgon's host who migrates to Gondolin. In the Hidden City, she becomes the Lady of the House of the Golden Flower. After the fall, her journey continues as she navigates her way through the turbulent Ages.
She is a seamstress and broidress by trade, though her skillset expands as her experiences do throughout the story. She remains firmly on the fringes of most of the main events which happen in Arda, though the course of her entire journey is highly influenced by them.
The second image is of an (incredibly) important turning event in Orelil's story, which is my exploration and possible explanation for certain canon events which happen later on. The chapter in which this scene takes place is currently a work in progress.
While the fic is focused on Orelil and her journey, she was originally created solely as a vessel to explore Glorfindel's story, though that quickly changed as I became much more enamoured in building up her character. Her relationship with Glorfindel is an important aspect of her character, and influences the events which occur throughout her story, always lingering in frame somehow.
I first thought of her story as a 'what do the events of The Silmarillion look like experienced by an outsider (meaning: a rando in the background and not as a key player in the grand scheme of things). It soon turned into a vessel where I could ruminate about the elves of the First Age as they relate to Tolkien's worldbuilding; their culture, beliefs and their interactions with their surrounding nature and different societies. I also wanted so badly to try my hand at capturing the tone of nostalgia, longing and tragedy that are so intrinsic in my readings of Tolkien's works.
+an extra glorfindel design at the end because i just think they are neat together (peep the subtle lotus design in muted gold on his top)

Two magical dudes
the blue wizards
in watercolor and pencil.
Tumblr media
Tolkien OC Week: Day 4 Forgotten Characters. Not exactly forgotten, but Tolkien ignored these dudes enough in LOTR they might as well be. I suspect they were already killed by the events of LOTR since being missionaries and revolutionaries can be a dangerous job. RIP blue wizards.
I think Pallando is the guy on the left and Alatar is the guy on the right because the guy on the left has a very friendly expression while the guy on the right is more solemn. The guy on the left just seems like the friendly friend you need for a mission. But interpret it how you want. I don't really care who's who. Their appearances were inspired by how I imagine Easterlings and Haradrim would look. So central Asian (with a Vietnamese hat because I saw it on fan art and I liked it) and Persian.
Because I waited so long between drying layers I barely got this in before midnight.

@tolkienocweek day 7: freeform
my self-insert OC, meril peredhel! this half-elf is sugar, spice, and everything nice; a true believer in the virtue of hope in a world full of shadow, and the ultimate triumph of love over evil. she has dedicated most of her time to the pursuit of art, music, beauty, and knowledge. her favourite thing is to sit in rivendell's lovely garden with a cat and a good book.

Lómenorto or Almenesta is a trickster and a Maia of Irmo. His task was generally to paralyse people during their sleep - which he finds very dull and boring. Therefore he either slacks (and that s why people sleepwalk) or send very weird dreams and nightmares (sleep paralysis basically). Tried to follow Melkor once - yet discovered he did not like being ordered around. Ended up constantly changing sides, sitting on two chairs at once. While he pretends to work for both the Valar and Melkor - he, in fact, just sabotages and annoys everyone. Loves everything silly.

Udhos of Harad was made for the Silmarillion Steampunk AU RP. He is an evil (?) alchemist who used to do errands for Sauron - yet grew dissapointed in his intrigues and tried to escape along with the prisoner he was assigned to torture (steampunk!Maedhros). Is generally very mean to everyone.

Raivo is a traveller from Forodwaith. Has a very cheery and chaotic character. The sword (or more like what was left from it) they are carrying was won in a fight with some icy Giant (according to Raivo's own words). They are interested in tales of dread and set off for their journey to write down every creepy legend they can hear in Middle-Earth. Are in search of a story that could actually scare them.

@tolkienocweek FREEFORM (LOTRO CHARACTER)
The youngest child of Grimbeorn, son of Beorn. Her husband, Eregil of the Dúnedain, later gave her the affectionate sobriquet Morcincë. During the War of the Ring, Eda left her home in the Vales of the Anduin and journeyed west to help aid the fight against the shadows of Angmar. She would later go on to enter the Mines of Moria, help counter the rise of Isengard, and march alongside the King, following him through great perils and terrible battles. Out of the three children of Grimbeorn, Eda was the most like their mother, being bold yet also kind and tender-hearted.

An Element of Noldorin Design
Drabble featuring a Noldorin OC, posted here for @tolkienocweek
(Day 7, Freeform).
Summary: Melimo, Fingon's architect, defending the fortress he built against overwhelming force, after the Nirnaeth Arnoediad.
Warning for implied character death.
Melimo knocked out the single strut that would collapse the scaffolding that supported the drawbridge and send the enemy troops assailing the gate plummeting into the depths of the ravine. It had been his own addition to Curufin’s design, a fail-safe for the kind of attack he had hoped would never come.
Now, even this turned out not to be enough, not after the disastrous defeat out on the plain. The fortress in the Ered Wethrin would fall, like the rest of Hithlum. But they could hold out a little longer, take a few more of the enemy with them.
This is a fixed-length drabble (100 words) written earlier this year for a SWG Challenge. Previously posted only under lock, now it has received a title.
The drabble is a sequel to my more light-hearted ficlet Engineering and Diplomacy.

» Instead of a sword, I want to wield a brush; and it shall be paint, not blood, that soaks my clothes. My hands shall do no harm, but only seek to capture the beauty of the world. I may be a daughter of the House of Fëanor, but that does not mean I must follow in their footsteps.

@tolkienocweek Day 6: Alternate Universes
Tumblr media
Lossrilleth, as the Elves call her now, can remember being human. But in that world - in our world - she died. She'd been dead a long time, in fact, when she awoke in the healing rooms of Lord Elrond in Valinor, hundreds of years into the fourth age. She has to learn new languages, and how to use this new Elven body she's in. It's hard to get used to, being a different person. But it's all wonderful, really. Maybe too wonderful. She's going to have to figure out what's going on before this goes too far - especially when she starts falling in love.
From The Forest in Winter.
