April’s Fools day

A Harry Potter head-canon. 

Not many know about this (why would they?), but the Weasley twins have a tacit rule. Yes, the Weasley twins have given themselves a rule.

This rule is not to play any pranks on April’s Fools day.

It came to them quite naturally, actually.

To be well-executed, a prank must be unexpected. And everyone expects to be pranked on April’s Fools day. In particular, everyone expects the two most famous pranksters that ever walked on Hogwarts’ grounds to prank people on April’s Fools day.

Hence, their decision to never, ever even crack a joke on such a date. But to do so, constantly, for the remaining 364 days of the year.

Besides, April’s Fools day is also the twins’ birthday. And while they wouldn’t mind their friends pranking them and misleading them as a birthday gift, they’d much rather spend their time celebrating than playing tricks.

Therefore, they do not prank anyone on April’s Fools day. They are deadly serious, in fact, in everything they do and say on April’s Fools day.

But not many people know that.

Hermione Granger doesn’t know that.

That’s why, when Fred salutes her in the corridor and tells her that she looks as radiant as ever today, and that his heart beats for her and her only, Hermione laughs it off and bids him a good day and a good birthday.

Then she gets into the Transfiguration classroom, and she’s gone.

If she only knew about his rule.

From the first moment I heard about folklore, I couldn’t help but think about Joanna Newsom’s music. Looking carefully at the new Taylor Swift lyrics, a shared common ground can be easily found.

When Taylor Swift announced the new album out of the blue, I knew that my brain was going to explode. First of all, because Taylor Swift always makes my brain explode. Second of all, because as soon as I read the title, folklore, something clicked in my mind: “Do you know who else makes folk music? Indie-folk music?”.
