A very subjective recap of my audiodrama journey in 2023 "Year of the Rabbit"
This is entirely based on personal preferences and not at all an objective assessment of quality
If applicable, cast members are listed with the gong first.
"Web Drama/网配" here refers to the free, not-for-profit productions
All AD's are on Mao'er FM (Missevan) unless indicated otherwise.

The Golden Terrance/黄金台 -- (Web Drama/网配)
Jia Xu/贾诩 x Yacejun/雅策君
Three not-for-profit productions of The Golden Terrance launched in 2020, but this is the first and only one to be completed! I'm just so grateful and amazed that so many talented people contributed to make this happen -- all for free! It's not perfect, but it's comparable if not better than for-profit productions at least 90% of the time, and I think it really did this beloved novel justice. Go listen to it!
Famous/In Name Only/有名
Wei Chao/魏超 x Chen Jiaheng/陈家恒
I did not know I needed to hear Lan Wangji's audiodrama VA speak in a southern/canto-style accent, but it has been life-changing.
"Famous" comes with all the bells and whistles you could possibly hope for in a professional, for-profit production. It has eight original songs, tons of little skits and bonus content, wonderful performance and polished post-production. The team brought their own vision to the adaption, leveraging the of creative potential in the audio medium while staying true to the text. If we have to nitpick, I'd say Liang Yu sounds a bit old for a man on the cusp of 30, but Wei Chao's magnetic voice is more than enough to make up for it.
After the Disabled God of War Became My Concubine/残疾战神嫁我为妾后
Shi Zekun/史泽鲲 x Liu Sicen/刘思岑
This is the guilty pleasure personal favorite I have been playing on repeat in the background -- a comforting little sugar pie AD. Objectively speaking, this production has noticeable flaws, from built-in plot holes from the source material to uneven performance and mixing of some minor characters' dialogue. However, I really like the sweet, lighthearted story and the lead voice actors' performance, and we got the entire thing in one season!
“Next season please start tomorrow!"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Sword Named No Way Out/剑名不奈何
Zhao Yi/赵毅 x Chen Zhang Taikang/陈张太康
I'm very conflicted about this one! This is the first time I really understood the charm of Zhao Yi's voice, but I don't like his character (gong/love interest) or the romantic arc. I am intrigued by the twists in the plot, but we still don't know who is the main conflict halfway into the story, because the novel is just written this way. I'm absolutely charmed by the supporting characters, but I suspect their roles will be reduced in the next season to make way for the the main romance. I really can't get into this novel for some reason, so I'm waiting on the AD to satisfy my curiosity.
"Top flower vase of the mainland entertainment industry"/内娱第一花瓶 -- (Web Drama/网配)
Liu Sicen/刘思岑 x Shang Tong/商桐
This free drama has released 3 stunning seasons since 2021. The screenplay and post-production is a little rough in places, but that's nothing to compared to quality and scale of the output -- the first few episodes of the AD convinced me to commit to reading this 900K words long novel! With free Web Dramas, you can't really guarantee or expect anything. It updated fairly consistently since 2021 but lead CV Liu Sicen currently has an insanely busy lineup of paid projects and likely no time for this. I'm very grateful for the seasons we have had, but I still dream of this AD releasing one more season to at least finish the main story -- and end on a happy note after the reconciliation!!!
Onmyōji/阴阳师 -- (on Manbo & others)
Yuan Mingzhe/袁铭喆 & Zhao Chengchen/赵成晨 [No CP]
Ironically, I think this is the series with the smallest chance of getting a second season, despite its star-studded cast, excellent production, and iconic source material. It sounds great, and I love the main voice actors playing something different from their normal dynamic. However, the series struggle to attract a wide audience as a general/non-BL drama. I'm taking comfort in the fact that the source material is a collection of short stories, so it doesn't feel too incomplete at the end of Season 1.
"well, that ... happened"
A lot of the ADs released in 2023 are said to feel like the work off a "production line"/流水线. It does well enough to maybe satisfy the fans of the source material and fans of the voice actors, but there's not much that's special about it to draw you in if you are not already interested, and is far from realizing the full potential of the story and the AD medium. There were a few shows that I had been very emotionally invested in, but ultimately they were a bit underwhelming.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Demon Venerable’s Wistful Desire/魔尊他念念不忘
Yuan Mingzhe/袁铭喆 x Ma Zhengyang/马正阳
Probably the most well-received drama out of the three here. The source material -- a comedic xianxia transmigration story -- helped it stand out in field a dominated by modern urban dramas. I didn't find the story to be particularly compelling or innovative as a fantasy/xianxia story, but the voice actors gave solid performances.
Flower Vase/花瓶 -- (on Manbo)
Peng Yao/彭尧 x Liu Sicen/刘思岑
Does anyone still remember this show from last year? Flower Vase is an iconic novel in the scum gong/substitute/crematorium sub-genre, and because it's short and relatively old, there are already two complete free Web Dramas (and more incomplete ones). This work is good, but not enough to make most people willing to listen to this story again or really stand out over the free versions. I liked this one mostly because I was (and still am) in a phase about Liu Sicen's voice.
Morbid Attachment/诟病
Wen Sen/文森 x Yuan Mingzhe/袁铭喆
I'm a fan of Zhe-ge and Wen-laoshi to downright unreasonable degrees and even I have nothing to say about this drama except "it finished." Seriously, you have these two on your cast, in an extremely popular story that features a pop star, and we have like two and a half songs, no duet, and not a single song from YMZ. I still put it on when I want to hear their voices, but it definitely didn't deliver on the potential of one of the most popular stories on Changpei.
"not bad but I had higher hopes "
All of these are based of very popular novels that I read and liked but didn't love, and I ended up feeling the same way about the ADs. It's a coincidence that Taikang has leading roles in all of them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
TGCF/Heaven Official's Blessing/天官赐福 Season 1
Chen Zhang Taikang/陈张太康 x Su Shangqing/苏尚卿
Since the AD is based off the new revised version of TGCF that me (and most people) haven't read, it's hard to tell if the show has completely misinterpreted parts of the novel or if it's just new content. I can't truly dissociated TGCF from the unpleasantness of all the fandom drama, which dampens my enthusiasm for it quite a bit. However, I'm happy enough with both the production and the performance in the 2023 release that I listened to it a few times. But at an emotional level, I'm just not as excited as I expect myself to be for a project of this level of fame and quality.
Swallow the Sea/Tunhai/吞海 Season 2
Zheng Xi/郑希 x Chen Zhang Taikang/陈张太康
It took me a while to realize why I was struggling with Swallow the Sea. It's hard to follow mystery/procedural stories if you are only getting 40 minutes of content once every week -- you would have forgotten everything by the time the new episode airs! I never realized before because I got into AD's late enough that a lot of iconic shows (like Modu and Poyun) have been completed and available for binging. Now I think I'll wait until this one finishes all its seasons.
Thrice Married to Salted Fish/三嫁咸鱼 Season 1
Ma Zhengyang/马正阳 x Chen Zhang Taikang/陈张太康
I felt a bit underwhelmed by the novel when I finished it, and I wouldn't have cared for the AD at all if it weren't a collaboration between Ma-laoshi and Taikang. Ironically, I really love the ending theme, which the audience hated so much the studio had to put out a new mix. Maybe this story is just for people with very different tastes?
Everybody's talking about you
I haven't listened to these yet, but I heard so many good things about these three in the past year.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Qiang Jin Jiu/The Ballad of Sword and Wine/将进酒
Yuan Mingzhe/袁铭喆 x Jiang Guangtao/姜广涛
Does this need an explanation? After its surprise return just before Chinese New Year, the newest (free) episode racked up more plays in a few weeks than entire seasons of some ADs. This is what a real superstar looks like!
But personally, I plan to wait until the series finishes first. I waited for almost two years for Season 4 -- I can wait a bit longer for an indulgent binging experiences.
The Selfish Gene/秉性下等
Shun Zi/顺子 x Sun Lulu/孙路路
This drama has the closest thing I have seen to "universal acclaim" in the AD fandom in 2023. It's one of the few 2023 dramas to break through 10 million play count, beating out many productions with bigger IPs and more popular voice actors.
I definitely want to listen to it, but now I want to wait until I'm in the right mood to really enjoy it.
Stealing The Wind But Not The Moon/偷风不偷月 -- ("Voiced drama"/Audiobook, on Ximalaya)
Sang Yuze/桑毓泽 x Yang Chaoran/杨超然
2023 saw a lot of activity in the 有声剧 area. I think of them like audiobooks because they keep most of the narration, but they are still called "dramas" and the actors still put a lot into their character performances.
This production has been received very well, especially compared to the audiodrama that is currently airing on Mao'er. I held back on the AD because of this, even though I have been very excited about a Liu Sicen x Shun Zi collaboration. However, I'm not sure I want to get into a new platform for this, even though it definitely put Ximalaya on my radar.
I'm waiting to see how it goes ....
Some series are off to a strong start, but there's still a long way to the end ...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I Became a God in a Horror Game/我在惊悚游戏里封神 (Season 2/?)
Shun Zi/顺子 x Dao Mei Si Le/倒霉死勒
Season 1 have play counts that can rival TGCF, and Season 2 seems to be starting off strong after arriving at the end of 2023. The hype alone has gotten my interest, but then I realized it would take probably 10 seasons to finish this novel, so I think I'll wait a bit first ...
The Reincarnated Minister/再世权臣 (Season 1/ ?)
six people x Dao Mei Si Le/倒霉死勒 [NP]
I heard the plot of this novel is actually quite good, and I am really impressed with the quality of the free episodes. However, this novel is looooong, and I'm not sure I will enjoy the NP outcome in the end. But if they can keep up the good work for a few more seasons (lol years?), maybe I could be tempted into getting into this.
A Clear and Muddy Loss of Love/泾渭无间 (Season 1/?)
Hao Tian/浩天 x Xu Xia 徐佳琦
Unlike the other two, I followed Season 1 of this one as it released.
GL deserves more love, but I'm not very optimistic about this drama carrying through to a satisfying conclusion in a timely manner. A novel of this length would normally take 4-5 seasons on Mao'er, but its stats are not encouraging. In the final of episode of Season 1, they did that ridiculous montage that rushed through so many things, probably trying to save on costs. I understand GL has a smaller fanbase than BL, but it's still disheartening to see one of its biggest IPs being handled liked this ...
A Special nod to a few web dramas
The amazing labors of love we get to enjoy for free.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Spoil"/作践 (Web Drama/网配, completed)
Zhao Chengchen/赵成晨 x Gu Chen/顾辰
(2021-2022, 12 episodes + 1 extra). I only listened to the first four episodes, which prompted me to read the novel, but then I found it a bit too dark for me to want to revisit AD. That being said, I am very impressed with the episodes I heard, especially the screenplay. I didn't feel lost at all even before I read the novel. It set up some complex scenes and conflicts very clearly, better than many for-profit dramas imo.
The Golden Terrance/黄金台 (Web Drama/网配, in progress)
Xu Xu Dian Deng/续续点灯 x HolyNight
(2020-- ?, 7 episodes so far) This drama didn't update in all of 2023. I lost hope when then other version finished, but then they suddenly came back with a long new episode early in 2024! I think this adaption is a bit more abridged than the one that already finished, but fingers crossed that they finish this!
"Dao Zhan Shan He"/ 刀斩山河 (Web Drama/网配, incomplete)
Shang Tong/商桐 x HolyNight [switch CP/verse]
(2020-2022, 6 eps) The production officially ended, which is a real shame because it was pretty good for the parts it covered. I listened to this because I really liked the novel, and it actually encouraged me start exploring the other Web Series that has been abandoned/incomplete, because the good work of the staff and actors deserve to be appreciated even if they didn't have the resources to finish the story.
The most disappointing ....
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mr. Melancholy Wants to Live a Peaceful Life/忧郁先生想过平静生活
Wen Sen/文森 x Sun Lulu/孙路路
I'm disappointed with this drama, but I sort of understand why it came out this way. The novel plays heavily off dramatic irony to carry its humor and suspense, and that is hard to express in audio -- at least, I don't think there is a well-established formula for it. However, I still think it could have done much better to cover the scenes and action in a straightforward manner.
The Return of Cambrian Period/寒武再临
Guo Haoran/郭浩然 x Ma Zhengyang/马正阳
I can understand why "Mr Melancholy" is hard to adapt, but I really, really don't understand why this straight-forward, plot-driven action adventure has turned out so poorly. The episodes are too short and fragmented to engage listeners. A lot of the dialogue could have been edited during adaptation to make it more natural and smooth. Many scenes use music and sound effects that are very cheesy and dated, which almost sounds like an inside joke about the age of the novel that no one wants that at the expense of quality. It's just a long list of little problems that seem incomprehensible for a production that had the budget to hire an all A-list cast.
"Tan Lian"/贪恋
Wen Sen/文森 x Yuan Mingzhe/袁铭喆
My favorite voice actors tackling an original screenplay! I was so excited, but ....
the story is just not good, to the point I'm wondering how did everyone get through making this AD, because it makes so sense as a narrative! If it's a comedy, maybe everyone can at least get some laugh out of it, but it has be a angsty scum gong story. "Confusing and miserable" just don't make an appealing combo.
Final Thoughts
When I first got into danmei in 2022, I mostly listened to the "backlog" of famous productions, and I was really blown away by the quality and variety. 2023 was the first year of me "following" the current releases, and it was a little disheartening tbh. The industry seems to be a at a turning point, experimenting with new people, genres and formats, with varying results. Maybe it will work out better in 2024.

Annals of Emperor Wen of Zhou, 537
[Showdown at Shayuan. Arguably among the more iconic battles in Chinese history.]
[Datong 3, 27 January 537 – 14 February 538]
3rd Year, Spring, 1st Month [27 January – 24 February], Eastern Wei robbed Longmen, stationed an army at Puban, and built three roads and floating bridges to cross the He. Also they dispatched their general Dou Tai to press on to Tong Pass, and Gao Aocao to besiege Luo province. Taizu set out with the army for Guangyang, and summoned the various generals, saying:
The traitors are now gripping us on three sides, and are also building bridges on the He, showing their intention is surely to cross. With this they intend to bind up our army and make Dou Tai manage to go west and enter, and that is all. To grapple with them for a long time when their strategy is to obtain a march is not a good plan.
Moreover, since Huan raised troops and onwards, Tai has always been the first to chase ahead, and among his subordinates are many honed soldiers, frequently victorious and therefore self-assured. Now [if we] set out for where he does not expect, when we assault him we will surely overcome. If we overcome Tai, Huan will not fight but flee on his own.
Everyone of the various generals said:
The traitors are nearby. To let go of them and launch a far-away assault, if the affair turns out a blunder, regrets will not be enough.
Taizu said:
When Huan earlier twice assaulted Tong Pass, our army did not go beyond Bashang. At present when he comes in great number, the troops have not yet set out from the suburbs. The traitors look back and say we only defend ourselves and that is all, and have no thoughts of distant struggles. And also, accustomed to obtaining their aspirations, they have made light of our hearts. [If we] exploit this and strike them, where would we go and not overcome. Even though the traitors are constructing bridges, they will not be able to cross over straight-away. That within five days we will defeat Dou Tai is certain. Your Excellencies must not doubt it.
On gengxu [9 February], Taizu led 6 000 cavalry to return to Chang'an, and publicly talked of his intention to protect Longyou.
On xinhai [10 February], he paid his respects to the Emperor and then secretly set out with the army.
On guichou [12 February], he arrived at the Xiao Pass. Dou Tai's troops heard that the army had arrived, and were nervous and afraid. They took refuge in the mountain to make their battle line, but had not yet managed to complete their deployment when Taizu let loose the troops to strike and route them, fully taking prisoner their multitude of more than ten thousand people. He beheaded Tai and transmitted the head to Chang'an.
Gao Aocao just then captured Luo province and seized the Inspector, Quan Qi. He heard of Tai's death, burnt the supply wagons, abandoned the city, and fled. Shenwu of Qi likewise removed the bridges and withdrew. Qi's son Yuanli soon after restored Luo province, and beheaded the Eastern Wei Inspector, Du Mi. Taizu returned with the army to Chang'an.
6th Month [24 June – 22 July], dispatched the Ceremony Similar Yu Jin to defeat Yangshi Ramparts.
Taizu requested to lay down Acting Tribunal. The Emperor again repeated his previous instructions. Taizu accepted Recording the Affairs of the Masters of Writing, the remaining he firmly declined. He therefore desisted.
Autumn, 7th Month [23 July – 21 August], summoned the troops to assemble at Xianyang.
8th Month, dingchou [4 September], Taizu led Li Bi, Dugu Xin, Liang Yu, Zhao Gui, Yu Jin, Ruogan Hui, Yi Feng, Liu Liang, Wang De, Houmochen Chong, Liu Yuan, and Daxi Wu, twelve generals, on an eastern offensive. They arrived at Tong Pass, and Taizu then made an oath to the regiments, saying:
You and I are a multitude that serves Heaven's authority and executes the brutal and unruly. Indeed you gentlemen, orderly with your armour and arms, taking precautions with your military affairs, have no greed for wealth with which to make light of the enemy and no violence against the people with which to play the tyrant. Follow the instructions and be rewarded, do not follow the instructions and be humiliated. You multitude gentlemen should make an effort of it.
He dispatched Yu Jin to stay in front of the army and patrol the land until Pandou. The Eastern Wei general Gao Shuli defended the palisades and did not come down. Jin relentlessly attacked him, and he therefore surrendered. They captured 1 000 soldiers from his defence post and sent off Shuli to Chang'an.
On wuzi [15 September], they arrived at Hongnong. Eastern Wei's general Gao Gan and Inspector of Shan陜 province, Li Huibo, resisted and defended. At that time it rained continuously, and Taizu therefore instructed the various armies to dare the rain and attack them.
On gengyin [17 September], the city collapsed. He beheaded Huibo and captured 8 000 of his fighting soldiers. Gao Gan fled across the He. He ordered Heba Sheng to pursue and seize him, and sent off both to Chang'an.
Hence Yiyang and Shao commanderies both came to revert to adherence. Prior to this, many of the prominent and outstanding South of the He assembled troops in response to Eastern. Arriving at this point, each led their sections to come and surrender.
Shenwu of Qi was afraid, and led a multitude of 100 000 to set out from Hukou and hurry to Puban, wanting to cross over from Houtu[?]. He also dispatched his general Gao Aocao with 30 000 men to set out from South of the He. This year there was famine in Guanzhong. When Taizu had pacified Hongong, he lodged and foraged for more than fifty days. At the time his fighting soldiers were not fully 10 000 men. When he heard that Shenwu of Qi was about to cross, he therefore pulled in the army and entered the Pass.
Shenwu of Qi thereupon crossed the He and pressured Hua province. The Inspector, Wang Pi, rigourously defended. He understood he could not be attacked and therefore forded the Luo. The army was west of Xuyuan.
Taizu occupied South of the Wei, and levied the provincial troops which had not yet assembled. He then summoned the various generals and spoke to them, saying:
Gao Huan went past the mountains and crossed the He, coming from far-away to arrive here. It is the time for Heaven to undo him. I intend to strike him what should [I] do?
Everyone of the various generals considered the multitude too few in number amd would not resist. They requested to wait for Huan to once more go west, and so observe his circumstances. Taizu said:
If Huan manages to arrive at Xianyang, people's feelings will turn to agitation and confusion. Now when he is newly arrived, we can expediently strike him.
He promptly constructed floating bridges on the Wei, and ordered the army people to furnish three days of provisions. The light cavalry crossed the Wei while the supply wagons from South of the Wei clung to the Wei and [went?] west.
Winter, 10th Month, renchen [18 November], he arrived at Shayuan, the distance to Shenwu of Qi's army was about 60 li. Shenwu of Qi heard that Taizu had arrived, and pulled the army to come and meet him.
On guisi [19 November], dawn, scout cavalry reported Shenwu of Qi's army was about to arrive. Taizu summoned the various generals to plan with them. Li Bi said:
The others are many and we are few, it is not possible to set up the battle line on level ground. Ten li east of here there is a bend in the Wei. We can occupy it first and wait for them.
Thereupon they advanced the army to arrive at the bend in the Wei, and with the river behind them to the east and west they made their battle line. Li Bi had the right formation, and Zhao Gui the left. They instructed the generals and soldiers to lay down their glaives within the reeds and rushes, and when they heard the sound of drums to then rise up.
Yu Jin and others with the Six Armies joined battle with them, while Li Bi and others led the iron cavalry to strike them from the side. They broke their army into two units and greatly routed them. The beheaded counted more than 6 000, and those approached the battle line to surrender more than 20 000 people. Shenwu of Qi escaped in the night. They pursued until the banks of the He, and repeatedly greatly vanquished and captured. From beginning to then they took captive 70 000 of his soldiers. They kept behind 20 000 of his armoured soldiers, the reminder were fully set free to return home. They gathered up their supply wagons, arms and armour, and presented the prisoners at Chang'an.
He turned back the army to South of the Wei, and then the troops which had been levied from the various provinces started to arrive. Therefore at where the battle took place, he measured the [number of] soldiers at that time, and for [each] person planted a single tree as a symbol for their martial merit.
Advanced Taizu to Pillar of State Great General, and increased his estate, together with the previous, to 5 000 households. Li Bi and others, the twelve generals likewise were advanced in feudal rank and increased their estates. And also their subordinate generals and soldiers were each rewarded proportionally.
Dispatched the Archer-Servant of the Left, the King of Pingyi, Yuan Jihai, as Acting Tribunal. He and the Opening Office Dugu Xin led 20 000 infantry and cavalry towards Luoyang. The Inspector of Luo province, Li Xian, hurried toward Jing province.
Heba Sheng and Li Bi crossed the He to besiege Puban. The Commander of the Serrated Gates, Gao Zixin opened the gates and admitted Sheng's army. The Eastern Wei general Xue Chongli abandoned the city and fled. Sheng and others pursued and captured him. Taizu advanced the army to Puban, and seized and settled Fen and Jiang 絳. Hence Xu He killed Zhang Qiong and used Xia province to surrender.
Earlier, after Taizu had entered the Passes from Hongnong, the Eastern Wei general Gao Aocao besieged Hongnong. When he heard their army had been defeated, he withdrew to defend Luoyang. Dugu Xin arrived at Xin'an, and Aocao again fled across the He. He thereupon entered Luoyang.
Eastern Wei's Senior Clerk of Yingchuan, Heruo Tong, together with a native of Mi county, Zhang Jian, apprehended the Inspector, Tian Xun, and offered up the city in surrender. Zheng Rongye, Zheng Wei, and others of Xingyang attacked Liang梁 province, and seized its Inspector of Lu Yongji. Cui Yanmu and Tan Chen, natives of Qinghe, attacked Xingyang, and seized its commandery warden, Su Ding, all of them came to adhere. From Liang, Chen, and westwards, generals and magistrates who surrendered followed after each other.
Hence the Eastern Wei generals Yao Xiong, Zhao Yu, and Shiyun Bao set out for Yingchuan, intending to restore the surrendered territory. Taizu dispatched the Ceremony Similar Yuwen Gui, Liang Qian, and others to confront and strike, they greatly routed them. Zhao Yu came to surrender. Eastern Wei again dispatched general Ren Xiang to lead the troops from South of the He and combine with Xiong. The Ceremony Similar Yi Feng together with Gui, Qian, and others again struck and routed him. Also dispatched Chief Controller Wei Xiaokuan to capture Yu province. Shiyun Bao killed their Inspector of Dongyang province, Na Chun, and used the province to come and adhere.

Can you recommend top 5 BL whatever (books, movies, shows)? I'm in a mood for no hets and I don't think anyone does WL ...
I can think of 2 things and then... I guess 3 fillers. I will put a ✨️ by the genuine enjoyment recs.
✨️ Heaven Official's Blessing /TGCF (Novel and anime on Netflix (dubbed in English on Funimation)):: A disgraced God is approached by a dangerous Demon King who is known for killing Gods. Strangely, this Demon King wishes only to see this particular God happy and takes care of him with the gentleness of a devout worshipper.
✨️ The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation // The Untamed (Show, Novel, Graphic Novel, Anime):: A heroic young man is changed by war and loss into a powerful icon of evil and corruption. 16 years (13 in the book) after his death, he is resurrected by a madman, reunited with the man he loved in youth, and must solve the mysteries of the past without succumbing to the darkness of the present.
Symantec Error (Show):: A cold but high achieving student is targeted for abuse by an aloof classmate and love blossoms between them.
History 3: Trapped (Show):: A *heavy sigh as I try not to gag at the cliche* police officer falls in love with the gang leader he is trying to bring down. Cliche, not great acting, but the sex scenes are extremely well done, to the degree where it's worth noting.
Be Loved In House: I Do (Show):: A jewelry designer is forced to cohabitate with his insufferable and arrogant boss. As they learn more about one another, love blooms.
The last 3 I put in order of the show rating on Viki. It's disappointing that there isn't more imagination and effort put into them. The plots are aggressively simple and cliche, and -don't spam me with hate- the acting is pretty bad (more so in the last 2).
But you have to appreciate that they're even making the shows and showing love to the LGBT community. Demand for the shows will translate into funding, funding will translate into improvements in talent ability and writing.
And frankly with the writing, I'm not sure that even the most talented actor in the world could have landed the scenes.... but again, a sincere effort was made and hopefully will lead to more in the future.
A couple others that are noteworthy but not quite for this list-
Dumb Husky and His White Cat Shizun (Novel, but not yet published in English (coming soon though!!)):: An all-powerful evil emperor kills himself and wakes in his own 16 year old body. As he tried to change the past he will learn that those he loved most were undeserving of that love, and those he hated most were the ones he now wishes to hold tightly.
Guardian (Webnovel, and show (but show is 50% less gay because of censorship)):: A special team of humans and demons (aliens in the show) hold the line between their two peoples. Chief Zhao Yinlan and the mysterious Shen Wei are bound by a future one cannot imagine, and a past the other can never forget.
Word of Honor (Webnovel, and show (again 50% straighter bc censorship)):: A man who became an assassin on behalf of his prince realizes he serves an evil master and initiates a process that will lead to his own death within 1 year. After leaving his home, he meets, befriends, and slowly falls in love with a powerful outlaw king. Together they must try to reveal to the world a corrupt autocracy and avenge past wrongs.

why not to waste your money on Mulan (2020)
send message to Disney to stop with this lazy remake bullshit already and create actual new content
no Mushu
no songs
bisexual icon Li Shang replaced with bland inferior love interest
lead actress Liu Yifei trashed Hong Kong protesters, specifically supported HK’s brutal police
Hong Kong activists are asking international supporters to boycott it
perfect live action Mulan starring Vicki Zhao Wei made in 2009 already exists
here in Canada they’re asking for thirty five fucking dollars PLUS a Disney+ subscription
thirty five fucking dollars just to rent it
Edit: this blew up whew but I want to say if you’re on Twitter check out the hashtag #MilkTeaAlliance! It’s a grassroots effort by pro-democracy activists in Thailand, HK, and Taiwan to support each other and they have picked boycotting Mulan as an opportunity to raise awareness and solidarity!
