The reaction Yugi has when he finally realizes that, yes, Kaiba thinks he’s physically attractive and has since high school would be entertaining as fuck.

Like, rationally, he knows Kaiba had some kind of infatuation one way or another with his other self, but it never quite pinged that, no matter which one of them Kaiba was into, it was still, y’know, Yugi’s body that anything would be done with.  And that Kaiba was down for it.

Additionally, I don’t know what would be funnier: Yugi realizing it on his own or a very tired Seto spelling it out for him, fucking hell, Yugi, have a little self-confidence about some aspect of yourself for once in your life.

I was rereading jshk and, although I know sometimes the translation is not usually as accurate or the best (even when it is by the publisher with its license) BUT I looked up the kanjis and yep, it's correct both in the fans version and with the [official] of the publisher.

(Although, be careful, in the editorial they translated it as 'obsessed with his brother', while in the translation by the fans it is 'brother complex', the latter being the closest and most accurate translation, since from Japanese [ブラコン] in Spanish/English is brocon, precisely the kanji that Mei draws on Amane's cheek)

I'm also thankful that I had read something about brocon before or I wouldn't have noticed this.

The curious and funny and half-fucked thing in the sense that Aidairo blurted this out so casually through Mei that you don't know if she's making fun of him for it and warning Yashiro Jaksjk or it's just a joke, right, when you investigate brocon/brother complex the definition encompasses [taken from wikipedia, btw] a state of strong attachment and obsession with siblings and its general description is a sister/brother who has "feelings of love towards their brother" and "exclusive desire to possess"; adding that it usually has more influence on the way they develop their lives, for example, choosing spouses who are similar to their siblings.

(It has greater content but, basically, it is like a relative of the Oedipus complex) (I added the couples example because a while ago I read a publication about the similarities between Yashiro and Tsukasa and I found it curious)

I haven't read anyone else mention anything about this, maybe because I haven't found them or maybe it's not a big deal and just a joke from Aidairo to us (or maybe they thought we wouldn't notice idk) and I'm thinking about it too much.

Also because i don't think Mei knows much about the twins unless Tsukasa told her about it, and she just wanted to laugh at him for whatever she noticed about them (which, likewise, is strange because no one else has externalized that kind of thinking about the yugi brothers).

Anyway, I would like to know your opinion about the panels. (and I want to ask if you would extend your publication to an analysis of the Yugi Twins, taboo dilemma)

So, everything you said makes a strong connection with the story of the Yugi twins, and I've even been wondering for some time now about his obsession, possessiveness and insecurity born because of Tsukasa's disappearance when they were children.

He has a strong fear of losing, he tends to want to cry when he feels threatened, when he is very jealous, in short.

Do you know why there aren't many mentions of this? Because of the taboo. The fandom is just now starting to accept that there is something WEIRD about their relationship.

I've been cautious about talking about this precisely because I fear whether or not people are ready to talk about it. The fandom cannot support the idea of twins having a romantic relationship between them, and it is justifiable, not even nature accepts this, many bloodlines from ancient Egypt ended due to genetic diseases that perpetuated for years because of marriages between brothers.

So I'm taking it slow, talking about it little by little so that the fandom can understand that MAYBE, the twins are in love with each other, and like you said, we don't know if it's something canon or just a joke by Aidairo.

Anyway, talking about the panels, this is also written in English.

But yes, the story is developing in a way that leads us to a forbidden love between them. A love that Amane tries to suffocate…..

I've been receiving a lot of requests to talk or extend specific posts about the twins, so I decided that I'm going to make a more complete post about them both, I'm going to try to go a little deeper and make some things more explicit. So stay tuned for updates, it may take a while for this post to come out, but I will develop it soon.

Can you do a size comparison chart (based off the fact that Atem is a fuck-ton bigger than TKB)? World setting (mythical land/ancient Egypt/etc)? not everyone is a dragon! there are also humans and half-dragons in their world. they have a pretty low global population in comparison to others but theyre not rare per se. (not sure if or how many other fantasy races there are, havent really thought about it)

by specialties im guessing you mean skills/elemental powers? they arent 100% set in stone yet for everyone but for the main cast:

atem: [based on slifer] a god-class dragon, his domain are the skies and he feels most at home there. he can control the weather in his region, both intentionally and subconsciously (cue weird weather patterns when hes going through stuff). atems element is lightning but he can manipulate water and air pressure to a minor degree too!

yugi: [based on gandora] well-meaning but unintentionally destructive. his signature rays at full power can vaporize anything but require an insane amount of energy, so he only uses it as a last resort move since he will pass out right after. i affectionately call him a little nuke.

ryou: [based on CoH/angels] doesnt really have an element but hes venomous. he can either spit his venom like a cobra or turn it into pressurized steam. in low concentration it will make you trip balls and/or paralyze you but a high dosage will grant you a slow and painful death. hes also well-versed in shady magic.

amir: [based on ra] hes a bit of an anomaly, since hes an artificial god-class dragon. his element is fire(?), at his strongest capable of making a small sun to collapse into a black hole. amir can also super heat his surroundings, which is how he scorched half of the continent when he escaped containment... he also grows obsidian-like crystals on his body that he uses for both offense and defense.

malik: [based on ra] a past(?) god-class dragon, his element is true pure light that he can turn into weapons or use to set things on fire. he doesnt use his element often since its taxing and triggers a lot of old traumas. he prefers to use his "superior tactical knowledge" and "overwhelming charisma", to uh... various levels of success.

bakhura: [based on diabound] born non-elemental but developed the ability to shoot concentrated plasma out of spite and pure unadulterated wrath. summoned satan and wiped out a whole kingdom. fought god and tied. managed to survive the following: getting shot out of the sky (multiple times), a few mile drop with broken wings, being impaled and then sealed away in a magical prison for a very long time. i think that counts as a special skill.

i will draw a proper size comparison chart for both their humanoid and dragon forms at one point. im still working out their heights so i cant give you any exact measurements for the humanoid forms

as for the dragon forms i can give estimates!

in that one drawing atem isnt even fully grown yet, he gets at least 4 times bigger. he was still a teen during the calamity!

amir is THE biggest dragon in this au tho, dwarfing even a full grown atem. he towers over mountains, literally. luckily hes incapable of shifting whenever he feels like it or the whole world wouldve been burnt to ash by now. he did once and half of the continent is now a glass desert.

malik wouldve come in second in terms of height if he could shift at all.

yugi is a few feet taller than bakhura. still on the short size for his species.

ryou is the smallest. hes just a bit shorter than bakhura.

as for the setting, its a mythical land! im still working on the lore and worldbuilding but continent where the main story takes place is inspired by ancient egypt! im trying to avoid the generic european medieval fantasy (and its tough sobs)

cant think of anything else atm (its late as hell) so heres a shot of dragon atem instead!

Yugi hummed quietly as he tugged off his coat, tossing it carelessly over the top of Bakura's dresser. He could feel the thief king's eyes on him, intense gaze following his movements as Yugi pulled his messy hair up into a short ponytail. The tight muscle shirt he wore showed off his arms and, though he knew Bakura would never admit it, the thief enjoyed seeing Yugi's strength. He enjoyed knowing the boy who'd once been prey to his power now held even more over him.

"Stop taking so fucking long," Bakura huffed grumpily from where he stood by the door, his arms crossed tightly. Yugi looked him over slowly, his brow quirked as he let out a soft hum and crossed his own arms, playfully mimicking his stance. Bakura looked tense, stiff under all the pressures of his new life and desperate for the release only Yugi could give him.

"That's no way to talk to me," Yugi said simply as he took a slow step toward Bakura, watching the thief's throat bob as he swallowed thickly. Yugi hummed thoughtfully, reaching a hand out to trace his fingertips down the smooth column of his throat, taking in his racing pulse with an approving purr. "I go out of my way to come over for our visits, you should be more grateful."

Bakura let out a sharp annoyed huff, smacking Yugi's hand away and stepping away from the door. He paced around the room stiffly, like a panther stuck in a cage and Yugi watched him slowly. He knew how easily Bakura could snap under these conditions, how easily overwhelmed he was and how pissed he could get at the slightest provocation. Usually Yugi enjoyed trying to elicit that reaction from him but he could see how tired Bakura looked even from here, cheeks sunken in a bit and jaw clenched as he paced. And Yugi was kind, opting to take pity on the man before him as opposed to the alternative. As much as Yugi enjoyed tearing down his walls until he couldn't recognize himself, he was kinder than the thief was.

"As if you don't like getting your dick wet," Bakura snapped sharply, trying to fill the silence that threatened to overwhelm him. Yugi's gaze on him always made him twitchy, like the vessel for the Pharaoh's soul could see past the flesh on his bones straight down to his deepest sins. In some ways that comforted him, knowing that someone, anyone, could see him so clearly. That he might be known. 

The thought was just as alarming as it was comforting, it made the protective walls he'd put around himself crumble to dust everytime Yugi threw a smile his way and he found himself exposed. Bare. Vulnerable. So he lashed out again. "Don't act like you-"

"Did you wear what I requested?" Yugi asked quietly, his god damn sweet smile rattling Bakura to his bones. Yugi leaned back against the wall as he looked over Bakura's body, hidden away under his layers of clothes. "The things I picked out for you?"

Bakura shivered, the smooth drawl of Yugi's voice making him bite the inside of his cheek hard. "Of course I did," he snapped, shoving his hands in his pockets. "I'm good for that at least-"

"You're good for plenty of things," Yugi interrupted, biting his nail softly as he looked Bakura over before his grin widened. "Undress yourself."

Bakura stiffened, his heart threatening to beat out of his chest as he stared at Yugi, the silence growing between them. Bakura crossed his arms tighter, throwing a glare that lacked any real heat Yugi's way. All it got for him was a small laugh, the smooth sound making the thief's stomach tighten and he stifled another weak shudder.

"I thought you enjoyed doing that?" He huffed, waving his hand around in the air thoughtlessly. "Since you're such a freak I figured you couldn't wait to peel this off me."

Yugi laughed again, ignoring the small jab and biting his lip softly as he watched Bakura. "I do enjoy taking you apart with my hands," he hummed sweetly, taking a slow step closer to the thief. Bakura shivered hard at the soft sound of Yugi's socks on the hard floor and it wasn't long before he was so close their noses almost touched, his breath ghosting over Bakura's lips. "But right now, I want to see my treat being unwrapped. And you'll do that for me, won't you?" 

If Yugi continued talking to him with that voice, Bakura was sure he'd do just about anything he asked. Not that he wouldn't still fight about it, at least a bit.

"So what? Feeling lazy, then?" He snapped quietly, baring his teeth in an empty threat and Yugi simply giggled. Cool fingers gently trailed over the thief's jaw to card through his hair, getting caught on a few curls in their journey to grip a handful at the base of his neck. Bakura gasped weakly, his knees almost buckling as he melted into the tight grasp Yugi had on him. Almost.

"You're so cute when you act all defiant," Yugi hummed sweetly, leaning in to barely brush his lips over Bakura's. The ghost of a proper kiss that left the thief's heart howling for more. "Won't you be good for me? Just take your clothes off, let me see you."

Bakura shivered softly, his constant glare still fixed on Yugi as he reached his shaky hand up to cup his jaw, trying to lean in closer. But Yugi's grip on him held true, keeping him too far away from those tantalizing lips he so desperately needed to feel and he let out a weak whine into the space between them. Yugi wouldn't be so easily broken though, not by Bakura. He'd seen what the thief was capable of in the past but right now, he held all the power between them. So he waited patiently while Bakura stared at him, his eyes flicking around the man's face as if searching for something before meeting Yugi's gaze. Pale violet found bright magenta and Yugi could see the defiant gleam slowly leaving Bakura's eyes. He could see in real time as the thief slowly let himself melt into the grip Yugi had on him, his gaze softening a bit before he let out a weak sigh and looked away.

So easy.

"Fine," he muttered, watching Yugi take a small step back, just enough to give him some room. His eyes watched every movement of Bakura's hands as he trailed them over the front of his shirt. He grabbed the collar of his shirt tightly in an attempt to hide the shaking of his fingers, tugging it off quickly to reveal the red lace hidden underneath. Yugi hummed approvingly, biting his lip as he watched. 

The lingerie he'd chosen fit the thief exactly as he thought it would, the deep v of the collar showing off his chest. Straps criss crossed over his arms and shoulders, keeping the lace in place and Yugi purred as more of that deep bronze skin was exposed to him.

"Beautiful," he breathed, letting his hand trace down the thief's chest lightly. The barely there brush of his fingers had Bakura's cock jumping in his pants, the offending fabric only managing to get in his way most days but it felt borderline tortuous in Yugi's presence. Bakura shivered under Yugi's touch, as he always did, leaning into it with a weak sigh and closing his eyes. He tried to block out the softness of Yugi's gaze, tried to hide from the tender care he always showed him. It hurt and not in a way that he was accustomed to, it made his heart twist uncomfortably. Like he was on display for the one person in the world who could see all of his flaws and still find something in him worthy of care. He wasn't sure he liked that.

But that was just Yugi wasn't it?

He was sure he still hated Yugi, he had to. He didn't have the option for anything but that. It would make their visits feel too real if he didn't, like he actually wanted to be under that tender man's stare, like he craved it. Which he didn't. Absolutely not. 

"I want to see the rest," Yugi hummed quietly, his voice cutting off Bakura's thoughts and making the thief let out a weak sigh as his fingertips trailed down Bakura's stomach. Yugi chuckled softly as his skin twitched under his feather light touch, his whole body leaning into it almost desperately. Bakura did his best to remain still, his eyes staying closed in some attempt to try and hide even now. It wasn't working, it very rarely did. 

Yugi hummed quietly, the soft sound like music to Bakura's ears. "I can be patient," he murmured softly and it sounded almost like a threat. "I have time."

Bakura wouldn't come out of this unscathed, his heart already doing weak flips every time Yugi spoke and he bit the inside of his cheek hard. The comforting taste of copper filled his mouth, coating his tongue and managing to ground him just enough for him to open his eyes. He almost wished he hadn't. Yugi's gaze remained fixated on him, soft and tender. It filled Bakura with something warm and made him let out a weak whine as those God awful fingertips left him. 

"Come on then, thief king," Yugi murmured playfully, leaning in to press a soft kiss to his brow. Fuck, he was always so unbearably soft. "Let me see you."

I made a short post awhile ago about "what if Pegasus adopted Seto and Mokuba instead of Gozaburo?" Obviously this requires Pegasus and Cecilia to be a bit older than canon, but just roll with it.

I'm probably not going to ever write this fic, but this is the closest to Pegasus redemption that I'll ever get to, so here's the rough summary of what the story would have been.

"According To Plan"

Pegasus and Cecelia go to the orphanage where Seto and Mokuba are on the same day that Gozaburo visits and end up adopting the brothers. Cecelia likes the idea of adopting a pair of brothers because she knows they have tough odds staying together otherwise. Pegasus sees Seto confronting Gozaburo Kaiba and is aware of the man’s reputation for cruelty and decides in that moment that there’s no way he’s letting Seto and Mokuba go home with Gozaburo. He says that he won’t stop Seto from playing chess with Gozaburo, but the outcome will not determine who adopts him (or maybe that scene goes differently, but the point is, they still play chess and Seto still wins, but doesn’t get anything from Gozaburo). Seto still invents his holographic technology and Industrial Illusions becomes an absolute fucking Nintendo, but Gozaburo never dies and is forever butt-hurt about losing that chess game to a child, and as a teenager Seto formally steals the title of chess grandmaster from Gozaburo. Cecelia still dies and Pegasus doesn’t fall apart because he has Seto and Mokuba to take care of. When Cecelia dies, Seto is still very distant from Pegasus, but after losing Cecelia, Seto breaks down in front of Pegasus and finally calls him father, and that’s the moment where Pegasus is resolved to keep it together. Cecelia loved these children, and he has to love them enough for both of them. Pegasus starts homeschooling them so that he’s giving them the most attention and care, and this includes traveling the world together as part of their studies. Both kids also take a lot of interest in Pegasus's work, Mokuba mostly in the monster design part and Seto in the actual business management. Pegasus takes Seto and Mokuba to Egypt on a homeschooling trip, and their first night there, Seto has a weird dream (induced by Millennium Items or Shadow Magic or proximity to ancient shit) that he doesn’t want to tell Pegasus about in detail, he just says that it's weird and he seems on edge because of it. Pegasus still gets the Millennium Eye from Shadi, and young Seto meets Shadi, who sees his potential but tells him that he’s not yet ready for the power of a Millennium Item and to return when he is an adult. Pegasus immediately takes Seto and Mokuba home to Japan. Mokuba did not meet Shadi, and Seto never forgets about that day. Seto does become the Duel Monsters champion, and then his champion status is taken by Yugi Mutou, who bears a Millennium Item. This makes him want to go back to Egypt so that he can claim the Millennium Item that Shadi said he was destined to possess. He thinks doing so will make him more powerful and let him beat Yugi and be champion again. Duel Monsters was how he and Pegasus and Mokuba all coped with Cecelia’s death, so having that champion title taken away from him when it meant so much was a hard blow. Pegasus forbids him from returning to Egypt, and Seto asks if he thinks he can really stop him. Pegasus says that he knows he can’t (he’s not going to keep him prisoner by freezing his assets, even though he knows that's an option), but pleads with him to reconsider because he has no idea what he’s getting into. Seto says that he’ll consider his words, and Pegasus can see that that’s the best answer he could hope for. He can't control his son; he knows that Seto is driven and headstrong. He can only hope to guide him down the right path.

Notes for a fic idea I will probably never write:

AU where Seto (Mokuba naturally goes with him, cannot separate the bros) ends up raised by Sugoroku and Yugi ends up raised by Gozaburo.

So, the gist of this idea that my half-asleep mind spawned is, apparently Sugoroku knew Seto’s parents somehow in this AU?  And he is  f u c k i n g  L I V I D  when he hears what happens to them and that the other relatives are about to dump their poor kids in an orphanage after taking their money, so he just sort of... takes them in himself, fuck those shitty relatives.

Meanwhile, Yugi is still, technically,  Sugoroku’s grandkid!  ... that Sugoroku has no idea about, because his son’s fuckin’ around and Yugi’s mom was a conquest he ditched.  After she dies for whatever reason, it’s Yugi that ends up in the orphanage here.  And, well, Yugi’s smart himself, and has a bit of an underlying mean streak that could be useful in business if properly utilized, so...

As you can imagine, the boys turn out kind of wildly different?  Seto is still... not necessarily great at emotions, that is just not happening?  But he’s also a hell of a lot happier and a bit more willing to reach out to others.  Mokuba still has Big Feral Gremlin Energy(tm), but is generally nicer about it?  And is also a lot happier, with actual friends and stuff and not the head of a feral child gang.

Yugi, conversely, becomes one hell of an actor.  He knows using the sweet interior he’s tried guarding for years as a mask will charm/manipulate most people and will use it to the fullest.  He’s also...  very, very more in touch with that mean streak, the one who will look at someone who fucked with him and goes “I am about to ruin this person’s entire life, short as it is.”  And.  He can and will.  Just ask Gozaburo.  If he was still alive, that is.

See, he comes across a very special program, which is the actual mind/soul(?) impression of a certain child that was supposed to be the heir, and Yugi does what Yugi does best: charms him, befriends him, sees him as a useful tool.  And then kinda...  team up to metaphorically (and also kinda literally) haunt Gozaburo’s ass until he jumps out the damn window anyway.  Also oh guess what, little big brother and another special guest (Yugi’s Lone OG Friend(tm) Anzu) kiiiiiiiiinda helped Yugi take over the company too.  \8D/

Yugi, being the lone character actually normal about card games, doesn’t go fully Willy Wonka about them, despite absolutely still turning KaibaCorp into a game-related company too because fuck the war machine and especially fuck Gozaburo’s legacy, doesn’t actually get into a dust-up with Seto!  In fact, he kinda has an awkward crush on him after playing some Duel Monsters with him.

But.  Um.  Being raised by one of the Kings of Shitty Dads means Yugi, bless his heart, is even more awkward about making actual, genuine friends and has even worse self-esteem than OG Yugi, especially since he’s damned well aware that the manipulation tactics and that cruel streak he used to survive are not really useful for making close relationships.  Also, in his mind, make him a bad person and no one wants to be around a bad person he doesn’t deserve friends why even try.

So it probably takes until Duelist Kingdom for him and Seto to... actually really interact and by then Yugi is in a blind panic because, since Mokuba isn’t getting kidnapped here, he’s freaking out about Anzu being in danger, and...  Well, while Yugi isn’t one to go jumping off of castles, he has his own fun self-destructive habits to contend with when he thinks he’s failed her!  \8D/;;;;;;;;;;

So yeah, this is what I end up coming up with when that role-swap picture I saw months ago still lives rent-free in my head and I’m half-asleep.

ETA: also the whole Solid Light Duel Monsters tech happens because Yugi is a smart rich kid with crazy tech at his fingertips with a crush and wants to impress his very not normal about card games crush.

ETA 2: Also penguin guy gets to stay on the board of directors because Yugi enjoys cute things and thus is more willing to compromise with him on the penguin thing.

Side by side with his lighter half, Kek waited for Malik to say something, anything. Even a sigh would put some of his anxiety to rest. They escaped the room where the bastard Bakura and Touzoku-Ou doppelgangers resided and now sat in their shared guest room, silent as death save for the electrical buzz of their bedside lamp.

After what felt like an eternity, Kek could no longer stay quiet. “Albi, please talk to me.”

“What’s there to talk about?”

His voice returned a sprinkle of joy into Kek’s words. “Whatever upset you in the other room, I would think. You want me to go kill those bastards for hurting you and Yugi? Should I tie up the pharaoh so he can’t interfere?”

“No. Leave them alone.” Sniffling, Malik turned his head away from his partner, resting his cheek on his bunched up knees. “I lost my cool. I should have been the one to stop you, not Atem. I shouldn’t have joined the fighting.”

Snorting, his other half scooted closer, bumping their hips together. “Is that what’s bothering you? Why? They deserved it.”

“I’m supposed to be your light!” Malik snapped, fists clenching. “But what I did… That Bakura is right; I’m not a good person. I’m not like Yugi or Ryou. I’m a short-tempered, violent thug, no different from them.”

“Now you’re being dramatic,” Kek muttered, rolling his eyes. He shifted and propped his elbow on his knee so he could rest his chin on the palm of his hand. “We already talked about this, Malik.”

“Don’t patronize me,” The other blond said, twisting his body farther away. “Tonight confirmed I’ve been right all along. I haven’t changed a bit.”

A hand, large yet gentle, touched Malik’s shoulder. Slowly, Kek grazed his fingertips down his boyfriend’s spine, lavender eyes observing the way the action made Malik squirm. With a chuckle, he lazily drawled, “So what?”

Malik peeked over his shoulder. “What?”

“So you haven’t changed. I don’t really agree, but let’s pretend for a minute… What does it matter?”

“Are you joking? It matters a lot!”

“Why? Our siblings, Yugi and his friendship crew, Ryou, Bakura, Touzoku-Ou… Me. We all accept you the way you are. Whether you think you’ve changed or not, you can’t deny that truth.”

Eyes widening, Malik turned his head to stare somewhere besides Kek’s face. “I’m supposed to be a good person. A light to your dark.”

“You are, though. Think about it like this,” Kek slid his hand under Malik’s shirt, gently brushing against the rough scars, “Atem, as he is, isn’t ‘dark,’ per se. But he is darker than Yugi. And you, going by your standards, aren’t necessarily a light. But you are lighter than me.”

Silence followed, so Kek sighed. “You set a really unachievable goal for yourself if you think you need to be Yugi or Ryou’s level of light.”

“Why is it unachievable, though? They’ve suffered plenty, too, but they are good people.”

“Sure, but you aren’t a bad person, Albi. Since we separated and you’ve been freed from my unconscious influence, you haven’t killed or tortured anyone. In fact, with the exception of roughhousing with Bakura or Touzoku-Ou, you haven’t been in any physical altercation.”

“Until today when I blew it.” Malik spun around and collapsed onto Kek’s lap. “I went back to fucking square one. I wanted to kill those guys so bad.”

Kek scratched Malik’s scalp lightly. “They did something to our Ryou?” Malik grunted in acknowledgement. “So you lost your temper because they hurt someone you love? Why does that reset your progress?”

“Because… Because I shouldn’t have…”

“Am I also back to square one for attacking them?”

Blinking, Malik craned his head to look up at Kek. “Of course not! You were just—”

Grinning, Kek interrupted, “Angry because they hurt you. Same as you felt after learning they hurt Ryou. Why are you playing favorites?” He poked Malik’s nose playfully. “You should learn to love yourself at least half as much as the rest of us love you.”

His eyebrows scrunching his forehead, Malik dropped his gaze away from Kek, staring thoughtfully out into the room. Wordless, Kek resumed rubbing and scratching through the mass of flaxen hair, occasionally flicking Malik’s earring to see if he would get a response. Ten minutes of total quiet came and went, and Malik reworked his position to lay flat on his stomach.

“Will you rub my back? It’s hurting a bit.”

“I’ll have to charge you.”

Malik’s lips twitched behind the strands of hair obscuring his profile. “I’m good for it.”

Ok, this is about to get long sorry.

Honestly? A second chance. I do not feel like he really had a fair shot at being anything other then what he'd become. This is especially true while he's attached to The Dark God as Yami Bakura.

Please note that I am not excusing his actions, but with that said many of the other characters (and I am including season 0/early Yu-Gi-Oh) were not declared evil despite doing similar actions. Marik was redeemed, Seto isn't seen as evil, and even Yami Yugi isn't exempt from this. In my opinion, the anime/manga (likely unintentionally) made Atem look kinda hypocritical with how it went about Bakura and Yami Marik but that's a whole different rant

What I mean is he's over here throwing chance after chance at Seto and anyone else he likes (I love Seto, this is not me shitting on him. I also love Atem) but somehow he draws the line at Bakura??? Seto was after him because he couldn't handle losing but the massacre victim is where you draw the line??? Really??? That is not a good look, either Atem is inconsistent when it comes to that for whatever reason or he's a hypocrite who makes his own rules and decides how redeemable you are based on how much he likes you.

I would like to believe it's an inconsistency, though admittedly if I wrote Atem it would not be. He would feel deep regret for a lot of his actions. Ok I'm getting off topic shit.

But basically I just feel like if Atem is not in fact a hypocrite he'd of looked into Bakura more, realized that he's being too hasty with destroying him when he was attached to a literal dark god (there is no way that didn't affect Bakura's thought patterns, a god is going to overpower a human, there is no way to tell who is causing what to happen until they're separated ok).

Long story short: A more consistent or non-hypocritical Atem would've, in my opinion, annoyed the fuck out of Bakura by trying to play hero and save him from this hole he'd dug himself. He may have even felt obligated to some extent because of his family's involvement. Bakura made his own choices, obviously, but it seems to me that for a while he thought he really was in the right. (Don't feel like going into that much because there is a lot of layers and this is long af already).

I also do want to point out however that Bakura already has a bias against Atem, every action that Atem does that Bakura perceives as negative would be highlighted whether he's consciously doing it or not. That complicates things a lot more. Also being deemed bad by people who have also committed murder? Uh, not a good look. Pot meet kettle.

ANYWAYS I can rant about this for hours but I'll cut it here an say that a fate I'd give Bakura is:

A second chance BUT he is stuck with Atem so they're forced to see more than the biases they may have. I think the Gods recognizing how complex this situation was and giving a fair shot would be great. I've actually been meaning to edit his bio to incorporate that idea more. It makes more sense, but I'm explaining it horribly here.

a Yorishiro is something that's important or significant to a school mystery

but to be more specific, it's a memory, not an item

for example:

The Misaki stairs | Yako ; a memory of Misaki, the memory of being included and being loved form being given something no one else was. and her boundary is based off where she stays and meets Misaki, she treasures the way he'd scold her. she cares more for the memories, not the specific item.

The hell of Mirrors | Mitsuba/previous ; Mitsuba is speculated to have a mirror for a Yorishiro, which is where he sees memories. such as something like real!Mitsuba joining the photography club. and the previous no.3 seems like his Yorishiro was the mirrors/domain itself, which contains memories and he seems like he sees himself highly. so it's more like a memory then a item.

Shijima-San of the art room | Shijima ; her Yorishiro is a sketch book, but most importantly when Mei-San wished for a better self. and Shijima kept the memory of Mei-San instead of the actual sketch book, now she is shown to apsolutely despise drawing, and most likely the sketch book, but I get it's significant but it's not as important as the memory.

The 4-PM bookstacks | Tsuchigomori ; he's the most obvious honestly, he clearly doesn't entirely care for the lunar rock but keeps it because Amane asked him and he said yes, he doesn't necessarily care for the item, but cares about the significance of the fate change of Yugi Amane, in short, it's the only memory he gives a fuck about. the only thing he keeps track of.

The grim reaper of death | Hakubo ; as much as he treasures Sumire, in a sick Oni way. he doesn't treasure anything more then the memories they shared together and what he wished he did. which is most likely why is deepest part of his boundary is also because it's the most important place of memory, as much as he "cared" for his make shift family it wasn't as much as Sumire. and they even went memory browsing in chapter 93. he doesn't necessarily care about Sumire as an object or her looks. her memory

Hanako-San of the bathroom | Hanako-Kun ; his Yorishiro is Tsukasa, not specifically mentioned but it's most likely. and his most significant memory would be when he killed him or when they were children and he was cured. and who did he want to do things with his entire life? despite wanting to go to space, which would be leaving, but he wanted to bring Tsukasa a star, his most precious memory is of his brother. they're insanely close(they are twins after all lol) and why would Hanako-Kun care about an item? he gave away his "most valuable" thing but clearly cares about Tsukasa more. and the Yugi brothers seem to focus on memories. like mentions of murder and how valued their childhood was.

also why Nene sees a memory as the true innermost Yorishiro.

anyways I guess this would be put under a weird explanation? a rant? idk but I find the seven mysteries so interesting!
