Finding the Best Mayan Ruins in Mexico
Many of the best Mayan ruins in Mexico are found in the Yucatan Mexico tucked into the jungle and along the coast. We love learning about the history and culture of the places we travel. If you are traveling to Cancun, Playa del Carmen, or elsewhere in the Riviera Maya, we highly recommend taking the time to visit some of the best Mayan ruins in Mexico. While you likely think of lazy beach days…

Fun fact!
When Cordova came to the Yucatán peninsula, he asked the natives what their land was called and one replied with something similar to "yucatán" so Cordova spread the word that Yucatán was what the peninsula was called.
What the native actually meant by saying yukatán was along the lines of, "I don't understand you."

Dinofact #20
The most supported theory of the cause of the Cretaceous-Paleogene Extinction Event is the bolide impact hypothesis, which states that most the dinosaurs (excepting aves, modern-day birds) were extincted by a meteor impact. This theory, proposed by Walter Alvarez, Luis Alvarez, and colleagues in 1980, is supported by increased iridium deposits worldwide and the Cretaceous-Paleogene boundary, as well as shocked quartz, also found worldwide. In 1991, a massive crater measuring 180 km (110 mi) wide was discovered in the Yucatán Peninsula of southeastern Mexico. Evidence suggests that an extraterrestrial projectile approximately 5 to 15 kilometers (3 to 9+1⁄2 miles) wide impacted the site 66 million years ago, causing a chain of tsunamis, earthquakes, wildfires, and other disasters, that led to an "impact winter", leading to the extinction of all dinosaurs except for grain-eating birds.

Lucha Libre, Cancun Style
Lucha Libre is a peculiarly Mexican, over-the-top form of wrestling that recalls the WWF in the United States. Only it’s even weirder, with lycra-clad luchadores wearing colorful masks to hide their identity, raucous crowds, and a macho-man atmosphere.
The name literally means “free wrestling,” and the sport has been around since the late 1800s.
We went to see a show in Cancun while we were visiting. It wasn’t as loud or crowded as the ones we attended in 2019 in Guadalajara, but it was still fun. To really understand Lucha Libre, you might want to see the 2006 sports comedy film Nacho Libre, starring Jack Black as a would-be Mexican wrestling star. It was filmed in Oaxaca, Mexico.

Customers are being asked to turn off all unused electrical devices and air conditioners during peak demand hours of 1pm to 3pm and 6pm to 8pm.
The demand for power registered at 117 megawatts, exceeding the country's available power of just over 107 megawatts.
2. Belize has retained its Tier 2 ranking on the 2023 Trafficking in Persons Report due to its significant efforts in addressing human trafficking but has not convicted any traffickers or initiated new prosecutions.
The country has not adequately overseen labor recruitment and investigated allegations of labor trafficking.
Belize has made progress in identifying more trafficking victims, improving indicators, providing training, public awareness campaigns, and making a shelter available for victims.
3. The People's Constitution Commission in Belize has launched an education campaign to engage citizens in the constitutional reform process, targeting specific demographics of Belizeans.
The campaign aims to increase knowledge of the constitution from 2% to 50% by the time the PCC makes its interim report in October.
The campaign features collaborations with the Ministry of Education and the Reporter News Paper to disseminate information and raise awareness about the reform process.
4. Police Commissioner Chester Williams has been elected as the President of the Commission of Chiefs of Police and Police Directors of Central America, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Colombia (CJDCAMCC).
The commission's mandate revolves around fostering inter-regional and international cooperation with various security organizations and agencies, promoting the exchange of information and expertise, and coordinating efforts to combat transnational crime and enhance the safety of citizens.
With the assumption of the Presidency, Belize is set to host the 28th Ordinary General Assembly of the commission in November 2023.
