Cara 🥺you do flatter me! Thank you for asking about Rebirth! So I have three separate docs but they are just different parts of the same story. It’s an original fic idea that I started writing on the bus on the way to work at 6:30am back in the winter of 2019. I also have a playlist (suprise, surprise)

The basic idea is that the main character feels dissatisfied with her life and an indescribable pull back to where she spent her early childhood, so she travels there and uncovers some secrets and pieces together some old memories. I still haven’t worked out all of the kinks but I do have a lot of sections written.

Under the cut is the current beginning for Rebirth, and I hope you enjoy it.

“Looks like trouble has arrived and she has brought backup.”

Melanie grinned at her posse and winked at the bouncer as he let them through the front door, affectionately squeezing his arm as she slipped past. Anya, Billie and Emily danced past her arm in arm giggling, ready for the evening ahead. She ran her hand down the wall as she skipped up to them, feeling the velvet texture of the wallpaper and the bass rumbling from deep within the club.

As they made their way past the entrance and through the busy main floor they waved and blew kisses at friends and acquaintances, sharing knowing smiles. The air in the club was thick with anticipation, sweat and elation - most of the people inside were tipsy, drunk or something else entirely, and if they weren’t when they came in they soon would be. It was contagious. The girls couldn’t stop grinning - tonight was shaping up to be one for the books.

The four women made their way to the bar, finding a spot in the middle. They scoped out the other patrons while they waited - spotting modern socialites, models, a handful of very eligible bachelors, and musicians amongst the rabble. It was a veritable who’s who of the city’s nightlife and the four of them fit in very nicely.

Emily caught the attention of the young bartender and ordered tequila shots and a round of drinks: a cosmopolitan for Emily; a vodka martini for Anya; a margarita for Billie; and a mojito for Melanie. They chatted amongst themselves while they waited for the drinks.

“Oh my god, did you see who Stephanie Tomlinson is with? Talk about utter disaster,” as usual Emily was straight in with the gossip, “he isn’t even hot anymore. Talk about a waste of energy!”

“Emily you’re so judgemental! They look like they’re having fun,” Anya said, “Besides they’ve been friends since University - it’s a deeper kind of love. I think it’s very romantic.”

“Oh please Anya, it’s not love and it’s not romantic. It’s just plain sad.” Billie chimed in, agreeing as always with Emily, “anyway, she has always been so boring. Who cares about Stephanie bloody Tomlinson? I’m much more interested in why Luke is over there flirting with some blonde chick.”

Billie pointed towards a booth to the side of the bar and shared a smirk with Emily. Anya stared in disbelief as she watched Luke whisper into his companion’s ear. Disbelief soon turned into rage and Melanie glared at the other two girls, as she grabbed Anya’s trembling hand.

Shards of Glass

Traveling merchant, comes to town selling g his wears. There are those unimpressed by his items. Many pass by until she comes along. A young girl is drawn to the man, his cart, and one particular item the man posses. Hidden away under a satin black cloth the girl finds something of interest; a piece of glass, just a broken piece of glass. The man doesn't understand why the girl offers to buy such a thing as this from him, but needing the money the transaction is made.

In time the girl takes the glass home, polishes it, and looks at herself in the shard. She looks, and looks, and looks for days on end. She is entranced by what she sees. Those around her try to take the glass from her, but to no avail. She continues to sit wasting away I her room being ever drawn deeper into her reflection. Why is this happening, why can't she stop this? Just place the glass down and move away, just stop this, someone please help me.

In time the girl finds herself lost, trapped within a void that she can't escape from. Darkness has taken her. Trapped behind her own eyes, she watches her actions but can't stop or comprehend what she's done. Her family, friends even random strangers are unable to stop her actions. In time her own body turns against her.

Why did she, why was she drawn to that piece of glass? What did she see as she stared deeply within, can't come to terms which what she's do or who she's become... It was that glass, just a shard of glass.
