Hybes survival show 'runext' is so....questionable (Spoilers ahead)

First of all some of these trainees shouldn't even be here. The youngest is 12. She's japanese so her korean isn't very good and shes been consistently ranked lowly (i have nothing against Ena btw. i actually think shes could be a great main vocalist with more training) Its not just her. Two of the other trainees (one 16 and another 15) have only been training for under 3 months before this show. Why would they even let these girls compete? When they're going up against a 21 year old strong vocalist and another trainee that almost debuted with lesserafim? (ruka or haruka as shown in the lesserafim documentary)

Why? Because the 16 year old (wonhee) might be rigged to win. People are very upset about her and the discourse has become a little inappropriate. Her skills are lacking as you would expect from a 16 year old that's been training for 3 months and shes made mistakes on stage yet shes being given so much screentime and lines compared to other contestants. People are worried that hybe will debut her simply because of her looks. For this shes been brutally slandered online (she has also been well supported which only spurs the slandering more since they fear she might actually debut). Its clear her self confidence about this wasn't that strong to begin with and now (because hybe decided to put her on this show so damn early) shes being dragged online.

I also understand a 12 year old trainee isn't unheard of. Jihyo of twice began training at 8. however, this girl is being put on a survival show to DEBUT at the end...a sixth grader. And we all know how brutal these shows can get. This coming from hybe, one of the biggest labels of the industry. You didn't like them debuting Hyein of newjeans? Then you'll hate this show. (im also aware a 5 year old has debuted before but that doesn't mean we should be normalizing it!!!)

A more technical point to it being questionable is the given and taken and bad boy performances.

For given and taken: The lower ranked trainees were performing with the higher ranked ones but these teams were competing. A girl named Iroha from the lower rank team slipped and fell on a necklace. The lower rank team still won the performance. That's not necessarily a pity win in itself. (even though I strongly think it was since the other team had Jiwoo, the eldest trainee and the monster vocalist that was mentioned before who gave a near perfect performance.) What makes it obvious is that these teams were still ranked amongst themselves. And where did Iroha place? 2nd. Out of the 4 lower rank trainees on her team she placed 2nd after a fall.

For the bad boy performance: I really don't know what they were thinking here. Similarly, 3 trainees were performing the same song and were being divided into low, mid, and high ranks. Jiwoo was ranked low while another trainee, Jongeun, was ranked high. Now Jongeun gave a very well rounded performance but if you watch it you'll agree that both of her teammates outshined her. They frame it as a big surprise too. Because the whole time you're being shown Jiwoo being a great leader and having no problem lead the team to the best opening performance and then slaying. But then they hit us with her ranking as though she maybe was being a little too self assured and was given low because her abilities weren't all they were cracked up to be. That's how it feels. Except....she did amazing? She was right to be confident? It just felt mean spirited and in my opinion i think it's a stupid move to try and make her work harder or maybe shake her confidence. It just made no sense.

This is more of an opinion but I fear they are evil editing Yunah so she gets less votes because of how talented she is. I think Hybe wants the final lineup to be Jiwoo, Jeemin, Youngseo, Chanelle, Ruka, and Wonhee. The evil editing combined with them highlighting Jeemin and Yunah's little rivalry/friendship makes me feel like they want either one or the other to debut.

The last point is the setup of this show is god awful. Who came up with this ranking system? And why are all the songs absolutely shit for a survival show? Bad boy and given and taken are the only choices i really like. Attention felt like a hybe plug and while I liked the performance and that song, there's not much to display vocally. Its just a bunch of weird choices from weird people.

Then, Taeri, from the school cafeteria, tells Eun Dano that she is a character in the comic "Secret" like everybody else there. Eun Dano learns that her character is not even a main character, but rather an extra and she doesn't have much time to live. Eun Dano is stunned, but she decides she wants to find her own true first love and not someone written by the comic writer. One day, she falls down the school stairs. She feels her back touch the back of another student, among a group of male students. Her heart suddenly starts to flutter. Eun Dano wants to find the male student who made her heart flutter. She eventually finds the student (Ro Woon) and he is her classmate. He is a character that doesn't have a name. They get close and Eun Dano names him "Haru"

MY ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE KDRAMA EVER OML nora as dano??? seungkwan as haru??? sign me tf up. they'd be the absolute cutest. although seungkwan is quite different to haru with his personality being a lot more lively he'd still go really well with this plot! although it has a bit of a sadder (?) ending it's such a good drama. seungkwan would screw himself over again and again for nora because he's head over heels. not matter how much trouble it gets him in he'd do anything for her and vice versa 🙁 i can see vernon playing taeri and jun playing baekyung as well it fits so perfect

Plot: Do Minjun, an alien who came to earth 400 years ago, begins a romance with the stuck-up A-list Korean actress Cheon Songi.

songi and minjun ARE LITERALLY THEM the minjun vibes sunghoon gives are uncanny. kayla would definitely bring sunghoon out of his shell just like songi does minjun and they'd be the most adorable couple. i see them stargazing a lot together just like songi and minjun did, sunghoon would also be such a tease and play games just like minjun 💀

However ehen Huijun really does end up dead in her apartment, despite her innocence Bonghui suddenly finds herself as a suspect.

here's your ceo yj fic lirin 💀💀💀🫶 as hectic as this kdrama is the fact that jiuk sacrifices EVERYTHING for bonghui will never not bring me to tears. his job, career, reputation and even his own life??? the literal description of ceo yj. he's known for being ruthless and cold, emotionless sparing no sympathy for anyone in his court so when you finally break down his walls, he's bending over backwards to prove your innocence. even though he has to question his morals, he ultimately does what's right, because he loves you

ej and jw 🤭🤭🤭 they just fit so perfectly in this drama??? idek what else to say tbh. hyunmin would 100% be jay, with seowoo as sunoo. the love triangle would be the most interesting thing ever since all three guys have completely different personalities along with different feelings towards ej. i can see jungwon being completely hostile at first but ej would melt his heart eventually falling 🙁 it'd be the cutest thing ever i need a remake with this lineup

°Trainee Life °

In 2016, Minju auditioned for MKTB Entertainment with the song Better by BoA

At first, she thought she had failed the audition and was about to audition for a different company

Out of the seven members of MYSTIQUE, she was the fourth to join the company

Like Jihyun, her family was against her becoming an idol at first, but after seeing how hard she worked, they let her continue it

She and Aeri would go to different studios and go to the company together since they were neighbors

Since she's had several experiences with both singing and dancing, she has had no problem keeping up with practices and lessons

She was one of the trainees who asked the most advice from Iseul during her first few days as a trainee

The other trainees describe her as an "It Girl" because she was highly likable, pretty, and talented

She auditioned for Mixnine and ranked 7th in the Just Dance Showcase

She was eliminated at ep 10 and was later ranked 48

°Idol Life °

When MYSTIQUE was finally set to debut, Minju was the third member to be officially included

She helped choreograph their debut song

Ever since then, she would always help choreograph most of the dances for their title tracks

R U Next? My top 6

So I decided to make this post before any of the other trainees have to leave the show, thereby messing up the final lineup in my head. For the most part I don’t actually have an order, but you’ll probably understand my choice of numbering when you reach the end of their post.

6. Minju

From the beginning itself I liked her. She is obviously more on the softer side, in terms of performance and behaviour both, which obviously seems to appeal to people. She’s also quite talented, and is able to maintain stable performance. She can add more dynamic to the group and balance the soft side and the powerful concepts. She is also a visual, and it probably acts as one of her biggest plus points.

5. Yunah

She had an extremely strong start, and proved herself right from the beginning itself. Although she is currently not doing as well as she might have expected, she can be a very valuable performer for the group.

Also, her chaotic energy will really help the group during variety shows.

4. Jiwoo

A well developed vocalist is what the kpop industry is in desperate need of, and here’s someone who promises to do just that. Her vocals are so effortless that people might not see it as anything special, but that’s just because you and I don’t have ears that are trained to track musical goodness, however subtle it might be. Also she has been showing some leadership qualities in the show, so I think we already have a potential leader?

3. Jeemin

I mean, she didn’t just walk in and rank first during the monthly evaluations! She kept getting robbed in the earlier episodes, but she’s a gem that is consistently bright and brilliant. I hope people do recognize her for this. She also reminds me so much of Eunchae from LE SSERAFIM, and I would love to see the two together.

2. Chanelle

She showed from the beginning itself that she is a girl with big ambitions, and she seems to be working hard for it. I will wage a war if she’s suddenly eliminated somehow - to ignore a talent like hers is just stupid. She’s an all rounder, and she has the vocals to compete with other vocalists of her generation. She can also rap pretty well, so it goes without saying that she’s one of the most valuable assets that this team can have.

1. Youngseo

Am I the only one who’s seeing a golden maknae in formation? I mean, girl went off like a bomb and has been consistent ever since! Not having her in the final lineup is going to be a big, big mistake. In fact - it would be the biggest mistake ever to be made in the history of survival shows. She also has some leadership skills, and has the ability to think of both the team and herself. She’s the absolute ace!

As a side note, here are two honourable mentions

Jihyun

She is perhaps the most versatile trainee in the show, although she definitely shines brighter in darker concepts. 📝: After some ‘late night activities’ with your girlfriend, you couldn’t tell whether practice was difficult because of your wobbly legs or because of the non stop teasing from the other contestants

“Good morning, baby” Yunah’s morning voice woke you up.

You lifted your head from her chest to look around, seeing that you weren’t in your own bed in the other dorm. That’s when the steamy memories of last night’s activity had hit you.

It must’ve been the stress mixed with the lack of Yunah’s touch because the sex was so damn good, it had you passed out before your girlfriend could even say goodnight.

It was only supposed to be a cuddle night but the way Yunah spoke huskily in your ear while her hands slid into your pyjama pants were enough to take your mind away from the story you were telling her.

Yunah smiled at the way you rubbed your eyes and continued looking around. None of Yunah’s roommates were in sight.

“Shit, did we sleep in?” You groaned and reached to grab your phone but Yunah made you lie your head down on her chest again.

“No you woke up in time actually. It’s only 6:30”

“Then where are the others?”

“They all slept in the lower rank dorms. I guess they heard us”

You sat up in a flash. Eyes wide and face red. “Oh my god seriously?! I don’t wanna go to practice anymore!” You whined.

“I’m sure they’re not gonna make a fuss out of it. Most of them are dating after all” Yuna said and slid out of the bed to stretch, revealing her almost naked body if it wasn’t for her black boxers.

Your eyes locked onto her back muscles as she continued stretching and then to the extremely visible scratch marks that spread all over the area.

“Was that all from me?” You asked in disbelief and glaring down your fingernails.

“Yes, Princess. Can’t help yourself, can you?” Yunah winked and grabbed new clothes from her luggage. “Wanna shower with me?”

You thought about it for a second, but you knew the moment you step inside those showers, you were gonna relive the mind blowing sex the previous night. And there was no time nor energy for that.

“Not this time, babe. Still…need to recover” You winced as you sat on the edge of the bed, using the blanket to cover you.

“Alright. I won’t take long” She kissed your temple and disappeared into the other room.

Not even a few seconds later, a few of the contestants walked in using one hand to cover their eyes and the other to direct them to their luggages.

“Uh Yunah? Y/n?” Jihyun asked.

“It’s Y/n. Yunah is in the shower”

“Oh good morning. Are you decent? We need to change clothes”

“I’m somewhat decent. Using the blanket right now, is that okay?”

Jihyun removed her hand from her eyes. “That’s fine”

“Had a good time last night?” Jeongeun asked with a smirk.

“Shut up. Anyways, I think I’m gonna skip practice today” You yawned and laid down but Jeongeun ditched her slipper at you.

“As if they’ll let you. Put some damn clothes on and cover those hickies”

“Eh?” You snatch your phone and opened the camera app.

Your eyes widened at the millions of purple marks scattered from your neck down to your collarbones, and by peeking underneath the blanket that clothed you, there was so much more to count.

“NOH YUNAH!!!!” Your scream echoed through the entire building.

Fortunately, thanks to Jeongeun’s makeup skills, she was able to cover the hickies around your neck and it took your entire soul not to hiss from the pain you felt when Jeongeun was dabbing the makeup sponge.

Even the lightest tap was gonna make you throw hands.

However, something you weren’t able to hide was the soreness in your legs. The room erupted in laughter when you basically wobbled into the studio like a baby learning how to walk.

Yunah scooped you into her arms bridal style and carried you to the benches where she gently sat you down.

“Are you okay?” She whispered.

“Am I okay? Yunah I can’t fucking walk and it’s your fault! I need to learn how to resist my urges for sex sometimes” You pinched the bridge of your nose and sighed.

Yunah sat beside you. “Don’t lie, it was the best sex we’ve ever had. And how could you be so tired? I was doing all the work”

“Should I remind you that you’re packing a dick, Noh Yunah? That you were smashing that 8 inch into my womb for like 5 hours in different positions?” You said in an annoyed tone.

“Clearly” she giggled and poked at your thigh.

“Baby, I’m gonna go talk to Moa Unnie” Yunah spoke cutely.

“Okay. Talk to you later” you hummed and kissed her cheek before she skipped away.

Jiwoo took the chance to sit next to you as Chanelle, Minju and Funa joined. You felt a bit scared by the smirk they all shared.

“Oh God, what do you all want” You groaned.

“We want details of your time in heaven” Minju wiggled her eyebrows.

“Ew no! Are your sex lives with your own girlfriends so boring that you need to look into mine?”

“I don’t count because I’m single but we just wanna know how good it was. Especially with how you’re walking” Jiwoo winked.

Your face was burning hot. “What do you even wanna know?”

“Is she big?” Chanelle was first to ask, scooting closer so none of the minors could hear your conversation.

“What?”

“Is she packing a lot? I want to know if she’s bigger than me”

Funa slapped the back of her head. “So immature”

“It’s a friendly competition! So how big?”

You chewed on your lower lip nervously. “8 inches. Next question!”

Chanelle fist pumped the air. “YES I’m 0.5 inches bigger”

“Is she rough?” Funa asked.

The question didn’t suit her sweet and innocent voice. Freak in the sheets indeed.

“Not all the time. It’s just something we enjoy more than vanilla” you shrugged. “Next”

“Do you call her daddy?” Minju asked next without a second wasted.

Your face grew hot. “U-Um no…Ive never thought about that name actually. I always just call her Yunah-ya or baby”

“Ohhh definitely try it. You’d be surprised at the sudden motivation it gives”

You arched a brow at her. “There’s no way you call Jihyun ‘daddy’. Please be serious Minju”

“I don’t. Before we got together I hooked up with Chanelle a few times”

The said girl nodded. “Can confirm. We were watching a movie while the girls went out to shop and suddenly got super horny. Things escalated from there”

“And during that you called Chanelle ‘daddy’?”

“Just don’t fuck on the bench” Jiwoo snickered as she, and the other girls, walked away to interact with the other trainees.

Yunah sat down and placed you in her lap. “I know this will sound bad but a good proper stretch could fix those legs”

“I actually thought of a better solution” you whispered and cupped her face.

“And that is?”

“Cutting your dick off”

Yunah just stared at you with a pout. “Please don’t”

“I’m kidding, babe. Stop worrying so much. This isn’t the first time you’ve ruined my legs”

The taller girl shyly smiled and kissed your nose. “I love you”

“I love you too”

“Hey love birds, quit flirting and get over here!” Jiwoo screamed from the other side of the studio.

“Let’s go, baby. I’ll help you” Yunah kindly offered to help you stand before locking your hands together.

Chloe had came to Jihyun about concerns regarding Eli’s latest conquest and while it was clearly none of her business, she wasn’t going to completely ignore the woman. The best way to bring it up was by inviting Elijah over for dinner so the two of them could catch up. Having spent the past few weeks in Seoul, she was curious as to how he was doing anyway. “Here you go.” she dropped a pair of slippers for him where they stood at the door, allowing him to put them on before leading him further into the kitchen. “I bought Liv some stuff while I was in Korea! Even printed out polaroids we took while we were there for her to keep!” the smile on her face couldn’t be wiped off of her face, fingers running through her hair as she stepped into the kitchen with him and began pouring him a glass of wine.
