You thought that Rafayel loved you and he just had a strange way of showing it. He's always been a little cold to the people around him, flippant and dismissive but when it comes to you he warms up just a little bit. He's never been cruel to you but you always feel like he's holding back. Sometimes, he loses himself a little, hands holding onto you tightly as he kisses you hard, puffs of his breath brushing up against your lips.

At the very least you never doubted his loyalty. You knew that he wasn't seeing anybody outside of you and he treated you kindly, even if you couldn't see all of him. He was just reserved and private and you respected that - you'd never pressure him into saying or doing something that he wasn't comfortable with because you love him.

One day, you meet his new bodyguard. She's kind and polite and unwilling to put up with Rafayel's antics, something you commend her for. You never had any reason to doubt her intentions because she never gave you any just cause, warming up to her just as quickly as Rafayel did.

It doesn't take you long to realise that something's different about her. Rafayel doesn't do anything outwardly strange but the way he starts to look at her and almost boyish shyness you see in her presence warns you of the inevitable. You hope that it's just because she's someone new, that he's just trying to figure out how to act around her but when he asks you to come over to talk as soon as you can you know what's happening.

He barely looks at you as he tells you he's enjoyed his time with you but he doesn't love you the way you need him to. You don't even need to ask him to know that it's because of her and as you drive home you're so unbelievably angry. You wish that he did something worse, that he had an affair and things were escalating between the two of them to give you the ability to be angry at him but you can't. He was honest and fair with you, recognising his feelings and leaving you before they became something harmful to you.

The breakup is amicable at least and Rafayel texts you another apology in addition to a basket of gifts to you. You choose not to respond, letting the basket sit outside for days until finally it disappears, rotting in bed as you try to work on getting over him.

It's months until the next time you see him in town, walking with the bodyguard. All the hurt comes back and you have half a mind to storm over and cuss him out but when you see the look on his face you take pause. He looks happy for once, something soft and innocent that you could never draw out of him yourself. She looks at him just as happily, the two of them seeming to have some sort of understanding that you'd never been able to achieve with him.

All the hurt in your chest dissipates. You love Rafayel more than anything and still do - it'll take you some more time to get over him and as much as watching him like this stings you know that all you've ever wanted was for him to be happy. You slowly come to accept the fact Rafayel couldn't be this happy with you and you're glad that he's found her.

Rafayel still feels guilty because in his mind, he led you on. He thought he'd never find her again but now that he has the weight of what he did to you is lessened. However, he knows that if he were in your position it'd hurt him as well which is what leads him to inviting you to one of his shows as a show of good faith. The two of you don't even talk at that show but when you offer him a slight smile and wave he's glad to know the two of you have come to some sort of agreement, finally able to put to those worries of his to rest.

While most DR69 characters are just the alternatives we see in UDG69, I don't see that as relevant here if this is an AU. Also, I made some different choices just based on characters I like more (such as Cricket and Kokona). Another choice, for me personally as the swap for Mario or Luigi, would be Rosalina, but Peach and Daisy feel too fitting otherwise.

For DR96, I also kinda just chose my favourites from each media, with like the exception of Hourglass Dog because I don't know if any other Ena character really has much relevance other than being a one-off character (apart from Moony who's already in DR96). I almost chose Kim to pair with Saul too, however the prospect of Gus was too funny to pass up. Also Light isn't a character I like per say, but I mean he would work well in a killing game set-up lol

Do you have thoughts about the end of les légendaires? I was very disappointed with Shun-Day's arc

OK so in my reread I'm currently on volume 17, but I just finished up Shun-Day's arc so I figured I'd answer this now because YES many thoughts!

In general... I feel like Shun-Day's writing fails her a LOT. She's got so much going for her, and yet... uegh.

I'm not a big fan of Shun-Day and Gryf's relationship at all. Not in the least just because of the discrepancy in age (I'll ignore that for this post because I can't really get into that here without an entire The Poor Women in Les Légendaires section lmao), but I also just don't think it's very compelling. It really only stands to create a love triangle, make Gryf look like a dick, and use Shun-Day as a narrative prop.

I'm somewhat lukewarm on Gryf and Shimy's relationship as well, but in any case it's stupid how quickly she forgives him for all that bullshit. I think in a lot of ways the writing of their relationship just ends up severely weakening her character, which is disappointing. It's not impossible to have a character whose weak to their love interest and still have it be done well, but it doesn't hit that way for me.

Gryf's character also suffers due to all of it to me. I understand the 'pushing people away because of imminent death' trope, and I even like it sometimes, but using another character for it stops it from being false sanctimony and just makes it a douchey move.

However, that doesn't inherently make it a negative! You could still include that dynamic and write it well, with the characters growing because of it and becoming better, but I don't think that's really how it's done. Instead it just ends up being "Oh no, Shun-Day died! Oh well! It's ok because Gryf and Shimy ended up together!" with no real regard to the fact that That Really Fucking Sucks past comedic relief in "lol Gryf and Shimy are bickering again!"

Sidenote but I also think making Shun-Day Amy's daughter is just... a weird choice? It doesn't end up doing anything for the story or for their characters (or even like. Skroa's), and seems to just exist to provide a last minute plot twist.

Honestly as I'm writing this I'm starting to realize that I think maybe the Amour Mortel–– L'Éternité ne Dure Qu'un Temps arc might be my least favorite... I think its writing is reaaally weak in a lot of ways (girl hello Éternity doesn't end up doing shit?).

It's all worth it for Sheibah though.

Tilly is a big sister/middle regressor and her age range is 6 - 10

She's honestly one of the sweetest little's to be around, and everyone always says how adorable she is. And she's very helpful! Always toddling behind a caregiver and asking if they need help, or being with a younger regressor and helping do simple tasks for their caregiver, like make a bottle or play with their toys!

She adores Lenny and Charles the most, and Lenny is her (positive) influence if Arthur isn't. He's always so responsible around her, and their relationship is very big brother/younger sister vibes! He's always reading a book to her, she's always drawing with him

Even with all this positivity, she's still much very independent! Always totting about and always whining if she gets babied too much. Stomping her feet and being like "i'm a big girl! can do t'ings by mahself! don' need no stupid peoples 'round to look afta me! >:[" and just stomps off to the ladies to whine to them about all this. Although she loves all the attention, she doesn't like being babied, and she shows just how much of a big girl she is! (girlboss >:D)

Being around the gang from a very young age has gotten some influences out of her. Arthur and Mrs Grimshaw especially. Some of her more fisty, independent side comes from these two, mostly Mrs Grimshaw, if she had to pick one. But that doesn't mean she has her own thing going on too!

She looks up to Arthur a lot, mostly because he was there from the start of her joining the gang and such, and treats him like an older brother. John is a bit different, but still the same in some sense. She adores Arthur, honestly, and has always enjoyed his company, big or small. She even started to draw a bit like him too! But she's taken more to painting than actual drawing, but it doesn't mean she doesn't keep a sketchbook around!

She loves to do hair! Either it be the ladies or Charles, she's just wanting to style! She tries to keep true to what modern hair styles are in the 20th century and such, but also takes from her own independence too! Braids and buns and afros too! Or she just usually likes the silky feeling of hair/facial features LAMO

Being well-behaved doesn't mean she's cheeky. She loves to be a little troublemaker at times, but not enough to harm anyone. Taking Arthur's hat, stealing a few fresh baked cookies, scaring Dutch awake. Simple, but funny. You can blame Lenny for all of this, but he's worse on his own. Though not as bad as Sean or Micah

She loves to be on horses! Or just look after them in general. Going over to where the horses are kept at camp and stroking them, talking to them and feeding them sugar cubes she (probably stole from Arthur) got from somewhere. She has a sweet connection with horses, and always will have! And she loves going out on horseback rides with Uncle Arthur!
