monthly wrap-up :: june 2023

Welcome to the June 2023 wrap up! I didn't expect that I would be reading so much for other characters but putting this list together made me realize I may have been whoring on the side for some other characters (potentially actors too because I can't lie those pics of Seb at the Loewe event did things to me full stop--).

The year's halfway through and I honestly can't believe how this year feels like it's flying by but also not moving fast enough because honestly I swear on my life I was just working on the 14 Days project a few weeks ago but also apparently it over four months ago?? Nothing makes sense 🥴

for a long time my personal brand was the friend that loved glitter vfx and makeup in general, ofc i would go all out and leave trails of glitter everywhere lmao also i like having a url that is recognizable but not fandom affiliated

yes lmao so many but the active ones are only @ellavaday for rpdr stuff, @ccantaloup for cute animal videos food and reminders to be kind to yourself (it is where a lot of... not particularly good stuff used to be documented and instead of deleting it i decided to rebrand it and keep it as a reminder to myself) and @ateneawrites for fic writing (this one's a baby and it's brand new bc i haven't written for fun in a good 6 years, i'm rusty but definitely having fun at least)

I got a bunch of new followers (hello 💖) bc of Inktober, and I came across this tag game today (on @vacationgerry 's blog!) so I figured I'd answer these questions as a sort of introduction :))

1. Why did you choose your url?

My name is Danika and a 4 year old English girl once, 15+ years ago, called me Danicat. I loved that so much that it's been my username most places since. It used to be danicat91 bc it wasn't available without numbers, but I hated the numbers so I changed it to the German version Danikatze a few years ago. (it's daanikatze on twitter and ig)

2. Any side blogs?

@danifanatic where I rb stuff is the only active one. I have another where I collect art refs/advice and only to never look at it anymore. And another one where I posted original art but that one's dead too (I don't make enough original art and I prefer posting it here anyway)

3. How long have you been on tumblr?

Since 2012 I think

5. Why did you start your blog in the first place?

.. bc I wanted to post nsfw stuff and I heard this is where I could do it hehe. I deleted most of it since then. I had a nsfw sideblog for a bit, but I deleted that too a few years ago bc it was dying anyway and then the porn ban happened and I got sick of it.

6. Why did you choose your icon/pfp?

I love (and in some ways relate to) Shino and he's wearing one of my favourite hoodies in that one. Just really pleased with that drawing overall!

I thought it was cute and Wai just makes me happy :) (She's kinda my air bison oc? My best friend gave me an Appa plushie and it looked nothing like him, and so Wai was born ^^)

My dog dad Kakashi comic.. Almost 30k notes now

Around 15 I think? I've talked to maybe 5 or 6 of them hahah

A few thousand, but I accumulated them so slowly that I feel like half of them must've left tumblr by now hahah.

In hindsight I guess the dog dad Kakashi comic is pretty much a shitpost ^^;

Err about 15-30 min every morning and then compulsively checking the rest of the day

Once, wwwaay in the beginning.. I followed someone who kept bullying one of their friends. I told them said friend didn't seem to think it was funny at all, and they told me to mind my own business, after which I unfollowed them. I've learned to just unfollow people when their blog makes me anxious in whatever way (if I can't blacklist the stuff that makes me uncomfortable)

Have I finished my reorganization? *shifty eyes* No, but! See... *shuffles feet* I got distracted by the shiny dopamine and... well... I’m still working on it. 😝 Have some more orb WIP!

I'm working on how to display it... and this is still definitely a rough/1st draft, though the only one that will weigh this much (2.52 lb. / 1.14 kg)... and yeah, I've got plans for at least one more (I want to be able to make a mold of it so I can also make bookends) and already have an aluminum foil core ready.

I know "they” say “the DA fandom is dying” because it’s been so long since the last game was released but... y’all... Y’all are putting out so much great fanart and fanfic and screenshots and fanvids and the volume is simply astounding.

I read fast... I read A LOT... and I can’t keep up with just the Solasmancing side of the fandom.

I think “they” are full of shit.

On Commenting

I used to be one of those readers who just left Kudos on fics and very, VERY rarely commented.

Then, because of some of the posts I’ve seen here (and on Twitter), I started trying to at least leave a heart, or other, emoji comment on chapter updates for fics I subscribe to; sometimes using gifs, occasionally leaving longer comments, and commenting on one-shots.

I'm still mostly at that point but, thinking about those posts more, I am starting to try to leave comments on multi-chapter fics as I go (struggling, but trying); even if some of the chapter comments I leave are “just heart emojis,” when my spoons are low or I have no words (I’m not usually good with words). The feedback from writers has been, honestly, both heartwarming & heartbreaking.

Fanfic writers, of every caliber, are sharing a gift with us every time they post. And they are so appreciative of, what feels to me like, tiny crumbs of feedback. It blows my mind a little.

I mean, long comments filled with “I loved x” or “that phrasing there was so amazing” or “so and so tied back to y chapters and xyz and I can’t believe...” have got to be even better to receive, so if you can do that... please do.

But I’ve seen, firsthand, that even tiny, consistent, comments can make a big impact on someone’s day.

So toss a heart to your writers.

If you’re reading on your phone/tablet, emojis are on your keyboard. If you’re on a PC, you can insert a ♥ heart by holding down the Alt button and the 3 on the NumPad, on a Mac it’s Option and 2661. Or you can keep a tab open to Emojipedia and their thousands of emojis.

1. Why did you choose your url? I don't really remember now lol, haven't changed it since I first made the account. Not sure what came into my mind then.

2. Any side blogs? Yupp had one, have one but I don't really use it these days

god way too long lol idk exactly bc my old blog was tragically deleted but i think i joined the summer before i started college so like… ten?? years??? disgusting???

my oldest and darlingest internet friend @agecfmiracles made me lol and i’m very glad she did, no ragrets

bc dick grayson is my deepest and most enduring fictional love 💗 honestly if i do end up changing my url i’ll probably end up changing it to something dg-related for that very reason, lol. oh and also chris samnee is one of my favorite comic book artists, and i particularly love the way he draws dick/robin! i just love his spunky youthful energy! so that is another contributing factor.

7. Why did you choose your header?

my life has luckily improved somewhat since i made my current header my header but at the time i was Really Goin Through It and i find that little comic to be a perfect encapsulation of what it’s like to have unmedicated high-functioning depression 🙃

I adore the cdrama Legend of Fei and Yang Jin is one of my fave characters in it 💕 Cloud Ravine is where Yang Jin is from; it’s got a pretty sound to it, too, and it felt like a perfect simple-yet-beautiful new url to go with after finally taking the leap to change my brand url theleavesoflorien 🥺
