Hey Sal! I was wondering if you'd mind sharing your opinion on non-Muslims using phrases like "Inshallah" and "Alhamdulillah"?

For context, I'm white and ex-Catholic. One of my best friends growing up was Muslim — she and her family immigrated to my town as refugees from Afghanistan in the early 00s. They always encouraged me to learn and participate in their family gatherings, and "Inshallah" and "Alhamdulillah" became a normal part of my own lexicon. It cemented further during college, as I had classes on Middle East history where my professor started each class with call and response salaams, and encouraged us to learn and use basic Arabic together in class. So, I tend to use these phrases in day to day conversations the way I would other non English phrases, such as "c'est la vie" or "un poco".

However, I realized that while salaams may be welcomed for non-Muslims to use, phrases like "Inshallah" and "Alhamdulillah" may feel inappropriate or appropriative coming from myself with no other context. Would it be better for non-Muslims like myself to refrain from using phrases like these? Or am I overthinking this?

Hi! First ever post on this blog...wow I really am awkward! I really have no idea how to start this... Anyway, here we go; I wrote a poem of sorts. It's not necessarily super deep. It surrounds the idea of a chessboard being used as a symbol of war, and how the higher figures in society have to fall in order for the sacrifices of the smaller folk to be even significant...dark, I know. It really is just my first ever warm up work, and is actually based loosely on something my DM said during a D&D session as one of the main antagonists. I really liked it and found the sentiment quite powerful. If you'd like to use this or reblog, feel free! :)

i had an idea once of an offical book about John convincing Mycroft to help solve mysteries after Sherlock "died" (Mycroft knows he's alive and well) until mysterious signs show up about Sherlock possibly being in danger. So they go to solve it

a fun mystery novel with added angst, miscomunication, family drama and Moriarty (because who doesn't want some evil professor in their book?).

Another gala. Kenobi wondered why the council always happened to choose him for such missions. It became almost a routine for him to attend some sort of a party once in a while.

That day started ordinary, parties on Naboo were quite predictable and to be honest with himself, Obi-wan was bored. His smile was hiding behind his champagne more frequently as the ball was progressing. Obviously, he had to be sober and prepared for all sorts of problems, but one glass wouldn't be an obstacle especially when he was given one by some senator of (some planet). However since that time on, he felt that somebody was observing him carefully and because of this he had goosebumps creeping on his arms.

There was also disturbance in the force. Kenobi suspected that some sith was nearby, waiting for the right moment to strike. It was unnerving, but he had a feeling nothing will happen so publicly.

He was just chatting with Padmé and Torgy (who btw was super clingy today) when he noticed angry, yellow eyes looking straight at him. He knew the person that was behind them.

"Maul." Kenobi whispered. Said man walked past few people and joined them in almost friendly demanor. He was eyeing Torgy and his distance between jedi and senator's shoulders which was almost nonexistent.

"Well, well, well, look what aiwha dragged! Isn't it a marvelous jedi master Obi-wan Kenobi?"
