[txt] Meet me at the Sky-Strewn Isles.
「✧」 It's the sole message Aurelius writes Klaus on his birthday, and the only words he needs to say—there's no doubt that the seraphim will come, after all.
Still, it takes a while for Klaus to actually track him down, since Aurelius is not only above ground but above the clouds as well, just enough to catch the last glimpse of sunlight painting the fluffy white forms a soft rosy pink. He senses Klaus long before he sees him, and smiles at the seraphim that flies up in a puff of cumulus to appear only a feet away.
"Aurelius," Klaus begins, but his companion presses a finger to his lips with a quiet hush.
"Shh. You're just in time." Calmly, the blond turned the brunette by the shoulders to face the sunset. "Will you look there for me?"
And as Klaus watches, the sun itself seems to glow like a radiant jewel, dyeing the carpet of clouds at their feet a pure gold. Something glimmers in the sky as well; looking up, he sees tiny motes of glittering light—droplets of water reflecting the sun, falling upon him as a golden shower. A voice tickles by his ear; it's Aurelius narrating a story, warm hands still resting on his shoulders.
"When I was born, they say that all of Heaven was illuminated by my grace. I was to be the herald of a new era of angels...inheritor of their glorious Light."
He waved at the air; the motes of light condensed into a single mass and formed a shimmering, splendid crown.
"But I have little interest in such things. Rather, it was your birth that gave my existence meaning."
Beckoning at the illusory crown, he had it float to their side and rest on Klaus' head instead—almost weightless and comfortably cool. There was no need to remind Klaus of how cursed his own childhood had been, or how the world grew prejudiced against him simply because of the color of his eyes.
"All the blessings I had at my birth, I crown upon you this day. They are neither jewels nor fame nor power, but they are my promise to you—that you and no other are the one I see as my equal from our world."
He cannot see Klaus' expression from here, but the sight of the crown on his head is good enough. It makes him his at any rate—at least in Aurelius' eyes.
"You rose above your circumstances, and higher will you fly still—" he pauses abruptly, gauging their respective heights in realization. "—it seems my words are late. You've grown taller already."
Laughing softly, he runs almost-affectionate fingers through Klaus' hair.
"Happy Birthday, Anghelescu."
"In the holy tongue, blessed art thou among Angels, and blessed be thy days among Man."

"hey, yo... if i make this shot... you gotta go out with me, alright?"
mark smiles at you brighter than any star in the sky as he continues to bounce the basketball. it's just the two of you now--the rest of your friends have gone their separate ways. it feels like nights always end with just you and mark nowadays. not that you're complaining: you adore the guy. you just smile at first, knowing that you'd say yes regardless of this silly deal (and the twinkle in mark's eyes tells you that he knows this, too: he just needs to show off).
"alright," you say, hands tucked into your hoodie pocket. "go for it."
he swells a little with pride before he takes the shot... and immediately misses. his smile falls into genuine, unabashed shock as he turns to you. you're already cackling, turning to run after the ball before it can get too far away.
"yo, i practiced! i literally practiced and got it--the guys can tell you! i'm good at this, i swear--"
you calm down, smiling at him as you hold the ball in your hands. "okay. so if i make this... you gotta go on a date with me."
mark smiles wide, so cutely flustered but he nods. "alright. bet."
you line up the shot, taking a deep breath. after a moment, you throw the ball through the air, watching as it just barely bounces off the rim. it sends mark into endless cackles, and you immediately rush toward him, burying your face in his jacket as you laugh.
"oh my god," he gasps out between cackles, arms wrapping around you. "i wish i got that on camera." he squeezes you tighter. "alrightalrightalright," he says too many times, blending together as he draws back from you just enough to see your face. "c'mon. i'll buy food."
(donghyuck later reports to the group chat that both of you are indeed idiots, having heard the story from mark... but at least you're idiots together now.)
