Yay, my first ever ask to someone!

Because I know you love him as much as I do, I'm sure you'll probably won't even have to think very long about the answers: Of course, I'm choosing Duke for the character ask game :D I'd be very much interested in 4, 9, 10, 11, 21, 22, 24 – but of course, choose wichever ones you like or make it everything <3 And for the freebie question a little headcanon: What would be a typical phrase you imagine him saying all the time?

OMG Honored to be your first! <3 <3 <3 And you're right, I always love talking about Duke. Sincerely shocked how little attention he gets overall. And as predicted, I answered way more questions than you asked lol. Enjoy!

3. Least favorite canon thing about this character?

The cheerleaders. I just, oh boy, wow. Please tell me those girls put those uniforms on themselves and he didn't ask them to. That would be so cringe. >.<

4. If you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?

So, his English VA, Marc Thompson, does the audiobooks for the Star Wars "Fate of the Jedi" book series that my husband and I are listening to, so I find myself frequently picturing Duke in Star Wars outfits during my Duke Devlin Star Wars Storytime. XD

5. What's the first song that comes to mind when you think about them?

Cherry Pie by Warrant, cause I imagine him jamming out to it in his classic car. See also Question 12.

7. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?

Fandom doesn't do enough with him for me to have an answer to this question, but I have seen people giving him new outfits, which I adore. Yes, dress this boy up, he loves it!

8. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?

Yes, I appreciate the YGOTAS theme song jokes as much as the next dude, but if you try to find Duke scenes on Youtube, that's all you can find. :(

9. Could you be roommates with this character?

Absolutely. I headcanon that he's really tidy with his personal space, and we could take turns making dinner (thank you Season Four for telling us that he's a good cook).

10. Could you be best friends with this character?

Quite possibly, yeah. I have some creative indie side projects of my own, and I feel like he'd have good feedback if I needed another set of eyes on some new character designs or plot-points. I will also be hitting him up for haircare tips all the time lol.

11. Would you date this character?

If I weren't married and I had a chance, absolutely yes. Don't know if it would work out long-term, but it would be fun.

12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?

I headcanon that he's a big Adam Lambert fan and sings his music in the shower (and everywhere else he sings). Try listening to the Adam Lambert cover of Holding Out For A Hero and try telling me it doesn't have Duke-like levels of drama and flare, I dare you. Other AL songs I think he'd specifically jam to are Fever, Strut, The Light, and Pop That Lock. I don't always have headcanons for a character's taste in music, but I just get really strong vibes on what he's into. I also think he'd listen to a lot of classic rock.

Another few songs that will go on my Duke playlist when I get around to making it: You Put A Spell On Me and Dangerous Hands both by Austin Giorgio, Fangs by Neoni, 100 degrees by Kenzie, basically everything by Steven Rodriguez (there's not a lot, but it's all so sexy), and Play With Fire by Sam Tinnesz ft. Yacht Money.

15. What's your favorite ship for this character? (Doesn't matter if it's canon or not.)

I'm not going to pick just one, I can't, but I'll give you my top ships: Mastershipping (Kaiba), Minorshipping (Ryou), Snareshipping (Joey). Poly ships: Mumbleshipping (Kaiba + Ryou), Rollshipping (Joey + Ryou), and Petshipping (Kaiba + Joey). Okay, that's just... all my Duke ships. XD But they're all so good!

I'm intrigued by the idea of Ishizu x Duke, which doesn't have a name. I'm not sure they really know what to make of each other, but I think that keeps them intrigued with each other. I think a first date with them, or even just a flirting scene, could be real fun. She's serious and scholarly, he's fun and free-spirited. They could balance each other.

16. What's your least favorite ship for this character?

Him and Tristan, Chaseshipping I think. I think they could be friends just fine, I just don't see the chemistry there.

20. Which other character is the ideal best friend for this character, the amount of screentime they share doesn't matter?

I'm leaving out ship characters for the sake of this question.

I actually think he and Mai could be really good pals, they'd go shopping and talk about bfs/gfs and have a good time. They also both own convertibles, so you know they have some of the same tastes.

21. If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character? What's something you don't like?

One thing that's always fun for me is Duke's flirting. Can't say I'm a master of writing flirtation, but I do my best to make Duke look like a master of it, because he is. I do generally just love writing him so much, though. He's one of the least angsty characters that I write, so he always puts me in a happier headspace.

In my fic Rock Bottom, he's a solid friend to Seto without being too nosy, which Seto appreciates so much. They understand each other on an intellectual level, but even after Seto's like "no thanks" to a relationship, Duke makes it clear that he's always free to change his mind in a no-pressure way. He's supportive but not nosy. I've got a chapter coming up (spoilers) in RB Season Three where Seto just needs somewhere to chill and lay low, hide from reality, and Duke's like, "I won't say a word to anyone that you're here, it's fine, no explanation needed, just take a deep breath pal." Doesn't ask what's going on, just takes him in for the night. (Also negotiates him into cuddles, but that's separate lol.)

He's just there for people, doesn't need answers (unless things are bad enough that some kind of involvement is just necessary).

22. If you're a fic reader, what's something you like in fics when it comes to this character? Something you don't like?

I like when people fill out the details of him balancing his responsibilities between his game shop and managing DDM, or flesh out his relationship with Pegasus even if it's not central to the story. There's just so much more to this boy that we don't get to see, and that stuff just feels like such a necessary backdrop to the rest of his life.

23. Favorite picture(s) of this character?

DSOD did this boy right. He's just so pretty. :')

But also, look at this boy pretending to read while he eavesdrops. And he set up that hammock so dang high off the ground? Looking down on everybody? No, boy has the high ground, tactical advantage. I love him.

And wait, what's that? The most Mastershipping moment in the entire anime, you say? Show me!

Oh. Oh dear. ;P But, for so many reasons, I'll genuinely never get over this scene.

24. What other character from another fandom of yours that reminds you of them?

I'm gonna try to stick to canon behaviors and traits for this and not let headcanons influence it too much.

ZEN/Hyun Ryu from Mystic Messenger has the same "I'm pretty and I know it" vibe as Duke and shares the casual-but-constant flirting behavior (also ponytail bros). This is a fun comparison for me because their hair and eye colors are also exact opposites.

From Nanbaka, I'd have to go with Uno, who can be abrasive at times with his enemies/rivals, doesn't let his friends fight alone, and shares the "ladies love me, I know I'm pretty, look at how well I take care of my luscious long hair" confident attitude. Also like Duke, there's a good few times where a friend is doing something/rash or unwise, and he tries to talk reason to them. Also obsessed with games, so they have that hobby in common. He also compulsively flirts with every woman in the vicinity (except the warden, because she's terrifying and he knows better). Real smooth operator, even with the dudes.

From UtaPri, I'd have to go with Ren Jinguji. Look, they're even hammock bros! Exceptionally confident, but also a bit mysterious. Flirty with the ladies, not that he even needs to try that hard. Actually pretty laid back and down to earth most of the time.

He also just moves the way I imagine Duke moving, with that fluid grace of a man's who's totally comfortable in his own skin. Just look at him!!!! LOOK AT THE HIP! *chefs kiss*

Another thing all these boys have in common is a strong fashion sense in addition to a strong sense of showmanship (ZEN as an actor and Ren as an idol, this is obvious, but Uno just can't help showing off lol), two great traits that Duke also has.

26. FREEBIE QUESTION!!

Honestly, I can imagine him using "yo" a lot, not exactly a phrase, but a slang term. If anyone tells him something like "that's not cool anymore" he just responds with "it is when I say it ;)"

If we're leaning into my headcanons of him as a good cook, maybe he sometimes uses "now we're cooking with gas!" He probably has to explain this to Tristan and/or Joey, which launches him into the discussion of gas vs electric stoves. He's a strong believer in gas stoves being superior. I wouldn't say he's a snob when it comes to cooking, but there's certain things in the kitchen that he has a strong opinion on.

I really want to write a scene where Jaden is with his parents, in Croatia on vacation, and gets a phonecall from his buddies(Takes place in Season 4 btw) and hears that Celina lost a duel.

So how does he react? Like Seto in that one YGOTAS scene and where he goes 'Yugi lost a card game?!' and he says lines like "I guess every time you told me that you were chilling with your friends, you were dueling someone else, huh?!" And my personal fave "Was his deck better mine?!"

After the call Ends with him saying that whenever he took damage from their duels that he was faking it, Celina crying and Chazz goes like, "Damn"

Hi! I am (relatively? Subjectively?? Objectively???? All three?!?!?) new to Yu-Gi-Oh. I have seen it as a kid through YouTube amvs because I never really knew where to watch them. The only clear memory I have was watching Pyramid of Light but I heard people say it's not that good so I personally think it doesn't count 😅

Now that I am grown , I have readied myself to watch the original series and hyperfixate on it for a long while XD.

I am aware of the story, aware of the ships, and played the games (the first DS game I think, and currently enjoying Master Duel)

I know I shouldn't really "ship at first sight" but your artworks are one of the first to make me pay attention to Rivalshipping and be inspired to make a fanfic about them as I am a sucker for rivals-to-lovers, red and blues and the like .

This became long and winded so I just wanna ask, at what point/s be it anime, manga, movie/s, or subtext made you go:

"OMG, that makes so much sense. This! This is the essence of Rivalshipping!"

I also actually only watched some of the DM anime in our local TV when I was a kid (it only airs the first season / Duelist Kingdom and I don't really have access to get to know anything else from the franchise), played the card game with my brother. I remember liking Yamiyugi character more than anything else 😂 and love the monsters. But I haven't really immersed myself in it.

Years later I found out about Yamiyugi/Atem being Dead in the end and IT HURTS ME <\3 it was through a internet search (I didn't have access to internet back then) after I randomly ran into a local parody video of Yugioh (a team dubbed the YGOTAS in our local indigenous language and it was HILARIOUS it got me thinking "oh WOW been a while since I get this much laugh, I wonder how Yugioh is nowadays??")

After the initial Heartbreak of Losing Yamiyu, I also stumbled on the YGO manga- it was the first time that I knew YGO used to have more Horror elements, it was Really Fun!! I read a bit of the manga and I Really Like Yugi!!! That's the time I started to Understand the story, and began appreciating the characters more (other than Yamiyu haha) and then all my Attention just shifted to Yugi, and I Really LOVE Him, he's my babie

And then I stumbled on DSOD, and I thought "YGO got a Movie?? Well let's check it out, I wanna see More of Yugi" and then the Yugi in question comes out and he's SO DIFFERENT from the babie I used to know??? 😂😂 he's all Mature and stuff!! But he's SO SAD and that Sadness kinda pulls me in-

When Kaiba and Yugi starts their Duel I think THAT's when I got "oh yes: Them" because I think it was the first time I ever see a Kaiba vs YUGI not Yamiyu Duel and it was an Emotional experience, beside the Duel having Emotional backstory behind it too, it was just a whipslash of Emotion for me 😂😂😂

It was also when I started Noticing Kaiba's appeal as a character too. They are SO SAD in the DSOD movie that it draws me in <3

After the whiplash of Emotion from DSOD, I started to read the manga and watch the anime more carefully and started Noticing details- every little bits of interaction between Yugi & Kaiba, even the ones that only happens offscreen (like how Yugi mentions he visits Kaiba in the hospital a lot of times) makes it feel like everything that happens in DSOD really makes more sense, and it feels like it's Meant to happen, their story builds up to DSOD, and I really like that- they got Growth in their story, I think. I guess I lean more on the manga in story-line that makes me get interested in Them <3 but DSOD just seals the Deal 😂

Also after that I learned of that "4 years later" insta post by KT and it shows Kaiba and Yugi together Making Games, AND GOD IT WAS- IT TRULY SEALED THE DEAL... Everything Makes Sense, they're sooo build to be Together for me!!! 🥺🥺🥺

And welp now I'm here 😂

I'm Very Happy you got to enjoy the ship through my drawings <3 but my intrepertation of them might not be the same as anyone else (and I think my content are mostly ooc too) so I hope you can see the original series again and enjoy it as you like 💙💜 have fun!!

the marik lets plays take place after season 2 when marik loses his body & bakura dies, as they're both just. sharing a space in the shadow realm. also slenderman shows up to the shadow realm sometimes. maybe

the kaiba fnaf 2 lets plays are canon during season 4 because maximillion pegasus is there. thats all i got to say here

i’m gonna do yami bakura just because

How I feel about this character: he’s overly dramatic, very ~evil~, has an in-depth 12-step plan for revenge on the pharaoh, and just is generally kind of a petty asshole for 4 out of 5 seasons, and i love him for that. he brings the kind of goofy ~evil~ energy to the show that makes it fun to watch!

All the people I ship romantically with this character: ok this is mostly because of ygotas (which i’ve only seen parts of) but him and marik...the drama, the flirtation, the general ~evilness~, it’s a good dynamic folks. plus i’m a sucker for one half of the pairing being totally exasperated by the ridiculousness of the other half, which bakura/marik has in spades.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: huh. i’m not sure how to answer this one? i mean, in terms of character dynamics i enjoy, i guess i like the adversarial relationship he has with atem/yami? i mean the bakura vs yami duel in duelist kingdom is one of my favorite duels of the whole show, partially because i like the idea of becoming a ygo card, but also because of the antagonistic banter those two have. same with the monster world scenes of season 0 and the manga, same kind of back-and-forth. it’s good shit

My unpopular opinion about this character: ok i don’t think this is necessarily unpopular, but because he was featured so prominently, ryou got sidelined in the anime, and i wish we had seen more of him :( like come on bakura quit hogging the spotlight i want to see my sweet boy

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: see i haven’t fully finished the show yet so it’s hard to say, but i wish they had focused more on the rpg theme that he had in the manga to start out with? i know they were going fully in on duel monsters as the theme of the show, but the monster world segments of the manga/season 0 were so fun!! i think they eventually return to it in season 5, if i’m not mistaken, but i just wish he got to be an evil dm more. and also duke devlin stole his dice theme >:(

You know my posts about Seto Kaiba and his puppy-killing smile? Well, you know who else has a running gag we can do an over-thought mathematical analysis on? Duke Devlin. Specifically, there are instances where his theme music doesn’t play. I’m keeping a count of those times. These are mostly when he only says a single word, or when other music is playing. Like the Kaiba posts, I will do a separate post when all of Season 5 is released.

Episode 22: “My game uses dice.” (Fail count: 1) One of the few instances when he speaks a whole sentence, there’s no other music playing, yet the music doesn’t play. Even his theme music thought his argument over how Dungeon Dice Monsters was nothing like Duel Monsters was lame (in all seriousness, though, the gameplay is completely different. If you want an idea of how it plays, look up “Dungeon Dice Monsters GBA”. There should be some gameplay footage).

Episode 22: “I visited [Pegasus] (music stops) before the Duelist Kingdom tournament to demonstrate my game. He was totally awesome! It was like he had played Dungeon Dice Monsters his whole life! [...] Dungeon Dice Monsters was set to take the world by storm! But then you defeated Pegasus (music resumes) in a children’s card game!” (Fail count: 2) Holy crud, almost a whole rant without the music! Maybe the flashback was to before he got his theme music...

Episode 40: “Maybe.” (Fail count: 3) Not explaining the context. If you really want context, look up “YGOTAS Episode 40” on YouTube and watch the video. I’m not sure exactly how appropriate for Tumblr the context would be.

Episode 41: “No! No! Don't let go, dude! Oh God! Oh Jesus Christ! Oh, I'll never sleep with another woman again! Oh God, oh Jesus!” (Fail count: 4) Another whole rant where his theme music doesn’t play. Maybe it can’t play when he’s talking at the same time as another person? Then again, there was also other music playing...

Episode 43: “Damn!” (Fail count: 5) Well, this confirms that no, Duke’s theme music cannot play if he speaks at the same time as another person. It also happens a second time. He said the same thing. No, I am not screenshotting it! Why? The shot also had Tristan... with breasts! GOD, the thought of it is disturbing! Eugh... (Fail count: 6)

Episode 48: “Time’s running out, dude! I’m losing my grip! I can feel my mojo starting to fade! [...] Why would an axe help? [..] That’s a body spray, you dork! [..] I can... barely hear my theme music...” (Fail count: 6.5) I’m counting this as half a fail. His theme music is playing, yes, but it’s distorted.

Episode 48: “So, where did all the girls go?” (Fail count: 7)

Episode 50: “...Why?” (Fail count: 8) In this scene, Tristan had said “I’m gonna touch your boobs!” ...Despite Duke lacking those. I hope.

Episode 51: “Serenity, no!” This happens twice.(Fail count: 10)

Episode 51: “Ah.” (Fail count: 11) He says this in disappointment when Tristan sacrificed himself to save his life, but then turns around and claims he did it for Serenity.

Riboruba (Final Fantasy VIII and Kingdom Hearts)- She is the personification of Squall’s/Leon’s Gunblade! Fun Fact: Riboruba is the Japanese pronunciation of Revolver, to which that is the style of Gunblade Squall has.

AU Abridged Yami Bakura (YGOTAS and Kingdom Hearts)- Yes... a parody character, which is it’s on AU in a way, in an AU where he is a keyblade wielder................................ tada! AU Nylocke (TOME) I’m putting this here because this is the Nylocke that is apart of the Omega Timeline. Where Nylocke had a twin brother (Nye is Colin-based on tta Nai’s name, and Martin- because Martin Billaney), who died. He is also the world’s best hacker, even better than the main villain of the blog, which was revealed once, but never by name. URL with Omega.

Hao Asakura- This was semi-based on the manga and the anime mixing. the story the blog was based off of is actually still on Fanfiction.Net i named Angel of the Devil (https://www.fanfiction.net/s/6203556/1/Angel-of-the-Devil) Feel free to read it! There are 9 chapters!

Glitchy Red (Pokemon Creepy Pasta)- He was based off of many different piecemeal creepy pastas (Lost Silver, Pokemon Black, Strangled Red, Glitchy Red, small stories about the candle instead of flash, but used in a house it would burn it down, and the rope inside would make you hang yourself). This blog got me into KORN.

Xirra (TTA)- She is a re-purposed character with a whole new look to fit into TOME, and I used her on Remorse for Mistakes

Demon Eyes Kyo (Demon Eyes Kyo)- I read this manga in the 6th grade... it is fucking bloody and gory, so don’t look it up if you are weak stomached. I used him as the Guardian Spirit of Hao on his blog instead of the Fire Spirit.

Beelzemon (Digimon)- I had him on a blog I have yet to mention, but you’ll see why I haven’t yet, that blog is in a category all of its own~

Keldeo (Pokemon) He made a brief appearance on Kirb/Zetto blog... Chris named him Vic........ because voiced by Vic......

Luka (TOME)- She is the little sister of Xirra. A different kind of virus, hers is a contact epidemic virus that spreads through touch. She has her hands covered at all times, and is very shy, but is almost second to none in hand to hand combat, being at least 30 time stronger than her just 4 foot stature would lead you to believe. she is also a lolita that wears extremely tall boots, and yet she is still very short... like just under 5 foot short. She also dates a giant dragon... and she sounds like Hinata from Naruto... she is an actual baby that is months old

1. what’s your favourite song(s) to sing/hum?

pretty much any song from any musical I’ve seen....Phantom of the Opera tunes get stuck in my head quite a lot especially “All I Ask of You”

2. what’s your favourite flower/tree/plant?

I love Baby’s Breath, Cypress trees, and Rosemary

3. favourite colours?

blues, greens, and blue-greens

4. what do you always doodle?

I doodle eyes more than anything else, no face....just eyes...probably a habit from when i used to draw in anime style and i was trying to figure the eye proportions out ^^”

5. how do you take your coffee/tea?

my coffee needs to be 90% sugar but i take my tea with just a little bit of honey if any sweetener at all

6. favourite candle scent?

EVERGREEN

8. what perfume do you wear?

i have so many perfumes....bath and body works sales are my weakness...most of my perfumes are sweet and floral scented but in the fall and winter i use Red by b&bw

9. what’s your go-to dance move when you’re alone?

......is “white” a dance move because.....

i’m usually getting ready to go somewhere if i’m dancing around my house so my dance move is pretty much to do my make up and hair while singing dramatically to my reflection? Sometimes I’ll add a runway walk down the hall if i have to go to my room to get my phone or something lol

11. favourite self care routine(s)?

aromatherapy epsom salt bath with bubbles, face mask, candles burning, lights out, sometimes some relaxing meditation music playing. putting on my pjs, brushing my teeth, and then getting into my bed with clean sheets and a heat pad and listening to The Adventure Zone podcast until I fall asleep. Or that’s what i do when i really need a self care day.

All of the colors? I love eye colors they’re all beautiful!!

17. what does your happy place look like?

i envision it as this one moment i experienced a while back. My friend has a little stream/creek near her house so we hiked through the woods in the early spring to go see what kind of wildlife we could find. In the middle of that stream there’s a flat rock that sticks out of the water, big enough for you to lie down on it. So I hopped over to that rock and just lay there looking up at the leaves for a while and let my hand touch the surface of the cool water running by. I don’t know it was the most tranquil I've ever felt so i go back to that moment as my happy place.

18. favourite breed of dog?

I like mutts because that’s all I’ve ever had myself. But Aussies are beautiful, I really want an Ovcharka, and honestly I’m fond of Pitbulls (if they are properly trained!!)

19. do you ever want to be married? if so, what colours would you pick for your wedding?

I don’t know, that’s so much money and I get carried away so easily....but colors would probably be white, blue, and green....but light variations of blue and green...maybe light mint green?
