Before I even start this post, let me get the legal shit out of the way.I am not a doctor. IM has been approved for use in humans, although it's more widely known as an parasitic medication for livestock.IM, sold under the brand name Stromectol among others, is a medication that is used to treat parasite infestations. In humans, this includes head lice, scabies, river blindness (onchocerciasis), strongyloidiasis, trichuriasis, ascariasis, and lymphatic filariasis. In veterinary medicine, it is used to prevent and treat heartworm and acariasis, among other indications. It can be taken by mouth or applied to the skin for external infestations.MORE Question: If it's already been proven safe for human use, why isn't there full speed ahead testing being done to see if it works for covid?Answer: Big Pharma. IM has been off patent for years and is dirt cheap. If it's found out to be effective for covid, guess who's profits are going to nosedive in that vaccine market? * Back a few weeks ago, a very good friend who shall remain nameless - fuck it, I'll out him, it was WiscoDave - initiated a conversation with me about IM and wanted to know if I had considered taking it to 1) prevent covid and 2) use it to cure covid if I were to contract it. Me, being invincible, said no, so he turned me onto a few links and pretty much left it at that.He's a sly devil - he knew I'd eventually get bored and read them. One of them concerned a study in India. As you may recall, there was a major outbreak a couple months ago and motherfuckers were dying like flies, then all of a sudden..... nothing.Why? There's more out there if you take a few seconds to look them up. Okay, I read that, then I started digging and found more articles and videos on youtube, although youtube seems to be pulling a bunch of them if they even mention covid and IM.To make a long story short, I figured to give it a try. Hell, I never was shy about trying new drugs when I was younger, so it wasn't that big of a deal.My reasoning was this: While I may be invincible, my wife is not and with her health problems, she is one of those high risk people. She doesn't get out much, so about the only way she'd get it would be from me, so I needed to protect myself, but I really don't want to get vaccinated.Besides, I keep hearing about all the deaths and complications from taking the vaccines, but I've yet to hear about anybody dying from taking IM. On top of that, every day I read about fully vaccinated people being diagnosed with covid in spite of their precautions, so even if I got vaccinated, there's a good possibility that's not going to protect my wife from getting it. Wisco had also directed me to Ann Barnhardt's IM page HERE and told me to be sure that I read it - it tells you where to buy it, how to buy it, what kinds to buy (very important!) and dosage instructions. So, armed with that knowledge, I went into town to score some of this miracle drug in the liquid form. First stop was the Farmer's Co-op in town. There was none to be had and the old boy behind the counter said they can't keep it in stock for the past few months. That seemed a little weird seeing as I haven't noticed a massive influx of livestock around here lately - unless people are buying it up to use on themselves. Bubba also told me he couldn't guarantee a hold for me when it did come in, so I headed down to Tractor Supply. Once there, I couldn't find the liquid 1% solution so I asked one of the guys and immediately started getting the 3rd degree - just exactly what I did I want it for and shit like that, so I told him it was to worm a sick donkey. He went to the back to see if there was any there, but came back to tell me there was none in stock, so I asked him to order it for me. He hemmed and hawed around until the manager walked by and told him to order anything I wanted, with as much money as I've spent in that store, so he ordered a 50ml bottle for me and I got it 3-4 days later.While I'm on the subject of Tractor Supply, if you order something online from your home, YOU pay the shipping. If you have them order it for you, it ships to your address and shipping is free - something to keep in mind. Ten bucks is ten bucks. Anyways, after I got home and was re-reading Miss Ann's page, I realized I saw the 1.87% paste there at Tractor Supply, so I hustled back down there and scored a tube for about 8 bucks.Once I got it home, I figured to give it a whirl as a preventive measure, but I didn't want to use the liquid, figuring to hold off on that in case it became 'unavailable' in the future.Now Wisco had told me the paste tasted like ass, but what the fuck, I've eaten British food before. I ain't scared. Besides, this shit was apple flavored. So I took a piece of bread, squeezed out the recommended dose (I thought), put it on the bread, folded it over and wolfed it down. I got a very slight taste of bitter apple, so I shoveled in a load of Copenhagen and that was the end of that. Now, while IM in the liquid form is taken orally, it's drawn from the bottle and measured using a syringe which can be bought at Tractor Supply, livestock supply stores and even online at vet supply sites such as Chewy.com.In the liquid form and by using a little math, you can get the dosage down for your body weight pretty easily. Using the paste, the tube dispenses the doses in 50 kilogram increments for your body weight. Luckily, as I found out, it's pretty fucking hard to overdose yourself. As I was putting the tube away, I realized I had accidentally dosed myself with double the amount recommended for my weight. It's okay to round up - better a little too much than too little according to everything I had read, but damn, I really rounded up.Like I said, the shit measures out in 50 kilo increments for body weight and I did 3 clicks instead of 2. I weigh 170 pounds and took enough for a 330 pounder.I sat down and waited to die. What I got was a very slight headache and I do mean very slight - it wasn't even bad enough to require aspirin. I didn't even cop a buzz, damn it. Okay, that's my experience. Did I have any side effects? Nope.Did I get sick to my stomach? Huh-uh.Does my dick still get hard in the morning? Most of the time, but that's my age showing.Any frothing at the mouth? Only when I brush my teeth.Do my trigger fingers still work? Yes, praise the Lord.Any newfound empathy or tolerance for Biden? Fuck no.Do I have an urge to gallop in the pasture? What happens in that pasture is between me and God. Obviously, there's precautions.Ladies, you probably don't want to take it if you're pregnant or trying to get pregnant.If you're taking medication, you most definitely want to talk with your doctor first to see if there's going to be any kind of interactions. There's a website HERE that you can check, but I think I'd want to hear it from a doctor. How you word those questions is up to you, but if it was me I wouldn't ask IF I can take it, I'd let him or her know I was going to take it and what should I know. Okay, bottom line for me: Like I said earlier, I've heard of many, many cases of horrible side effects and even deaths from taking the vaccines, but I've yet to hear of anybody taking the correct dosage of IM having any adverse effects. I'm sure there's some out there, but if they were even remotely common, the FDA would be spreading those examples everywhere. Instead, they're putting out vague warnings like this HERE.Do I believe the hype about how deadly covid is for healthy people? No. But I do believe it can make you sicker than a dog, and I generally try to avoid shit like that. And again, I do have to protect my wife by protecting myself. Things You Need to Know When Adopting From an Animal Shelter: Dogs

I figured I’d make an informational post about things that I would routinely tell people when they came into the shelter looking to adopt. Cats are a totally different ballgame, so I’ll do a separate post for them a little later on.

First, listen to your shelter staff. They will be in the best position to know the animal’s needs and quirks. If they tell you this dog doesn’t do well with kids or small animals, don’t just assume it will be fine and take the dog home to a house full of children and rabbits. Trust them as professionals.

Make sure you can actually have a dog, legally and living-situationally. You’d be surprised how many times we got a dog returned within 24 or 48 hours because the people who adopted it weren’t allowed to have a dog by their lease, or adopted it without consulting others in the home.

Make sure you can commit to giving the dog your time. Dogs need companionship, and they need exercise. Can you make sure your dog gets walks and play time every single day? Will you have time to hang out with your dog, especially when you first get it? Or are you planning to crate your dog 10 hours a day while you’re at work and only let it out to pee at night and in the early morning? That’s not fair for a dog; they require much more attention and care than that. If you’re looking for a slightly more independent house buddy, you may need to consider a cat. (More on that later.)

Understand that breed listings in shelters are not a guarantee. Unless someone surrendered their dog with papers (unlikely), shelters cannot say for sure whether that’s a pure poodle, only what it looks like. If you have allergy concerns, please don’t depend on the shelter’s breed listing.

Know that a dog’s behavior in the shelter is not always indicative of their behavior in a home environment. They very rarely get enough mental stimulation or exercise in a shelter, which is designed to be just that--a shelter. A temporary living space. It’s loud, there’s tons of scary smells, there are strangers wandering through, their food may have changed-- they’re scared, stressed, and confused. They have energy to burn. And whenever you take them out of their kennel, of course they’re going to jump up and bark and act a little crazy. They’re happy you’re here! Or they may cower, because who are you? Or they may not act any way at all. They may just lumber along like nothing matters, they may not show any personality. Please know this is temporary. Once again, trust your shelter staff, and please spend plenty of time with the dog! Don’t just take 10 minutes to decide on your next family member; you should spend minimum an hour. This is a huge decision, so treat it like one and as you spend time with the dog, you’ll start to see glimpses of who they really are.

Similarly, a dog is not going to act “right” for a while after you get it home. Even if that dog was housetrained before, or knows commands, it may “act up” when you get it home. It may regress, or display some neurotic tics like licking, chewing, or scratching (both themselves and objects in your home). It may want to be left alone for a little while, or it may be super clingy. This behavior is temporary, and will subside. You have to be patient and give it time. The dog doesn’t realize you aren’t another temporary stop, and it doesn’t know it’s safe with you. It has no idea what just happened. Give it at bare minimum 2 weeks and be patient, looking for the progress instead of the things they’re doing “wrong”. Don’t yell at the dog, don’t use crate as a punishment, and please be gentle.

Crate training is your friend, but may need to start later than day one or two. Some dogs love the comfort of having their own space, while others relate it to their time at the shelter and get scared. Pay attention to your dog’s cues, and make sure you put plenty of comfy things in your dog’s crate. Try getting them used to a particular bed or blanket first, then transition it to the crate over time.

Take them to the vet soon. Most shelters are going to require a vet check and spay/neuter in their adoption paperwork, but even if they don’t, it’s a great idea. You want to make sure they aren’t carrying anything, or that they don’t have a condition that shelter staff missed. Also, get them fixed if they aren’t. It helps them live longer and can prevent some potentially fatal issues later on.

Consider a microchip. Some dogs may get a little adventurous as part of their adjustment period, so a microchip is a great way to help them get back to you if they get out and get lost in a now-unfamiliar neighborhood. If you do get the dog chipped, make sure you register that chip day 1, and keep your info current. Just because the chip is in doesn’t mean it’s registered!

Try to get your new dog when you know you’ll have time to be at home for the first few days. This dog doesn’t know you, even if you fell in love with him at first sight. You need to make yourself familiar, and a comforting, stable presence. Think long weekend or other consecutive vacation days.

Let them have their space, and follow their lead. Don’t force them to snuggle with you if they’d rather not. Once again, you’re a stranger. It’s like meeting a relative you haven’t seen before who knows you from pictures and stories. Aunt Betty’s hugs are well meaning, but uncomfortable because to you, she’s a total stranger. You are Aunt Betty to this dog. They may like you, but they may need some alone time. Don’t force them into interactions, but give them opportunities. Talk sweetly to them, offer them treats, use their new name a lot, and offer a toy or blanket to see if they feel like playing or cuddling. Feel free to give them lots of pets, and they may love it and never want you to stop, but pay attention to their body language. If they start yawning repeatedly and/or panting, licking their lips, turning their head or eyes away, or shaking off like when wet, they’re uncomfortable. Also, if they growl or turn up a lip, back off! Don’t try to cuddle them out of it (also a thing people will do, but shouldn’t).

Be aware that their bowel habits may change. In other words, they may have the runs, or get horribly constipated. Unless you know the exact type of food from the shelter and plan on keeping them on it, you will be changing their food. (Most shelters feed whatever is donated, so there is often no one type for you to keep them on.) Food changes, combined with the stress of all the weirdness happening around them, can lead to poopy problems. Just be aware. They’re not doing it on purpose, and they’re probably not sick; it just happens sometimes. Reduce the stress in their environment as much as possible, and take them to the vet if it doesn’t get better or go away within a few days, or they stop drinking water.

They may not want to eat for the first day or so. While not ideal, it’s also pretty normal. Again, it’s all about the stress of the new situation and changes. Offer them treats regularly (and vary the offerings), but don’t try to force-feed them. If they take treats but won’t touch their food bowl, it’s probably just nerves. They may not even take the treats, and it can still be okay. Always contact a vet if it goes beyond a day or two just to be safe. You can also try a high-quality wet food, which most dogs just can’t resist. Don’t hover over them when they’re supposed to be eating, that can make them nervous. Leave some food out if they aren’t feeding on your schedule, and then transition to timed-feeding later on after they get comfortable around you. Consider feeding them whenever you sit down to eat, so they know it’s food time and you’re not just some weirdo watching them eat in a strange house.

Keep several water bowls throughout the house at first, they may get lost or forget where the water was.

Don’t take them to the pet store to pick out a toy right away. Bring them something nice, or have it waiting on them when you come home from the shelter, but PetSmart and similar places are stressful and full of too many sights and smells. Wait a few days at home before going on outings like that.

Give it (ideally)10 days before introducing any new animals, particularly other dogs. This means waiting to go to the dog park. This is just to make sure your new pal is healthy and not going to spread something, or catch something. It also makes sure their last round of vaccines and boosters (usually given at adoption) is fully effective.

Consider a training class, but don’t start right away. You can begin trying to train on day 1, especially for things like housetraining, but you want your dog to be comfortable with you before passing them off to another stranger to learn tricks and manners. Also, training takes a ton of time, effort, and consistency. So know that your new dog may bark for quite a while before you can train them out of it, and that’s normal even for a dog that didn’t come from a shelter.

Above all, be patient. I’ve said it several times here, but it is so important. Most animals are “returned” (surrendered back to the shelter of origin) within a month of adoption. This is so bad for the dog, and can lead to trust and attachment issues that make it harder for the next person who wants to adopt, leading into a vicious cycle of adoption and return. It’s also sad for the family, because they’ve missed out on a great dog simply because they didn’t put themselves in the dog’s pov. You can’t explain to a dog what’s happening, and as much as we anthropomorphize and say that animals can sense when you have good intentions, it’s not always true. They get just as stressed and scared as we do, sometimes more because they can’t tell us what’s wrong and we can’t tell them it’s okay. Give them time, give them benefit of the doubt, and give them a stable place to learn how to trust again.

And yes, for every single one of these, I have a story or incident that made me include it on the list. Usually involving people trying to return a dog to us because they didn’t take one of these into account. I know it’s a lot to keep in mind, but adopting a dog is a big huge deal and should be treated as such. If you feel you can’t do some of these things, it’s best to wait until you can.

Interview with Wiseguy at Mindquake 2018

binaural-histolog: So how did all this get started?

WiseGuy: That's a big question.

BH: Okay, let me back up. So it used to be a very small scene. Brian David Phillips was doing things on Yahoo, and there was hypnovideo, the Maestro, etc. And then at some point it got too big to track. What happened?

WG: Well, the first thing I went to was probably 2007-2008, which was Hypnoticon. There was another conference, Hypnocon, that has been going on for like 15 years or so, but it's always been exclusive to the gay men's community so the rest of us didn't know about it.

At that time, I was a fiction writer. I posted on mcstories.com. And when I got there, it was a big surprise how many people read my stories, because if something is really popular, you'll get two, maybe three emails if you're lucky. There's no reddit or like button. There's no feedback. Simon keeps everything minimal and pure. He'll publish anything with very few exceptions, and he'll do no editing on it. It's his... what's the word? It's his aesthetic. And then suddenly you get all these people coming up and they know you and they like your stuff.

So Hypnoticon was a big success, and Mephki and Buddy [DrSlashBlight] got the idea of putting a convention together. Buddy was the face, and Mephki was the brains, the organizer. Buddy had this tremendous skill of being able to stand in the middle of the room and say "Guys, this is what we're going to do and it's going to be great and you're going to love it." And Mephki pulled everyone together and made it all happen. That was NEEHU, 2009. Mephki and Buddy had the New England Hypnosis Group, and there was a recreational hypnosis group next door, and they knew Lady Ru'etha, and she said come to this thing, and that was NEEHU 1. It was a single day. I sat in a couple of panels, talking about erotic hypnosis.

It was literally an unconference and a play party at night, in a not so great part of town. I was surprised that we didn't get in trouble with the police, and we realized later that the illegal police biker bar was next door, so the police weren't going to interfere with any disturbances around that area.

So NEEHU got bigger and bigger, and these groups all started to meet up, and so the people that were already into this found out about it. There were some things independent of NEEHU. Lee Allure and MrDream had their own thing that they run, DeepMindDarkwood. It's a camp, they keep it limited down to 45 people and that's it. But there were more people that wanted to join. Kansas City and Texas had a bunch of stuff happen. Black Rock City. And now there's five things happening yearly, and meetup groups throughout the country.

BH: Do you think there's a reason why everything started to come together in 2008?

Yes and no. All the elements were there, it could have happened earlier or later. But all the right things had to happen in the right order. NEEHU really needed Mephki and Buddy to kick it off, and there needed to be enough meetups and enough groups to keep it going. And there was a lot of learning in the community.

BH: What has the community learned?

WG: Oh, so much. In the beginning, informed consent was not a thing. If you were at a conference, it was assumed that you were consenting. You'd walk up to someone in the hallway, say "wanna see something cool?" and if they said yeah, you'd drop them. That's just... you can't do that now. It's not acceptable.

Safety and ethics was not a thing. There was a talk in NEEHU that was literally "Why do we need ethics?" And that's changed so much now. Safety and ethics are the first thing you learn, and every conference has a code of conduct.

BH: What do you think the community still has to learn?

WG: We still have to learn how to handle our shit properly.

We know how to handle the people who are clueless. We know how to handle the people who are obviously bad. We still have to figure out how to handle the people who are predators, the truly manipulative people. They'll pick their targets carefully, and it'll be someone who is new, and it happens alone in a room. There's no way to know what happened. It's one person's word against another. And it may not even be deception, they may believe their version of events completely. Belief is different from reality. These people will have friends, they have defenders, they'll say all the right things. So it's hard. There may not be a good answer.

BH: I remember reading a book on abuse called Why Does He Do That, and realizing I'd met abusers and seen them operate, and still hadn't put it all together. It is hard. On the other hand, I was encouraged by Divney's discussion about always believing the accuser by default.

WG: It's more complex than a single answer, though. I don't have a problem with BEHIVE's policy in their application, but my concern is that it doesn't scale well to larger events where the stakes are a lot higher than being banned from a local munch.

Mephki: This isn't a legal argument though. There's no standard beyond a reasonable doubt. It's a private party you can't go to, not going to jail or having your children taken away from you.

WG: Agreed, but it's still damage. It's something we haven't figured out yet.

[Much discussion ensues, in which everyone in the room weighs in. Everyone has cogent and nuanced arguments that I could not write notes on fast enough.]

BH: What's really impressed you lately? What's improved in the community that you didn't predict?

WG: Oh! Standards have evolved so much. There are so many bright young voices. Our representation has improved so much. There used to be a joke when you got out of a conference, you'd say "Remember me? I was the bearded white guy." Because that was everyone. Now you have non-binary people, femme representing people, bottom types. There are so many more points of view and inclusion in the community.

BH: One thing I've noticed is that there is an assumption that erotic hypnosis corresponds to kink and BDSM generally.

AmHypnotic, chiming in: Yes, and they're not the same thing. There's this tendency that the bigger and more intense something looks, the more impressive it is. But that's not what makes it work.

BH: I mention it because I really like the gentle femdom movement I've seen lately, where gently pulling on someone's hair is recognized and seen as dominant, and there's no pain or fear. It's not about turning everything up to 11.

WG: There's a lot of good things, but stuff like that is coming from the kink community in general. The EH community is barely 10 years old, and what we have been doing is copying what other conferences are doing, like scholarships for female presenters. And the internet and local groups getting together has been huge. There's so much better vetting of presenters and sharing of information now.

There's still a problem with sharing information. The TNG group had a presenter that had been vetted and it was a horror show. And then once it came out, there were presentations she'd given before that made it clear she had done this before, and so it's a question of getting all those people together. So there's a missing stair problem there.

Mephki: There is a discord server called the Watchtower which is all the conference and group leaders together, and there is a vetting service. There's work being done. There's hypnation. It is getting better. You have to be careful about ban lists, but they are private party events.

BH: What do you think the recreational and EH community can teach the clinical hypnosis community?

WG: [Laughter] There's no comparison. The EH community is leaps and bounds ahead of the professionals. There's no need for them to do it for money, so they have more freedom to experiment, and so it's all about the creativity. But there are professionals still reading off of scripts written in the 1950s.

BH: I know there are talented individuals. Melissa Tiers, for example.

WG: No, there are absolutely some great people out there. Melissa Tiers is a rockstar. She's very good, no bullshit, always happy to show new things she's learned. Kaz Riley is another good example. But the field as a whole is still behind and playing it safe. There can be ten different tracks at a conference and not one presentation you want to go to.

Hypnomedia: Hypnothoughts Live is really good. They have a good mix of clinical and stage hypnotists.

WG: I've heard that, but I'm afraid that if I go, I'll get outed.

BH: So final question. Erotic hypnosis would seem to have a natural overlap with using hypnosis for sexual disorders. And yet, there's almost nothing about using hypnosis to treat sexual disorders. And there's sex research on BDSM and kink, but there's very little research into erotic hypnosis. Why do you think that is?

WG: I couldn't tell you. I know there's a Dr Will Horton who puts together a five day course on Erotic Hypnosis. The first three days are clinical, focusing on erectile dysfunction, anorgasmia, and things like that. The final two days, he hands out copies of Mind Play and talks about erotic hypnosis. The mixture of clinical treatment and erotic material in the same course is not something that anyone can do, but Dr Horton has a Psy D, so he can get away with doing it.

BH: But it does seem like so many techniques are essentially erotic hypnosis with the serial numbers filed off. Tantric Massage, Sensate Focus, and so on.

WG: There are many hypnosis things that do not show up in the field. But I don't know.

“Jimin, I’m sorry to wake you, but, it’s sort of an emergency.” Namjoon said, sighing softly as he ran a hand through his hair, making his way to the living room so that he didn’t wake the hybrid with his phone call.

“Namjoon, what could be so important that you had to wake me up?” Jimin whined, though, Namjoon knew he was probably already getting ready to stop by now.

“I may or may not have a hybrid in my guest bedroom right now.” Namjoon told him, preparing for Jimin’s shocked response.

“WHAT?!” Jimin exclaimed, clearly shocked by this. “I’m on my way! How did you- Why do you- I thought you hated hybrids!” Jimin commented and Namjoon could hear his car being started.

“I’ll tell you when you’re here.” Namjoon said with a sigh. “I’ll see you soon.” He added before hanging up.

Jimin had finally made it to Namjoon’s pent house and he knocks on the door. “Finally.” Namjoon said as he opened it.

“So, care to explain?” Jimin asked with a soft yawn, sitting on the couch. He wanted to hear the full story before he meets the hybrid. Once Namjoon finishes explaining everything that had happened, Jimin leans back on the couch, sighing softly.

“What should I do?” Namjoon asked.

“Let me see her.” Jimin said, ignoring Namjoon’s question.

Namjoon rolls his eyes. “Fine.” He said, leading him to where the bunny hybrid was resting. “There she is.” He said, sighing.

Namjoon simply nods, sighing softly as he runs a hand through his hair. “Yes, yes I do. Are you suggesting that I take her in?” He asked.

“STOP!” She cried out.

“Get up!” The man said. “Get up.” He said again, though, this time, sounding softer. “Hey!” Said a completely different, more human voice.

“Hey, hey! Get up!” Spoke a gentle, worried voice and the girl sits up quickly, panting softly as beads of sweat rolled down her face. She looks around quickly. She didn’t know where she was. She then looks at the source of the gentle voice. It was a man, a younger man than the one in her dreams, and his eyes were filled with nothing but concern.

“Are you okay? It seemed like you were having a nightmare..” The man spoke softly. “I’m Jimin, it’s nice to meet you.” He said with a gentle smile. “Do you have a name?”

“Y-Y/n...” The bunny hybrid spoke softly, looking around frantically. “W-Where am I...?” She asked, looking back at Jimin, fear clear in her eyes.

“You’re somewhere safe, okay? Over there is my friend Namjoon.” Jimin said, gesturing to Namjoon who was leaning against the door frame. “You’re in his home. He found you in an alleyway and brought you back here.” He explained to the frightened girl. 

“Are you hungry?” Namjoon asked softly, watching her as she nods hesitantly. “I’ll make you something to eat.” He said softly before leaving for the kitchen.

“I know this all must be so sudden for you, but you’re safe, I promise!” Jimin said, smiling brightly. “The bathroom is down the hall, to the right. Feel free to take a shower, Namjoon won’t mind! There should already be a towel in there, and I’ll leave some of Namjoon’s old clothes outside for you. We’ll be waiting for you in the kitchen!” Jimin added with a smile and Y/n simply nods, chewing on her bottom lip as she gets up to go to the bathroom and take a shower.

Once he found clothes for the bunny hybrid, with some help from Namjoon, the two of them were now sat in the kitchen, food in front of the both of them and a third plate was placed on the table for Y/n as they waited for her to get out of the shower.

“Yah, I can’t believe you let her use my clothes.” Namjoon whined playfully, eating his food and Jimin shakes his head, chuckling.

“What’d you expect me to do? Let her run around in dirty clothes?” Jimin whined back, causing the two to laugh. “You really should consider taking her in.” Jimin said once the laughter had died down.

A heavy sigh left Namjoon’s lips. “What would happen if I just let her go back to the alley?” Namjoon asked. He really didn’t need to be taking care of a hybrid, not after what happened before.

You can sit, Namjoon made dinner, we were waiting for you before we started eating.” He told her, the bright smile never leaving his face and Y/n nods simply, hesitantly taking a seat at the table.

Jimin and Namjoon both start eating while Y/n just stares at the plate. “Something wrong?” Namjoon spoke, startling the poor girl.

“I-I need permission to eat...” Y/n spoke softly.

Namjoon looks at Jimin with a raised brow and Jimin simply sighs. “Y/n, this isn’t like your last home, okay? You’re free here, you’re equal here. You don’t need permission to eat.” He explained softly and Y/n relaxed a bit as she started eating. 

Namjoon couldn’t help but watch in awe. He had never seen what Jimin was like around hybrids before, but now he knew why Tae had recommended Jimin for the job of running the hybrid branch, he knew how to make them feel comfortable, how to make them feel safe. If he did take in this hybrid, he knew he was going to have to learn a thing or two from Jimin.

Dinner was finally done and it was time to address the issue at hand: what to do with Y/n. 

“Namjoon, I really do think it’d be best if you took her in.” Jimin whispered to Namjoon, watching as Y/n wandered around the living room curiously. “But, if you’re unsure, I can take her for the night, and you can get back to me tomorrow.” He added. 

“She can stay here for the night, no point in moving her again right now since I haven’t made my decision. Just give me tonight to think about it, okay?” Namjoon asked, sighing softly and Jimin nods.

“Alright, just take care of her. I have to head home, now, though. It’s late.” Jimin said with a soft yawn and Namjoon nods. 

“Alright, see you at work, then.” Namjoon said to Jimin who then left the penthouse.

“Where’s Jimin going?” Y/n asked.

“He’s going home for the night to get some rest, and you should head back to the guest room too, you need your rest.” He spoke, yawning a bit. “So do I..” He mumbled, causing Y/n to giggle softly.

Namjoon looks at her and he smiles a bit. It seemed like she was getting comfortable, he’d hate to ruin that. At this point, could he really say he hated hybrids when he had such a soft spot for the one in front of him? Though, he knew why why he had such a soft spot for her, she was just like her.

“Well, goodnight then. Thank you, for everything.” Y/n said, bowing slightly before turning to make her way back to the guest room he was letting her use.

Namjoon hesitates for a moment before calling out. “Y/n, would you like to stay here?” He asked softly, causing her to turn around, her eyes wide in surprise.

“What...?”

To be honest, Namjoon even surprised himself with the statement. “You don’t have to answer now. Just go and get some rest.” He told her, giving her a soft, dimpled smile before making his way to his room.

Y/n knew nothing about him, who was he? What did he do? Was he a good person? The answers to these questions scared her. But, Jimin seemed nice, and if he was friends with Jimin, then maybe he was nice too?

The more she thought about it, and the more she thought about the dimpled smile he gave her, the safer she felt here. She really was becoming comfortable here, and that’s what scared her the most. She didn’t want to be hurt again.

But, maybe he was different than those before him. Maybe she really could be happy here.

A/N: I really didn’t know where I wanted this second part to go, and I know it didn’t turn out how I wanted, but, I think it turned out nice. Hopefully you guys like it, at least.

We are Chris and Monica - a husband and wife team who love animals.

We own and work at our mobile dog grooming business. Monica is a Registered Veterinary Technician and Chris manages the business and financial side of things. We have our own 2 family dogs - Biscuit and Gravy who are both rescue dogs.

As dog groomers, we were constantly being asked about CBD for dogs by our customers - they were interested to try CBD oil drops, shampoos, etc... so we decided to learn more. We tried a few products ourselves...

What is CBD Oil?

CBD (cannabidiol) is one of the many natural cannabinoids found in the hemp plant. The hemp plant is a variety of the Cannabis Sativa plant species. Industrial hemp has lower concentrations of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and higher concentrations of cannabidiol (CBD), which decreases or eliminates its psychoactive effects. Oil is the Most Effective Delivery Method

Oil is the most effective delivery method and is dropped directly under their tongue. It is far better than dosing with CBD dog treats which may seem easier to manager. The reason is that using an oil is said to be more effective.

There are some CBD dog treats too but be careful that you know the percentage of CBD in them. It is common to lose track of how many treats you have given your dog.

Will CBD oil fix seizures in dogs?

It is too early to say for sure, but research is currently being conducted for the use of CBD to treat seizures in dogs. A CBD drug was recently approved by the FDA to treat seizures in humans.

The American Kennel Club Canine Health Foundation (CHF) is currently sponsoring a study, through the Colorado State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, to evaluate the use of CBD in treatment-resistant epileptic dogs. CHF hopes that this will be the first study to gain scientific data on the use of CBD in dogs with this condition.

My wife and I are in our 40's and 50's. We have created A/B trusts and transferred our assets to them, and expect to have estates that will benefit from the estate tax saving these trusts afford. We recently both purchased $1M 10-year renewable term life insurance policies that we expect to keep for 10 years. We chose not to use life insurance trusts because the purpose of the policies is to replace the lost income of the deceased spouse if one of us dies relatively soon, not to increase our final estate, and the trusts are somewhat costly. We each specified our own trusts as the beneficiaries, because we want the disposition of assets specified there to be used for this money. The trusts provide for the income, and principle if needed, to be paid to the spouse, and for the remainder to be paid to our child at the remaining spouses death. The question of ownership of the policies is less clear. My lawyer says that it doesn't make much difference who owns them, because the value (estate) taxed is only one year's premium, not the $1M. My accountant says that the $1M is taxed, and that each policy should be owned by the other spouse to avoid tax on that amount. 9 Bogus Facts About Lawn Care

I knocked on the door, stepped back, and politely awaited a response.  I stepped down a little from the front porch, so as not appear threatening to the person answering the door.  A shuffling noise, followed by some hurried footsteps approaching the front of the home, and then the door opened…

“Hi, my name is Jay, and I work for –“

“Sorry, I don’t believe in chemicals,” was the response I got once the woman who answered the door saw the lawn care company logo on my shirt.

“Well…that is unfortunate, because chemicals do exist.  They are a very real part of our world, so….”

Luckily, this woman saw the intended humor in my sarcastic response, and broke into a wide grin which turned into a laugh.  “What I meant was that I don’t believe in using chemicals on my lawn.”

Having been in business in Central PA for over 35 years, we often hear lots of reasons from potential clients for not purchasing lawn care.  I myself sold lawn care door-to-door for many years for a national lawn care firm, and heard just about every excuse and justification you can imagine from a potential client for deciding against hiring a service.

What follows here is the collective wisdom accumulated from personal experience and institutional memory – here are 9 “facts” about lawn care that are just categorically untrue.

1.“Lawn care is too expensive.”

I hear this one frequently.  There’s an assumption that because this service is considered to be a luxury by many homeowners, that the “luxury” must come at a premium price.

The reality is two-fold.  First, it really is a necessity for many homeowners.  I frequently field calls from clients who have neglected the lawn for years at a time, and then want it magically “fixed” before they sell it in four months.  Lawns are a complex ecosystem, composed of hundreds of thousands of individual plants.  There is no “quick-fix” for many lawn care concerns.

Secondly, many homeowners who have never had a quote are often surprised at the affordability of a lawn care service for their property.  I would frequently ask clients (and still do) to simply “Allow me to put a quote together for you.  It is no-obligation, and you might be surprised at how affordable it actually will be.  I’ll be five minutes or less with that number.”

When clients take the time to hear us out, they are usually pleasantly surprised at the resulting quote.

2.“My lawn is so bad, no one can fix it.”

This is a particularly persistent myth we run across.  Often times a homeowner has either had a bad experience with a competitor of ours, or they have tried to do this maintenance themselves with little or no results to show for their effort.

The truth of the matter is that a trained and seasoned professional can help you by setting realistic expectations for your lawn.  Unless your lawn is on an extremely steep slope or gets less than five or six hours of direct sunlight daily, you can usually have a pleasant-looking, healthy lawn.  Your professional should communicate reasonable expectations for results, how long they will take, and any additional recommendations, like aerating the lawn or the need to re-seed.  They will also probably insist on a soil test, so that any nutrient deficiencies can be address and remedied, giving your lawn the best possible chance of success.

3.“My neighbors don’t treat their lawn, so it would be a waste of money for me to treat my lawn.”

Again, the homeowners we hear this from usually fall into one of two categories.  First, they may truly see no value in treating the lawn, and they are using their neighbor’s lack of interest as a justification for their poor property management.  The other scenario is often a homeowner who worked consistently on their lawn for a number of years, and threw up their hands in frustration when the neighbor’s weeds consistently encroached across the property line.

The fact is very different.  We’ll get into some of the environmental benefits of having a healthy lawn further down the list, but the reality is that most respectable lawn care providers offer you free “call backs” or “service calls” with a full program.  If you’re paying a company to treat the lawn, and they’re leaving behind something in the lawn (usually a small flag) that has their company name on it, they want the lawn to look good.  Calling once or twice throughout the season, between your scheduled visits and asking for a touch-up on the weed control is doable.  And it usually minimizes the frustration you have with “that” neighbor’s turf issues trying to claim territory in your lawn.

4.“Lawn care is a scam. I can buy the products and DIY it!”

This assumption is only partly true.  Yes, you can buy lawn care products like fertilizer, weed control, and insecticides to treat the lawn yourself.

The reality for many homeowners is that it is very difficult to select the right products at the home center, get the timing of those applications correct, and continue to do so throughout the entire growing season.  In fact, many of the fertilizers you can buy “over-the-counter” so to speak are in effect a “watered-down” version of what the professionals use.  The companies that produce these products have been forced to do this by consumer habits; most homeowners have no idea how much product they should be applying, or they deliberately over-apply to get the lawn looking “extra-green” this season. In fact, this is the reason most of these companies no longer include phosphorus, a key ingredient in fertilizer, in their mixes.  Misapplication by homeowners runs into the watershed (it ends up in storm drains, for example) and causes rapid algae growth that damages the ecosystems it traverses on the way to larger bodies of water, like the Chesapeake Bay.

The full truth is also that many products are simply not available to your average homeowner.  Products used by your lawn care company are applied at lower rates, and applied for a specific purpose.  A professional lawn care company will almost always apply a lower (but correct) rate of fertilizer than a homeowner, and still get better results.  And many of the most efficacious herbicides require licensing from a governing body.  Here in Pennsylvania, the Department of Agriculture has a registry of licensed applicators, and they are the only ones who can legally and safely (due to training) apply these products to your lawn.

For best results, you should still hire a professional.

5.“Lawn care is bad for the environment.”

Ah, the environmentalist.  Listen folks, I grew up sorting my recyclables and watching Captain Planet for cartoons.  I get excited about plants, and read books about trees for fun.  I care as much about the environment and being a good steward of our natural resources as anyone, and probably more than most people.

The fact is that lawn care is not bad for the environment, and hiring a professional is even better for the environment, many times, then doing it yourself.  Lawn care companies have tighter government regulations on the products they use and the rates at which they use those products.  This means less run-off into local water sources; a properly applied fertilizer is absorbed by the plants it is fertilizing, leaving no room for the “extra” nutrients to leave the property.

6.“Lawn care does nothing to help the environment.”

The national firm I worked for previously invested heavily in research and development.  They had a “hold message” (when you called in and waited to speak with a representative) that gave lots of helpful information about the environmental impacts of a healthy lawn.  For instance, did you know that an average residential sized lawn, when healthy, produces enough oxygen for the family that lives there for an entire year?  Or that a healthy root system in your turf filters water more effectively than anything on the planet except virgin, untouched rainforest?

No, my friends, lawn care is not bad for the environment.  Ignoring your lawn’s needs can lead to erosion, where soil ends up in the water supply, making it dirty.  THAT is bad for the environment.  Not responsibly applied products to promote the lawn’s health.

7.“Lawn care companies don’t care about people/pets/the environment.”

I once knocked on a potential client’s door, and walked away after about a minute when there was no answer.  I got halfway to the next door to knock on, when the previous homeowner came out.  I turned back around, smiled politely, and introduced myself.

What I was greeted with in return was anger, rudeness, and outright animosity.  This woman screamed at me and waved the door-hanger I had left at her home in my face for about three full minutes.  She went on about every conceivable conspiracy regarding how lawn care companies are hurting people/pets/the environment.  I had trouble following much of it, honestly.  I finally said “I’m sorry you feel that way, Ma’am.  Sorry to have bothered you,” and walked away.  I decided I had earned a coffee break, and drove to a local gas station, where my phone rang…she had taken my phone number off the door-hanger, and called me to continue her rant.  (In fairness, she did eventually apologize to me for the way she treated me.  Lovely woman, actually!)

Lawn care products go through a pretty stringent “vetting” process by the Federal government and many state Departments of Agriculture.  They are labeled only for very specific purposes, and there are incredibly stiff penalties for violating those product label’s guidelines.  It is simply not worth the risk for your lawn care company to do something illegal (or immoral) in the way they apply products to your property.

The truth is pretty simple here; the people that run your local lawn care company have families/pets/property that they are concerned about, too.  Here at our firm, many of our coworkers are avid outdoorspeople, and care very much about the environment.  We are not going to ask you, the client, to have something applied to your property that we would (or don’t) apply to ours.

8.“Treating my lawn only means I’m going to have to mow more often.”

False.  This statement is just not the whole truth.

The real truth is that having a lawn with a healthy root system does mean that it is generally more heat and drought resistant than a lawn that suffers benign (or even malicious) neglect.  Regularly treated and aerated lawns tend to use water more effectively, and so weather the hot, dry conditions we typically experience in summer, better than untended lawns.

But the reality is that the amount of rainfall often has far more to do with the amount of mowing you’ll be doing than anything your lawn care company is applying.  That is why you mow more often in spring and fall than you do in the summer – there’s more water for the lawn.

Getting the lawn treated will help it withstand heat and drought better, but won’t necessarily make you have to mow more often.

9.“I’m paying XYZ company to treat my lawn, so it should be perfect!!”

Again, just flatly untrue.

While it is true that your lawn care professional is being paid to maintain the turf, there are many things that they simply cannot control, or cannot control until they know about them.

For instance, I once had a client that was a soccer coach, and he was from a foreign country.  The climate in his home country was much warmer, and he was used to a much different grass type.  (Grasses in North America are generally either “warm-season” or “cool-season” grasses.  We grow cool-season best here in Pennsylvania.)

This client insisted on mowing his cool-season grass very close to the soil level, like the warm-season grass he was used to in his home country.  He simply would not listen to me about the proper mowing height, and became impatient when he continued to have problems with drought stress, weeds, and a generally thin, anemic looking lawn.

Cultural practices like this are an important part of the partnership you have with your lawn care professional.  You should be working together to get the desired results, and sometimes that means you, as the homeowner, need to accept and respond to the company’s feedback on these issues.

Other considerations are insect populations, amount of rainfall, overnight temperatures, the actual grading of the lawn in question, presence (known or unknown) of turf-damaging fungus, the amount of shade on a property, the degree of slope on the property, and the amount of traffic on the turf, just to name a few.  This is by no means an exhaustive list.

Here’s the bottom line – lawn care is an established industry for a reason.  There’s value in it for the homeowner, for the neighborhood, and for the environment.  It’s here to stay.  We hope you’ve taken a few moments to read through this list and educate yourself.

Is Cannabis Safe For Pets?

The controversy surrounding cannabis never ceases to make it to the headlines. While many U.S. states can’t still come to an agreement surrounding the medical marijuana on humans, the issue of using cannabis on pets has now surfaced and piqued the curiosity of animals lovers throughout the country. Because many believe on the healing properties of marijuana, there are now pet owners and organizations who are willing to get their pets treated using cannabis.

Cannabis is known to offer relief and even cure diseases that have hurt and killed humans for a long time now. So, it is not surprising that pet owners also want to give it a try and see if it really works wonder especially when nothing else worked for their pets.

As more states legalize medical and recreational marijuana use for humans, many pet owners are treating their companions with cannabis extracts for a range of ailments, from anxiety to cancer.

Many owners turn to cannabis because pharmaceuticals don’t work for their pets. “We don’t want to give her painkillers because they just knock her out,” says Michael Fasman, who has been treating his arthritic dog, Hudson, with a high-CBD cannabis tincture made specifically for pets.

Cannabis products high on CBD and low on the psychoactive molecule, THC, allow animals to benefit from the pain-relieving effects of cannabinoids without becoming a stoner.

While many people frown upon this controversial practice, the use of medical cannabis on pets isn't totally unheard of and has actually been done in the past.

This is not a new idea. There is evidence that the ancient Greeks treated their horses and perhaps other livestock with cannabis for a wide host of ailments, from nosebleeds to tapeworms, especially skin conditions and wounds. The U.S. Cavalry used cannabis to treat intestinal problems in their horses in the late 1800s.

On the downside, basically zero clinical research has been done on any of the effects of cannabis on any nonhuman animal. And because cannabis is a Schedule 1 drug, veterinarians in some states are forbidden even to discuss it as a treatment option, so figuring out what a safe dosage is could be tricky. Almost the entire body of evidence in favor of this experimental treatment is anecdotal.

But that evidence is astonishing. Many stories come from pet owners who want to relieve their pet’s suffering during their last months or weeks with terminal diseases. The pharmaceuticals that vets are allowed to prescribe often rob their pets of their joy for life, and some even make the problems worse. Pet owners who switch to cannabis report an ability to manage their pet’s pain without the side effects of traditional medicines like tramadol. Pet owners often report an increase in appetite, a desire to play and snuggle, and a general sense of “returning to normal.” Treatments are even starting to turn up in shops, with dispensaries in California offering high-CBD or THC-A tinctures from Dr. Douglas Kramer, a veterinarian specializing in cannabis treatment for pets. Specifically created for cats and dogs with high inflammation, severe pain, and end-of-life issues, the tinctures are available to people with medical cards.

And there were many cases where the results were positive – where both pet and owner can’t thank cannabis enough for providing them relief where most conventional medicines have failed.

Michael Fasman’s 12-year-old dog, Hudson, limps from pain caused by arthritis and an amputated toe, but Fasman doesn’t want to give her painkillers because “they just knock her out.”

So, the San Francisco resident has turned to an alternative medicine that many humans use to treat their own pain and illness: marijuana.

On a recent morning, Fasman squeezed several drops of a cannabis extract onto a plate of yogurt, which the Portuguese water dog lapped up in seconds. It’s become part of Hudson’s daily routine.

“We think it’s really lifted her spirits and made her a happier dog,” Fasman said. “It’s not that she’s changed. She’s just back to her good old self.”

Pets are family to most pet owners (yes, we're even talking about birds). Their humans will do everything for their pets especially when it involves their health and well-being. Despite lacking in scientific data, nobody can’t stop pet owners who want to resort to medical marijuana for help because it has worked for others so it might work for their pets too. Since they are aware of the risks involved, they have no one to blame in case something goes wrong. So, we'll see in the future how pets react to the use of medical cannabis.

Today’s show explores both sides of the debate over a controversial executive order concerning travel to America. After some U.S. Supreme Court trivia, we’re naming the justices that President Trump’s nominee could eventually be working with. And we’re following up on a story out of Flint, Michigan to see the progress and the pain surrounding the city’s water crisis.

CARL AZUZ, CNN 10 ANCHOR: Welcome to CNN 10. I’m Carl Azuz. Thank you for watching.

First story we’re covering involves a controversial executive order concerning travel to America. The order that President Donald Trump signed Friday is called the Protection of the Nation from Foreign Terrorists Entry into the United States. It follows through in a campaign promise Mr. Trump made to tighten U.S. borders and stop certain refugees from entering the country.

The order aims to do that by suspending the U.S. refugee admissions program for 120 days. So, that’s on hold. It puts a temporary 90-day ban, a stop, to people entering the U.S. from certain terrorism-prone countries. It puts an indefinite ban on people entering the U.S. from Syria, and it puts a limit on the total number of refugees allowed to enter the U.S. at 50,000 for the fiscal year. Former President Obama had increased that to 110,000 in his last year in office.

President Trump wants to institute what he calls extreme vetting, screening of immigrants to the U.S., and he says this will all help keep Islamic terrorists out of the country.

AZUZ: House Speaker Paul Ryan says President Trump is right to make sure the U.S. is doing everything possible to know exactly who is entering the country. This is the first time U.S. refugee admissions had been suspended. Former President George W. Bush suspended them for three months after the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks.

But President Trump’s plan is unique and that it bans from specific countries — Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen. The majority of people in these countries are Muslim, and critics say the president’s order discriminates against Muslims.

SEN. CHUCK SCHUMER (D), NEW YORK: It was implemented in a way that created chaos and confusion across the country and it will only serve to embolden and inspire those around the globe who will do us harm.

AZUZ: The Council on American Islamic Relations says there’s no evidence that refugees are a threat to U.S. national security. And over the weekend, a number of legal challenges were made to the order.

A federal judge in New York granted an emergency stay Saturday night. What that did would say citizens from the affected countries who’ve already arrived in the U.S. or who were on the way legally, before the order, cannot be removed from America. The judge said that removal would violate the immigrants due process and equal protection guaranteed by the Constitution.

Across the U.S., protesters gathered to speak out against the restrictions. There were demonstrations at U.S. landmarks and at major American airports where some people from the listed countries were detained.

AZUZ: There’s been a vacancy in the nine-member court, since Associate Justice Antonin Scalia died suddenly last February. President Trump is expected to nominate a replacement this week. It will then up to the Senate to confirm or reject the president’s nominee.

While campaigning, Mr. Trump promised to pick someone with conservative views, like Justice Scalia. And at this weekend’s March for Life, an annual rally against abortion in the U.S., Mike Pence, who is the first sitting vice president to speak at the event, said President Trump’s nominee will support anti-abortion policies. The rally is the largest pro-life event in the world, and the White House says it stands with the marchers.

With President Trump set to nominate the next justice, here’s a look at whom the nominee will be working.

First, the chief justice of the United States. John Roberts was nominated by President George W. Bush. He’s been on the job since 2005 and he’s the youngest chief justice since John Marshall in 1801.

Then, there’s Justice Anthony Kennedy. He was nominated by President Ronald Reagan and sworn in in 1988. He’s considered a conservative, but he voted to uphold Roe v. Wade and to legalize same sex marriage.

Justice Clarence Thomas was nominated by President George H.W. Bush. When he started in 1991, he was the second African-American to serve on the court.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was nominated by President Bill Clinton and begun her service in 1993. Twenty years later, she officiated a same-sex marriage ceremony that was legal in some states then, but not yet nationwide.

Justice Stephen Breyer was also nominated by President Clinton. He was sworn in 1994. Before that, he worked as an assistant prosecutor during the Watergate hearings.

Justice Samuel Alito was another nominee of the 43rd president. A conservative justice, he’s been nicknamed “Scalito” because his views are similar to those of late Justice Antonin Scalia.

President Barack Obama nominated Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the first Hispanic Supreme Court justice. She started in 2009.

And another Obama nominee, Justice Elena Kagan started in 2010. She’s the youngest member of the Supreme Court.

Flint, Michigan, has been a city in crisis for more than two years. The problem is in the water.

In 2014, to save money, the city of Flint switched its water supply from Lake Huron to the Flint River. But the river water is highly corrosive. It eats away at old iron and lead pipes. And though federal law says the water has to be treated with chemicals to prevent that corrosion, it wasn’t, according to the class action lawsuit. And lead from the pipes leached into the city’s drinking water, leading to a public health crisis.

The water supply wasn’t switched back to Lake Huron until mid-October in 2015. The good news, the levels of lead in Flint recently tested below the federal limit in its sixth-month study. The state still recommends that residents use filtered water for drinking and cooking while pipe replacements continue.

Problems remain though for the city and its residents.

DR. SANJAY GUPTA, CNN CHIEF MEDICAL CORRESPONDENT: Look right at me. Look right at me.

(voice-over): When her son Gavin started to become Illinois, it was subtle, so subtle LeeAnne Walters wouldn’t have been blamed for missing it.

(on camera): Look up. Keep your head straight. Over here.

Good job. Look up. Look down. Do you have any — do your fingers feel numb at all?

(voice-over): But one day she looked at Gavin and then looked at his twin brother, Garrett, side by side. The difference was staggering.

LEEANNE WALTERS, MOTHER OF TWO & FLINT RESIDENT: The size he is right now is pretty much the size he was last February, February 5th of 2015.

GUPTA (on camera): Almost a year?

WALTERS: Almost a year ago. Yes.

GUPTA: How much does he weigh versus his twin?

WALTERS: He’s 38.5 pounds and his twin is 53 pounds.

GUPTA (voice-over): For months, they had been drinking the same water. But Gavin was showing the effects of being poisoned by lead. And such is the nature of lead poisoning, it can affect people very differently, even twins.

(on camera): Do you remember what the number was?

WALTERS: Six-point-five.

GUPTA: And what is normal?

WALTERS: Nothing. There’s no safe exposure to lead.

GUPTA (voice-over): It’s a mantra repeated by doctors all over the world, no lead, not even a little bit, is acceptable. Because we know more than ever what it does to the body.

When lead is ingested or inhaled, no organ in the body is spared. Lead even attacks the DNA, affecting not just you, but your future children — all of it essentially irreversible. Equally frustrating, the symptoms could show up now or years from now.

WALTERS: Wait, watch and see. How do you live your life like that?

GUPTA (on camera): It’s upsetting.

WALTERS: He’s four.

GUPTA (voice-over): The lead was coming from the corroded pipes carrying water. The longer the water was in the pipes, the more hazardous it came.

(on camera): One of the problems is that the Walters’ house is one of the furthest away from the treatment facility. It partly explains why the testing here was among the highest, 13,000 parts per billion. To give you some context, five parts per billion would be cause for concern, 5,000 parts per billion is associated with toxic waste. This home, 13,000 parts per billion.

But, of course, it’s not just one home. It’s an entire community here in Flint. A hundred thousand people live here, 10 percent, 10,000 of whom are under the age of 6, and they’re the one’s who are most at risk.

AZUZ: It seems like buzzer beaters always earn “10 Out of 10”. Down 62-60, with just over three seconds left on the clock, a young man who also plays quarterback for ADM High School got the ball and he did down the court. It was intercepted by the other team but then coughed up and ADM guard Jared Sapp took the shoot he knew he could make. It did not go right in, but after a high bounce off the rim, it won ADM the game.

The point, it’s actually three. Net plenty of practice, never give up, off court, and always take your best shot. Overtime, working overtime can save you from over time.
