Tumblr media
- When you almost lost yourself in his eyes and hurriedly snapped your head away from him, you knew you were so screwed.  - Your racing heart knew.  - He’s cute. And he most likely knows that you think he’s cute. - You first saw Kazuha in your literature class when you had to sit next to him. He smiled at you before going back to his own work, thus leaving you both to do your respective duties.  - But as the weeks passed and class discussions were more frequent, you found yourself enjoying listening to Kazuha’s discussions on the text presented, sometimes bringing in your own input.  - His voice soothed your mind, and your heart clung onto every syllable he had spoken. His eyes sparkled everytime you listened to his thoughts-  - Ahem.
You were, inevitably, starting to crush on him.
You walked into class and whispered a quiet prayer to yourself in hopes that you wouldn't reveal anything to him right now.
And plus, Valentine's Day is such a cheesy day to confess! Besides the couples giggling and buying the really good chocolates, and seeing people talk to Kazuha, and noticing how cute he is when he laughs…
You internally smacked your head and chided yourself for the spiraling thoughts and sat in your seat.
Kazuha smiled at you, before he resumed talking with with his friends. His friends snickered and patted his shoulder, before he covered his smile with the back of his hand.
Huh. He never really gets flustered. Did he…
The bell rang, and his friends left the class, yelling out “Good luck!” before closing the door.
Kazuha sat down and smiled at you once more, yet it was filled with excitement. “I’m sorry I didn’t greet you properly.”
You shook your head and smiled back. “It’s fine. Are you doing anything today?”
“For Valentine’s?”
You shook your head.
“I was thinking of confessing to someone today. I’m meeting them by my locker after school.”
“You have a crush?!”
Damnit, you thought.
He laughed, and a soft red tinted his cheeks. “Mhm. I was thinking of sending them a poem with some sweets today.”
He showed you the gift and you internally recoiled. The gift was so unbelievably throughout, with your favorite sweets inside, along with a poem so sweetened the other person would become dizzy with love. It was beautiful, just like the grin on his face.
Your heart shattered, and you wondered what you would do after school if you still had time after crying.
“Kazuha…you put this together so nicely…”
His grin widened, and he put the gift down. “I’m really glad you like it. It gives me a little bit of reassurance.”
The teacher walked into the room, and both of you straighted your chairs to start the class.
“So, because it’s Valentine's Day, we will do an activity…”
Well, thank the teacher for rubbing it into your face.
Class went on for a begrudgingly long time, and the ache in your heart began to grow. Kazuha noticed your solemn expression and brushed your hands together. When you straightened yourself in a panic, you saw his face of concern.
“Are you alright? You look stressed right now.”
“Uh.. yeah. Sorry, I have a project for another class that’s really stressful right now.”
He nodded, and you both resumed your work. The teacher droned on about the analysis of the text and the context of the author’s work, yet you couldn’t really get yourself to focus, not with this heartache that remains.
A thought rushed past your mind. What if this was for you?
You? That’s funny, if it didn’t hurt so much. There’s no point thinking about it anyways.
After some more time, class finally ended, and you packed your bag while Kazuha stood up.
“Ah, I have to head out, I have something urgent to do for a class.”
He put his hand on your shoulder and smiled.
“I hope you finished this project of yours. Just let me know if you need anything, alright?”
You snapped your head back and felt your face burn. “Oh, thank you. I’ll see you later.”
Kazuha left the room and you almost felt yourself succumb to the hot flare that passed your body. Your shoulder, where his hand was, almost felt weak to the touch, and you barely packed up your bag without having a heart attack.
You looked to the floor and saw Kazuha’s gift underneath his desk. Quickly picking it up, you grabbed your bag and said your greeting to the teacher, before leaving the classroom.
It was your free period, and you would finally decide on what to do with Kazuha’s gift. You wouldn’t want him to show up to his confession empty handed, or worse, his crush not show up at all. So, you would wait by his locker and make sure you run out before then. Alright.
Well… it would be alright if it didn’t hurt so much.
And so, classes went on, droning about formulas and equations, and the minutes wouldn’t stop ticking, and your mind wouldn’t stop thinking of who would be the receiver of his gift. When the final bell rang for the day, you took the gift and rushed down the hallways to find his locker.
Except… there’s no one there waiting for him.
A little concerned, you decided to wait to either give it to Kazuha or whoever was waiting for him.
But the minutes had steadily gone by, and you started to worry whether the person even got a message from him.
“Ah…There you are.”
Kazuha’s face beamed as he got closer, and you laughed at the sight of him.
“Here's your gift that you left behind.” You extend your hand to him, and his eyebrows furrowed.
“Hm?”
Surprised by his reaction, you were silent as your own eyebrows furrowed.
“This…this isn't yours? Kazuha, are you sure you're in the right mind?”
“That's yours.”
“But, you left it there?! Kazuha, what are you on?”
“Why do you think I left it there?”
Your mind blanked, and you looked at him with panic.
“Kazuha, you left it there. I am here to give it to you.”
Kazuha started laughing and covered his face with his hands.
“You are so… I left it there for you.”
You stayed silent for a second. Then another.
“What?!”
Now that you think of it, Kazuha is never forgetful. And the way he looked at the gift multiple times, and the way he knew of your favorite sweets, and the way he looked at you…
You covered your face in embarrassment, yet your smile grew into a grin.
“You could've told me, Kazuha…”
He took your hands and clasped them in own.
“Well, you are aware now, and I am sure you are aware of what I want to ask, dove.”
Your jaw dropped, and your eyes flickered between him and the gift.
“Hm? Dove?”
You failed to response, as your body was still in shock and in complete utter denial.
You finally spoke.
“Why?”
Kazuha smiled at you and took your intertwined hands to his chest, right where his heart was.
“Well, ask my beating heart. I assure you it beats the syllables of your name every time I see you.”
You swore to every archon that this man right in front of you would somehow be the cause of your death as well.
“So, dove, will you be my valentine?”

ok personal top 5 least favorite responses 2 lambpost:
1. terfs going ‘woman moment’ -> your politics are rooted in a fundamental reinvestment in the very sex binaries that undergird patriarchal power & your analysis of this post is shallow & mean-spirited. immediate block
2. ‘get therapy LOL’ -> health itself is a social construct as is mental health & therapy is not a neutral institution. your assumption that anything deemed strange/abnormal/uncomfortable must be the result of an emotional state in need of ‘fixing’ indicates a lack of critical self-reflection as to how and within what institutional confines your own ideas about what is ‘normal’ & ‘healthy’ have developed
3. ‘wait is this deep & meaningful or is it weird & horny i can’t tell’ -> your inability to reconcile the fact that the erotic can be meaningful & the grotesque sexual paired with your assumption that art must have a single, fundamental True meaning is tiresome
4. ‘oh yeah well i’m NOT the priest’s favorite sacrificial lamb because i bite & kick & fight back’ etc etc -> ok. why r u on the priest’s favorite sacrificial lamb post then
5. ‘clearly the Actual Meaning of this post is X & anyone interacting w it in a different way is a freak/brain damaged/incapable of critical thought/etc’ -> do u enjoy the pedestal u have built for urself. does it make u feel special.

succession fic rec list
In honour of succession s4 coming out, I thought I’d make a list of my favourite succession fics. These are all either romangerri or tomgreg, but other characters tend to feature fairly prominently. I’ve split these fics up into two categories: missing moments in canon and fix-it fics. The first category features fics that stick closely to the events of canon and are true to the tone of the show. The latter includes fics that try and give the characters more functional and healthier relationships, and are more optimistic. Fics with an asterisk are my personal favourite.
As always, check the tags and warnings on ao3 before reading. And without further ado, see below for the fics :)
romangerri
missing moments in canon
the nutcracker [M] by @thefudge [1,218 words] - “Roman. Behave.” (or Gerri and Roman see The Nutcracker. Holiday prompt).
This fic would fit right in with one of the early s2 episodes, it nails their dynamic from that era perfectly. It’s a romangerri classic: sexual-but-not-really-sexual contact, and its super hot. A must-read.
Must Be Love [T] by @everybodyilovedies [2,719] - On the plane ride back from Tuscany, Kendall and Roman get some time alone to talk about dickpicgate, and the woman at the (attempted) receiving end of it.
Even if you aren’t a romangerri shipper, I would recommend this fic just for the hilarious dynamic between Kendall and Roman. The author manages to tease the possibility of a reunion between Roman and Gerri, while also staying true to the events of canon.
the true encounter [M] by wellprince [1,354] - “Hell yeah he is,” Roman says. “He’s about to splash his cum all over this great white nation of ours. And I’m the invisible hand behind the handjob. Look, you’d love him if you met him.” That’s probably not true. Gerri doesn’t love anyone. Whatever.
This fic is the perfect coda to ep 3.06. Not only is it really well-written, it also functions as a great analysis of Roman’s character, his sexuality issues and explores what pulls him towards both Mencken and Gerri.
**You Could Make a Killing [M] by gaycoruscant [3,633] -  After watching Logan slap Roman, Gerri struggles with conflicting loyalties.
This fic explores the contradictions of Gerri’s relationship with Roman and her support of his father. Gerri is beautifully written - she’s multi-faceted, and the author does a really good job getting into her head. The writing is beautiful, and there’s a delicious tension between Roman and Gerri throughout.
fix-it fics
live near your fire as winter blows [E] by @alittledizzy [10,047] - Roman invites Gerri to a cabin in the Catskills and they manage to work through some (not all, but some) of their shit.
Roman and Gerri get their shit together in a way that feels very in-character. I especially enjoy how the author has handled the age gap - this fic does not shy away from the fact that Gerri is an older woman, which makes both her character and the sex scene feel really natural and authentic.
Ring the Bells That Still Can Ring [E] by moreculturelesspop [1,800] - Roman considers fatherhood and an alternative life with Gerri.
This fic is exactly what I imagine the inside of Roman’s head sounds like. It’s very well-written and presents a really interesting study of Roman’s views on parenting and his feelings towards Gerri. Fantastic Roman POV.
holiday [T] by @dollsome-does-tumblr [2,107] - Gerri steals Roman away for breakfast on the last morning in Tuscany. Set after 3.09.
If you’re worried about what will happen to Roman and Gerri in s4, or still hurting after the s3 finale, read this fic. This fic gives a real sense of closure to the events in Italy and still leaves open the possibility of a reunion in the future.
tomgreg
missing moments in canon
**the old way with the sledge [M] by @round-thedecay [4,390] - Tom takes care of Greg, with many layers of bargaining, withheld information, and slaughterhouse imagery in between. Meanwhile: Tom's marriage will be a slow death.
I can literally hear Tom and Greg’s voices in my head as I read the dialogue in this fic. Even though Shiv only shows up at the end, she feels like such a presence throughout this fic. Both her character and relationship with Tom are really well-handled.
Subterranean Homesick Blues [M] by @envius [9,077] - After a month of separation, Tom gets everything he thought he wanted.
The author really understands the dynamic between Tom/Greg and Tom/Shiv, with both relationships feeling balanced and in-character. This is MY s4, so no matter what happens in the show, I know I’ve always got this fic.
Three Legs [E] by @neroxsporus [6,603] - Tom and Greg celebrate Greg's moving up. It's hard to say who gets more out of it.
Excellent coda to ep 2.04, where Greg uses Tom as a human footstool. This fic nails the weird, homoerotic aspects of their relationship and explores the culture of toxic masculinity and power at Waystar. Very funny and in-character.
**Saturn's Stomach [M] by baffledbear [6,549] - Things take a turn for the worse when Logan invites Tom and Greg on a secluded hunting trip in Virginia. Deep in the wilderness and with nowhere else to run, the pair must rely on each other in order to survive a deadly game.
This fic feels like it is written by someone who really understands Tom’s arc and what the narrative is trying to convey. The ending is incredibly satisfying, tying in many of the themes from the show. The relationship between Tom and Greg develops in a really plausible manner, and while they are endgame, Tom and Shiv’s relationship is still incredibly meaningful throughout.
fix-it fics
put your money where your mouth is tonight [E] by asphaltworld [6,964] - Greg smokes and tries to think of what to do, like, with his life in general.
Greg loves being a sugar baby: The fic. This is a very plausible take on Greg’s character, and the author does a really good job delving into Greg’s POV and his thoughts on Tom. This is a fun, lighthearted read that fits in well with the end of s3.

AUDHD 👏 GOJO 👏
I’m right there with you so, in true AuDHD style, I’m zooming into your inbox to infodump because I’m ALWAYS desperate to scream about this (shout out to @ellionwrites for patiently and compassionately listening to my unpolished rambles about a lot of this stuff in private)!
I actually have a LOT of thoughts about 236 and how it’s Gojo’s “unmasking”. That chapter is really emotional for me because of how well it articulates my personal experience of navigating the world as an autistic person. This post (and especially its tags) from right after it came out says it in a much more concise way, but Gojo’s upset pout breaks my heart because, to me, that's evidence of “no matter how much you try, people will misunderstand you” and damn… that hits a little close to home 🥲
It’s why his death had such a strong impact on me, especially when it felt like half the internet was ignoring the actual words Gojo said to claim “he never cared about that stuff, he was arrogant from the start and you just misread him". In combination with “it was the best ending for a character like Gojo" — right after we find out how deeply lonely he’s been, never able to truly connect with anyone after Geto left? Well, it was mindblowingly meta and, therefore, pretty painful to read.
I wrote an analysis of Gojo’s character in 236 and, even though I wasn’t viewing him through an autistic lens for that particular post, I think my words under the cut still read that way — that’s how baked into his character I think this stuff is! I genuinely think the two pairs of sorcerers sitting with their backs to each other is a visual representation of the double empathy problem. I'm not sure autistic and allistic people can ever arrive at a place where we fully understand each other, but that doesn’t mean autistic people have to carry all the burden and remain isolated. That’s why it’s meaningful that Gege makes it clear that all the characters care about each other, even if they don’t see eye-to-eye.
Glad to see you shouting about this reading of his character, because I haven’t seen many people talking about it. Some people are very hostile to ND headcanons, especially for characters as popular as Gojo, which is why I haven’t really talked about it much myself. However, I feel like any fellow AuDHDers who read my fic must be side-eying me constantly because I don’t think I’m subtle about how I write Gojo’s character at ALL 🤪
Maybe it’s time to be brave and publicly share my 236 AuDHD!Gojo manifesto for the five of us who are standing in a circle screaming about this! Cheering you on and sending lots of love ♥️
Ahhhhh thank you so much for this infodump!!!! I was on a AuDHD!Gojo rampage last night as my brain worm hit right as I should have been going to sleep. But such are things....
Like idk why it didn't truly hit me until now, but I can't unseen Gojo as AuDHD. (It was probably because I re-watched "Everything's Gonna be Okay" with some AuDHD representation and then I started thinking of other AuDHD characters and immediately thought of Gojo.) I did play with the idea a few months back, but it hit me with full force yesterday.
Idk like I get a little annoyed with people who think I or others like Gojo just because "he's hot" because like okay fine yes (but also I think I just have gender envy but that's a whole other can of worms). But also, no no no that's not it! My love for Gojo is more than that! He speaks to me as a character. He's misunderstood. He's seen as something he isn't. In my eyes, he's neurodivergent (and queer). And Geto was the only other person who ever saw him for who he really was.
Gojo's death was really hard on me. I remember exactly where I was when I read that chapter. And then the airport. Fuck. EmOtIOns. At first, I tried understanding Nanami's words. I really did. But really, I just didn't if I'm honest. Those words were a shock to me. Like yeah okay he's selfish (but like aren't all humans?). He also helps though! Isn't that obvious? And at the end? He wanted to have an equal to go all out with in a fight. Again, why was that bad? He was also helping! What's the issue? He's a fallible human. Like you said in your analysis, he contains multitudes. What's wrong with that?
So, like many others, I thought maybe I misread Gojo. But no. Now I think the missing piece was that Gojo is AuDHD and Nanami didn't quite get that. He didn't understand Gojo's actions. (And ahh god that lil pout. Gojo was just living his life and people saw him but they never ~saw~ him.)
I think the visual of the sorcerers back-to-back is a great metaphor for the double empathy problem. I never saw it that way, but I see it now and like it! And I think you're so right with the fact that the characters still respect and support each other even if they don't understand each other fully. I think that's a theme woven throughout the story.
Blahhh I feel like there is so much textual support for AuDHD Gojo. Like him being blindsided by Geto's defection because he didn't see Geto's decline (and don't get me started about Autistic!Geto with his strict black-and-white thinking), him just blabbing about sweets when he meets up with Megumi before fighting one-finger Sukuna at the beginning, the fact he thought revealing Yuuji to his classmates at the exchange event would be funny (cause hey, I thought it would too until it happened and I saw oh hey, it wasn't), etc. Plus, his blindfold. His overall personality. Like, it's such a heavy mask. Now I see that.
I feel like people either love Gojo or they hate him. (I immediately gobbled up your analysis and 100% agree. And I think people's reactions to his death are pretty telling.)
So, thank you for the yummy AuDHD!Gojo content. Please feel free to send me more/link me to things. I feel like I have a million more things to say but my brain is jumping all over the place and I've already spent 40 minutes this morning on this when I should have been getting ready for work. Hehe, whoops.
Gojo is AuDHD. I will die on this hill. Let's keep staring and screaming at each other about this. Sending you good vibes and love as well 🤍

new hazbin hotel VA analysis and thoughts
okay so, for anyone who didn't already know, Prime Video released this video earlier today (Dec 15), announcing the official new cast list for the Hazbin Hotel voice actors
i, in all of my neurodivergent hyperfixation glory (or whatever), have some THOUGHTS on this, so i’m making a series of posts analysing/talking through all of my thoughts and emotions about the new VAs! gonna try and keep everything either positive or neutral, i’m not gonna be, like, an outright dick to any of the casting choices because honestly i think they’re all very good in their own right!
anyway, yeah, this one is the first one! going below a cut because even though most of them aren’t that long on their own, it’s gonna get REALLY long once all of them are added in the reblogs (going to add characters to the tags on this OP of the post as they're posted cause reblog tags don't do shit, wordcounts after this one will be in the respective reblogs' tags so they're visible and comprehensible)
the characters i’m planning on doing, ones that are posted already will be linked from the word!:
Charlie (this one!), Vaggie, Angel Dust, Alastor, Sir Pentious, Husk, Niffty, Vox, and Valentino (if/when it's released, i'd also like to do one of these for Cherri Bomb! i haven't seen any talk of her VA so far though gdfjhk)
word count for the FIRST analysis after the cut: 337
so! the first of many! to start with, Charlie’s new VA is Erika Henningsen! we got to hear quite a lot of her singing voice in the announcement video, as it was, well, a music video, but what about her speaking voice? linked here is a video of her speaking, to use as reference next to the announcement video itself! of course, she may speak differently for the actual role, many VAs do that (many also don’t!), so she may sound slightly different in the show!
main thoughts: i really like this choice for Charlie. i thought her original VAs (singing and speaking) from the pilot were brilliant, but both the “OGs” and Erika fit the character really well. i think she sort of sounds hopeful in a disney princess way, which i’ve seen a lot of people saying in a negative manner but i think in this context it’s a good thing! it adds a sort of upbeat element that makes her stand out from the other characters we’ve seen, which i think ties in really nicely with her character and personality
i will say, in the pilot, i was never particularly attached to Charlie as a character. i of course do love her, i love almost all the characters, but she was never one that stood out to me nearly as much as, say, Alastor. that being said, i never formed a notably strong importance to her voice in my brain, compared to some of the others from the show, so while her voice is noticeably different, for me personally i don’t expect it to be nearly as jarring as it will probably be for some of the others
i’m really excited to see where Erika takes this role, though, she seems like she has the ability to voice Charlie really well, and especially as the main character (or, one of them), i think her voice is gonna be able to be a strong foundation to go off of with taking the character even further

I don't understand why fans in general are always so against critical analysis & always try to defend characters whenever someone points out bad writing. Bsd fans have huge issue like that I'm glad you're so vocal about dazai character writing tho cause lots of people just avoid it due to his fans taking it so personal
I think it’s mainly an issue of people not properly tagging their posts, so that when people search their favorite characters, they find negativity instead of the positive content they were hoping for. It makes sense why that would be annoying— but in the end of the day it’s everyone’s job to curate their own internet experience.
I tag all of my negative posts with #anti dazai, so it’s pretty easy for a person to just block that tag (or block this account), and so most people don’t have a problem with me. I’ve only run into any sort of problem with two separate tumblr users in the past (one of which is pretty infamous in these bsd tumblr circles)— so from my end of things, I don’t really see all the people getting angry about character-critical content. I know it’s out there, I personally just don’t come across it very often.
I also block very liberally, so that might be a contributing factor to why I don’t see that side of the fandom. But either way.
I’m glad you’re enjoying this blog!! For any given piece of media there will be positive aspects and negative aspects, and everyone can and should feel free to talk as much as they want about both sides. There also isn’t a single right answer— meaning one person could find a character to be written in a very compelling way and someone else can find the character writing shallow— neither person is wrong, so long as they can justify their opinions with textual evidence.
The only time a media interpretation is wrong is when it’s entirely made up. And I don’t mean “this person read the text and came away with a different conclusion than me,” I mean “this person is directly contradicting the text and is giving no reasons for why they might think the text is lying.” There’s always the concept of an unreliable narrator, but on tumblr, the website that’s infamous for lacking any sort of Reading Comprehension… yeah you’re not gonna get the brilliant literary debates everyone’s hoping for.

I care about Rose! In fact, we started watching house of dragon (only 2 episode so far though) and it constantly makes me think of Rose because you use it as inspiration. Like obviously there’s the coronation scene which reminds me of stars. And there’s the character Willum is sorta kinda inspired by. And it’s an entirely different world, but every time I’m drawn back to Rose wondering how things will play out. (Which is not pressure to finish writing it if you don’t want to. Writer’s block can be a bitch and I get that the motivation for this project has been sucked out, but I just want you to know that I still care, and I’m not the only one.)
Also, I’ve been meaning to start my Ready, Set, Detonate analysis but I keeps getting away from me. I’m not sure there will be much to analyse, but there’s definitely fun details I want to point out. Oh and I am Looking 👀 at the fit/pac tag and kicking my feet. I don’t actually know if they are already in a relationship (I’m sure we’ll find out, but I just loved Fit’s little “Pac’s here?” That man is gone. Oh and I’m so excited for this Tubbo and to read more Bagi and the lore. Just all of it.
Then the original writing is a mood. I keep getting like a few chapters into my story before deciding it’s not good enough or thinking of something else I could do and throwing it all out. It’s this constant loop that never seems to get anywhere even though the story gets more and more fleshed out in my head every time. I think it’s because the opportunities are endless. Like there’s no characters and personalities and dynamics to stick to like there is in fan fiction. It’s free game but that does mean you have to decide everything yourself.
Anyway, best original writing advice I can give is remember the drafting process. There’s going to be a shit ton of drafts, which feels different for you because you’ve been mostly writing stories and posting them as you go, which means some minor or major editing, but leaves you without a chance to do a once over. It’s a sort of pressure to get everything right the first time. Meanwhile, original writing is something you keep close to your chest. There’s different drafting stages ranging from the zero draft (aka excessive daydreaming about all the possibilities) to the final draft (where you just go through and kill all your darlings and pour over ever single word to find the right one).
I’m struggling a lot with the first draft, which is literally just getting words onto a page. It’s a somewhat coherent mess that just allows you to shape the story and its structure so you can work off of that and edit it later on. I don’t know if this actually helps, but yeah, the first draft sucks and then it mostly gets easier. Just write, is kinda shitty advice, but it’s mainly, just get words onto a page, you will get a million chances to fix it, you don’t need to be happy about what you wrote right now.
-🌲
ohhhh I'm so excited you've started watching hotd!! good timing since the second season is going to come out later this year :D I hope you enjoy!! and I'm so happy to hear you're still excited about rose. I definitely want to finish writing it, like I said it's just me worrying about if anyone will bother to read it but a lot of you have said you would so that helps assuage my worries a bit
feel free to send whatever random thoughts you have about ready set detonate you know idc if it's analysis or not I just love seeing peoples reactions!! fit and pac are not in a relationship (yet) in the fic but theres a lot of flirty pining going on lol
god yeah it's so much harder with original fiction because it feels like there's so much pressure. you have too much freedom to do whatever you want so you're constantly second guessing if it's good enough or not. and ofc I know rough drafts are supposed to be shitty but I've tried to hone my skills so that my first draft is always incredibly solid because I rarely have the patience to do heavy edits, but that's with fanfiction. it has to be different with original fiction I know but it's hard to make my brain okay with that. I keep feeling like it needs to be nearly perfect on the first run :( but yeah I'm mostly trying to get words on a page. but then I think back and realize I forgot to mention this or I need to mention more of that etc etc and it's just stressful arghhh

another thing which is more fandom related is that the Byler fandom is just insanely annoying at times. like i love my mutuals and some of the theories and all but idk, the way we have so many stupid arguments abt small things (think this is just a problem with the entire ST fandom but i’ve not really interacted with the other sects closely enough to see those), the way alotta Bylers don’t just ship Byler bcz they like it/dislike Mlvn bcz they don’t + to us it doesn’t work but are absolutely obsessed with hating Mlvn to a stupid degree. i’ve seen alotta ppl (rightfully) clown on Mlvns for saying that all Bylers r ableist misogynists who hate El from the bottom of our hearts and specifically don’t think autistic/ND ppl can do anything and women are the devil or whatever but then turn around and say all Mlvns r homophobes who hate Will for being gay and hate Mike bcz they misunderstand his character and want him to be miserable or whatever as if that’s any better, and then there’s how so many ppl just tag any post they make as “byler”, ranging from yk, actual posts abt the ship to posts abt the fandom/nothing posts abt the cast to random unrelated ST posts that they idk don’t want those horrible evil mildew shippers finding to shit that’s entirely unrelated to Byler/ST (honest to god a few months ago i was scrolling the tag and had to block someone bcz they were clogging the tag with their random life updates) and yeah idk i’m not sure if this is exactly an unpopular opinion since we all talk a lot abt how toxic the fandom is but idk i feel like no one talks abt the over the top Mlvn hate and the annoying mistagging (at least from what i’ve seen) (also sorry this is kinda long TwT)
"...the Byler fandom is just insanely annoying." Full stop. Bylerblr gets on my nerves day in and day out, even though I made my best friends in that mess.
It's the way bylerblr starts shit and then plays victim for me. It's the vaguing people and then acting like they're being attacked when that person responds for me. IT'S THE TAGGING UNRELATED SHIT AS BYLER FOR ME!! YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!! And yeah tbh...the mileven hate does get Extensive at times. There's disliking a ship, and then there's devoting your time to antagonizing shippers...like a loser. Atp bylerblr's not much better than the milevens are. Bylerblr is just a different flavor.
The fandom in general is gross no matter where you go, and honestly I'm glad I've detached from it to work on my own analysis niche.
(Also please don't worry about it being long, I love rambling and ranting about shit like this because it annoys me to no fucking end.)
Send me unpopular opinions!

weirdly enough, gojo is like sasuke to me .-.
i don't mean personality wise, it's just a very personal thing where i would dislike sasuke because everyone and their mother would cream over him and write fanfics where... idk i just thought he was a douche yk (<- the reason why that didn't happen with naruto is because i had a childhood crush on him + literally the first scene i saw with sasuke was him trying to kill naruto so.. that wasn't a good meet cute for sauce gay and me yk) (<- <- the reason that didn't happen with kakashi (who also has that gojo effect thing imo when it comes to how the fandom thinks/interacts with his character) is bc i was 10 so i had the chance of not living the Kakashi Experience first hand)
and that's honestly the same thing with gojo, he irritates me so much somehow DHSHAD but also i think he's like sasuke to me in the way that, once i was "forced" to roleplay as sasuke (long story), i decided "well imma still be in character since i'm a GOOD roleplayer" yk? so i started thinking more and more about how he'd feel and think, his life etc, and that made me portray a sasuke that was accurate and well-liked (from what i gathered at least, and i really hope that was the case), but also that helped me separate him from the vision the fanworks i had consumed had made of him, idk if it's clear?
i mean if people wanna make sasuke ooc they should go for it, it just made me hate him as a character so that's just me LOL
and anyway i was thinking "hmmm i really wanna write a satosugu" when... tbf i don't really care about geto (he's interesting as a character but i don't care much about ANY jjk character tbh dshdhs except toge and maybe noritoshi), and honestly i just highly dislike gojo because of all the noise there is around him (Underrated Character Fan Behaviour 101 ik ik)
i just really like the dynamic and story of stsg, it's tragic lovers 101, especially with the last line gojo tells geto, that we don't hear but ykw i've read so many posts about it being "i love you" and how it's a curse/not a curse depending on the pov, it's driving me insane (/pos)
but yeah i was thinking i wanted to write a stsg and usually my fics dive more into the psychological aspect of things than just some light-hearted shit, and even if it's light hearted i need me some character analysis yk? and anyway that made me think "wait. that's basically what happened with sasuke. so... i don't hate gojo (i knew i didn't hate HIM tho), i just hate how the fandom loves him and i just wanna play with my new barbie on my own" LOL
tldr i'm a hater
LOL that’s funny to come to a realization that way!! Tbh the way that these popular characters are written is often time off-putting and will turn you off from them. I love Sasuke to bits but I don’t dare step into the fic tags lest I be subjected to toxic and abusive relationships 💀 I think Sasuke’s written a lot better in sns ship fic (tho maybe I’m just biased haha). I think I’d say the same for gojo tho I haven’t read a lot of reader insert fic I just see a lot of it in passing / hear about it from gojo-loving moots. Maybe for characters such as these it’s better to form your own opinion and not take into account the fandom perception of the character… like I love gojo but I don’t really interact with the greater gojo fans yk? Same with s*susaku oriented Sasuke fans, since they are always dead wrong about him 💀
I’m definitely very protective of Sasuke in my mind like. Only people who are right about him can play with the Sasuke doll. To everyone else he’s off limits. LOL

Can you do Nya for the doodle/ramble? :o
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nya!!
DISCLAIMER: sorry sorry sorry this is so dang late, I have been sitting on this essay for like 2 months and I feel really bad about it. I just had so many passionate thoughts about Nya until school and work and assignments meant I lost flow and I probably won’t finish it. Tbf I did write lots so Oop lol. I’m just gonna post it unfinished like this so take away what you will :)
Awww hell yeah! So in the last post of this series, I said that Cole is probably the best written character, but i think Nya is the most interesting, and Cole’s only higher because sometimes Nya falls into kinda sexist cliches sometimes. But for the most point Nya is such an inspiring character who goes through so much strife. Honestly I think that her writing is actually a really good commentary on modern day misogyny, which is unexpected since this is just a Lego show marketed to mainly boys, and even if it wasn’t, Nya’s arc hits so much harder than you’d expect. But either way, regardless of the societal analysis, Nya is generally a really strong character who gets a lot of development simply bc was more of a side character who basically fought her way into the plot.
So the main themes of Nya is her struggle with destiny, whether she has free will or choices or if she just has to do what other expect her to. Like so many of her arcs are her struggling against what other people have told her to be or what she tells her self she has to be.
First of all, her time as samurai x and how she initially kept it a secret. In s1, in like, the first episode, we see Nya training on the training course trying to beat Kai’s score, wishing she had a dragon, and generally trying to tag along with the guys despite not being included in their team. Maybe you could argue she always wanted to be a ninja, to prove that she could do that too. However it never really caught on (until much later), and she ended up abandoning that idea in favour of becoming something else; samurai x.
I’ve always thought it was weird that she kept samurai x a secret when there wasn’t really any consequence to it when everyone found out. I think that maybe she felt a little bitter about not being included with the ninja so she decided not to share in what she got up to. Also I bet she just kept it up because the guys’ annoyance at not knowing who she was, would’ve been actually hilarious. But also she may have kept it a secret because no one could tell her how to be if no one knew it was her. Samurai X was her way of having freedom and independency, and her way of proving that she was useful, most importantly, in her own way on her own. She wanted the power to make her own choice and in order to do so, she didn’t even risk letting other people in the know in case they took it from her.
Short mention of s2 but the scene where we see Nya get corrupted is actually so horrific and invasive but it completely fits Nya’s narrative of getting her choices taken away as she’s corrupted by the dark matter. Ooh, quick s2 rewrite concept but the dark matter doesn’t immediately make you evil, but it only builds upon already dark feelings present, and in Nya’s case its her struggle with being alone, presently the fact that she was captured and overall how she gets singled out for not being a ninja or how she has to work harder to be seen alongside everyone else. With both her and Kai, they both seem to equate their worth and right to be in the family with how much they can contribute, and Nya especially puts a lot of pressure on herself, to be just as good or even better than the other ninja.
Now s3. S3… is a mixed bag. Bc it’s notorious for having a god awful love triangle that arose out of nothing but then if you think hard about it, everything after the set up kinda makes sense. Jay and Nya have kinda a strained relationship, where if we view s1 and s2 skeptically, their feelings aren’t really justified further than “jay likes girls and Nya is girl” and “Nya happens to like the colour blue”. It feels very forced hetero 2011 writing because it kinda was, but at least s3 is consistent. If you’re generous and are invested in making the most of a Lego show’s writing, then you’ll be happy to know that all of that accidentally works really well. Because we can assume that jay and Nya were quite young and it’s very common for kids/teens to just get into relationships in only name, for the pure reasoning of “we are guy and girl who hang out sometimes” Nya and jay being in a loveless, one sided relationship where neither are on the same page is pretty realistic actually, and the show tells us that Nya isn’t as invested as jay is and how there seems to be a fundamental imbalance of affection between them. Whilst I hate that Nya changes her whole mind as soon as the computer tells her to, it kinda works in that its consistent with Nya’s incredibly surface level reasoning for attraction. Her mind set is basically: if she was told a guy liked her, then she’s supposed to like them back right? That’s just what you do! Compulsive romance is so real and it’s how I personally see Nya in s3. Also it links in either s3’s theme of relying too much on technology, with Nya being swayed because of it.
Now the actual love triangle links back in with Nya and choice. She’s forced to pick between Jay and Cole but even if she does pick one, she’ll let the other down, or they might not accept it. It looks like she has a choice but there are no good options. And when she feels like she’s fighting against the grain, just like when she gave up from being a ninja, she too retreats from the conflict, avoiding giving an answer that she knows wouldn’t be accepted. She just lets them duke it out until they’ve forgotten about her and any relationship she had or could’ve wanted. By not picking a side, both sides left her after s3 and she just accepts it.
…or maybe I’m looking into to it too much as a way of coping with awful love triangles.
Quick note about s4, bc Nya kinda just kicks ass that season and I honestly don’t have too much to say. She’s just very cool. I will say that’s it’s interesting that she stayed home with wu Lloyd etc when the rest of the team dispersed. You could say she again was left behind. She stayed rebuilding the bounty, which may have been in tribute to zane considering he found the bounty. You could say zane brought the family together and found them a home, so when he died, Nya tried to fix it by remaking their home. Im gonna make a separate post about this actually.
Okay s5 is where we really get going and tbh, this season should’ve been more officially Nya. Because she’s actually becoming a ninja. I think with Nya interpretations, people usually see Nya being a ninja as a bad thing, something that was again forced upon her, which is true. I’ll talk about this again when we get to crystalized. But idk if this is a hot take but I think ninja Nya is a good thing, if you interpret samurai x as being a last resort because she didn’t become a ninja. It’s her learning to not give up, to keep at it, which is how she unlocks her true potential. That she’s just as valuable, in fact, uniquely valuable on the team. Idk I think it’s nice if you look at samurai x being her giving up on trying to be a part of the ninja. Her arc of needing to be perfect at what she does, without allowing herself to be messy or vulnerable or confront what makes her weak because she always thought that if she was a ninja, she’d be the weak link, and confronting why she hadn’t become a ninja makes her vulnerable. And her facing that fear and realising she’s more than she gives herself credit for is so so so good. Nya actually has such a low self esteem and tbh you can’t blame her when it looks like she has to fight tooth and claw to be as good as everyone else, but I’d bet on her being the strongest ninja, in some ways stronger than the green ninja. It’s very fitting that she wears the green gi in s5’s finale, because when the ghosts realise she isn’t the green ninja, they’re actually more terrified. Because she is something more feared than the green ninja. The water ninja. One of the only elements that the fsm couldn’t control. She single handedly drowned the preeminent (and destroyed an 1/8 of the universe but shhh).
And then we get to s6, which is only really good because Nya. Because even when she figures out she’s super op, society hasn’t. We get the whole news stuff in the first episode where the ninja deal with their acquired fame (nice acknowledgment of the rest of the world tbh), and we’re highlighted of how, whilst Nya took down a literal eldritch monster in the last season, she’s still only known for the love triangle, and it feels a little meta because I bet that’s what a lot of fans knew her for too (and I say this because unfortunately 13 ye old me was that, but I’ve rewatched since). We see Nya having to face everyone else’s expectations of her and the media doesn’t see her as anything but the girl ninja and she’s just told to accept that. And even when she’s trying to go against the grain, the fact that she’s only doing it to prove or disprove someone else still means she’s technically still controlled by something else. This is how I interpret the (admittedly mess of) the romance plot. Nya has and does love Jay, but she’s scared of that being all there is to her, that doing what the media expects her to means giving in to it, and losing her sense of independence. She basically can’t do what she wants because she’s holding herself to standard in response to other standards placed on her. It’s like a form of toxic masculinity but for feminism, where women feel like they have to be tough and never vulnerable because they’re trying to fight against being defined by those traits of vulnerability. Nya and Dogshank in particular, have a very specific relationship, they’re on opposite sides but play exactly the same roles, women who fought against the grain and did what was not traditionally expected of them, but in they’re fight to do so they ended up sacrificing their own freedoms anyways (Nya stops herself from getting close to the others in her need to be independent, Dogshank traded her life to be Nadakhan’s pirate just so she could win at something once). And say what you will about s6 but Nya’s death scene will always be the saddest thing, because we truly see Nya just give up her life. She’s so resigned to her fate, finally giving up on changing it and tells Jay that she never wanted to be apart of their boys club anyways. The reference of the “boys’ club” comes up 3 other times in the show: when Nya reasons why she became samurai x - she felt excluded in the group, when Nya is corrupted with dark matter and the guys fight her - Kai quipping that the “club” just became boys only and when the love matcher machine in s3 describes Nya as an independent self confident young woman who refuses to be part of a boy’s club. The evolution of the use of the quote, going from the reason Nya felt excluded, to Nya being defined by it and lastly as an acceptance of her own death, sums up what I mean, Nya internalising that “othering” and just growing to accept it. Nya then says that she guesses it’s true, the greatest love stories end in tragedy, which I think shows how she’s been told and sold so many expectations of how she wouldn’t end up happy, and it further shows how she’s given up. And the resolution of the plot isn’t perfect but I actually do like how Jay essentially bent time and space to show her that it doesn’t have to be true. Metaphorically, Jay erasing the timeline feels like he’s erasing the proposed bad end Nya’s predicted of herself. S6 is definitely flawed but I do like the theme of inevitability and the defiance of that with Nya in particular.
~~~
Yeah sorry friends that’s where I stopped. But I’ll paste my little planning stage so you guys know what I would’ve started writing about?? Anyways Nya good!!
Intro- hell yeahhh - good writing altjough ppl don’t think so
- boys club - choices
- Samurai x inventing her own identity but in retaliation
- Water ninja - child of destiny
- S6 choosing her own fate - crystalise
- S11 powers significant + seabound
- Crystalised
- Tidbits such a cool narrative but like s567 could’ve been even cooler
Conc honestly I get emotional bc she’s actually so cool man
“ATTENTION BYLER/MILEVEN TUMBLR
me and @mike-queerler were talking abt how ppl keep tagging the ship theyre making anti-that ship content of and the conversation went to wanting to discuss stuff with the other ship w/o being disrespectful and came up with the idea for a tag for that.
the tag is #st m/b discourse and we havent fully discussed everything abt the tag (that should probably be a wider fandom discussion tbh not just one person from either ship) but what i was thinking was if u make a post talking abt idk byler/mileven proof or an analysis of one of the ships or yk stuff like that and u wanna invite a discussion from the other ship so ur not just in an echochamber but u dont wanna tag their ship cause thats disrespectful asf ud tag that (aswell as whatever ship ur talking positively abt/not talking negatively abt for lack of better words) and ud still do the whole censoring the name of the other ship and not tagging them to respect the ppl who just wanna enjoy their ship but for the ppl that want a discussion who might be scrolling through and/or following the tag they might see ur post and want to say smthn.
now if ur gonna use this tag/look through this tag i’m gonna ask that ur gonna be respectful to eachother and eachother’s ships. we want this to be a place for discussion so ppl who dont wanna live in an echochamber of their opinions but dont know how to do so respectfully otherwise can talk to ppl with different opinions or yk ppl who want their views challenged or whatever this is NOT for arguing on why “we’re sooooo obviously gonna be endgame and u guys r gonna end up broken up and heartbroken HA” or whatever (u wanna post that post it in the anti tag not this one) and no bigotry (homophobic, sexism, ableism, etc.) to either the characters or real people and yeah i hope this was worded ok. if ur confused abt smthn just ask and yeah pls use this tag on analysis posts that ud like a discussion in or polls or just posts asking for a discussion or yk anything like that :) also if u regularly post/rb byler/mileven content pls rb this/make ur own post abt it c:”
Now for my part: I’m all about sharing ideas and opinions and creating a safe fandom space. I know we’re in a dip right now in terms of fandom content (as we wait for Season Five), and at least for the mileven fandom, we’re not that active, but I’d love to kickstart something in a positive way. This back and forth is quite exhausting, and I don’t want it to get in the way of healthy fandom discourse. Let me know if you don’t want to be tagged in this. @purpleangelsele @flamingfalcon3 @claire-de-lune @pjo-worshipper @fricchead @crisperia @drukkaris-blog @reganx2 @thinkingaboutmileven @kand1corn @teafiend @dxncingwithastrxnger @truessences @rllybritrlly
Do you actually like Anakin? You’re so critical of him
hello there! you must be referring to my tags on this post!
before i begin what will certainly be a long (and personal?) answer, let me issue three blanket statements.
one: liking anakin doesn’t make you a bad person, sympathizing with him does not mean you’re a bad person, and frankly you don’t need to do all the critical analysis and real-world linkage i’m about to do under the read-more to like a character. you can just like them, because they’re pretty, or fun, or you want to make them slob on somebody’s knob. knobs are fun to slob on. that’s just a fact.
two: the post below is based solely in my experience as a black queer man in america, and should be treated solely as my personal interpretation of anakin’s character and star wars fandom, and not as a monolithic statement on behalf of all black people and people of color in this fandom. it’s annoying that i have to say that, but yeah.
three: later in this post i mention whiteness as it relates to fiction and fandom. whiteness theory is “the study of the structures that produce white privilege, the examination of what whiteness is when analyzed as a race, a culture, and a source of systemic racism, and the exploration of other social phenomena generated by the societal compositions, perceptions and group behaviors of white people” (wikipedia).  i am applying my academic background to my reading of anakin, and to my experience in a mostly-white fandom so far. this is not a condemnation of either.
now, to your actual question.
Do you actually like Anakin? You’re so critical of him
the short answer: yes, i do like anakin.
the long answer: yes, i do like anakin, because he is messy and complex and i love rolling around in the filthy mud that is his brain.
the longer answer: yes, i do like anakin, because i am critical of him — and every other character that i like.
liking a character, to me, has nothing to do with being on their side/thinking they’re hot/etcetera and everything to do with understanding how they work, and using that understanding to gain insight into them as a character, how they function in their narrative, what characters like them mean in pop culture and to their fans, and, by extension, in real life.
but that’s a general overview. you asked me about anakin, so let’s talk about anakin.
i like the fucker. because he is passionate, and powerful, and horrifically insecure, and clueless, and competent, and desperate. anakin as a character feels so much all the time in a very similar way to how i did as a child. i have a lot of sympathy for him, especially when he’s younger. i understand loss, and pain, and joy, and losing that joy, and feeling like the universe owes you something because of everything it’s taken. i do.
but beyond that basic level of liking him, i am fascinated by how absolutely fucked up anakin is, and how a lot of his fucked-upness is a one-to-one of most shitty white manchildren in real life. (you know who i’m talking about.)
what fascinates me about anakin is everything about him that i am not and do not agree with. anakin is an entitled white man (in space) who acts like entitled white men in real life. the jedi are not cops, they’re peace keepers and magical ombudsmen, but anakin sure as hell did not get that memo, and his behavior often mimics that of real life cops. he abuses power but does not see that as abuse, but rather as an extension of his entitlement to perceive right and wrong and mete out appropriate punishment even when his superiors and the Council do not agree with them, because anyone who does not agree with anakin is wrong.
to me, anakin is every white boy i went to school with who was nice and sweet and decent (except when you did something he didn’t like) (or when he repeated borderline racist commentary and jokes and when you got mad so he said “you’re too sensitive it’s just a joke”) (or who always sided with power and authority as long as it served him even if it fucked the rest of us over but when it didn’t he rebelled and insisted things weren’t fair) then ten years later he’s posting pro-jan 6 stuff on facebook. old (white) high school friends were quick to say “he wasn’t always like this,” “something changed,” “that isn’t the guy i knew,” while i sat there thinking, yes he was. he just got louder. he’s the same person and i’m not surprised he’s like this now. how are YOU surprised he is?
so my interest in anakin (and, by lesser extension, obi wan) is this: i want to understand the emotional thought process that turned a genuinely sweet little underprivileged boy into a self-absorbed vicious murderous fascist attack dog, and i want to understand the many layers of denial and favoritism and insecurity and exceptionalism and what the fuck else that allowed obi wan to be blind (willingly or otherwise) to anakin’s changes until they were too blatant to ignore.
because for me, as a black queer man, there is a lot to be gained from understanding the ways in which whiteness works even in fiction, both on the page and in the fanbase around these characters. looking at what george lucas meant for anakin to be, versus how he was received by his audience, versus how he is popularly interpolated by and within fanon, function for me as an inside look at the morphology of whiteness; specifically, the way whiteness is interpreted, dissected, retrofitted, and at times supported by (primarily) white american women in defense of white men. by way of example, i mean the way fandom instinctively pits mace windu against anakin as his boogeyman, or how anakin’s genocidal and murderous actions are often ignored/dismissed/removed from canon/or excused because he “feels bad about it after.”
now, to be clear, i am not saying anyone is wrong for not engaging with anakin’s character or the above topics the way i do. most people are in fandom as a means of escapism or as a means of playing a communal fantasy game of House with thousands of online strangers. most of fandom is here for Horny Adult Playtime and not, y’know, a breakdown of everything wrong with the world today and political failures and racism and fascism and whiteness (in space or otherwise); you’re here to look at pretty pictures of boys and girls and whoever and make them kiss and hang out with friends. i get it! i don’t watch a lot of movies that are Explicitly About Racism for this exact reason. but because of who i am, i can’t help to notice patterns like these whether its in real life, fantasy, or fandom, and in noticing them i wind up analyzing them, which has honestly become kind of entertaining as well as informative for me. other people without my life experiences aren’t going to see anakin or star wars or any media the same way. you aren’t wrong for that. just like how i am not wrong for interpreting media through my experience. our lives are filters. we’re all going to see and focus on different parts of the same things as a result. for me, i tend to see how fucked up characters are and engage with the hows and whys of that. for other people, they see a pretty boy and want to see him kiss another pretty boy. that’s cool too. none of this matters. it’s all just make believe.
so, tl;dr recap: being critical of a character does not mean i do not like or appreciate them. highlighting a character’s flaws and failures is not “being mean” to them (as some of my other, unanswered anons have suggested). i personally prefer to engage with characters, warts and all.
if that is uncomfortable for you, and you do not want to see me talk about anakin (or others) being lovable and awful and well-meaning and racist, i invite you to reflect privately on why that is, then block the tags “[character] meta”, and/or unfollow me.
i’ll be sad to see you go, but i understand. your dashboard is your space to cultivate, just as mine is, and you’re not obligated to look at, read, or engage with anything that upsets you. again: none of this matters. this is all pretend.
to conclude, i hope i answered your question and then some.
and hey, whatever you choose to do, have fun out there!
Oh, hi! Didn’t see you there.
==
The name’s AC and I run this little convenience store of productions at the edge of the universe called ACSTATION. And yeah, as you can tell, at this point I’m pretty much your friendly-neighborhood enthusiast of basically anything 2000s - 2010s (or something in-between or related idk).
But aside from that, those productions in question have animations, general art / fanart, edits, memes, music, comics, OCs, etc. (at least in the near future hopefully) and they’re made primarily on the ibisPaint X, FlipaClip and GarageBand apps on iPhone.
==
Specifically for this site we also have:
= TAGS* (* - under construction) =
• "ac talks with you" 🎙️ - whenever I answer people's questions when they press the button by the top of this blog page that reads "i'm feeling curious :)" or just document the things that I like or the bits that happen throughout my daily life for fun or so... and maybe a peek behind the scenes of some art stuff I might be at right now... Again, for funsies. :)
• “ac art” 🎨- whenever I post art or animations featuring my own characters and some other random stuff… maybe some behind the scenes too if we’re lucky
• “ac analysis” 🤓 - when I geek out and ramble on in excruciating detail about a certain thing I hold dear to my heart or so, I guess this might be what the very first tag above is for in some cases but whatevs, just for organization sakes y’know?
==
Anyway, that’s all there is to it for now. Thanks for stopping by and have a nice day! :)
In Defence Of V-Force Takao/Tyson
I’m finally starting this and it’s probably my 50th V-Force post because lord- I do appreciate the season as much as G-Revolution. Season 1 doesn’t even come in the same light because it stands above both of them.
Thanks @meowstix for being in support of this character and my analysis.
So I have already talked about my opinions on Takao/Tyson in V-Force in the post below. I am going to add on to it now. Do read the following posts before you carry on.
All I hear about Takao in V-Force is: asshole, 0 character development, total dick, belittles his teammates, etc. Honestly, you’re not wrong. He can be like that at times. I do understand if you hate him, it’s your opinion and I have no right to object it. But let me just maybe explain what I personally think of it.
So I once read that Takao’s attitude/cockiness mainly arises due to his off-screen events post season 1, which in my opinion can be considered a very valid point (unfortunately I don’t remember who said it. Please do reach out to me so I can tag you). Such events can only lead to him being adored and pampered by his fanbase which explains why he’s so on about ‘I’m just too good, I’m the champ.’ It is obviously hated a lot by people but let’s be honest- Takao handled his first few losses so well, much better than he did in G-Revolution. He didn’t win a single match until the end of episode 4 and lost to Ozuma twice in front of his hometown, the people of which really looked upon and adored him. I feel terrible when I realize that he wasn’t even expressing how he felt about it and pulled it off with a smile. Kenny/Kyouju mentioned ‘he feels horrible about this, don’t talk about his loss in front of his him’ to his classmates. Hiromi used this against him and it really upset him, but watch that scene. My boy handled it like a pro.
In the English version of episode 3 when Tyson was guzzling his lunch down his throat, Kenny tells him that he’s glad that the losses aren’t affecting his appetite, to which Tyson responds, ‘Food has incredible healing qualities’ which once again says that yeah, he really was hiding how he felt. I actually felt so sorry for him. Takao also handled kids like Zeo and Daichi (in the movie) who were incredulously clingy so much better in comparison to other seasons. This brings me to conclude my first point: Takao/Tyson handled situations like these very well in this season.
I feel like Takao’s way of thinking differed vastly from his teammates, causing him to often clash with them. No one ever bothered listening to his point of view. Sure, he once wanted to cheat his way through the match with the PsyKicks, but it was only to protect their bit beasts. He knew it was wrong, he said so himself, but he really was panicking his ass off and took up unjust methods to cover it up. The pressure of facing strong enemies who were big threats to him started to place him in an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty. When his teammates bashed him for planning on cheating, he says ‘you have no idea what I’ve had to feel to get to this point’ (Japanese version).
Tumblr media
His personality got much better after episode 20. He calmed down a lot and began to show his soft side to the audience. So yes, there was character development for sure.
One of my favourite things about him in this season is his adorable bond with dragoon/seiryu.
Tumblr media
A good build up for G-Revolution includes the losses Takao faced in this season:
1. He lost Kane: I feel like V-Force Takao always needed a serene and sweet person like Kane to lighten up his frustrated mood. His teammates are often as loud and grumpy as him and he cannot stand that. Takao’s meeting with Kane lightened up his day so much that he felt the need to build an immediate and positive perception about him, which is probably why he was so devastated when he found out that he is a part of the PsyKicks.
2. He lost Zeo: Zeo was introduced as an amiable boy who quickly built a strong bond with his fan Takao but turned his back as quickly, completely leaving Takao in shock and sadness. Heck, Takao was speechless and at a loss of words often when he came across him.
In both the cases, Takao was in a loop of trust issues.
This build-up for G-Revolution talks about the abandonment issues he faced in the season. Also, I’m not quite sure on the details but didn’t he lose Kyouju to the PsyKicks in the manga? Please fill me up on it.
Ultimately, I love him
how do you deal with hate? like from what I understand, you posted your first "controversial" post knowing that people might hate you for it, and you did so anyways. even tho it might have felt like you were the only one who believed those things at the time. where do you get the confidence? cause honestly that was such a slay.
Like, obvi we all have our own opinions and I don't agree with everything you said but the confidence you had.. grrrr i like it so much 💗💗 i love it when people are real with their opinions.
okay ty, im sorry for rambling, gonna stop here now 😭😭
I really want to play it cool and say something like “I just don’t care what people think of me,” but honestly? Yeah I was terrified of posting my first BSD-related post.
I had been enjoying the BSD fandom from afar for about a year before posting anything about it. I’ve always had this personal pet peeve when (fictional or real) bullies get a free pass to be assholes when they’re conventionally attractive, but that applies to all fandoms, not just BSD and not just Dazai.
(Note that that’s not a moral stance, there’s nothing wrong with liking a morally grey character, and there’s nothing wrong with finding a bad (fictional or real) person to be physically attractive. This pet peeve of mine stems more from how (fictional) bullies who aren’t attractive are seen as the biggest evil unleashed upon the world, while fictional bullies who are attractive are seen as The Ideal Boyfriend)
One day I saw a post pointing out one of the things Dazai did that bothered me, and I really wanted to add to it via reblog, but I was concerned I’d derail the original post, so I screenshot it and wrote a whole follow-up rant.
Then I saved that post in my drafts for three days.
I posted something vague like “I really want to talk about this one character from this one fandom, but the fandom is very aggressive and they’d burn me at the stake if I said anything too controversial”
I don’t think I intended to explicitly tag it with anything searchable, but I must have said something like “#yeah this is about bsd those guys are scary”— apparently that counts as tagging it #bsd by tumblr’s standards, and someone from the bsd fandom (who I’m now mutuals with) responded with something like “most of us are nice! We wanna hear what you have to say!!”
That was enough motivation for me to get that post out of drafts, and even then I didn’t post it immediately. I scheduled it to post for a time when I wasn’t home, so that if there’d be backlash I wouldn’t have to witness it live and I could just delete the post later.
Not only was there no backlash, but hardly anyone saw the post. Iirc it got between 3-5 notes. That was what gave me the confidence to continue talking about my (admittedly controversial) fandom opinions.
My main blog is primarily a Shakespeare/Classic Lit blog, and the online fandom for those things encourages controversial opinions (as opposed to the standard anime blog, where it seems like posting controversy is a taboo). So once I had the confidence to interact with an anime fandom in the first place, it wasn’t too hard to post my controversial opinions, because that’s the internet culture I’m more used to.
As for how I deal with the hate, you’ll be glad to know there’s only one person on this entire site who sends (bsd-related) hate. If you’ve received any hate, it’s from her. So while I have received hate messages (everything ranging from “your blog sucks” to graphic suicide bate and murder threats), knowing it’s all from the same person makes it all pretty meaningless. Everyone else on tumblr just blocks what they don’t want to see, either by blocking blogs they’d like to avoid or by blocking tags for subjects that annoy them.
Since I tag anything that speaks of Dazai in a negative way as “#anti Dazai,” I don’t often run into people who don’t want to see negative character analysis who’ve discovered my posts accidentally.
If you want to post about something, go right ahead! The people who enjoy the content you make will follow you, and the people who don’t will block you, and everyone will curate their own tumblr experience to make this site something we can all enjoy. Admittedly if the fandom you’d like to post to is bsd, you WILL get harassed by that one person, but everyone else in this fandom has gotten harassed by her too. We mostly just ignore her at this point.
Posting controversial opinions to fandom spaces can be scary, but if you have something you’d like to post, go for it! I personally would recommend starting a side blog for it, that way if things really do get out of hand you could delete it easily without losing your tumblr account. But the most likely outcome is that it wouldn’t gain enough traction for anyone to be overly bothered by it. Controversial things are more often ignored than hated on.
(For context, I’m referring to this blog too! I’m a tiny little blog. So please don’t interpret that as some veiled insult, I’m in this group of “tiny controversial fandom blog” too)
Anyway. Best of luck to you!! And remember, the point of posting things is to have fun! If it’s causing more stress than enjoyment, there’s no shame in taking a break or logging off for a bit. I’ve taken multiple breaks, and I only post to the Anti-Dazai Series when I enjoy what I’m posting.
[Also. I absolutely love controversial fandom opinions, especially if they’re well written. It doesn’t matter to me whether or not I agree, so long as it’s a cool or original take on the source material. So if you wanna dm me, I’ll definitely follow you and your blog full of all your hottest takes]
here im once again but this time really late jsdfjksdkjfsdjkf, thoughts on whats going on?
This answer is late too, ssoorrrryy
I have created the tag! Here’s the tag for all my reactions and analysis to this webtoon.
Official English translation (the free chapters anyway) here
It seems I have skipped a week so this would be for both Chapter 10 and 11.
Edward’s eyes glow blue this time around even though they glowed red/orange when he used Eagle Vision in a previous chapter. I’m gonna go on a limb and say ‘artistic freedom’ or something. I’m still going for the ‘Eagle Vision makes eyes glow gold’ because it’s me.
Tumblr media
The infiltration mission was okay. The coin distraction though…
Tumblr media
……………
Coin throws in AC has always been more on the side of “free money!” and used to get civilians to turn into human obstacles for guards.
Coin distraction is more of this dude’s thing:
Tumblr media
And…
I don’t understand why they went for that route? Edward has sleeping darts. And, yeah, okay, maybe he doesn’t have it with him but that only makes me go “Why not?”. Edward had always struck me as the type to use whatever is at hand so deliberately leaving his darts and his rope dart? It feels like… it’s a character development that makes him feel dumber than he was before. Assassins used whatever tools are available in their arsenal so, not using or forgetting their tools? Looks bad on Edward’s part.
By the way, Black Flag had whistle so Edward could have whistled instead. Would it have gotten the other guards’ attention? Absolutely. But it would have been more in line with what we know of Edward’s skill sets.
(Does that mean Edward couldn’t have done the coin thing? No. He totally could. It’s just… a rock distraction would be better in my eyes because coin throwing distraction skill is such a known game mechanic of Hitman that it's pretty much a core of the games' identity by now. Maybe this was meant to be a reference to Hitman or something, but I kinda wonder if the authors forgot that coin throwing distraction is not an Assassin’s Creed thing?)
By the way, this isn’t surprising that it’s a full blast musket fire but the safer setup is to have two or three ‘groups’.
Tumblr media
The idea is: one group fires then the other group fires while the first group fires. That way, there’s a shorter gap between firing. (This is officially called Volley Fire and it’s quite common)
Just to be clear that I’m not criticizing the authors’ decision to not use volley fire. AC games usually only have one line of musket fire too (ex: AC3) so that might have been a reference to that. Or this was created to show that the shinobis are a real danger that don’t even flinch in the line of fire.
… Or… Oda Nobunaga used volley fire so the Shimazu clan would have an idea that the moment the musket fires and they survive, they win.
.
.
Okay, let’s talk about Edward using a katana.
Tumblr media
Siiggghhh, I didn’t know I was going to talk about this but here we are.
The action is pretty good.
The choice to give Edward a katana makes me go “why???”
And then there’s Edward’s actual stance when using a katana.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He uses it quite well.
But he uses it like he knows how to use a katana in general which feels weird?
Could he have learned it when he was a pirate? Sure but we never got any indication of that.
Also, his use of the katana is too different from how he uses a single sword in Black Flag. His 'idle' stances themselves are not good for katanas and you would think that Edward would use the katana like his usual sword-stance for single sword but no. He uses it like he knows how to use a katana from the very beginning.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I just… I don’t understand why he has to have a katana for this chapter…
Dude, his usual sword is right there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'll believe it more if he had been trying to dual-wield his usual sword and the katana.
Although, I've seen some frames where the sword disappeared like these two...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But seriously, why make Edward use a katana when there's no prior knowledge that he knows how to use the katana?
Rule of cool?
Reeeaaalllyyy???
Putting that aside…
Shimazu Saito isn’t in the Shimazu Clan wiki so he’s most probably created specifically for this one. I do wonder what the kanjis of his name is because if his ‘Sai’ is 西, that could also be read as ‘Sei’ which might add some kind of connection to ‘Shimazu’ Sei.
Also…
Tumblr media
This might be a POE, probably a Sword of Eden, unless that shonen-manga aura thing is some kind of artist interpretation to show how deadly he is. It looks like an odachi to me and my first idea might be the odachi that would later be known as Haja-no-Ontachi.
This would mean that the Shimazu Clan has a Sword of Eden and I feel like the Templars wouldn't use this willy-nilly so this makes me lean further to the whole 'these Shimazu enemies are rogue 'Templars' that have left the Order and the Shimazu clan for some reason'
Sidebar: I still think this could be a stealth promotion for AC Red but there's also the possibility that this was created to drum up some interest to play/replay Black Flag especially with the rumors of a Black Flag remake in the works and the rumors that they would be headed by Ubisoft Singapore that was developing Skull and Bones. If it did... this might end with Noa Kim being saved by the Assassins who tell him to relive Edward Kenway's older memories because there's 'something' hidden there and the remake will change the modern day setting to Noa Kim instead of Black Flag's Noob.
Which... I don't really support? Because (1) AC1 deserves a remake more (although I am worried that Ubisoft will fuck that up) as Black Flag still holds up well and is more accessible than AC1 and (2) Noob's modern day setting in Abstergo Entertainment was pretty fun imho and it would be funny if the remake's Abstergo Entertainment looks a lot like Ubisoft Quebec's offices.
