With Mother's Day almost here, I'm picturing a scenario where the Harbinger, Shian, and one of the LIs out and about in a rare domestic family type moment. The Harbinger overhears a couple of people talking while checking them out, but they immediately stop talking when they notice Shian.

Cue the Harbinger pulling aside the LI to ask

"I'm not really up to date with modern phrases and terms but I keep overhearing people calling me a MILF/DILF/PILF? What does that mean and should I be concerned about Shian hearing it?"

Asol: You also got called that too? Strange. Asol doesn't know the meaning either. Recently, he has overheard a few of the new trainees and members of the Order calling him a 'DILF'. Hi. Okay. I am about to talk about Shian for a really long time because I have thoughts. And @generaltrashshecox reminded me of them by talking about one of the huge draws to shian, which is that they are not the obvious other half to each other and yet they choose each other anyway. I love that aspect of it, but I'm not talking about that here.

A comparison a million people have made is Ian and Anthony to Shayne and Damien. Shayne as Ian 2.0 and Damien as Anthony 2.0. The idea that Ian and Shayne are the same is what really fascinates me about Shian, because they so are, and they so aren't.

Let's look at that on the most surface level. Ian is the face of Old Smosh and Shayne is the face of New Smosh. They both have carried the company and been the face of it. They both very much are Smosh in some people's eyes. When some people think Smosh, all they picture is Ian; when other people think of it, they just think of Shayne. They both very much have the weigh of this brand and entertainment enterprise on their shoulders. If you want a great case study/exploration of that, please read "drive it like you stole it". Talking to @furry-jackson about that fic is really where all of my Shian thoughts came from. Also God can she fucking write. Everyone should read everything he's written ever.

But. I want to take it a step beyond that. Because yes... the brand has both been on them... but not in the same way. Ian created Smosh with Anthony. Ian is attached to Smosh. We all know that when Anthony left, he asked Ian to come with him and Ian refused to leave this thing they created behind. Ian was the one who saved Smosh when Defy collapsed. Ian was the president of Smosh under Mythical; he's now the co-owner.

Shayne? Shayne is just talent. Well, talent, and a director, and presumably an unofficial writer/producer... but like... he's not in leadership. He has no stake in the company. One thing I think about so much is a single line from this video by Swell Entertainment about being on Reddit Stories. She talks about having a conversation with Shayne about her life as a self-employed YouTuber, and Shayne said he could never do that and he's so glad that working at Smosh means he can do YouTube as a 9-5. Most people with 9-5s are not that invested in them, you know? I mean clearly Shayne cares about Smosh way more than most people care about their jobs, but still... he's just an employee. He does not have the deep-seated ties to it that Ian does. He didn't create it. It's not his. He's just one part of a greater whole.

That's what really fascinates me about Shayne and Ian as a dynamic. Because yes. They are similar in so many ways. They're both very extroverted and yet reserved at the same time in interesting ways. They're figureheads of the company. They're leaders. And there is just a general simpatico vibe between them that I can't quite describe, but you feel it and you can tell that while they're cut from different cloth, they've been sewn into the same pattern. Their general vibes, for all they are different from each other, are also very much the same. But the one key difference between them is that weight. Shayne is fundamentally freer than Ian will ever be, because he did not create the brand, he does not own it, and he's never been more than a really prominent employee.

I've never actually seen anyone explore that. I think the closest I've seen to capturing it was the way @casblueeye wrote Shayne in The Kintsugi Kid. Shayne is a stay-at-home dad in that, and I do think that speaks to the fact that in a lot of ways, he is just along for the ride. He's happy in the role he's fallen into, even if that's not the most important one. I really haven't seen other fic writers capture that side of him that isn't ambitious but is instead just happy with where he is in life right now. I love it, and I think about it so much, and I'd love to see other people write Shayne the way that they did. But that's not a shian fic. I haven't seen anyone do it with Shian.

I am sure I'll eventually find a story beat where I can explore that, but right now I just have not found a shian premise for myself. I've got the dynamic, but there's no actual plot in my head. So since I have nothing to write with it, instead I am screaming about it on here so the rest of you can share my brainworms.

adjusting to a fandom with a whole different world of shipping is amazing, but a very big shift.

the only fandoms i’ve really been into as heavily as smosh have been mcr (emo trinity, but mainly mcr) and dnp. those two have their primary, obvious ships with years and years of headcanons, fics, art, you name it.

with smosh, yes ianthony has a wide range of content to peruse, it’s been a ship for a very long time and it’s almost too much to keep up with, (i’m trying to keep up) but it’s new for me to have so many ships to feel for (which is not bad, just new). ik the newest pit theater will most likely have ianthony, shaymien, spommy and maybe amangela…but what about all of the little rarepair niche ships i’ve seen on this site, i wonder if they know??? like it makes sense, and i have absolutely no judgement towards rarepair shippers, but it’s new for me.

shamanda, antmien, shaynse, spourtney, damangela, shrevor, shian, shanthony, chanthony, courtgela, kimney, then whatever the names are for courtney/arasha, amanda/ian, and sooo many more. this is crazy and i love it. you guys make content so fast and no one is safe /pos

but also, even though my main smosh ship is shaymien, which is not /technically/ a rarepair, comparing that ship to phan is CRAZY and i feel so spoiled. (for context: shaymien has 467 works on ao3, phan has almost eighteen thousand ?!?)

my phannie ass starting to ship shaymien is like. wait. what do you mean there’s barely any chaptered fics out there, let alone many, many chapters worth (i mean like 25 or more) what do you mean there’s not an au for every career or trope under the sun. what do you mean there’s not a fic for every kink in the world. what do you mean there’s not a fic for every video, instagram post, tiktok or tweet. what do you mean there’s no The Fic for this pairing, whether it’s actually good or not but it’s so well known the person/people the characters are based off of somehow Know (ex. milk fic for panic/smosh. heart rate of a mouse for panic. skin fic for phan but also like the well known, actually good fan favorites like a match and a fuse, l’histoire française, bluebird, etc. a splitting of the mind for mcr) what do you mean there’s no ‘how did we end up with a baby’, no song fics for every song loosely connected to this pairing, no gender swap au, and SO MANY MORE. THIS IS WILD.

With the COVID numbers slowly rising again (unfortunately), that's got me thinking of a question I wanted to ask...

If COVID took place in the HypMic universe, how would your OC's handle it? Would they slowly go insane from being trapped indoors? Would they develop an unhealthy drinking/smoking habit? Or would they be perfectly fine?

Anika loves human interaction and she cares a great deal for her clients. So it does suck to have to move on to doing zoom meetings, even if they’re more difficult to do through an interpreter. (Yes, hypnosis can work over the phone). But she’s a positive one and she can make things work during her stay at home. She worries for others, but she herself has no issues.

Nothing much changes for Shian. There’s still so much money to lose to court for not catching her fugitives and they have to appear in court regardless, so the laws of social distancing or self isolation don’t exactly apply to her, a bail bondsman and bounty hunter.

You think anything changes for Makina? This person who would be stuck on their computer all day long if it weren’t for school?

the named Blue-eyes white dragons who appear in one or more of my Yugioh fanfic "Raise the Sun"

the big, white one, doesn't actually have a name but more of a title. they are called "Child of Kisara". yes, in my fic, Kisara has a dragon child. It's complicated. anyway, Child of Kisara is the ancestor to all the other Blue-Eyes white dragon. you have to read my fic "When we were young" to figure out that work.

The second biggest one is Hikari and is seen as Seto Kaiba's main dragon. The sex is female but it gendered as They/Them. Hikari looks more like an Ultimate dragon, but they are still a normal Blue-eyes. Hikari is the parent to the three smaller ones on the image. The one sleeping beside Hikari is Soul and is the only of the dragons who are named by Seto(the three others are named by Mokuba) and he is also sometimes nicknamed "the Mutou dragon" because he show a lot of affection to Yugi and his family and he is a massive troublemaker around Seto.

the two last are the identical twins Shiro and Shian. Shiro is the one to the left and Shian is the one to the right. they are pretty neutral around anybody mostly just seeing hanging around.

Lbr Thuban is known as a Harbinger for a reason. Yes she can be charming and likes to dress elegantly but she's still a beastly eldritch being of blood and chaos. The fact that the scientists that resurrected Thuban thought putting her heart in a child homunculus likes Shian would be a good idea to keep her in check?!

For such educated folks Amaryllis and the others woefully under estimate Thuban for not considering the possibility of her imprinting on Shian and going full on Mama bear.

I did greatly enjoy the Shian ask!! All the gremlins thank you for baby content.

This situation we would assume that the MC is in an aunt/uncle/cousin relationship with Dawn. It could also happen when romancing M, the former would be more neutral to this ask!

She’s confused when the MC calls her ‘my baby’ to a merchant in the town square. The MCs tone was so confident and the merchant looked so excited when they had gestured down at her.

She felt…shy. She had hid behind your leg, peering up at the beaming merchant.

As the MC and Dawn walk away from the merchant. Her eyebrows pulled together and lips pressed into a thin line, her mind would race. Why did you call her that? She knows what the word baby means.

She figures it means infant or child. Those around the village have recently begun to call her that teasingly. As to make fun of her age. But the MC didn’t seem to be joking when they called her ‘baby’.

No, the MC had claimed her by calling her their baby. But…why?

“Mc?”

“Yes, sweetheart?”

“Why did you call me your baby?” She asks the MC, who lets out an airy laugh and ruffles the top of her head a bit. Dawn yelps and fixes her hair quickly while scowling up at the MC. Her face softened when she saw a warm expression on your face. Making her confusion grow.

“Because you are my baby.” They grin, lightly tapping her nose. She squints up at them, “but we are not blood? I don’t understand.” The MCs face seemed to crumble a bit as the warm expression turned into an almost sad one. Dawn lets them take her hands as they take a knee in front of her. Smiling a bit as they did so.

“It doesn’t matter if we aren’t blood, honey. I love you like you’re my own and that’s all that matters.”

Oh.

Oh. Now she understands.

They love her like she is their own daughter.

Her chin wobbles and her eyes cloud up a bit. She sees the MC's face fall for a quick moment before she throws herself into their arms. Wrapping her arms tightly around their neck as she sobs into them. “Oh sweetheart, it’s okay. I’ve got you, it’s okay.”

Dawn felt so much. She felt happy and excited. Only her parent had ever openly cared about her like this and having someone, especially the MC care for her like this; like a daughter. She hides her face in the MCs neck. Who scopes her up, using their arm to support her while the other ran up and down her back.

As the MC carried her back to what she assumed was their shop, she thinks.

What should she call the MC now? Should she call them something different? What would her parent think if she called the MC something else? Would they feel bad if she did?

She decides most of those questions should be stored away while the rest she should just ask now. As she makes that realization, MC enters their shop. She leans back a bit with a determined expression on her face as the MC looks at her.

“Should I call you something different?”

“What do you mean..?”

“Should I call you my parent since you called me your baby?”

“….. let's talk to M first. Just in case, okay?”

“M’kay…can we get some sweets?”

“Of course, sweetheart. Whatever you want.”

"Like Keiko, I'm not entirely sure that hypnotism is real, but I'm willing to give this woman the benefit of a doubt. I've seen what happens when people allow themselves to fall under the influence of peer pressure or simple suggestion. Hypnotism works pretty much the same way. Only difference is that you're in a trance, and aren't fully aware of what it is that you are doing. If someone asked me if I wanted to volunteer, I'd probably say 'yes', just to see if it'd work or not."
