Summary:

Blake had grown up with Yang, they'd been friends since they were children. She watched exactly how war changed Yang, changed herself, to the point they couldn't live among civilians.

The country says they care about veterans, they say how they fought for their freedom, but Blake knows it's all bullshit. They're used as tokens in political arguments they're not even part of. The government barely, if at all funds the VA, leaves them stuck with the wounds of war. Both mental and physical. The worst part is that they hadn't even bought into that patriotic bullshit, they'd done it to get a free ride to college. One tour and they'd be done, there wasn't even any war at the time. They were just a bunch of teenagers hanging out, that's all it was supposed to be. But war is hell, war never gives you a heads up.
