Made a sweet Magneto for a commission! It's the X-Men 97 version, brand new costume, and you get to see all that hair of his. I thoroughly enjoyed doing this! My favorite part of this was lighting it, but I loved the whole process!
I still have one commission slot open on my ko-fi before I close down until June! If you're interested, grab it while you can! https://ko-fi.com/jadebrightwind/commissions

Finally watching X-men '97. Why is Morph turning into Sabertooth in order to get Wolverine's attention the hottest thing I've seen in the series? Also Magneto is serving cunt and I'm here for it.

Magneto as a character means a lot to me. He's the first Jewish character I saw as a kid who fought back, who was able to defend himself, who was a complicated character and allowed to be human. Magneto's Jewishness is intrinsic to his character, in a sense he's been able to fulfill the fantasy many Jews dream of- being able to have the power to defend ourselves and our people, and take revenge on those who harmed us.
Revenge is not technically a Jewish value, we're actually commanded not to seek revenge. However, justice is a very Jewish value. I think what makes Magneto's character so compelling is that he is a character who takes justice into his own hands, and he blurs the lines between revenge and justice. He's a complicated character, and often Marvel fans who aren't Jewish have a hard time understanding his motivations.
But to me and many other Jews, Magneto is so meaningful. He's brazenly Jewish and unapologetic. He's imperfect, but I think a Jew doesn't need to be perfect to be deserving of compassion.
I could talk a lot about the importance of metal in Judaism, about the spiritual and cultural significance of it. There are many different kinds of metal described in the Tanakh alone, and then there are the mystical attributions to metal. Metalsmithing is also a part of Jewish history and culture. In fact, Jews introduced many metalworking techniques to the gentile world. Magneto as a metal-bender is tied to his Jewishness.
Every part of Magneto's character is inseperable from his Jewishness.
And that's why he's so meaningful to me.

I think the funniest way my father has ever explained the difference between the ideology and methods of Professor X/Charles and Magneto/Erik (he got me into X-men) was this:
"Professor X is like the MLK Jr. of mutants and Magneto is like the Malcolm X of mutants."
And while it is a very watered down, simplified analogy with a bit of flaw to it, damn if it didn't get the point across to me when I was 11.
