RP Meme from "Chapter Two: Between the Cracks" in the Bone Gnawers book from "Werewolf: The Apocalypse" Part 2 of 2
"We're screwed."
"Maybe they’ve seen the pure evil that’s waiting to rise up and consume us all."
"Why do we let them suffer like that?"
"Why don’t we just kill them and put them out of their misery?"
"If you’re willing to take the scenic route, I’m happy to tag along with you for a while."
"Long-distance traveling also results in some odd friendships and temporary alliances."
"They’re poor, and they’re proud, and they’re horribly inbred."
"Here in the city, we’ve got culture and civilization."
"Cityfolk think they know everything."
"The fads in the cities come and go."
"My education comes from survival in the wilderness, not that crap on the teevee."
"I can survive without a cell phone, a supermarket, or a dumpster."
"I hunt what I eat and stand by my family."
"Marriage with outsiders is accordingly discouraged."
"I ain’t hiding. I’m waiting. Waiting for the time to strike."
"Hunger drives sane people to desperation."
"Why risk your life in a straight-up fight when the fate of the world is on the line?"
"Werewolves are legendary because of their feral instincts
and shocking acts of violence."
"The names of heroes are remembered; the names of sidekicks, outsiders, and peasants are not."
"Only a few have the courage to stand up and oppose such prejudice."
"They have refused to attend our gatherings."
"They are born innocents, and yet they suffer abuse throughout their lives."
"Many aren’t terribly open (or open-minded) about sex, preferring to keep their liaisons furtive and transient."
"Survival often depends on choosing your battles carefully."
"Don’t stir up trouble in someone else’s home."
"We will see what happens when your throat is in my teeth."
"Don’t speak to me of cowardice when you won’t face me in a fair fight."
"When survival is on the line, there’s no such thing as honor."
"If your opponent is groveling on the ground, it’s fair game to break a few ribs with your steel-toed boots."
"Is it really respect these creatures display?"
"You feel our expressions of submission are insincere?"
"We have submitted in more ways than you can understand; submitted to shame, submitted to scorn, and submitted to prejudice."
"Forgive us if we aren’t willing to let you kick us more when we’re down on all fours."
"If the food a starving man gave you wasn’t good enough, I really have nothing to say in response."
"Do not forget; When our brothers and sisters come to us for help, we help them."
"Someone who cannot survive on his own is a liability to others."
"It is a sad fact of life that people die on the street every day, slowly killed by exhaustion, starvation, inclement weather, hopelessness or loneliness."
"Only a tyrant refuses to listen to the ideas of his lessers."
"It is the custom of tyrannical rulers to enforce continual states of war, using them as an excuse to persecute those who would not support their rule."
"These ladies don’t take crap from anyone."
"Damn uppity women."
"Hey, I live off garbage, but you don’t hear me complaining."
"Fuck ’em. And if you know me, you know I mean that literally."
"We don’t need their help, or their pity."
"Mercy for the weak and downtrodden is one thing. Mercy towards your enemies is another thing entirely. It’s called ‘treason."
"I prefer when they stand up front and I hide in the back.”
"You expect me to say we should be all buddy-buddy with these guys?"
"They’ve got money and power, so we should get all cozy with them, huh?"
"What? It's a job!"
"I'm sick of forests."
"Time to move to the city, eh?"
"They use us, and we use them. They just don’t realize it."
"Hey, I may be a rat, but I ain’t stupid."
"Yes, sir. No, sir. Whatever you say, sir."
"The time to strike is now."
"I'd rather stay here in my cardboard box, if you don’t mind. Mmmm. Nice, safe cardboard."
"We aren’t all that different."
"We stick up for underdogs, and fight to defend them."
"Sounds like we have some common interests, right?"
"Get over it!"
"It's ancient history!"
"Here's a good strategy for survival; avoid anything that
can kill you."
"Our survival depends upon their destruction."
"Stick close by me and don’t say a damn thing. Just keep that gun drawn."
"That’s what street magic is all about; making the best of what you have."
"Best to play it safe. Don’t summon up trouble you can’t put down."
"Yes, I'm an idiot."
"I know what the world is really like. It sucks."
"I won’t make the same mistake again."
"Hey, you want to see the scar?"
"I mean, who really expects to see a giant shapechanging dinosaur in a place like Chicago or Manhattan, right?"
"Thanks for the ride! This is where I get off."
"It’s like someone has clogged all the toilets of the city, and hideous vampires are creeping up back into the streets again in numbers never seen before."
"Life isn't always so serious."
"Less dangerous hazards include rebellious ghouls, hitchhiking wraiths, and straight-up psychotic human predators."

Father cleans up act, Nora gets pregnant but loses the child.
Karl begins to get bad again and Shiloh often has to bring him home from the local bar.
Karl loses his job as a mechanic and Nora goes back to work to avoid eviction.
Shiloh picks up after school job of pizza delivery driver.
Shiloh gives up on school and drops out. She begins working odd jobs to cover expenses for her parents when Nora stops working. Their home becomes a front for drug selling and falls into disrepair.
Nora and Karl are busted. Karl is charged, but eventually gets away with only a few years in prison.
During his prison time, Shiloh eventually gets her GED to enlist in the army at 25.
Karl is released on probation.
Before her training is finished, Shiloh gets the news that Nora has taken off and Karl has had an affair that resulted in a baby.
Karl takes a turn for worse and begins conning his way to money for drugs and alcohol again.
Shiloh quits basic and returns home to take care of Wren and Karl. Shiloh spends several years working multiple jobs to keep up with bills, Karl’s debts and Wren’s needs.
She meets Wyatt St. Jones while working at an O’Tolleys. He saves her from being turned into a fomori host. They date.
Shiloh has final argument with father, who didn’t approve of Wyatt because he was gone so often. He gets violent and she gets hurt (gets sliced on rib). She removes Wren from the trailer and they couch surf for several months.
Wyatt returns home, and finds the pair of them just barely surviving. He beats the shit out of Karl, and his pack pulls together a trailer in a nearby town for Shiloh and Wren to live in. Shiloh and Wyatt get married.
Shiloh gets a ‘diagnosis’ for Wren, determining that she has autism. Shiloh also officially does a ‘Kinship adoption’ to make their living situation formal.
After two years of marriage, Shiloh receives the news that Wyatt and his pack had died saving children.
Shiloh takes Wren on a road trip, and networks with other Bone Gnawers to learn more and discover the life.
The pair find their way to Hellifyno and the Vermin Chapel.

I’m on my third playthrough of “Heart of the Forest” which is a computer game based on the “Werewolf: The Apocalypse” tabletop setting. It’s an interactive novel, meaning basically a digital ‘choose your own adventure’ book with moving illustrations. You play as Maia, a college student who travels to Poland in search of her roots and the dark secret around them, and, as you might guess, discovers she’s a werewolf. This is not a game review blog and I’m not a gamer, but I do love me some World of Darkness, so I thought I’d post my thoughts!
I think you should know and enjoy WtA already before getting it, not because the game doesn’t explain the lore to you (it does, or at least the basics) but because I feel like if you knew nothing about WtA and just wanted to play a game about being a werewolf, you’d be expecting a very different set of tropes and themes. Being a Garou in WtA is different than being a regular ol’ werewolf in any other setting, and the game reflects this. There is a LOT of emphasis placed on the spiritual aspects, the aspects of duty and family and ancestral debts, your choices deciding who you are and what your path is, as well as a huge emphasis on the importance of nature, of preserving and protecting it and being a part of it rather than apart from it. It’s not a game about blood, guts, gore, or killing people. Speaking of that, combat/death scenes do happen in the story---some will depend on your choices, some will occur no matter what you do---but they’re minimal and always serve a story purpose. It’s not gratuitous, but it is very impactful, especially with the art, which is heavily stylized and symbolic, rather than realistic or graphic. Also, as someone who dislikes combat in gameplay normally (my least favorite part of Bloodlines, for instance) the “choose your own adventure” novel aspect works well for me here, as I can just click the option I want and it will happen, but if you’re someone who prefers to hit buttons to make your character punch and kick, this isn’t for you. You don’t even have any stats; your character sheet merely keeps track of your personality traits.  I usually like a fully customizable protagonist, but Maia is close enough to make me happy. She comes with a name, background, and baggage, but the choices you make can shape her personality in many different ways, as well as choosing her auspice and tribe as a werewolf. That way, you don’t feel like you’re playing the same character every time you do a new game (I’m playing til I’ve been every auspice and every available tribe option; Black Furies, Bone Gnawers, Glass Walkers, and Children of Gaia) and there’s a plethora of choices you make and places you can go, which cancel out other routes, so you need to play through a few times to get to everything the game has to offer---I’m still getting surprised! The NPCs are alright, though not that memorable and I don’t have strong opinions on any of them. It loses out to Bloodlines there. But nothing is ever gonna be Bloodlines. Also, while it’s not a violent combat-oriented game, there are still strong elements of horror to parts of it. The dreams and visions you experience contain some very unsettling stuff, but it leans more into surreal eeriness instead of buckets of blood. I like that, personally.  I think this is a good video game for people who, like myself, don’t like video games or normally play them, but want to experience this world and this lore. The treehugging theme appeals to me of course (and is true to the Garou theme of protecting Gaia) and the descriptions of the forest are hauntingly beautiful. I also like the amount of choices you get, the fact that those choices do have impact, and how there’s so much to do that you can’t accomplish it in one playthrough. And I like that it’s not a game about being a werewolf, but specifically a Garou, which, as mentioned, is different from the werewolves of just about any other media out there. I also really enjoy the art, it’s a REALLY interesting mixed-media style that I can’t really describe but works really well for this game. If you’re looking for fast-paced action and fighting though, it’s probably not your bag.

*slides into your inbox* Got any werewolf ocs??? c:
OH MAN YOU HAVE NO IDEA
I have a lot of Werewolf OCs! Like a ton. I’ve been playing WtA for like, 6 or 7 years now I think so they just keep RACKING up.
here are some of my favourites:
Elis Rushe is probably my favourite/most played. He’s sort of an all-purpose OC at this point but he gets played as a werewolf a lot. His current character sheet is here, though it might not mean a lot to people not too familiar with WoD. The short of his story is that he was born into the Black Furies, in a pretty “traditional” sept, who were really super against him coming out as a trans man and covered up his sexual abuse before his first change. He ended up taking off with his basically-sister and his daughter to halfway across the province to a much nicer sept. He’s a Child of Gaia now, and really into making fetishes (magic items).
Walk-like-a-Monkey is a Red Talon (all-wolf tribe, stereotypically they are the ‘kill all humans’ group but thats REALLY oversimplified. They won’t accept human borns at all, though.) Galliard, who I’ve been enjoying playing a lot. Her  Garou mother ended up getting into a mixed pack and falling for a (gasp) HUMAN kinfolk, so she was kinda bullied and looked down on by other Red Talons, but allowed to live. She wants to try and make her tribe understand that humanity has a place in the world and is worth being on good terms with, but that’s gonna be... hard. Her sheet is here.
John Coombs is... I’m gonna be honest he’s basically Shane but a Bone Gnawer and allowed to say fuck. He’s also a lot more rude and can turn into a giant wolf, but y’know. He’s an awful little goblin man and playing him is a blast. Sheet is here.
If i keep going I’m gonna ramble forever but some honourable mentions are Crimson Branches, a character in a 300-years-in-the-future chron we were doing who’s basically a big weird lesbian wolf, Whisper of Night, who’s from our White Howler chron and is a nervous little artist who gets weird visions of doom and destruction, and Chihiro, who is not in fact a werewolf but a werecockroach, but gets to be included bc I love her.
