Dancing under the Moonlight | Prologue
Bradley Bradshaw x OC Reader (Nickname Honey)
Summary: After the Uranium Mission, Bradley Bradshaw decides he wants to settle down. Maybe even start a family at some point in time. But he felt so tired (and old) to be in the dating scene. That's until he sees a beautiful new bartender at The Hard Deck. Not only that; turns out she's Penny's niece, Beatrice. They both hit it off amazing, but for some reason, Beatrice isn't letting her walls down yet. But Bradley is going to get to the bottom of what Bea's big secret is.

You’re hiding in the closet in your bedroom. Scared for your life, trying to cover your mouth so he doesn’t hear you. You suddenly jolt at the sound of someone knocking on your door. But you don’t answer it, you stay inside not wanting to be found. A few minutes later you hear the door creak open, your whole body is pulverized with fear. You hear footsteps all around the room. But you finally hear someone call out for you.
“Bea…Beatrice, are you here?” you hear a female voice. You come to realize it’s you, Aunt Penny. You let out a gasp and start to let out all the waterworks from your body and start to sob uncontrollably. You hear her footsteps padding her way to the closet. She lets out a gasp of her own. Seeing you curled up with your knees to your chest, seeing the healing bruises on your arms and legs. She kneels and takes her hands and puts them on both sides of your cheeks, so she can fully see you.
“Oh, my honeybee. You’re safe now. Nobody is gonna hurt you ever again. Okay? I won't let that happen.” You just let her hug you. You miss having a warm embrace with you. You miss that motherly love and affection. You missed the one person who truly believed in you, and who wanted you to succeed in your dreams. You missed your mom.
You just simply nod, and let more tears run down your face, but you feel your aunt wipe away those tears, and give you a gentle kiss on your forehead. The next thing you know, you’re gathering all of your stuff that you can fit in Aunt Penny’s car. Including some of your clothes for work and some shoes. But before you went out the front door you ran over to where the TV stand was, untape your necklace that was on the back of it. You knew Zeke would look for anything worth anything to you and pon it off. But you would never let him take this away from you, your mom got you a necklace with a honey bee-shaped charm on it for graduation.
You took everything you needed and went off with Aunt Penny to Fightertown U.S.A.
Tumblr media
(Bradley POV)
You were walking into The Hard Deck like any other normal night. You’ve been at this whole routine since the mission was a success. Ever since then, you haven't been able to sleep. Not being able to sleep alone for that matter of fact. You've always wanted to have somebody, somebody to come home to. To have a warm body next to you, someone to have a conversation with, actually talk about something other than work. Instead of walking into an empty apartment, falling asleep with no noise, slowly diving into an abyss of nothing.
But now, you’ve found a group of friends that you can talk to, hang out with, and find a connection with people you haven't had in a long time.
All of the squad was there, including Mav. We were all having a good time playing pool and darts, drinking, and making jokes with everyone. Until we see out the window, Penny pulls into the parking lot super fast. Then we all look over at Mav a second later when he gets a phone call from Penny.
“Hey, Pen-” He stops talking, getting cut off by her, we can actually kind of hear her through the phone. “Hey, Hey… slow down hon. Okay. Okay, I’ll be right out. Bye, hon.” We all look at him in a confused state. Something wrong Mav?” Phoenix asks with a little bit of curiousness in her voice. Then all of us asked but with only our facial expressions. Then, he just gives us a confusing stair. Not knowing what to say after talking With Penny. “Rooster. Walk with me for a minute?” he asks looking at me. I just nod and leave the group to see what he’s looking for.
“What’s up, whaddya need?” I ask him with the same curiousness in my voice. “Penny…Penny’s niece is here, and she doesn’t want to go back to the house. She doesn’t want to leave her there. So, is it possible for you to just help me bring her into the back?” He asks you. You're just trying to wrap your head around your head the crazy information you've just heard. You just agree and walk out with him.
You both are out of the bar and slowly make your way over to Penny. When you do, you see her talking to someone. That must be her niece that Mav was talking about. you think to yourself. You see both of her legs on the seat, pulling them close to her chest, just looking out the passenger window staring into oblivion. You can see a little bit of the fading bruises on parts of her legs. You’re starting to put your fists into a ball, almost making them turn ghost white. Not a lot. Just a little though.
When you see Penny go around to the other side to collect her from the passenger seat, you see her cling to Penny, almost like she would disappear if she had let her go. But Penny just whispers to the girl sweet nothings and tells her everything is going to be all right. Then we walk both of them into the bar.
When we get in, the group looks at me and Mav. Wondering if we had any answer to what was happening. We just look back, and keep walking to the back where Penny’s office is.
Once we get back there Penny sits her down and just wraps her in a hug and kisses her on the forehead. I start to daze out for a second, I can’t help when I see someone giving someone/thing else affection.
It always brings me back to when someone close and important to me. My mom. She would always make things feel better, and she would always make sure I felt safe, loved and cared for. When I lost her, I felt so alone, and like I had nobody else in the world to love and take care of me. Sometimes I wish she was still here.
But I snap out of my daze and focus on the situation before me.
(Back to your POV)
The only thing I can keep my eyes on are the pictures hanging on her wall, and some framed on the shelves. Some pictures were of my aunt and my mom when they were young. God, she looks so pretty. You thought to yourself when looking back at the same honey-colored eyes that you inherited from her. Others were of you when you were a baby, all the way up to a teenager. Graduation day, sleepovers with your best friend Chantal, and holding your baby cousin Amelia with her drool falling onto the front of your shirt. Even though you thought it was so gross, but you didn't care. You just wish you could just close your eyes and go back in time. Going back to when you were younger. When your amazing mom was alive. To when you were the most happy.
You just wanted to be left alone, curl up into a ball hide away from the world, and never be seen again. Not only were you embarrassed that you were about to start crying like a fucking maniac, but you look up for only a second, and you see a really cute mustached guy standing across from you. You’re on a fuckin’ roll Beatrice!!
You see Penny crouch down on the floor to talk to you. “Hey Honey,” she said with a warm smile, I just muster up a half-one because you were feeling so tired and worn down. “I have to go back out just for a little bit, but I have someone who can wait here with you. Is that okay?” You don't answer just yet, but again you look up and see the cute mustache guy is still there. He smiles and gives a simple wave, not seeming too scary. You simply nod and she kisses you on the cheek “I’ll be back in a little bit Honeybee, if you need me, or anything just call out for me. Okay?” I just give a quiet “okay” and then she gets up to leave.
Both your Aunt Penny and the other man walk out the door to go back to work. Just leaving you and the Mustache guy alone. With nothing to do. “You speak up to him “You don’t have to stay with me if you-” he cuts you off. “Even though we’re not talking, it’s nice to have some company. Especially if it’s not with Bagman annoying the shirt out of everyone,” he says. I let out a little chuckle, but my smile fades a little bit when he tries to shut the door. “C-could you keep the door open… please,” I stand up and say a little loudly. He looks back at me and I cower back in the wheely chair. “Hey, hey it’s okay if you want to keep the door open. We’ll keep it open, we're playing by your rules. Okay?” a little bit of tension leaves your body, and you let out a big breath. Not knowing why you were holding your breath. You look up to him speaking again.
“Is it okay if I can sit next to you? I mean, on the floor if that’s okay with you,” he says pointing to the floor tile next to the chair. “Oh no, I don’t want you to sit on the ground,” you say wanting to put up a fight. But also kind of knowing you would lose because you couldn’t say no to this attractive, cute, and tall man. Snap out of it. You just met him, get your mind out of the gutter stupid!
“Don’t worry, it’s not a problem, I’ve been cramped in an FA/18 for hours. Sitting on the floor in a small office is a piece of cake,” he says while kneeling and taking the spot next to you. You wanted to giggle a little bit because of course your aunt has a small office, and you look at this man that’s as tall as a fucking oak tree trying to sit on the small, maybe a little bit dirty floor. Also seeing him scrunch his long legs close to his body. Trying to get me to think he is living his best life right now.
“I’m sorry, but I know for a fact that you are so uncomfortable right now,” you say to him, and starting to warm up a little bit. “Oh come on, I am living the life right now. Somebody get me a margarita.” he quietly yells out the front door. That has me leaning back in my chair laughing, which leads him to laugh with me.
After your laughter dies down a little bit, you both fall into silence, only hearing the rowdy patrons from the bar. You see him stick his hand out and start to speak. “I’m Bradley by the way. Bradley Bradshaw at your service.” You giggle a little bit more when his other hand comes up to his forehead to salute you. You were a little hesitant at first. Not wanting to fall into another trap. But for some reason, you feel sort of different around him. You feel a type of warm, and sweet comfort from him, you want to believe in yourself .He doesn’t seem so bad. But you try so hard to shove warm and lovey-dovey thoughts in the back of your mind. But you just can help it.
Just when he was about to drop his hand back down to his side, you put your hand out too. “Beatrice Benjmine. Also at your service.” You also offer the fake salute, then you hear him chuckle and take your hand to shake. His hand feels so warm, and calloused against your small dainty ones. You could also see a big size difference in your hands too, wanting to know what was also big about him. OH MY GOD BEA, What are you doing!!!
You snap out of your mind and come back in the moment. You both are still looking at each other. Hands still together and shaking. But you both drop each other hands and fall into a light conversation until you hear Aunt Penny coming into the office telling you it’s closing time and heading home. You and Bradley both decide to get up so he can walk you and your Aunt out to her car.
When all three of you were outside and walking to the car you heard Bradley speak up and talk to you. “It was nice meeting you, Beatrice. Hopefully, I will see you again,” Once again putting his hand up to salute you. You start to giggle. “It was a pleasure meeting you too.” you salute back. After that he walks past you to get the passenger door open, you give him a warm smile and get into the seat. When He closes your door you see him through the window smiling at you and giving you a small wave. You wave back when Aunt Penny starts to pull away, but you can see him in the rearview mirror walking over to a blue car and getting in, maybe going home himself. But you just stare back out the window watching the waves roll to the shore with the moon sparkling over the waves.
You want to believe Bradley is a good guy, that he wouldn’t hurt you like Zeke did. But you have a sense of love and protection he would have for his other friends he was talking about earlier. You wanted to trust your mind, but you couldn’t just yet.
Even though you just met him that night, you wish you could form a good and happy friendship with Bradley. But being your usual crazy self, thinking in the back of your mind. Only to hope it can turn into something a just little more.

“Have you been to Disneyland before?”
She looks up from her phone when he asks, sunglasses low on her nose as she purses her lips, “Hm?”
Rooster’s caravans shone as the sun hit the lenses, one of his arms resting by the window as they wait in traffic, pointing forward, “Disneyland, gorgeous.” he smiles, “You’ve been there?”
“Oh yeah, not too often. You know, my parents could handle me and Leo maybe Mike? But,” she shrugs, “We often came here with other family members, but it was really fun.” she smiles at him, looking back to check on the kids. Nicole was the only one awake, holding her stuffed chicken toy - again, his friends were hahah so funny - with her big light eyes moving around.
The twins were sleeping so soundly Bea was jealous, “Anyway,” she cfontinues, “I asked Dr.Connelly again if it’s okay for them to come–”
“Didn’t we check with her yesterday, gorgeous? Didn’t she say it was fine?”
“Well yes,” she types down, “But you gotta make sure,Roos.”
Rooster nodded, smiling to himself as the traffic finally move forward "You're right, gotta make sure everything's in order. We want this trip to be perfect for them."
Beatrice smiled, nodding as she waits for the pediatrician’s response. "Exactly. I want it to be a magical experience for all of us, stress-free."
As traffic inched forward, Rooster glanced at Nicole in the back seat. "Nikki seems excited. She's been eyeing that stuffed chicken like it's the key to the Magic Kingdom."
Beatrice chuckled, casting a glance at Nicole who was now inspecting the stuffed chicken with a serious expression. "That chicken is her travel companion. It goes everywhere with her. I have no idea how she got so attached to it." and she gives him a side eye look, “Who knows why, right?”
He narrows his eyes playfully, “I don’t know what you mean.”
“Our daughter likes chicken themed stuff? Wow,” Bea giggles, “Can’t say I saw that coming.”
“Chickin!”
“Yes,baby girl it is a chicken.” he adds while looking through the rear view mirror, “So, since you’ve been there before can you,” a shrug, “Give me the basic rundown of what I’ll see first? I think I haven’t seen anything Disneyland related since the 90s.”
Beatrice smiled, eyes shining immediately, hands spreading. "Sure thing. Disneyland is divided into different lands, each with its own theme and attractions. The first land you'll probably see is Main Street, U.S.A. It's designed like a nostalgic American town from the early 20th century, you know, with shops, restaurants, and the iconic Sleeping Beauty Castle at the end."
Rooster nodded, his eyes gleaming with anticipation. "Sounds charming. What's next?"
"Well, from Main Street, you can branch out to different lands. There's Fantasyland, where you'll find classic attractions like 'It's a Small World,' 'Peter Pan's Flight,' and the 'Mad Tea Party' – you know, the spinning teacups. Perfect for Nikki."
"I can already picture Nikki insisting on spinning the teacups faster than anyone else."
Beatrice laughed, "Exactly. She'll probably challenge you to a teacup spinning competition."
Rooster smirked,  tilting his head so he could see better "Bring it on. What's next after Fantasyland?"
"Well, there's Adventureland, where you'll find 'The Jungle Cruise' and 'Indiana Jones Adventure.' It's got a tropical jungle theme."
"Sounds like my kind of place. I'm ready for some jungle exploration."
“Yeah, you would.”
Both of them looked down at his Hawaiian shirt. And he snorted, “Hilarious, what else?”
"Then there's Frontierland, with a Wild West theme. You'll find 'Big Thunder Mountain Railroad,' a roller coaster. And oh!  'Splash Mountain,' a log flume ride with a drop at the end."
Rooster's eyes lit up at the mention of roller coasters. "I'm definitely trying those. What's after Frontierland?"
"New Orleans Square is next. It's got a Southern charm with cobblestone streets and a haunted mansion. The 'Haunted Mansion' ride is a must-see, especially if you like spooky stuff."
“That could be interesting. What's left?"
"Uuuuhhhh, well, there's Critter Country, which has the 'Winnie the Pooh' ride. And finally, there's Tomorrowland, a futuristic-themed land with attractions like 'Space Mountain' and 'Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters.' she grins, “And hmmm…let me think, there must be something else.”
“You got that all from memory?”
“Course not hon,I memorized everything remember?” she grins, tapping her phone, “So we’d know what to do.”
Rooster chuckled, "You're like our personal Disneyland encyclopedia. Impressive."
Beatrice grinned, tapping her phone screen. "Well, it's a big park with a lot to offer. I just want us to make the most of our time there, experience everything the kids might enjoy." she smiles more “And you. You look good by the way.”
He smirks, face still forward, “Do I?”
“Hard to look,bad,Roos.”
“Aw,keep going like that and I’ll have to take you on a date, gorgeous.”
Beatrice's laugh rang through the car, a warm and melodic. "A date at Disneyland? Now that sounds like a plan. We could even try one of those character dining experiences. Maybe have dinner with Mickey and Minnie?"
Rooster grinned, the image of sharing a meal with Disney characters sparking his amusement. "Sure, why not? I'd love to see kids’ reaction."
"I bet they’d love it."
As the traffic inched forward, Rooster stole a quick glance at Beatrice. Her enthusiasm was contagious, and the sparkle in her eyes mirrored the excitement building within him. "Gorgeous, this trip is going to be incredible. Thanks for making it happen."
Beatrice met his gaze, her eyes softening with affection. " I'm just making sure it's filled with magic for all of us."
The car finally reached the entrance to Disneyland, and the iconic Sleeping Beauty Castle came into view. Rooster couldn't help but marvel at the sight, the grandeur of the castle against the backdrop of a clear sky. "We made it.”
Beatrice grinned, her excitement bubbling over. "We sure did.Ready?."
Rooster chuckled, "Sure am."
-
Nikki's eyes widened at the sight of Cinderella's Castle, and she tugged on Rooster's hand. "Dada, big! Inside?"
Rooster chuckled, lifting her onto his shoulders. "Maybe later, sweetheart. Let's explore a bit first." he keeps her up on his shoulders and her tiny hands land on his cap as they walk forward, “There’s…a lot of people here.”
Bea pushes the stroller forward, the twins now awake, “Yeah. But it’s less than often. I think we’ll be okay.” she does grab his bicep as they move forward, to stay close at all times.” Where do you want to go first?”
Rooster scanned the parl, considering their options. "How about we start with Fantasyland? I’m…kinda overwhelmed right now, hah."
“That’s okay,Roos,we’ll start slow.”
Rooster and Beatrice navigated through the crowd, the twins in the stroller, and Nikki on Rooster's shoulders, her eyes darting from one magical sight to another.
Nikki pointed excitedly at the spinning teacups of the Mad Tea Party. "Dada!"
“Yeah, baby girl. I know, we can go there later.” his eyes looked around for a bit, lips pursed, “...you know, it feels…weird? A little?”
Beatrice nodded, understanding the mix of emotions Rooster was experiencing. "It's a lot to take in, especially for the first visit. But we'll take it one step at a time, alright?"
Rooster smiled appreciatively, squeezing her hand. "Yeah, one step at a time. “ the kids were having a blast at least, Nikki was just babbling so happy on his shoulders that he just couldn’t help smiling, “Do…they have anything to do with the sword and the stone?”
Beatrice thought for a moment, then nodded. "Yes, they do! The Sword in the Stone is right in front of King Arthur Carrousel. We can check it out."
“...really?”
“Yeah!”
Rooster’s lips parted and he just…looked like a little boy for a second, lips quirking, “Wow…wow uh…wow.” he was fidgeting a bit with excitement, “Can we…can we go there?”
Beatrice chuckled at Rooster's childlike enthusiasm. "Of course, we can. It's a classic Disney experience. Nikki, what do you think? Want to see if Daddy can pull the sword from the stone?"
Nikki clapped her hands  "Yea!"
“I think daddy is worthy enough too,” Bea smiles, rubbing his arm and seeing how his cheeks heated up as he dropped his gaze, “We can go Roos. If you want to start there,we can go there.”
He looked so delighted by that idea, he looked so so happy. “It is your favorite movie, right Roos?”
Rooster grinned, his eyes lit up with a genuine excitement. "Yeah, it is. 'The Sword in the Stone' has always been a favorite. I mean, who wouldn't want to try pulling that sword out?" he pauses “My mom…and I watched it often.”
“Yeah?”
“And…Robin Hood.” he smiles, “Do they have stuff like that here? Robin Hood?”
"Oh, they definitely have nods to Robin Hood. We can explore the area around the castle, and I'm sure we'll find something related to the legend of Robin Hood. Maybe even a character meet-and-greet!"
Rooster's eyes sparkled with excitement. "That!...sounds amazing. Yeah, yeah, gorgeous."
The Bradshaw family made their way to Fantasyland,  and Bea was so happy that all her loves looked like they were having a blast. As they approached the King Arthur Carrousel, Nikki's eyes widened with. Rooster carefully lifted her down from his shoulders, and she immediately ran towards the majestic spinning horses.
"Dada, horsies! Wide one?" Nikki's little hand was pointing forward while looking back.
Rooster grinned, glancing at Beatrice with his hands on his hips "What do you think, gorgeous? Ready for a carousel adventure?"
Beatrice nodded, her eyes twinkling with excitement. "Why don’t you two go first? I’ll stay with the twins first.”
‘You sure?”
“Yeah,” she grins, “You two have fun, yeah?”
Rooster smiled appreciatively at Beatrice, his shoulders relaxing"Thanks, gorgeous. We'll catch up with you right after."
“I’ll be right here,” she points to a bench, “Don’t worry.”
Nikki was practically bouncing on her toes, her eyes flickering between the carousel and her parents. "Come on, Dada! Horsies!"
Rooster chuckled, taking Nikki's hand. "Alright, let's go baby girl."
As Rooster and Nikki joined the line for the carousel, Beatrice found a comfortable spot nearby to park the stroller. The twins were wide-eyed, taking in the colorful surroundings. Beatrice glanced around, with Aurora being a loud babbling baby as she watched people go by.
She couldn't help but feel a warm sense of contentment, hand on her cheek as she watches. She just wanted him to have a good time, he’s been through so much and he deserves a break. The carousel music began to play, and Beatrice marveled at the joyous expressions on their faces, pulling out her phone to film them for a short while. Nikki was getting so tall, even for a one year old, she’s half his calf already.
She only watched with her eyes shining. This was going to be a good day.

A convo in the server about Bea's parents being mean and mother superion being possessive + Shannon, Mary, Lilith being protective
I can't plot or write for shit but eh, at least the idea is there ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
------
Beatrice received a letter from her parents, informing her that they are on a diplomatic trip and will be paying a visit to the Cat's Cradle. The letter crumples when she clenches her hands, trembling at the thought of seeing them again after years.
She steadies herself, taking in slow, deep breaths. As long as she shows them that she's better now, they'll leave her alone. She doubts that they would cause a scene, considering that they are very concerned with appearances. But she's prepared for the possibility that it might happen, knowing their temper.
On the day of their arrival, Beatrice gives them a tour of the Cat's Cradle.
They expected Beatrice to be part of a convent, not some military. They scowled in disgust at the sight of the sisters training. When they returned to the main hall, which was thankfully empty - though unbeknownst to them, Shannon, Mary and Lilith were just out of sight, curious and concerned about leaving Beatrice alone with her parents.
"This place is not befitting of you. Risking your life fighting for what? We expected you to serve God as a nun, not a fighter. Pack your things, we're leaving." Beatrice's mother gestures at her to pack up, an eyebrow raising when Beatrice made no attempt to move.
"Mother, I will not leave this place. I am still serving God and fighting in his name is an honour." Beatrice could count the number of times she's talked back to her parents on one hand, because after the second time, she learned that she's not allowed to have her own opinions. But having to leave the OCS was something she couldn't bring herself to do. She's found a family here, people who accept her, who guide her with love. She doesn't want to give that up and return to hell with her parents.
A loud slap echoed in the hall, Beatrice's face turned to the side from the force. "How dare you talk back to me. I didn't raise you to talk back to your parents. You will gather your things and we're leaving this instant."
The moment she laid a hand on Beatrice, her sisters rushed out to stand between them. Lilith and Mary glared at them as Shannon checked on Beatrice, calming her when she realised that they had seen what happened. Shannon's heart breaks when she sees that Beatrice is holding back tears, eyes wide with fear.
"Sorry but Beatrice isn't going anywhere with you. You heard her loud and clear." Mary squared up to them but hoping that she doesn't have to punch them in front of Beatrice no matter how much she would love to.
"Beatrice is my daughter and she will listen to what I say. You can't keep her from me. I will bring this place down if I have to!" Beatrice's mother shouts at them fiercely.
Apparently the commotion had brought attention to Mother Superion, the sound of her cane echoing in the hall as she approached them made Beatrice shrink into herself, prepared to be punished for causing trouble. "What's all this about?"
"Mother Superion..! It's nothing of concern! I was just going to prepare to leave with my parents…" Beatrice immediately steps in to defuse the situation. She doesn't want her parents to cause more trouble for them. "I'm sorry, but I am needed with them."
"Like hell you are!" Mary turns to Beatrice with an incredulous expression.
"Language!" Mother Superion scolds Mary before taking in the situation in front of her. She sees how Beatrice's left cheek is red and swollen, how the girls are standing protectively between Beatrice and her parents.
"You must be the one with authority here. Please tell these girls to step aside and return my daughter." Beatrice's mother smiled politely.
"I'm sorry but I'm afraid I can't do that." Mother Superion's answer shocked everyone in the hall. "Sister Beatrice is needed here. She is a talented individual that we cannot afford to give up. And regarding your threat, I'm sure it won't look good for you if news got out that you would assault your daughter in a holy place. Beatrice isn't your daughter anymore, you've lost that right the moment you laid your hands on her. She's mine and she belongs with her sisters."
It would be funny to see Beatrice's mother turning red with anger at Mother Superion's words if it weren't for the fact that Beatrice was terrified of them and that they are on guard in case any of them lashes out. Luckily, they just shouted profanities and cursed them to hell before leaving the Cat's Cradle.
Mother Superion turned to Beatrice, reaching out to cup her uninjured cheek. "Are you alright?"
The soft and gentle way Mother Superion was being towards her, coupled with her words, sends Beatrice sobbing with relief as she moves to hug her. She simply rasps out thank you's between her sobs, grateful that no matter what happens, no matter how unsightly it is, she have a people to call family and a place to call home.

teach me to love, as you have loved me [4/6]
characters/pairings: Beatrice, Lilith, Mary/Shannon
rating: T
chapter word count: 6920
Beatrice joins the OCS. Through it, she finds a family.
She scrabbles at the helmet with her left hand, gets it wrenched halfway off before someone's helping her with it, taking care not to catch her hair in it as they pull it away. Mary sets the helmet to the side and turns to the bike, bracing beneath it and wrestling it off her.
"Thanks," Beatrice groans, rolling to her front. She sets her hands flat on the ground and pushes. Pain flames through her shoulder. Her elbow buckles. She drops again, sucking air through her teeth.
Mary turns back to her, lays her hands at hip and shoulder. "Where's it hurt, Bea?"
"Shoulder. Right."
"Okay. We're gonna get you onto your back. Nice and slow. Stop me if you feel a sharp pain." Beatrice rolls with Mary's help, feeling adrift beneath her touch. When she's flat on the ground again, Mary presses a hand to her forehead. "Stay down, babygirl. Lilith, get your ass over here!"
"Language!"
"Lilith, get your goddamn ass over here!"
Lilith sits up from where she'd been lying on the hood of the van and lowers her sunglasses. "What, Mary– Oh, hell."

jt (finally) watches warrior nun - s1 e7
So I had a lot of thoughts about this episode just on Beatrice herself so I’ll separate my thoughts on Mother Superion into my rewrite post (I know I’m behind, but I think I finally got my thoughts in order for e6). But gosh, so much with Beatrice in this episode - and KTY just delivering with her presence and her face. Both KTY and Alba show so much depth in this episode, really fantastic work. What I’ll try to focus on are two-ish things: Beatrice’s reaction to the reassignment (and coming back), and her hella cool fight.
Beatrice's reaction to the reassignment (and coming back)
Okay so for episode 5, I mentioned how initially, I didn’t think Beatrice sassing Duretti was a smart play - and though it's not said directly, I think we're meant to make the connection that that's why Beatrice was reassigned. And this is devastating for Beatrice - so much so that it unsteadies Bea through not only this scene (KTY’s delivery of “The OCS is my home too” is heartbreaking), but also in the scene in the church where Mary is trying to convince Vincent and Bea of the secret room.
I note this because in every episode prior to this, we’ve seen bits of Beatrice's anger. And it’s not that anger is her default - I think Beatrice’s default is calm; her being “guarded” and distant, however, I think is learned - but when we see any sort of emotion from her, it’s her “letting her emotions blind her to the mission.”
With the OCS, her missions has been to be valuable, to safeguard her family, her home. It’s why she does so much on her own (as I mentioned with the research and tranquilizer in ep2), why she went on what was close to a suicide mission retrieving the shield from Arq-tech in e4, why she instinctively comforts when her sisters are in pain (constant example is Camila, especially in this episode; we could even put Ava in this category as well).
But when she got angry with Duretti, I wonder if that wasn’t actually in line with that mission - because instead of putting the OCS as her priority (and swearing loyalty to Duretti as head of the OCS), she puts herself as priority. She refuses to fall in line, refuses to bow down.
And then she gets punished. Again.
This post I think summarizes things well. This is the second time she's gone through this, and after she’s literally put her life on the line too. It doesn't help that the one time she stands up for herself, this is what she gets.
In a word: This hurts for Bea. More than any injury, more than any of the losses they’ve had thus far.
On my first pass through this episode, I was confused as to why Beatrice was so unwilling to accept Mary’s plan because we’d already seen how Beatrice had misgivings. But when reframed as Bea reliving old trauma, it’s no wonder why she’s reacting this way. She’s not really in the present - it’s like PTSD, caught in that horrifying loop of trauma.
(Side note: When Beatrice said “I can’t” to Mary, did anyone else immediately think of the "If I left, would you come with me?" balcony scene in s2? They both feature offers made by people Bea cares for, while she’s in a compromised emotional state. Idk if that was deliberate, but it’s interesting nonetheless.)
All this to say, it makes Beatrice's return that much more stunning and meaningful (and gosh, I wish that had been acknowledged - even just a line by Mary or something; I’ll ponder more for the rewrite). To be able to set all that aside, to come back and help - that takes a lot of strength.
It also makes me think of the line she gave Ava in the cafeteria scene, the one Ava echoes in the s2 finale: “Things change when you realize not everything’s about you.” I’m guessing the strategist in her must have kicked in, seeing the chessboard and how she was being played, how they all were being played. Imo, the reason Beatrice came back was evidence of where her loyalties truly lay: with her sisters.
Beatrice's hella cool fight
Okay, now let’s get into that fight scene with Crimson! What’s interesting about this fight scene was that I found myself comparing this fight not with the earlier fight with Crimson but with the fight at Arq-Tech.
The first fight with Crimson is just … weird. Part of it is me just not being able to look at the outfits (why is Beatrice in a gi while Camila is in that hooded sleeveless thing and Crimson’s in a hooded long sleeve whatever? All of it is just sigh), part of it is the fact that we don’t really get to see the fight clearly because it was intercut with Mother Superion and Duretti’s conversation (which I wish had been done differently; again, I’ll ponder this in the rewrite).
But like, after Beatrice gets out of the chokehold, Crimson does what looks like a double leg, then Beatrice reverses - she could have stayed on top, maybe take mount and get in some ground and pound, but instead she just stood back up…??? Then she ends the fight voluntarily after getting hit with one cheap shot? I just … didn’t understand any of it.
The reason why I compare it with the Arq-Tech fight instead is because at Arq-Tech, Beatrice is fighting to survive. She’s in soldier mode, “kill or be killed.” She’s obviously on edge in the first fight with Crimson but she’s holding back it seems - after all, it’s “just” a sparring match. But the second fight with Crimson is for real - and Beatrice, fresh off of dealing with her trauma remember, is angry. But not only that, she’s prideful. And the wonderful thing is that it comes out in the fight choreography.
So let’s look at the fight (found a video here) - it’s quite short but each move is meaningful (at least to me). First is how Beatrice stops Crimson’s strike: that is really, really hard. It's like jumping into an arm wrestle halfway through. The arm strength that you have to have for that - especially as the shorter person! - is incredible. It’s a great hint that maybe Beatrice was holding back in that first fight with Crimson, given the amount of strength she’s exhibited before (i.e. the Arq-Tech fight in e4).
Second, after the sassy exchange, she does a smooth disarm which, similar to the arm lock I noted in the Arq-Tech fight that kind of move requires you to use your whole body if you’re the smaller person - again, clues to Beatrice’s expertise.
The call outs are fun though a little unrealistic (kinda like that moment in s2e8 where Bea yells at Ava to phase when she throws the knife), but what’s really interesting is the move Beatrice does when Crimson attacks with the right handed chokehold.
So what Beatrice does is three movements: 1) she catches Crimson’s right hand with both of her hands, 2) wraps her left shoulder around Crimson’s arm which pulls Crimson forward and down (notice how Crimson’s posture breaks momentarily), which essentially leads Crimson into 3) the blade of Beatrice’s left hand snapping back into Crimson’s throat.
(Side note: What is it with the throat? There’s so many throat shots in Warrior Nun's choreography. I mean, I get that it’s a powerful place but idk, knees are good too yknow)
The thing that’s interesting about this particular sequence is that I grew up learning a technique where instead of the 3rd movement Beatrice does, you instead continue twisting and pulling your opponent forward. From there, you have the option of breaking their shoulder or just driving them down completely to the ground (where you can then either break their arm or just hold them until help arrives). Fairly certain I've seen it in aikido as well, definitely practiced it in self-defense stuff.
But Beatrice does not do that - she instead does that knife hand to Crimson’s throat, followed by that lovely kick. Notably, Crimson does not stay down. Compare this with the Arq-Tech fight where early on, she downs the dude she shoulder locks with a similar headkick (0:42 in this clip) Why doesn’t Crimson stay down? Either she’s a) stronger than that security dude, or b) Beatrice is deliberately prolonging things.
My guess? Likely a mix of both. This is Beatrice letting her emotions get the best of her but also letting her emotions do the talking. But again, it ends badly for her - well, almost, since Ava’s there to save her this time.
Which is quite meaningful in context, now that I think about it. The last time Beatrice let herself get angry, she was kicked out of her home; this time she was nearly shot but saved by Ava. One more piece set into the Avarice foundation.
All right, I’ll stop there - if there’s anything else from this ep you’d like my thoughts on, let me know, otherwise, I’m so excited to finally get to e8!

Your Star Trek AU idea sounds great! I love the backgrounds you've assigned to everyone!
I have a few different ideas for a Star Trek AU myself (like this), but I would probably never get around to writing them.
I have been thinking about Ava and Shannon possibly being Trills / or with a symbiont too! Although in what I've been thinking about so far, Ava is just human who got a symbiont jammed into her in an emergency situation a la Adira Tal in ST:Disco. Shannon is definitely a Trill though.
I love the thought of Bea having a Vulcan connection. I always wanted Bea to be human in a Star Trek AU but she def has Vulcan-like traits. I kinda like the idea of her being a human raised by Vulcans, with her struggling to suppress her human emotions in a Vulcan society, like Michael from ST:Disco. (And now this is making me think of Lilith as possibly Romulan, with all the emotions she always expresses outwardly as opposed to Bea's Vulcan trait of suppressing her emotions.)
And can I please steal that USS Andalusia name? I have been trying to think of a name for their ship.
Having the OCS be a part of Section 31 is a great idea! And the DS9 influence with the whole Cardassian and Bajoran conflict is a great idea for a show with religious influences.
First off, I love that there are other people that wanna mash Warrior Nun and Star Trek together. Big mood.
I haven't seen STD, but I also was toying with whether Ava should've been a Trill or just a human that was there when Shannon died. It's nice to know that there's another case in canon I can look into for something like that.
And Bea is totally Vulcan-coded, whether she's part Vulcan or raised Vulcan. Not only is there that suppression of base human emotion vs her Vulcan upbringing, but I also was toying with the idea of Bea being a master of all trades kind of person as an attempt to make up for the fact that she was probably seen as a "lesser than" during her upbringing. This also leads to a surprising knowledge of religion and theology that her human side possessed, but she found lacking in her Vulcan family. (This would also lead to some interesting discussions with Vincent, who I thought could be a Bajoran counselor on the ship as well.)
Lilith as a Romulan? It basically writes itself.
And please, take as much as you want from all of this stuff I'm spewing! I'd be ecstatic to see any of this anywhere!
Aaaaannnnnnddd I am now just reading all the stuff you have written for your AU and-my gosh-I love it all! I didn't even consider the Borg when I was doing this, but Lilith getting partially assimilated and then rescued is so perfect (especially with it being because of her duty and saving Ava). And I love how you incorporated Diego, because what's Star Trek without some precocious scamp running around?
I also love that we both had no idea what to do with Camilla. Being the sweet, little cinnamon roll, maybe we just give her the O'Brien treatment and just put the screws to her every other chapter.
And my god, the interactions you described with the mirrorverse Avas and Beas, that is pure gold!
P.S. I definitely will watch VOY. I attempted to start it recently, but jut wasn't in the head space for it. Definitely will give it another go soon!
P.P.S. This was so fun to talk about. Feel free to just straight up message me whenever you wanna chat!

Daily avatrice analysis (day 8)
day1 day2 day3 day4 day5 day6 day7 day8 day9
mental health was shit so let’s write about Avatrice :)
So
Ep 9 part 2
First of all,
Tumblr media
We have Sister “I am trying to tell my crush i like her so i pat her for 0.01 second” Beatrice
and Ava “I am a golden retriever and my owner(? is leaving so I follow” Silva
Tumblr media
I always thought this is such a cool transition so I just wanted to show you all
also height difference
where are my fellow 5’2 humans at
Tumblr media
Normalized turning to your wife sister warrior randomly to check rather she is okay
Tumblr media
Okay this is a Interesting interaction
The first look from Bea is just bea observing
She saw that Ava was not feeling alright
She is feeling uncomfortable for some reason
So the second look is Bea trying to investigate, to figure out the reason why Ava is uncomfortable
Only this time Ava look at her back
So she is forced to act
Because she can’t worry about Ava in secret(? now
So she did the logical thing
And the thing that works last time
Just ask her if she is okay
And Ava would told her
Ava’s answer was
“I’m just realizing that I’m not a big fan of cemeteries.”
But that’s not what she is really saying
Her explanation to why she dislikes cemeteries is because it reminds her of her own death
But we all know death is not what she is afraid of
Is being alone
Which is why Bea’s response is aimed to reassure Ava, she is not alone anymore
Bea then said
“Well you are not exactly in luck.”
A witty opener(to miss I’m must be serious at all times Beatrice I would say that’s witty)
“Necropolis literally means city of the dead.”
Fighting emotions with facts and logic since day one
This is how Beatrice comforts people
Trying to get them to see the logical side of things
She is the type of friends where if you go to her with relationships problems
She would end up making 2 spreadsheets, a chart, and 5 separate pros and cons list
And we love her for it
Because Ava is the opposite
She thinks with emotions more, compared to Bea
Which is why the Vatican heist went from just stealing Adriel’s bones to destroying them
And that’s why their dynamic works so well
Also
this show and parallels???
Tumblr media
Not sure if someone talked about this before but
The way Ava’s hair looks like mommy mother superion’s scar???
I don’t know much about cinematography, but this is cool
Tumblr media
side note, I love the relationship between ava and mother superion sm
they went from
boss bitch is here to mother Goddd character development we love to see it
Tumblr media
Two things here
One
Ava baby never change
Two
one word for Bea: Whipped
Tumblr media
Here we got more proof that Ava is smart
She took one look at the crate and just knows??
What kinda TV shows she’s watching
Or she just calculated it in her head??
I have so many questions about this
Also side note, Avatrice Tomb Raider AU?? The vibes are aligning I can feel it
Tumblr media
Are you telling me sister Faith is my business Beatrice just make a pun joke????
I’ve got nothing to say about this other then :
Tumblr media
Lastly I just wanted to say
This?
Tumblr media
CHARACTER GROWTH
baby girl went from I wanted to live
To MY FAMILY
Also I headcannon the reason why she is whispering things to herself here is because back at the orphanage she does the same thing in her head to comfort herself
Just little words of encouragement/reminder
Things that she is fighting/living for
In this case is the OCS crew
Last ep of season 1 tmr
Stay tuned :)
day9

What are your oc’s names inspired by? Is there a sort of theme or anything maybeee?
Side note: happy belated birthday 🎂
Dragon’s name is Grace named after yours truly. But I came up with the callsign Dragon because she’s Phoenix’s little sister and I liked the idea of keeping the mythical creature name in the family. Also, if yall remember from the first fic waaayyy back when, Dragon has a huge dragon tattoo going down her spine (? 97% sure it’s her spine. i know she has the tattoo tho).
Val, idk where the name came from. I just typed it one day and was like “huh, Coyote and Val sound good together.”
for Cerberus aka Luke, i wanted to keep up with the mythical creature name and Phoenix. I have Phoenix and Dragon and was like “why not Cerberus?”
And Beatrice, again idk where that came from. It was one of those where i just typed out the name and it looked good next to Bob’s. Also im obsessed with the fact that Bob doesn’t use the super common pet names like “baby” etc. I think he would want to find a pet name that is unique to his partner, so he calls Bea “honeybee”

I noticed immediately upon playing Pikmin 4 for the first time that the small body type in the character creator has the same nose type Brittany has, so I got the idea to combine that and Brittany’s prototype design to make an OC
Her name is Penn
Tumblr media
Penn is the youngest sister of Brittany and Nelle, and her relationship with Brittany as of now is really bad. Their family has been broken for a very long time and the only two people in the family who’s trying to keep it together is Aunty Bea and Nelle(though on Nelle’s end, she doesn’t have much success keeping the peace between her younger sisters). Their father died of starvation as a result of the food crisis and their mother became incredibly strict as a result. Brittany became a botanist, Nelle became a veterinarian, and Penn became a writer. Despite Alph stating that Penn was a far better writer than he was, she did not reach the same success her older sisters did, and thus did not meet her mother’s expectations. Unable to cope with the knowledge that nothing will ever please her mother, she began taking her frustrations out on Brittany, who was considered the favorite(which was very much a double edged sword on Brittany’s end as she had to deal with even bigger expectations).
As for Penn’s relationship with Alph, she was the first person Alph ever came out to as trans(in this picture, Alph hasn’t gone on T yet). Alph actually came out to Brittany’s family first before his family since Aunty Bea is a trans woman. Alph and Penn were also high school sweethearts, of course they are split up now because Alph is gay, but at the time, he was still questioning his sexuality. They’re both still friends present day, though Alph is aware of the reason why Penn is lashing out, he really wishes that Penn would get the help she needs.
Outside of how she is around some of her family members, Penn seems like she is the least mean out of the 3 sisters, but that’s only on the surface level. Brittany and Nelle may be more direct about how mean they are, but Penn can ruin your life behind your back if you really get on her bad side. Aside from that, Penn is one of the very few people who gets along with Louie, though Brittany believes Penn is only doing so out of spite.
As pictured, Penn does dye her hair much like Aunty Bea. But what’s different is that Penn has more variety in what color she chooses. She tends to dye her hair once every 3 weeks.
Penn is nonbinary and pansexual, she uses she/they pronouns.

In ur girls against god universe do u see Ava and bea having jobs? I mean they’re loaded and saved the world so I get it if they’re retired by 30 lol but I guess if not jobs what hobbies do u see them doing ?
lmfao i think abt this all the time actually! in my practical moments i’m like yah they still help w the ocs etc, i don’t do well writing complicated plot lol so ava still has the halo in a mostly normal way. they tell their friends they “vacation in spain” lol. the ocs is also their family so that’s kind of true.
in my head they have like unlimited within reason catholic church money + bea’s a nepo baby lol so other than that they don’t ~have~ to work. i think ava endearingly might want to go study smth at university for a bit, still live w bea & go to classes part time. idk if she’d rly go get a degree but she’d just wanna see what it’s like (compared to everything? kinda boring, honestly, but fun to bring bea to a frat party once, & ava enjoys some of her classes). ava is obviously really smart but i think she probably works w ocs & jillian etc more than tries to go get an advanced degree or fancy job etc
i think bea is underneath it all extremely nurturing & patient so i love to think that she teaches aikido & kendo to kids part time. ava also loves this bc she’s like bea you got to practice with ME! :) bea loves to teach that aikido is abt discipline & skill & compassion & she talks to children respectfully like they’re just small adults, so obviously all the kids just adore her. i think they also both enjoy languages so maybe something w that.
but if i put them in LA they can be hot & generationally wealthy w mysterious jobs abroad & a little side hustle without any questions lmfao

a little missing scene drabble inspired by this gifset ; beware spoilers for season 2 and tw for religious homophobia
They all settled into individual rooms while Jillian led Michael away, clinging to him with equal parts awe and grief. Beatrice rolled her shoulders as she pulled the braids down from the top of her head and slowly shook out her hair. Aches and bruises made themselves known as the adrenaline from the fight flooded out of her system.
These moments after each fight were always the hardest on the body, and Beatrice knew to expect it. It never made the process any easier though, and she let out a soft groan as she rolled her shoulders and the joints creaked.
Everything that could go wrong did, and it's a miracle that they managed to get away as unscathed as they did. Her heart still clenched when she thought about the way Vincent slung Ava over his shoulders like a sack of potatoes, the Crown glowing on her head as it sapped away the Halo's energy. Then, snapping at Camila, being only half a step behind of Ava and having the girl slip out just out of her grasp.
Then the fog.
Beatrice didn't notice how her spine shuddered involuntarily at the reminder of running through the cemetery.
'I know what you are."
She snapped to attention, eyes wide and fixed on a memory that was deep in her mind. She was no longer Sister Beatrice, twenty-three and one of the most formidable Sister Warriors of the OCS. She was back to being Beatrice, sixteen years old and sneaking back into her parents' home.
------
"I know what you are."
Beatrice had never heard her mother speak in such a venomous tone before. As a diplomat, she was used to her mother taking advantage of double-speak, hiding thinly-veiled threats behind sugar-sweet smiles and a posh accent. Never show anything but absolute politeness, is what she had told Beatrice growing up. Never let others use your emotions against you.
None of those lessons were to be seen tonight.
Beatrice had just slipped past her parents' security detail, barely able to hide the skip in her step as she let herself in through the side door. How could she when Hannah Bayer had pressed a short, sweet kiss to her lips just as she scrambled out of the taxi. The girls had been flirting all night, neither quite ready to take the jump until the last possible second and Beatrice was so stunned that she barely had a chance to kiss her back before the cab was peeling off, the sound of laughter echoing after them.
The hop in her step, the giddiness she felt, the dopey smile on her face, all fell to pieces when she saw the look on her mother's face.
"I know what you are!"
She stumbled backwards into the couch as her mother advanced on her, hand wrapping tightly around Bea's bicep, yanking her back onto her feet and dragging her up the stairs. She caught snippets of what she was saying under her breath, in a mixture of mandarin, english, and french, but they all meant the same thing.
Disgusting. Dirty. Filthy. Sinful.
Shards of shame pierced her chest and Bea let out a tearful sound as her mother pulled her into her room and told her not to move, so she could go find her father. Then instead of one voice, it was two. Berating and yelling at her for being an abomination, for being an embarrassment to their family.
How could you do this, Beatrice?
Have you no shame, Beatrice?
Where did we go wrong, Beatrice?
Beatrice. Beatrice.
"Beatrice?"
She blinked and the mask was already back on her face when she turned to face Ava, unable to help the small smile that came to her face at just seeing the other girl. The memory was swept away again, locked behind layers of repression and Bea instead resumed her fussing over Ava. Asking about the Halo's flickering, wondering about her encounter with the Crown, keeping the topic firmly on her.
She tried not to watch her too carefully, to look for signs of that terrible, furious version of Ava from the graveyard. The one that still lurked in her head with Ava's face and her mother's words. She found no traces of it in her Ava, but the fear was planted.
I know what you are.
What you are is beautiful.

Dancing under the Moonlight | Chapter 2. Love in the Limelight
Warnings: Swearing, angst, drinking, mentions of past abuse, fluff, eventually smut 18+, age gap (24 & 35)
Tumblr media
It was finally the weekend!! Even though this was gonna be a group outing, you wanted to try your best to dress a little nice for Bradley.
Chantal was with you when you were getting ready, even your Aunt and cousin were a little worried about you. You changed three times in 5 minutes. You changed your hairstyle so many times your hair could probably stick up with all the hairspray you have in it. But you just went with a simple top and some jean shorts. You finally come jutting down the stairs, and everyone's eyes are on you.
Chantal gets up from the couch and makes her way to the front door with her bag and keys. “You finally decided on something?” you just give her a little nod, while also grabbing your bag and keys. But when you turn back she is giving you a sympathetic smile. “We are going to have fun tonight, Okay? Stop worrying about what he’ll think of you. Plus, if he doesn't like it, you can drop his ass.” you both let out a chuckle. But you're stopped when you see Penny walk up to you both. “Yea listen to C. Don’t worry so much about how you look. Go and have fun, pulse you are already beautiful. Since the day you were born.” She gently caresses your cheek, and then gives you a small kiss in the same spot. You try and hold back the tears that were welling in your eyes. You remember your mom always saying that to you when you were feeling down, or sad. She would always know how to make you smile again. But, now that she’s gone you never really heard those words again. Ever since then, your Aunt Penny has tried so hard to be a mom to you, and you will always be grateful for her doing that. You kiss her back and hug Ames, also promising her that you will try and get her a prize from the bowling alley. So, you and Chantal make your way out, budding goodbye to your Aunt, and make your way over to The Hard Deck for your shift.
Before Chantal starts up her vintage cherry red Mustang, “Hey C, are the girls still on to join us?” I ask when I finish buckling into my seat. She chuckles and gives me a warm smile, “Hell yeah girl! When I told them we were having a girl's night, while also spotting some cute aviators by our side. Honey, I could even get the question out fast enough without them saying yes. She puts on her sunglasses, starts the car, and off The Hard Deck, we go.
Just as when Chantal is pulling into the parking lot you spot the infamous Blue Bronco, and you’re practically jumping out of the moving car, trying to get in the bar as fast as possible so you can see the one person you've been dying to see for days now.
(Bradley’s POV)
When I hear the doors open at the front I whip my head around and see the girl I’ve been waiting for all day. Nat pauses her game of pool with Bob to come see what I’m losing my head over. But, she looks in my field of direction and sees a brunette girl, who seems to be with her friend looking around for somebody. When they look over in our direction she sees the brunette face light up when she looks at Rooster. That must be the “mystery girl” he keeps talking to. So, they make their way over.
I see Beatrice come crashing over to us, and she gives me a small wave, and a small “Hi.”
“Are we still on for tonight pretty girl,” I ask her. But the next second she freezes up, like the wind got knocked out of her. Why the hell would you say that? She probably thinks you're crazy for calling her that!
But I see her take a deep breath and try and speak to me. “Y-yeah… I’ll call the rest of my friends to come meet us here.” She seemed to snap out of whatever daze she was in to see the person next to her nudging her in the ribs.
She looks over at her friend whom she finally introduces. “Oh, everyone this is my best friend Chantal. Chantal this is Lieutenant. Bradley Bradshaw, Lieutenant. Robert Floyd, and Lieutenant. Natasha Trace.” She gives a silent wave to me and Bob. But, when I look over to see Nat, for some reason I see a little glimmer in her eye. I know for a fact that she would kick me in the balls if I said anything about it to her. So for now, I just keep my piece and focus my attention back on Bea.
We have a light conversation for a couple of minutes until she has to be on the clock. But as soon as she leaves, I already miss her presents, even though she is right up at the bar a couple of feet away. It feels like she’s miles away from me. I just want to be near her all the time.
Within the hour more of the squad makes its way into the bar, and when they do, Bea makes her stops to introduce herself along with Chantal. Who I might add has taken up all of Natasha’s attention by talking each other’s ears off. So, for the rest of her shift, I would come up from time to time, seeing if she was alright, and watch her over from the pool tables.
I stop focusing on the game of pool to see Hangman making his way over to Beatrice.
(Back to Your POV)
After some grueling hours wiping down tables, making drinks, and trying my best not to crack underpressure. I’m finally done tonight. Luckily Aunt Penny came in an hour later, so we wouldn’t be swamped with so many people at the bar.
Just as I’m about to head out from behind the bar, out of the corner of my eye, I see someone come up. I wanted to assume it was Bradley to come check on me for the fourth time tonight. But when I turned around to see a tall, blond, cocky-looking man leaning over the bar top with a toothpick in his mouth.
For some reason, I walk back over to see what he wants. I don’t even get the question out of what he would like when he starts to speak up. “What’s a pretty girl like you doing behind a bar?” “I’m getting off my shift right now,” I tell him.
“Well, why don’t you come out with me and my friends tonight? Probably hit the town. I might even take you somewhere private.” He gives me a mischievous smile while raising his eyebrows at me. He probably doesn’t know that I’m with the group tonight. So I’ll just play a little game with him, until he gets the hint.
“I’m sorry…” genuinely asking for his name, but still playing dumb with him. “Hangman. But you can call me Jake darlin’,” he says to me while he flicks the other end of the toothpick around in his mouth.
I’m sorry… Jake. But I don’t feed off of protein powder, and small dick insecurity,” I smile back at him. He falters a little but comes back in seconds. “Oh, I like em’ feisty. How about I leave you my number and call me sometime?” I just give a little chuckle and seize up to him so he can also stand up straight.
“Yea, call me and let me know when you can actually satisfy a woman in bed.” Just as he was about to say something else, Bradley came up to the bar top and stood next to Jake. I smile ear to ear when he arrives, and I can see the same expression on his face. I pan over to Jake and see him a whole lot little shocked.
“H-hey Bradley,” you tell him with a little bit of weariness in my voice. “Hey Bea, are we ready to go?” he asked back. I was about to say that I needed to ask Penny first if I could go. But she already beat me to it, coming up behind me to answer his question.
“She’s all yours Rooster. Just bring her back home in one piece. Okay?” He just gives a little salute back to her which of course makes me laugh.
After that, I get out from behind the bar and go right into Bradley’s side. But all of a sudden we stop and he pulls me closer to his body already giving me more chills down my spine and leans down to whisper to me, “He wasn’t giving you any problems was he?” He asks in a curious tone.
“Don’t worry B, I straightened him out a little bit.” Out of the blue, he kisses my temple and mumbles “That’s my girl” to himself, but you hear him anyways. He probably didn’t mean it. You think to yourself.
So, after everyone wrapped up with their pool and darts games it was time to go bowling.
Tumblr media
After Chantal and Natasha convinced me it was a good idea to ride over to the alley with Bradley. We both knew what was up their tricky little sleeves, so me and Bradley told them they should ride together also.
That’s how you ended up in the passenger seat of Bradley’s Bronco when pulling up to the bowling alley.
After he parks the car, we see Chantal and Nat pull right in next to us and then comes the rest of the squad. When you try and open the door, you’re stopped by Bradley who’s moving closer to you while closing the door. I just look back at him.
“What are you doing pretty girl?” he asks me with raised eyebrows. Opening the door… What are you doing?” He looked dumbfounded at this point when I was answering that question. “Bea, my mother would be rolling in her grave if she found out I let you open your own door. Ya know I can feel her right now telling me off for not being a gentleman.
Now I was dumbfounded. I did want to ask him about what happened, but I didn’t want to pressure him into talking about stuff that was hard for him. So, I’m not going to get into it with him. He rushes out of the driver seat and comes running over to the passenger side to be a gentleman and open my door.
As I’m unbuckling I see him open my door, and give the fanciest bow he could give, and so I just play along. “Oh, ever the gentlemen!” I put my heart on my chest. But then jump out and follow everyone in.
When you get in you and Chantal, go ahead of everyone to see your friends Jesse, Georgia, Scarlett, Coco, and Rose. We all walk them over to the other group to introduce them to each other.
When you get a good look at the other guys from the group, it almost looks like their eyes are about to fall out of their sockets.
But you let the girls get to introduce themselves, and they seem to be enjoying it. Maybe enjoying themselves a little too much, but we all make our way to the front to get our lanes ready.
Once we got into our lanes, we decided to split the girls and the guys.
Then we were paired up, Javy and Coco, Micky and Rose, Ruben and Jesse, Bob and Georgia, Jake and Scarlett, Natashe and Chantal, and finally Bradley and Beatrice.
We went into three different lanes, and of course, there was an odd number of people that left me and Bradley in one lane by ourselves. I even see Chantal and Nat in the lane next to us giving lovely Dovey looks at me and Bradley. But I can see the same feeling when Chantal is with Nat.
A couple of years ago Chantal came out to you as bisexual, You asked her why she hadn’t told you sooner.
Her answer was that you wouldn’t want to be friends with her if she told. That made you want to slap her silly and tell her she was completely wrong. At the end of that night, you both ended up in your bed cuddling while eating junk food, with lots of tears and telling her if she ever gets her heart broken, you will hunt that person down to the end of their days.
So, you can truly believe Natasha was a good person, and you truly believed she would love Chantal till the end of time.
You could only wish that could happen to you.
And Hour goes by and you all are having a good time, eating, drinking and laughing our asses off. You don’t know who, but someone started a bet with each lane.
If someone misses the lane, and the ball goes in the gutter. That lane would have to do 50 push-ups. I feel really terrible for me and Bradley because when it was my turn I would go up I would miss.
Every single time!
You can’t really remember what count you’re both on. It might be 150… or 60. But you would just always look over at Bradley and feel really bad that he was also doing this punishment with you.
After you both are finally done with that count, you walk back to the seats, sit down, and finally get a chance to breath. You look over, and your face on with his arm. His muscles look so defined and huge. You just want to wrap your arms around them and never let go.
We are out having a good time. Now stop thinking about him like that Bea!
I finally spoke up and said something. “I’m really sorry we’re making us do push-ups. Not really expecting work to come follow you.” I put my head down. Shying away from him looking at me. “Hey, Bea… look at me, pretty girl.” When I look up he takes his finger and puts it under my chin so we are making direct contact with his hazel irises. “You don’t need to apologize. It just bowling. Plus, at least I can be able to do them with you and not Jake.”
We both giggle, but that stops when we see Chantal and Natasha making kissing noises at us. So, together you and Bradley both flip them off and return back to your game.
Once again Bradley makes a strike on his turn, he comes over to give you a high five and sits next to you. When you look up to see your name highlighted on the monitor telling you it is your turn, you just let out a sigh and brace yourself to get down on the floor and do another round of push-ups.
But all of a sudden when you are about to swing your ball back you feel a pair of hands on your shoulders stopping you.
You turn around and see it was Bradley, he comes down so he can talk to you. “I think you might need help instead of just wracking your ball in the gutter,” he tells me while pointing to our lane. “Well, teach me. See if I’m really any good,” I give him a little smirk, and Bradley copies the same expression on his face.
He stands behind you, and your back is flush against his front. And wrapping his arms around your own, almost looking like he was holding the bowling ball himself.
He bends down a little so he can talk to me again, “What you want is a good stance.” So he moves his hands from the ball and bends down to move you legs to the same position he’s in.
“Then, bring your arms back” he puts his burly hands over you and you both swing the ball back and then down the lane it goes.
It feels like you’ve been holding your breath for an eternity, feeling like the ball was going down the land so slowly and just waiting for it to hit the pins.
Then you hear the pins fall. You finally got a strike. When you see all the pins disappear, you start to freak out with excitement. Squealing and jumping up and down like a kid in a candy store. Then you turn around to give Bradley a big hug, and he wraps his arms around you and spins you in circles.
“Did you see that? I got a strike bitches!” You yell at the top of your lungs. You see everyone from the group cheer for you, even the people from the other lanes whistle for your lucky shot.
You look up at the monitor and see the little animation for the strike. It stops and tells you that your turn is still up. So you turn back to him, “I didn’t think I learned the first time. Can you show me again?” you ask him with a cheeky grin. “For you pretty girl, anything.” So you get your ball from the ball return, and wait for Bradley to come up behind you, and help you get back in your stance.
This night can’t get any better.

Once we were all done with the bowling alley, there was a beautiful sunset, and there was a boardwalk nearby. So, we all got in our cars and made our way over there.
When we all got there we decided to split up for a little bit when some of the group wanted to go on rides or go play some carnival games.
But, you and Bradley just decide to walk around not to do anything, and just wanting to be in each other's presence. While along the walk, you and Bradley kept brushing your hands together, not knowing how were going to initiate the first move. But before you can think, you take a leap and pick up Bradley’s hand and interlock your and his together. He doesn't want to make you uncomfortable so he keeps looking outwards at everything around him.
But you could feel him give your hand a gentle squeeze, and a couple of seconds later he brought your interlocked hands up to his lips and gave your knuckles a light kiss. Your heart was about to explode out of your chest you were so happy. So, you wrap your other hand around his bicep and continue on your quiet stroll.
You almost forgot to get Amelia a prize from the arcade at the bowling alley, so you dragged Bradley over to one of the games to try and win a small prize. And of course, you have no luck when trying to win any games, so you let Bradley try.
And of course, he wins the first time, and the second, and third. Now, you were carrying a giant teddy bear and two smaller prizes to his Bronco.
How is he so fucking good at everything? I wonder if he’s this good in bed-
“Would you care to have a walk with me on the beach?” he closes the door to the backseat where the bear was occupying his giant, fluffy frame. “Don’t mind if I do Lieutenant.” You both take off your shoes, interlock your hands again, and descend to the sandy shoreline.
You both walk in silence for a little bit before you both speak up at the same time. But he lets you go first. “Bradley… what is… what is this thing between us?” you ask him. But I cut him off. “Well, I know what it is… maybe. I just don’t want one of us to get the wrong signals, and in the end, someone gets hurt-” his finger cuts you off on your lips to make your stupid ass stop rambling.
“Listen, Bea, I definitely know what this is, and trust me, nobody is going to get hurt. By the looks of it, we both know something is here between us.” “I… can we just take this slow for a little bit please?” “Absolutely pretty girl.”
You see him grab something out of his back pocket and unravel a cord. You see him offer you an earbud. And hold up what looks to be like a very janky iPod Shuffle. Your mouth is agape when you see him put the opposite earbud in his ear. “Care for a dance, m’lady?”
I’m still in shock, but I let out a hardy laugh. “Bradley Bradshaw I know for a fact you did not bring an iPod on the beach to slow-dance with me!” I’m still laughing when he starts to sway from side to side. My laughing dies down, and I eventually give in.
I grab the unused earbud place it in my ear, and see him press play. Some 80s hit play, even though they were super upbeat, we swayed in silence. One part listening to music, the other listening to the waves crash on the shore.
‘You’re Gonna Miss Me’ by Connie Francis starts playing. you look down a little, to see a gold chain peaking out of his shirt. You don’t know why but you reach up and touch the cross. You look up at him finding he already had his eyes on you. “It used to be my mom's. But after…” Now I’m the one to cut him off. “Hey, if you don’t want to talk about it, I’m not gonna force you. Plus, I don’t want you to feel like you have to tell me everything-” He steps closer connecting both of your lips to his own.
It wasn’t a harsh kiss, to say the least, it was soft and gentle. But you know there was so much more behind it. But you are not getting into that right now.
So, keep kissing this really attractive guy it is.
You both break apart and connect your foreheads, both trying to catch your breath. “That was… fun,” you both let out a chuckle. You suddenly speak up, “Honey.” you move away from him a little bit to see his eyebrows raised. “My nickname is Honey. I only let people call me that if they’re close to me.”
He just nods and gives you a soft kiss on the lips. “Okay, Honey.” then he wraps you into his embrace, and continues to sway back and forth listing to the rest of the song.
Finally, for once in your life, you’re wrong for the right reason. And you're pretty damn happy about that.

Hi! From the edgy ask game, 11 and 16 for Blanca and 24 for Adrian?
- ruth
Thank you so much Ruth! (Question from this ask game)
(Blanca) What is your OC's weapon of choice? Have they ever actually used it?
Haha sooooo, her weapon of choice would be a sword, just because of the media she consumes in recovery; there's Kill Bill that has ladies with swords (including one with an eyepatch), and tons of pirate books and shows, that also have swords. I do headcanon that she eventually takes swordfighting lessons, and she will look amazing with it.
However, once she takes up the fight at Adrian's side, her weapon of choice is a knife. Due to her lack of depth perception, ranged weapons don't make that much sense for her - but she is stealthy and agile and deadly with a knife. She hasn't yet used it; but she will.
(Blanca) What is your OC's pain tolerance like?
Fantastic. Really. Taking pain has become part of her nature, and it's downright scary how she can function under extreme pain.
(Adrian) What is an alternative life path your OC might have gone down? How different would their life be if they'd made those decisions?
Oh dear. There are so many. He couldn't have joined pet lib. Just gone on with his life, taken a position in his parents' business, been a good family man. He would've made a great dad and his parents would've been amazing grandparents, and he would have made a good life for them.
Needless to say, his life would have been very different. Sometimes, when he sees photos of his cousins with their families on social media, or when he talks to his parents, he wonders, if that would've been a better choice.
But his answer is pretty clear. It would not. He just needs one look at Bea to remember that; or think of Noor, or all the others that he could help and who wouldn't have made it without him.
(And a darker reason is, he couldn't have dealt with the guilt of not helping Eric in any other way; it would've destroyed him, and he knows that.)

Emma wakes up with a jolt, her nightmares have been coming back with a vengeance. Alistair had warned her this could happen once she was around her sisters again. That she will be reliving her darkest moments and may still find them very painful and tiring. Emma can’t help but agree as she lays there and tries to calm her breathing and thumping heart.
Once she manages to do that, Emma slowly opens her eyes as her body continues to tremble and looks at the clock on her bedside table.
5:25AM
Emma frowns, feeling like it should be at least two in the morning and not six, because she does not feel at all rested.
Emma slowly turns to gaze at her still sleeping girlfriend. The right side of her lip tugs upward in a slight smile and Emma stretches, trying not to jostle Diana. Next she listens to the heavy breathing or the snores coming from all over the house. Momentarily realising she is the only one awake at the early hour. Her ears then pick up on a familiar, gentle snore in the next room and it feels like her heart is being stabbed.
Lena.
Emma carefully sits up and runs her hands through her hair. Being near Lena has been- difficult. Part of Emma wants to hate her ex, to inflict the same kind of heartache back onto the raven haired bea- woman. While another part wants to hold Lena close and never let go.
Emma rubs her hands over her exhausted, itchy eyes and slowly sits up. Her head feels heavy and chest tight, but she decides the best thing would be to go out and get some air. To get out of the suffocating house.
She silently gets ready, putting on her blue jeans, a white tank top, a wine coloured jumper, and a thick, multi coloured, patchwork hoodie. She wraps up warm despite the fact she doesn’t really feel the cold anymore. Emma takes another look at the still sleeping Diana before tiptoeing to the bathroom to use the toilet. When she washes her hands in the sink her eyes naturally lift up to the mirror. She freezes as she takes in her haggard appearance. Her cheekbones are more prominent than ever and her eyes are getting duller by the day.
Emma quickly lowers her eyes and turns on the face modifier. Immediately her face fills out making it look healthy again and her hair takes on a golden tone. She hates having to wear it, the deception she is causing, but she can’t ruin everyone's downtime.
‘It’s always about you isn’t it? Alex and I are always shoved to the side.’ Kara’s menacing voice enters Emma’s mind, making her hands shake as she dries her hands.
Quickly exiting the bathroom Emma silently makes her way down the stairs, managing to expertly miss each creak in the floorboards as she goes. A trick she learnt at a young age to not disturb any of her family when she went out for her little adventures.
She reaches the back door and unlocks it, as she opens the door the frosty early morning air hits her and Emma quickly steps outside to stop the cold air from filling the house.
Emma takes deep, steadying breaths of the cool, early morning air and leans on the railing. Even in the dark she can make out the sea and a sense of longing bubbles up within her. Making her mind up Emma goes back into the house and leaves a note on the newly repaired island, stating she is going down to the beach to watch the sunrise. Silently she wishes she was surfing but her board has never been found since Kara plucked her out of the sea over seven months ago.
Emma grabs her jacket and a bubble hat before quietly leaving the house, she checks the windows but there is no sign of light or movement, so Emma continues to make her way to the beach.
As she walks down the dark path, Emma reflects on how different life was last year. That the issues she faced, like becoming a solo artist, the album, the tour, were nothing compared to now.
‘Maybe because you knew your sisters always had your back.’ A cold, dark voice said in the back of her mind.
‘No!’ Emma shakes her head and immediately rejects the notion. She marches all the way to the beach and storms onto it before sitting heavily onto the soft, dry sand.
Taking a few deep breaths Emma lifts her head up to the slowly brightening sky and watches the stars gradually fade. Naturally she finds the area in space where Krypton used to be. The familiar heartache for Kara hits her and her shoulders sag.
‘At least I still have my world.’ Emma thinks mournfully.
‘Do you?’ The small, dark voice asks again.
‘Shut up, shut up, shut up!’ Emma lowers her head and rubs her aching forehead. Realising she forgot to put her glasses on. ‘Idiot.’
‘Hmm you are.’ The dark voice confirms.
‘Nope, not doing this.’ Emma shakes her head lightly and inhales a deep breath. Slowly Emma lets it out and focuses on the gentle lapping waves in front of her. She takes her converses and socks off and places her feet on the cool sand. Stretching her toes a few times, she enjoys the feel of the soft sand around her toes. Then Emma pulls her knees up to her chest and rests her chin on top of them.
She manages to achieve her goal and just be in the moment. Not thinking about anything else but the picturesque sea and the slowly morphing colours of the sky.
A melody starts playing in her mind and soon Emma is singing in her head, she mouths the words she desperately wants to sing out.
Some time later she hears the sound of feet approaching her and glances over her shoulder to see Diana.
“Good morning.” The demi-goddess utters while holding a travel mug in front of Emma’s face, who takes it gratefully. She silently hums at smelling the warm, rich hot chocolate within.
Diana sits close beside her, so close their sides are pressed together. “Are you okay?” Diana asks gently and sips from her own cup.
Emma nods and copies Diana’s action. She silently hums again as the warm, velvet chocolate slides down her throat.
“Why didn’t you wake me?” Diana asks and Emma can tell by her tone she is unhappy.
Taking a long sip Emma lowers the cup to wedge it carefully in the sand and lifts her hands to sign.
“You looked so peaceful and I did not want to disturb you.” Emma explains and Diana juts her jaw to the side, clearly not happy by Emma’s answer.
“Alright, how are you feeling?”
Emma exhales heavily.
“I know you hate being asked that but I also know the past few days, even weeks, have been hard on you.”
“It’s been hard for both of us-”
“No, Emma, don’t do that. Do not try and downplay what you are feeling.” Diana interrupts the blonde and places a hand on Emma’s thigh.
High on Emma’s thigh.
Making the blonde’s breath hitch at the contact.
Diana smirks and shakes her head. “And don’t even think about turning on your charm to distract me.”
Emma pouts her lips and pulls an adorable puppy dog face.
“Nope, that is not going to work on me, I am immune to your-”
Slowly Emma leans in and places a kiss on Diana’s soft lips. Instantly the brunette responds and kisses back. Moaning deeply Diana runs her tongue against Emma’s lower lip, asking for entry, which Emma grants and soon the couple are heavily making out. Hands wandering everywhere.
A slight twinge of guilt crops up in Emma’s mind at changing the subject, she doesn’t want to communicate about her feelings. Not right now.
‘If not now… When?’ Her mind questions, but she pushes it aside in favour of kissing Diana.
Their kiss heats up further, bodies flushed against each other, moving as one, hands grasping and Diana’s moans fill the air. Causing Emma’s arousal to heighten even more at the sound.
Her hand runs smoothly down Diana’s body and between her legs, but Diana breaks the kiss and pulls back, her breathing heavy.
“Not here. We got lucky yesterday- not getting caught in the forest.” Diana breathes out, trying to catch her breath.
Emma pouts and slams her head on Diana’s shoulder. Trying to calm her racing heart.
Diana chuckles warmly and kisses Emma’s head. Emma slowly sits back up and moves to partly lean against her girlfriend. Silently humming when Diana wraps her arms around her.
“I understand why you don’t want to communicate right now. But I’m here when you feel able too.” Diana says softly.
Emma lets out a heavy sigh and reaches for her mug. She sips the cooling drink while focusing on some surfers who have just entered the beach nearby. They wave in greeting and both Emma and Diana wave back. Emma desperately wishes she could join them.
Soon the sun has fully risen and brightens the beach around them. “How about we head back?” Diana asks and kisses her cheek.
Emma nods and rubs the sand off her feet and puts her converses back on, not bothering to put her socks back on as well. She steadily stands and winces as pain shoots through her head and her hands shoot up to hold it.
“Astéri?” Diana yelps and jumps to her feet.
“Forgot my glasses.” Emma signs while squinting her eyes in pain.
“Emma.” Diana lightly scolds. “Are you able to walk back?”
Emma nods and Diana takes Emma’s hand to lead her back to the house.
The walk is silent but Emma’s mind is racing. As they draw near Emma spots Ruby gazing out of the window by the back door. Her serious, concerned face breaks out into one of pure excitement and she quickly disappears from the window.
Emma’s eyes narrow ever so slightly in suspicion and wonders what is going on. She glances at Diana who turns to give her a warm smile. Seemingly unaware of what Emma has just witnessed.
They climb up onto the patio and Emma opens the door, greeted by the warmth of the house and the smells of bacon, sausages and eggs.
“Emma! Diana!” Ruby excitedly claps her hands and rushes over to them, making Emma wince at the noise but the blonde pulls the teen into a hug.
“Just in time for breakfast.” Eliza smiles at her daughter and greets Diana. “Ah! Take your shoes off! I don’t want you trailing sand through here!”
Emma nods and slides her converses off. Making sure all the sand was gone from her feet before moving into the house. Diana does the same and helps Emma take her jacket and hat off.
Emma turns to head upstairs until Diana stops her.
“I’ll go get them.” She explains and races up the stairs before Emma could stop her.
The blonde instead sinks into one of the stools by the island. A familiar weariness takes over her as she yawns deeply.
“Sweetheart? Are you okay?” Her Mom asks and Emma nods while pinching a piece of bacon from the overflowing plate. “Ah! Emma!” Eliza scolds but smiles brightly at her daughter as she starts to bite into the crispy piece of bacon.
“Hey Peanut.” Alex greets Emma while also trying to nab a juicier piece of bacon. But their Mom stops her.
“Alexandra! No!” Eliza scolds and quickly takes the plate into the dining room.
Emma glances down at her piece and snaps it in half, offering the bigger part to her sister.
“Thanks.” Alex says quietly and takes it. “Can I give you a hug?”
Emma instinctively nods and Alex wraps her arms around her. Emma flinches for a millisecond but returns the hug and rests her head on her sister’s chest. Momentarily closing her eyes at the familiar smell of her sister and the feelings of safety that surges through her.
“Come on you two, breakfast is ready.” J’onn interrupts them as he picks up other plates of food to take on through to the dining room.
Emma sighs heavily and pulls away from Alex. She slides off the stool and straightens up, turning to the redhead who stares up at her with widened eyes.
Emma tilts her head in confusion.
“You’re- you’re taller.” Alex states with a frown.
“Alex come on.” J’onn says over his shoulder.
“But she’s taller.” Alex calls after him.
J’onn turns in the doorway and gives her a small smile. “I can explain at the table.”
Alex quickly follows after him as Diana comes down the stairs.
“She finally noticed you are taller than her?” Diana smirks and holds out Emma’s glasses. Which the blonde takes gratefully and gives Diana a small smile as she feels the effects of the glasses.
The couple walk into the dining room and immediately everyone turns to look at Emma. Making her halt.
“How could you not notice she was taller?” Lucy exclaims to Alex in amazement. “I mean, she’s the same height as Diana!” Lucy points out.
Emma sinks back behind her girlfriend at the attention she is getting.
“Well, I noticed right away.” Sam says and starts plating up some scrambled eggs onto her plate.
“Why didn’t you say anything?” Alex asks with wide eyes.
“I didn’t think it was a big deal.” Sam answers with a knowing smile.
Kara suddenly stands. “I think you are both wrong.” She moves over to the couple and Diana slides out of the way to sit next to Lucy. But as Kara approaches her sister, her eyes widen as her head tilts upwards. “You are taller! Since when?!”
Suddenly Alex jumps to her feet and races around the table to her sisters as Kara measures their difference in height with her hand.
“But we were always the same height!” Alex whines, as if Emma has caused the ultimate betrayal.
“Stand back to back!” Kara orders and Emma momentarily looks around the room at the bemused Superfriends. She turns around and feels Alex press her back against hers. Feeling her sister’s head stop near the bottom of her own head.
“There’s four inches between you.” Kara says in shock, dumbfounded by her discovery.
“No you're lying.” Alex spins around to look at Kara’s hands as she shows the difference.
Emma inhales deeply and lets it out steadily as she slowly turns back around.
“You must be wearing shoes or-” Alex grabs her sister and looks down at her feet. She falters when she sees Emma is barefoot. “Wha-” The redhead breathes out and snaps her head back up to stare at Emma. Blinking when she realises she is indeed looking up at her sister instead of being eye level. “How?”
“The serum.” Brainy plainly explains at the table as he cuts into his food.
Alex turns to stare at him and things click into place in her mind. Her eyes flick to Lena, who is staring at Emma with no emotion in her face, as if she is studying a science project. But Alex catches it. A look of grief flashes within her green eyes and the tell tale vein appears on her forehead.
Their eyes meet and Lena quickly lowers her head down to her empty plate.
“How about we enjoy our breakfast?” Eliza offers and the sisters return to their seats with Emma taking her usual place next to Ruby and Diana.
“I mean-” Winn begins as he stares at the blonde across from him. “I’m with Alex, I didn’t notice.”
“Oh babe you are a genius but so oblivious.” Ayla laughs and kisses her husband’s cheek. She winks at Emma who gives her a slight smile.
The discussion continues about what the Superfriends did and did not notice about Emma when she returned.
Emma listens and slowly nibbles her food. Not feeling particularly hungry anymore but knowing she needs to eat. Plus also knowing it will cause questions if she doesn’t.
“As we know from previous tests, the serum is altering and transforming Emma’s DNA.” Brainy states sometime later as the conversation reaches a lull. “So there is no surprise that the serum has also altered Emma’s body, the obvious being her height.”
“Yea but did it have to be four inches?” Alex mutters while stabbing a sausage. Sam bites her lip, trying not to laugh and instead places a kiss on Alex’s head.
“Anyway, I would like to discuss something else.” Eliza says, ending the conversation surrounding her youngest daughter. “I was thinking, as we’ve decided to stay here for the holidays, that we start decorating the house and get a tree?”
“Ooo can we?” Ruby says excitedly and beams at Eliza.
“Of course! Although we will need to get mostly new decorations.”
At this all three of her daughters look at her in confusion.
“I’m sorry girls, I don’t know what happened but I believe a lot of the decorations got accidentally thrown away in the remodelling of the house.”
Emma sinks back into her chair in disappointment. Feeling like another piece of her Dad was gone.
“That’s okay!” Kara pipes up happily. “We can go to the store and get new ones!”
“Would it be better to go back to NC to get them? There is a new christmas shop in the centre that’s open all year round.” Nia offers and Eliza nods.
“That could work.”
“Can I come?!” Ruby spins to ask her Mom who shakes her head as she chews her food. “Ah come on Mom! Please!”
“Rubes, we’ve talked about this. The safest place for you right now is staying here.” Alex tells the teen.
“But Ma-”
“No buts.” Sam says in a hard tone. Ending the debate.
Ruby crosses her arms and huffs loudly, turning away from her Moms and pouts.
“Maybe we could play a game of chess?” Lena offers to the teenager and smiles at her. “See if you can finally beat me?” Lena lifts her eyebrow up in a challenge.
A smile breaks out across Ruby’s face and she uncrosses her arms. “You’re on!” The teen continues eating while plans for the day are discussed.
“- and I think it would be safer if Em stays too.” Kara says, causing Emma to stare at her. “I would feel happier knowing you were here.”
“But I want to help choose.” Emma signs and silently huffs, allowing heavy air to blow out of her nose.
“Even though we know who did the attack on L-Corp we are nowhere near pinpointing where they are.” J’onn explains
“Fine, I do not mind staying.” Emma signs and rests her head on Diana’s shoulder, somewhat relieved today isn’t going to be hectic.
“I’m happy to stay too, it gives me a chance to catch up on the book I’m reading.” Lucy nods and smiles happily.
“I’ll stay too.” J’onn announces and Eliza gives him a grateful kiss.
“Do you want me to stay?” Diana softly asks Emma, her eyes warily flicking over at Lena before focusing back on Emma.
“You can go, maybe hold Kara back from buying everything shiny in the store?”
“Hey!” Kara yells in outrage at seeing Emma’s signs and Diana chuckles at the Superhero.
“No promises.” Diana smirks. “But are you sure you’ll be okay?”
“Yes. I will be fine.” Emma signs and Diana nods, placing her hand high on Emma’s thigh.
Emma gulps and bites the inside of her lip before continuing to eat. Diana doesn’t move her hand for the rest of the meal.
Soon everyone gets ready to leave and Emma helps take the dirty dishes into the kitchen.
“Now sweetheart if you can do some washing up that will be greatly appreciated but don’t worry if you don’t feel up to it.” Eliza says while running her hand through Emma’s golden hair. Her eyes study her daughter intently, like her motherly instincts are tingling but unable to find the cause.
Emma nods and gives her Mom a warm smile.
“Mmm, come here baby girl.” Eliza envelopes her daughter in a tight hug and Emma gently squeezes back. “I love you Emma.”
Emma taps her Mom’s back three times. “I love you too.” Making Eliza scrunch her face up before stepping away.
“So, message any of us and we’ll come right back.”
Emma nods in understanding and watching as everyone gathers to step through the portal. Her eyes settle on Sam and Alex giving Ruby a lecture on being good while they are gone.
This is disrupted as Kara bounds over to her like an excited puppy with a big grin on her face, which Emma can’t help but copy. “Anything you need in National City?” Kara asks and Emma shakes her head. “Okay, well let us know if you think of anything.”
“Kara, they’re ready.” Ben calls and Kara zips to his side, taking his hand in hers and they smile lovingly at each other.
A purple light fills the back room and the group disappears. Leaving Lucy, Lena, Ruby, J’onn and Emma.
Emma is the first to move and heads to the piano which is bathed in sunlight. This was the very piano she sat at as a child in her grandparent’s house and managed to copy the melody of a song playing on the radio.
Making everyone stop and gape at her in amazement as she flawlessly copied whatever she heard.
Her Dad exclaimed happily how his daughter was a musical prodigy to all who would listen and readily show off his youngest daughter’s talents while Alex watched from the sidelines.
The family heirloom then moved to the Danvers house and still plays beautifully.
Emma sits and takes a deep breath as she lifts the lid. She gently caresses the ivory keys to check the piano is still in tune and can almost feel the history within the keys and the presence of those who played before her.
Emma seamlessly starts playing ‘Clair De Lune’ filling the house with the peaceful tune as the others go to do their own things.
Lucy grabs her book and curls up on the sofa close to Emma to listen to the music as she reads. J’onn does the same and chooses a book to read from the filled overflowing bookshelves, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the house.
Ruby and Lena start playing chess nearby on the coffee table and Lena easily wins the first game. Ruby immediately calls for a rematch and Emma’s eyes momentarily focus on them from time to time in the mirror above the piano and watch their moves. She smirks at the trap Lena is setting up for the teenager.
“Ah no I didn't see that!” Ruby yells and Lena’s rich laughter fills the room.
Emma can’t help but smile at Lena’s laugh and continues to watch the pair.
After a few more songs, Emma starts playing the melody that had been going around her mind this morning. Emma sings the lyrics in her head along with the melody and longs for the time she can sing them properly. She doesn’t notice J’onn lowering his book and focusing on her as he listens and he swallows deeply. Or the others in the room pausing to listen as well to the beautiful, hopeful melody. Or green eyes watching her mournfully.
She softly ends the song and keeps her fingers on the keys, allowing the notes to slowly fade out. She silently sighs as she raises her hands and pulls the cover over to protect the ivory keys.
A little clap makes her turn around and Lucy grins at her, the other three join in too and Emma does a little bow. She stumbles a bit as she stands, causing Lucy and Lena to frown at each other, while J’onn focuses back on his book.
Emma makes her way over to the kitchen to get a drink and to also start on the washing up from this morning.
She glances at the repaired island and her stomach still clenches at the sight. Despite her Mom saying it was okay, the implications of her powers still worries Emma greatly. Bruce and Kate have kept in contact and Emma messages them with anything she notices or times her powers have tried to surge forward and her health declines. They continue to study her blood work but still come to the same conclusion that she needs to keep her powers to the minimum.
She fills a bowl with warm water and soap, deciding to wash everything by hand and not use the dishwasher. Finding the motion of cleaning is somewhat soothing the battle raging in her mind. But as she starts her mind begins to fixate on whether she should tell her family about what is happening.
Especially after the horrific sight of herself in the mirror this morning before she re-engaged the face modifier, changing her haggard appearance.
Emma was also painfully aware that if any of her family saw her the way she truly looks, there would be hell to pay. For both her and Diana… And Robyn, Bruce and Kate… And J’onn. The list keeps getting longer in her mind and Emma can’t help but feel that a few of the Superfriends, namely Alex, are catching on that something isn’t quite right.
Plus Emma knows the clock is ticking. She can feel it. The ever building pressure under her skin and head, like a time bomb. So really, she should tell her family what is going on… Right?
When the drainer starts getting a bit overcrowded she hears a pair of hesitant footsteps approach behind her.
“Do you need a dryer?” Lena’s voice asks softly and Emma pauses. Slowly she twists around and gazes tentatively at her ex. This is the first time Lena has properly spoken or been close to her and Emma feels her breathing grow shallow.
The wait makes Lena uncharacteristically shift her weight from one foot to the other. Emma immediately notices, guessing Lena is taking her pause as a sign of reluctance and the longer Emma waits the more Lena looks ready to retreat, until Emma nods and gives her a small smile.
“Okay.” Lena copies Emma’s smile and grabs a kitchen towel to start drying the dishes.
Emma turns back to the sink and feels her heart starting to speed up at the proximity of which they were standing. Almost like there is a buzz of electricity flickering in the air. She clenches her jaw and feels awkward at not being able to start a conversation, so instead she focuses on her task and scrubs away at a pan. Wondering, if she could, what she would say to Lena.
“You’re going to scrub through the pan if you keep going.” Lena’s voice breaks through Emma’s thoughts and the blonde stops. Noticing indeed, she has scrubbed the top layer of the pan away.
‘Opps.’ Emma sighs heavily and places it to the side.
“Hey.” Lena’s soft voice makes Emma’s eyes snap up to concerned green ones. “Are you okay?”
Emma nods and gives her ex a small smile before continuing her task. Wondering why she is becoming more comfortable in Lena’s presence, where her heart doesn’t feel like it is being constantly stabbed over and over. Especially when their eyes connect.
She figures it was due to the many months they had been apart and instead there is only a dull ache. Although there was still the longing to wrap the raven haired bea- woman in her arms.
But then Lena’s words would replay in her mind, the main reason why she ran from her family and friends for so long.
As they near the end of their task, Emma hears Lena take in a deep, shaky breath, making her eyes flick back over to mournful green ones. “I, erm, wanted to-” Lena falters and her eyes lower to the plate she was drying. “I wanted to apologise… Fo- for everything.”
Emma feels her stomach clench in surprise. Lena looks so deflated, so drained. The fire inside of her has become nothing more than a flicker of flame.
Emma is ready to lift her hands out of the water to communicate but Lena continues.
“I know this doesn’t make up for what I did but-” Lena lifts her head and swallows deeply when their eyes connect again. “I am sorry.”
Emma searches Lena’s face, recognising the agony within the words, the quiver of her lips and the tears gathering in her eyes.
She exhales deeply through her nose and turns back to the washing up. Unsure of what she can sign.
Can she forgive Lena?
She notices her silence makes Lena fiddle with the chain around her neck. Something Emma has seen Lena do a lot of.
“Look, I don’t expect you to ever forgive me. But, if you could bear to be somewhat friends with me, it would mean a great deal.”
Emma gazes back at the raven haired woman and she slowly nods. Knowing that Lena will always be a part of Kara and Sam’s lives and the best thing for everyone would be that the pair can be civil with each other.
Raising her hands, Emma signs.
“Thank you for your apology. I do need time and we do need to talk, but I’m not ready.”
Seeing her signs Lena lets out a ragged breath and breathes in deeply, as if she had been holding it, waiting for Emma’s answer.
“And maybe try not to shoot her in the back next time?”
Lena narrows her eyes slightly at Emma’s joking expression.
“I wasn’t aiming for her, the gun went off.”
“Yea, yea, likely story.”
Without thinking Lena flicks the towel towards Emma and catches her thigh with a crack.
Emma jumps and lets out a heavy breath, like a silent yelp.
“Lo- Emma! I’m sorry-”
But a load of water gets flicked towards her, making her squeal and Emma grabs another dish towel.
“No! Emma!” Lena shrieks and runs to the other side of the island. Knowing from experience that Emma’s towel whips are lethal.
Emma smirks, wrapping one end of the towel around her hand and winds it to create the whip.
Emma prowls forward and silently laughs as Lena backs up with her hands in the air. The pair fall seamlessly into familiar territory. She lunges around the island and flicks her towel towards Lena’s thighs but the raven haired beauty moves out of the way, making Emma lift an eyebrow.
This continues for a few minutes as Emma chases Lena around the house, toying with her as she snaps the towel.
J’onn, Ruby and Lucy watch them and laugh.
“No please! I surrender!” Lena laughs as the back door opens, announcing the arrival of Eliza and some of the other Superfriends as they pile in.
“What’s going on?” Eliza’s bemused voice makes Emma and Lena screech to a halt. Emma smiles at her Mom as she winds the towel back up while Lena looks a bit sheepish.
“They’ve been chasing each other around the house for ages!” Ruby says dramatically.
“It hasn’t been for ag-ESSARGH!” Lena screeches as Emma whips her ass, a satisfying crack fills the room. Emma quickly retreats and dives behind Lucy on the sofa.
“Nuh uh! Don’t drag me into this!” Lucy yelps, placing the book over her head and Emma snuggles into her. Her bright eyes poking out over Lucy’s shoulder.
“Just you wait, Danvers.” Lena says threateningly at the same time Kara, Ben, Alex, Sam and Diana enter the house.
“What are we waiting for?” Kara asks and those in the room laugh.
“Emma and Lena had a whipping battle.” Ruby explains with a grin.
“Whipping?” Diana looks between the two, her eyebrows knitting together and Emma immediately stands to explain.
“Yea like with kitchen towels.” Ruby explains instead and Emma engulfs Diana in a hug and momentarily frowns when Diana doesn’t hug her back right away.
“I see.” Diana says in a monotone voice. Her eyes snapping to Lena, making Sam frown at the brunette’s expression.
Emma pulls away with a big smile and lifts her hands to sign. “So, what did you get?”
“Sit down and we’ll show you!” Eliza exclaims and the five along with a few others, settle on the sofa and are shown the decorations that have been chosen. Emma catches Alex and Sam quietly leaving the room with other bags but decides not to bring it up.
Instead she focuses on Kara excitedly pulling out the different decorations.
“Did you get a tree?”
“Yea, it’s outside.” Alex answers as she reenters the room.
“Can we decorate it now?” Ruby bounces in her seat.
“How about we have a late lunch first and then decorate?” Eliza asks and Ruby nods in agreement.
A feast of bread and cheeses are placed on the island and the Superfriends dig in. Telling the five who stayed behind all they did and saw in NC.
“Plus every shop I went into was playing Emma’s christmas album!” Winn cheers and toasts Emma with his drink.
“Right?!” Nia exclaims, both missing Emma’s face fall.
“Yes we had the same experience.” Brainy agrees.
“I bet it will go number one again.” Ruby says and beams at Emma who quickly returns it with a small smile.
She lowers her eyes to the plate in her lap and swallows deeply. Feeling her throat constrict and tighten with emotion.
Diana’s arm loops around her and Emma rests her head on Diana’s shoulder.
The conversation continues and Emma tunes everyone out as she continues to eat. Trying to stop the tears threatening to prick her eyes. Remembering that night she performed in National City. Feeling like she was on top of the world as the music swelled around her. The feelings of absolute euphoria that night.
After lunch the next thing the Superfriends do is prep the backroom for the tree. They place it in the middle of the room so everyone can help decorate it. Alex puts on a christmas playlist and the group dances and laughs while doing the festive task.
Emma bends down to pick up a bauble when her hand gets accidentally grasped by Lena.
“Oh sorry!” Lena snatches her hand away quickly.
Emma picks the item up and hands it to the raven haired woman.
“No, you got it first. It’s fine.” Lena tries to laugh it off but Emma takes Lena’s arm and places it in her hand. Neither notices Diana watching them carefully.
“Diana?” Ruby asks, drawing the Amazonian’s attention away from Emma and Lena. “Can you help me put the star on the tree?”
“Sure.” Diana says cheerfully, but makes Sam pause at the forced smile the brunette is giving and she nudges Alex to get her attention. Diana bends and lifts Ruby effortlessly up and the group cheer as the star is placed on top of the tree.
Once the tree is completed Eliza makes hot chocolate while the tree is placed near the back door, allowing it to stand proudly without anything blocking it.
“Great work team.” J’onn says and places his hands on his hips.
“Yea, we did a good job huh?” Alex smiles and playfully nudges her shoulder into J’onn.
Then, they hear it.
Emma’s voice comes over the speakers and a blur rushes from the house.
“Emma!” Sam chases after the blur, both running without shoes on.
Sam’s heart pounds as she races behind the blonde. Although the sun had set long ago she can still make Emma out clearly in the moonlight and follow her through the dark forest.
They finally end up on a huge cliff overlooking the forest as Emma collapses to her knees and silently sobs. Placing her hands over her ears as she cries.
“Hey Em.” Sam tries to soothe the blonde and kneels next to her, making sure to keep her distance and not touch her. Remembering what Alistair had told the Superfriends about how to be around Emma when she goes into this state. “I’m here, I got you, you are okay.” Sam repeats reassurances over and over.
Her phone pings and she quickly glances at it.
Alex: Do you need help?
Sam: No, I think she’s calming down. I’ll let you know if I need you.
Sam places her phone back in her pocket and watches as Emma slowly calms down. Until she lowers her hands from her ears and opens her eyes.
“Hello there.” Sam gives Emma a reassuring smile.
“Sorry-”
“Nothing to be sorry about Em.” Sam interrupts. “You did nothing wrong.”
Emma lowers her head and takes a deep breath. She places her legs out in front of her and sits cross legged.
Sam copies her and waits. Letting Emma take the lead in what she needs.
“Congratulations by the way.” Emma signs.
“About what?”
“Your engagement. I do not think I have congratulated you yet.”
“Thank you. I am very lucky to have Alex accept it.”
Emma frowns and shakes her head in bewilderment. “Alex would never have said no, you two are perfect together.”
Sam swallows deeply. “Thank you. You know I emailed you about it, to ask for your blessing, even though I knew you weren’t looking at them I just-” Sam lets out a heavy breath and Emma takes her hand. “I wanted to include you as well. Even if you weren’t ready to come home, it just felt so right to do it on thanksgiving you know?” Sam gazes at Emma who nods. Thinking about the ring that she had left in the bedside drawer in Lena’s apartment. “Because I was so thankful she chose me, after everything she has been through with Maggie and Kelly. The fact she willingly took my hand and we jumped together.” Tears fill Sam’s eyes and she sniffs heavily. “I love her so much and I would do anything for her.”
Emma smiles and reaches out to wipe a few of the tears away.
“Happy tears I promise. Actually I want to ask for your blessing. I asked your Mom and Kara’s, but it would mean a lot if I had yours too.”
“Of course you have my blessing. You have always been like a sister to me.” Emma signs, making Sam pull the blonde into a hug. Momentarily forgetting Emma’s state a few minutes before. But Emma holds the brunette tightly, knowing she can’t hurt her. After a while Sam pulls away and wipes her face. Emma taps her arm so Sam focuses on her again.
“But if you hurt Alex, I will come for you.” Emma signs and raises a threatening eyebrow.
“Of course.” Sam nods seriously. “I know it's useless to promise that I will never hurt her because I know I will make mistakes, we both will, but I will never leave her.”
Emma nods and looks out at the starlit forest.
“It’s beautiful up here.”
“It is where Alex and I would hike to when we wanted an adventure. Became our little spot and we spoke about anything and everything up here. Making a pact that whatever is said here, stays here. Kara would join us a few times, but I think she understood how important this place was to us.”
“Well I’m honoured to be here with you.”
Emma takes Sam’s hand and gives it a squeeze. She stands and almost topples over.
“Wow! Hey! I got you.” Sam yelps while jumping up and catching her. “Are you okay to run back or do you want me to carry you?”
Emma exhales heavily and motions to climb on Sam’s back. Once secured, Sam runs back to the house, holding on tight to Emma’s legs. Her mind racing as quick as her feet.
Once they approach the house, Sam screeches to a halt and lets Emma down. They walk to the back door and quietly enter, the smell of the pine tree immediately fills their noses.
“Sweetheart you look frozen!” Eliza exclaims and grabs a blanket from the sofa, wrapping tightly around her shaking daughter. “And you’re burning up. I think you should head straight to bed.”
Emma pulls a face and pouts. She hadn’t felt cold until a few moments ago and her teeth started to chatter.
“No, this isn’t up for a debate.” Eliza says firmly and manoeuvres Emma to the stairs.
Diana quickly stands and follows them as choruses of goodnights were spoken by the Superfriends.
Once Emma is up the stairs she hears Alex immediately ask Sam what had happened but she couldn’t hear Sam’s response as her Mom pulls her into her room.
“Please get out of those cold clothes and into your pyjamas. I’ll go down and make you a mug of hot honey and lemon to warm you up.” Eliza orders and passes Diana in the corridor as she heads downstairs.
A wave of fatigue hits Emma and she struggles to pull her hoodie over her head.
“Here! Let me help.” Diana quickly rushes forward to help Emma get changed and use the bathroom. Finally the couple get into bed and Diana holds Emma close. She frowns at how warm Emma’s forehead feels and decides to call Bruce. “Maybe we need Kara up here, she’s practically a heated blanket.”
Emma sleepily nods. Liking the sound of that idea as her body continues to shake.
“Kara, can you come up here please? And bring Alex too.” Diana speaks out and sure enough she hears two sets of footsteps climbing the stairs.
A gentle knock sounds on the door.
“Come in.” Diana says and the two sisters walk through with mugs.
“We brought you hot chocolate too.” Kara holds out the mug for Diana.
“Thank you, but I need to make a phone call.” Diana says as she unwraps her arms from Emma. Ignoring the deep frown her girlfriend is giving her, Diana takes the mug and leaves the room. Allowing Alex and Kara to climb into the bed and wrap Emma in a warm hug. Emma snuggles into Kara’s warmth and squeezes Alex’s arm.
“I’m sorry about what happened. With the playlist. I didn’t think to check.” Alex says sadly but Emma squeezes her arm again. Trying to reassure her sister it was okay.
“Ooo, your honey and lemon.” Kara turns to get it from the bedside table.
Emma sits up and gratefully takes it. She sips at the warm liquid and her shaking soon stops.
“Better?” Alex asks and Emma nods.
“I-” Kara starts and stops immediately as she fiddles with her glasses in embarrassment.
Both sisters stare at her to continue.
“It’s nothing.” Kara tries to wave them off but Emma takes her hand. “It’s silly, don’t mind me.” Kara says before sipping her drink.
Emma turns to Alex to communicate she needs to press further.
“Kara, please tell us what's going on.”
“I, erm, just er-” Kara stumbles on her words before taking a deep breath. “IhavenotsleptwithBenyetbutIreallywanttobutdonotknowwhattodoashehasnothadanybottomsurgerysohestillhasavaginaandIamworriedIamgoingtomessitup.”
Alex blinks in confusion whereas Emma’s mouth drops open as she understands Kara perfectly. Finishing her drink Emma passes it to Alex and focuses on Kara. Alex moves to the end of the bed to allow Emma to shuffle backwards to communicate. Leaving the sisters in a perfect triangle.
“Have you spoken to him about it?”
“Spoken to him about what?” Alex asks immediately, stopping Kara from answering.
“We’ve touched on the subject and almost done it but I keep getting flustered.”
“Done what?”
“Sex.” Emma signs to Alex before turning back to Kara. “Do you remember how you felt with Mon-El? How you were in a similar panic?”
Kara nods and fiddles with her glasses.
“It is okay to feel nervous and I would recommend you talk to him about it. When you do end up having sex, focus on what makes him and you feel good, focus on the feelings. Ask what he likes and dislikes, let him guide you, have fun and play around. Also sex does not always have to be about penetration but laughing and exploring each others bodies.”
“Yea, that’s how I felt with Maggie. I had never slept with a woman before and it terrified me.” Alex admits as she taps her mug. “But she was so kind and patient and as it turns out, I didn’t need to worry. Which I’m sure will be the same for you and Ben.” Alex smiles at Kara who still looks a bit unsure. “You have the dampeners right?”
Kara nods and plays with her glasses again.
“I’d talk to him first. Communicate how you feel, it doesn’t have to be a long and detailed discussion, just be honest.” Emma signs and smiles sadly at her sister. Remembering how it was with Lena, how they dove into it without a second thought… The same way she did with Diana. Maybe she should have waited as well.
Suddenly the room whirls around Emma and she leans heavily against the bed frame, letting out a heavy breath as she scrunches up her eyes.
“Em?” Both her sisters ask and Emma snaps her eyes open.
“You okay?” Alex asks with a frown.
Emma momentarily pauses and stares at Alex, deciding whether she should come clean about what’s going on. But instead, she nods.
“Feeling tired, I think the time difference is still hitting me.”
“Makes sense.” Kara says softly and rubs Emma’s arm but Alex continues to study her sister intently. Noticing how dull her sister’s eyes are, how fatigued they look.
But before she can ask anything Diana comes back into the room.
“Ruby wants to know if you two want to join the game they are starting?”
“What game is it?” Kara asks with a smile.
“I- erm, can’t remember, sorry.”
“It’s okay.” Kara turns to Emma. “I think you should get some sleep. I’ll see you tomorrow.” Kara opens her arms and Emma falls into them, feeling Alex move to give her a hug too.
“And don’t be afraid to wake any of us.”
“Yea, that’s what sisters are for.” Kara repeats the words Emma would utter to Kara whenever she’d climb into Kara’s bed to soothe her after a night terror.
The sisters pull away and leave the room. Diana closes the door behind them and turns to Emma, giving her a sorrowful look and her eyes fill with tears.
Emma motions for her to come over and Diana sniffs as she places her phone on the bedside table and climbs into bed.
They hold each other close and although Emma wants to ask Diana what Bruce has said. She finds her eyes slowly closing and before she can stop herself she falls into a deep sleep.

Inquisitor as a Companion: Maria Cadash
@little-lightning-lavellan started this amazing trend and I have gratuitously stolen the template from them. I finished this up this morning as a good distraction for not feeling well!
Is your OC a Companion in the Dragon Age series? What would it be like for a player to select them to join their party for quests (or romance them, perhaps? 👀)
You have selected Maria to join your party! (art made by   @lavellanvibes)
Race: Dwarf
Affiliation: Carta
Gender: Female
Class: Rogue/Archer
Specialization: Assassin
Background
Maria was born in 9:11 Dragon, the eldest daughter of Roland and Meera Cadash. She has a sister who is two years younger than her - Beatrix Cadash. When Maria was four, her mother died in a Carta mission gone wrong. Her father had been in line to take over the Carta, but fell apart after the death of his wife. He seems to have spent the next ten years in a bottle, but Maria rarely says anything negative about him.
Most of Maria’s childhood was spent in the care of her grandmother, the indomitable Zarra Cadash. Although funds were frequently tight, Zarra did her best to raise her granddaughters with a sense of dwarven pride. Maria is well aware of the history of House Cadash, the abandonment of her family and thaig by Ozammar, and the fate of most of her Ancestors. Her grandmother is very traditional and while Maria may jokingly laugh at most of her traditions, she still studiously carries them out.
Maria quickly became her own rising star in the Carta, known for her quick wit, sound mind, and deadly aim. However, she met and fell in love with the son of a prominent Merchant’s Guild member when she was 20 years old - Fynn Dunhark. After a whirlwind romance, Maria abandoned Ostwick, the Carta, and her family to start a new life with Fynn in Hercinia. Zarra disapproved completely - expressing much distrust of the Guild. Although Maria wanted Bea to accompany her, Bea refused because she too was doing well for herself in the Carta.
One year after their elopement, assassins hired by Fynn’s father tracked the couple to Hercinia. They had been hired to kill Maria, but Fynn died at their hands instead and Maria was captured. The assassins, knowing they wouldn’t recoup the other half of their payment from Fynn’s father, ransomed Maria back to the Carta. To raise the money, Bea Cadash made an unsavory alliance with a very distant cousin of their, Dwyka Cadash (also known as the Dasher) who had been “sweet” on Maria before her elopement.
Bea Cadash helped Dwyka assume control of the Ostwick Carta and Maria came back to her family a broken hearted woman. She resumed her place in the Carta and, eventually, rumors began to grow that she had entered into a relationship with Dasher himself. Fynn Dunhark’s father committed suicide after the failed assassination attempt.
Maria spent the next several years in the Ostwick Carta. She’s perhaps one of the best smugglers the Carta has ever seen and has a very in depth knowledge of the way most criminal networks in Thedas operate and a firm grasp of the lyrium trade. Although she seems to have no actual power within the Carta to make decisions, she’s widely respected by her fellows and it’s roundly acknowledged the whole thing would fall to shambles without her steady hand. She’s got a long history of handling the most difficult smuggling jobs herself. Much to her detriment when she’s sent to Southern Thedas to supply the templars and mages in the middle of a war.
Involvement
Maria Cadash can be found at the Storm Coast as soon as the area opens up for exploration. Scout Harding will offer in her report a quest called “Signs of Carta Smuggling” which leads to a hidden cove in the map and a pitched battle between Maria, several templars, and several mages. After dispatching the enemies, Maria can be engaged in conversation. She reveals she was selling lyrium for the Carta, but one of her crew messed up and gave both sides of the dispute the same time and location to meet. Further questioning seems to reveal that Maria was charging the mages less than the templars, when pressed she says it’s because they don’t have as much money. If Varric or Bull are in the party they will both shrewdly interject that she’s a liar.
Maria will talk about the smuggling operation and the Inquisitor has the opportunity to recruit her by asking the Ostwick Carta to supply the Inquisition with lyrium. Maria says she’s got other skills than smuggling, opening up her availability as a party member.
When at Haven, she can be found at the archery targets. Once the Inquisition relocates to Skyhold, she spends her time on the battlements near the tavern. When asked why she’s always up there, she jokes that she likes to be tall.
Approval and Romance
Maria can be romanced by an Inquisitor of any race or gender, but the romance is not locked in or consummated for most of the game. Maria is slow to trust or return the Inquisitor’s affection and doesn’t respond well to being pushed for more before she’s ready.
She slightly favors the mages over the templars, but much like Varric, tends to look at individuals instead of groups. She approves of acts of kindness and charity, an Inquisitor that jokes with her and others, and actions that favor the oppressed. She disapproves of most things done just to appease nobles, acts that hurt others, and acts that side with who she sees as an oppressor. She also, interestingly, disapproves of executing most prisoners. The sole exception is Erimond, where her approval is guaranteed but the amount of approval is contingent on whether or not Hawke is left in the Fade.
If Maria isn’t romanced by the Inquisitor, she can end up in a romance with Varric Tethras, but it does require some work on the Inquisitor’s part to move beyond flirtation in game banter. This sequence of quests involve Maria’s companion quest and Varric’s. They can be obtained post-Adamant and done in any order.
If Solas and Maria are not romanced by the Inquisitor, in game banter seems to reveal that many companions believe Solas has a crush on Maria Cadash. This includes Varric, who oddly seems to not mind even if he is in a relationship with Maria. Despite this banter, there is no way to cause a relationship between Solas and Maria.
Companion Quests
If Hawke survives the Fade:
The Inquisitor, when saying goodbye to Hawke, witnesses Hawke’s goodbye to Varric. If Maria and Varric have been in the party together often enough to start their flirting dialogues, the camera will show Maria approaching and Hawke will cryptically tell Varric that there is “Always time to start a new story.” The Inquisitor has the option to wave Maria over to say goodbye to Hawke as well. If she’s invited into the conversation, Maria will jokingly tell Hawke she’ll keep Varric in trouble. Hawke seems to approve of this.
If Hawke is left in the Fade:
Upon approaching Varric in Skyhold, Varric will talk about how he misses Hawke. If Maria and Varric have been in the party together often enough to start their flirting dialogues, the camera will show Maria approaching. The Inquisitor has the option to wave her over. If she’s invited into the conversation, Maria will ask Varric how long he’s been writing letters. When he says he’s done Maria says she’ll use her smuggling contacts to get them where they need to go and that he needs to sleep. Varric allows himself to be sent to bed.
Varric’s Quest in Vallamar:
When Bianca Davri is in Skyhold, Maria will shift locations. She will move from the battlements and into the upper floor of the tavern near Cole. Cole’s ambient dialogue will reveal that she is unhappy with Bianca’s presence. If Maria is brought along to Vallamar, she disapproves. During the quest she frequently interjects into Varric and Bianca’s fond memories dialogue. After the second time this happens, Bianca will begin to ask intrusive questions about Maria. Whoever the third companion is will ask the Inquisitor if they’re happy with their choices for this party.
Maria becomes angry at Bianca during the culmination of the Vallamar quest. She will ask the other woman how many people she’s hurt to answer a question. Bianca will ask Maria how many people she’s hurt on the Dasher’s behalf. If this quest is done before Maria’s, the Inquisitor will have the opportunity to ask Maria about the Dasher. Regardless of the dialogue exploration, Bianca will eventually reveal that she knows Maria is in a relationship with the Dasher.
If Maria’s companion quest has been completed, the Inquisitor can refute that, but Maria will disapprove of any dialogue options beyond “That’s not your business,” which gathers great approval. Varric will attempt to interject and calm the situation, but Maria will turn on him and ask him how long he intends on living in his fantasy world or if he’s ever going to grow up. This is the same conversation you can witness at Skyhold post-completion if Maria was not brought along. Either way, Maria storms off. It is revealed that she has left the party (in Vallamar) or Skyhold. She is unavailable to be selected as a companion until the Inquisitor leaves the area and then returns to Skyhold.
If you have Solas in the party while Maria is missing, he will reveal he wishes he could find her in the Fade, but he cannot, and that he is worried about her. If this takes place after the quest with Wisdom is completed, the Inquisitor may point out Solas is getting a taste of his own medicine.
The Inquisitor may choose to ask Maria where she was when she returns. If she is asked, Maria will reveal she was almost back to Ostwick before she realized clan Davri had hired assassins to kill Varric. If the Inquisitor asks where the assassins are, Maria says they’re not a problem anymore. Further questioning reveals Maria has not spoken to Varric about what happened and they both seem to have just made up their mind to never mention it again.
To trigger Maria and Varric’s romance, the Inquisitor must tell Varric that Maria came back to take care of the assassins sent after him. Varric laughs off the assassins, saying he’s dealt with them before, but seems touched that Maria came back to handle them. His dialogue ends with him being thoughtful and murmuring that maybe he hasn’t fucked up.
Maria’s Carta Problems:
Maria will mention she’s got unfinished business with the Carta and ask for the Inquisitor’s help. If the Inquisitor agrees to help, no questions asked, Maria greatly approves. If the Inquisitor questions her, she seems exasperated, but does not disapprove.
Maria reveals that the Dasher has information about her family which means Maria can never leave the Carta. The Inquisitor can ask Maria if she wants to leave and Maria indicates she doesn’t know, but she wants to have the choice, and no matter what happens she can’t go back to Dasher’s Carta. When questioned about the Dasher, Maria will reveal his identity and discuss his cruelty and stupidity with business. At this point in time, the Inquisitor can ask about rumors linking Maria and Dwyka romantically. Maria will say it’s not like that and ask you to trust her. If you say you do, she will greatly approve.
Maria says she’s heard Dwyka is in Ferelden looking for her to bring her back to Ostwick. Maria wants to find him first. The Inquisitor must track down information on Carta operations. When Leliana is asked she recommends Varric’s own Carta connections as the best route. The Inquisitor can ask Varric to look into it, which he does gladly after surmising it’s for Maria. He does warn the Inquisitor Maria probably didn’t want him knowing what she’s doing.
After speaking to Varric, a mission opens at the War Table. Upon completion of this mission, Maria can be taken to a spot on the map near the Storm Coast. Exploration  of the map reveals that Dwyka is dealing in red lyrium. When confronted by the Inquisitor and Maria, Dwyka taunts Maria that she’ll never get away from him. This cues a battle.
After the enemies are defeated, a final cut scene shows Maria firing an arrow into Dwyka’s throat and then standing over him as he dies. She tells him he will never hurt her or her family again, and that they’ll all forget he even existed. If Solas or Varric are in the party, one or both will comment that Dwyka got off too easily. Despite their victory, Maria seems exhausted. The Inquisitor can ask what was between her and Dwyka and Maria will confess that her sister murder Fynn Dunhark’s father after the failed assassination attempt and Dwyka had evidence that would see her family wiped out by the Merchant’s Guild for killing one of their own. He used that knowledge to blackmail Maria and Bea into working for him. She can be pressed further by an Inquisitor asking if all she did was work for him. She’ll admit that’s not all, but she never loved Dwyka, she was trapped.
If Varric is in the party, he’ll reluctantly confirm the Guild has organized to purge troublesome Carta families before. Maria will bitterly state that the Guild can’t survive without the Carta - they do the jobs “respectable” dwarves won’t do and nobody blinks at their deaths. Varric tries to protest and she pointedly asks him how many Carta members Hawke wiped out in Kirkwall. Varric says that isn’t fair and Maria responds that life isn’t fair. Then she says they should go.
After this quest, the Inquisitor has the option to inform Maria that Varric helped find the information that led to Dwyka. Maria says she should be angry at the Inquisitor for involving him, but then admits Varric isn’t a bad sort. She says “If things were different…” and then trails off before saying she’ll have to find some way to thank him.
This is also the trigger for Maria’s romance. The Inquisitor has the opportunity to tell her that when she’s ready, they’d love to get to know her better. Maria says she needs time, and if the Inquisitor says she can have as much time as she needs then Maria is on a romance path.
Helping Cole:
After both quests have been completed, if Maria and Varric have started flirting in party banter, and Maria was invited to the conversation post-Adamant, the following events can occur after the next storyline quest but before Trespasser DLC is started:
Cole will come to the Inquisitor and ask for help. He’ll reveal that Maria and Varric are in love with each other but they won’t talk. This starts a complicated chain of events where the Inquisitor and Cole attempt to force Maria and Varric to talk about their feelings.
A game of truth or dare in the Tavern where Maria and Varric keep doing increasingly bold dares to avoid picking truth. The Inquisitor can dare them to kiss, and they will, but they’ll break away quickly and end the game.
The Inquisitor can start a bookclub and pick one of Varric’s romances. Cassandra is overjoyed, but Maria spends most of the book club needling Varric mercilessly and Varric doing dramatic readings in silly voices to make her laugh. Cassandra eventually kicks both Maria and Varric out of the book club.
Finally, Cole and the Inquisitor cause an “accident” where Maria and Varric are trapped alone in the undercroft by a magical artifact Dagna was studying that creates a barrier. The Inquisitor says she will go get a mage to undo it and leaves. When the Inquisitor returns, several hours later, she interrupts Varric and Maria cuddling and looking out over the mountains. This locks in their romance. If Solas is still with the Inquisition, he will be the mage that undoes the barrier. He will say he is very happy for Maria and Varric before quickly leaving. If Solas is in a romance with the Inquisitor or already gone, Dorian will undo the barrier and say “It’s about time.”
If the Inquisitor is romancing Maria themselves, they will skip right to the end of this quest before the Arbor Wilds and end up locked in the Undercroft with Maria because of Cole’s “help”. Maria will confess her feelings and thank the Inquisitor for being patient. She’ll say they have lots of time before Cole gets help and ask what the Inquisitor would like to do. The Inquisitor may choose to talk or consummate the relationship, Maria will approve of either and the relationship will be locked in. Solas will retrieve them after a good amount of time and state he is glad they found happiness eventually.
Trespasser
If Maria was romanced by the Inquisitor:
She can be found in the gardens and it is revealed she has continued to work for the Inquisition. The Inquisitor can ask Maria to marry them and Maria confesses she thought she’d never get married again and it would feel like a betrayal. The Inquisitor can say Fynn would want Maria to be happy and Maria will say that they’re right, but she needs some time. After the first foray into the Crossroads, Maria can be approached again and will say yes. This cues a private marriage ceremony.
As the anchor worsens, Maria begs the Inquisitor not to leave her and says she can’t bear to be left alone again. The Inquisitor can promise to keep fighting or offer Maria comfort. The epilogue reveals a romanced Maria and the Inquisitor finally go visit Maria’s family in Ostwick and that Maria reforms the Ostwick Carta as a shadow organization to serve the Inquisitor in their quest to stop Solas (which she greatly approves of) or redeem Solas (which she’s much more wary of.)
If Maria and Varric started a romance:
Maria can be found near Varric at the fountain and will reveal that she’s been in Kirkwall helping Varric. Bran will interrupt your first conversation by calling her “My lady, the Viscount’s Mistress,” which will cue a small meltdown from Maria. She tells the Inquisitor to ignore Bran. If asked, Maria will reveal there’s apparently a special title for the person fucking the Viscount in Kirkwall. She’s unhappy about it. She’ll also talk about how her family has moved to Kikwall and that Varric is having a hell of a time dealing with her sister and grandmother.
Varric, while giving the Inquisitor their estate in Kirkwall, will say that Maria would love to have a friend in the city that doesn’t call her the Viscount’s Mistress. And then will advise the Inquisitor to never ever call Maria that if they know what’s good for them. The Inquisitor can ask Varric why they’re not married if she hates being his mistress so much. Varric simply sighs and says it’s complicated, but that they’re happy and he wouldn’t trade it for the world.
An Elven servant brings the Inquisitor a note after the first foray into the Crossroads. This note reveals Maria is expecting a child. The next time the Inquisitor speaks to Maria, they’ll confront her with this information. Maria will attempt to deny it, then reveal the truth. She’s unsure how anyone would know since Varric doesn’t even know, the only people who do are her grandmother and sister. She’s not far along and wants to continue to fight. The Inquisitor can choose to allow this. If they do, Varric disapproves and Maria approves. If they do not, Maria disapproves and Varric approves. Maria is also removed as a party member the rest of the game, although she can still be spoken to.
Either way, after the second foray into the Crossroads Maria will hint that her and Varric have gotten married by correcting Bran when he calls her the Viscount’s Mistress and saying that it’s not her title anymore. When the Inquisitor asks, she’ll say they can celebrate after and asks the Inquisitor to make sure Varric stays safe if she is no longer a party member.
During the confrontation with Solas, he reveals that the servant was one of his spies and that he has been watching the Viscount’s Keep. When asked why, his answer varies depending If Solas has been romanced by the Inquisitor. If he has been, he will say that he would not see one of their friends hurt when they are vulnerable. If, however, he was not romanced by the Inquisitor he will tell them that he could not bear to see Varric and Maria hurt by the loss of a child in battle, hinting that he still has feelings from their time together in the Inquisition even if they were never acted upon. Solas indicates approval of keeping Maria out of the battle and disapproval of allowing her to stay.
After the game, Maria and Varric return to Kirkwall and the epilogue mentions they have a baby girl together and that Maria is the most unique Viscountess Kirkwall has ever had.
If Maria was not romanced and the romance with Varric did not trigger:
She can be found in the gardens and it is revealed she is still with the Inquisition, although she is toying with the idea of reforming the Ostwick Carta under her terms. She expresses concern as the Inquisitor becomes more and more ill, which eventually turns to anger towards the rest of the Exalted Council.
If Solas was romanced by the Inquisitor, Maria’s epilogue says that she returned to Ostwick and rebuilt the Carta there. An Inquisitor who is friendly with her uses them in their quest to stop Solas with Maria’s blessing.
If Solas was not romanced by the Inquisitor, Maria suddenly vanishes when she returns to Ostwick without a trace. There’s no sign of her working among Solas’ people, however, and most people agree she would not join Solas. Her fate is ultimately a mystery.

Varric: “Sure, Princess. Don’t worry, I’ll keep my mouth shut.”
Maria, laughing: “No you won’t.”

Maria: “Is it an act of protest?”
Varric: “I haven’t even started protesting, but I’m about to. If the Inquisitor makes us climb one more mountain…”

Varric: “It was distracting from my chest hair. It had to go.”

Varric, sighing: “If you ask to fiddle with Bianca’s cocking ring…”
Maria: “I assumed it was cause you were staring at me.”
Varric: “At that templar that almost took your head off.”
Maria: “Uh huh. And the shots veering left were because of the cocking ring.”

Varric: “Here you go, Princess.”
Maria: “A daisy?”
Varric: “That’s no common daisy. That’s a fine Orlesian Marguerite.”
Maria: “Very fancy. The Carta just calls them daisies.”
Varric: “You deserve something a bit fancy.”
Companion/Advisor comments about Maria Cadash:
Josephine: “Mistress Cadash is quite good at cards. I’ve not had that much of a challenge since I was a young girl. Do not wager anything you would not care to lose.”
Leliana: “Maria Cadash is putting herself and her family at great danger to stay here. I wish I could believe it was more than self-interest, but I wonder if she’s not willing to die before returning to Ostwick. It… it is a bit sad, isn’t it?”
Varric, romance not triggered: “Princess is a real Carta dwarf with a heart of gold. It’s probably going to get her killed someday. Carta isn’t kind to people like her.”
Varric, romance triggered: “Thanks for helping me with Maria. I owe you one. It’s not always easy, we’ve got a lot of baggage. But it was time to start a new story, and I needed a muse who could kick my ass every time I start acting like an idiot.”
Solas: “Maria Cadash is clever and curious. She’s wasted on the Carta. I suspect if you treat her well, she’ll be an ally to the Inquisition.”
Solas if Maria is in a romance with Varric or the Inquisitor: “I believe she is happy. That is all that matters in the end. I hope she remains so.”
Cole: “She locked it away. Couldn’t survive if she felt it. But she’s gone. A ghost. Everything haunts her. She doesn’t want to go back. You have to help her.”
Cole, if Maria is in a romance with the Inquisitor or Varric: “She thinks about how she buried him. Dirt in her fingers. Stone take him back. Ancestors guide him. Then she remembers she’s alive, and someone is waiting.”
Trivia
Maria reveals throughout dialogue that she’s a fan of Varric’s books, except his romance serial, which she thinks is ridiculous.
She can sing very well, but rarely does so. A romanced Maria (Varric or the Inquisitor) sings much more often than a non-romanced Maria.
She has trouble sleeping and spends the nights she can’t watching Solas paint. She’s fallen asleep on his sofa multiple times.
She is an expert marksman and a bit of a perfectionist. Any flaws in her technique have to be stamped out.
If her and Varric are in a relationship, their daughter is named Marguerite after the daisies Varric used to give her.
