Clearing up confusion: World of Winx
In my recent years of being in the Winx fandom, I’ve seen many people struggle to make sense of World of Winx and it’s relation to the main show.
I thought I’d help out a bit by answering some of the main questions about WoW.
1. In season 4 of Winx Club, the Winx revealed the existence of fairies to all the humans on Earth, so why do they need to hide it now?
World of Winx is a spin-off. That means it is not canon to the main series, nor is the main series canon to WoW. It is all happening in seperate universes.
In the WoW universe, humans still don’t know fairies exist, and the Winx don’t want to risk blowing their cover due to potential danger.
2. What happened to the Magic dimension?
So, there’s no sign of the MD’s existence in WoW. In fact, it is never mentioned where the girls come from. It could be argued that it’s a bit of a plothole, but unlike in the main show, the girls’ origins don’t play a role in the storyline.
It is however implied that the girls at the very least are not from Earth. As Flora says in the first episode, I quote: “We need to get used to passing as normal girls”. This implies that the girls are obviously not used to living the lives of humans.
Also, they’re fairies. So, yeah.
3. Why is Roxy there? And why aren’t the specialists?
These were just choices made by the producers. Roxy is there to occasionally help the Winx out with their missions. As shown in season 1 especially, she sort of acts as a seventh pair of eyes to the Winx, keeping her eye on anything suspicious and notifying the Winx of such.
As for the specialists, they just weren’t relevant enough to become part of WoW. I personally don’t mind it, as it shows just how capable the Winx are without men. This show also focuses on showing each Winx’ strength and potential in a way I wished the main show did. (I’ll do another post on this)
6. But the comics say the two shows are connected. Why?
The Winx Club comics are not canon to the main show nor World of Winx. I get that it’s confusing, since most of the events that happen in the shows are actually canon to the comics. The comics are just further promotion and expansion of the Winx franchise.
Don’t look too much into it.
5. Why did World of Winx get cancelled?
Let me know when you get answers. The way they left us on a cliffhanger is a crime in my book.
There have been some rumors about a third season in the works, but take it with a grain of salt. Don’t believe anything but an official confirmation by Rainbow or Netflix.
6. Why does WoW even exist?
The main series started off targeted towards older kids and teens, however, it changed after Rainbow signed a deal with Nickelodeon. Due to misunderstandings and miscommunication, the show’s target demographic lowered to suit the likes of smaller children, which threw a lot of people off.
Many fans speculate that Rainbow realized this, and worked with Netflix to create World of Winx to give something to reattract the original target audience of the first 3-4 seasons of the main show.
This is just a theory! There is no official confirmation.
Hope this helped!

I'm enchanted with Chimera's enchantix, and out of curiosity I wanted to know: what made you decide to give her the enchantix?
I basically scrapped most of s6 and am reworking it to try and find a better way to execute mythix without having glaring plotholes.
By doing that i ended up switching the focus over to stella instead of introducing selena which already puts a bigger focus on her family during the season.
And completely changing how the book works and the like evil guy cuz he was lame
This season will mostly be centered around eraklyon and solaria and that’s how chimera came into play because i kept her in the story. With her temporary taking stella’s place on the team to help the winx try and save stella & solaria and that is a great way to give her the opportunity to gain enchantix. And to show her strengths as a person.
The season’s main focus would be with sky, bloom, stella, brandon, diaspro & chimera (ofcourse the other winx will have character development but they aren’t the main focus for the overall story)

My favorite 4Kids story has gotta be that time they accidentally filled in a major Winx Club plothole.
For context: there was an episode in Season 2 of Winx where Icy blasts Sky, severely injuring him. In the Italian original cartoon, it kills him and Bloom resurrects him, but obviously, 4Kids can't do that. So instead they make it so Icy casts a sleeping spell on him, only for his girlfriend Bloom to break it true love's kiss-style. This is basically guaranteed to please both the censors and the preteen shippers watching.
In the meantime, Bloom's power to bring back the dead is literally never addressed again in the original. This caused a major fan squabble once Season 4 hit and Aisha's fiance Nabu died in battle. Everyone was asking "why didn't Bloom try to bring Nabu back?"
Except the 4Kids dub watchers.
You see, 4Kids only dubbed up to Season 3, but if you were anything like me, you were a snoopy little kid who wanted to know everything you could about the undubbed seasons. Point is, though, the 4Kids watchers saw these forum conversations and they were confused as hell. Why would Bloom be able to revive her friend's dead fiance, someone who (unless the situation was extra messy) she had no romantic feelings for at all? Sleeping spells don't work that way!
And that's how I, and a lot of 4Kids Winx fans, learned about Bloom's real ability and mutually agreed that changing it to a sleeping spell was one of the few good decisions 4Kids ever made with Winx, alongside Layla's amazing dub voice and Baltor's badass guitar riff.

What I hate most is creators and producers who use the excuse "It's a cartoon or tv-serie for children".
That dosen't give them the excuse to make lazy storylines,no seriousness, bad animation or hive minded characters with same personalites!! Because kids won't be intresssed in it! And same goes for teens and adults who like to watch cartoons.
Winx club is a good exempel. In the earlier seasons from 1 to 4 it was more serious. It had dark moments like charscters dying, war, lovecraftian monsters and daily life drama that pepole could relate too.
But then Nickeldon took over and hired new writers. And these writers had worked on shows like "Blue's Clues". A serie for children around ages 3 to 5 years old.
And they soft rebooted Winx Club do they became 16 year olds again. Ruining the timeline and slowly turned the characters into same personalities or just OOC.
They took away the Uniqeness of Winx club had. The storyline had more plotholes then cheese and changed the animation style. Giving the characters more stifften body movements.
And their excuse was? This is a show for children!

Fate At Cloudtower
General thoughts on s2 of F*te The Winx Saga. Past issues of whitewashing still stand, especially irt Musa since they have given zero indication that they’re intending to fix that casting mistake. I’m still mad about that. This isn’t going to be a very coherent review but whatever.
- Writing: generally more coherent. Less one liners. No mentions of mansplaining. They keep assuming we’ve seen the original and it leads to a lot of plotholes where we don’t actually know what the fuck the Dragon flame is supposed to be in this universe.
- We’re getting “Isobel and D’Arcy” (with Beatrix being “Little Storm”) and what I think is Darkar? I’m not looking forward to that. (I liked that their address is Diamond Hill that’s kinda cool ig)
- Costumes: either hideous but there are some nice ones. The hair and makeup got worse for everyone. Terra’s styling especially has somehow gotten worse. Do they know lesbians can dress well?
- A lot of retconning. It feels like a very different show than s1 did. It’s different for the better but it’s very dissonant and confusing.
- I hate the transformation sequence. CGI in general is otherwise better (specifically the convergence scene) but the transformations are terrible. Yes, the rest of the Winx transform. Terra’s is kinda cool I guess, Aisha’s is insulting.
- Sebastian is a very unconvincing villain. Yeah, okay he’s this world’s Valtor but he isn’t imposing at all, which works for when he’s undercover in the beginning but he makes for a very nonthreatening villain, he’s just... a weird man.
- I liked the idea of the “burden” of power: Musa willingly giving hers up, the mention of the Dragon Flame being a burden on Bloom’s mother. Kinda deep. Not well explored but nothing in this show is.
- Some of the characters are more likable now (Stella, Beatrix, Riven), some got worse (Bloom, Aisha, Terra)
- Terra coming out felt very out of nowhere. I expected Stella to be the one to come out especially given that she and Beatrix seem to have a more genuine connection (platonic or otherwise) than Terra and her supposed love interest....
- Who the fuck is Terra’s love interest and doesn’t she have a long term girlfriend?
- Stella/Sky makes a lot more sense in this world than Bloom/Sky do. The only reason they’re together is because the show keeps insisting they’re in love and it’s very unconvincing and annoying and the Stella/Sky moments do hit at times. I feel for Stella a lot.
- They just throw death in every episode. It’s... weird. Like we get a string of murders with no real gravitas.
- Grey is hot and that’s it. He’s boring as hell.
TLDR: S2 was better than S1 but it’s not actually good and it definitely isn’t a good adaptation of Winx Club. It relies a lot on the show to fill in the gaps they’re too lazy to fill but doesn’t actually honour the source material and isn’t good enough to stand on its own.

(Spoilers for Winx S5)
Literally everyone has pointed it out but
Its so dumb that Nereus randomly died just to raise the stakes, and that Aisha had to waste her Sirenix wish on him alone. I literally couldn't care less for Nereus even if his design was pretty
JUST REVIVE NABU??? The showrunners didn't even show her dilemma thinking about that possibility, but had the audacity to traumatise Aisha with an illusion of Nabu. To shame
If they wanted her wish to be noble like in S3, they could make the spell that changed Nereus's family into sea monsters permanent. And her sirenix wish was to instead to help them all change back to their original forms
Musa not using her sirenix wish is also so ??? Esp since in S3 she did wish for her mother to come back to life, but rejected the idea in order to serve the greater good. Her reason of "bc it wouldn't be right" is trying to be emotional but like....there's no world at stake? Ur mother can come back to life no problem lol just ask for it
There are so many questionable decisions made. If there were so many plotholes with the Sirenix wish, just eliminate it completely?? I don't understand why it had to be there, other than to be a callback to S3 and to revive Daphne.

“Confession: I despise both WoW and Fate Cringe Saga. World of Winx has stupid plotholes and RUINED Aisha's personality and made her having nerve issues (seriously Rainbow? What happened to you?), and Fate didn't feel like a Winx reboot, it felt like another netflix/cw fantasy show. I hate whitewashing, yet Terra and Aisha were my ONLY favourite characters in the funny adaptation.” -Anon

I relooked some of my (really) old notes and God.
They're so chaotic.
Tumblr media
This was an attempt to draw Vampire OC for Vampires' recruiting.
(As you can see, I didn't finish it)
Tumblr media
Once I thought that if Trix wore masks instead of having too much makeup in Disenchantix, they would look much better. So I downloaded their pictures from Wikipedia and designed masks, lol (based on Ancestral Witches masks)
Also, I tried to explain Winx's world timeline (because you know, it has a LOOOOOOT of contradictions), so...
I have an idea that because of Ancestral Witches attacks, some people run away from their home to the planets on the outskirts of the Magix universe and created a barrier in an attempt to hide yourself. But barrier cut off them from Magix, and because of that, time does at different speed on their new home.
And the Earth one of this planets; fairies hold the spells, but after being imprisoned of Wizards of the Black Circle no one of them can't do that anymore. So the barrier slowly disappeared, and our planet joined to Magix universe again.
Tumblr media
Heh. I thought too much about plotholes at that time, lol
And the last!!! (for now)
Tumblr media
I imagined a really cute idea - how Frisk show "star" (their save) for this monster.
But then I realized that monsters probably can't see save... so it's just rough unfinished sketch

Top 5 plotlines that make no sense (excl s8 so it doesn’t take up the list)
90% of this show doesn’t make sense so top 5 will be a real challenge but let’s see:
1. The entire plot of Secret of the Lost Kingdom. It is a goddamn mess and so bad for the overall arc of the show, I can’t even. The prophecy they shoved in there is dumb and so does not come true. Winx - and worst of all, Bloom - didn’t do anything to free Domino. Sky pretty much got everything done. It was terrible. What were they thinking?
2. The Trix coming out of the Legendarium (even though they should have become fiction by then) in season 7 and having FAIRY animals all of a sudden. Like, bro, what the absolute, honest, genuine fuck? How does any of that make sense. Please, stop. I am begging you to stop.
3. The Avalon plotline is really dumb because if Darkar can corrupt anyone (which he said he can and I am inclined to believe since even Bloom was turned dark despite the Dragon Fire), why make a double of Avalon? Why not just corrupt the real Avalon? But they wanted the real one to get free and go to Alfea because everyone there is too dumb to notice how predatory fake!Avalon is towards Bloom. And I don’t even want to mention the fact that real Avalon still had the invitation Faragonda sent him. Not only did Darkar not think of stealing that and giving it to fake!Avalon but Faragonda, the absolute dumbass, did not ask to see it when fake!Avalon arrived at Alfea. Because why would you want any proof of someone’s identity in a world where people can shapeshift and you know the Shadow Phoenix is on the loose?!
4. Fixing the Emperor’s Throne without the last seal from the Pillar of Control. That was so dumb. They set some rules and then they broke them on purpose just like they did with Bloom’s Enchantix in season 3 (and Tecna’s).
5. Flora’s sudden insecurities in herself that lasted throughout most of season 5 to have no resolution at all and just vanish in the next season
Dishonorable mentions:
all of season 7 (but there was no plotline there at all)
the pixies spending all season trapped in the Legendarium in s6 without becoming fiction
whatever the hell they were doing with Daphne in s6
Bloom’s sulking in 6x11 and 6x12... nvm, just put all of season 6 in here too
the bullshit relationship drama in season 4 that took up about 1/3 of the season and served no purpose whatsoever
The Wizards showing up after Bloom pulled off the sheet covering the painting of them. What, did she summon them? What the hell?
Also, favorite moment when they cut off the wings of the Earth fairies but they grew back! Makes perfect sense. If you’re gonna do anything, then fucking commit to it!
Don’t even get me into the timelines of the Wizards plot and the destruction of Domino.
Them being able to use Charmix and Gloomix in the Wildlands even though it was said to be a magic-free realm. If it’s magic free, there should me no magic, no matter how powerful any of them are. That was really stupid and annoying.
The fairy dust has no set rules of working. It obviously does not remove all dark spells because it didn’t work on Valtor’s spells a couple times. Not to mention that they use it to treat physical injuries in 3x17. What the hell is even going on? Please, stop.

I know the whole thing with Bloom regaining her powers after the trix took them is like a good message to send to kids that no one can take your power from you if you don't let them and whatever but I always felt like it was such a cop out. Like it just feels lazy idk.

History of Eraklyon
Or: Why and How Diaspro is a Princess
Winx Alt Con: History of Eraklyon
Eraklyon, like all planets has multiple continents, which allow for lots and lots of people to set themselves up and declare 'this is my land, I'm in charge.'
On Eraklyon, these developed into several Kingdoms, Realms and Empires, the two most relevant for this History are the Realm of Isis, and the Realm of Hera.
Now, when you have multiple kingdoms and such, each of them ruled by a Royal, you have wars, each Ruling Royal convinced they should rule over All The Places! Which is what happened.
Amidst the War an Alliance was formed between The Queens of Hera and Isis, together the two Queens forged treaties and minor alliances with all of the other Realms of their World, until the two of them were the legal and political rulers of every Realm. (And yes, some of the Realms were folded into their control via military and magical Conquest.)
In order to prevent a war between their two remaining Realms, Queen Isis ceded Leadership to Hera, with a few stipulations.
The Realm of Isis was down graded to a Duchy, with all of Isis' original lands intact, and while Queen Isis of the Unification was the last outside of the Family of Hera to hold the title of Queen, her daughters and their daughters, were allowed to maintain the Royal Title of Princess.
(The family line of Isis is Matriarchal, thus there has never been a Duke of Isis, the Husband of the Reigning Princess, Duchess of Isis is referred to as Lord, or Consort of Isis. There has also never been a prince, but that's because the family has only had girls since the Unification, most of which become prominent members of the court, and occasionally, Eraklyon's Guardian Fairy.)
When the Engagement of Prince Sky and Princess Diaspro was announce, it was considered by many to be the final step of True Unification for Eraklyon.
So when Diaspro was publicly humiliated by Prince Sky, who had cheated on her with an unknown Fairy, the Prince was treated with contempt for several months by a large percent of the population.
After Diaspro was banished, (after Sky had publicly announced their second Engagement,) the people were furious. For several years, people were expecting Diaspro to become The Queen, she was well liked amongst the populace, considered to be 'Eraklyon's Darling,' so when she was Banished, the people of Eraklyon threw the largest fit in the history of Unified Eraklyon.
(The near revolt mentality was helped along by the Crime Lord Yoshinoya.)
Under duress by the people, Diaspro's Banishment was annulled and her titles and rights restored.
She was given a position within the Royal Guards of Eraklyon's Military in order to keep a close eye on her, without insulting her.
(Isis was (and still is) rich in mineral resources, and possesses both advanced mining techniques and a high percentage of 'stone' and 'metal' aligned Fairies amongst their Fairy population, they are well known for their stone and jewellery work, and are often hired by other conglomerates throughout the Magical Dimension to oversee mining operation’s.)
(Between the populace of Eraklyon, the two Royal families are often referred to as the Sons of Hera and the Daughters of Isis.)
(Eraklyon is the Planet, Heraklyon is the Capital.)

“Despite I love Bloomix and its design, the fact that Bloom gave it to the Winx raises a lot of questions: Could she do it an entire time? Why didn't the Trix gain it in Season 1 when they "took" her power? Why she didn't do this before? Also, how did she gain Bloomix by reabsorbing HER OWN MAGIC in the Vortex Of Flames episode? As much as I hate the Bloom hate nowadays, it raises a lot of questions and plotholes and made her a Mary Sue even more.”

S1 Musa wasn't madly in love with Riven, but rather attracted to him. When Stella brought that Riven was dating Darcy what upseted Musa the most was that Stella mocked her feelings, then she slapped Icy because she mocked her too, and once she saw Riven with the Trix her interest on him dropped. She never mentioned him againg until he showed that was indeed a good guy. Their messy relationship from season 3 on is just the result of the writer recycling subplots for all the couples.
Season 1 Musa was not in love with Riven, that's for sure. She was just very attracted and intrigued by him. I think her crush persisted through Darcy, it just wasn't shown on screen (a common issue with Winx). It may have been hidden behind anger and hurt, but it was still there.
Season 2 Musa was also not in love with Riven. She didn't know him. They barely interacted. At this point, she's piecing him together with her imagination. Taking what little bits of him she does know and creating the rest to match what she wants him to be.
Season 3 Musa is also not in love with Riven, at least you wouldn't think so based on what we see. I'm pretty sure I've said this before, but you wouldn't even really think she likes him. The biggest disservice Rai did to this ship is making all their arguments off-screen. I would like to think they work well enough, while still being incredibly dysfunctional. Their good moments are great, but then their respective issues get in the way and they fight. I have no problem believing that they fight a lot since they're both stubborn, emotional and temperamental in nature. They both also have a tendency to shut down which helps nothing. But, really? Would it have killed Rai to get them to make up in a way that wasn't so 🤢. I mean, Riven assuming Musa would cheat on him IN FRONT OF THEIR FRIENDS??? And then being a possessive jackass and her going you do care. Not here for it. Where's the vulnerability???? Where's the genuinely getting to know each other???? Hell I'd settle for a one minute conversation honestly.
Season 4's story makes sense, but is also riddled with plotholes. Someone wrote about Riven's reasoning for reacting the way he did (if anyone remembers who and has the link, please link it cause I cannot for the life of me remember), and I'm inclined to agree. He sees Jason being able to offer Musa this amazing opportunity and knows he could never do that for her, but instead of being supportive and acting out of his love for his girlfriend (because by season 4, I want to believe they genuinely love each other even though Rai has given us no indication that they do besides saying they do) he acts out of insecurity. Musa, who at this point would know about some of his issues IF THEY'D FUCKING TALK ABOUT SOMETHING (I'm convinced Rai couldn't think of anything for them to have in common so all we get is fights to fill their air time), did nothing to help by falling for a grown-ass man she knows fuck all about and made up stuff about in her mind (anyone seeing a pattern here?)
Season 5 just annoys me. Riven has never given her any reason to believe he'd cheat and Musa has never had issues snapping and going off on him (if their constant argument story is to be believed). There's no way in hell she would just sit there and cry about him cheating instead of threatening to cut his dick off. And Riven's too smart to meet with the girl he's "cheating" with on Alfea's campus right in front of her window. I mean, come on. They couldn't have Musa come across them somewhere or have someone else tell her? No. He meets this bitch right in front of Musa's window.
I refuse to acknowledge their issues in season 6. I do, however, agree with their break up (and I love that Rai FINALLY gave us some maturity for them), but I hate the reason for it. I like the idea of them going separate ways and making their own lives only to be led back together by circumstances in a cheesy what's meant to be will always find a way sort of thing.

Part 1 - Basic Concepts of Miraculous Ladybug: Miraculous Jewels
Alright! I promised you meta and now I deliver!
I feel like people mostly watch Miraculous for the romance these days. Shipping is all everyone cares about. I wonder why? Probably because writers themselves don't take their worldbuilding very seriously and because they don't put much effort into making the audience care about something other than Love Square, like the mythology behind the Miraculous, or motivations of the main villain, or some pretty heavy topics for a kid's show that they bring up and then refuse to touch again. You know, all the good things. And this is coming from someone who is a passionate multishipper. I have lived through several shipping wars in different fandoms and came out victorious after all.
I am probably the only person out there who cares about the big picture, the overall storyline and the worldbuilding of Miraculous in addition to all details and implications that could develop into fascinating plotlines relevant to the main story. It is a rather lonely fandom experience, I must confess. But, hey? Who cares? I am here to have fun and bring to the table discussions no one wants to have.
So, let's talk about the basics.
If you, as the writing team, are capable of keeping only 1 thing consistent, then please, I beg you, let it be the basic concepts of your universe. Because in this case, one has to actively put effort into writing characters and conflict resolutions badly. And also because nothing can save bad worldbuilding.
I don't have high worldbuilding standards for Miraculous. They certainly aren't as high as the ones I had for Legend of Korra (which was a badly written trainwreck, that ATLA doesn't deserve as a sequel) or the ones I currently have for Dragon Prince. Therefore I won't be too harsh in my criticisms. Granted, I think that Miraculous has better worldbuilding and lore consistency than Winx Club for example (I haven't seen the reboot yet, so writers might have fixed their worldbuilding at least a little bit). Even though I enjoyed Winx when I was younger and some elements of this story still attract me.
Both serialised and episodic shows as well as movies to the lesser extent must have some flexibility in worldbuilding and plot because you can never be 100% sure where your story is going. Maybe, you'll get money for more seasons, maybe not. However, you must never lose sight of your basic concepts. They have to stay the same no matter what, because rewriting lore and retconning major developments every new season is not and never will be called good writing.
Forgive me for using architectural metaphors, but you need a solid foundation to build any kind of structure. Otherwise, everything falls apart.
I like to apply this logic to writing as well. When designing a world where your story takes place, you must lay a few ground rules. It's especially important if you have a magic system. What kind of ideas absolutely must exist? What kind of conclusion do you want your story to have? Does your magic system has limitations? Where is the grey area? Could you introduce new elements later on?
And I feel like the writing team of Miraculous Ladybug did not ask these questions. This may feel like I am nit-picking canon material and looking for problems that simply aren't there, but I promise that I am not. You see, things that I am about to point out only seem small at first glance. But these details are actually the source of the largest plotholes in the series. And their presence negatively affects character development, conflicts and resolutions of said conflicts.
That doesn't mean that I have nothing good to say about the magic system of the show and its elements. There are a lot of great ideas and concepts. And some of them have the potential to contribute to the delightful story.
Let's dive right into it, shall we?
Tumblr media
Camouflage
I have to give credit where it's due because the idea of camouflage and shapeshifting for Miraculouses is brilliant. It seems like Miraculous can't fundamentally change its type of jewellery or accessory. The ring will always be the ring but with a different ornament, colour or shape. This is true most of the time (Monkey Miraculous is an exception since it transformed into earplugs/headphones/headband/circlet) It makes sense and avoids plotholes. Grimoire doesn't have the pictures of each Miraculous in disguise for identity protection. That was very neat too. I have no comments. This concept was very good.
Also, since Marinette wore a nose ring of the Ox in "Kwamibuster" without any problem and Adrien wore Ladybug's earrings in "Reflekdoll", we can assume that you don't need to have piercings to wear a Miraculous. Miraculous just magically passes through your skin.
I'm interested to know the following. Can Kwamis recognise a camouflaged Miraculous on a person? Can the holder order them to confess the identity of this person? This shouldn't be possible for identity protection just like with Kwamis sensing each other. But more on that in later posts.
Power Levels
For a long time, we assume that there are only 7 Miraculouses. Turtle belongs to Master Fu, Gabriel has Butterfly and Peacock, Marinette and Adrien have Ladybug and Black Cat. Everything is pretty straightforward. Then it's revealed that there are more jewels and more boxes. It makes the worldbuilding interesting, but it also majorly complicates things, making them inconsistent.
Their position in the Miracle Box implies their power levels. Creation and destruction are the most powerful forces in existence, therefore they are at the top. Moreover, it makes this Box the most important, the most powerful out of all others. Su Han in "Furious Fu" calls it "Mother Miracle Box". Fox, Turtle, Bee, Butterfly and Peacock have less power than the main pair, but more than the Miraculous of the lower Zodiac tier (since they correspond with animals of the Chinese Zodiac).
1. Ladybug can create anything out of nothing (Lucky Charm, which gives what you need the most at the moment). This Miraculous can resurrect the dead, reverse the effects of the Cataclysm. The power of Miraculous Cure or Miraculous Ladybug can work in several ways:
it simply repairs the damage (puts stuff back together, heals injuries and so on)
it reverses time for the matter, restoring things back to the state they were before the destruction occurred (however, the Cure doesn't erase people's memories of everything that happened unless they were mind-controlled, frozen in place or transformed by Akuma into something else - this is an important point that I'll discuss some other time)
How does Miraculous Cure work when there are no supervillians? In NY Special Marinette just says this.
Tumblr media
Excuse me, what? What was that? You can't do anything when the villain is gone? What the hell?
*insert here every scene where Ladybug fixed Paris after destroying akumatized/amokized object (this action causes the Akuma victim to detransform/sentimonster to disappear - villain is gone) and purifying butterfly and feather*
It was such cheap angst. I couldn't even be upset when Adrien gave up his Miraculous, because that whole situation is just stupid. But, never mind. We aren't talking about that today.
Apparently, Lucky Charm and Miraculous Cure only work when summoned to battle a specific villain. What is the point then? Huh? You can't tell me that Ladybug has the power of unlimited creation and then say that she can't repair the damage without a special Lucky Charm that was magically synchronised with specific big bad of the week.
Ladybug also can purify Akumas. It makes sense for Ladybug to have the ability to reverse the magic of less powerful Miraculous. But this power can't be applied universally. How does this power of reversal apply to different situations where there is no evil Butterfly holder? Can Ladybug reverse the magic of any Miraculous?
The unlimited power of creation introduced in season 4 ("Mr. Pidgeon 72") is another fascinating thing. On one hand, it's logical and proves the status of this Miraculous as the most powerful. On the other hand, by introducing this power, you have created a plothole. Look, Marinette can create the charm which repels Akumas. If Ladybug can create anything then what stops her from creating a tool for finding Hawkmoth (like special glasses for discovering identities or a compass)? I mean, the show says that the power of creation is unlimited, it means that the creation of such tool is possible.
2. Black Cat can destroy anything with Cataclysm, even other Miraculous. He can kill living things and turn them into ash, but not himself. This Miraculous is supposed to have other special abilities that we don't see. And they should be equal to powers of Ladybug, both in number and in potency. Unfortunately, after 3 seasons writers didn't give us anything. It makes laughable the idea of balance between Ladybug and Black Cat.
Now, to the second tier. These Miraculouses have a singular ability, but they need a second one to keep the power balanced between Zodiac and the main pair.
3. Butterfly creates champions with different superpowers. But how does the time limit of children work for Butterfly? In theory, the countdown should start right after the creation of the Akuma since for Ladybug and Chat Noir countdown starts after activation of their powers even if they don't use them. However, if the countdown of the Butterfly begins after Akuma creation then there's no point because the holder has to stay transformed to guide their champion. The charged butterfly won't have time to even grant powers before the transformation of the child-holder drops. This issue is never explored because Gabriel doesn't have a time limit. However, I feel like it should be addressed in flashbacks of past Butterfly holders for example.
This Miraculous should be less powerful than Ladybug and Black Cat. It's often not. Some Akumas are too overpowered. Stormy Weather can move the Earth away from the Sun, Timetagger can send people through time and jump through time as well, Chat Blanc destroyed the world with a single energy blast, Miraculer could steal powers of those more powerful than her by default. These are the most notable examples. One could argue that Chat Blanc was a different case. Hawkmoth simply gave the most powerful Miraculous a boost. However, we know that even without a holder (the wildest and the most powerful form of uncontrolled Miraculous magic) Plagg's Cataclysm can't destroy the universe just like that (he presumably wiped out dinosaurs and sunk Atlantis on his own without a holder). I think that the less powerful Miraculous (Butterfly) shouldn't be able to increase the power of destruction to such a degree and give Black Cat the power to destroy celestial bodies and galaxies.
Writers want us to see Hawkmoth as the formidable villain. But it's not easy because he is less powerful than your main heroes by default of your worldbuilding. Sometimes writers make the Butterfly more powerful than creation and destruction to raise the stakes, breaking the laws of their magic system. So, how do you solve this? Let Ladybug and Black Cat keep their status as the most powerful and instead of giving Hawkmoth more magical power, make him smarter, more cunning, inventive. Gabriel is a fashion designer, whose creativity makes him a very good Butterfly holder. He has a life full of experience, he knows much more about things than the main teenage characters. Catalyst was very interesting for this very reason. Gabriel sort of discovered a cheat code to boost his powers. Show us how he experiments with his powers, how he analyses his past Akumas and tries to find the most effective ones. Maybe Gabriel tries to design Akumas that can specifically neutralise Ladybug and Chat Noir. This exploration could also give writers an opportunity to explain how the powers of Butterfly work. Can he control the type of powers he grants? Can he control the appearance of Akumas? There are many things to be explored.
4. Peacock creates sentimonsters. I remember that fans were very disappointed when the power of the Peacock was revealed at the end of season 2. I was one of them. The concept of Amoks is far too similar to akumatized butterflies. Other Miraculouses have unique abilities and keywords for their powers, while Peacock just looks like Butterfly 2.0. That glowing mask effect just adds insult to injury.
You have to start by figuring out the powers of the Peacock in a normal situation. If a holder is a good person, then how does their power work? For example, make them related to sight (because of the "eye" pattern on feathers). Maybe, Peacock grants the ability to see the several possibilities of the future, but only a few minutes ahead. Maybe, this Miraculous gives you the ability to see through someone's eyes for a few minutes (and the victim is completely unaware of the intrusion). Perhaps, Peacock allows the holder to use feathers (or tiny peacocks) as cameras one at a time and be all-seeing. These feather-spies can be destroyed by the holder or disappear on their own after some time. Such power could be devastating when used against heroes in canon.
5. Bee can paralyze. This power is pretty straightforward. Once I read a fanfiction focused on very vell done Chloe Redemption, where she fights alongside Ladybug and Chat Noir. Eventually, she grows and becomes a better person. This fic ends with an Akuma battle, where LB and CN are trapped and Akuma is ready to kill them. But Chloe uses a second power of the Bee on the villain - Miraculous Stinger. It's deadly both for the holder and for the victim (because bees die when they sting someone). Chloe kills the Akuma with a Stinger before it can get LB and CN, but she too dies making the ultimate irreversible sacrifice. I will add a link if I find it again.
6. Turtle can create a shield. I don't have much to say on this either. It feels underpowered compared to others in the second tier. Maybe Turtle can also slow down opponents (because turtles aren't the fasters animals out there).
7. Fox creates illusions and acts as their puppeteer. In order to create a balance between other powers, these illusions must hold for as long as the holder needs them to. I propose this mostly because we see that Venom of the Bee lasts very long, the shield of the Turtle lasts either until it's destroyed or the holder wants to remove it, same goes for Akumas and sentimonsters who disappear only when the holder wants them to or their affected object is destroyed.
Let's talk about Zodiac tier. Miraculous of the third tier shouldn't have the second ability like more powerful ones. These powers are the most inconsistent. Even if we haven't seen all of them yet.
8. Mouse can create many small clones of the holder. It is unclear how these clones communicate with each other and how many of them this Miraculous can create. The holder can control the number of clones. This power was very convenient in "Kwamibuster" and it makes sense symbolically for the mouse. What activates the time-limit for children? Marinette didn't have any problems with it when she became Multimouse.
9. Snake can create a 5-minute time loop and has the ability to come back in time. This Miraculous feels a bit overpowered for the Miraculous of the Zodiac Tier. The holder can reset the time as many times as he/she needs to. It's was a good source of drama and trauma in "Desperada". I was honestly surprised that Adrien was capable of fighting after spending months in a loop. But this doesn't change the fact that Snake is overpowered. You can give this Miraculous the power to hypnotise or keep the time ability but place a limit on the number of resets. How does the lyre work as a weapon? Who knows? No one!
10. Dragon can shapeshift into elements: water, wind and lightning. It has the coolest transformation words hands down (Bring the Storm and Open Sky). Apparently this Miraculous doesn't have the time limit.
11. Rabbit can time travel or jump through alternative realities, even writers aren't sure. Time-travel in this show is so badly written it gives me a headache. This Miraculous shouldn't exist just like its powers. Snake belongs to the same tier, but 5 minutes and whole centuries of time jumps aren't comparable in power levels. They are not and this is the hill I will die on. Give the Rabbit powers related to its symbolism in China like an ability to de-age people, heal them or give them a speed boost in contrast with Turtle who might have the ability to slow down.
This Miraculous is so special that its Kwami - Fluff can live separately from his Miraculous in a Miracle Box for millennia (Fluff lives in the Box in "Sandboy", but his Miraculous, pocket watch, was passed down for generations in Alix's family). This is a discussion for a separate post, however. There's a lot to unpack. We'll do that some other time. You will suffer with me but at a later date.
12. Horse can create portals. They could lead anywhere, which is pretty cool. On the other hand, this power is not very useful in direct combat, especially when it's used by a child since we can have only one portal per transformation.
13. Monkey can cause a malfunction in powers of other people. What is the point of this? This power was specifically created by writers to defeat Akuma in "Party Crasher". That's it. What if your target is not magical? How does this Miraculous work in different circumstances?
14. Pig shows people their greatest desire. Both the holder and the recipient of this power can see this desire. Chat Noir wasn't impressed in "Guiltrip" and neither was I. It's underpowered compared to other Miraculous in this tier. Also, why does the tambourine can shoot energy beams? Why?
That's all I have to say on the matter. I'll update the power analysis as needed.

Have you heard? Miraculous Ladybug's next special will be set in Brazil, meaning that we'll be getting a brazilian Miraculous Holder. Since you're brazilian yourself, I thought you should know.
Yes, I know. And she already has sparked loads of controversies with the BR community.
Firstly because the Miraculous that has been chosen for her was a butterfly (despite the fact that we already have a Butterfly Miraculous in canon).
And as expected, Brazilian Twitter was outraged by this uncreative choice of an animal. Like, why couldn't it be a jaguar (onça)? Or a blue macaw (arara azul) instead?
And then I think to myself, that things could've been much, MUCH worse: They could've picked a monkey (which it could've been extremely offensive to black people, and stupid AF because we already have a Monkey Miraculous), or a green parrot (as a not-so-subtle reference to José Carioca, who's a erroneous caricature of brazilian people, often being portrayed as lazy and a womanizer).
I'm not gonna give you guys the visual, but trust me, it's awful. She looks like a fucking Winx Club reject, that's all I'm gonna say. Research for them at your own peril.
And secondly, plenty of people are already aware of the show's glaring issues with racism with both black and asian communities, so there are rumors that the special might be cancelled, therefore not airing on Brazil. And in my honest opinion, I sincerely hope that these rumors turn out to be true.
I feel sorry for my younger brother, because he's a huge fan of the Miraculous series (although he doesn't really seem to mind about the shameless plotholes and Marinette's shittiness; but I strongly believe that he should be on the lookout for better shows)...
Oh, and there's also gonna be an african Miraculous Holder in future, and if you guessed that their chosen animal will be a lion, you were right on the money!
