Ch211 (p3), Take us to your master
Artie and Theo get Finny to the surface. Finny isn't sure why they bothered to save him, but Artie has a point: they still need him. Even if it's just instructions on what's next. Or where his master should be waiting for a report. Theo just wants Finny to conserve his energy.
Tumblr media
Oliver helps Finny out of the water, which is quite different from how Finny pushed Oliver in. Finny thanks him, and Oliver just goes right in for a hug. For a brief moment, Finny smiles a bit.
But Theo gets right down to business. They don't have their evidence anymore, but they have a lot of information.
Tumblr media
There's no reason to report to the police or the Yard anymore. So, Theo wants to go straight to our earl and Sebastian to make the report.
Tumblr media
Idk if they are looking at the orphanage for a moment or if they are already walking away, but Finny notices the nearby windpump and recalls arriving there, just recently, with Snake... and it makes him cry.
Tumblr media
One good thing about the staff waiting down there is they won't see the kids return but will assume they have drowned. They might keep someone down there (like in shifts) to wait for bodies to surface, but none will. Still, they will probably think the bodies are there and just stuck at the grating or something. No one from the orphanage will be looking for them outside... unless one of them finally discovers the busted grate.
I was hoping they would destroy the windpump and flood the underground facility, but it looks like they are focused on making a report and perhaps returning with reinforcements.
The chapter isn't over just yet. One more part to go.

“endless” and “return” from this prompts list, requested by @mercurygray ‘for your newest-to-you fandom!’
Okay, so we all said we wouldn’t come up with OCs for MotA before the show even came out, but, well. Meet Rosie Clifton, ATA pilot, who strolled into my head before I could tell her to wait her turn.
Twice a week she is put on taxi duty, flying the Anson from airfield to airfield to ferry the pilots to their next delivery. In the bluish half-light of dawn she taxies out and takes off, feeling the familiar and still-thrilling swoop in her stomach as the machine finally lifts into the air. She is kept busy through the day, and in the evening she makes the rounds again, picking up the pilots close enough to the pool to bring back; the others are fated for an overnight stay somewhere, or a nighttime journey by rail, sitting on their flight bags in the corridor of a cramped and stuffy train.
It is the end of a glorious day in late summer. This is the time she loves the most, the image to hold on to in the depths of winter, shivering in some draughty dispersal hut: the sun slipping beneath the clouds and gilding their edges, the sea still, today, and shining like beaten copper, the fields and waterways of the Fens and Broads stretching out beneath her, seemingly endless, disappearing into the golden haze along the horizon. Trees and churches and windpumps cast long shadows; she catches sight of the shadow of the Anson, too, rippling across salt marsh and grassy farmland, across rivers and woods.
Behind her, along the length of the fuselage, her passengers are shouting to each other, trying to make conversation over the roar of the engines. Rosie is quite content in her solitude. She could fly on and on like this, chasing the lowering sun forever westwards.
She follows the curve of the coast, flying low, glimpsing a train, billowing steam, cars on the roads, the white sails of small boats on the rivers. The sun glints off something in the far distance: barrage balloons around London. She crosses the Deben, the Orwell, the Stour, and turns the aeroplane inland, skirting the smoke over the city.
They return home by following the edge of the Chilterns, and Rosie lands back at White Waltham in the gathering dusk almost in a daze, her legs adjusting to the ordinariness of walking and her head still in the clouds, sunlit and perfect.

Ranch Windpump near Mt. Fujji in Japan
The Makaino Ranch uses this windpump to pump water for the horses they have in a small corral used for tourists who want to experience riding a horse. The windpump is fully functional and is actually used to water the horses and parts of the pasture where the horses graze.
If you look closely, you can see the outline of Mt. Fuji in the background. I want to come back in winter when the view of Mt. Fuji will be clearer and more prominent with snow on the peak.

Ch211, Spoilers part 2
Artie and Theo had gone back into the water to get Finny. Maybe he thought he'd been left behind, and they had to reassure him they wouldn't do that? 🤷🏻‍♀️
Tumblr media
Finny might have thought he was a goner for sure this time, but Oliver hugs Finny to thank him. Theo isn't wasting much time and gets to thinking about the jars of organs, perhaps the fact they don't have them anymore. What are they going to use as evidence, if they get to the authorities?
Tumblr media
Theo says something else, then they look back to the orphanage.
Tumblr media
Finny looks at the nearby windpump and is reminded of when he and Snake arrived. Then he starts to cry.
Tumblr media
The chapter isn't over just yet. Ultimately, I hope Finny and the others figure out a way to break the windpump and flood the underground facilities, along with any staff that might still be down there.
But....

The village of Thurne in The Broads, NorfolkAt first glance, you might assume that the bucolic scene in our image is located somewhere in the Netherlands. Or perhaps the Belgian countryside. The windmill in the distance may throw some viewers off, but those structures aren't all that rare in this part of eastern England. The Broads is located mostly within the county of Norfolk and is a system of inland waterways, a navigable landscape of canals, rivers and lakes – the latter known as 'broads'. Up until the 1960s, experts believed that these lakes were natural. But they were actually formed when peat excavations were flooded by rising sea levels in the Middle Ages. And that windmill – or, more accurately windpump – in our image? Like others in the area, this one in Thurne served to drain canals in the wetlands.

Karlevi Dutch Windmill, Sweden (No. 4)
A windmill is a structure that converts wind power into rotational energy by means of vanes called sails or blades, specifically to mill grain (gristmills), but the term is also extended to windpumps, wind turbines and other applications. The term wind engine is sometimes used to describe such devices.
Windmills were used throughout the high medieval and early modern periods; the horizontal or panemone windmill first appeared in Greater Iran during the 9th century, the vertical windmill in northwestern Europe in the 12th century. Regarded as an icon of Dutch culture, there are approximately 1,000 windmills in the Netherlands today.
