You were going to kill your boyfriend. Yes, you love him, but you were going to kill him. Sam had made you sit down and watch one of his favorite scary movies since he argued that “You always pick the movie.” Pfft, yeah right, you thought to yourself as you sat down on the couch earlier that night. You thought that you could handle the movie since you were older now. You were no longer that scared twelve year old in your friends basement being forced to watch The Exorcist. You were a mature, young adult with a kick-ass job and a kick-ass boyfriend. When Sam had popped the movie into the DVD player, you had convinced yourself that you would be fine. You couldn’t have been more wrong.

Not even twenty minutes into the movie and you were cowering into Sam’s shoulder. Everytime a jump-scare popped up on Sam’s annoyingly big flat-screen TV, a small squeal would emit from you as you tried to bury yourself farther into Sam’s chest. By the time that the movie was over, you had burrowed your way almost completely behind Sam.

“Oh, c’mon, (Y/N),” Sam smiled. “It wasn’t that bad.”

“Yes it was!” You replied into the back of Sam’s shirt, muffling your voice. “How can you people stand these horrible movies?!”

A laugh escaped Sam’s chest at his cowering girlfriend, to which you swiftly punched him in the arm. “Hey! Why’d you do that?”

“Because you are the world’s worst boyfriend for forcing me to watch that!”

“Oh, that’s how it is?” Sam smiled as he rolled his eyes. He felt you nod your head between his shoulder blades in response. Rolling his eyes once more, Sam moved to get up. “Well, since I am the world’s worst boyfriend, I’m going to bed by myself.”

“No!” Grabbing onto his arm, you pulled him back to you. “You have to protect me!”

Looking at the big puppy-dog eyes you were giving him, Sam couldn’t help but feel a little sorry for making you sit through that. But only a little bit. “Only if you say that I am the best boyfriend in the world.”

“Oh, you’re the best boyfriend in the world!” You scrambled onto your knees while still on the couch to somewhat come face to face with your standing boyfriend.

“The world’s best kisser?”

“Most definitely!”

“Best superhero?”

“Well, I don’t know about that…” You teased as Sam rolled his eyes and quickly scooped you up, throwing you onto his shoulder. “Okay, okay! World’s best superhero!”

“That’s what I thought,” Sam grinned triumphantly as he carried you off to your shared bedroom.

“But Thor’s so handsome.”

“That’s it!” Sam threw you onto the bed in a fit of giggles before crawling in next to you for the night.

It was 3 o’clock in the morning when you woke up from the nightmares. That stupid, god-forsaken movie had came back to haunt you, just like you thought it would. Peeking an eye open, you looked over at Sam next to you who was peacefully asleep on his stomach with his left arm tossed over your waist. Shaking away the bad dreams, you tried to go back to sleep when a noise sounded in your house. A loud crash forced you into high-alert as your eyes snapped wide open. Of course, Sam hadn’t woken up as he was still softly snoring next to you. Just when you thought you were safe, another crash sounded through the house. Even more scared out of your wits this time, you decided to wake Sam up by poking him in the cheek.

“Wha-? What’s wrong?” He groggily asked as his eyes adjusted to the dim light of the room.

“Something made a crashing noise.”

“I’m sure it’s nothing, go back to sleep,” Sam put his head back on the pillow.

“Sam!” You whined, poking him once more. “What if it’s a serial killer, like the one from the movie!”

Sighing, Sam realized you wouldn’t give it up. “Let me go check.” Kicking the covers off, Sam padded through your apartment towards the kitchen when another crash sounded. This time Sam was alert as he peered out the kitchen window, readying himself for the danger. What he was met with though were the two glowing eyes of a raccoon who was noisily going through the neighbor’s trash bins at 3 in the morning. Walking back to your room, Sam crawled back into bed where you were waiting expectantly.

“Well?”

“Just some raccoons digging through the trash. Goodnight.”

“Sam,” You whined again, poking his face. “I’m still scared.”

Not one to turn you down, because dammit, he was the world’s best boyfriend, Sam opened up his arms for you which you happily accepted before snuggling deeply into his chest. “You can sleep, I’ll keep you safe.”

Sighing contentedly, you felt yourself drifting off to sleep. “My hero.”

Grinning at your words, Sam softly kissed your hairline as you fell asleep in his arms. No matter what, he would always protect you.

The word Jua Kali stands for “fierce Sun", Started with only nine members, 30 years ago, today the Kamkunji Jua Kali consists of about 5000 artisans who are both trained on forging metals making them into useable products such as Sculptures, religious items, utensils weapons and many more. The artisans also depends on the metal forging as a their source of income and paying their taxes.
