I don't really use tumblr from the desktop browser anymore. can anyone tell me if they denote when photos have alt text yet? I know mobile has the little ALT in the corner, but last time I was on desktop there wasn't anything

I hate it when things break in such a way that they're still technically perfectly functional but the broken thing is just really annoying. It's honestly worse than things breaking in a way that makes them non-functional cause then I just don't use the thing. But if they're still functional? Well now it's silly if I don't use it cause it still works, it's just more annoying now

A while back I finally figured out how to use UBlock's element blocker and promptly went mad with power. Just now I turned off all my extensions to debug something and realized how much more useable it made everything. As soon as I see something annoying I open the Ublock popup, select the element picker, click the annoying thing, and (most of the time) the annoying thing is gone forever and I never have to think about it. So here's my shameless ad pitch for things you can do with it, other than the default "block ads":
Remove all of the UI buttons that are definitely useful for someone but that you're never going to use in your life
Remove UI buttons you use only once, like "register"
Hide the "Posts +" button in tumblr
Clear all of the information your credit card website tries to show you that you don't care about so that you can focus on the couple numbers that you do
Send those pop-up "do you want to chat!" notifications to hell, where they belong
Remove various website overlays
Remove specifically the calorie numbers on food delivery websites
Hide the comments and recommended videos sidebar on youtube
Hide promotions that an adblocker doesn't pick up on because they're native
Hide your facebook newsfeed (if you just use it for chat/events/groups)
Hide discord's sidebar when you just need one channel open and don't want to be distracted, and then unhide it when you want it back
Get rid of distracting moving elements on pages
Hide almost all of the elements on twitter except the actual tweet, if you only interact with twitter via other people's links and don't want to be sucked down the rabbit hole
Generally hide "Related!" or "See also" or "You might like!" type distractions on sites where you only want to see what you came there for, not browse
Remove all of the news from weather websites so that they can actually do their job and show you just the weather
Remove the footer text on websites no one ever reads

literally im not even close to kidding one of the best things you can do if you encounter a baby bigot in the wild (a child or young adult who had clearly been indoctrinated by hatred and fear (specifically evangelical flavor)), is to be kind to them. there is nothing that cracks that worldview faster. if you listen to people who escaped that life and ask them how they got out, a lot of times it’s because when they were a teenager or young adult, they met people from outside their immediate community and realized they were just regular human beings.
like don’t put yourself in danger or anything but really truly really it does make a long term difference a lot of the time if you’re nice. it’s just that you don’t get to see it because the unlearning takes years.

board game night is a total nightmare in the agency because nick is a robot who is pretty good at chess but not great and despite literal years passing gloria never gets over this fact. this was in her 'pros' section of dating a mechanical guy. if he makes a move that's pretty good but not The Most Optimal she will say what the fuck out loud. he has the hardware to consistently thrash her in it but unfortunately the software is 'a guy who's a pretty strong logical thinker' and that's quite the gap

whats fun about barry as a protagonist vs other Morally Complicated Guy Shows is that he seriously has no ambition lol, his wildest dreams arent like becoming super rich or relishing in holding power over people, like all he wants is simple happiness, maybe career success, normal life stuff, his wildest dreams are like…. being able to have a wedding. having a kid or two. and theres something reasonable about that, it makes him relatable for a while until the show is very clearly like No dude, that is a fucking serial killer, you should not gaf! and you’re like oh right lol. it’s crazy to make such a simple desire seem so malicious but still human

i just got caught up on frieren: beyond journey's end and wow. wow. what an incredible 9 episodes so far. the concept is intriguing and the execution so far has absolutely no complaints from me, and frieren is honestly a great main character--there hasn't been a single side character i've disliked, either. and ough. the attention to craft is insane.
like. when the pink demon loli imitates eisen/stark's fighting style it's genuinely recognizable because stark has such a visible, memorable fighting stance (that half-crouch). i love it when anime take fight choreography seriously.
and especially when frieren claims that fern is a faster shot than her, you can kind of see it comparing the blonde demon twink/fern battle with the aura/frieren battle. frieren's shots are slow even if she dodges really fast while fern fights like she's packing a semiauto in her staff. plus the continued thread of zotraak being demon magic that frieren helped break down and build into demon-KILLING magic is insane btw. and the fact that frieren couldn't sense fern's presence by her mana when they first met is echoed in ep8 too?? I LOVE chekhov's gun used well.

things you shouldn't say if you wanna claim the moral high ground.
(context being me pointing at that, yes, what susan sarandon said was actually antisemitic, which got me, like, 4+ paragraphs rife with false claims and Even More Antisemitism in response, apparently meant to be directed at me? bc they somehow assumed the only reason anyone would point out antisemitism is if they're a white jewish zionist. makes you think!)
