I have this thing about surrounding myself with things that make me smile and spark a memory- all the little things that I have collected and gathered for the studio over the years. I fell in love with the practice of nesting and ordering my space long ago. My first day working in the new space :) I’m still working out the kinks but I had a pretty productive first day. I finished up some outstanding orders and started on some pieces for American Craft Council. My oven got jostled in transit and the marks I made for what temperature works for my pieces got lost 😭. So I had to spend the morning doing some test pieces to make sure things were correct, but other than that no major issues so far. The place we are staying has two goats and some chicken right next to us so it’s fun to watch them out the window! We got out for our first hike yesterday, a short nearly vertical trail up a mountain that overlooks the town. It’s so beautiful here! I’m loving Bozeman so far :)

Sunday Sides! ⁣ ⁣ It’s not a thing, just thought it would grab your attention 😁 So I roasted up a few veggies and now I’m calling them ZESTY ZA’ATAR ZINGERS. ⁣ ⁣ I’m sorry, I’ll stop now 😳⁣ ⁣ ⁣ New potatoes, quartered | 2 large carrots, peeled and sliced on the diagonal | 1 medium onion, diced | 3 garlic cloves, whole | ⁣ Brussel sprouts, trimmed and halved | 1 teaspoon za’atar | 1 teaspoon harissa | 1 teaspoon sumac | Salt and pepper to taste | Olive oil | 1/2 fresh lemon⁣ ⁣ {Pre heat oven 400 degrees F⁣ Into a large bowl add carrots, potatoes, onion, and garlic, sprinkle spices over top, drizzle olive oil and mix . Pour veggies on to a parchment lined rimmed baking sheet and roast for 10 minutes. Remove from oven add prepared brussels sprouts, salt and pepper mix and back into the oven for 30 min. Remove after 15 min, stir and return to the overnight for the remaining 15 min or until fork tender. I never dreamed this nondescript window would bring me so much joy. My favorite thing about my studio is the natural light that floods the room. This one simple thing uplifts me and motivates me to create. There is something about perfect lighting that adds polish to a moment and illustrates a sense of mood. Today is International Women’s Day. I could go on about the importance of everyone supporting women for a very long time, but instead I’m going to encourage you to follow and support @wherewomencreate. The community at Where Women Create is one I deeply believe in. The founder has spent ten years tirelessly promoting female creatives from all across the globe by encouraging them to share their own stories in their own words. In my opinion there is such great value in that. Women supporting women. Today I would like to introduce you to the most vibrant, liveliest and the oldest Japanese female painter, Kazuko Irie. She was born in 1915. Can you guess how old she is now? Can you believe she still paints so powerfully and humbly to this day at her atelier in Japan. She said once in the interview that she finally understood what painting is all about at the age of 100. You can read her bio below, but my message through this painting is this; It’s never ever too late to start doing what you love to do. Keep on searching, Keep on changing. Keep on going. And go at life full speed, embracing it, loving it and staying curious about it. Lukewarm is no good. Make wherever you are your atelier, your studio, your life stage. Kazuko Irie is a Japanese painter. She was born in 1915 and still paints powerfully at her own atelier/gallery at the age of 106. Fascinated by the beauty and vastness in the land of Silk Road, an ancient trading route between China and Europe that passes through West Asian highlands, she has visited more than 30 countries along Silk Road, documenting the wild nature, its people and their customs in the mountainous areas in Eurasian continent in her sketches and paintings since 1969.
