Hi Comet! Here's another headcanon question. The whole band share one tourbus because I say so.

Who is the main person responsible for the roadtrip playlists? Which ghoul is banned from adding songs to the queue and why is it Rain for adding "What's New Pussycat?" 25 times in a row? Is there a song that everyone sings along to? Any songs added ironically to a playlist that the band members end up liking un-ironically by the end of the tour?

HI! Road trip music headcanons under the cut because I'm insane and I had thoughts.

Cirrus is the head playlist maker. She is almost too organized, and this leads to being very good at putting together very curated playlists. They tend to be a little predictable sometimes, but there are certain days when that's exactly what they all need. Her playlists are best for quiet off days when everyone is tired, or long night drives. Swiss is the other trusted playlist maker. He is less curated, a little more random. But is good at picking songs that everyone likes. His goal with all of his playlists is to keep the mood up. He wants to hype everyone up, keep everyone happy. His playlists are great for sing-a-longs on long travel days. Sunshine was banned from having her playlists played on the bus when it became clear that 60% of them were comedy bands, or weird mixes of songs together (think Neil Cicierega) and while sometimes that's a great vibe at the Abbey, it's a little grating on tour. Rain is absolutely banned from adding songs to the queue. He is not allowed to be in control of the music at all. He's too unhinged, and known for, yes, playing the same song on repeat. He also has no sense of what songs should come after what. He thinks it's perfectly acceptable to put Cattle Decapitation on directly after The Spice Girls. He doesn't understand what everyone's problem is. Mountain is only allowed to play music late at night. He has a penchant for classical and folk songs and singer-songwriter stuff. everyone else is fine with that, but not when they're trying to get hyped up for a show. There are only so many sea shanties they can all take before someone is throwing something at Mountain and physically wrestling control of the music away from him. Aether's the classic rock guy. Loves his 70s and 80s rock. Especially punk. He is allowed to have control of the music during long days, but only until he starts playing the obscure stuff. Everyone is on board when he's playing The Clash and Black Sabbath and Van Halen, but as soon as he starts breaking out some punk band from London that only ever played one show he's cut off. Cumulus plays a lot of shoegaze. indie. early emo (Cursive is one of her favorites). She likes her music a little dreamy a little moody. Also a great choice for when they're driving through the night. But like Aether, when things start to get too obscure and weird someone has to cut her off. Dew is, weirdly, the best at manning the queue. When they've gotten sick of the playlists and everyone else has exhausted their permissions Dew is really good at finding the vibe and working with it. He knows a lot of music. And, while, if you caught him listening to k-pop back at the Abbey he would deny it until his last breath, he doesn't have shame about playing his guilty pleasure music for the rest of the band as long as it helps keep the peace. If asked about it, he'll say he knows it for this specific reason. No no, he's not mouthing the words, you're insane. Copia is really into early rock. Buddy Holly. The Beach Boys. The Monkees, all of that kind of stuff. He is also, inexplicably VERY into disco. If they don't listen to Abba's entire discography at least once during the tour he gets sad. Guaranteed full party sing-a-long songs? - I Want It That Way - Backstreet Boys - Take On Me - A Ha -Dancing Queen - Abba -Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen -Literally anything by Lady Gaga. I think there are A LOT of songs that get played while they're queuing music that get a lot of eye rolls at first or are played for the laugh, that they end up falling in love with by the end of the tour. Something about singing a song with people you love can make even the most cringe songs loveable. I also think that some of Sunshine's "weird joke" songs start to grow on them (turns out everyone loves Ninja Sex Party by the end of the tour).

i was tagged by the lovely @rylie-studies!! thank you sm for tagging me!! ilysm! sorry this is so late, i’ve been trying to think of good answers to your wonderful questions!

#1: What are you looking forward to the most in the upcoming school (both high school and university level) year?

for the upcoming school year, i’m most looking forward to my environmental science class and the upcoming volleyball season. our school has needed to move around our schedule so a lot of things that i usually really love won’t be possible (in person scrim practices, hanging out in the spanish teacher’s room, etc.). i am really glad that sports w/ protective measures have been deemed safe enough. 

#2: If you could choose to live in any country in the world, which one would it be and why?

ooh this is such a tough one. i’ve always wanted to live abroad and i think i would really love to live in several different places throughout my life, but if i had to pick one, i think i would live in switzerland. my family and i went on an italy-switzerland summer trip a few years ago and while i loved staying in milan, the alpine scenery really called to me. 

#3: What’s a book that resonates with you the most and you’ll read it as many times as you possibly can?

i have two answers for this question actually! a book that resonates with me the most is The Traveling Cat Chronicles by Arikawa Hiro. i cried so much while reading it and it really affected me. a book i will read as many times as i can is Howl’s Moving Castle. i can travel to ingary a thousand times and each time i will find something new i hadn’t even noticed. the reason i have two answers is that when i read books that resonate with me, i don’t tend to read them over and over again; i usually prefer to keep those initial feelings i had untouched, especially because i remember plotlines pretty well. the books i read over and over again usually have sentimental value and while they probably won’t win any pulitzer prizes, they mean so much to me. 

#4: What do you usually do before you sleep at night?

honestly, i don’t really have much of a routine before sleeping. i try to take melatonin regularly as well as lysine supplements and drink water with both pills. reading is also important to me because it allows me to relax without needing too much light (i have some fairy lights on my headboard that have adjustable intensities!). i always make sure i set my alarm for the next day too!

#5: If you got the chance to converse with your ten year old self, what’s one thing that you would say to them?

you don’t have to have everything figured out yet. take your time and relish being a kid. you’ll figure things out. 

#6: If there weren’t any expectations or pressures given to you, what would you want your life to look like in the future? What job will you have? Where will you live?

no expectations and pressures, including my own? that’s the dream baby. as of right now, i think i would buy a little house in the middle of a clearing in the woods and grow a small garden that i’d use to run a little stand at the end of my driveway. for my job, i want to be financially stable and able to leave work at work without being too disinterested in my career. i also have a dog and two cats and a healthy relationship with myself.

#7: What’s a song that seems timeless to you and it always feels like you’re listening to it for the first time every time?

#8: What’s the first show that you can remember ever binge watching?

the first show i can remember actually committing to binge watching was brooklyn nine nine. i watched five seasons in about three weeks the summer after my freshman year of hs to cope with my boyfriend breaking up with me. that show was such a huge comfort to me at that time and i was so glad to have watched it then. 

#9: Did you watch Disney Channel when you were young? If so, what was your favorite show and why? Or, if you didn’t watch Disney Channel, what was your favorite show as a kid?

yeah i did! phineas and ferb was definitely one of my favorites just because each episode would be different, and there was always at least one storyline that was super compelling. i still have the perry the platypus tshirt my dad made me for christmas one year.

Just going to say this. The fandom is so focused on barchie v bughead that those two white ships are always the focus of everything. And I get it. You’re passionate about ships you enjoy and there’s no fault in doing that. It’s entirely valid no matter which way you ship. But the fandom is so saturated with them, and then seconded by that it’s Cheryl content. That it’s so hard to fill up a reblog queue because the lack of poc content is frustrating. I try and fill my feed with all things Toni, Veronica, Tabitha, the pussycats, Reggie, Fangs, Sweet Pea etc. but the tags are dry. I go through the source blogs searching every name and ship I can for those characters and there’s rarely anything new.

People will make gifs of Toni the first few days after a new episode and then it goes silent. But there’s always constant new barchie or bughead or sometimes even varchie and Choni. But Veronica on her own? You reblog all the new posts and then there’s nothing else to find. You reblog all the Toni from a new episode and then people forget about her again. Reggie? Forget it. Fangs? If you’re lucky. And that’s not saying that their individual fans don’t care because they do. I’m talking about the big league gif makers who get hundreds and thousands of notes. They don’t make content constantly for the poc. Because those posts don’t bring them notes or clout.

The fandom as creators and consumers don’t care about the poc. And I know and I understand that the white main leads are more popular and get more screen time. I get it. I do. But as someone who makes gifs mostly of the poc characters. It’s rough trying to find content to reblog which is why I make my own. And I’m not a talented gif maker. I know that. I try but it’s not my strength. But I want to have a feed flooded with the characters who aren’t the main 4 white characters. (No I do not mean Veronica as white. I substituted her for Cheryl who in fandom is way more popular) I don’t know what this post is even going to achieve. It’s probably going to get one note because this fandom doesn’t care about diversity unless Vanessa is literally begging for it. But please, content creators and consumers. Please don’t ignore the bipoc characters and actors. They’re just as important as anyone else.
