Spike dropped to his knees like a cut marionette when a feeling of utter sadness ripped through his chest, the startled voices of the others in the elevator muted as pure agony washed over him.

Angel was in pain, the bond between them flaring bright as the sun as he gasped for unneeded air.

"Talk to us, what's wrong?" He was vaguely aware that Lorne was calling to him, the pain lessening with each breath as Spike wildly looked around as if trying to draw the answer from nothing.

"Angel, something is wrong with Angel." He finally forces the words out from his throat, the demon practically holding him up as Fred reverses the elevator's course, heading back up as Spike clutches his head.

He wasn't going to be of any use if Angel didn't stop bombarding him with waves upon waves of agony, so with great reluctance, he took a deep breath before going still, focusing on the bond as he sent a feeling of comfort in return. At first, he doubted Angel even remembered that he could feel Spike, but after a few moments, the waves of pain subsided as the elevator doors opened, Lorne remaining with Spike as the others rushed to his office.

"You going to be alright kitten?" The demon asked as he helped the vampire onto unsteady feet, Spike nodding as his ragged breathing slowed.

"Bloody idiot was lucky I wasn't driving." Spike grumbled, pulling away from Lorne. "Go, see what's got him in knots, I'll be 'ere."

"Won't be long then." The other hurried off, and Spike sagged onto the closest couch with a sigh, waiting for his head to stop aching and the others to report back. At the same time, he poured comfort into the bond, hoping it would help calm Angel enough about whatever was happening.

Ten minutes pass before he can hear the crying, and his heart sinks as he stands, treading towards a familiar office. Wesley is stumbling out the door with a pained look, making it two steps before he throws up whatever he'd eaten in the last day, ugly sobs crawling out of his throat as the vampire steadies him. The bond threatens to flare up with more agony, and Spike resumes sending comfort through it while giving Wesley his own via a gentle pat on his back.

"What's happened?" Spike guides Wesley back toward Angel's office, pointing toward the closest chair when it's clear the other is too stunned to respond.

"C...Cordy's dead." Spike looked over at his grandsire, who was barely standing upright as he leaned against his desk.

"What? But she was 'ere a few minutes ago, breathin' as sure as anything." Spike looks around the room in confusion, the various Angel Investigations team members scattered around all in their own states of shock as they try to process what Angel has told them.

"It was a last gift, from the Powers."

"Oh..."

What else could he say? Sure, he didn't know the bird much, but she'd always had a solid head on her shoulders in the few times they had interacted.

Right, problem-solving mode it was; Spike was decent at that.

"Alright ducks, let's move this up to Angel's flat yea? No one's goin' home today, and I ain't driving with some blubberin' messes." Spike cleared his throat, his voice cutting through the heavy silence.

"Spike -"

"Can it...sire, you first." Angel's reddened eyes snapped to his at the term, and Spike just held his gaze before the older slowly got to his feet, trudging towards his elevator with his shoulders hunched. "Good."

"I can call for some cots and such, let -" Gunn was cut off when Spike shook his head.

"I'll do it, go up there an' be with the big ponce, all of you." Gunn sighed and followed after Angel, Lorne helping Fred off the floor where she'd collapsed. Wesley was still looking at the floor as Spike called the 24-hour staff to bring up some beds for the night and, after a pause, ordered food for the next day, just in case, before sitting on the arm of Wes's chair.

"She's gone." The man just sounded absolutely shattered, his voice barely a whisper as tears streamed down his face in a never-ending cascade. "She's..."

"I'm sorry." A pale hand rests on the former Watcher's shoulder, a surprising balm as Wesley does his best to memorize the carpet.

"Cordelia was the reason I stayed, with Angel - with a purpose after the Council fired me."

"Tell me about 'er, sounds like a good one."

So he does, the vampire listening as Wesley starts at the beginning, giving a weak chuckle as he describes a woman with long brunette hair he'd thought to be a teacher. Wesley talks until he has no more words, pulled up and onto his feet by Spike as they head for the elevator. Save Angel, everyone had passed out in the temporary beds littered throughout the penthouse apartment. Wesley shuffled towards the last one with a squeeze of Spike's shoulder, the vampire heading toward the figure sitting on the main bed.

"Thanks, for getting them set up."

"For once, don't mention it." Angel makes a vague noise that could be considered a chuckle. "That includes you, too."

"...I don't know what I'm going to do without her." A leather coat, usually treated with care, is dropped on the floor as Angel slips it off. His shoes get a similar treatment before he lays back on his bed, his eyes shining with unshed tears.

"You'll be alright, I reckon." Spike draws the covers over him, before moving to take the free armchair in the corner by the expansive windows. "Sleep."

For once Angel listens, leaving Spike to begin an unspoken vigil over his hurting family, a clink of his lighter the only noise as he lights the first of many cigarettes.

REVIEW

Not quite as fancy as my 911 or tgd ones lol, more like the normal ones, just with the end of a liveblog as well :).

I made a post about this before coming back to this one, but happy 100th episode all!! Lowkey forgot this was the 100th anniversary lol. But it makes so much sense and it was a GREAT 100th episode :D.

I love that everyone had their little moment (at least): James with the music, Wesley with Oscar, Luna with her college classes, etc :). And just Randy, Chastity, Oscar, and Henry BEING there lol. Though to clarify Oscar was not at the wedding xD. But seriously, I really loved all the cameos and little character moments this episode :)).

Also CHENFORD AAAHHHH!!! Their MOMENTS this episode y'all I was losing it xD. I do kinda wish it hadn't been that Tim isn't supporting her despite thinking he is, though? Because the vibes last episode were just really on Tim's side, I guess, and now they're just tossing him into "bad guy" a bit. But, I think it'll work out in the end. I'm also glad Chastity brought up that Lucy could also be scared! I think that's a real possibility :). Anyway, they were ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE and whether it was the first time in universe or not, WHOOO FIRST I LOVE YOU!! And it was so cute :'D. Also the dance 😭😭😭❤️ stop I'm not okay :').

BAILEY AND JOHN ARE MARRIED!!! WHOOOOOO :'DDDD!!!! 🥳🥳🥳🥳🎊🎉🥂🎂🥂🥰❤️❤️🥰. I'm so happy for them :'DD

They might not be my favorite couple on the show but I still love them and this has been a long time coming. I'm also glad that despite all the issues they still had the wedding and everything was okay and beautiful 🥰🥰. Thank goodness they actually had it and we saw it lol (looking at you Wopez - still mad at the writers for that). Also I'm SO EXCITED for the next episode with their honeymoon :D.

I felt so bad for Celina and Aaron this episode 😭. Aaron because poor boy is going through it and misreading signals/situations xd, and Celina because she's trying to be there for him and do what's best and she as also, you know, kidnapped and beat up xD. But, I think they'll make it through it :).

Really though Aaron you need to talk to your therapist 😭. It's dangerous going out when you know you're not healing :(. Hope he learns it soon D':.

I loved all the togetherness moments this episode!! The bachelor and bachelorette parties (y'all I can't articulate it beyond loving individual characters and them all hanging out but oUAGH chomping on it)/last minute preparations xD were SO GOOD!! And the wedding, especially the dancing :'D. AUOGH, I love them <333. And of course the final mission at the end - they slay together :DD. Also, I'm glad Celina's okay :')).

Don't even get me started on the Wopez/Wesley angst. Y'all I'm about to have so many thoughts about them moving forward (even more than usual/always xD). Like! AUGH! OSCAR!! SITTING ACROSS FROM HIM!! DO YOU KNOW HOW LONG I'VE WAITED FOR THIS

only in my old age does it hit how awful of a decision it was for angel to not only transplant the fang gang into a timeline where connor lives, but erase their memories too! it’s like the irreparable damage in season four was merely amplified. of COURSE angel doesn’t feel like his struggle’s getting him any closer to shanshu because he keeps not DEALING with this shit. he’s outchea changing timelines, wiping memories, rewinding days, etc. of COURSE he still harbors resentment against wesley bc the motherfucker’s repressed his feelings of both love and hatred towards him because how DARE one of his closest male friends try to STEAL his child and raise him on his own iNSTEAD OF WITH ANGEL HIMSELF???

and not to mention gunn/fred! they raised that boy for months! they played mom and dad while angel was hallucinating at the bottom of the ocean and wesley was enjoying his dark’ness with lilah AND tryna bring angel back to the surface, and lorne??? lorne clocked that boy’s crazy! angel, in his inability to deal with his grief and loss, stripped his team of their OWN ability to deal with their grief and loss. because THEY deserved to grieve too! wesley deserved to grieve his ousting from the group AND THE FACT THAT HIS PROPHECY FUCKING CAME TRUE. fred should have been able to grieve the crumbling of her relationship with gunn, her shame of not thinking she’s ‘champion’ enough, and the decisions she made in the throes of the literal apocalypse and the revelation that one of her key abusers was a trusted confidant. gunn should have been able to grieve the death of the son that was not his but the one he DID look after, and the relationship he ended after years of feeling helpless himself with no one caring for his needs and declining mental health.

connor was a bitch. his entire existence outside of when he was a baby was the bane of everyone’s existence, BUT HE WAS THEIR CHILD. THEY ALL TOOK TURNS RAISING HIM AND LOVING HIM. they should have been able to grieve not only his death but all the what-have-could-haves!

the tragedy of ats is that the writing was so fucking bad, it inadvertently made angel, the hero, the BIGGEST clown in the show by never allowing him to truly and honestly deal with his pain, and by extension, his team’s pain. the memory wipe was paint on rotting plaster. it wasn’t even half the fix-it angel thought it was, and all it did was diminish the suffering the fang gang had to go thru. it’s always angelus this, angelus this, wolfram and hart this wolfram and hart that, it’s never ANGEL, PLEASE DEAL. and it’s fucking tragic, because after eight seasons of content, he DID deserve to have some respite, to deal with his pain, and finally be put to rest instead of selfishly taking from his friends what only a god could do.

and angel was never a god, and yet he had access to god’s powers. instead of letting this man fucking DEAL with his shit with his friends’ support, joss instead flipped the story on its ass. deaths and unreconciled losses and relationships everywhere, until angel was left to what? fight eternally?

lmao the man never actually left hell, and his poor friends got dragged into it with him. this is why we never need a buffyverse reboot ever again. imagine giving one of the central characters from your original show a whole ass show of his own, and not even writing a conclusion for him. all these years and for what? so he could hurt lorne, watch the others die, and become the very bastard buffy called him out to be thru andrew? it’s grimdark shit from hell and i hope we never have to see a reboot or continuation of it bc IF we did, and angel was STILL doing his clown shit, then buffy WOULD be the one to send his ass to hell again bc all the story would have proved is that you can put a soul in a man, but you can’t make him like it. and how’s THAT for a metaphor? forget trying to atone for your fucking sins, cuz your ass is grass and goin straight back to hell regardless 🤦🏽‍♀️

After an attack from someone trying to get Draco, he silently asks Ron something as they sit in Saint Mungos and the others can’t help but listen to him in shock, especially since it’s the first thing he’s said, “can you promise me something?” Ron kneels I front of him and cups his face, “what is it?” Draco sighs, trying to ignore the eyes on him and the flashes goin through his head of the curses, the raping and general abuse he faced at the hands of the Deatheaters, “if they get hold of me again-“ Ron interrupts, “I won’t let that happen!” “Ron, please. If they get me, if they try to take me away… kill me.” Molly as well as Fleur and Charlie gasp loudly, but he pays no mind. “Ron, I can’t go back. I know it’s cruel for me to ask, but you know what they’ll do to me. I can’t face it again. The rape, the curses, the-the… all of it. I can’t do it again. Please. Promise me.” Molly can’t tell what’s more shocking, Dracos words and request or the fact that Ron pulls him into his arms and speaks into his hair, “I promise. I’ll never let them take you, even if it means I have to loose you too.”

FUZZY HASKINS ‘RADIO ACTIVE’ (1978)

A co-founder of the P-Funk movement, Clarence Eugene “Fuzzy” Haskins was born in West Virginia in 1941 and started as a singer in the doo-wop vocal group The Parliaments, led by George Clinton in the late 1950s. He was a founding member of the groundbreaking and influential 1970s funk bands PARLIAMENT-FUNKADELIC. Fuzzy Haskins toured and appeared on P-Funk albums as a singer, and occasionally as a guitarist, throughout the 1970s. He is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, inducted in 1997.

Despite the success of Mothership Connection, Fuzzy Haskins was growing frustrated that his songs were no longer being featured on albums by Funkadelic and Parliament. He also watched as Bootsy Collins, a relative newcomer to the family, embarked upon a solo career. This added to Haskins’ frustration and at the height of P-Funk’s popularity, Fuzzy left the ensemble to pursue a solo career.

Fuzzy Haskins released two landmark solo albums on Westbound Records: ‘A Whole Nother Thang’ in 1976 and ‘Radio Active’ in 1978. With his brand of earthy & heavyweight funk, Fuzzy Haskins’ solo works fits right in with many of the other great P-Funk side projects and was sampled by renowned artists and acts from the likes of Prince, The Prodigy, N.W.A and Fatboy Slim.

On the album we are presenting you today (Radio Active from 1978) you’ll find eight sublime tracks written (or co-written) by Mr. Haskins himself and recorded by Richard Becker at the legendary PAC 3 Recording Studios in Dearborn, Michigan where classic albums from Norman Feels and Dennis Coffey were born. One of the tracks (Woman) was personally mixed for the album by Tom Moulton (the originator of musical revolutions like ‘the remix’, ‘the breakdown section’ and the ‘12inch single vinyl format’).

Fuzzy switched between drums and guitar, while taking charge of the lead vocals and production, he was accompanied in the studio by an all-star musician line-up of P-Funk family members such as Jerome ‘Bigfoot’ Brailey (drums), Cordell ‘Boogie’ Mossom (bass), Gary Shider & Michael Hampton (guitars), Glen Goins (piano, drums & guitar)…and of course the fantastic Mr. Bernie Worrell on keyboards. Besides these Parliament/Funkadelic alumni, also present on the recordings are Bruce Nazarian (The Temptations) on Moog and Jazz pianist Gary Schunk (known for his collaborations with Marcus Belgrave & Wendell Harrison).

The result of all this musicianship was a record that oozed quality. Despite the quality of the music (and just like with ‘A Whole Nother Thang’) the album didn’t sell the vast quantities that were projected and didn’t reach the audience it deserved.

‘Radio Active’ is filled with keyboard-driven spacey funk, sharp hooks, popping bass-lines, JB styled soulful (yet sexy) vocals, a hint of disco, fantastic guitar build-ups and breaks that make you shake…a true gem that deserves a place in your record collection (mint vinyl copies are hard to find and pricey these days). If you are a Funkateer…this one’s for you!

Tidal Waves Music now proudly presents the FIRST ever vinyl reissue of ‘Radio Active’ since 1978 (the year the record was originally released on Westbound Records).

This unique album comes as a deluxe 180g vinyl edition (strictly limited to 500 copies) with obi strip and features the original artwork created by virtuoso Ronald Edwards (known for his graphic work with Parliament-Funkadelic, Bootsy Collins, Fred Wesley, George Clinton, Maceo Parker, Bernie Worrell, Fishbone…and countless others). To top it all off, this release also includes an insert featuring the original liner notes written in 1994 by renowned author and producer Rob Bowman (Otis Redding, Isaac Hayes, Marvin Gaye) who reflects on Fuzzy Haskins’ two solo albums.

Jeeesus, lucky suns’uh bitches, wit’ me bein’ able to translate that shit-- only reason I’m lucky is ‘cause we got some roots in English in there. Crazy stuff, y’kno’ how much we just kinda-- take shit from others? Latin? French? Fuckin’ Old German? Crazy... ” A moment of nerding out, as Max would say-- but with a snort he moved to try to sit himself up... though, he grimaced not long afterward as his leg had moved a bit too much for his comfort. “ Fffhhhuck, fuckfuckfuck fuck... ”

      Once he looked up as he now sat himself up in bed, he fluffed his pillow and only finally brought his gaze to B.J’s when he heard the last sentence, making him pause.

      “ ... yeah. I am, Cap. ” His voice got rather quiet as a result-- perhaps out of character for him, but with the topic? He really wasn’t gonna risk a blue discharge. Walls could be paper-fucking-thin. “ Jus’-- I guess tryin’ to wrap my head around it, y’kno’? I-- I’m gonna be honest, I expected gettin’ my ass kicked... ”

      Hesitation. But then, a genuine smile instead of that big ol’ grin he’d always put on merely moments before.

      “ Y’really... made it way easier t’a keep fightin’, y’kno’? Jus’ that talk really helped. Really did. Y’wanna sit down n’ jus’ talk the day away? Hope yuh don’t mind me annoyin’ ya-- ‘cause now that yuh chose t’uh visit, yer stuck here... muahahaha! ” A halfhearted little evil laugh to boot, as he lifted his three-fingered hand to wiggle his fingers menacingly, “ Now I’ll summon GHOST HITLER on yer ass! Ooga-booga-boo, he can’t open doors! ”

Even in my dreams, I can’t catch a break. I dreamt that I had a thing for Joseph, which I mean…I do. Y’all have seen him 😍 but in my dream, I actually knew him. So we were at this party, and I know I had been trying to contact him or waiting for him to contact me. Because we had been kinda flirty off and on before. And I come to realize he’s been flirting with this other chick, who I felt like was prettier than me. So my I’m just gutted. Wesley was there…and he’s telling me he had no idea Joseph was with the girl, and not sure they’re an item but he was goin to talk to him. I’m like…don’t..it isn’t worth it. HE isn’t worth it. And I left the party. But not before I broke down and cried in the middle of the street like some teen movie.

In 2014, Bob Dylan released The Basement Tapes Complete as part of his official Bootleg Series. That was only appropriate, since the original Basement Tapes were among the most legendary bootlegs in music history. First officially released in 1975, The Basement Tapes is a Musicheads Essential Album.

The recordings that became known as The Basement Tapes were literally made...yes, in a basement. Specifically, the basement of "Big Pink": the upstate New York house made famous by the Band's 1968 debut album Music from Big Pink.

It was the previous year, 1967, that the Band convened in Woodstock to join Dylan, who was physically and mentally recuperating from a motorcycle accident that forced him to hit reset on his previously hectic career. In the bucolic Catskills, Dylan and the Band started jamming on covers and on a rapidly growing number of eclectic originals that were often written and arranged collaboratively.

The Band's Music from Big Pink grew out of those sessions, but the bulk of the Dylan recordings were shelved when he headed to Nashville to record the album John Wesley Harding. As other artists found success with their versions of "basement" songs like "You Ain't Goin' Nowhere" and "Quinn the Eskimo (The Mighty Quinn)," the original recordings started to circulate far and wide.

Finally, under the supervision of the Band's Robbie Robertson, The Basement Tapes were edited into a double disc that was officially released in 1975. Although fans have long quibbled about everything from the sound to the selection, the music's brilliance was immediately apparent: the New York Times called it "one of the greatest albums in the history of American popular music."

Today, The Basement Tapes are recognized as foundational to the genre now known as Americana. It's music that cuts across traditions from folk to country to rhythm and blues, written and performed with wit and integrity — not to mention virtuosity. As Dylan told Rolling Stone, "That's really the way to do a recording — in a peaceful, relaxed setting — in somebody's basement. With the windows open...and a dog lying on the floor."
