GENSHIN IMPACT | EVERLASTING MOONGLOW AWAKEN AND UNAWAKEN WEAPON [UI]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Lvl 90. Stats)
BASE ATK :697 HP 49.6% R1 Passive :
Byakuya Kougetsu: Healing Bonus increased by 10%, Normal Attack DMG is increased by 1% of the Max HP of the character equipping this weapon. For 12s after using an Elemental Burst, Normal Attacks that hit opponents will restore 0.6 Energy. (Energy can be restored this way once every 0.1s.)
"The "pearl and waves" emblem of the Sangonomiya is said to represent the waves that embrace Watatsumi, And the bright pearls that can be found there. But some also say that it shows the jeweled wheel of Watatsumi Omikami keeping eternal vigil over the land of coral like the moon.
In the dreams of the deep sea where sponges and coral dwell, in the depths where flowing clouds and ocean sands dance as one, Undying hope would pass from generation to generation of those descended from their god — they who dreamed the same dreams as Watatsumi. The colors of the skies are ever-changing, and the lights and shadows cast deep beneath the waves are of forms ill-defined... Thus did the brilliant compassion that the dark ocean could not conceal diffuse in tranquil bliss.
In those days, the first Divine Priestess once led her brethren with wisdom as precious as pearls, And she selected clergy from amongst the people newly introduced to the sun, who aided the offspring of their god in comforting those for whom the light of day brought terror. In latter days, the "Umigozen" who made the navies of Narukami tremble would sing whale-songs alongside them, And it was this symbol that they drew as they danced with the airborne kurage.
Some years later, a single bolt of lightning would reject the dream of the Watatsumi people. Into the storm slithered the serpent, the lightning's ruthless glow to surely face... But the children of the god and the shrine maidens, who had hearts of pearl, would not forget. Countless tales, gratitude unnumbered, and that ring of ocean gems would forever be passed down, And they would shine ever brighter and more beautifully for it.
Whether it be the histories of the jeweled branches being torn or the birth of precious pearls, Or the defeat of the wicked creatures in the depths to bring sunlight to the pale nation beneath the waves, Or how the young man who dreamed of standing atop Mt. Yougou came to have the name of an "evil king," and had his great duel against the tengu... All these would light up the hearts of the children of Watatsumi, like pearls from the heavens, like waves under the moon's glow. They will carry the pain of loss away into the churning, salty waters, storing them within radiant pearls. May the stories and sacrifices of the age of gods forever be handed down, along with this emblem of "pearl and waves."
Even if the storm clouds should gather, and even if the violet lightning's ferocity be perilous and unpredictable, The silver moon of Watatsumi shall still pierce through the clouds and scatter forth its light"

Techniques for using the “frying pan-spear” of the warrior Varisha.
Tumblr media
youtube
I also brought you my favorite VFX sketches of magic for Varisha!
As it turned out, it is very difficult to explain how her frying pan behaves in battle and how it “unfolds” from a shield into a weapon.
I also made you a speedpaint of how I sculpt such things!

it is so so so so sexy of the live action one piece production team to have such a dedication to practical effects and every time I see another behind the scenes video/pic I’m more astounded bc every time i find out something i wrote off as CGI, I’m proved wrong. the entire villages and boats and restaurants and sets they built from the ground up. the prosthetics to create the fishmen and the facial scarring and the hair. the costuming and detailed props and hand crafted weapons. even the stunts! the choreography! the massive jumps and ppl flying through the air were actors attached to harnesses and rope! vfx was of course used, but only to enhance already existing footage & add a lil razzle dazzle. it’s incredible

From the pale court team:
Pale Court Update!
Tumblr media
Hi Everyone,
We're here to talk about the development of Pale Court a bit and share our thoughts as we move into the new year.
First, we hope everyone has had an outstanding holiday season, filled with games, gifts, and gratifying victories in the world of Hollow Knight and beyond. The team has been enjoying the holidays and is now coming out of a break period and are back to work on the mod, particularly finishing up Isma, squashing pesky bugs, adding some VFX, and then transitioning to other bosses. It’s been a wild ride, and we’ve still got a lot to do, and we’re eager to get back into the swing of things and start grinding away again.
We would like to remind everyone that the mod is a passion project and, while we would like to get this into the hands of everyone, we do all have school and jobs to attend to. Rest assured we are hard at work and are putting our all into every detail that goes into the mod. As an example, we've had a Zemer attack that's been in for a couple years now but has gone through many different iterations and we just never landed on something that seemed right, whether it be the pattern or fairness to the player, or difficulty of the move. In these cases we'll shelf the move for a bit and move on to other things while we keep it in the back of our mind, but not forgotten.
Moving forward we want to reiterate that we're committed to putting this out and it's still an ongoing project. From attack design, animations, VFX, and character VO, we want to make sure we’re doing everything to the best of our ability for the player in mind. Additionally, the more the team has grown, the more we've had to build our workflow pipeline for playtests to directly give feedback in a concise manner to the software devs. We wanna thank everyone for sticking with us, so we’ve included a profile and little dev tidbit for the bosses, continue reading below, and we hope you all have a great day… Let’s share some bosses!
Isma
Tumblr media
Isma is a pretty cool character. When we meet her, she has no visible weapons, so we had to conjure up something completely from scratch. The obvious approach here would be to play off the plant theme and have plant-like attacks, and while this sets the identity of the character, it doesn’t set the identity of the fight itself. We ended up taking some inspiration from everyone’s favorite boss, The Collector. We wanted to look at the boss and see what the strengths and weaknesses were, and how to improve on it. We can see the boss itself tries to spawn mobs and overwhelm the player, but felt it doesn’t accomplish the goal of choking the player of comfortability and maneuverability, and we want to change that. We feel like we landed on a really good direction on that pretty early in development and from then on it’s been tuning and tuning and tuning. We feel through this process we’ve taken what can be an annoying, monotonous experience and turned it into a very interesting battle with spatial awareness, where you are forced to juggle many different aspects of a fight, or get choked out slowly in the battle. This boss has quickly risen the ranks and become a favorite among the playtesters, and we hope that you guys can enjoy it as much as we did!
Zemer
Tumblr media
Have you ever wondered how Zemer would wield such a HUGE nail and be as elegant as she is? This is what we wanted to do, and man did it quickly become a problem! Originally Zemer was her “normal size” and her base attacks took up half of the entire playfield. The quickest and easiest approach here was just to shrink her size, so we did, and this opened us up to a lot of fun things. With a smaller size this let us up her mobility through movement options. We also kept the idea of her having this huge nail as well, and in playtests, she felt more like a zoner but with a more physical approach, we expanded on it… a lot! She ended up being SO fun in development that we kept thinking up more and more moves for her, and she has probably the most moves of any boss fight in the game. When we started putting up the final touches on her moves we found playtesters were having a very tough time getting ahold of her, but when they did it felt very rewarding and enjoyable. She is a complete menace and we expect it to be the hardest boss and give people a lot of trouble, with a huge sense of satisfaction for those that put in the time and effort to master the fight.
Hegemol
Tumblr media
Your favorite thicc boi is back and better than ever - Hegemol has been a very interesting experience for us so far. Failed Champion / False Knight do a great job at physically restricting space, while we touched up about space restriction in Isma, you can think of her as an upward trend, the more time you don’t deal with her, the more choked you feel. Hegemol is the constant on the chart, his size will remain an ever present force in your face, and you’re going to have to deal with it the hard way. It was a challenge to really dial in what we wanted to do with Hegemo and, we can see why TC originally took a more basic approach in fear of not overwhelming the player with this monstrous body constantly trying to be on top of you, feeling like a wall closing in. We feel like we’re in a great direction now, and we want to capitalize on this feeling of dealing with an immovable object, as well as being an unstoppable force, while remaining a completely fair fight. We’re still early in development with Hegemol, but he’s already going to be an interesting case of seeing how players figure out how to cope with the constant pressure.
Dryya
Tumblr media
We’ve had some great fights in Hallownest, and our favorite flavor of fights are sword duels. Hollow Knight has a lot of them, but almost all have some special flavor thrown in there, and we don’t really have something with a more “vanilla” flavor to it. We lacked a fight in the mod that had a very methodical flow to it, almost like a lightsaber duel, or a waterbender with choreographed motions. Enter Dryya, she is our lovechild to a classic sword fight that we think Hollow Knight really needed. She’s fast, smooth, and brutal! Being a grounded sword wielder, she wants to constantly be up in your face and on the offensive. On the surface this seems pretty straightforward, but in reality we did have some problems where the knight could dash away or through her and it’s been fun to see how we are getting around that player behavior. We want Dryya to continuously try to engage with the player, and that means minimal time between attacks - she doesn’t want you to have any breathing time. If you’re willing to tango, you’ll enter a flow state and feel like you’re really having an authentic duel. We hope a more classical fight will have people coming around a lot for an engaging experience.

Kaiju Week in Review (January 14-20, 2024)
Tumblr media
Ultraman Blazar's finale aired on Friday. It was a solid capper to what's easily the best entry in the Ultra Series since I was an undergrad, full of heart and pyrotechnics. There were a few major loose ends—Captain Gento is better at keeping secrets than most hosts—which I'm hoping the movie, due in late February, will address. If you're looking for a place to start with the long-running franchise, it would be one of my first recommendations. Great effects, great cast, tons of new kaiju, and a blend of novelty (lots of focus on the tensions between the defense team and the larger monster-fighting organization; a host who's in charge of said defense team) and returning to form (Blazar yowls plenty but is an Ultra of few words; the power-ups and goofy weapons are kept to a minimum). And even if you don't want to commit to a whole show, episode 22, focusing on a hapless salesman of kaiju insurance, is a must-see for any fan of the genre. There seem to be no worlds left to conquer at Tsuburaya for lead director Kiyotaka Taguchi, so as I've been saying since around 2015: Toho, are you paying attention?
Tumblr media
Godzilla Minus One/Minus Color, the regraded black and white version of Godzilla Minus One, is coming to North American theaters for one week starting January 26. Toho's yanking both versions from theaters after February 1—puzzling considering that the film is likely going to be nominated for the Best Visual Effects Oscar tomorrow. Takashi Yamazaki led a Godzilla delegation to the Academy's visual effects "bakeoff", in which voters watch highlights from the ten shortlisted films and their VFX teams explain their work. IndieWire reports that Yamazaki's presentation drew the most applause, describing Minus One as the "potential frontrunner." The Hollywood Reporter likes its chances too. Nominations will be announced starting at 8:30 AM EST. The Creator seems to be its biggest competition.
Godzilla Minus One also recently cleared $50 million at the U.S. box office, in the process passing the first Demon Slayer as the highest-grossing Japanese-language film ever released in the U.S. Some outlets are reporting that it's the highest-grossing Japanese film ever released here, which isn't accurate; the English-dubbed Pokémon: The First Movie made almost $86 million back in 1999. (And I think it's plausible that something like Rodan or Godzilla vs. Megalon would be the champ if you figured out how much they grossed and adjusted for inflation.)
Tumblr media
Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong #4 brought Godzilla and Tiamat to Atlantis, forcing Aquaman to release the Kraken to defend his city. Incredibly, this is the third Kraken associated with the Monsterverse, after Na Kika (called Kraken when it was introduced in the King of the Monsters novelization) and the main antagonist of the Skull Island cartoon. I'm guessing it's going to have a shorter lifespan than either of them though.
In other Godzilla comic news, IDW will be putting out another intriguing one-shot in May, titled Godzilla: Mechagodzilla 50th Anniversary. Past comics from the publisher have included multiple Mechagodzilla models, but this one seems to be going above and beyond. Rich Douek is writing; Andrew Lee Griffith is illustrating. The logline:
For 50 years, the King of the Monsters, Godzilla, has gone toe to toe with its robotic doppelgänger, Mechagodzilla! As an intrepid reporter profiles the history of Mechagodzilla and its creator before the launch of the newest model, he finds himself entangled in a much deeper conspiracy. A decades-spanning adventure celebrating the mechanical monster's milestone!
Tumblr media
One of master kaiju illustrator Shinji Nishikawa's books will receive an English translation courtesy of Titan Books. Awkwardly titled Godzilla: The Encyclopedia of Godzilla, the Japanese edition included over 100 full-bodied illustrations of various Godzilla series kaiju and analyses of their designs (alongside plenty of Nishikawa's trademark chibis). I'm sold, suffice to say.
youtube
Ryo Momota, director of the short tokusatsu film Revive! Smile Rock Giant God, has put the whole thing on YouTube with English subtitles for your amusement. It posits that a real rock formation outside of Tamano City will come to life to help its citizens in their hour of need. Very low-budget.
Tumblr media
Kaiju Brooklyn is a one-day con that began filling a longtime void for East Coast kaiju fans last year. Here's the first major piece of news about their June 1 event: they'll be screening The Return of Godzilla outdoors at day's end. Consider me highly tempted.
Tumblr media
Kaiju United has a new, wide-ranging interview with Barry Goldberg, webmaster of the legendary Barry's Temple of Godzilla. That fan site was my first window into the wider world of Godzilla in the early 2000s, and it's only been updated a few times since, so I was pretty interested to read how its creator was doing. Don't get your hopes up for a revival: he's still a Godzilla fan (loved Minus One, Shin not so much), but has moved on to other things. Great insights from a Big Name Fan who stayed humble.

what if VI part 3 is just a weird fever dream flashback of all the reasons victim thinks he's right and his actions are completely justified
the first bit exactly explains how he survived his Flash file deleting, logically and clearly (clinically? detached from the emotion of the experience?), but the animation quality and/or style and tone are completely different to recent AvA, like something's missing, or this memory isn't all there anymore.
and think Meet the Pyro level of over-positivity in the beginning
leaning the ways of the city. snippets of how Rocket Corp. came to be, then built up over time.
maybe the mercs are victim's buddies like how orange has CG (credit for this idea to someone else.. ill find it... ghhgh it's a fanart post i think? i saw it so long ago.....(edit: so so sorry it's hopeless it's buried DEEP in my likes and i can't find it on vic or agent's tags- if someone else knows what it is that'd help ill link it later ANYWAY))?
most importantly, he learns that he's got charm and a knack for bringing other people together to do what he wants
interspersed with more and more doubts that are, at first, crushed into nothing - he'll never forget why he's doing this - but are getting louder in his ear
until the first test of the Box or a similar prototype of one of his worrying technologies: it goes bad.
unnamed worker 427 gets hurt in some horrifying way or whatever.
it's vic's call whether or not to continue.
this would be the first big step in the right direction, but is it... y'know... still the right direction?
vic realizes the little voice buzzing furiously in his ear all the time is too appalled to respond.
it's quiet for once.
huh. that's... nice.
they go ahead.
unreality of the vfx, editing, sound effects gets way worse from here. the colors are too strong or too washed out, there's tunnel vision vignettes hiding just enough detail from view to let you imagine what might be back there, and reports from hundreds of tests of various tech that you'd REALLY WANT TO GO 100% RIGHT with long sections redacted, and a thick sharpie lying next to the stack on vic's desk.
the only actually nice parts are like... slice of life of the nice parts of working in a big office building. setting up fun stuff to keep employee morale up (inspiration: RC company event shirts made by someone else lol) and such. but it's never too long before the work continues.
and things are going perfectly to plan.
...
whatever is left of the "voice" that was keeping him in check is now small and helpless
and he HATES IT FOR THAT
HE IS NOTHING LIKE (HE USED TO BE) THAT PATHETIC CREATURE
sometimes he practices fighting in his head with vicious fantasies of beating it down-
.
cough
uh,
anyway im curious about his perspective on all this
the description saying, "Anything goes, in The Box" on part 2 was SO CHILLING when i noticed it(!!!!!!), not to mention the contents of the ep itself- and id love a microscope pointed at his head, in a fic or somehow jammed into canon.
his favorite weapon is a WHIP guys?????
WHAT is going on in there

“There is no reason to have a practically functioning gun on a set,” Stahelski said. “To have a live round on a set is criminal. There isn’t a gun on our set that you could put a round into that it would be able to fire.” The subject is particularly close to Stahelski, who was the stunt double for Brandon Lee, who was killed by a gun discharge on the set of “The Crow” in 1993. Stahelski refrains from speaking specifically about Lee or what happened on “Rust” but says there’s an industry-wide problem. “Ninety percent of the weapons available to rent are practical firearms,” he said. “So you’re asking the industry to dump all their rentals and restock. Not that it shouldn’t happen.” Yet the “John Wick 4” production corralled dozens of stunt actors, hundreds of firearms and thousands of rounds of ammunition into 14 action sequences on four continents, all while creating a unified tone for a coherent narrative without anyone ever getting hurt by any of those guns. “The baseline is that we give a shit — more than anybody else,” said Stahelski with Wick-like bluntness.

Jawan again. Spoilers included.
I know I know. Got sick and all this useless scrolling through the tl is just adding more thoughts. Why do I have so much thought regarding a movie. I hate my brain sometimes.
So I think it's safe to say this movie won't win awards. Maybe for VFX or stuff like that. Again random acts keep winning stuff these days in India so who knows.
But I wanna talk about srk specifically. He was the main actor here even with plenty of characters having their own arc but you saw srk the actor shine through.
Now I'm no expert but his Vikram Rathore before memory loss, after memory loss and again regaining memory was absolutely perfect.
Because you see in first phase, he's this confident and brave man who loves his wife and has a band of soldiers that would die for each other. Come in second phase, right in the beginning, forget about medical accuracies, he has no memory but goes feral over the goons. And drops his weapons in confusion right after and asks who is he? I was sold right here actually. And we don't see him until the interval. He comes in with a goal, to save his son, a son he has no memory about but is he a man who avoids responsibility. No sir. He comes and straight up tells his son, that I don't really have feelings for you because you see convenient memory loss. But you don't hate him, neither does Azad.
Also he has acquired a different swag while in the village all these years. And you can't tell me that he's not high most of the time. Because he's sorta dazed always, and my theory is that he might have not recovered entirely, maybe there's just dreams or phantom pain that's way too painful for him and thus the constant cigar. Adds another swag entirely though.
So when he recovers his memory, you see the actor in his finest, the eyes, they do everything. Split seconds, and he remembers bit by bit. Imagine getting back memories of about 3-4 decades and it's tragic at best. The final nail, Aishwarya calling him, and he loses it. All that pain comes out in a raging howl. Oh boy. There, the movie actually ended there for me.
It's amazing how a secondary character played by the same actor can overshadow the main lead. I love looking at actors playing double roles honestly. It's fun trying to see when they'll break.

Someone recently claimed that the new Davies era of doctor who has no more wokism* than the show used to.
Now, maybe I've just changed in the past few decades, but from what I've heard of the 60th anniversary specials it does seem a tad more concentrated. Cherry-picking SPOILERS, sweeties.
- Donna got married offscreen. To what I can only assume is the last black cab driver in London.
Tumblr media
- Her kid is trans. Specifically, non-binary, female presenting, says the wiki.** - In the next episode, we learn the Doctor is gay/bi when he thinks Sir Isaac Newton is hot. I'd smugly say this bit has no real relevance, but...the actual scene does carry the episode theme of accidentally changing reality. It's just the queer bit that seems tacked on. Though it does carry forward themes from 10s era. - Sir Zack himself is played by a half-Indian actor. It's not exactly hard to tell. I'm assuming they're running on Bridgerton logic. https://twitter.com/frozenaesthetic/status/1731332492282429950 - This episode is basically just Donna and the Doc exploring a weird location, and running into monsters, who happen to look like them. It would be a bottle episode, except for the large vfx budget. And yet ol' Rusty somehow managed to awkwardly wedge in an  progressive issue. - In the next episode, the villain explains how he's just exploiting the divisions that already exist in human society, including cancel culture. - no wait he's got a point. Jpg - This is ironic, given that Davies and/or his broadcasting house masters are pretty blatantly on the team that a) coined the word,  b) cancels people the most often, and c) defends the idea of Internet lynch mobs*** (***as long as they're left wing. If not, they're *ist "trolls", even if they're just complaining about the latest sacred cow.) Maybe the Davies was criticizing his own team. * Because the Toymaker was kind of racist back in the day (white dude dressed like a stereotypical Chinese dude), Davies made the new version a bit racist "as a callback to his original, problematic depiction back in 1966." - TVtropes, ref. DW Unleashed. On the other hand, the Toymaker also mocks and dresses as several other cultural archetypes. All the ones I've seen were white European ones. He just does this to everyone, apparently. - Toymaker also weaponizes the Spice Girls hit "Spice Up Your Life". No, I will not explain. Though I will note that a line about the "Yellow man in Timbuktu" was apparently drowned out in the episode. Probably for being a tad spicy. - One new UNIT character is a lady in a wheelchair. When the new Tardis - no, I will not explain - has a wheelchair ramp, she happily points it out. Which makes me wonder why the blue box would be so limited, considering it often deals with alien species. - Also, the same actress played a disabled Companion in the Big Finish audio dramas. I'm not sure why it was considered essential to do so in an entirely audio format, but there have been controversies over this sort of thing before (EG Artie on Glee, various racial voice acting controversies). - At this point, casting Ncuti Gatwa as 15 doesn't even register. Not really a blip on my radar. Black Doc? Whatevs. His sonic screwdriver has Rwandan words on it? So? I go to church with lots of Africans. Heck, I'm a black immigrant to ol' Blighty myself, just from the other side of the pond. Ncuti is, chronologically speaking, more British than I am. - Though given that he's Rwandan-Scottish, there may be some debate on the "British" part. - Wikipedia says the actor is pretty left-wing, but the actor seems good so far, so I'm willing to give him a sha-
Tumblr media
Oh, come ON!
Maybe the original person speaking was comparing it to the Chibnall “history has always been a whitewash” era, which had a character who was a paper thin Trump satire. A tad ironic, when the whole point of bringing Davies, Tennant, and Tate back is to play on nostalgia.
*Tangent: that word was apparently voted  the most annoying words in English. Which is kind of hilarious if you know that it was originally created to self-describe certain progressives. And the "you can't even define that word!" meme was almost certainly ripped off from the right wing "what is a woman?" Meme. ** This is apparently because she's part Time Lord, through Donna. It seems a tad interesting to me that a few works featuring non binary characters happen to make them enby due to some sort of supernatural (Omniscient Reader) or sci-fi (SW Squadrons) influence which the vast majority of IRL enbies don't have. ...As far as I know.

regarding your latest bg3 text post about mods: I feel you! Would you mind sharing the gameplay mods? I really wanna try as well :)
i'd be happy to! gotta put some disclaimers though:
i don't personally care about "game balance" on repeat playthroughs, so a lot of this stuff might seem OP, especially all put together lol. some of these mod authors suggest mods that increase difficulty for balance.
i can't guarantee that all these mods will work together safely, flawlessy, or effectively. this isn't a mod list, i'm just sharing mods i've personally been enjoying.
be thorough if you install them-- read description pages, check for compatibility patches, etc. there are a few key requirements for using multiple race or class mods at once, such as community library, compatibilty framework, and patches for cc.
all that being said, here's what i'm having fun playing with!
RACES: astralities' tieflings / aasimar / goblins / dhampir
CLASSES: cleric subclasses / harlequin / syrchalis' druid mods / drakewarden ranger subclass / blood wizard subclass / college of spirits bard subclass / arcane archer fighter subclass
LEVELING: unlock level curve
UI/QoL: improved ui / better hotbar 2 / better containers / better party panels / better maps / better dyeing / better widgets / better hints / better inventory / better trade menu / faster rolls / no intro / no press any key menu / WASD movement / camera tweaks
WEAPONS/ACC: orochigago's weapons and wonders / shivero's legendary equipment / elven weaponry shortbows, longbows, blades, wands / eldertide armaments / bags bags bags reforged
SPELLS: 5e spells / syrchalis' rebalance series (i pick and choose) / chromatic spells
FEATS: plus feats / feats extra / rebalance feats
FX: vlad's grimoire / shivero vfx library
CHEATS: faerun utility / unlimited dyeing / ultimate cheat spells / no insp cap / tutorial exit / carry weight extra
reminding you once again to seek out compatibility patches, read mod descriptions, and be mindful of your load order.
