So I started to type a response to THIS post, and then I decided to make my own because I lost the plot a little bit. BUT I’m not quite ready to give up my soapbox, SO: 

I can’t get this out of my mind. Because it’s the same everywhere. Writer strike. Actor almost-strike. Artists on Twitter. Crunch culture in game studios. Music has been fighting this for ages. 

THIS IS WHAT THEY WANT TO USE AI TO REPLACE.

They have determined that even the crumbs they pay us that are hardly enough to live on is STILL too rich for their blood. And you wonder why we fight.

One day everyone is going to wake up and all the artists are going to be working minimum wage jobs because they have to eat somehow, meanwhile society will be infinitely poorer because everything you use to give yourself joy from slaving away at your OWN minimum wage job (fanart, romance novels, TV shows) is now made by a computer who does not have, indeed cannot have, artistic vision. You will be fed a slurry of the art that WE made, stolen and repackaged and resold.

This is why we’re sounding warning klaxons. This is why we don’t see the amusement in playing around with chat GPT. Everything that gets fed to the AI means less food for creatives. You think the vultures at the top will hesitate for a single solitary second if they see a way that makes more profit for them? They don’t care about art.

Listen to creatives. Support them. AI has a future but not under capitalism.

If we discovered a secret core on the moon made of oil, no government on the planet would stop companies from going up there and stealing all the uber-rare moon juice.

Two days after work on the NewMoon oil field was complete, the best of earth's scientists would release a detailed paper explaining how this will explode the moon and put up a website counting down until the day the moon explodes, and the news would be a debate on how space jobs can expand the economy and help the middle class and How You Can Reduce Your Oil Use to Save the Moon!

And as we got closer to #Moongate the moon would start rumbling and bits of it would start crashing into the earth and people would write thinkpieces about how international commerce can adapt without tides, and articles about how to build #Moongate survival bunkers, and poems about the moon watching humans through history and children who will never know the moon.

Nothing would be done. The counter would hit zero. The moon would explode. The planet would be buffeted by debris for days and the smoke would cause another Year Without A Summer and human lives would be lost and thousands of species would go extinct. Anyone who tried to take real action to save the moon would be arrested or shot.

We would lose our moon. For profit.

a lot of thievery from grocery stores has been documented lately, however at the same time grocery store profits are at an all time high.

nobody is talking about how these two are connected, why are people stealing from stores? something that could get them in jail, get them fired, potentially lose friends/their partner if they have one, keep them from getting jobs in the future just so they can eat, so their families can eat?!

people are stealing because it costs so much to get a meal these days, on top of living expenses. its becoming the only option, the only thing they can do besides starve. its literally the only option unless they wanna fucking die??? get sick??

its insane how basic necessities, not just food but water shelter medication ect is so expensive that most people cant afford it.

this is an actual nightmare if something doesnt happen soon i think society is gonna be like permanently fucked

Don't tell your doctor it's a work place injury!

So this is something I learned today! If you are injured at work? And you go to see your doctor? DO NOT tell them it's a work place injury if you aren't getting worker's comp for it.

It doesn't matter if you have your own insurance. They will NOT see you.

If you are injured at work your boss decides if you are allowed to see a doctor at all.

I fell last night and got kinda banged up. Got told by my supervisor not to even bother to try for workers comp. "There's a section in the the employee manual about how not to fall. So they'll fight you tooth and nail if you fall." So I can't get comp for it. And I was like "I have my own insurance I don't need your damn comp." So I called my doctor, told them what happened, and they refuse to see me if I don't have comp.

I am ok. My big toe was pretty bad, but it's better than it was this morning, so it's not broken. If it was worse I'd be SO FUCKED!
