Jonathan Bailey and Matt Bomer's Interview with The Hollywood Reporter (2023)
Tumblr media
“Johnny B! Johnny B!” Matt Bomer exclaims as he logs in to Zoom to join his Fellow Travelers co-star, Jonathan Bailey, to do press for their critically acclaimed Showtime limited series.
“Hey, Matty Mo,” Bailey replies.
The actors spent about six months filming the eight-episode series — so, of course, they’ve established a playful bond. On this particular day, they’ve even given each other nicknames.
“I don’t think I’ve ever called Matt ‘Matty Mo’ in my life,” a smiling Bailey says.
“I love Matty Mo,” Bomer replies. “Listen, I love Matty Mo. I appreciate it.”
Bomer and Bailey built a brotherhood and onscreen chemistry for the historical romantic drama about two male political staffers who fall in love at the height of the Lavender Scare, a time when homosexuals were banned from holding positions in the federal government. The series — based on Thomas Mallon’s 2007 novel of the same name — follows their intense affair into the ’80s, also visiting Vietnam War protests and the AIDS crisis.
Zoom, it turns out, is where the actors first met, reading lines together to see if there was magic. And there was.
Since debuting in late October, Fellow Travelers has had an overwhelming response from viewers — some connecting directly with Bomer’s Hawkins Fuller, a veteran and State Department official who carefully hides his homosexuality, or with Bailey’s Tim Laughlin, an eager and naive congressional staffer who falls hard for Hawk. Others have identified with some of the supporting cast, including Allison Williams in the role of Hawk’s wife, Lucy Smith, and breakout stars Jelani Alladin as reporter Marcus Hooks and Noah J. Ricketts as drag performer Frankie Hines, whose gay Black love story is one of the show’s many highlights.
“It’s so nice to be able to have discourse with people who are responding to the show. That’s been really refreshing and enlightening,” says Bomer, who is also an executive producer on the series.
Bailey, best known for Bridgerton and his theater work, says he was drawn to the show because “it felt new and it hadn’t been done in this way — in an elevated, eight-hour, rich aesthetic with gay actors.
“The queer experience is so different for so many people,” he adds, “but the one thing that unites the queer experience is these moments in history.”
In an interview with THR, Bomer and Bailey talk about prepping for their roles and being gay while playing gay, while also breaking down those milk and toe-sucking scenes.
What has it been like to have people connect emotionally to the series?
MATT BOMER: I won’t name names or anything, but I’ve known people over the years who’ve made similar choices that Hawk made in order to survive. Not governmentally — I mean in a society that certainly didn’t want to see them succeed. But for me, the most refreshing thing has been the young people who are really engaged in the show and knew nothing about the Lavender Scare, and are speaking to the show and the characters, but also, aspects of our history that they were unaware of that the show has — I don’t want to say taught them about, because it’s not a teaching tool — but they’ve learned about through the show.
JONATHAN BAILEY: When people respond in that way and you hear their personal stories, it’s amazing that people feel that they want to share that. It’s the most grounding thing to tell a story and investigate a time or a period or a movement, that hopefully leaves an imprint on people, and/or catalyzes them to tell people and talk about their own stuff. That’s the dream, really.
Jonathan, it’s so heartbreaking to watch Tim hurting in various scenes. What were you pulling from to give such a strong emotional performance?
BAILEY: Thirty-five years on this earth. (Laughs.) Drawing it from the ground. Naturally, it’s totally parts of me and parts of people that I know, experiences that you think of. Tim’s character arc is so huge, and [I wanted] to capture his youth in those early moments and then expand into what breaks such a pure, optimistic, passionate soul and all the different ways in which that could show itself. There were moments on set that you couldn’t help but be incredibly moved by.
We found ourselves filming by coincidence on World Aids Day. It is really not hard to feel the importance, but also just the grief is palpable in the stories. And there is a lineage — you inherit this in your community. It just felt like an opportunity to learn as much as I possibly could, generally, about the queer experience. We are surrounded by amazing gay men, as well. And then, of course, I’ve lived my life trying to understand the gay experience, so it wasn’t a shallow pool to [pull from].There’s a well there.
Matt, your character is so cutthroat, but obviously there’s sympathy for him, as well. What was it like playing Hawk?
BOMER: Hawk does what he has to do to survive. He has his empathy and his allegiances, but anything that calls his survival into question, there are immediate and severe boundaries. But then enters Tim, who is so guileless and so full of love and all the things that Hawk wishes he could be at his core, or maybe once was before certain aspects of his life changed that or his point of view about that. You’re always looking for a shadow in your character, and it was so refreshing — he obviously has a public persona, a veneer that he presents to the world in order to maneuver in it, but he really leads with a lot of the more shadowy aspects of a typical character. It’s the love and the more open and vulnerable aspects that are his shadow in many ways. That was an interesting flip for me to get to sink my teeth into.
It’s profound to have two gay actors playing two gay characters on a TV show. Did you ever think something like this could exist?
BOMER: Honestly, no. My mind has been blown so many times over the past 20 years. I’m just so grateful that the gatekeepers gave us this opportunity. I was doubtful, almost up to the 25th hour on this, that they were really going to put the money and the opportunity into this series that they did. And I’m just so grateful that people who are in the position of calling the shots gave us the chance to tell the story — and the way we needed to.
BAILEY: It’s the Tims of the industry, who are searching for more, who are deconstructing, who are questioning. Because they’re all a similar peer group — [series creator] Ron [Nyswaner] knows Dante [Di Loreto, executive producer of Glee and P-Valley], who’s at Fremantle [which produced the show], and they’ve worked together for years. This isn’t something that just got commissioned overnight, because there’s a wave of progress. The people who are really doing it, as well as the actors, are the people in positions of power who have worked their way up with these questions.
And it’s funny, the one thing I have thought over the years is — I’ve just looked at gay characters, they’re such rich, brilliant, oppressed, complicated, joyous characters to play, so of course people want to play them. And this is a brilliant example of: What better way to do a character study of two polar-opposite gay characters than have gay people play them? But that’s what I felt growing up. I just thought, “Of course people want to play those parts,” which is great. It’s just, what happens if, just for a moment, gay people play them?
And I do think that everyone can play everything, and that’s what we should be headed toward. But I do think there’s a balance that needs, and needed, addressing. And there are a lot of people whose questioning and hard work have created a world in which this can fly.
BOMER: I agree with you wholeheartedly. And it is the Tims of the industry or maybe some Hawks, too, hoping for retribution.
BAILEY: That’s true. We stand on the shoulders of all the Hawks, as well.
BOMER: (Laughs.)
BAILEY: [The Hawks] did all the work at MGM, yes. (Laughs.)
Jonathan, your character drinking milk in the series got a lot of attention.
BAILEY: It was a brilliant way of showing such naiveté, and immediately you know that this is a character who’s completely outside the world Hawk inhabits, and he sees the world completely differently. He’s so open. It’s so interesting, isn’t it? Because, it’s funny that Tim leads with his heart and his openness and his childlike wonder, and his shadows are his compulsive nature of constantly needing something that he can’t fill. There’s a moment in episode six — they’re in Frankie’s flat, and I was like, “He’s got to be drinking milk.”
BOMER: There was a power shift in episode eight, too.
BAILEY: Exactly. The milk was on the call sheet. It’s a character in its own right. And also the milk’s character arc is more dramatic than everyone else. Give it a spinoff, I say. (Laughs.)
There was also that toe-sucking scene. Jonathan, did you get the script and it said “suck toe”?
BOMER: Just “suck toe.” (Laughs.)
BAILEY: It was very, very precisely written down — it was as precise as it needed to be. I saw that as an incredible way to dissect power. I got it when I read it, and I wasn’t intimidated by it. I was just like, “If in the first episode that’s what we are doing, it’s going to be worth five months moving to Toronto, and it’s going to be a series that I would want to watch.” Because not only is it incredibly complicated, not only is it really hot, it’s also something that masks as being provocative, but actually it’s really psychologically impactful and the people who get it get it.
BOMER: I think all those scenes were a really external representation of what was going on with these characters internally, emotionally. And for me, it was really refreshing to see the gay love scenes brought to light in a really unflinching way.
BAILEY: The shock and overwhelm and the tantalizing chemical combustion that happens seeing it — it’s a greater sensory experience because that’s exactly what it meant for Tim in that moment. It captures exactly what’s going on for Hawk and Tim, hopefully, allowing the viewer to experience a bodily reaction to it in the same way, whatever that may be.

The Eras Tour on the big screen — it’s giving movie, cinematography, magical, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show-stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before.
From start to finish Taylor does what she does best: captivate the entire room with her never ending star quality. Seeing the entire show from all the angles in HD gives me a new appreciation for the cultural phenomenon that is the Eras Tour. The scale and promotion of this film starts to really click when you’re finally watching it. The turnout will be massive and the records will be broken and the movie theaters have gone all out for Taylor because she’s singlehandedly bringing in so much revenue for them, but also solidifying herself once again as a true businesswoman.
When I said I hoped no one got up to dance and sing around me I was wrong. Everyone remained in their seats until you belong with me and love story came on… believe or not that’s what did it for them. Girls from 5 to 15 hurried down to the front of the theater in excitement where they would remain and be joined by others throughout the show until the end.
Most of the crowd screamed every word (especially the lyrics you’re supposed to scream) from our seats and that really did make it so fun. The phone lights came out for Marjorie, and when reputation (and 1989) came on everyone went feral. It made me giggle to see kids yelling “oh lord save me my drug is my baby” with their whole chest. Vigilante Shit close up was an experience and was rightly appreciated with very descriptive expletives by the crowd.
The vibes really were amazing. It was so cute to see and feel how excited everyone was! So if you’re thinking about going or hesitant because you “want to watch in peace” (shading myself) do yourself a favor and go. You deserve a night of pure joy! And thank you Taylor for giving that to us every night on tour. You’re a once in a lifetime artist and woman 🤍

JOYRIDE - ELI HALE
Bestfriend!Eli x McCall!Reader
Summary: Eli had convinced you to go on yet another unlawful joyride in that stupid Jeep
Warnings: none
You sat there, going back and forth with your best friend.
“No way, my dad would kill me if I helped you heist this Jeep again.”
“C’mon, it’ll be fun. We can go to the drive in and then return by the time my dad even realizes it’s gone.” Eli pleaded.
He was good at convincing you to steal that piece of crap Jeep. But you’ve been well introduced to the consequences of doing illegal things with Eli.
The last time you stole that Jeep, your dad grounded you for three weeks.
You wanted to go with him, anytime spent with Eli was a good time. But you had formal in a few weeks and if you were grounded again, you would not be able to attend. More importantly, you hoped Eli would ask you.
“They always know, Eli.” You rolled your eyes, throwing your backpack down at the desk in the office of the auto shop.
“They’re out right now, too busy solving magic mysteries. Let’s do it.” His lips tipped up in a smile.
Eli was right. Scott McCall and Derek Hale were out with the rest of their friends, trying to solve Beacon Hill’s most recent suspicious murder.
You stared at him for a few beats, weighing your options. When you finally gave in, Eli pumped his fists.
He threw his own backpack down next to yours and led you out to the parking lot where the blue Jeep sat, awaiting you two.
As Eli wired the car up, your eyes wandered cautiously around the lot, watching for either of your fathers coming your way.
It was almost night fall, with just enough light to see Eli’s proud smile when the Jeep started.
The long road straight out to the huge vacant lot that was bought out to be created into the drive in movie theater was the only way to get there, so that’s the way Eli was driving now.
His favorite artist was Mac Miller, blasting it on the old radio as the wind from the night blew through your hair.
When you peaked over at your best friend, you found him already staring at you.
Thankfully, the hair blowing in your face covered your blush.
“Eli, look at the road.” You grabbed onto his face and pushed it forward, earning a laugh from him.
“Sorry, just-” He snuck one more look at you, but didn’t finish his sentence. You rode in silence the rest of the way.
The only movie playing at the theater was some old black and white film. You didn’t mind, but it didn’t stop Eli from telling the ticket office he wished he was seeing 21 Jump Street.
When he parked, he hopped out of the car and came over to open your door.
You blushed again, thanking the brunette boy as you walked beside him towards a few food trucks.
Eli bought you popcorn and even let you dump the m&m’s into the bucket, even though he didn’t like it.
You were halfway through the movie, barely even watching it because Eli was making you laugh so hard, when there was a knock on his window.
You turned to face your God-father Derek, nearly coughing up the mouth full of popcorn you had just swallowed.
Your door opened, your own father on the other side of it.
“Hey, kids.” Derek said, a look of pure annoyance painting his features.
“Shit.” Eli swore under his breath, giving you an apologetic look.
You sat on your bed, your new three week grounding hanging over your head.
As a werewolf, you should have known your fathers were going to be able to sniff you two out after finding your backpacks at the auto shop and no Jeep.
Your dad had gave you another three weeks, wondering if that was really going to teach you a lesson or just make his already strange relationship with his daughter worse.
Your laptop was propped up on a pillow, watching some series you had recently picked up.
Your phone was blowing up from a group chat you and your friends had made for formal. When you told them the news of not being able to go, they went crazy.
The knock on your window startled you, pausing your show and creeping over to it.
Eli’s hair was covering his face, looking down at his phone in his hands. You opened the window, coming face to face with him.
“What are you doing? My parents are downstairs!” You whispered. It wouldn’t help you much, your fathers hearing could pick you up from miles away.
“I know, I just need a minute.” He says as he’s throwing himself through your window.
You gave him bug eyes, heading towards the door to lock it before your father could get there first.
“I gotta talk to you, so just listen for like five and a half minutes.” Eli said, sighing as he ran his hand through his hair.
“Quick, seriously.” You shot at him, watching him sit on your bed.
He stared at you, his body perfectly in line with yours. You were flush against the door, listening into your parents talking downstairs.
Your father had taught you how to touch into your senses long before you were in high school. Eli was different though, he couldn’t even look at his claws without passing out.
You came in handy when Eli was trying to do something against his fathers wishes.
“Okay, ready. So tonight I was gonna take you out and be super gentleman-y and at the end of the night tell you I liked you and ask you to the formal but my stupid dad had to get in the way, even though I told him I was gonna do it tonight. I’m pretty sure they just did this to embarrass me.” Eli confessed in one breath.
His eyes were shooting around the room, his hands falling at his lap.
“What?” Was your first word. Your first thought was ‘finally’ but you were not about to let that slip.
“I like you, a lot.” He says, standing up and taking one step toward you.
You just stared at him. You weren’t completely sure if you were hearing him right.
“I like you too.” You smiled. He stood up from your bed and got rid of the distance between you two.
His lips formed around yours and his hands flew up to your cheeks.
You expected your first kiss with Eli, if it ever came, to be less romantic and less planned. Eli was very go with the flow, it surprised you when he said he had a whole night planned out.
When he pulled away from you, he smiled, his forehead coming up to touch yours. “So you’ll go to formal with me?”
“Yea, fine.” You smiled, pulling away from him. He pulled you back in for another kiss.
You stayed like that, kissing and back against the door until your mother came up to say goodnight, finding you and Eli.
You got another week added to your sentence, but we’re able to go to formal. You didn’t care about the extra week. You we’re able to go to formal. With Eli.

i've been rotating the "this doesn't make any sense!" response to boy and the heron in my head and i wonder how much of it comes down to like...the kind of audience that engages with ghibli movies vs the kind of audience that mostly only engages with weird art movies vs the kind of audience that only really engages with blockbusters and marvel movies, and the overlap of those groups in the theater.
because, like, the boy and the heron is far and away more straightforward, from a plot perspective, than a lot of other Weird Extremely Personal Art Movies i've seen and love, but it IS a Weird Extremely Personal Art Movie even so. usually the only people seeing Weird Extremely Personal Art Movies, especially in theaters, are people who like that and expect that and have seen those types of films before and are therefore capable of engaging with them even when things aren't as clear as they'd be in an average blockbuster flick. like, nobody who only cares about Cinema to the extent of marvel movies and MAYBE john wick is going to see beau is afraid, and if they did they wouldn't have the tools to engage with such a dream-logicy movie. it would just be a weird thing that doesnt make sense to them, at least until they worked their media engagement muscles with other weird films. there's a lot of self-selection to the kind of person who usually sees these kind of movies.
while boy and the heron is weirder and more complex than a lot of other ghibli movies, as far as weird art films go it is incredibly, INCREDIBLY straightfoward. every weird plot point is explained very clearly to the audience, very little is up for interpretation from a strictly "what was the plot" point of view. boy loses mother. father remarries and moves the family. boy struggles to contend with grief. boy is pulled into a magical world by an old man who wants to use him. time is weird and fucked up in the magical world, but the movie is going to go out of it's way to highlight who's who and make it clear how the time travel works and the characters' relations to one another. the boy refuses to take over the magical world because he wants to live in the real world with the real people he loves. boy leaves the magical world having learned an important lesson about moving on. but the boy and the heron trusts its audience, doesn't handhold, and expects the audience to engage seriously and with focus to its plot and characters and stories.
a lot of people never watch movies like that! a lot of people are used to uncomplicated superhero movies and romcoms and that's it. the difference is that those people were never going to see beau is afraid, so the discussion about that movie instead comes from people who have the tools to engage with it. but because of the aesthetic-ification of ghibli, a lot of people who don't Do art films but are really into the aesthetics of cute little guys and girls in pretty dresses went to this art film and were confused that it was weird and dream-like and dark and strange and requires more of its audience than just passively watching.
anyway there's nothing wrong with not having the muscles to engage with weird art films, though i do think everyone should challenge themselves with the kind of stuff they watch. there's nothing wrong with preferring simple straightforward uncomplicated plotlines. but it is really interesting seeing people talk about the movie like it's insanely weird and doesnt make any sense meanwhile me and the friends i've chatted with about who DO have experience with this kind of film all feel insane because the movie is SO clear and SO straightforward by the standards we're used to. its just a neat crossover re: the kinds of movie fans that exist

Timeless
Request: I was hoping to request like a super fluffy fic like established relationship, super domestic and just fluffy. Maybe watching a new horror movie or something. I don’t mind who but i’m partial to Remus, Sirius and Theo Nott
Hi! I hope this makes your day a little better, I tried making this pretty fluffy. I’m happy to write you something else if this isn’t what you were looking for, but hopefully you like this! I hope you have a good day, and thank you for the request :)
(Warnings: none? let me know if i missed anything)
Sirius had always loved the simple things.
He had grown up around magic all his life. As he got older, he realized just how much he relied on it. But he also knew just how much it had hurt him over the years, often being way more trouble than it was worth. When he met you, you were like a breath of fresh air. He loved how differently you had grown up compared to him. When you graduated from Hogwarts, you moved into a flat together on the outskirts of London.
It was a community far enough from the city that you could safely still use your magic without being seen, but you also didn’t have to rely on it. Anything you needed wasn’t hard to get—all you had to do was take a short walk into town. It took Sirius some getting used to, but he eventually fell in love with your little home away from the life he had always known.
He relished in the domesticity and simplicity of the life you had together, and it eventually felt natural to him.
One of his favorite muggle inventions you showed him was the TV. He sat on the couch for nearly a week after you moved in, cycling through all the movies and shows you had mentioned to him over the years. He also loved the movie theater, and it became a staple on your date nights in town. When you were too lazy to go out and do something, but you still wanted to spend time together, you’d have a movie night. Sirius would go around the corner to the little diner run by a sweet old couple and pick up food for you to eat while you watched your movie.
It was your night to pick the movie this time, and Sirius came in the door just as you had put it on.
“Etta and George say hello,” Sirius said, tossing his keys on the counter before placing the food on the coffee table, taking a seat next to you. “And Etta wanted me to tell you that she thought you looked really pretty last week when we came by the diner.”
You could feel your heart warm as you leaned into his side. “That’s so sweet.”
“So, what are we watching?” He asked as he wrapped an arm around your shoulders, settling into the couch.
“It’s called Halloween. Remus knew I've been wanting to watch it, so he came by earlier and let me borrow his copy—remind me to bring it back to him sometime by the way. Anyway, it’s supposed to be pretty scary. Is that alright with you?”
“Think I can’t handle it, darling?” Sirius asked, a grin on his face. “You don’t think I’m brave?”
You chuckled, shaking your head. “I think you’re very brave. I also think you’re very prone to screaming like a child when something surprises you. Remember when James was over last week and you didn’t know he was here? You nearly jumped out of your skin when he came out of the bathroom.”
“I just wasn’t prepared for another man to be in my flat, let alone waltzing out of my bathroom like he owns it. You can understand my surprise, darling. It wouldn’t have happened under any other circumstances.”
“I see,” you mused, pressing play as you turned your attention to the TV. “So, you aren’t gonna be hiding your face in my arm by the end of the film?”
Sirius smirked, shaking his head at your teasing. “I think I’ll make it without resorting to that. But thanks for the vote of confidence.”
“My pleasure.”
Sirius barely made it twenty minutes in before he was already shifting uncomfortably next to you, a grimace on his face. You hid your smirk behind your sleeve, keeping your eyes on the screen.
“I’m gonna kick Moony’s ass,” he muttered under his breath, so quiet you could barely hear him. “Masochistic bastard.”
“Want me to turn it off?” You asked, reaching for his hand.
Sirius gladly accepted, squeezing your hand tight. He just shook his head, continuing to watch the movie. At every intense scene or flashes of gore, you could feel him squeezing your hand tighter. By the time you made it halfway in, you couldn’t feel your fingers. When the movie was finally over, he let out a sigh of relief. He relaxed into the couch, his grip on your hand easing.
“Never again,” he said as he turned to face you. “We’re watching Grease next time. I don’t have to worry about my heart bursting out of my chest watching Grease.”
You chuckled, running your hand up and down his forearm. “You made it, though. And you didn’t cry, not even once.”
“Very funny,” he pouted, but he made no move to pull his arm away from your touch.
“I’m just teasing,” you smiled, leaning into his side. “I’m proud of you. You watched the whole thing, even though you weren’t enjoying it. It was very brave. Thank you for indulging me.”
“Thank you for letting me nearly break your hand. Are you alright, by the way? I didn’t mean to squeeze that hard.”
You chuckled, nodding. “It’s fine, love. It doesn’t even hurt.”
You talked as you finished your food, a random shitty soap opera playing on the TV in the background. It was one you both pretended not to be interested in, even though you both secretly had become quite invested in the plot more than a few episodes ago.
“How long do you think Etta and George have been together?” Sirius asked, finishing what was left of his fries.
“I don’t know,” you shrugged, leaning over to steal a fry. “The diner has been there since I was a kid. There used to be a little record store on the corner, and I’d always pass the diner on my way. They’ve been together for quite a long time, I think.”
“Do you ever wonder what we’re gonna be like when we’re their age?”
You smiled, nodding. “Sometimes. Hopefully we’re still in love, and not sick of each other. That would be a shame—you’re too pretty for frown lines.”
You couldn’t help but laugh, and Sirius let out a chuckle. He playfully nudged his elbow into your side, feigning offense. Suddenly, he yawned, reaching a hand up to rub at tired eyes.
“Sleepy, love?” You asked, motioning for him to lay down.
Sirius pivoted to swing his legs over the arm of the couch, resting his head in your lap. You ran your fingers through his hair, leaning down to press a kiss to his forehead.
“I wouldn’t mind ending up like Etta and George. Running their business, still together and in love. That’s years and years of happiness. We could have that. Our little flat and our diner on the corner. It's simple. Peaceful. I could get used to it—couldn’t you?
Sirius smiled, nodding. “Yeah…yeah, I could.”
It was quiet for a moment as you continued running your fingers through his hair, brushing it away from his forehead. Sirius kept his eyes closed, a content smile on his face. A warmth spread through your chest as he nuzzled his head into your lap, his cheek pressed against your thigh.
“I bet Etta doesn’t make George watch scary movies,” Sirius said unexpectedly, pulling you from your thoughts.
You rolled your eyes, trying and failing to fight a grin. “I bet Etta has never heard George scream like a little girl.”
“Fair play, darling. Fair play.”
A/N - Hi! Thank you again for the request, I hope you liked this :)

Looking Back At February 6 2024 ♪〜Movie, Dresses And Shoulder Bones〜
The other day, I went to see the movie "Golden Kamuy" with a friend 😊I received a special git at the cinema! A panel drawn by the original creator\\\\٩( 'ω' )و //// I was so happy because I didn't expect to get something like this! 😍 The girl I went with is a big fan of the original work, actually, she is such a hardcore fan that she and her husband have even gone on a proper pilgrimage to Abashiri which is a place from the manga. I also enjoyed the manga so I decided to go and watch the film with her! The visuals were so powerful and the music was so wonderful that (despite the fairly fantasy-like setting) I felt a strange sense of reality that made me cry many times... It was the first time I watched a movie at the cinema since ``The Boy and the Heron'', I had a lot of fun! 😆 (By the way, the girl who went with me was the same friend who went with me when I watched “The Boy and the Heron” for the second time♪) Being at the movie theater for the first time in a long while got me really excited, initially, I only wanted to get some oolong tea at the snack bar but then, I ended up with all of this😂 How did this happen? When I looked at the menu, I got really excited 🤣I got a large popcorn and a hot dog *laughs*
Hello, this is Wakana (0 ̄▽ ̄0)/
I couldn't finish the giant popcorn and had to take it home *laughs* I quietly stuffed my mouth with the hot dog before the film had even begun🤤 Even though I had told myself that it would be better to wait until the film was over to avoid getting tired...🥺 Such a fickle nature🥺(Thankfully the movie was so interesting that I didn't feel sleepy at any point)
Now, I would like to talk a little about my “Wakana 5th Anniversary “Prologue” ~Premium Online Live~” which was held on February 6th! Here I am together with Saku-chan who joined me on the piano 😊We also made sure to take a picture where we look a bit cool📸 With this premium online live I celebrated a milestone, the 5th anniversary of my solo debut. I wanted to start my celebrations together with everyone from my fan club! For some reason, those five years actually feel like a longer time... or rather, it feels like a lot more years have passed already. I included the entire “journey” from my solo debut up until now in the setlist!
M-01 Yureru Haru M-02 Tsubasa MC M-03 Ai no Hana M-04 Aki no Sakura (Acoustic ver.) MC M-05 Orange MC M-06 Haru wo Matsu (Kalafina) M-07 Shirushi MC M-08 Kinmokusei M-09 Flag MC M-10 magic moment MC M-11 Sono Saki e
There are songs from my 1st album "Wakana", my 2nd album "magic moment", my EP "Aki no Sakura" and my 3rd album "Sono Saki e"! I ended up cramming in as much as possible since I wanted to create a setlist that would allow me to look back on the past 5 years.😊 During my MCs I tried to express my feelings from each period, hopefully I was able to share some fresh thoughts with you.
I once again realized that the "chat" may be the best part of an online live performances! At live performances with an actual on-site audience it's not really possible to have a real conversation, but online, everyone can talk about all sorts of things. Of course, even if there are no words exchanged between us, I know that people are watching and supporting me but I always feel very relieved when people say a lot of things in the chat (*´- `) It's honestly so reassuring to know that everyone is watching and listening (^-^)
Despite all of that, my surprise lyric mishaps keep happening, whether it's been 5 years or 15 years, I will never get rid of those...😂Why? ? 😂 I could really feel everyone's surprise and kindness from the chat messages, it was a special sense of gratitude that I probably couldn't experience at a live performances with an on-site audience. Thank you again to everyone who watched and supported me! ! My 5th Anniversary celebrations have only just begun. At my upcoming band live on May 12th, I would like to have the time to reflect even more on the past five years ! Details will be posted soon! Please be patient a little while longer~・:*+.\(( °ω° ))/.:+
Lastly, I would like to post some pictures of my dress from February 6th 😆This is the same dress I wore on the cover of my 1st album "Wakana"♪ I also wore it during the encore for my ``VOICE'' tour, at that time, it was altered a bit so it would work better for a live performance 😍 I had my hair down, which is quite unusual for me ♡ The makeup artist also added some sparkling hairpins 😍
I always wonder why my shoulder bones are so prominent...🤣 I think it's a skeletal issue because I am pretty sure not everyone's shoulder looks like that, right? 😂 I don't have any particular pain or problems in this area but I always feel like there's just a lot of bone sticking out. I envy people with smoother shoulders🥺
Anyway, I'm glad I was able to fit into a dress from 5 years ago ・:*+.\(( °ω° ))/.:+ For some reason, that got me super excited! 😂😂 Easy peasy🤗 Yay!
So, that’s it for today! Until next time~ ☆( *'▽'*)/

Hey there!
I’m a new writer-director finishing up film school and I keep getting into little spats with some of my instructors over my characters talking too much/for too long.
My stock response at this point has basically become “Well, it works just fine when Mike Flanagan does it.”
I don’t know if it’s because I come from a theatre background or what, but I really don’t like the seemingly common wisdom that characters talking—actors orating—is boring for audiences. That you have to have Something Happening all the time, and that characters “just” conversing or telling a story doesn’t count, as though “to speak” isn’t a verb.
Since you tend to have characters speak at length and it turns out riveting—I’m thinking specifically of the confetti speech from Hill House and Hassan’s speech about being a Muslim cop in NYC from Midnight Mass—I was hoping you could share some of your thoughts on balancing action with conversation, giving actors room to “just” talk, and keeping lengthy oration engaging.
Thanks!
I also come from a theater background. I wouldn't be too hard on your instructors - in fact, they sound like they're pretty in sync with a lot of executives in the industry.
I received similar feedback when I was a film student. My first few student features were very talky. We were studying the breakthrough work of Kevin Smith, Spike Lee, and Jim Jarmusch. The indie movies that were selling at Sundance and hitting theaters were The Brothers McMullen and Chuck and Buck. Tarantino had hit the scene and his characters were dropping pages and pages and pages of thick, unhurried dialogue. Reservoir Dogs posters were hanging on every dorm room wall on campus, and that movie was essentially just a long conversation. We watched My Dinner With Andre in class. So yeah, most of our student films were emulating that.
I have always loved a monologue. Going back to Robert Shaw's hypnotic story in Jaws, to Harry Dean Stanton's jaw-dropping monologue in Paris, Texas. It's an art form. Giving actors room to speak, to find music in dialogue, to transport a viewer just with mere words... that's an incredible feat, I think. It's some of the oldest magic left.
That said, I've always tried to balance that out. It's a visual medium, after all, and whenever I've found myself leaning too hard on the words, I've tried to counterbalance that was a very ambitions visual sequence, a long unbroken camera maneuver, or something else that honors the difference between filmed entertainment and theatre.
One of the reasons I made Hush was to challenge myself to eliminate words from my arsenal and focus on visual storytelling.
I take a fair amount of flack for my monologues and dialogue, first from studio executives and then from a small percentage of viewers whose attention spans are being challenged. The most common note I get on any project is to take out talking. It can be disheartening, but I'm always trying to be fair about it, and to be sympathetic to the fact that a lot of movies and television have actively tried to shorten viewers' attention spans for decades now. Audiences are being trained for things to happen faster, louder, shorter. What good is your amazing 6-minute monologue if people changed the channel two episodes ago?
There are times when it is more important to me than others. I dug in hard on Midnight Mass, where the words and ideas in those soliloquies are a big part of the point of the show... but on The Midnight Club, I didn't push for it. I kept scenes relatively short, and there isn't a monologue to be found.
But my overarching feeling is that an artfully written and well performed monologue is a gift, and a dying art. It celebrates great acting, it requires great trust of the performer and of the viewer, and it has the power to transport us with one of the oldest magics human beings ever discovered - the spoken word.
Storytelling began that way: monologues around a campfire. Over the millennia, we've harnessed that campfire light, we've even learned to paint with it, to pull our dreams out of our minds and put them onto giant screens, so the whole world can dream together... but the real magic still starts with the words.
Which is my long-winded way of trying to encourage you to make your films the way you want to make them. Make the films you want to see. And if you love words... that's a great thing. Try to find a balance, never lose sight of the visual medium, and if you're going to drop a big chunk of words in there, try to earn it with something visually challenging as well.
Or, just tell your instructors you'll make it shorter, and then cut out ten frames of air. ;)

I’m not big into musicals and although The Phantom of the Opera is probably the most well known one, I have never fully indulged myself in it. What are some of your favorites moments from the musical and what about it changed your life?
(I figured I might as well learn about it and you seem like an amazing teacher!)
Oh, Stephanie, honey darlin’, I just LOVE this can of worms you are opening for me—thank you so much for asking!! ❤️ (Did I spend way to much time on this? yes. Did I love every minute of it? also yes. Did I cry watching the Overture clips? 100% yes.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, I was pretty young when I first listened to the soundtrack (only 8), and digging way deep, I’ll say that the drama of the music itself really got to me—the big orchestrations and amazing voices had me instantly hooked. Also, I was so fascinated that almost the entire musical was sung and that made it incredibly interesting to listen to because I could pretty much figure out the whole story just from the lyrics. I had been exposed to musicals prior to this, mainly Disney ones and good ole Rogers and Hammerstein ones, but this was so different. It was dark and scary (murder! crazy genius madman! problematic love story!). It was dramatic af. And it pulled at my heartstrings in a way nothing had ever done before. And I know Phantom isn’t for everyone because the opera-esque style of singing is not everyone’s cup of tea (and honestly, I am not really a classical opera fan either LOL), but I loved it cuz I’d never heard people do such amazing things with their voices before.
I saw it live for the first time just after my 11th birthday (and 12 -13 times since in various places, not counting filmed productions), and I will say I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. There is so much to look at and take in and somehow I always find something new each time I see it. It's a complete spectacle in the best way possible, honestly. It was everything amazing about theater that I longed to be a part of.
It changed my life because I wanted to be Christine Daae (lol). The more I listened, the more I wanted to sing like her and that led me to the fact that this was a musical and people could actually be in this production. So I learned as much as I could about the production and I tried to mold my little voice to be like Christine’s. And moreover, it inspired me to seek out more musicals in a similar vein, which opened an entire new world to me (hey, there Les Miserables and Evita and all the dramatic 70s/80s/90s musicals lol). Basically, Phantom turned me fully into a theater kid. I was already a dancer, and even though I was relatively shy, I thought that maybe, just maybe this was something I could do. And it set me on the path to do so! Lord knows without Phantom I may have ended up a STEM kid, but lol no. Luckily, my parents were SUPER supportive of this new passion and I owe so much to them for all the lessons and theater tickets and performances they had to sit through and for torturing them with the same thing over and over again LOL. Thanks, Mom and Dad! Anyway, I was the ultimate theater/choir kid in high school, and eventually got my Bachelor’s Degree in Theater as well.
Soooo, favorite moments! (There are many—I could go through the whole show but I’ll try to cut it down lol).
The Overture (see links below). Seriously incredible music, sets the tone for the show, but when you see the stage production and see how the entire set transforms like magic and that chandelier rises above the audience, my god, it’s incredible. The organ kicks in and the floor vibrates and it's this (brilliant) sensory overload that will make you feel every emotion and sensation. It's magnificent, truly. And this was a HUGE deal in theater in the 80s cuz no one had done anything like it before. And let me tell you, there is nothing like watching that chandelier rise (and fall, later) right over your head! Every time I hear it to this day, I get goosebumps, but if I’m watching it, I will cry. That’s how moving it is. Here's some bootlegs of the stage production (which don't quite do it justice, but it'll have to do! WARNING: Flashing lights) Great quality BL (begins around 3:20 but the Prologue is a good watch!). Another one from Broadway (different angle)
The title song (The Phantom of the Opera) number is crazy. I’m not sure what they were thinking putting synth, an organ, strings, and electric guitars together, but somehow it works (the 80s were WILD lol). Throw in a stunning soprano cadenza at the end and it makes it both incredibly surreal and interesting. And the staging is fantastic. There’s a moving catwalk with body doubles. There’s a boat on a dry ice lake with candles rising out of nowhere. It’s just awesome. The costuming is iconic, too.
The Music of the Night is beautiful. And it takes a major vocal and acting talent to traverse it well. I won’t get too technical vocally, but when done well, this song is so seductive and impactful. It’s a love song about music, about Christine, and it’s innocent and sexual all at once (when done well).
Masquerade (at the top of Act II) is a fabulous ensemble number and the costuming is amazing. Iconic number overall.
Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again is my favorite song of the show (if I have to pick). For anyone who’s experienced loss (esp. that of a parent), the lyrics will hit you right in the heart. But I love listening to (and singing) this one so much.
The Point of No Return is the most underrated number in the show, imo and one of my faves. It is sexy. as. hell. and a bit unexpected, really ramping up the passion btw the Phantom and Christine under the guise of this opera that the Phantom has written and is forcing everyone to perform. A good performance has a lot of nuance and will get you a little hot under the collar. 😏 I honestly don’t feel like I can explain it well enough, but a good watch/listen/reading the lyrics will get you there.
The Final Lair is the insane climax and it’s a bit of a roller coaster but I love it. You’ll go from hating the Phantom to weeping over him in the span of the scene.
The staging, sets, costuming, and makeup overall (of the original production). Like I mentioned above, a lot of what they did in Phantom was new tech for the late 80’s and to this day has a pretty stellar effect on stage. The chandelier rising and falling throughout the show is just super cool. The (4 hour) makeup for the Phantom was pretty cutting edge back in the day and has a wonderful effect on stage when done well.
I highly recommend watching the 25th Anniversary at Royal Albert Hall from 2013 if you can’t see it live. The quality is amazing, the talent is fantastic, and while the staging isn’t quite the original because of the size of the venue, it gives you a pretty good idea of the vibe. If you don’t want to watch the whole thing at first, there are plenty of clips on YouTube of the major numbers via The Shows Must Go On (linked above). (If you are just watching clips, you may want to read a synopsis of the show as a whole so it makes sense what’s going on.) The 2004 film starring Gerald Butler and Emmy Rossum is actually pretty decent from a cinematic perspective (though I have some major qualms about GB's vocal performance) but if it's all you have, its a pretty good representation of the story. And listen, with 35 years of material, there are so many cast recordings and bootlegs, you're bound to find a combo of actors that you like! (I won't dive into that here though, cuz that's a whole other can of worms...)
Anyway, I could go on forever about it, but I will stop there as to not put you to sleep! If you choose to check it out, I hope you enjoy and you’ll have to let me know what you think! ❤️

Some fans say that there's no realism in stories, or that Cobra Kai is a "silly", "fun" story and isn't the type of story that would explore serious topics, like trauma.
Taking a step back from Cobra Kai for a bit, there are a lot of stories that are "silly" and "fun" that explore serious topics. Last year, the Barbie movie was the highest grossing film in the box office. It too explores serious topics in a silly, fun plot and universe. There are a lot of people who dismissed that movie and the topics it explored, but those topics were explored regardless if people acknowledged or dismissed them.
ATLA is a great example of a silly, fun tv series that also explores serious topics. Within a completely made-up animated universe with people with elemental magic powers, the realities of war, colonization, childhood trauma, and trauma due to war are explored.
Many Pixar films are also great examples of exploring serious topics in silly, fun stories. Inside Out takes complex psychological concepts and portrays them in silly, fun ways, all while telling a story about the importance of grief and sadness in coping and healing. Up is another great example. Within its first few minutes, it shows a lifetime of memories that Carl and Ellie shared together. I remember, after one of my friends watched it in theaters, she told me that she couldn't believe that a certain moment in the beginning was in a Disney movie. You may have immediately thought of the moment I'm talking about: Ellie and Carl in the doctor's office getting the news that they can't have kids. This moment came immediately after a moment of them happily putting together a nursery. Following this opening montage, the whole movie itself deals with grief, the importance of finding new connections, and found family. These topics aren't just explored through Carl's story, but through Russell's as well. When he's first introduced, he says that he's trying to get his Assisting the Elderly badge. As the story goes on, he reveals that his dad said he'd come to the ceremony to pin his badge on his sash. The empty spot for the badge is right above Russell's heart. It's such a simple detail that shows the void in Russell's life now that his dad doesn't spend time with him anymore. Later, Russell recounts some memories with his dad, and Carl rolls his eyes at first because Russell is once again prattling on about his dad. Russell says that he and his dad used to sit on the curb outside of an ice cream shop and count different color cars. Then, Russell says in a solemn voice that he liked that curb. He pauses, and then says that it may sound boring but it's the boring stuff that he remembers the most. Carl gets it then because he remembers all the "boring stuff" that he did with Ellie. At that point, he still believes that he and Ellie had a boring life without adventure, but later on, he learns that the life they had together was their adventure. Of course, all of these heartfelt moments happen amongst Carl and Russell flying in a house carried by hundreds of colorful balloons, meeting a bunch of "talking dogs!", and finding the infamous snipe.
It's pretty sad if people really believe that there is no realism in stories and that you can't explore serious topics in silly, fun stories and film. The realism is usually what allows us to emotionally connect with the characters and the story.
When it comes to Cobra Kai, fans focus so much on the plot and the karate fights, but the characters, their traumas, and the relationships is where a huge chunk of the story has always been.
For example, Daniel's entire journey has been about his own past with Cobra Kai and how that affects him and his loved ones. When Daniel was reintroduced for the first time in over 30 years, he seemed like he was doing great. Life was going really well for him, and it seemed like all of his internal demons were dealt with and gone. But they weren't. Seeing the Cobra Kai dojo again in s1e2 triggered him. Since then, he's been dealing with the physical "demons" of Cobra Kai but hasn't fully recognized how his internal demons have been affecting his behavior, which in turn affects the people around him. His behavior is realistic, yet it's an aspect of his character that is misunderstood and dismissed by many fans. Regardless, it's there and it drives his journey.
In Kreese's case, they've added a lot of backstory, including a series of flashbacks throughout s3, that shows why he is the way he is and what drives his motivations. In s3e10, the juxtaposition of the flashbacks of Kreese's fight with his own sensei/mentor and the scenes of Kreese's fight with Johnny is no coincidence. Johnny and Robby's first and only violent confrontation was also included in this mix of generational trauma and conflicts. In s5, Kreese had a whole therapy arc, including a scene in which he imagined people from his life who he had unresolved relationships with, including his younger self. Kreese choosing war instead of redemption at the end of s5 makes sense for his character.
In a lot of his Cobra Kai interviews, Thomas Ian Griffith comments about how, in this absurd world in Cobra Kai, the writers have been able to include elements that ground the story and get you to connect (emotionally) with the characters. Although Thomas plays Silver, one of the most batshit characters in the story, Thomas himself has written for other shows (for example Grimm) and understands more than most all the elements that go into telling a story like this one.
When it comes to Johnny and Robby's relationship in s5 specifically, their characters and relationship were portrayed as they always have been throughout the series.
Johnny kept choosing Miguel and the Diazs over Robby: Johnny manipulated Robby and endangered his life to find Miguel in Mexico. Johnny later ignored Robby's request for space and forced him to have a physical fight with Miguel and accept the Diazs as family because of the baby plot device. Johnny gave fatherly advice to Miguel and not to Robby.
Before s5, some fans would describe Robby as a chameleon because he would adapt based on his circumstances. Sadly, Robby had to change completely in s5 to survive Johnny's behavior: After Johnny had lied and dragged Robby down to Mexico and tried to manipulate him to stay to help find Miguel, Johnny dumped Robby at a bus stop with some cash to get home on his own because Robby had gotten upset that Johnny had done lied to him. Robby could either help Johnny find Miguel or Robby would be on his own to get back home with only some cash from Johnny, so Robby chose to help Johnny. Later on, Johnny ignored Robby's request for space from Miguel. After Miguel said yes to Johnny for a fight with Robby, Robby had to say yes to the fight too. After the fight, when Johnny asked if they're okay now, Robby paused and then nodded yes, although Miguel never took accountability for his wrongs against Robby. Robby also had to act excited about the baby news, like Johnny said they have to. Robby later had to ask Carmen's permission if he could have dinner with his new "family". Robby also had to take back his comment about Johnny giving fatherly advice to Miguel and not him. Throughout the season, Robby had to adapt to survive Johnny and be accepted into his life now.
Johnny is a still a deadbeat alcoholic: Like in previous seasons, in s5e3 Johnny had a montage of cleaning up his apartment. But in s5e4, nothing about his portrayal indicated that he'd changed. In fact, he was portrayed as the exact opposite of Carmen's dream. (I think she even imagined him as Maverick from Top Gun, although in s4 he'd said that he's a fan of Iceman.) Carmen's dream Johnny is definitely not who he really is, and the rest of the episode was used to show that. Although Johnny gave a sincere apology to Shannon, Johnny never gave one to Robby. In s5e5, Johnny had beer cans stacked into a cactus and had used boxes with the coors banquet logo as makeshift doors to the hallway for the escape room. When Daniel came to the apartment, Johnny commented about him reeking of booze, but then he gave Daniel a beer and Daniel later thanked him for it. Funny that many fans proudly call out the first part but don't call out the latter parts. They also proudly say that Johnny "put his family first", but he actually just put himself first. He forced Robby into a physical fight for his own gain. Since most fans have always viewed Johnny's mistreatment of Robby as acceptable, it's not surprising that they were okay with how Johnny treated Robby throughout s5. In s5e6, Johnny had a beer in his hand when he and Chozen went during the day to scope out the Topanga Karate turned Cobra Kai dojo. In s5e9, Johnny got drunk as he celebrated knocking up his girlfriend and then committed a trespass and assault. He ended s5 with yet another self-centered speech, this time about what he would lose if something had happened to him. The sad thing is if you point all this out, most fans will just dismiss you and say that you just "hate" Johnny and the Diazs and don't want to accept that he's changed, instead of themselves admitting that he's still the same Johnny and they're fine with that. In a way, he's actually worse now because he's escalated to actively endangering and physically harming Robby, while also believing that he has changed for the better.
For sometime now, fans have believed that Miguel was going to help Johnny grow and become a better father to Robby. The trope is that Johnny would apply what he has learned in his relationship with Miguel to his relationship with Robby. Johnny hasn't done that though. Even in s5, Johnny was clearly shown choosing Miguel over Robby repeatedly, even endangering and abusing Robby to ensure Miguel's safety and happiness. All these people claiming that Miguel and the Diazs have had a "positive" impact in Johnny's life intentionally dismiss the aspects of the story that don't support this claim.
The baby plotline in s5 seems to have taken away any chance of the story eventually focusing Johnny becoming a real father to Robby, but this plot device was used in such a negative way in s5. It reminds me of how the medal of honor was used in s2 to negatively impact character arcs. In addition to the psychological and physical trauma Johnny subjected Robby to because the baby is coming, Johnny kept talking about the baby as a chance to make up for screwing up with Robby. So, Johnny was using the baby the same way he uses Miguel: as a do-over. Clearly, by the end of s5, Johnny hasn't grown because of the baby coming, just like how Johnny hasn't grown as a father to Robby because of having Miguel in his life.
Throughout the series, subtle verbal and visual indications have always been included to remind the audience that Robby is Johnny's son. In s5e10, this sequence of scenes stands out.
Kenny hits Robby with the Silver Bullet, and Robby starts falling to his knees. The scene cuts to Johnny falling to his knees and spitting out blood.
Tumblr media
Silver comes and says a few things to Johnny, including that Johnny would screw up another kid. This scene ends with Silver saying, "Finish him." The scene cuts back to Robby, and Kenny and two cobras teaming up on him, essentially "finishing him". Silver had told his students earlier that day to show no mercy to Robby and his friends if they came to the dojo again.
Tumblr media
The only line that acknowledges the reality of Johnny becoming a father again is bookended by these two editing cuts, one of the many subtle, visual reminders throughout the series that Robby is Johnny's son. The statement itself literally tells us what to expect if Johnny were to become a father again: Johnny will screw up another kid.
If the writers had rushed the story in s5 thinking that they may not get renewed, as some have claimed, the writers would have focused on properly resolving Johnny's storylines with Kreese and Robby first, which is the storyline the writers care about, and having Johnny actually grow in the process. Instead they used s5 to give Johnny a shallow "happy ending" with the Diazs with no positive character growth and included another negative plot device to worsen his behavior with Robby, essentially continuing with Johnny's failures to do right by Robby and not yet addressing the generational trauma that Johnny passes down and that will just "screw up another kid". Given the crucial loose ends for Johnny's story at the end of s5 and the writers' own statements up to the release of s5 that there's more story to tell, it's obvious that s5 ended with more story to tell especially for Johnny. It's not surprising that fans who believe that Johnny's primary story is with the Diazs are satisfied with s5 as a "real" ending. However, Johnny's story with them has never been Johnny's primary story at all. Even if people discount the importance of Johnny's story with Robby, Johnny's story with Kreese and Kreese's story with Johnny are still unresolved. At the start of s5e10, Kreese recounted Johnny's promise to wipe out his legacy. At the end of s5e10, Kreese set out on the warpath. Next season, as the story concludes, Johnny will have to face his past, and this time, he won't be able run from it like he has been doing since s3e10, the story's midpoint and the episode that emphasized 3 generations of Cobra Kai, trauma, and conflict.
This story has always been about tackling the topic of generational trauma. The writers have always said that they're exploring how Johnny's relationship and past with Kreese affects Johnny's relationship with Robby. By the end of s5, Johnny's relationships with Kreese and with Robby have yet to be resolved, especially from Johnny's side. Johnny hasn't wiped out Kreese's legacy, as Johnny promised in s5e7. Johnny also hasn't resolved anything with Robby. For example, Johnny could have apologized to Robby sincerely, like Johnny did with Shannon, and made the same or more efforts with Robby to ensure his safety and happiness, like Johnny did for Miguel. Instead, Johnny consistently focused on his unhealthy codependent relationships with the Diazs and on his own ego, like he has throughout the series, endangering and traumatizing Robby in the process. Although Johnny told Chozen in s5e9 that he'd decided to move on from the past, which Johnny did in s3e10 including leaving Robby behind with Kreese, Johnny himself kept bringing up his failures with Robby whenever he talked about the baby throughout s5. The past is still gnawing at Johnny from the inside. Johnny clearly hasn't moved on from failing Robby. After all, Johnny stated his motivations at the beginning of s5: "I'm out here trying to fix my mistakes so that I don't have to live with the regret of making them." The baby became another do over for Johnny instead of a "person" of its own because Johnny is still looking to appease his own guilt for failing Robby instead of truly redeeming himself to Robby. That's also why Johnny's finale speech was still about himself and what he would lose. Johnny is still focused on himself first and foremost, as he has been since s1.

(All I Have to Do is) Dream: Why The Sandman is Important To Me
My first encounter with the works of Neil Gaiman was in 2009 when I sat in a dark theater and was delighted by the Henry Selick adaptation of Gaiman’s Coraline. I immediately sought out a copy of the book and was entranced by his writing, as it was exactly the kind of fantasy writing I enjoyed reading, mixing the magic and wonder of the real world with that of a fantastical world that could only exist in imagination. I was hooked, and soon I had also collected American Gods, Anansi Boys, and several of his short stories. This is when I first became aware of The Sandman, but I wouldn’t actually read it until a few years later when I was in film school. I was roaming the school library for some good reading material, and they had a large collection of the trade paperbacks of each volume of Sandman. I had never been a huge comic book person despite enjoying superheroes on television and film, but Neil’s name meant It was at least worth a look. I tore through each volume (although I admit I got a tad impatient and skipped some of the stand-alone tales to finish the full arc of the story, something I have remedied on subsequent re-reads). For my senior thesis in film school, I focused on a story about dreams and traveling through them, and to say this isn’t influenced by Sandman would be an outright lie. I had written some of the basics before I read the whole of Sandman, but it really took shape when I wanted to tell my own story set in dreams. I even got to discuss it with Neil Gaiman himself when I had the great fortune to spend an evening with him and his wife. He gave me great advice to tell my story, and very kindly signed my favorite volume of Sandman, A Game of You, and his signature had the wonderful advice to “Dream Dangerously” which I have tried my best to do ever since. Throughout my time in Film School I dreamed of possibly getting to adapt Sandman for HBO or some similar television network someday, and while that has not come to pass, I was so thankful for it being a part of my education.
Several years passed, I had graduated, moved to Florida and had spent many years working at a certain Haunted Mansion in a certain theme park, and Sandman still stuck with me. I would go back and reread my favorite bits over and over again, and was excited when they were working on a film adaptation with Joseph Gordon-Levitt involved, and then even more excited when Netflix announced they were making a series out of the show, which I always felt was the best way to adapt the material.
And then my life fell apart. 2019 came into my life like a force of nature, destroying as much as it could. I wound up in the hospital multiple times and discovered that my body was basically destroying itself after I let it fall into disrepair due to a severe bout of depression. Between this and being stuck indoors during the pandemic, it got worse, and I ended up having to leave my job, which lost me not only a place I loved working for but friends too. I started to feel very alone. I wound up back in the hospital and physical rehab. I had to move out of an apartment that had been home for years, into a strange new home with a strange new roommate, and the loneliness continued to mount. I was in constant pain, and often, the only real voice I had to speak to was the one in my head, which was quickly becoming a much darker voice than it had ever been before. I used to tell myself I’d never consider suicide, it just wasn’t my style, but in the dark of lonely nights, trapped in a room by myself, I did. I thought about how perhaps it would just be better if I was no longer here, and that dark voice getting so much stronger than I ever imagined it could. I had one thing I was looking forward to…The Sandman adaptation. It feels silly to say that a television show was the only thing I had to look forward to, but it’s true. I found a small group of fans on Twitter and they were so kind and welcoming to an older guy who just wanted to watch his favorite story become a show. To help with the long wait and anticipation I finally sat down and listened to the Audible audiobook adaptation of The Sandman, which I had been avoiding as I typically have a hard time with audiobooks, but once I listened, I found myself discovering the magic of the world of The Sandman in a new way, and it felt as if for the first time. As I sat in my bed, struggling with my pain and health, I could make all that go away by putting my headphones on, and listening to Dream of the Endless go on his journeys.
When I first read the comics, one of the one-off short stories on my first read-through that didn’t quite click with me was Facade, a story that features Death meeting a woman named Urania Blackwell (Element Girl for comic savvy folk) who was cursed to be made of different elements and it was slowly destroying her life and mental state. As I listened to the Audible version of this story, it suddenly became real. A woman who can barely leave her apartment due to her condition, her only real companion being a weekly phone call, and a desire, but inability, to kill herself. I found myself silently sobbing as Urania spoke with Death about her life being miserable. I then began to imagine my conversation with Death, the kind goth woman who Gaiman imagined to whisk people from this life to whatever comes next with kindness and a smile. I realized that Sandman had saved me. The dark voice started to go quiet in my mind.
I admit, I still struggle with these thoughts sometimes, and I am still finding my way back to what I sometimes refer to as “normal” but it has been so helpful to have this world to escape to, to help make sense of my reality. It reminded me how simple it is to go somewhere special, and reminded me that all I have to do is dream.
Thanks to Neil Gaiman (@neil-gaiman), Sam Keith, Mike Dringenberg, and all the artists who have worked on Sandman over the years. As you have done so to many hundreds of thousands of readers before me, you inspired me. You inspired me in 2012, and then you saved me in 2022. I can’t thank you enough and I can’t wait to watch the entirety of the new show and find myself lost in that world yet again.
May we all continue to dream dangerously

thinking abt perv eddie. just in general. anything smut wise with him 🙏🙏🙏🙏 on my knees
oh my god yes
warnings: NSFW, Minors DNI, fingering, exhibitionism, eddie fingers u in a movie theater, eddie also calls u princess and u wear a skirt
join my 100 follower celebration!
“Eddie!” You swat his hand away from the hem of your skirt.
When Eddie had asked you out for dinner and a movie you had happily agreed. You always liked Eddie. He was cute and funny. His eyes may linger a little too long at your chest but he was always sweet.
“Come on princess, you’re killing me in that pretty thing.” He winks as he rests his hand on your thigh.
You bite your lip as he gently runs his thumb across your bare skin. The lights in the theater dim and you sigh softly, thinking Eddie would focus on the movie now. To your surprise he does the opposite.
With the cover of darkness Eddie gets bolder than before. He won’t tell you yet but you’ve been driving him absolutely crazy.
The short skirts, the sweet smile, and most of all that vanilla perfume you use. Fuck. He dreams of that. Every time he gets a whiff in the halls he has to excuse himself for a moment.
Of course you’re wearing it again today but this time he’s going to do something about it. His hand inches higher and higher until he can feel the lace of your panties. Your fingers are gripping your soda tightly.
“Eddie..” You whisper quietly. A hint of desperation in your voice as Eddie begins to rub his fingers along the top of them.
“Shh Princess, can’t talk during the movie.” You let out a small moan as he hooks his fingers and pulls your panties down quickly.
A small squeak of shock comes out and you quickly look around to see if anyone notices. Thankfully everyone seems to be too occupied with the movie.
Eddie gives you no time to relax as he brings his fingers to your exposed pussy. Your underwear now in his pocket, a souvenir for later. Your eyes flutter shut as he rubs your clit roughly.
It takes everything you have not to moan loudly as he slips two of his fingers deep into your cunt. The sound is absolutely filthy as moves slow and hard.
The noise from the film covers it but even if it didn’t you aren’t sure if you’d care. You’ve never felt so dirty and so good before.
His fingers are working magic as you squirm in your seat. Eddie’s eyes are staring at the screen but steals glances to watch as you come undone on his fingers.
“Oh Eddie!” You quietly moan in his ear.
“Such a dirty girl..” Eddie teases.
“Getting fucked out by the town freak in a movie theater.” He punctuates his words by roughly fucking his fingers into you.
“M’so close.” You whisper and Eddie just smirks.
The pleasure courses through your body as you get closer to your orgasm. You let out a choked gasp as he rips his fingers from your cunt.
The pleasure fades away making you want to cry. Looking over in shock you watch as Eddie licks his fingers clean.
“Aw don’t look so sad princess. The movie’s not over yet.”

A letter to Akira Toriyama
Dear Akira Toriyama,
I first interacted with dragonball when I was in 6th grade or so, when I started playing dragon ball fusions for the 3ds since the trailer looked cool. Kind of a weird start right? But I was getting really into anime at the time, and wanted to check out one of the most popular ones. I had NO idea who the characters were, and had NO clue what the story was about. But for some reason against all the odds, as soon as I saw the title screen boot up with that soaring music I was hooked. The game was super fun, no doubt about it. But what REALLY kept me going when playing it, was the world of dragon ball itself.
Again I had no clue who any of these people were. But seeing these characters interact with each other, seeing these different setpieces made, seeing all of these powers and personalities, it was unlike anything I’d ever experienced before. It channeled the raw kid desire in me to see two buff dudes duking it out, and god I adored every bit of it.
I didn't dig any deeper than that initially, and like all my other hyperfixations it died down. But again in 7th grade I started playing fighterz, and I was hooked again. But this time I dug deeper in preparation for the release of the new GT dlc, and so the first dragon ball media I actually watched? Was GT. Which is hilarious in hindsight, but I still adored every second of it.
In 8th grade things were not going so well for me, I was losing friends due to being an asshole, and I had to change myself to be worthy of the people around me. I was pretty depressed, and everything seemed sad and hopeless (I know it's pretty dramatic for a literal like 13 year old but bear with me lmao). It's around that time when I decided to watch Dragon Ball Super. And again, I was hooked. I binged it so fast, all 130 something episodes. I could talk big about the characters and everything, but honestly it was just so plain cool. It made me feel excited and happy, it made me feel like everything was ok. And those positive feelings made that much of a difference in me.
From that point on I always was interested in Dragon Ball. my first and only hyperfixation to never really go away. I read the OG dragonball, and started REALLY noticing your artistic talent. From the way you drew Goku moving across the battlefield and the poses he struck. To the illustrations of the action and the punches thrown. It was all so dynamic and energetic. When I was reading it I was always engaged, excited to see the next panel. I wanted to channel the same energy in my own art somehow, to encapsulate the same excitement you instilled in me with your drawings.
I FINALLY got around to watching and reading Z a little later. And of course I loved it. I knew all the basic plot beats, and had a 3 in one Goku vs Vegeta volume collection that I would reread constantly. But seeing them play it is so different. I also started to admire your character design more and more. Trying to draw them in my free time, and getting a bit sad when I couldn't capture the same magic you could.
All of this, of course, was older material though. This was all before my time, I was never there to experience it when it initially happened. Not for super, not for the OG DB, and not for Z. I adored it all, but I always knew what was going to happen.
I remember the reaction on my face when the news of DBS Superhero dropped. I was so so SO excited. More than you could ever imagine. Something new, something I could see with my own eyes, and something about Piccolo and Gohan??? It was amazing. And seeing it in theaters a few years later? God I was on the edge of my seat the entire film. I even started reading the DBS manga, I think it's amazing so far.
When I heard that you were gone yesterday night, I was crushed.
I’m a junior now. And after a long time of thinking about it, being anxious, afraid, and scared of the future. I think I want to be an artist or filmmaker. I want to bring the same energy you did to the world. I'm still trying to figure out my artstyle, and how I want to draw. I’m not great at it, but no matter what, I want to keep going. Because I want to bring a character to life, like you brought Son Goku to life and so many others as well. I want to inspire so many others like you inspired me. With your messages, you brought me happiness. You told me that simplicity was ok with Son Goku. You told me that we need to fight for what we love with Son Gohan. You told me that we should aim to be better than our predecessors with Piccolo Junior. You told me that we shouldn't let our pride consume us with Vegeta. You’ve shown me and the entire world so so much. And I hope you were proud of it. I’m
I said the world of Dragon Ball earlier, but really, it was your world Akira Toriyama. And your world changed mine forever in the best way. Thank you, for letting me dream again.

Kaiju Week in Review (October 15-21, 2023)
Tumblr media
Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong #1 is metahuman-heavy, establishing how the Titans of the Monsterverse found themselves on the same Earth as DC's finest and ending with Superman flying off to face Godzilla. It's early days, but the conveniently deserted Skull Island base the Legion of Doom storms into makes me pessimistic that any of the Monsterverse's human characters will show up. Rodan is also absent from the Titan line-up, despite appearing via flashback in the short Godzilla: Fight or Flight comic included in the Monsterverse Omnibus earlier this year. (Toho must be overcharging for Godzilla's supporting cast again.) It should be fun watching D-listers like Behemoth, Scylla, and Camazotz tangle with some of the world's most famous superheroes though.
Sales data for DC comics is effectively unavailable now, but anecdotally this one is doing gangbusters. The downside of snagging it now over waiting for the trade paperback is that DC disperses ads throughout the comic, instead of just at the end like IDW.
Tumblr media
Toho announced a ton of U.S. Godzilla merch launching in the U.S. on November 3. Your mileage will vary, but the most interesting baubles to me are the Godzilla Minus One promo cards from UVS Games (to be sold on TCGplayer.com) and the trading cards from Surreal Entertainment (to be sold at Five Below). Very few Godzilla trading cards have been produced in either Japan or the U.S. since 2006, and most of those have been cross-promotions with Magic: The Gathering and Battle Spirits. I have a small collection of random cards from older sets (a couple of them signed), and it'll be cool to expand it a little.
Tumblr media
Toho's Godzilla Day announcement also included some news on Godzilla Minus One's U.S. release, which I thought deserved its own section. Tickets go on sale November 3rd—including for "special Early Access Fan Event Screenings on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, in IMAX and large format theaters across the country." So Toho International has outmaneuvered Beyoncé in the competition for IMAX screens, if only for one night.
In other Minus One news, a couple new TV spots are out (and translated by the GODZILLA OFFICIAL by TOHO YouTube channel). One shows off a new Godzilla ability, if you're wary of spoilers. Its world premiere was held beneath the Godzilla Head in Shinjuku on October 18, where the incredible Godzilla Attack Truck also debuted.
Tumblr media
IDW's Godzilla Valentine's Day Special, due January 31, dares to ask, "What if the old 'kill the monster or study the monster' argument was foreplay?" Zoe Tunnell, who I suspect is a Godzilla 2000 fan, writes, and Dani Pendergast illustrates. I'd like to thank them both for making a comic specifically for me. The logline:
Is there anything as romantic as seeing the world together? Hopping from country to country to take in the sights and splendor in the fleeting seconds before Godzilla smashes the skyline? Truly, there's nothing like the thrill of an international game of cat and mouse between an intrepid amateur kaiju researcher and a global kaiju-response lieutenant. But when you're up against Godzilla, it's hard to have a bigger "CRUSH."
youtube
SRS Cinema has picked up War of the Ninja Monsters: Jaron vs. Goura, the latest no-budget spectacular from Shinpei Hayashiya. The two monsters are basically Godzilla and Gamera, one-upping Giant Monsters Appear in Tokyo, which never showed its Godzilla and Gamera expies outside of the poster. Hopefully it'll be less headache-inducing than God Raiga vs. King Ohga: War of the Monsters. SRS is aiming to release it on Blu-ray and VHS in early 2024, with a DVD to follow later in the year.
Tumblr media
Hoshi 35, Megumi Odaka's return to live-action film, opened in Japan on October 21. A new trailer is out too. SRS Cinemas has an existing relationship with production company 3Y, which previously made The Great Buddha Arrival and Nezura 1964, so I'd expect them to license this one too.
youtube
This Netflix ad for an online convention of sorts includes the first snippets of footage from Ultraman Rising, the Tsuburaya/ILM animated film it's distributing next year. The animation is miles above the Netflix Ultraman anime, that's for sure.

PREMIERES AND EVENTS - ADULT FAME DR
REMINDER! I haven’t shifted yet, so all these is just my imagination 🤍
Premieres, in the world of entertainment, are truly a grand spectacle, a moment when a new work of art is unveiled to the world. These events mark the culmination of countless hours of creativity, hard work, and dedication by filmmakers, actors, and production teams. Premieres are where the magic of cinema, theater, music, or any other artistic creation comes to life on the big stage, captivating audiences and leaving a lasting impact. They are a celebration of storytelling and a platform for artists to share their craft with the world, making premieres an essential and thrilling element of the entertainment industry.
LITTLE WOMEN PREMIERE
Tumblr media
Attending the premiere of "Little Women" was a night to remember. I decided to don a stunning long dress, a unique creation that combined the elegance of pink on top with the vibrancy of green in the skirt. Walking the red carpet hand in hand with my recent husband, Penn Badgley, we made quite the entrance, and the buzz around us was unmistakable.
The premiere turned into an unexpected revelation as the news of our recent marriage broke out. It was a pleasant surprise to share this personal milestone with the world, and the warm wishes from the fans and media made the night even more special.
The cast, with whom I had formed a deep bond during the filming of "Little Women," gathered for photos, exuding a sense of unity and camaraderie. We were a family, celebrating not only the film but also our shared journey.
Amid the glitz and glamour, interviews were a chance to reflect on the film's significance and our roles in bringing these beloved characters to life. It was a moment of pride and nostalgia, looking back on the hard work and dedication that had gone into the production.
The screening of "Little Women" was a true delight, shared with esteemed guests, friends, and fellow cast members. The collective emotions in the theater, the laughter, and the tears, added to the film's impact.
The night ended with a lively party, where we all let loose and celebrated the success of the film. Laughter, music, and heartfelt conversations filled the room as we celebrated not only the movie but also the bonds we had forged. It was a night where we all ended up a little drunk but had an enormous amount of fun, creating memories to cherish for a lifetime.
KNIVES OUT PREMIERE
Tumblr media
On the unforgettable night of the "Knives Out" film premiere, I was filled with a mixture of excitement and nerves. Stepping onto the red carpet, I wore a stunning purple dress with elegant sleeves and paired it with high purple heels. The ensemble made me feel like a true Hollywood star, and the cameras flashing in all directions only added to the thrill.
Adding to the specialness of the evening was the fact that my companion for the night was none other than Penn Badgley, my husband at that time. Our smiles were contagious as we interacted with fans and reporters, sharing our enthusiasm for the film.
Amidst the flashing lights and the buzz of the premiere, the cast and crew gathered for photographs, creating lasting memories of the evening. The camaraderie we had developed on set was evident as we posed for pictures, and the sense of unity among us was palpable.
Later, Chris Evans, who played Ransom, and I found ourselves in interviews, discussing the intricacies of our characters and the joy of being a part of this talented ensemble. It was a moment to reflect on the hard work and dedication that had brought "Knives Out" to life.
The film screening was a highlight of the night. We watched the movie alongside the esteemed guests and colleagues who had contributed to this cinematic masterpiece. The reactions of the audience were exhilarating, and the applause at the end of the film was a testament to the collective effort we had put into making it a success.
After the screening, we let our hair down and celebrated at a lively party. Laughter, music, and spirited conversations filled the room as we all relished the success of the film. It was a night to remember, one where we all let loose and reveled in the joy of the moment, toasting to the magic of storytelling and the bond we had formed as the "Knives Out" cast.
OSCARS 2020
Tumblr media
At the Oscars in 2020, I made quite the statement with my attire, wearing a half-red dress on top and a light baby red skirt on the bottom. The striking combination exuded confidence and style, as I had recently gone through a divorce from Penn and wanted to showcase my independence and strength, looking both sexy and savage on the red carpet.
My presence at the Oscars that year was as a presenter for the "Best Director" category, which turned out to be a historic moment when Bong Joon-ho won for his exceptional film, "Parasite."
Interestingly, I attended the event by myself, walking down the iconic red carpet, making a statement not just with my attire but also with my confident solo appearance.
The night was bittersweet, with interviews that focused more on my recent divorce than my upcoming projects, which I was eager to discuss. Despite the distractions, I managed a few interviews, trying to steer the conversation towards my professional endeavors.
The evening culminated in a grand Oscar party, where attendees indulged in revelry. We all celebrated, unwinding with a bit too much to drink, and had a lot of fun, forging new connections and celebrating the artistry of the film industry.
EMMYS 2021
Tumblr media
At the 2021 Emmys, I graced the event in a stunning blue marble dress, accentuated with elegant long sleeves, signifying a fresh start as the quarantine had recently come to an end.
What made the evening even more special was attending alongside my boyfriend at that time, Robert Pattinson. Although we weren't nominated for any awards, we had the privilege of being invited to the show, making it a memorable night for both of us.
Rob and I seized the opportunity to capture some beautiful photos on the red carpet, basking in the attention from the cameras and the shared experience of the event.
During interviews, we candidly discussed our exciting future projects and offered glimpses into our relationship, sparking interest and admiration from our fans and the media.
The night concluded with a lively Emmy after-party, where we mingled with industry colleagues and friends. As the night went on, laughter, music, and a few too many drinks added to the festive atmosphere, creating lasting memories of a night filled with fun and celebration.
OSCARS 2022
Tumblr media
At the Oscars in 2022, I graced the event in a beautiful, voluminous, long cream dress, exuding elegance and style as I walked down the red carpet.
I had the pleasure of attending the Oscars with my father, Hugh Jackman, making it a memorable family affair. Together, we celebrated the magic of cinema and the incredible talents of the evening.
My role that night was as a presenter for the "Best Original Screenplay" category, and I had the honor of announcing Kenneth Branagh's "Belfast" as the winner. It was a moment filled with pride and excitement.
Hugh and I took the time to capture some cherished photos on the red carpet, relishing the moment together. We also engaged in interviews, sharing our thoughts on the event and the joy of being part of the Oscars.
The night concluded with a grand Oscar after-party, where we joined fellow industry colleagues and friends in celebration. As the evening went on, laughter, music, and a few drinks added to the festivities, creating enduring memories of a night filled with joy and camaraderie.
TOP GUN MAVERICK PREMIERE
Tumblr media
At the premiere of "Top Gun Maverick," I wore a stunning blue dress, which perfectly complemented the theme of the evening. To add an extra touch of glamour, I adorned myself with a very expensive Tiffany necklace featuring a captivating blue jewel. My intention was to exude sophistication and make a lasting impression on the red carpet.
Interestingly, I attended the premiere alone, which allowed me to focus on the excitement surrounding the event and the film.
Things got quite wild when Miles and I, who had shared a past romantic connection, took pictures together on the red carpet. The paparazzi frenzy was fueled by the fact that our characters in the film had a relationship, leading to a flurry of rumors and speculations.
The interviews that followed were indeed awkward, with interviewers consistently bringing up the topic of our past relationship and delving into personal details that weren't rooted in reality. The persistent questioning about whether we had rekindled our romance or if Miles was getting divorced added to the discomfort.
Rumors and speculations began to swirl, and both Miles and I found it challenging to deal with the unwanted attention. While we shared a mutual respect and affection, it was important to clarify that we had moved on and maintained separate lives.
After the screening of "Top Gun Maverick," we joined the other guests for a grand premiere party. As the night unfolded, we all indulged in the festivities, including a few too many drinks, and enjoyed a night filled with laughter and camaraderie, putting the rumors aside and focusing on the celebration of the film.
THE SEVEN HUSBANDS OF EVELYN HUGO PREMIERE
Tumblr media
As I graced the premiere of "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo," my choice of attire was nothing short of remarkable. I opted for an attention-grabbing white dress that perfectly accentuated certain features, and it was elegantly adorned with long black sleeves and other black accessories. The ensemble not only added a touch of sophistication but also ensured I stood out on the red carpet. With each step, I aimed to exude a sense of luxury and make a lasting impression on this extraordinary occasion.
Adding to the evening's grandeur, my current boyfriend, Taron, accompanied me to the premiere. We walked the red carpet together, turning heads and sharing the joy of the night as we posed for photos, basking in the attention.
What made this night even more remarkable was the fact that, in many ways, I felt like I was channeling Evelyn Hugo herself. The character I portrayed in the film had become a part of me, and walking the red carpet, adorned in my elegant attire, I couldn't help but embrace the essence of Evelyn's charm and charisma.
The premiere proved to be a resounding success on multiple fronts. Everyone in attendance couldn't help but appreciate not only my stunning appearance but also the outstanding performance I delivered in the film. It was a night filled with admiration and celebration, where the hard work and dedication that went into the project were recognized and celebrated.
The screening of "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo" with the guests in attendance was a true highlight. The room was filled with anticipation as the lights dimmed and the film unfolded on the big screen. The collective emotions, the laughter, and the occasional tear made it clear that the film had left an indelible mark on its audience.
Following the screening, we all gathered for a grand premiere party. As the night unfolded, we embraced the lively atmosphere, mingling with industry colleagues and friends, and enjoying a few too many drinks. Laughter and music filled the air, creating a warm and welcoming environment for all. The night was one to remember, marking not only the success of "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo" but also the camaraderie and joy that comes with celebrating a creative endeavor of this magnitude.
OSCARS 2023
Tumblr media
The Oscars in 2023 was a night I'll cherish forever, as I had the honor of being nominated for "Best Actress" for my portrayal of Evelyn Hugo. For this momentous occasion, I chose to wear a stunning black dress adorned with glitter in the short sleeves, paying homage to the timeless elegance of "Breakfast at Tiffany's." Adding to the allure, I accessorized with exquisite jewelry from Tiffany and Co., making sure to capture the essence of classic Hollywood glamour.
Accompanying me to the Oscars were two of the most important people in my life: my current boyfriend, Taron Egerton, and my father, Hugh Jackman. The red carpet was a family affair, filled with love, support, and shared anticipation.
The competition in the "Best Actress" category was nothing short of legendary. I found myself in the company of renowned actresses like Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Emily Blunt, and Cate Blanchett. The nomination alone was an incredible achievement, but little did I know that the night held something even more extraordinary in store.
As the awards ceremony unfolded, my heart raced with anticipation, and when my name was called as the winner of the Oscar for Best Actress, it was a moment of sheer elation. The recognition of my performance as Evelyn Hugo was a culmination of hard work, passion, and dedication to the craft of acting.
Following the awards, we all came together for a grand Oscar after-party, where we indulged in lively celebrations. Laughter, music, and perhaps a few too many drinks defined the night, making it a memorable and joyous occasion for all. It was an evening where we, the nominees and winners, set aside competition to come together and share the magic of the film industry, celebrating our collective achievements and the timeless art of storytelling.

I love your writing so much! Your Yuu OC is so cool and I am so obsessed with their energy <3
Writing request time~! Can I get some headcannons of Yuu visiting all of the twst clubs for the first time?
HI FRIEND! Sorry this took me so long to do! But ok, so I actually have this planned out as a chapter in my main story fic. So this is a perfect way to get it all written out for myself!
BUT ONTO THE ASK! MY YUU'S FIRST IMPRESSION OF THE NRC CLUBS!
BASKETBALL CLUB
Hi Jamil~ Flirty to the max, making him miss the shot he was trying to do
Isn't into sports in the slightest, but wanted to see what was offered at the school
Is honestly, too physical to play basketball, she'd be elbowing people in the ribs and Floyd would be supporting her
So for the safety of the other teams, Yuu was not allowed to join
Promises to come to the games to cheer for Jamil and Floyd (And Ace, but fuck him)
TRACK CLUB
Not a chance in hell. Boobs too big to be running around
Made fun of Deuce for thinking the school would have what is basically a motorcycle club
Did tell him it was a good choice of club since he wanted to be a cop in his future
Left the second Vargas showed up
BOARD GAMES CLUB
"Oh cool, Ortho's brother" "I have a name." "I don't care."
Liked the idea of the club, but couldn't see themselves actually joining. Enjoyed making Idia think they were gonna join
First meeting with Azul takes place here
Told them about the concept of 'The Game' and let that seed of chaos be planted into Idia's head to use against Azul at the most random of times (Sorry I made you lose UnU;)
EQUESTRIAN CLUB
"How much money does this school have?????"
Another they had no intention of joining but was really interested in watching
Later on, they help out with basic horse care if free time permits
Yuu: Wow this school really has whole-ass horses on campus? Silver: Silver: As opposed to??? Half-ass horses??? Yuu:
Yuu states only one 'Funny Bitch' can be in a club at a time and Silver clearly holds onto his title well
LIGHT MUSIC CLUB
HI KALIM!
If Yuu had a will for public performing this would be their club! sadly they don't so they didn't join officially.
Yuu still has their music library so they share their world's music with them a lot later on.
Not a member, but will pop in from time to time to do a jam session with them
Lilia gets her a shirt that says 'LMC #1 FAN' on the back as a gift
SPELL DRIVE CLUB
Another sport club that was interesting, but not something they'd do
Only goes to the games if dragged there by the other firsties but is an aggressive fan for Epel
Kepting asking Leona dumb questions because he was trying to sleep DURING TRYOUTS
Yuu likes the concept of Spell Drive, just doesn't have the care to really play or watch it
Has told Epel he should hit someone with his broom though
SCIENCE CLUB
Trey says 'No' with a smile
He's not TRYING to kill Yuu's budding passion for magical sciences, he's TRYING to protect the masses from the bioweapon they're probably gonna make on accident
Rook is so excited, he wants Yuu to join the club so badly
Trey knows Yuu will either make something that will actually kill someone or would drink something they're not supposed to on accident and die.
Yuu was not allowed to join the science club UnU
MOUNTAIN LOVERS CLUB
Honestly, feels so bad for Jade. Dude's clearly got a passion for his hobby and wants to share it with others
But also "Jade are you actually confused why no one wants to join your club and be alone with you in the fucking woods?????"
Not too excited for all the hiking the club seems to be (Interest is peaked at the opportunity to pet a bear though)
Promised Jade if they didn't find a club to join by the end of the day, they'd circle back and join his club
"I'm friends with your brother, you can't make me disappear that easily" "We'll see~"
FILM RESEARCH CLUB
What are you researching????
Honestly, the whole time just asked Vil questions in an attempt to frustrate him and point out how the club was a THEATER CLUB more than a Film Research club
Ends up joining because they ARE a theater club kid and is more than willing to take on the backstage work, that's their favorite part
Does end up being known as having infamously bad movie tastes and ended up traumatizing the whole club via trying to prove a point to Vil by sharing a movie from their world
OFFICIAL MEMBER OF THE FILM RESEARCH CLUB~!
GARGOYLE RESEARCH SOCIETY
Didn't know Malleus even had a club until he told her that night
Malleus didn't know the club fair was that day
Yuu shared their pint of depression ice cream with him while he pouted
Compromised in simply joining him on his walks or letting him info dump about a new gargoyle he found or his favored styles
Yuu will walk around abandoned areas themselves sometimes and take pictures to show Malleus to ask if he knows the gargoyle or not
