i think I finally picked up on something else that was annoying me about mockingjay. katniss spends so much of her life pushing away and rejecting the violence that perpetrates her society. when she found her prep team locked up, she felt empathy for them even though she had no reason to, she continually feels uncomfortable with and rejects the idea of killing others, and for gods sake her main goal in all of this was keeping her sister alive.
i’m not talking about the innocent she shot in the capitol (i think that had a different significance entirely) but the moment when she decides yes, they should continue to hold the hunger games, that is what lost me. she is so afraid of the cycle continuing and of her future children being reaped that she rejects marriage and children altogether in an attempt to keep more people from entering misery, but for some reason by the end of the third book she’s let all of those convictions go?
and that’s not even what i have the problem with. i would be upset with this no matter what, but the thing is this is never addressed again. she changes so much over the course of the third book alone in such an out of character way and then it’s never properly deconstructed or analyzed within the text. the book literally ends 2 chapters later and then it’s over and there’s an epilogue where she’s better now. that’s what i can’t stand. such an unbelievable change that is never given it’s proper backing. that’s what broke the fragile hold mockingjay had on me.

i do unironically think the best artists of our generation are posting to get 20 notes and 3 reblogs btw. that fanfic with like 45 kudos is some of the best stuff ever written. those OCs you carry around have some of the richest backstories and worldbuilding someone has ever seen. please do not think that reaching only a few people when you post means your art isn't worth celebrating.

I think we need to get more comfortable with the idea that sometimes shitty, racist, homophobic, bigoted people are still incredibly talented.
I feel like every time I see a post addressing someone’s shitty behavior the post also takes the time to mention that they’re not even good at [x] anyway. And that’s just not always true? Equating being good at a skill as being morally good is just not necessary. Someone can be a fantastic writer, can have a beautiful singing voice, can create breathtaking artwork, and still be a horrible person.
I know part of this is probably just the instinct to dislike everything about a person when you dislike them, but I also think this mindset leads to people defending creatives way past where they should, because if bad people create bad art, then if this person creates art that I like and resonates with me, then they can’t be a bad person!
And you know. That’s just not true. Those two things are simply completely unconnected and I think it’d be healthier if we all started disconnecting them in our heads.

there is something so darkly comical about tumblr potentially outliving twitter
tumblr, which is held together with duct tape and madness, run by three raccoons in blood stained Yahoo! hats and a handful of crabs, its only discernible source of income the sale of shoelaces from an inside joke so inside no one knows the original source anymore and fake blue checkmarks... that website still lives on
truly the cockroach of social media and I love it for that
