Longstar AU — Chapter Fourteen
Longtail was settled into his next, a gentle breeze filtering in through his thinner fur. He was sound asleep, comfortable and quiet. Though, his ears twitched at a rustle at the entrance.
He rasied his head to see a fluffy brown tail wading out of the den. His green eyes narrowed, his eyesight much fuzzier than it was when he would usually wake up—but he could see enough. He blinked a few times, clearing it so he could see better.
Longtail slowly got to his paws, padding out of the den with gentle paws. Though as he slipped out, so did this other cat. He lent over, picking up the scent trail of ThunderClan warrior Brambleclaw.
He swiftly trotted out of the camp, Brambleclaw’s scent fading a bit, but strong enough where he could follow it. And soon enough, he realized where it was leading.
“Tawnyfang!” Brambleclaw mewed, nuzzling his sister. Sure, the warrior had a harsh temper with an apprentice, but he was a well shaped warrior and loved his family. And, he was much better than his father, Longtail could give him that. “So, do you think the others will come?”
“I’m not sure.” Tawnyfang flicked her tail, “Lets hope they do, though.”
“.. Brambleclaw! Tawnyfang!” A sweet, soft voice filled his ears. “It’s good to see you! I’m happy It’s cats we know.” Feathertail flicked her bushy tail, her brother, Stormfur, padding in behind her.
“Was he chosen, too? They said one cat per clan.” Brambleclaw mewed, flattening his ears. Chosen? Chosen for what? Longtail thought with narrowed eyes. And whose gathering them here? StarClan..?
“No, he wasn’t. But he insisted on coming when I told him about my dream,” Feathertail smiled. “He didn’t want me meeting with random cats. But its only you two!”
“And me,” A raspy voice came from behind them, a small black cat with large ears and river blue eyes. “Crowpaw. WindClan.”
   Thats Deadfoot’s kit, Longtail thought.
“Than thats all of us?” Tawnyfang prompted.
“Nope!” A more high-pitched voice came from behind Brambleclaw, a small red and white she-cat appearing out of the bushes. “Squirrelpaw!”
Squirrelpaw! Longtail let out a hiss. Sneaking out of camp! What was she thinking?! He leapt out of the bushes, hissing at the small she-cat.
“L-longtail!” Squirrelpaw recoiled, flattening her ears tight to her skull. “What.. what are you..”
“I saw a warrior sneaking out of camp in the middle of the night,” He shot daggers at Brambleclaw, who recoiled as well, “I didn’t think one of my warriors would do this, without talking his leader. But my apprentice?” Longtail growled, “You’re all going to explain this. Now.”
“You’re not my deputy, or leader,” Crowpaw growled. “I dont have to listen to you.”
“I’m a deputy nonetheless,” Longtail hissed, glaring at the young apprentice. “And I happen to know your father quite well, Crowpaw. He wouldn’t be so happy if he heard about any of this.”
“Give him a little respect, Crowpaw.” Tawnyfang mewed, gazing at Longtail. “It’s nice to see you healed and still the same cat I knew while in ThunderClan.”
“.. Same to you, Tawnyfang. And a warrior, too.” Longtail mewed, curling his long tail around his paws. “So, explain.”
“We’ve.. each been getting these dreams, well, beside Stormfur.” The gray striped tom flicked his tail with a nervous smile. Brambleclaw mewed, “From StarClan. Telling us we had to meet here on the full moon, at midnight. That there would be others, and we’d be told what we have to do, or why we were getting these dreams in the first place.”
“You should have spoken to Firestar, or me, at the least.” Longtail sighed, “I have to tell him, you understand that.”
“I know,” Brambleclaw murmured. “But.. I thought that you wouldn’t understand it. That he wouldn’t let us go.”
“Of course he would understand!” Longtail hissed, “Firestar had dreams of StarClan when he was a warrior. And now he’s a leader guided by StarClan themselves. There’s no one who would understand more.”
“.. I-I suppose that’s right,” Brambleclaw mumbled, flattening his ears.
“Let’s go,” Longtail took a sharp breath, “And this isn’t the end of this for you, Squirrelpaw. You weren’t even chosen.. for whatever this is. I suggest the rest of you go back to your camps and talk to your leaders.” He narrowed his eyes, turning back toward camp with his clanmates in toe.
“.. Longtail?” Squirrelpaw mewed softly, her ears flattened, her tail tucked between her legs. “I-I’m sorry. I thought.. well, I-I don’t know what I thought. But—I’m sorry.”
Longtail sighed. “Maybe you had good intentions. Maybe you weren’t thinking.” He replied, glancing at her. “Either way, you shouldn’t have snuck out of camp. It’s dangerous out there at night for a barley trained apprentice, okay? I'll have to tell Firestar, and you'll receive punishment.”
“.. I.. understand.” She murmured, making a beeline for the apprentice den as they entered camp.
“.. What about me?” Brambleclaw murmured.
“I have to talk to Firestar about that.” Longtail replied, “I saw your intention, Brambleclaw. You were only following the will of StarClan; but there are people here who can help and rationalize these situations. Get some rest and we'll talk in the morning.”
Brambleclaw dipped his head, padding over to the warriors den. He slipped inside, beyond the bushes, a few warriors hissing and grumbling as he did so.
“Longtail?” A gruff, sleepy voice came from the entrance. He turned around, claws unsheathed, only to see Darkears standing there. “Relax. It’s me. What are you doing up?”
“I could say the same for you,” He replied, settling down in the soft sand beneath his paws.
“I went to the dirt place.” Darkears padded farther into camp. “And what about you, what’s your excuse?”
I can’t say anything til I talk to Firestar, Longtail thought, “I couldn’t sleep. I went for a stroll is all.”
“And why’s that?” Darkears raised an eyebrow.
“I don’t know,” Longtail mumbled. It wasn’t exactly a lie; the reason he'd woken up in the first place was because he was sleeping rather light. He was having trouble getting good sleep, ever since the rabbit attack and loosing his eyesight. Not being able to see as well put him.. on edge, half the time. “Ever since loosing my good eyesight I’ve been on edge.”
“You have no need to be, Longtail.” Darkears flicked his ear with his tail, “You have a clan behind you that would protect you if you came into trouble. If your eyesight was holding you back.” Darkears mewed softly, “But I think you're still that strong apprentice I trained all those moons ago.”
“I’m.. I-I’m not so sure,” Longtail flattened his ears. “I feel like I’m less of a warrior because of my eyesight. I don’t want others to have to protect me, I’m their deputy, I should protect them.”
“Don’t think like that.” Darkears gently lifted the tom's chin with his paw. “You're no less of a warrior. You're no less of a deputy, Longtail. Just because you need protecting sometimes doesn’t make you weak.” He smiled softly, “Now get some sleep, mouse-brain.” He gently nudged his shoulder, padding into the warriors den. Longtail let out a scoff, following the dark tabby tom into the den.
He watched as Darkears curled up beside Blacksight, the two toms snuggled up and comfortable in a nest. Darkears had reintegrated into the clan; he'd healed from Tigerclaw, he'd made his amends. He'd gotten a new mate, a happy, loving life once more. He was happy for him; he was apart of the clan again. And so was Longtail, deputy, a mate—expecting kits—it seemed like everything was so perfect.
   But he knew it wasn’t.

i have a feeling that this might be an unpopular opinion but i wanna give my two cents since it’s kinda been rattling around in my head for a bit.
essentially, i really don’t get the complaint of “crowfeather is a bad person and it always takes someone else to tell him that for him to realize that” that’s kinda widespread in the fandom at this point. essentially saying that most of the time, be it in aus or rewrites or just in canon, people complain that crowpaw/feather always needs someone else to tell him to get his head out of his ass instead of himself.
and like?? guys do you understand how self improvement begins?? usually by someone calling out your bullshit first.
now listen, the fandom can say that he’s terrible to women (in canon) all they want, i’m not gonna argue there bc it’s true lol
BUT i really don’t understand people who are saying “crowpaw/feather always has someone else (feathertail, leafpool, etc) initiate his self improvement, he never does it himself!” because the first step to self improvement is to listen to others so you know what to improve upon.
my best friend used to be a total ass but he eventually got told off by his friends and now he’s the most wonderful guy in my life. self improvement begins when other people tell you what you’re doing wrong, you internalize their advice, and act upon it.
usually when people envision crowpaw being told off to do better it’s probably from feathertail, meaning most envision a grown adult telling a teenager to knock it off w the asshole behavior. teenagers are allowed to be assholes then become better, guys 😭
again, this doesn’t apply to crowfeather canonically treats women poorly. and it’s not directed to anyone specifically.
it’s also not applicable to people who may argue “even if he gets told how to improve, he never acts upon it!” that’s your opinion and i’ll respect it yo! whether you feel like he actually improves or not is your perspective. but i say this doesn’t apply to that argument, regardless of if you think he does or doesn’t improve, because i’m only talking about step one, which is being told to knock it off w asshole behavior - how crowfeather proceeds w that confrontation is irrelevant to this rant bc the subject is my problem w people who think he, as an apprentice/teenager, should know better without anyone pointing it out to him.
tldr, i feel like people who think “crowpaw/feather should’ve known better than to be an asshole” without anyone directly talking to him about it are forgetting a crucial step in self improvement, which is to be told off in the first place to see what is being done wrong.

Hollykit from The New Prophecy. Hollykit is from ThunderClan. She is the daughter of Dustpelt and Ferncloud and born at the same time of her sister Larchkit and her brother Birchfall. She is a lively, curious kit and is found getting herself in trouble for her short time in the limelight. She passes soon after her sister, Larchkit, dies from starvation and her cause of death is Hypothermia. Shrewpaw later dies the same day. It’s said Shrewpaw looks over them from StarClan (Info gained from the wiki)
It’s been so long,,,,, because my chronic illnesses have loved kicking me in the ARSE. But I’m back! Probably not consistently and I doubt a lot of people are that bothered but I enjoy posting so it’s not that big of a deal!
Anyways, like every warrior cat fan ever I’m finally doing the required design posts. Except I put every single warrior cat character (1347, minus a few two-legs who I couldn’t be bothered to remove) into a random spinner and I’m gunna draw whoever comes up! And first up is Hollykit from The New Prophecy!! Imagine being Fern and Dust or even Birch. Your sister dies then very soon after your other sister passes away and then that same day your brother gets hit by a car trying to feed the clan. Then your mother cries that she wishes she died instead.
Need more Birch lovers, he’s got such a great story! Wish they wrote him interacting more lovingly to his daughters because I’d image he’d be protective of them after what he went through.
If I had to explain my design I obviously made her very spiky and just scruffy because of the Holly prefix and I gave her a lighter brown than what the wiki suggests because of Holly flowers! You can kinda see it but there’s a flower marking on her back. I was gunna show that to the side but I completely forgot lol.
I’m gunna be derailing from cannon a bit as well with the designs. It’s just more fun than drawing the same genetically accurate dark brown tabby with amber eyes 70 times over. Anyways, hope you like this! Bye bye!!!
Commissions are open! Dm me for more info!

I love how Squilf's introduction to the series is written. Imagine it like she's introducing herself in the beginning of an early 2000's high school movie.
"My name's Squirrelpaw! Firestar's daughter, eight moons old, recently apprenticed--and the biggest nuisance in ThunderClan. This is my story! *radical electric guitar shredding plays*"

Longstar AU — Chapter Nineteen
“ThunderClan.” A voice growled, black fur peeking out from behind the grass. “What are you doing here?”
“We’ve come to speak with Deadfoot,” Firestar dipped his head to the smaller she-cat.
“Deadstar, you mean?” The she-cat slipped from behind the grasses, “He’s my mentor, I would know.”
“Ah, yes…” Firestar murmured, adverting his gaze from her blazing orange one. “Nightpaw, than?”
“Yes.” Her eyes narrowed, “I can guide you to camp, if it’s so urgent you must speak with him.”
“That would be nice,” Longtail meowed, the she-cat glancing at him. Nightpaw rolled her eyes, beginning to lead the deputy and leader pair toward the WindClan camp.
“Nightpaw, you can’t just leave before your warrior ceremony—!” Onewhisker hissed, his eyes narrowed. “Oh! Firestar.” The brown tabby tom dipped his head, “What are you doing here?”
“We’ve come to speak with Deadstar.” Firestar mewed, “It’s urgent.”
“I’m sure it is,” Deadstar padded up behind Onewhisker, nodding to the tom. He and his apprentice padded back into camp. “Especially if you're coming yourself.”
“Yes, it really is,” Firestar nodded. “Twolegs.. they’re..—they’re taking their monsters into our part of the forest. They're destroying it, and it seems they’re headed for our camp.”
   “.. I see.” Deadstar murmured.
“We’ve come to ask for shelter in your camp,” Longtail spoke up, Firestar flattening his ears.
“I’m sure we can offer you shelter until this is figured out.” Deadstar dipped his head. “Myself and my warriors will have no problem with it.”
“Are you sure about this, Deadstar?” Mudclaw popped up behind him, eyeing the ThunderClan leader and deputy. “Do we have enough resources for that?”
“I’m sure we do, Mudclaw. Our moor is always plentiful, and so are our herbs. Barkface and Kestrelpaw will be fine welcoming your medicine cats, as well.” Deadstar twitched his whiskers.
“Yes, and welcoming another leader and deputy won’t cause any problems,” Mudclaw hissed.
“.. So you’ve been named deputy, than?” Firestar mewed.
“Yes. Is that so unbelievable, Firestar?” He growled.
“I didn’t mean it like that, I—“ Firestar paused, taking a few steps backward.
“He didn’t, Mudclaw, back down.” Deadstar growled, casting a glare at his deputy. “Go and gather your clan, Firestar. We'll be waiting to greet you when you arrive.”
“Thank you, Deadstar,” Firestar dipped his head, turning back toward ThunderClan territory. Longtail and his leader traipsed through the territory, arriving back at Sunningrocks.
“Prepare yourselves. We’re going to WindClan camp.” Longtail rose his voice to the whole clan, his green eyes narrowed. “Kits, elders, medicine cats—make sure everything is prepared.”
“It already is,” Cinderpath twitched her whiskers. “Leafpaw and I'll start our way over there after everyone else. I just need to get what’s left of the herbs in our camp.” The gray color-point she-cat nodded to her apprentice, turning back toward the camp.
“The rest of you follow Longtail, than,” Firestar meowed. “Myself, Sandstorm and Graystripe will get elders and queens.”
Longtail nodded, resting his gaze on Blizzardspots. The she-cat gave him a gentle nod and a smile, the tom quickly returning it. He turned back toward WindClan territory, the warriors and apprentices of the clan following close behind. They weaved through trees, hopped across small rivers, and jumped over rocks. And soon they arrived at WindClan camp.
“Longtail.” Deadstar greeted once more, “Right in here, everyone.” The black tom flicked his tail, turning into his camp. The group of ThunderClan cats followed.
“I really have to thank you, Deadstar,” Longtail dipped his head. “Our other option was Leopardstar… and, well, you know how that would go.”
His whiskers twitched, “I do,” Deadstar smiled softly. “And it wouldn’t be well. We’re happy to host you while things aren’t safe in the forest,” He meowed, hopping atop of the Wind Rock. “Cats of WindClan! ThunderClan will be staying in our camp until further notice. I expect my cats treat them as guests, and with respect. Understand?”
Though meows of discontent and discomfort could be heard, most cats didn’t seem to have a real issue with it. Some greeted the ThunderClan cats with friendly meows, some not. But it didn’t seem to bother most.
A familiar scent flooded his nose, whipping his head around to the WindClan camp entrance.
   Brambleclaw, Squirrelpaw!
He rushed toward the two cats, Firestar sliding in behind them. As well as smaller black tom which he knew as Crowpaw.
“Crowpaw!” Deadstar rushed up behind them, nuzzling his son, “What happened? Where have you been?”
“D-dad!” Crowpaw hissed. “Knock it off..”
“Okay, okay,” Deadstar purred. “Now, explain.” He hissed, his eyes narrowing.
“We went to the Sun-Drown place.” Brambleclaw responded, “To meet a badger, named Midnight. She gave us some.. information.” The tom's ears flattened, adverting his gaze from the WindClan leaders.
“What kind of information?” Deadstar growled, flattening his ears.
“The badger said something bad was going to happen to the forest.” Crowpaw flattened his large ears to his head, “That something was destroying it.”
   “The twolegs,” Firestar murmured.
“Yes.” Brambleclaw sighed, “And.. and she said we had to leave.”
“Leave the forest?” Longtail growled, “How can we possibly do that? Where do we even go?”
“She said to head for the mountains.” Brambleclaw replied, “Are.. are we going to go?”
“Well, I’m not sure,” Firestar mumbled. “I’m not even sure the other clans would believe you. Or the other clans. Though, we'll speak to them at tomorrows gathering.”
“.. Do you believe us, Dad?” Squirrelpaw mewed, her gaze slowly shifting to Longtail, “Longtail?”
“Of course I believe you.” Firestar gently nuzzled his daughter, “And I’m sure Longtail does as well. I myself have had my run-ins with StarClan, prophecies, missions, what have you. I have no reason to think you're lying.” He shook his head, “I’m not sure the other clans will believe you, though, like I’ve said.”
“Yes.” Deadstar narrowed his eyes slightly, “I believe you, as well. And if the time comes we will follow you out of the forest. But, I’m not sure RiverClan and ShadowClan will be so proud to do so.”
