Fieldwork Observations: #0334 - Altaria
I've been studying a population of Altaria in the Lental region on Voluca Island. The Lental region is known for its biodiversity, and since it is a protected region, wildlife is able to flourish freely! I was lucky enough to be able to conduct research in the area recently, and my findings have been very interesting.
Altaria (Avicaelus nubilus) are typically found in high altitude mountainous environments. The temperature in their usual habitat tends to be quite cool—their thick, cloud-like plumage protects them from the cold temperatures. In Lental, however, there's a population of Altaria that lives near these hot springs located outside Fireflow Volcano.
Tumblr media
I've never seen an Altaria swim before, so this was very interesting! I didn't know they could float like that... This means they likely have the same preen gland that most aquatic bird Pokémon have.
Their feathers are adapted to keep the moisture from clouds from absorbing in their feathers while also being extremely buoyant. Having a preen gland would help keep them extra protected, since the oil secreted from the preen gland is waterproof. Altaria aren't commonly found swimming, but given their buoyancy and waterproof plumage, it makes sense that they are able to float on water.

Lental Logs 01, Ecosystem of Lental
Lental is an archipelago consisting of four primary island groups. Each island has its own distinct climate and ecosystem. Very few species of Pokemon are found common between islands. Magikarp and Vivillon being the exception, populations of both have been identified on all major islands. My time spent here will be on three of these islands.
The Maricopia Islands are a small island chain that resides above a reef. Most studies here do not focus on the islands themselves, but rather the aformentioned reef and surrounding underwater ecosystem. Notably, the seafloor reaches extreme depths in certain areas. This provides unique oppurtunities for deep sea explorations.
Voluca Island is defined by its volcanic activity. The Fireflow Volcano is an active volcano located to the island's east. To the west are deserts are canyons. Due to the lack of plant life on the island, the species here are highly predatory.
Durice Island is the largest of the islands. It is an arctic desert, consisting of heavy glacial activity and frigid temperatures. The extreme cold here lends itself to Ice type Pokemon. However, other species less adjusted to the frigid temperatures find themselves in the expansive Outaway cave system. Spanning a large area of the western mountain range, Outaway cave is a sprawling cave system stretching deep underground. Interestingly, there is an area of the cave covered in significant amounts of flora. It is believed the light from the rare diamonds here, the same ones that attract the legendary Pokemon Diancie, were able to stimulate the growth of plant life.

New Pokémon Snap - Free content update trailer
The free content update for New Pokémon Snap will launch on August 3, 2021.
This update adds three new areas with day & night version (Kakure Loophole,Yo-Yo River,Karari Wilderness) and 20 new Pokémon added
Overview
Get ready for even more adventures in New Pokemon Snap! Starting August 3 at 6:00 p.m. PT / 9:00 p.m. ET, players with an internet connection can download a free content update that will include beautiful, new areas to visit—plus 20 additional Pokemon to discover.
Three stunning new areas will be available to explore:
Secret Side Path (Day / Night) – The NEO-ONE shrinks to a tiny size when you explore this area, so the Pokémon you see will look gigantic! You can even hear their breathing and footsteps in this thrilling area, and you might spot new kinds of behavior from Pokémon youve seen before.
Mightywide River (Day / Night) – Mightywide River is a nurturing water source that provides the whole of Belusylva Island with sustenance. You’ll be conducting research as you ride down the river, so be on the lookout for rapids as you search for Pokémon, and keep your camera ready so you don’t miss capturing them in action.
Barren Badlands (Day / Night) – In this area, you’ll research the badlands of Voluca Island, where dry winds from the desert blow. This area has many peculiar features, from geysers to poisonous, gas-spewing swamps. Pokémon may be hiding underground or in the rocky cliffs, so keep your eyes peeled for them while you’re on your expedition.
Across the three new areas, players will find a variety of Pokemon, including those already familiar from players’ journey across the Lental region as well as 20 more Pokemon that couldn’t be found before.

I went into the new Illumina Spot on the Voluca Island and saw the Illumina Pokemon. It was a Volcarona and two of them! I didn’t get any usable pictures because it had the flames around it. When I got out the Professor said that throwing fluffruits at it could help.

New Pokemon Snap: All Pokemon in the Game by Region
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
New Pokemon Snap brings the ’90s N64 classic to the Nintendo Switch, this time with tons of new features and Pokemon to photograph. In fact, gamers who played the original back in 1999 will be left dumbfounded by the sheer amount of Pokemon there are to capture in this game. While the first game only featured 63 of the original 151 creatures from Pokemon Red and Blue, New Pokemon Snap has a whopping 214 pocket monsters to find across several regions.
Sure, that’s just a wee bit short of the 893 total Pokemon created by Nintendo since 1996, and there will undoubtedly be some players who will find the lack of certain creatures less than ideal, especially after the Sword and Shield fiasco. But for the rest of you photographers, there will be plenty of camera-ready Pokemon for you to discover, including quite a few from the original list of 151.
If you want to photograph all of the Pokemon in the game, you’ll likely want to know who to look for and where. Below, you’ll find a list of all the Pokemon you’ll need to snap in order to complete your Photodex.
