Batman: The Animated Series - Paper Cut-Out Portraits and Profiles
Zatara
One of the greatest stage acts of his day, Giovanni Zatara was a master magician and escape artist who amazed audiences all over the world. Zatara was approached by a young Bruce Wayne who was in the midst of his journey toward becoming The Batman. Under the alias of 'John Smith,' Bruce sought out Zatara and pleaded with him to teach him the craft of escape artistry.
Bruce had no interest in being a stage performer and Zatara was able to see this. Yet he admired and identified with the young man’s passion. As such, he taught Bruce everything he knew of the craft. This even included secrets he had never shared with any other colleague or apprentice he had to that point.
The only other person Zatara shared these secrets with was his daughter, Zatanna. After his death, Zatanna assumed her father's role and continued his show. It is unknown if Zatara ever knew that his former pupil had gone on to become Batman, yet Zatanna was able to put the matter together. She shared with Batman that her father would have been proud of him.
Actor Vincent Schiavelli provided the voice for Giovanni Zatara with the master magician appearing in the in the fiftieth episode of the first season of Batman: The Animated Series, ‘Zatanna.’
To be honest, the pottery scene is kinda underwhelming. Patrick was just mindlessly fiddling his hands. What could have been more impactful, is if they did the scene while Patrick was a ghost.
