stupid poop crown post got me thinking, what is your headcannon about Magolor’s experience with the crown anyways? or does the fic pretty much summarize it?
Love that “stupid poop crown post got me thinking” is a series of words that have been said now. Language is a weapon and in a collective sense we are simultaneously very good at using it and very unskilled with it.
Anyways, I’d say the fic doesn’t really summarize it much at all, aside from the few explicit details given about what happened. Part of what made it so unnerving and traumatic for Magolor is the simple fact that, during his power trip, he didn’t realize anything was wrong. There was no second voice in his head telling him what to do, there was no immediate forceful possession; the switch from his goal being taking over Halcandra to being world domination just felt natural— indistinguishable from any other time he’d changed his mind about something. The Crown was able to manipulate him so easily, convinced him that its desires were his own, gave no indication that it was anything more than a power source. Sure, his head hurt where it dug its claws in, and not being able to easily take it off was certainly not ideal, but that’s just bad artifact design, not an obvious sign of something more sinister lurking out of sight! If he had infinite power he could just make it not do that.
Only when he had been beaten a little over half to death did he notice it wasn’t just his own mind in his head, because he wanted to stop fighting and try to bargain, but his body wouldn’t listen. That was more or less the point where he realized something was very, very wrong, but the extent to which things were wrong wasn’t immediately obvious then. It was when it wrestled full control away from him that it became clear he’d fucked up immensely, but by that point it was too late for him to really fend it off; it caught him by complete surprise. All he could really do was just try to resist becoming yet another soul lost to it and hope to last long enough for his body that wasn’t really his own anymore to be incapacitated, but that hinged on the very people he’d used as pawns in his scheme being powerful enough to defeat the entity he’d unwittingly allowed to manifest.
Then of course you have the events of the Epilogue, where he was eventually greeted with the unfortunate discovery that the Crown had more or less survived and was seeking out another host. He’d been pretty scared it would try to possess him again, but in not being at full strength he was simultaneously too weak to have been able to maintain himself as a separate person and too weak to be of any interest to it. At that point it was simply operating based on what the strongest magic sources it could reach were so it could have an unbroken vessel once more. Its relation to the Crowned Doomer is very headcanon-y in that I see them as different forms of the same entity. The Master Crown is full of souls bound by corrupted soul magic, but souls in Another Dimension eventually become Doomers once enough magic binds to them, with the strength of the initially formed Doomer being decided by the strength of the soul(magic) they form from. They can become stronger by consuming other sources of magic, be it energy spheres or each other, but that’s a tangent. Point is, the Crown itself was very unstable at that point and briefly became a sort of Grand Doomer, but when Magolor brought forth the gem apple sapling, he basically handed it a very powerful source of magic that it could anchor itself to.
Thus it stabilized, turned the new host into a body more to its liking, set out to kill the one that had resisted it and survived, but was ultimately defeated* by the magic catboy. Except he kinda died of magic overexertion and his injuries afterwards, but also didn’t, and going through the portal to the Dream Kingdom therefore simultaneously did and didn’t happen. Basically, death and dreams in Another Dimension is fucking weird, and the circumstances of his death were such that he basically performed the world’s first recorded soul duplication glitch without actually knowing it. One him successfully went through the portal, which was born of his dream/desire of starting over in a new life where he could try again influenced by his knowledge and experiences, which created a branch of the timeline and the “real” Dream Kingdom. The other him ended up dying, but was found and guided by Morpho Knight, which would lead to him and Lor’s meeting as described in the fic.
*I just thought I’d have fun and emphasize this bit here for anyone keeping up with the fic, won’t elaborate on why though :) its a secret
Got very ramble-y there and probably off topic, but basically his experience with the Crown was traumatic in a different way than it is in his nightmares. What fucked him up was just that he didn’t even know it was there, he doesn’t know what thoughts were and weren’t his after he put it on, it was able to render him powerless in his own body so easily. It didn’t speak to him, it was manipulative in a manner that was so different and so much more sinister than the way another person might be. It scares him to think about it; he sees himself as someone who doesn’t fall for lies because he’s usually the liar. The Crown not only violently proved he wasn’t immune, it did so flawlessly while literally digging its talons into his head— it hurt him and yet he was willing to make excuses to keep wearing it, and he doesn’t know if those excuses were his own or it telling him what to think.
When you’ve built up your identity around knowing about ancient history and artifacts and thinking you’re a genius who can’t be lied to, and had built up your dreams around being powerful, there are few things that will shake you to your core quite like being made to see you didn’t know what you were getting into, were easily made to believe things you shouldn’t have, and could have your power stripped away by something you sought out for yourself.

Elfilin + Reader (plus = platonic)
It was a crisp morning in waddle dee town. Birds were singing, pop flowers were blooming, on days like these, sweethearts like Elfilin should be out making new friends.
Said ultimate life form was currently at the cafe, enjoying a scrumptious kirby burger. Then you showed up at that same cafe and sat down next to him.
Elfilin looked up and paled slightly, you were human like the captors of his original form! But he, the compassionate soul, always wanted to make peace with your kind.
He had already met Adeline, who was very kind and didn’t do any testing, and he loved the waddle dees, who (in the author’s headcanon) were transformed humans. But you weren’t a waddle dee, and you were an adult, unlike Adeline but like the scientists at lab discovera, so he got a little scared anyway. Making it a little worse was the closed-off, scary look you had that he knew was probably just your default face.
You were still eating your car-kirby cake and hadn’t really noticed him yet, but he wanted to talk to you - partly to soothe his own fears - so he asked how your cake was.
You looked up and the ominous expression you had vanished into something much more calm and smiley as you replied to him, “Oh it’s pretty good, thanks for asking.”
He breathed a sigh of relief. You then went back to your treat though, so later he’d tell Kirby about you because he would probably know who you were, being much more social than him - and considering your species was supposed to be extinct except for Adeline, everyone would have to know about you by now.
When he got home to Kirby’s house in waddle dee town, he quickly asked, “Do you know about the human who was just at the cafe earlier? I didn’t know anyone came to the town recently.”
“Oh, that must’ve been y/n! I found them asleep on the ground outside last night while I was looking for a place to go stargazing, then they woke up and got a little freaked out. We talked for a bit and they told me they were sleeping in bed just a second ago and didn’t know where they were. So I told them about this place. They seemed sad and scared about not knowing how to get home though, so I told them about the cafe, where they slept for the rest of the night. Don’t worry, I left a note explaining who they were to cafe waddle dee.” Kirby answered his question, excited for one of his friends to meet another one of his friends.
Knowing Kirby was trusting of you let Elfilin relax. (he doesn’t know about Marx and Magolor lol)
Kirby realized something. “Hey! I should go check on them! I’ve gotta make sure they’re okay after last night. Wanna come with?” He reached his nub to Elfilin, waiting for him to take it. Elfilin, the ever-compassionate soul, took the nub and in no time at all, they were off to the cafe.
You were staring through a window at the cafe, studying the landscape and noting how different it was from Earth. The shock of waking up in a new world still hadn’t left. Would it ever? Hopefully you could return soon… maybe the next time you fell asleep? You did arrive in your sleep after all.
You were starting to cry, thinking about the probable possibility you would never see your loved ones again. When you asked that pink puff, Kirby, he seemed sure that you’d find a way back quickly. He could’ve been white lying though! What if he was?! You sniffled and sobbed, still turned away from the rest of the cafe. You could hear the waddle dee in charge of this establishment say “Wanya…” sadly at your predicament.
Up at the counter where that dee was seated, Kirby and Elfilin arrived. Kirby asked them where you were, and they pointed to you, curled up near the window in the back. The pink hero and his teal sidekick gasped at how sad you looked and rushed over immediately. You turned to them slowly, bearing a tear-streaked, somewhat angry face. Not mad at them, of course.
“Hey, we’re worried about you.” Kirby said with a sad expression. “Wanna come to our house? We can play board games.” Elfilin continued, patting your back.
Later that day, all three of you were napping at Kirby’s house. You’d find a way home someday, you were sure of it! For now though, this was more than fine~

This is for the send me a character thing, how about Marx? Cool little jester he is
Huh he hasn't been tackled yet has he. First impression: I was really young when I played SS so I honestly don't even remember if I got to Milky Way Wishes, so I'm skipping a couple years ahead to when Deltarune happened and you saw fanart of Jevil, Marx, Dementio, and maybe Jokah everywhere. So Marx was a Kirby character I was vaguely familiar with that was in a lot of Deltarune fanart. Oh and he among with Gooey and Ado/Ribbon I remember having the biggest fanfare during the Star Allies dlc waves. Impression now: I think he and DDD are peak "I really really like this character and it doesn't get any more complicated than that". Favorite moment: I still don't get this one, the "prank" is that the cakes are edible but like,,,,, no one is being made a fool they just get to eat cake????? Fantastic 10/10.
Tumblr media
Idea for a story: I only ever see him as a trickster type who's only motivation is to never be bored. Unpopular opinion: This is def not unpopular but I'm using this to say it is weird he hasn't been in the novels yet. Like I've made it clear I do not like them, but I still feel really bad for Marx fans regardless. He is like, maybe 7th place for most amount of merch (ignoring basic enemies and lumping the animal friends together I'm being very generous here) and also has shown up in manga and other books so I don't know why the light novels refuse to touch him. I get that most adaptations he just wasn't relevant to the plot, but even when he's in the Pupupu Train and Starlight Theatre merch lines he doesn't show up in their novel tie-ins. The only explanation I can come up with is that the novels are supposed to be these (mostly) faithful adaptations meant to advertise the series, and they are just very picky with how Marx should be portrayed in the more """"serious"""" media. Marx is also a very video game-y character, I think they might be worried over screwing him up in a more story heavy medium. With more light hearted silly media where liberties are expected, the twitter, merchandise, comedic stories, etc, then it's okay to use Marx because those aren't supposed to be taken too literally anyways. Or maybe the novels are planning a big fancy story dedicated to him, who knows! rip ado too man Favorite relationship: I already talked about him with Magolor but I did use to like that fanon group that included those two as well as Taranza and Gryll. Over time when I became more familiar with the characters I became more interested in other pairings, but Gryll has little canon personality to speak of so hello headcanon fodder! I like to think Gryll is so comically chill they wouldn't even care if Marx tried to take over the planet and are good buddies as a result. Favorite headcanon: Another filthy gamer.

ok hopefully this doesn’t end in warfare but out of all of the kirby characters, who would you guys date/who would you be most attracted to?
Mod Susie: I’m aroaspec, but i’m love womens... I might have to go with Zan. Pretty thunder lady. I like her voice and I draw her as a human the most. I am NOT a susie kin do not EVEN start I just like her general aesthetic deal, y'know? Flamberge is also a good choice because she's fun and valid (unlike Zan, who is cancelled) and I like the fluffy hair. Just gimme a mage sister I guess!
Mod Taranza: hoo boy. As a person who is polyamorous, panromantic, and has traits they admire in most if not all characters, this is tough. But if I have to narrow it down, I’d say my top four are Meta Knight, Taranza/Morpho, Magolor, and Zan Partizanne. I’ll elaborate on why once I get back into ranking the characters
Mod Gooey: I’m aroace and I don’t do the romance thing, but if you were threatening my life I’d have to go with Claycia. Claycia is a very talented artist (like me :3), has a pleasing colour palette, seems like she’d give great hugs, and her laugh---Have you heard her laugh?
It’s adorable! And (spoilers) Claycia also seems brave, smart, and kind-hearted too, putting herself between Elline and Dark Crafter, and thinking quick when the real villain attempts to make a smooth getaway.
Honourable mentions include that one NPC who yeets Gordos in KDL3, and Taranza.
Mod Lor: So anyone who knows me from the original quotes blog already knows one of my answers is Nova, and I am in denial over that still so I’m not even gonna try to defend myself. So I’ll share my other answer which is Lor(big surprise I know). Sure, she’s a boat and has no canon personality or anything that’s important, BUT: what Kirby character exists that doesn’t require a little bit of headcanon to become fleshed out? And yeah sure Lor needs a lot of headcanons to become what I imagine her to be like, but whatever, I have time and weird taste so that doesn’t matter. What does matter is her objective benefits. Lor can take you just about anywhere, so long as it isn’t indoors. Who hasn’t wanted to go to space before? Lor can let you live that dream. And, for the people like me who don’t like hugs or making eye contact, that problem is irrelevant here. Need a safe environment to exist in for a little while? Lor has you covered. Wanna visit friends that are far away? Distance isn’t a problem when your partner can warp wherever you guys want. And, lastly, it’s free minigames.
Mod Galacta:  i am questioning if i'm aro or ace spec but, uh, i guess it'd be neat to hang out with mk, gk, taranaza, or bandee?  -meta has dad energy and chill vibes when not fighting for your life against him. -galacta knight (at least my version of him) is still very competitive though after spending many years in the crystal prison, only being released to fight rarely, decides to get more non-fighting based hobbies and relax more after getting released. probably be very nice to hang out with when (again) not being challenged to a fight.  -i don't now that much about taranza but he'd probably want to talk about gardening, play games and drink tea? honestly very good friend vibes.  -bandana is just friend shaped and i love them,, they deserves every good thing that comes their way
Mod Ribbon:  i actually had a HUGE crush on Ribbon when I was little, appropriately enough lmao. i'd also have to say MK is very cute/handsome and Dedede is EXTREMELY sexy and they both deserve many kisses. Sectonia is also stunning (bonus for magic and swords and being generally cool) but I don't think I'd ever want to date her because on top of the blindingly obvious caveats I am e x t r e m e l y spheksophobic

HC of the Day: @eidolon-inchwyrm HOO BOI. Y E S. This is a very valid headcanon, and asdfjklfd I’d be damned if this isn’t true. Also, by major antagonists, I hope you include villain-turned-ally Dream Friends, like Marx, Magolor, and Dark Meta Knight, because you just got a one-way ticket to angst land, my friend.
He’d just wanted a friend, someone to relate to. Was that so wrong? Kirby may have had Meta Knight and Dedede and Bandanna Dee, but he would never say no to another potential friend in need. The puff stared off into the sky, morosely reminiscing about Marx and his betrayal. Sure, Kirby may have always seemed so happy-go-lucky, but that didn’t mean the former villain’s actions hadn’t hurt him. As he gazed into the sky, Kirby’s feelings of doubt and hate grew.
~-~-~-
Seeing Dark Meta Knight and Susie again brought painful memories back into Meta Knight’s head, memories he’d rather not live through again. First, the Mirror World came into his mind, especially the colosseum that was next to the castle. How many times had he been forced to fight the huge monsters that had been held there, with only the soothing voice of Galaxia to heal him of his cuts and bruises? There had been at least twenty of them, and more than a hundred times where he’d been thrown into the walls. That particular memory faded into a more recent one, one where Susie inserted drill bits and screws and wisps of code into his brain. Turned into a relentless robot and forced to fight Kirby, Meta Knight still remembered the sheer pain from his first defeat- the fall, the wind getting knocked out of him, the agonizing shocks of electricity that wouldn’t stop no matter how much he screamed. No, he couldn’t face them again. Not with how much they had hurt him.

happy 4/13! have some kirby classpect headcanons.
kirby - rogue of heart meta knight - knight of blood dedede - ?? of rage galacta knight - witch of time nova - sylph of light marx - prince of space gooey - page of void ado - seer of space susie - thief of light bandana dee - sylph of breath
(explanations under the cut)
kirby - could fit many aspects (blood, hope, life, even void) but imma say rogue of heart. he steals people’s identities (powers, that is) through his copy abilities, but always does it for the good of his friends (since rogue is passive). he’s got lots of emotions and goes off gut instincts, can sometimes be self-centered, and also has splinter selves, like dirk. and, like nepeta, he cares about the relationships between his friends!
meta knight - knight of blood. (though i also considered heart and void) meta is a leader through and through, and though he seems aloof he cares a lot about the well-being of his friends and his crew. he even has an attack in robobot where he summons his entire crew to help him fight! he’s stubborn and charismatic, and he is concerned about his relationships with other people and what they think of him. his character arc feels a bit like karkat too, learning to lean back and work with his friends more instead of trying to take them over, and doing stuff for others rather than just for himself (though as a knight he keeps a lot of his independence). the blood-bound also seem very concerned with honor, as meta definitely is. knights (at least in my interpretation) are about exploitation of their aspect, and are especially prone to forcing themselves into active roles while they are actually more passive, kind of like how meta fights for himself and against kirby at first but then learns to work with him. the knight class fits my interpretation of him feeling aloof but on the inside really caring for his crew and others.
in my opinion, both heart and blood are concerned with relationships, but in different ways. heart is more about personal relationships with and between close friends and the like (as we see with nepeta and meulin), while blood takes into account social dynamics and bigger picture stuff (which kankri tries to do and does wrong). like, one way meta could manifest blood is through his focus on honor, justice, fairness, chivalry, all that. whereas kirby, who’s heart, obviously has to look at the bigger picture, but what really drives him to go on adventures is doing things for other people specifically, like helping ribbon or magolor.
dedede - rage. rage is all about emotion, passion, stubbornness, conviction, which dedede fits pretty well. he plays by his own rules, and just turns up and declares himself leader one day! in my observation, rage players often get their power from external rather than internal sources, and are most powerful when they’re not themselves, which would fit with how much dedede gets possessed, and also how he’s more powerful as masked dedede. being a primary antagonist, he also induces rage! his class is stumping me though - i was thinking thief because of how he steals food but that doesn’t really work with rage...
galacta knight - witch of time. he’s a temporal warrior, of course he’s time! time is also about destruction, and nothing says destruction more than star dream’s line about galacta casually destroying planets. witches are able to actively manipulate reality, like galacta does a lot in his fights - for example, tearing open spacetime.
nova - sylph of light. light is about knowledge and luck. nova has a lot of both of these things - luck in the form of wishes. they are destroyed a lot but always seem to reform. sylphs create things for others, which definitely reminds me of how nova creates luck for others by granting their wishes.
marx - prince of space. his classpect is somewhat of a paradox (like him!) because it involves the destruction of creation and destruction through creation. he is super destructive, being a prince, and is able to destroy space by creating literal black holes. the whole way in which he dies, destroys nova, and is reformed feels super prince of space-y. he also fights kirby on this whole new plane of existence?? which is pretty space-y? as is his whole transformation. space is also connected to patience, which, while that might not seem all that marx-like at first, he does get the sun and moon to fight and is willing to wait for kirby to complete the entire milky way wishes quest before achieving his goal.
gooey - page of void. void obviously refers to gooey being dark matter, and his mysterious nature there. he’s also subject to obfuscations himself, since he’s often really ignorant of everything around him and doesn’t really know much about anything! pages have a lot of potential but it’s often hard to tell right off the bat, and their powers don’t always manifest in obvious ways. gooey seems like an irrelevant coop character, but he’s already fairly powerful in his own right, since he has many of the same abilities as kirby does. (you might even call copy abilities void-y—you just kinda suck enemies into the void huh?? and one theory says that void is about infinite potential which works with those abilities...) and as a sidekick, he fits the literal meaning of page as well.
ado - seer of space. space is about creation, and she can literally draw things and have them come to life - that is very space-y! seers understand things and guide others, like ado does a lot for kirby in 64, but are powerful in their own right and i don’t doubt that a seer of space could do some wacky creation stuff. also seer seems like a class that would be tied to drawing because you have to see stuff to draw it right..
susie - thief of light. she steals (or intends to steal) information, she has lots of luck, and she lies a bunch (lies to you about the origin of mecha knight and to haltmann about her intentions) which is kinda like stealing correct info from another person. she also is tied to prosperity, which is light-related.
bandana dee - sylph of breath. he is very flexible, a definite hero, supporting his friends a bunch like john does. his spear also feels like a breath weapon, given how light it is and how he can fly with it. he can also jump on air in krtdl, which seems more manipulative of the air than meta or kirby’s flying, since it doesn’t seem like he should be able to fly. (also, blue bandana…) he’s a sylph because he creates for the sake of his friends - because he’s a supporting character he creates flexibility for them, and stalls kirby for dedede in super star. sylphs are also associated with healing, which is basically his whole role in robobot - giving kirby healing items!

Too much drinking
Magolor: Y-you're soft and round like a ball. If you're a ball that makes me... ... ... a-an egg... Taranza: PffffffHAHAHAHAHA Egg! He's an egg! He said it!! HAHAHA- I want an omelette. HAHAHA- Marx: Heeheehee... keep drinking you idiots.
More info and links under the cut.
A very common Kirby headcanon is that these three are good friendos. I like to think that Magolor and Taranza are BFFs while Marx is the third friend. Not that Marx cares. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯  Marx was the one who made the other two get their asses drunk as heck with the excuse of "drowning their sorrows" (The only one who would "need" it is Taranza tbh). I headcanon Marx as an underage being so he's drinking a proper orange soda, but the question here is: What are Marx's plans? I have no idea tbh. (>ᗜ<) I just had this flash pic in my mind about these three drinking together and I drew it.

Assorted screenshots of my thoughts/ideas and a doodle related to RtDD. Contains minor to major spoilers, which will be under a readmore. However for folks in the tags who don’t want spoilers, I do have a shitpost regarding the giant boot items/puzzles so this post isn’t a total nothing burger for you.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyways now for the bulk of what I was too impatient not to post. Again, spoilers for new content!
First and foremost, I wish everyone who ever called me weird or said I was reaching with my headcanons regarding Lor being sapient and not solely just under the control of Magolor or whatever powers that be a very GET FUCKED FOREVER. BOAT PLAY BEHAVIOR REAL.
Tumblr media
Next, Magolor’s win animation in Samurai Kirby took me out for a solid 10 minutes and I was compelled to make this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also had another thought regarding things with Lor in Magoland. Specifically boat experiences mask noise jumpscare.
Tumblr media
And while I am gonna wait a bit longer before saying anything about [the horrors](including the alternative joke name I thought of for them), I did make this doodle based on a recent catcrumb post and my experience in the poor little meow meow mode.
Tumblr media
And then finally here is me being extremely normal about a mask. Did I immediately notice all the inconsistencies with this design when compared to previous in-game appearances Nova has had? Yes. Did that make me not happy to see them again acknowledged as a character in spite of only being tangentially relevant to this game due to special obscure dialogue from Magolor? Absolutely not, I didn’t name 99% of my accounts places after Nova for nothing. Love that cat clock. My brain rot is terminal
Tumblr media
I do plan on posting some actual headcanon-y stuff soon(particularly regarding Doomers and a certain headpiece), but it’ll be once the game has been out for longer to reduce the odds of people being spoiled by mistake. That stuff will be shared on my sideblog dedicated to such things, @nova-starcutter. You’ll never guess just by the name of the blog what kinds of headcanons I tend to think about most.

sorry but what do you mean by good faith headcanoning? /gen (i agree w/ you and you don’t have to answer this if you don’t want to, i’m just curious)
Oh I’m fine answering stuff like this! Helps me get my points across easier if people actually know what I’m talking about after all. Apologies in advance this got very long because I’m tired and can’t write short explanations when tired.
In a nutshell, it means not making some incredibly complicated headcanon that “explains” how x thing that clearly applies doesn’t actually apply. I just call it good faith headcanoning because it’s headcanon that doesn’t stem from much, if any canon basis, but that also isn’t used to excuse or push harmful or super unrealistic interpretations. An example of a good faith headcanon would be that Meta Knight is blind and his mask is what lets him see. There’s nothing that suggests or supports this in canon, and considering he still flies off even without his mask, it can be assumed it’s not actually required for vision. But saying that you headcanon he’s blind ultimately doesn’t do any harm, and just as importantly, doesn’t deny important established information.
As an example of a bad faith headcanon… Ok, this is gonna be silly, but I’m kinda brain’t right now. Say someone decided they don’t like the fact that Kirby loves strawberry shortcake for whatever reason, and said that they headcanon that Kirby LOATHES strawberry shortcake. In response to people pointing out that Kirby’s love of strawberry shortcake played a major roll in Squeak Squad, and has been depicted in other situations as well, they decide to say they headcanon that Kirby actually DOESN’T like it, but had to eat it for a challenge. Or they headcanon he was being “influenced” by something to make him want to eat the shortcake, as well as in every other instances of it being eaten.
The problem is that while this sort of thing technically DOES work as an explanation, it’s not a “fair” or reasonable one. No matter how much people point out that it contradicts something that’s been established, the person can always just point to their complicated workaround and say that “you can’t police my headcanons that’s mean!” In essence it’s basically the same issue teachers/professors have with you doing an opinion or argument-centric paper on something that can’t be disagreed with or argued against; at that point you’re not addressing the information, you’re just dodging the issue.
Yes, it’s true that people are allowed to headcanon what they want and that policing it(when it isn’t harmful/disgusting) is a shitty thing to do. I agree with that entirely. I’m also not against a bit of tip-toeing around in the vague parts of canon, and in fact that’s probably how the majority of my headcanons came about. However, in my opinion, there’s a point where it becomes a bit too much, where it’s really clear it’s all just an excuse to ignore important and well-established information about a character. Ignoring canon is fine until ignoring it fundamentally changes aspects of everything connected to it, in a way that no longer resembles the actual media.
The simple solution is to just call it an AU and then go from there, instead of making excuses for why X is like Z, when in the series X is shown to be like Y. In that case, so long as the impacts of changing that aspect are shown, and again, it’s not just an excuse to make abhorrent content, there’s no problem.
In reference to how this came about, the “bad faith” headcanons I was talking about would be the ones that basically say “Marx wasn’t actually a bad guy”, “Marx wasn’t being selfish”, “What Marx did wasn’t manipulative”, etc. as a means to justify Marx not experiencing consequences. Doing that essentially removes the basic core aspects of Marx’s character. Milky Way Wishes’ entire plot revolves around the simple fact that Marx is manipulative and a liar. He basically admits it himself when he says he got the sun and the moon to fight, got Kirby to summon Nova, and then brags about that whole thing going according to plan.
While it’s not out of the question to give him a motivation besides wanting to rule, like I did with Magolor in my headcanon, that motivation shouldn’t/can’t be used to undermine or otherwise excuse his actions. It doesn’t matter if he wanted to take over in order to improve Popstar or whatever(which he didn’t, because he gets excited about being able to cause all the mischief he wants, by the way). At the end of the day, he still probably caused major problems when the sun and moon started fighting, lied to and later attempted to kill Kirby(indirectly through exposure, then directly by fighting him), and ultimately got Nova destroyed. If the headcanon solely exists to say “but it’s ok and doesn’t matter anymore”, whether to woobify him into just a naughty widdle clown boy or (eugh) ship him with Someone, I can’t see a plausible way that it is in good faith and not just a tailored excuse to deny his wrongdoings in canon.
Now, this might seem like there’s an unfair line, because obviously not every unrealistic headcanon is in bad faith, but imo it can be figured out pretty simply. Generally, it can safely be assumed to be bad faith if multiple of the following things apply, within reason:
-It’s ignoring core information that, when changed, changes something completely in ways beyond just what’s being changed (ex. If you say Marx was actually possessed and that’s why he did MWW rather than being power hungry, there’s going to be more affected than just everyone going “oh it’s not his fault, ok” and then doing nothing)
-It’s changing so much information to make sense that, in justifying the one headcanon, many other things no longer line up or make sense, but go unaddressed (ex. Saying Meta Knight wasn’t bad in Revenge of Meta Knight because he wanted to take over Dreamland because there was actually some kind of great evil that he needed control to destroy, and that saying it’s because he wanted to end the lazy lifestyle was just a coverup to not cause mass panic)
-The headcanon attempts to justify an act that can’t be honestly justified or made ok in the canon circumstances (ex. Saying Sectonia actually wanted to rule Floralia and take over Popstar for good reasons that Kirby couldn’t see, like trying to unite them into a safer whole, or trying to justify Hyness’ mistreatment of Zan Partizanne by saying she’s actually the bad one)
-It is used in a manner that basically attempts to “victimize” the creator or “villainize” people who disagree if discrepancies in their headcanon are pointed out (ex. The creator “headcanons” Dedede is actually totally evil in order to write characters hating him, and acts like they’re being bullied when people correctly point out the positive relationships Dedede has with the main cast, as well as his role in aiding the side of good in games like Return to Dreamland, Triple Deluxe, and Star Allies.
-It is otherwise an unsupported, implausible headcanon being used to excuse gross and/or malicious content (ex. Headcanon excuses for shipping gross pairings, like MetaSusie or p*do/*nc*st ships)
While these criteria technically mean my shortcake example doesn’t count, I think there’s also always going to be a bit of case by case judgement with this sort of thing. Another important note, a bad faith headcanon isn’t necessarily bad conceptually; in most cases the issues can be solved by just making it an au with the appropriate changes, as that removes the issue of “how much canon can a headcanon ignore before it’s basically just an au?” As an example, “Au where Marx wasn’t a bad guy” is very different from “Marx wasn’t a bad guy”, while still allowing the same concept to be explored.

Note
do you have any headcanons as to what the favourite gifts of some of the different Kirby characters would be? like, who prefers food, who prefers flowers, that sort of thing? I hope that makes sense, I really like seeing what you all come up with on this blog and I hope you all have a good day!~
Mod Taranza: Yes!! Taranza loves flowers and potted plants, chocolates, and stuff for photography! Gooey likes Crayons, and Void likes anything!
Mod Galacta: Kirby,,, would like food a lot yes, but i also think they’d love gifts like clothes and little trinkets, little things that remind them of their friends! i'm thinking specifically about the sock at the end of epic yarn GHFDSEADSF
Bandana Moddle Dee: Bandee would want anything shiny or pretty looking. He has crow brain
Mod Skirby:
what have you done.
I know you probably meant specific stuff but... Sorry-
Kirby: Food's always great, but there's one thing he likes more although it isn’t a gift in the traditional sense. Memorable experiences. Like having a day at the spa with Susie or stargazing with Meta Knight is an absolute treat for him. Spending time with him is the best thing you could possibly gift. Dedede: Prefers food and goods that he couldn't normally get himself. He's a literal king so anything out of his reach interests him, but what really matters is if it's personalized to him. He loves nothing more than a gift made just for him, even if most people would scoff at it. Literally everything Kirby/Bandana's ever made for him is hanging in Dedede's castle. Meta knight: Hot take, he loves flowers. They smell nice and look really pretty, and he could look at a complicated floral arrangement for hours if he's bored. You can't go wrong with chocolate though. Bandana: Bandana isn't a big fan of gifts being given to him, so it usually has to be disguised as something else. Regardless he always likes diving into a new hobby or embracing an old one. Buying an unfamiliar instrument brings plenty of joy since he gets to experience trying to tune it, then play it, then retuning it and looking for lessons, until he's nearly mastered the thing and comes back to the gift-giver to show how good he's gotten. It's a gift that keeps on giving really. Taranza: Buying or even finding wild seeds that he doesn't know about can get him excited as he tries to guess what it is before it grows. Also any vintage-y collectables are great gifts, and those kind of old, silent movies are a treat for him (they're super rare). Susie: Susie's also pretty big on quality time with people. Memories made are super important to her... which is why a scrapbook could be a very out there but perfect gift. It isn't something she can just get herself and she'd never expect a book full of the memories she's had or shared with others. Marx: Honestly gag gifts are pretty great for him. Honestly they probably don't exist in the kirby universe but the idea of paying for one of those 'break rooms' (rooms with stuff easily destroyed like plates and chairs, that you're allowed to break at your leisure. Yes they're real yes I want to go to one) sounds hilarious and very valid. Magolor: Get him an impossible puzzle and watch him struggle. Jkjk- but those really really complicated puzzles that take hours to complete would be pretty great. Gooey: Give him a little whiteboard and colorful markers and dude will use them until the markers dry out. Also one of those uhh... doodle boards. You know the magnetic ones? Yeah. Or just an Etch A Sketch, but that might be hard to use with nubs.
Time to end on my faves; Prince Fluff: Literally anything someone's made themself. Doesn't matter the quality or what it is really. As long as love and care was put into it, he'll lovee it. Rare fabrics and skeins of wool are a good follow up, as well as pins, patches, and beads. (He'd probably die if someone made him a patch.) Shadow Kirby: Hard to go wrong really. I don't think he'd receive gifts often, so even the most mundane of things like a mug would be great. Potted plants (especially flowers) are an unexpected favorite, as long as they don't require much light and are easy to care for. They're beautiful and bring color to the darker Mirror world.
Don't even get me started on gifts that are to two people, or seasonal gifts... or just who would give what what because yes I have a lot of ideas. Just know that I actually cut stuff.
