The Blue Lion flies towards a castle. Four tall pillars accented with a blue that reminds you of the coastal waters of home surround the main structure. A long, ancient, and deteriorating bridge connects the lone plateau the castle sits on to the rest of the world.
As the Lion lands in the large, spacious courtyard before it, it lowers its head to the ground.
"Keep your guard up," Shiro warns.
     "What's wrong?" you ask.
"My crew was captured by aliens once, I'm not going to let it happen again," he says.
The group exits the Lion, your mouths agape and your eyes wide with awe and disbelief. Your footsteps echo loudly within the courtyard and the pearly white stone beneath your feet seems too clean. You look around, hoping to spot someone or something, but you're alone.
Behind you, the Lion stands and roars. Hunk freaks out and hides behind you, screaming that you're going to be eaten. But the doors to the castle groan as they open and the Lion sits back down.
"Oh... the door is open!" Hunk says, coming out from behind you. He looks at the Blue Lion, "I guess I was wrong about you!"
The doors lead to darkness, the sunlight only reaching so far inside. You feel uneasy not knowing what lurks within. Thankfully, Shiro takes the lead and the rest of you cautiously follow. And after a few moments inside, your eyes finally adjust to the darkness. The group stands in a room larger than any you have ever seen; the Blue Lion could easily fit inside.
"Hello!" Hunk calls out and you nearly jump out of your skin.
The group stops in the middle of the room. In front of you, a large staircase leads to an upper floor and the balconies overlooking the room.
"From the size of the Lion, I expected these steps to be bigger," Pidge observes.
"Maybe the castle isn't for the Lion," you say, looking around.
Something powers on above you and creates a ring of light around you. The tiles below you illuminate and a robotic voice speaks, "Hold for identity scan."
A light rises from the ground at your feet and up to your head, scanning you and gathering whatever information is needed.
"Why are we here? What do you want with us?" Shiro interrogates but is left unanswered.
The scanner powers off. The room lights up, the torches along the walls igniting. You can properly see now, and you're realizing just how futuristic the castle is. Its architecture is abstract and alien.
As the long corridor at the top of the steps lights up as well, Pidge shrugs and says, "I guess we go that way."
The group moves forward and you grab onto Lance's arm to make sure he stays close. Knowing him, he would see something and wander off.
"(y/n), I can walk myself," your brother complains.
"You're basically a two-year-old in the body of a teenager," you say.
Lance irks. "You're literally ten months younger than me! What makes you think you're any different?"
You roll your eyes, "I'm much more mature."
"What!?" Lance barks at you, ripping his arm from your grasp. "You drink apple juice and eat animal crackers like they're your freaking life source!"
"So?" you say and raise a brow at him.
The six of you wander into another room. In the center sits a control console and two cryopods standing vertically a few feet behind it. Lance walks up to one of the pods, tapping on the glass. He mutters something to himself.
You and Pidge inspect the control console in the center, or at least that's what you think it is now that you're looking at it. There's nothing on it, and there doesn't seem to be a way to turn it on.
Lance screams when the cryopod he stands by hisses loudly, the freezing air from within escaping as the seal breaks. The glass door opens, revealing a beautiful woman with curly white hair and dark skin. She whispers something and her knees buckle beneath her. Lance catches her before she falls to the ground.
She looks up at your brother. "Where am I? Who are you?" she asks.
Lance grins, his cheeks flushing. "I'm Lance, and you're right here in my arms," he flirts.
The woman gives him a quizzical look. She reaches a hand towards his head. "Your... ears?" she says. It's now that you notice her ears are pointed.
     "What about them?" Lance asks.
"They're hideous," the woman grimaces, "What's wrong with them?"
"Nothing's wrong with them! They heard exactly what you said about them- Agh!" Lance grunts as the woman yanks him by the ear and throws him to the ground. She grabs his arm, pinning it behind his back.
"Who are you? Where is King Alfor?" she interrogates. "What are you doing in my castle?"
You feel your heart beat wildly within your chest. Adrenaline rushes through your veins at the sight of your brother in danger. Without a single thought, you charge at the woman to protect him. Your shoulder connects with hers and she falls to the ground. As you stand over Lance, you watch her movements carefully.
"Don't touch him," you growl, "A Blue Lion brought us here and that's all we know."
The woman picks herself up and dusts off the skirt of her dress. "How do you have the Blue Lion? What happened to its Paladin?" she asks, staring at you and Lance for a moment. She glances around the room and sees the rest of the group. "What are you all doing here? Unless- How long has it been?" she rushes over to the control console, placing her hands on top of it.
"So that's how that works," Pidge comments as the control console powers on, a holographic screen popping up.
"Who are you?" Shiro asks, "Maybe we can help?"
You glare at the back of her head as you help Lance off of the floor. Whoever she is, she is not touching Lance ever again.
"I'm Princess Allura of the plant Altea," the woman says and presses a button. The other cryopod opens up and an older man with a bushy orange mustache wakes up.
The man gasps and shouts, "Enemy combatants!" He lunges from the cryopod at you and Lance, and the two of you easily dodge him.
The man catches himself on the other pod, groaning. "Quiznack! You're lucky I have a case of the old 'sleep chamber knees'," he says, turning to you.
Crazy old man, you think to yourself. His detailed explanation of how he would take you down in a fight goes in one ear and out the other. You feel no need to be defensive, because if he was going to fight you he would have done so already.
But your brother decides it would be fun to entertain him.
You leave Lance to the chaos and join the rest of the group near the control panel. You keep your distance from Allura as you watch her pull up some data.
"It can't be," she says with shock.
The man stops and looks at her. "What is it?" he asks.
"We've been asleep for ten thousand years," Allura says, her expression quickly turning to anger. She glares at her hands before turning to the man. "Altea and all the planets in our solar system have been destroyed. Coran... Father is gone. Our entire civilization... It was all Zarkon."
     Shiro's eyes go wide. "Zarkon?"
Allura clenches her jaw. "He was the king of the Galra. A vile creature and enemy to all free people."
Shiro looks down at his robotic arm, flexing the fingers into a fist. "I remember now... I was his prisoner."
"He's still alive? That's impossible," Allura says.
"I can't explain, but it's true," Shiro says. "He's searching for a super weapon called Voltron."
Allura shakes her head, "He's searching for it because he knows it's the only thing that can stop him," she says, "And that's exactly why we must find it before he does-"
The castle's alarms blare and the console's screen flashes red. It shows a video of an alien warship similar to the one you encountered back at Earth.
"A Galra battleship has set its tracker to us!" Coran exclaims.
"How did they even find us?" you ask.
"I bet it's Keith's fault," Lance says, side-eyeing the mullet boy.
Keith rolls his eyes, "Say whatever you gotta say to make yourself feel better," he growls, "After getting us stuck on the other side of a wormhole!"
Lance gets in Keith's face, "I'll stick you in a wormhole!"
Shiro grabs Lance and pulls him back and you do the same with Keith. As Lance raises his arms and feigns innocence, Shiro steps between them, "Stow it, cadets! This is no time to blame others, it's time to work as a team!"
Keith stares your brother down and you can practically feel his blood boil beneath his skin. You tighten your grip on his arm to get his attention, but he doesn't look at you.
Shiro turns to Coran, "How long before they arrive?"
"At their speed?" Coran hums, counting his fingers, "I'd say... a couple of days?"
"Good, let them come," Allura says. "By the time they've arrived, you will have reformed Voltron and together, we will destroy Zarkon's empire."
"Princess," Shiro says, "There are five of these Lions, how are we going to find the rest?"
"Come with me," Allura says and walks out of the room. The group follows her, but you're wary. The last time you told you to go with them, you ended up flying through space halfway across the galaxy... at least you think it's halfway.
Allura enters another large room, glass windows reaching floor to ceiling all around it. The room contains a large control console at the far end of it, six individual chairs towards the entrance, and two waist-high pillars in the center. A large crystal is mounted on the ceiling above them.
"King Alfor connected the Lions to Allura's life force," Coran says, "She alone is the key to their whereabouts."
Allura walks up to the pillars, placing her hands on the crystal blue orbs sitting on top of them. She closes her eyes and the crystal above her shines a light down on her. After a moment, a three-dimensional, holographic map of the universe fills the entire room. Stars, planets, and various other markers float through the air. You smile, amazed at the technology.
"These are... coordinates," Pidge says, curiously reaching a hand through one as it floats by him; the Black Lion. "It looks like the Black Lion is in the same place as the Blue Lion."
"That's because the Black Lion is in the castle," Allura explains.
"To keep it out of Zarkon's hands, King Alfor locked it in the castle," Coran says, "It can only be freed if the other Lions are present."
"As you have found, the Lions choose their pilots," Allura says. "It is a mystical bond and cannot be forced."
You cross your arms, confused. "Then how come the Blue Lion let me and Lance fly it? These things are made to only need one pilot."
Allura furrows her brows, "I... do not know. Perhaps it's because you share the same blood? The quintessence of the pilot is mirrored in their Lion," she says.
You share a look with your brother and he shrugs.
Allura swipes her hand through the air and the map rotates. The Black Lion floats above Shiro's head. "The Black Lion the decisive head of Voltron. It requires a pilot who is a born leader and in control at all times. Someone whose men with follow without hesitation. That is why, Shiro, you will pilot the Black Lion."
"The Green Lion has an inquisitive personality," Allura says, moving the Green Lion to Pidge, "And needs a pilot of intellect and daring. Pidge, you will pilot the Green Lion."
     "The Blue Lion–"
"Hold up, let me guess!" Lance interrupts, "Takes the most handsome slash best pilot of the bunch?"
You smack his arm, silently telling him to knock it off. He hits you back, and it takes every fiber of your being to not give in to your little sister instincts.
Allura moves on, "The Yellow Lion is caring and kind," she moves the Lion's marker over to Hunk, "Its pilot puts the needs of others before his own. His heart must be mighty. Hunk, as the leg of Voltron, you will lift the team up and hold them together."
Allura looks down at her hands where the Red Lion's marker now sits. "The Red Lion is temperamental and difficult to master. It's faster and more agile than the others, but also more unstable," she releases the Red Lion and it floats over to Keith. "It's pilot needs to be someone who relies more on instinct rather than skill. Keith, you will fly the Red Lion."
She continues, "Unfortunately I can't locate the Red Lion's coordinates yet. There must be something wrong with the castle, and after ten thousand years, it might need some work..."
"Don't worry!" Coran interjects, "We'll find it soon. They don't call me the Coranic for nothing!" he pauses, "You know, cause it sounds like mechanic... Coranic... mechanic..."
Allura smiles, laughing softly. As she continues speaking, the Lions floating around the map roar and fly toward the center of the room, forming Voltron. "Once the Lions are united, you will form Voltron, the most powerful warrior the universe has ever known!"
The map dissipates. To be honest, you're a little bummed you don't get a giant robot cat to fly around. But at least you still get to help out... maybe. You're not sure what you can do.
"Wait, how does a Lion turn into a leg?" Hunk asks Allura. "Also, is this going to take a while, because I have to pee. Do you people pee?"
Shiro sighs, "We don't have much time. Pidge and I will go after the Green Lion. Lance, you take Hunk and get the Yellow Lion. Keith and (y/n), you can stay here until the Red Lion is found."
"In the meantime, I'll get the castle's defenses ready," Allura says. "It will be sorely needed."
Coran folds his arms behind his back, "I'll ready a pod and load in the coordinates so you can get to the Green Lion," he says, "But we can only keep the wormholes leading to the other Lions open for two of your Earth hours, so make it quick!"
⁀➷
You and Keith sit on the floor, playing a game of twenty questions while Allura and Coran configure the castle's defenses. You lean back against the wall, puckering your lips as you think.
     "Is it... big?" you ask.
     "Yeah," Keith answers.
     "Is it... an animal?"
     "Sort of?"
     "Is it red?"
     "Yeah."
"Is it the Red Lion?" you ask with a smile and sit up.
Keith kisses his teeth, "Yeah, how'd you guess it so quickly?"
"You just gotta come up with things that are harder to figure out," you say. You place your hands on your knees and Keith takes his turn asking questions.
The two of you get through a few more rounds of the game before the others return. Shiro and Pidge are in a pleasant mood, whereas Lance and Hunk look like they went through Hell. Keith stands and you grab his hand and he helps you up.
     "You made it!" Allura chirps.
Lance rolls his shoulder, groaning. "Yeah, just barely. That was a nightmare..."
"Did you find the Red Lion yet?" Shiro asks.
"Allura just located it," Coran says. "There's a bit of good news and bad news..."
     "Good news first?" you shrug.
"Okay, the Red Lion's nearby!" Coran says, then crosses his arms. "The bad news... it's aboard that Galra ship now orbiting planet Arus."
You grimace, glancing at Keith. He's going to have to go straight through the enemy to get to the Red Lion.
"But wait, good news again," Coran exclaims, "We're Arus!"
     "They're already here!?" Shiro shouts.
"I guess my calculations were a bit off..." Coran says. "Finger counting is more of an art than an actual science."
The room's lights flicker for a moment before a broadcast appears on a large screen. On it is a one-eyed alien with purple fur and fluffy ears. Under other circumstances, you would think he was adorable. But his menacing snarl reminds you what he's here for.
"Princess Allura," the alien speaks, "I am Commander Sendak of the Galra Empire. I come on behalf of Emperor Zarkon to confiscate the Voltron Lions. Turn them over to me, or I will destroy planet Arus."
The broadcast ends and you feel nauseated. You turn to Shiro, hoping for some words of encouragement.
"Alright, let's not panic," he says.
"Not panic?" you look at him with disbelief.
"The scary purple alien thing is driving his battleship towards us!" Hunk exclaims, "We only have four Lions–"
Pidge interjects, "Technically three working Lions."
Hunk pats his shoulder as to say a very sarcastic thank you, "Three working Lions and a castle that's, like, ten thousand years old!"
"Actually," Coran smiles proudly, twirling with his mustache, "It's ten thousand six hundred years old–"
You shoot him a glare, "Not helping Coran!"
"See?" Hunk gestures to Shiro, "Now is the perfect time to panic!"
"Just wait," Allura says desperately, "This castle has a particle barrier we can activate."
Lance smirks, "Girl, you've already activated my par–"
     "Lance!" Shiro growls.
Coran pulls up a diagnostics screen of the Galra battleship. He highlights the canon sitting on top of it and isolates the individual information of it. "The particle barrier won't stand against Sendak's ion canon forever. The Galra's technology must have advanced since the last time we fought..."
     "Panic now?" Hunk asks.
"No," Shiro sighs, "We just need to figure out our plan of action... and figure it out quickly."
"I say we pop through a wormhole and live to see another day," Lance says.
     "I second that," Hunk says.
"Did you not hear Sendak?" you ask, frowning at the two. "He'll destroy the planet if we don't do as he says. We'll be screwing over everything that lives on Arus if we run away!"
"And the Galra will keep destroying planets and capturing prisoners until we stop them," Pidge says.
"But what if Sendak doesn't destroy the planet and follows us through the wormhole?" Hunk asks.
"Are you seriously gonna trust that?" you cross your arms.
"Staying is our only option," Keith says, standing beside you.
"Here's an option, shut your quiznack!" Lance says and the vulgar words nearly kill Allura and Coran on the spot.
"I don't think you're using that word correctly," Keith says, getting increasingly frustrated with your brother.
"What do you know, mullet?" Lance asks, getting in Keith's face.
     "We're staying!" Keith shouts.
     "Leaving!" Lance argues back.
     "Guys, stop!" Shiro barks,
You step between the two, holding your arms out at your sides to keep Lance from simply going around you. You take a few steps back, moving Keith with you. "Can you not go at each other's throats right now?" you growl.
Shiro turns to Allura, "Princess, these are your Lions. You've dealt with the Galra Empire before. You know what we're facing better than any of us. What do you think is the best course of action?"
She hesitates, eyes wide with uncertainty, "I don't know..." she says softly.
Coran rests a hand on her shoulder, "Perhaps your father can help?"
⁀➷
Allura returns a few moments later dressed in an Altean uniform, a determined look on her face. "You five paladins were brought here for a reason. The Voltron Lions are meant to be piloted by you alone. We must fight and keep fighting until we defeat Zarkon. Voltron is the universe's only hope."
"We're with you, Princess," Shiro says.
"Then come with me," Allura says.
She brings everyone to an armory. Five suits of armor sit safe and sound within glass cases, the accent colors of each one coordinating with a Lion.
"Your suits of armor," Allura says.
You watch as your brother runs up to the Blue Lion armor, gawking at it. You frown, majorly feeling left out, and walk over to him.
"This is so cool!" Lance says, glancing back at you. "I wish you could get one too."
     "Yep," you purse your lips.
"Alright," Shiro says, "Let's suit up!"
Once everyone is in their Paladin armor, Allura moves over to a table. She places her hand on the glass top and it slowly disappears, revealing four strange objects.
"These are your bayards. The traditional weapon of the Paladins of Voltron. It takes a distinct shape for each Paladin," she says and they mystically float up and into the hands of their Paladins, transforming into a different weapon.
Hunk gets something similar to a Gatling gun, Keith gets a sword, Lance gets an Altean rifle, and Pidge gets a handblade. But Shiro doesn't get a bayard.
"Shiro, I'm afraid your bayard was lost with its Paladin," Allura says.
He shrugs, "I guess I'll just have to make do."
When everyone comes back to the main control room, the group begins to devise a plan. Coran pulls the Galra battleship diagnostics back up, and Allura talks the rest of you through it.
"You'll need to retrieve the Red Lion from Sendak's ship," she says. "There are various areas of the ship you can enter through, but not without being spotted."
"That's a really big ship," Keith says, "How are we going to know where the Red Lion is?"
Pidge says, "It's not a matter of we, it's a matter of you."
"Yeah!" Hunk says, "Once we get you in there, you'll be able to feel the Red Lion's presence and track it down."
"You know how you felt that crazy energy while we were in the desert?" Lance asks.
"Yeah, you made fun of me for it," Keith frowns.
"And I'm proud of it," Lance smirks, "But turns out, it's just like that."
"Keith," Allura says and he looks at her, "Remember, the Red Lion is extremely temperamental. You'll have to earn its respect."
"Alright," Shiro says, placing a reassuring hand on Keith's shoulder. "Here's our plan of attack...
"The Galra empire knows about the Blue and Yellow Lions, but they don't know about the Green Lion. Hunk and Lance, you'll act as a decoy by pretending to give yourselves up. Keith, Pidge, and I will sneak onto the ship in the Green Lion. Keith and I will find the Red Lion while Pidge guards our exit. Hunk and Lance, you need to find some way to take down that ion canon in the meantime."
"Let me come with," you say, "I want to help."
"I don't think there's anything you can do other than stay here with Allura and Coran," Shiro says. "Besides, you don't have any armor or weapons."
"I'm sure there's some spare stuff," you say, hoping to persuade him. "I don't want to sit here and wait around. I can help you guys find the Red Lion."
Shiro stares at you for a moment, considering. He then sighs, "Fine. Allura, is there another suit of armor (y/n) can use?"

It's so hard
“Salazar’s bollocks!”
It appeared today was one of his baking days, and if his yell was any indication, it wasn’t going well.
Hermione sauntered into the kitchen, one of her favorite rooms in their countryside cottage. She had installed a very specific shade of mint green cabinetry with matte gold accents. The thin, vertical subway tiles had a hammered white finish that lent a striking handmade look to the entire wall. A single large island dominated the center, and every centimetre of its butcher block surface was covered with an explosion of flour emanating outward from a visibly frustrated Draco Malfoy.
“Oh, honey, what have you done?”
He didn’t even have the grace of appearing guilty. Waving in exasperation at the cooling rack underneath the powdery mess, he blurted out, “The blasted dough didn’t even rise! And I had my first bout of accidental magic since I don’t even know how long.”
Hermione poked at the lump. “Is that why it’s so…hard?”
All she received was a scowl in reply. Muttering a cleansing spell, he vanished the mess with a short wave of his wand.
“Mrowwwwwwww.”
They both turned to see Crookshanks licking his paws innocently from where he sat on the counter near the oven. “Draco! You left the oven on.” Moving forward to turn down the dial, she noticed the temperature setting. “Did you mean to bake it this high?”
In a blink, he stood in front of the offending appliance.
“This is not what I set it at.” Narrowed grey eyes turned to her aging cat who paced in front of his food bowl and continued to yowl in annoyance.
“Did you remember to feed him?”
“...”
“You forgot to feed him, didn’t you?”
“Are you seriously implying that the blasted cat sabotaged my bread because he didn’t get his breakfast?”
He was ridiculously adorable when shocked. His look of incredulity darted between herself and Crookshanks. Hermione walked over to fill her familiar’s bowl.
“Do you remember the last time you vanished the morning coffee before I got my cup? Familiars take after their owners, and Crookshanks is old and set in his ways. I’m sure you won’t forget again.”
She tugged the silent wizard down to her height for a chaste kiss. He continued to open and close his mouth without any actual words emerging, and she took the opportunity to rub his pointy nose.
“You missed a spot.”

Blue Team Beach House: Entry, Kitchen, Laundry
Now that we've looked at some of the design considerations from the outside, we're ready to head indoors! I feel like I'm on an HGTV show.
Tumblr media
Right inside the front door (which, like most of the doors in this house, is tall and has a window feature - again, sight lines are important), we have the entryway. It's wide enough that it doesn't feel cramped, but still has plenty of storage space for things like keys, books, jackets, shoes, and exercise equipment (including but not limited to: Kelly's running kit and Linda's yoga mat). Which brings us to this post's first Design Consideration: Efficient Storage.
Tumblr media
There's a place for mail and a mirror to double-check that they look sufficiently rugged and intimidating before they go out in public. Eventually there will be pictures in those frames. The holo-panel by the front door is the manual control hub for the dumb AI that runs the house's utility systems. (I'm still undecided on a name for it. I'd take suggestions.)
The color palette of the entryway more or less informs the theme for the whole house; various shades of blue and natural wood. Light floors and ceilings contrast with the dark blue walls and keep things from feeling too closed-in.
Tumblr media
Directly in front of the entry is the kitchen and it's a straight shot through to the laundry area (but we'll get there in a second). Also, remember what I said about edible plants?
Tumblr media
An indoor herb garden! Right around the corner from the entry, and just a few steps away from the kitchen (it's all open-plan anyway) there's fresh basil, sage, parsley, grapes, mushrooms, and garlic. Linda has assigned herself to plant care, she likes the routine of checking in on them every morning. (Quick shoutout to the moveobjects cheat for allowing me to sink those huge clunky vertical planters into the wall a bit, they look so much better that way.) Behind that door is a little shotgun bathroom, but that's for a different post.
Tumblr media
The kitchen is spacious (as it needs to be when you have up to four huge people in it at once) with plenty of room to move around. Again, the coloring is light, mostly blond wood and white (easy to clean, as Kelly is so helpfully demonstrating) with the exception of the appliances, which add a balance of dark and/or colorful accents.
Tumblr media
Utensils, knives, and pans are wall-mounted to free up counter space and there are so many cabinets and drawers for storage.
Tumblr media
The decor throughout the house focuses mostly on wood and glass as its main elements, but there are industrial touches, seen here in the hanging lamps over the bar island and the brushed metal backsplash. (Player note: I added the blue floor light strips 1) because Halo is sci-fi and this house needed at least a little of that and 2) because the abrupt switch from wood to tile looked weird without a border.)
Tumblr media
Instead of a traditional dining table, there is a long bar with additional storage under the countertop. Again, the seating is sturdy and stable and matches the muted dusty blue of the walls and framing of the overhead lamps, adding some color to an otherwise very earthy palette. The hallway behind the kitchen wall provides a way to access the two downstairs suites (Fred's and Kelly's) in a way that doesn't involve cutting through the kitchen. Neither of those doors are in the hallway, and as such can be seen from multiple angles on the ground floor, reducing blind spots to points of entry and egress.
Tumblr media
Tucked under the stairs, next to Kelly's room, is the laundry area. As is par for the course, the washer and dryer are stacked to save space and nearly everything else is wall-mounted or stored on shelves.
Tumblr media
The second Design Consideration I hope this post has demonstrated is: Unobstructed Space To Move. This will continue to be apparent throughout the rest of the house, but I feel like it's especially applicable on the ground floor where the walkways are wide and nothing is closed off from anything else in such a way that makes it difficult to access quickly.

Refreshing Ideas for a Kitchen and Bathroom Renovation
Tumblr media
Introduction:
Embarking on a kitchen and bathroom renovation project is an exciting opportunity to revitalize the heart of your home and create a serene oasis in your bathroom. If you're seeking inspiration and refreshing ideas for your upcoming renovation, look no further. In this article, we will present you with a collection of innovative and creative ideas that will transform your kitchen and bathroom into stylish, functional, and inviting spaces.
Tumblr media
Embrace Open Shelving: Open shelving is a popular trend that adds a modern and airy feel to both kitchens and bathrooms. Instead of traditional closed cabinets, consider removing some cabinet doors and showcasing your favorite dishes, glassware, or decorative items on open shelves. This not only creates an open and inviting atmosphere but also provides easy access to frequently used items. Play with different materials, such as reclaimed wood or sleek metal, to match your desired aesthetic.
Incorporate Statement Lighting: Upgrade your kitchen and bathroom lighting to make a bold statement. Pendant lights above the kitchen island can serve as striking focal points while providing ample illumination for meal preparation. In the bathroom, consider installing a glamorous chandelier or a sleek, contemporary light fixture above the vanity to create a luxurious ambiance. Thoughtfully chosen lighting fixtures can instantly elevate the style and mood of these spaces.
Add a Pop of Color: Inject a burst of color into your kitchen and bathroom to liven up the overall design. Consider painting an accent wall in a vibrant hue or introducing colorful tiles as a backsplash in the kitchen or shower area in the bathroom. You can also incorporate colorful accessories such as towels, rugs, or artwork to infuse energy and personality into the space. Don't be afraid to experiment with bold and unique color combinations that reflect your personal style.
Integrate Smart Technology: Embrace the convenience and efficiency of smart technology in your kitchen and bathroom. Install touchless faucets that promote hygiene and water conservation. In the kitchen, invest in smart appliances that allow you to control and monitor cooking processes remotely. In the bathroom, consider installing a smart mirror with built-in lighting and Bluetooth capabilities. These technological additions not only enhance functionality but also give your spaces a contemporary and futuristic touch.
Create a Spa-like Retreat: Transform your bathroom into a tranquil oasis reminiscent of a luxurious spa. Install a freestanding soaking tub for ultimate relaxation and add a rain showerhead or a multi-jet shower system to create a spa-like experience. Incorporate natural materials like stone or wood, and opt for soft, neutral colors to evoke a sense of serenity. Enhance the ambiance with scented candles, plush towels, and calming artwork to complete the serene retreat.
Maximize Storage: In both the kitchen and bathroom, efficient storage solutions are essential for a well-organized and clutter-free space. Consider incorporating clever storage options such as pull-out drawers, built-in organizers, or vertical storage racks. Utilize the space under the sink or opt for wall-mounted shelves to maximize storage potential. By optimizing storage, you can maintain a clean and functional environment in these heavily utilized areas.
Conclusion:
A kitchen and bathroom renovation presents an opportunity to breathe new life into these essential spaces. By embracing ideas such as open shelving, statement lighting, pops of color, smart technology integration, spa-like elements, and maximizing storage, you can create a refreshing and personalized atmosphere that reflects your style and enhances your daily routines. Get inspired, let your creativity soar, and embark on a renovation journey that will transform your kitchen and bathroom into spaces you'll love for years to come.

A/N: >2.5k words of....somethin. not actually sure what to call this..."Visiting Saturn Overtakes Terra With A Terrible Feeling Of Discomfort Brought About By His Own Mistakes And Control Freak Tendencies" doesn't really have a ring to it. more notes after the end :UUU
--
SRN-006's wing of Starship Sol was very minimalist.
The crown moulding and intricately carved patterns in each nook and cranny of SRN-007's broad and colourful corridors stood in stark contrast to these…neatly grid tile walls and artificial marble floors polished to reflection. A monochromatic, mostly black scheme, with splashes of white for accent.
It was one circular, narrow hall surrounding the repair lab in which he worked, with only purely necessary latitude. Just wide enough to accommodate their largest enlistee and no further.
SRN-006's wing of Starship Sol was too minimalist.
The dim pin lights resting parallel on the bottom of the perimeter were bulbless, caged, and cold. Cameras and sensors abounds sat in little pockets mechanically blocked out of the tile, and they too were black, with tiny red ringed eyes staring, unmoved, at whoever passed.
And then that would draw the attention to the preference of verticality in construction, as those burning lens would still be present the further back you tipped your head. In fact, should you regard them, they would return the favour, ensuring you felt small and out of place.
The ceiling stretched temple-high, and if you chose to follow it to its end, nothing special awaited you at the top. It was the same throughout, if not darker for the lack of mounted lighting.
SRN-006's wing of Starship Sol was beyond minimalist.
In every aspect, he'd wasted his opportunity for expression on barren, and featureless design. Nothing existed for comfort. There were no intentional benches, no decoration, nothing to suggest that anyone with a personality occupied the room in between.
How he managed to use so little of the space allotted to him when drafting, and turn what could have been a gravity-controlled exhibition lobby (per his home planet's aesthetics), into claustrophobic lifelessness was…disappointing.
Moreover, it was uncomfortable.
The experience of passing through this glorified pod bus tunnel was among the many things that made Terra's skin crawl.
He would never admit it to anyone, but it struck a particular chord of dread in him whenever the louvred metal doors slid away before him and he was forced to traverse the droning, beeping, clicking, groaning machinery trapped behind the architectural emptiness.
Pluto had once explained to him the concept of a "liminal space" while organising his daily field research.
-
"Liminality is, how do you say, a state commonly observed by man."
His glittering ruby irises flit back and forth across the tops of several holographed tabs.
"It is, so to speak, existing in a state of limbo."
He dismisses each window to the right or left with confident, swift swipes of his fingertips.
"When one is outside of points A and B. When one's regularity is upset and change is coming, but hasn't yet."
In the corner of Terra's visual feed blinks a purple light, alerting him to the three files just received under the subject "inv_rp21".
"A liminal space is similarly transitional. It is being beneath the bridge that connects your docked train to the station. It is being in the foyer of an familiar's unfamiliar home. The point of unease typically achieved by this will vary for the individual, but its basis is the same."
The sway of his tail and a dark chuckle follow him sauntering out of the office.
"Simply a little walk through to the gallows will unsettle these poor, ugly animals, even if they aren't in the noose. The paranoia is quite pathetic, don't you think?"
"…Quite. Thank you, 08."
-
The idea that he should be so human as to feel the effects of a "liminal space"…quite frankly, it irritated him.
What was the point of becoming an android if not to escape the trappings of the illogical?
If he had a choice, he'd simply warp straight to the laboratory and skip the gallows' walk altogether. The atmosphere of the planet Earth, the planet they'd been stuck on for centuries, he had to keep reminding himself it was far too dense to do any such thing and then attempt recompiling his molecular structure. If he were to try, travelling light speeds here would rip him asunder on an atomic level and he'd die a dangerous, obliterating death.
The thought alone was harrowing and persistent enough to keep him on the ground. He wished he'd never gotten a taste of it during the war against Mega Man, because it was tempting. But he couldn't. If he forgot, and did, wouldn't that be horrific? Every one of his men screaming for cover they'd never get, his carelessness costing them their lives, leaving their legacy a crater on a nowhere planet?
'Stop it.'
The necks of the cameras craned to fix their gazes on him.
A picture, of 40 different eyes turned to him in unison with his face reflected in each glassy surface, burned into the front of his mind.
And wouldn't leave.
Terra's legs stiffened. He shut his eyes.
Hampered by his body and the Earth's device, he had one defense against the odd, humiliating stress of being scrutinised from all angles: talking. It was a habit he'd developed long before his reconstruction at Albert Wily's hands.
In order to distract himself from the baleful thoughts that would constantly, ceaselessly encroach upon his mind, he would quietly, but vocally, talk to himself. He would talk until either the offending issue was gone, or until he'd calmed his anxiety enough to face it without shutting down, or doing something impulsive.
Instrumental to the success of this repression was that he not stop. That he tune out anything else telling him to divert his attention, do what he set out to do, and not stop.
"…♁, you're already pushing the envelope on time," he scolded, in a sing-song tone.
"If you arrive for your hygiene check late, he's going to complain, and then waste even more of your valuable time arguing why he should be 'cut a break, if you're not going to abide by your own set rules and arrive precisely when you mentioned you would, you neat freak."
The predicted conversation annoyed him perfectly. It drove his low heels clacking across the floor, to confront his slacking, good-for-nothing inferior before he had a chance to say exactly that.
"You can see his face now, right, sad and long like it deserves sympathy, probably because he'd been 'waiting oh so patiently, your highness'__I'll bet you feel your temper flare when he says that,"
which it did, taking his annoyance to anger and hurrying him into a power-stride, past a door with a slate sign labelled "MAINTENANCE".
"And of course, opportunist he is, he'd probably have thought he could take a quick nap-- actually, scratch that, there is no such thing as a 'quick nap' for him, once he's down, he's out, and he knows that, yet he never considered that when filing for employ in this embassy, he's got no professional pride, one of these days, he's going to get you all killed."
"Your invisible friend does a terrible job of backbiting, you know."
Terra's greenest shoots curled very suddenly, tightening his posture and releasing a gas into the hall that was the closest thing to a scent he'd detected since departing the byway.
He swivelled on his heel and stomped once to steady his posture, something he'd had to make a habit of doing since losing his hind legs, and usual gait. His company shook a finger at him.
"I do wish he'd be a little quieter."
Saturn was behind him by at least three metres.
Behind him by…what?
Behind him?
Sun strike him dead, the door was enormous. He was right there. How couldn't he have heard it shifting, at least? Was he really so caught up in distracting himself that he'd prioritised his pacing over the destination? Who knows how many times he might have gone in circles around it in that case?
Worse yet, why did that smug, sleepy face have to be the foremost indicator of his mistake? Taunting him with the notion of having seen all that faffing about?
Terra inhaled, and closed the distance between them, to two metres minimum. He even checked his feet to ensure that was correct.
"Move."
The seemingly indestructible smile on Saturn's mannequin-esque visage only grew with the demand.
"Now Terra," he started, pulling his ring off his shoulder. "There's an etiquette to asking things of people. A magic word: you may have heard of it?"
Electrostatic discharged between Terra's roots as he clenched the fist of his left hand, building up energy for the Spark Chaser. He didn't have to turn around to understand the hall cameras had settled on him, in sync with Saturn's hollow, impossibly red optic display.
"Move."
Motionlessly, Saturn's line of sight trailed from his hand to his eyes. Locked on to them. In mustering up the courage to hold him there, and not back down, Terra was able to look through him to the…limitless nothing. Into the abyssal, and unfeeling vacuum behind that warmly coloured shell.
…For just a few seconds, before the marionette made a show of throwing up his hands in mock defeat.
Terra questioned whether or not someone's photoreceptors counted as a "liminal space". His, at least. Certainly, they teetered on the cusp of real and unreal. It didn't help that his every action was such a practised, methodical thing.
It made nothing but sense that he'd devise sanitised, utilitarian floor plans like these, when he thought about it critically.
Saturn spun his ring out of the doorway, toeing it two metres until he could stop behind it and bow, gesturing his hand to the open lab. Always overdoing it with the inane, performative gestures, he should deck him just for that.
"Oh, I'm so sorry! I didn't realise you were in that kind of mood!" The plastic grin did not waver. "Go on in! Gosh, what a throwback! I remember when you dropped in just like this, oh, couldn't have been any less than two Earth days ago! Time flies, hm?"
Terra shot him a look as he stepped over the threshold into the very white, and somehow even more ascetic rotunda. Then shot him another to make sure he wouldn't shove him on while his back was turned.
"You certainly are a diligent one, inspector," Saturn continued, unprompted. "I hope this visit yields tangible results. Aethers forbid you find nothing, driving you madder when the data doesn't reflect the nonsense you're convinced of in your own head! …Oh, wait."
Hilarious.
A wry laugh escaped the other as he considered stitching his inferior's mouth closed and beating him into submission.
But, not really. Although, somewhat.
He missed the years where he didn't have the wherewithal to emulate this biting sarcasm he seemed so reliant on to mask his social ineptitude nowadays.
It'd grown tiresome.
On his tiptoes now, Terra was careful not to trip any wires hooked up to heavy duty equipment or touch any of the hand tools littered on the floor with his feet. He avoided crushing a single mircochip, or shattering any stray sheet glass. He squinted at the fluorescent white fixture in the dome ceiling and swore something fell into his eyes. Let alone his grasses.
Sun above, for how tidy and untouched it appeared, it was filthy in here. How could it have gotten this bad in two days time?
"Terra? What's wrong?"
Saturn's voice came in far too loudly behind him. He rushed to occupy himself with plucking and pulling on two gloves from the dispenser near a chemical wash sink.
"Yellow patches notwithstanding," he jested, jested, absorbing every Sun-forsaken microbe from the doorframe as he reclined against it like it was a seat, it wasn't, why did he insist. "You look exhausted! This neverending cycle of fretting and compulsive cleaning to look busy and responsible must be wearing on you!"
A disingenuous look of pity crossed his expression. "Is there anything I can do for you, Your Highness?"
His composure nearly dissolved, right there on the spot. Terra grit his teeth and angled his head just enough to keep Saturn in his peripheral vision.
"You can disappear, how about that? You'd like to help me? Get out."
And, not giving him room to refute, "I'll signal you once I'm done in here, if you haven't managed to trip, get comfortable, and fall asleep on your way to the common room."
"Actually, I never said I was-" "Get out, 06! OUT!"
The 6th planet's greatest shame pretended to flinch, and hit a red button fixed into the doorframe, backing steadily out of his base of operations. "Well, all right! No need to shout, you'll wear your poor old voice hoarse!" The door slowly, very slowly, began to close, and would lock once it did. Terra crossed his fingers it wouldn't give him trouble when it came time to leave for the deep-wash chambers.
Grabbing a clump of steel wool and a bottle of bleach from an open storage closet, he glared at Saturn's waning form through the shuttering egress.
So many installations, so little time…he decided he'd start scrubbing at the surgical table, which by no means should ever see so much residue and metal shavings, but how much could he really expect out of such a lazy slob? This wasn't even his job, but he'd forced his hand into doing it anyway.
He flipped back the belt restraints, out of his way.
If he could hack the idiot open and reprogram him with a sense of accountability, he would, without hesitation.
"And while you're out there," he snidely commented, unable to hold back. "Try rethinking your interior design aesthetics."
From out in the corridor came a satisfyingly vexed huff.
"When we begin reconstructing the Sol, I don't want to see any lobbies plotted by an AI whose net is three cheap home renovation magazines max, 06."
"MINIMALIST! IT'S MINIMALIST, TERRA!" Despite his best efforts to remain in earshot, his voice faded behind the nearly-closed door. "I've seen the future, and it's LESS-IS-MORE, alright?! I'm a futurist! I'm ahead of the curve! I promise you, in another 20 years you'll be…"
Click. Hiss.
The commander's eyes drifted to the console at which Saturn monitored all his various security feeds, and watched him move between them. He watched him haul himself all the way to the lift, feeling much less tense behind the spotlight than under it.
"Slovenly bastard."
He was probably tracking untold amounts of grime and dust behind him. That this blind tryhard had the audacity to call himself "ahead of the curve"…
Terra sighed hard as he scrubbed, in repetitious circles, trying to decompress, and found he couldn't. Just talking to Saturn had sucked all the will to live from his body, like matter through a black hole.
The truth was clear. At some point, he'd have to go browsing the market for a new engineer.
If things continued like this, he was seriously going to hurt him.
More than he already had.
...But, not actually. Not really, he hadn't.
At the end of the day, he was a void imitating life, feigning innocence and pain, priding the future while clinging to the past. He couldn't be asked to take the blame of despair for someone opting to live a lie.
The steel wool broke the glove on his right hand. Hastily, he tossed it and the other in a mesh wastebasket, washed his hands, and popped on a replacement pair.
--END
---------------------------------------------------------------------
didnt have a name for this goin in or anything i just sat down yesterday and typed up some crap cus Terra. idk i'm Interested in him theres so many different interpretations of him you can go with and Im leaning heavy on "a well intentioned but morally questionable Bitch". with OCD. his OCD isn't part and parcel of his Bitchness but it does contribute to a lot of his thought patterns, decision-making, and fixation on germ avoidance.

Understanding Space Constraints
Maximizing small spaces is crucial in interior design, especially in the Philippines where homes are often compact. The first step is to assess and plan your space carefully. Measure your rooms, identify the most important functions of each space, and think about how you can make the most of every square meter.
Budget-Friendly Design Tips
Choosing the Right Colors
Light colors can make a room feel larger and more open. Opt for whites, creams, and pastels to create a sense of space. If you want to add some personality, consider an accent wall with a bold color or pattern.
Multi-Functional Furniture
Furniture that serves multiple purposes is a game-changer in small spaces. Look for beds with storage drawers underneath, fold-out tables, or sofas that convert into beds. These pieces save space and often reduce the need for additional furniture.
Utilizing Vertical Space
When floor space is limited, turn your attention upwards. Install shelves and cabinets high on the walls to keep the floor clear. Wall-mounted desks and fold-away tables are also excellent for saving space.
Natural Lighting and Mirrors
Natural light can significantly enhance the sense of space in your home. Keep windows unobstructed and use light, airy curtains. Mirrors are another great tool; strategically place them to reflect light and create an illusion of a larger area.
DIY Decor Ideas
Personalizing your home doesn’t have to break the bank. Simple DIY projects can add character and style to your space. Consider upcycling old furniture with a fresh coat of paint or turning vintage finds into unique decor pieces. Handmade items like woven baskets or hand-painted tiles can also add a personal touch.
Incorporating Local Filipino Elements
Celebrate the rich culture of the Philippines by incorporating native materials and crafts into your interior design. Bamboo, rattan, and abaca are excellent choices for furniture and decor. Traditional Filipino designs, like intricate wood carvings or woven textiles, can add a unique and authentic flair to your home.
Designing a beautiful and functional small home on a budget is entirely possible with a bit of creativity and smart planning. Start your interior design journey today and see how transformative even the smallest changes can be. For expert advice and professional services, contact RND Prime Development Corporation. Transforming Toronto Bathrooms: How to Maximize Space and Style
Tumblr media
Toronto's diverse architectural styles often present unique challenges when it comes to bathroom renovations. With many homes featuring compact bathroom spaces, it's crucial to find ways to maximize both space and style. This guide will provide practical tips and ideas to help you transform your bathroom into a functional and stylish sanctuary.
Assessing Your Space
Analyzing Bathroom Layout
Before starting any renovation, it's essential to understand your bathroom's layout. Take measurements and note the location of existing fixtures. This will help you determine what can be changed and what must remain. Consider the traffic flow and how you use the space daily. Identifying these elements will guide your renovation decisions and help you make the most of your bathroom's footprint.
Identifying Storage Needs
Storage is a common issue in small bathrooms. Assess your current storage solutions and identify what you need to store. Do you need more space for towels, toiletries, or cleaning supplies? Once you have a clear idea of your storage needs, you can look for solutions that fit your space and style. Custom-built shelves, cabinets, and even repurposed furniture can offer creative and functional storage options.
Choosing the Right Fixtures
Space-Saving Fixtures
In small bathrooms, every inch counts. Opt for fixtures that save space without sacrificing functionality. Wall-mounted sinks and toilets free up floor space, making the room feel larger. Consider a corner sink if space is tight. Compact, multi-functional fixtures like a shower-tub combo can also be a great choice. Look for sleek, modern designs that add a touch of elegance to your bathroom.
Stylish and Functional Options
Choosing the right fixtures is not just about saving space; it's also about enhancing your bathroom's aesthetic. Look for fixtures that combine style and function. For instance, a frameless glass shower door can make the space look bigger while adding a contemporary feel. Modern faucets and showerheads in finishes like brushed nickel or matte black can elevate the look of your bathroom.
Creative Storage Solutions
Utilizing Vertical Space
When floor space is limited, think vertically. Tall cabinets, wall-mounted shelves, and over-the-toilet storage units can maximize your storage options without cluttering the room. Open shelving can create a sense of openness while keeping essentials within reach. Consider adding hooks or a pegboard to keep items off the counters and organized.
Hidden Storage Ideas
Hidden storage solutions can help maintain a clean and uncluttered look. Built-in niches in the shower or above the sink provide storage without taking up additional space. Vanity units with pull-out drawers or built-in hampers can keep your bathroom organized. Consider furniture with hidden compartments or mirrored cabinets that offer both storage and functionality.
Incorporating Modern Design Elements
Color Schemes and Textures
Choosing the right colors and textures can make a small bathroom feel more spacious and inviting. Light, neutral colors like white, beige, or light gray reflect light and create an airy atmosphere. Adding texture through tiles, wallpaper, or accessories can add depth and interest. Consider using large tiles to reduce grout lines and create a seamless look.
Lighting and Mirrors
Proper lighting is crucial in a small bathroom . Layered lighting, including ambient, task, and accent lighting, can enhance the space's functionality and mood. LED lights are energy-efficient and can be used for various lighting needs. Mirrors can make a small bathroom feel larger by reflecting light and creating the illusion of more space. A large mirror or a mirrored wall can have a significant impact.
Budget-Friendly Renovation Tips
Affordable Upgrades
You don't need a massive budget to transform your bathroom. Simple upgrades like new hardware, a fresh coat of paint, or updated lighting can make a big difference. Re-grouting tiles or adding a new shower curtain and bathmat can refresh the space. Look for deals on fixtures and materials at local home improvement stores or online.
DIY vs Professional Help
Deciding between DIY and hiring professionals depends on your skills and the scope of your renovation. Small projects like painting, installing shelves, or updating hardware can be done yourself. For more complex tasks like plumbing, electrical work, or major structural changes, it's best to hire professionals. This ensures the job is done correctly and safely.
Transforming a small bathroom in Toronto requires creativity and careful planning. By assessing your space, choosing the right fixtures, incorporating smart storage solutions, and focusing on modern design elements, you can maximize both space and style. Whether you're on a tight budget or looking to invest in a major renovation, these tips will help you create a bathroom that is both functional and beautiful.
