5 kpop songs that live in my mind rent-free

okay maybe this will flop or maybe this will just live in my drafts forever anyway but I've been feeling like rambling about some of my favorite songs lately (especially bc I feel like all of these are songs that don't get talked about enough lol). so. here goes nothing:

1. Victon - Mayday

what can I say. she is beautiful, she is stunning, I love her. this song is in my spotify wrapped top 100 every single year and I will not shut tf up about it to the point that I made a friend who doesn't even listen to Victon become obsessed with it as well. this song is my roman empire.

2. Golden Child - ONE(Lucid Dream)

everything about this song is just engineered to be perfect for me, specifically. the instrumentals, the vocals, the anti-drop? it truly scratches that one very specific itch in my brain and I have yet to find any other song that hits even close to the same.

3. ONF - Why

LISTEN. listen. this song? literally altered my brain chemistry the first time I listened to it. ONF just have such a unique sound and this song specifically just really hits different. also the cinematography in this mv? stunning. please god go listen to ONF.

4. Verivery - Lay Back

honestly there are a lot of Verivery songs that I could have added to this list but this one made me listen to them in the first place so I feel like it deserves this spot the most. something about this song - especially in combination with the choreo - is just so incredibly satisfying to me.

5. Imfact - The Light

I'm not gonna lie to you, I don't even listen to Imfact that much but this song? I've listened to it a truly unhealthy amount of times. I can't even quite tell you why I love it so much, I just do. The vibes are just simply exquisite.

synopsis: an immortal god and a traveler sit down for a meal and a chat.

pairing: immortal god!yongseung (verivery) x immortal!reader

genre: historical fantasy, slight angst, comfort if you squint

warnings: existential af (but this is one of my fics, you knew that), do not take this to be 100% historically accurate, loosely based off of genshin

you gaze at the feast in front of you in awe, with plates full of food neatly arranged on your table. of course, yongseung could afford the best, even in mortal form.

from the rooftop restaurant you were currently in, you had a beautiful view of the light-filled city, bustling with activity as sunset approached.

"my, what a pleasure it is to be invited by a god for dinner. thank you, again.”

he chuckles. "believe me, the pleasure is all mine. i know you saved my nation from calamity, so it’s the least i could do. i’m glad we could finally sit down for a proper meal.”

"yongseung, there's no need to thank me, it was the right thing to do," you say with a smile, beginning to fill your plate with various foods. “it's just nice to talk like this. i know we’re always so busy, especially you. ”

he sighs, and stares briefly at the vast expanse of hills, especially vibrant during the spring.

"sometimes i wish i weren't. thousands of years of work can be quite taxing on the soul."

the waiter stops by your table with two cups of hot tea and a kettle, and you briefly stop conversation to bow politely. you take a sip, relishing its taste. even after all this time traveling, your love for any sort of tea remains constant.

"oh, you old man! when you have the chance, you should travel the world with me—there's quite a lot to see."

yongseung raises an eyebrow. "you're quite old too, remember? but maybe i will take you up on your offer one day, if i feel comfortable to leave my nation in the hands of the people."

"sightseeing would do you some good. i feel 5,000 years young after running around all sorts of worlds! only the heavens know how long it's been since i've visited another..."

you stop yourself before you go on another one of your excited (and nostalgic) rambles. yongseung's still listening to you intently, though.

he carefully takes a sip of his own tea. "and here i thought you were just an ordinary human traveler when we first met, although i was quickly proven wrong. there is nothing ordinary about what you've been able to accomplish with your powers."

you smile amusedly while trying not to take all the jjajangmyeon noodles. he's busied himself with eating the meat, namely the pork belly.

"eh, everyone thinks so unless i tell them otherwise. you still treated me well regardless. or how should i put this, normally. i'm thankful for that. and in many ways, i'm no better than a mortal until i complete my goal on this planet."

it's a little sad, really. you miss your sibling. you've never lost sight of why you started your journey across the various nations of this world in the first place.

the god stares at you, his face containing traces of melancholy. "how selfish of me to say, but i find eternity to be a little less unbearable when you're here."

ah, what a sap. you love him, though. he's not so tough when you're around.

"then, i'm glad my time on this world has not been a waste."

at the start of your journey, you had told yourself that you wouldn't make many attachments to those you met, as it would make it harder to leave.

first and foremost, you wanted your sibling by your side so that you could traverse the galaxy together again. you just happened to help people along the way—nothing too deep.

but things were a little different with yongseung. despite being one of the gods that helped oversee korea and its people, he was someone you could now call a dear friend. the thought of saying "goodbye" to him, even if it only had to be temporarily, wasn't a fun one.

you've gotten used to encountering him every so often, studying some book or on a walk to clear his mind from all of his duties.

he smiles peacefully, and you're glad to see the expression. "i'll always remind you that your time is well spent with me."

at that, you pause to take in the rustling of the wind, the beautiful colors of sunset, the design on your napkin, and the reflective glint of yongseung's cubical necklace charm.

to think, that you might never have this exact view again. it's quite a bittersweet feeling, thinking that the day would come where you would leave earth. yongseung's well aware of this too, but logically, there was no point in thinking about it so much.

it'll be a long while before that day comes, as there are still so many questions for you to answer about this world.

so, until you have to move on again, you'll both cherish the memories you've made together. and maybe, just for a while, this can be eternity for you.

a/n: oh dear lord this is way overdue for @restlessmaknae's coexistence collab. i underestimated how tired this year would make me. i'm not that dissatisfied with the fic, but i wish my brain could come up with better sentences sometimes. i was thinking about how some people stay in one place their whole lives and how others move around so often, and how they would each perceive the other type of person. it's so different, isn't it? just food for thought. and also, my fantasy brainrot is too much.

omg hi siyuan!! I hope you’re doing alright! 💜🫂 kcon was A-MA-ZING!!! I had the best time this weekend all three concerts were great and I got to see so many ppl and I was happy bc I got to see some acts I wanted to but hadn’t seen yet (wayv, everglow, g-idle) :D

I lost my mind over taemin and cried hahaha but I was also happy to see the boyz again and see the new sub unit omg omg I can’t believe how sexy their song is 😭😭😭 (I also thought of you when I saw jacob and his cute fluffy bucket hat haha) AND itzyyyy I love them so so much I know I HAVE to see them whenever they come on tour again I also enjoyed some of the opening pre-show groups too (I’m so happy I got to see verivery again 🥹🥹🥹 it’s been so long <3333) seeing ateez and skz again tho was also my highlight!! I finally got to see pirate king which made me so happy bc I’ve been an atiny with my mom since debut so it meant a lot! AND I MANIFESTED SUPER BOWL FOR SKZ!! it was all I asked for (my mom and some friends are my witnesses lololol) this kcon I just wanted to see super bowl live and I got it hehehehe 🙈🙈 but I’m so glad I got to see the new title tracks for skz and ateez (s-class and bouncy)

overall I had a lot of fun even tho my mom and I got hit with rain since day 3 concert was in the middle of a storm lololol (eric and chris both told us thank you for coming in the storm and to be safe 🥹) I really had fun this kcon I was sad it was over but I met some nice ppl and had good seats all 3 days down on the first floor it was so cool to be so close on all days 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I’ll def post some pictures soon once I’ve gone through my videos

thank you for sending skz siyuan!! <3333 so I think my favorite era was god’s menu and maybe maniac era now too. reasons being 2020 skz is one of my favorite years for them, and also they helped me a lot to get through the start of the pandemic. maniac era is my other favorite bc it was the start of my love with the maniac tour (I ended up going to the maniac tour 7 times through 2022-23 and each time it was magical and I’m so happy and blessed I got to see them so many times 🥰)

favorite concept for them I believe is a mix between the apocalyptic stuff they’ve done like side effects and scars (and now social path) and I also love the chill and/or cozy vibes they’ve had in things like fnf, the view, blueprint and tmt and things like that. I like when they do mvs like that a lot

favorite album is hard—and you may know that already—for me but I think again GO LIVE is still my favorite album of theirs and also I’ll mention I Am Who?, ODDINARY, and 5 STAR now

Which kpop group or solo artist's fan cam do you usually watch? 😄

omg i'm really not that biased when it comes to fancams it really solely depends on the song or the choreography rather than the group for me! usually i'd do like one performance (from m2 or kbs because those shows air earliest usually lol) where i watch for every member and then after if i really like a dancer and the song is good i might watch stages for that person only

if i'm really in the mood though, i totally go down the rabbit hole and spend hours just watching one group's fancams across all eras but i have to be really into their choreography or curious about their dancing

i do have a small choreo rule though where i don't really watch individual fancams for dances that focus on creating big picture type moves because those don't look as nice when you're hyper focused on one person, it's more interesting and cool when you see it fully so in cases like this i might watch for my bias if i REALLY like the song lol but usually i skip over those and stick to the dance practice or maybe the full group stage fancam

i mentioned before but like i'm kinda strange in the way that choreography really affects how much i like a song because if i can see the dance in my head while i'm listening to the music it makes it more fun for me and i end up repeating the song a ton jsahfjkdsf and this is absolutely why kpop dominates my wrapped every year

that post i made was after watching the svt hot fancams lol because they just came back and i was so curious about the dance i was just waiting for music bank to drop and also because hoshi is one of my favorite performers in kpop i love his dancing style and if you've never watched his fancams i really recommend one like his recent hot ones are good and i also like the ones for fear but like literally any song is probably fine he's just so good

and because it's still so fresh in my mind i have to say it cuz i had a "binge watching fancams across all eras" moment with verivery recently and i'm obsessed with their dance formation i'm obsessed with how they showcase their members style by rotating through a core of 3 strong dancers (for dance focused parts in the song, other members have time to center their parts too which is nice esp gyehyeon i see him often lol) and i just have a lot to say but i know my rambling has already made this answer way too long just know i am in love

like either they're insanely lucky or they are insanely good at picking out their choreographies omg but obviously i did search for their choreographers and they have worked with a lot of good ones like i'm really in love because i don't think kpop groups do formations like this anymore and they do such a good job and they have the stable dancers to flex it!! i wish they had more second week fancams ahhh

Let's talk about ships!!

First off, I post a lot about ships here, always have. 9/10 times to me that means these two are close look how cute they are.

Ships have always helped me get into new groups. It's way easier for me to like and care about someone if I see other doing it: i/e look how affectionate kangmin is😭 what a sweetheart💕 and then I get all warm and mushy and BAM that's a bias

And no I don't think all ships are secretly in a relationship....that's not how it works. There's only been like 3 times when I 👀👀👀 Like what's going on there. But that's not kpop ships are to me

Also two people having a ship name makes it a thousand times easier to find content about them (even if it's not "shipping" oriented)

Now I totally understand not liking ships when it goes too far. I'm assuming that's what all ship haters are talking about. I've been around here for a long time so ofc I've seen dumb fans lowkey put a strain on members relationship. BUT there is a Big gap between those two! Me posting some gifs here, someone writing fanfics is not gonna get back to them. It's the people scream ship names at them at fansigns and send things in their Twitter replies.

Also people getting into fight over ships is not it. I don't care if they ship your fav with someone that's not your otp. Just walk away.

So I 100% support non toxic shipping!! It's a big creative outlet for a lot of people and I dont think anyone should shame anyone for that! Draw your favs cuddling! Get that seratonin when they hug! The world is crazy and if something makes you happy, dont let anyone stop you💖
