confronting eternity
synopsis: an immortal god and a traveler sit down for a meal and a chat.
wc: 817
pairing: immortal god!yongseung (verivery) x immortal!reader
genre: historical fantasy, slight angst, comfort if you squint
warnings: existential af (but this is one of my fics, you knew that), do not take this to be 100% historically accurate, loosely based off of genshin
Tumblr media
you gaze at the feast in front of you in awe, with plates full of food neatly arranged on your table. of course, yongseung could afford the best, even in mortal form.
from the rooftop restaurant you were currently in, you had a beautiful view of the light-filled city, bustling with activity as sunset approached.
"my, what a pleasure it is to be invited by a god for dinner. thank you, again.”
he chuckles. "believe me, the pleasure is all mine. i know you saved my nation from calamity, so it’s the least i could do. i’m glad we could finally sit down for a proper meal.”
"yongseung, there's no need to thank me, it was the right thing to do," you say with a smile, beginning to fill your plate with various foods. “it's just nice to talk like this. i know we’re always so busy, especially you. ”
he sighs, and stares briefly at the vast expanse of hills, especially vibrant during the spring.
"sometimes i wish i weren't. thousands of years of work can be quite taxing on the soul."
the waiter stops by your table with two cups of hot tea and a kettle, and you briefly stop conversation to bow politely. you take a sip, relishing its taste. even after all this time traveling, your love for any sort of tea remains constant.
"oh, you old man! when you have the chance, you should travel the world with me—there's quite a lot to see."
yongseung raises an eyebrow. "you're quite old too, remember? but maybe i will take you up on your offer one day, if i feel comfortable to leave my nation in the hands of the people."
"sightseeing would do you some good. i feel 5,000 years young after running around all sorts of worlds! only the heavens know how long it's been since i've visited another..."
you stop yourself before you go on another one of your excited (and nostalgic) rambles. yongseung's still listening to you intently, though.
he carefully takes a sip of his own tea. "and here i thought you were just an ordinary human traveler when we first met, although i was quickly proven wrong. there is nothing ordinary about what you've been able to accomplish with your powers."
you smile amusedly while trying not to take all the jjajangmyeon noodles. he's busied himself with eating the meat, namely the pork belly.
"eh, everyone thinks so unless i tell them otherwise. you still treated me well regardless. or how should i put this, normally. i'm thankful for that. and in many ways, i'm no better than a mortal until i complete my goal on this planet."
it's a little sad, really. you miss your sibling. you've never lost sight of why you started your journey across the various nations of this world in the first place.
the god stares at you, his face containing traces of melancholy. "how selfish of me to say, but i find eternity to be a little less unbearable when you're here."
ah, what a sap. you love him, though. he's not so tough when you're around.
"then, i'm glad my time on this world has not been a waste."
at the start of your journey, you had told yourself that you wouldn't make many attachments to those you met, as it would make it harder to leave.
first and foremost, you wanted your sibling by your side so that you could traverse the galaxy together again. you just happened to help people along the way—nothing too deep.
but things were a little different with yongseung. despite being one of the gods that helped oversee korea and its people, he was someone you could now call a dear friend. the thought of saying "goodbye" to him, even if it only had to be temporarily, wasn't a fun one.
you've gotten used to encountering him every so often, studying some book or on a walk to clear his mind from all of his duties.
he smiles peacefully, and you're glad to see the expression. "i'll always remind you that your time is well spent with me."
at that, you pause to take in the rustling of the wind, the beautiful colors of sunset, the design on your napkin, and the reflective glint of yongseung's cubical necklace charm.
to think, that you might never have this exact view again. it's quite a bittersweet feeling, thinking that the day would come where you would leave earth. yongseung's well aware of this too, but logically, there was no point in thinking about it so much.
it'll be a long while before that day comes, as there are still so many questions for you to answer about this world.
so, until you have to move on again, you'll both cherish the memories you've made together. and maybe, just for a while, this can be eternity for you.
a/n: oh dear lord this is way overdue for @restlessmaknae's coexistence collab. i underestimated how tired this year would make me. i'm not that dissatisfied with the fic, but i wish my brain could come up with better sentences sometimes. i was thinking about how some people stay in one place their whole lives and how others move around so often, and how they would each perceive the other type of person. it's so different, isn't it? just food for thought. and also, my fantasy brainrot is too much.
as always, please reblog and like to support your content creators!

You don’t have a plus one for the prom-themed uni party you’re organising as a member of the student council, but Dongheon sets you up with Hoyoung who might actually become more than just a stranger who saves you from boredom during that night.
➳ Characters: uni student!Hoyoung x uni student!reader/you
➳ Genre: fluff, comedy, university au
➳ Words: 6.3k
➳ Warning: -
➳ Taglist: @dat-town
➳  A/N: I don’t know about you, but Hoyoung radiates warmth and comfort to me, so here’s a really cute and comforting story for you all. I hope it brings you some joy. ❤️
Sometimes, you wish for nothing more than to just lie down, close your eyes and rest for about a few days before any duty calls you ever again. Obviously, you can’t do that when you’re in finals week, and you’re also in the last stage of the university party preparation that you - alongside the other student council members - would want to make as enjoyable as possible.
Thankfully, the head of the student council - Lee Dongheon - is as prompt as always, and as the Leadership and Management master student as he is, he manages the preparation to the best of his ability. That doesn’t mean that everything goes as smoothly as you’ve wanted to, starting from the fact that you had to go buy half of the decorations in person a day before because the party props company can’t deliver in time due to high demand, not to mention the DJ you’ve invited falling ill and having to find someone to take his place a few days ago and some other, mild mishaps along the way.
After a poll that you’ve sent out to all students, it was decided that the student council would organise a prom-themed party, so it would be a more formal event which students can dress up for, come together with their significant order or just enjoy themselves with their friends as their requested song is being played by the DJ.
Though for that to happen, you really need to be done with the decorations as fast as possible, so you should probably stop overcatastrophising everything and finally put on that garland that you’ve been holding in your hand for the past few minutes.
“Hey! Need some help with that?” As expected, Dongheon is right there in a second with a small ladder in one hand, pointing at the decoration in your hand.
“Oh, thanks. I think I’ll manage. I was just waiting for you to finish with that side, so that I could have the ladder.”
“Oh yeah, sure. Don’t want a petite girl to suffer without a ladder,” Dongheon teases like the jokester he is, but you can’t be mad at him even if you hold your hand up as if you were about to hit him in the shoulder.
“Not everyone is as much of a giant as you are,” you counter-attack, a light laugh escaping your lips as you two exchange a glance before Dongheon sets up the ladder, putting it close to the wall, so that you would have an easier time assembling the decoration.
“So, do you already have your plus one for the prom?” The head of the student council asks casually as he’s holding the ladder, so that it would stay secure while you’re standing on it.
“No. I don’t have a boyfriend,” you answer nonchalantly as you attach a set of garlands to the wall. You turn back to look at him, motioning to him to hold up another set of garlands for you, but he’s too busy whining.
“Oh, come on! You’ve really organised this whole party just for others to enjoy?”
“I’ll go with my friends, that’s fine,” you reassure him firmly because you really don’t mind not having a plus one even though Yerin would go with Minchan and Hari would probably leave your side 5 seconds into arrival because she’s on a lookout for hot single guys on campus. That’s fine though; you’ve organised this whole prom-themed party with couples and singles in mind, so you can just sip on your punch by the corner and monitor if everything’s going fine.
“Now, the garlands,” you emphasise, and Dongheon lets out a semi-exaggerated sigh before reaching into the nearby box and giving you another set of garlands while you’re moving with the ladder alongside the wall.
You - very wrongly - assume that he will just let it slide, but about a paper lantern and a star-shaped decoration later, he suddenly speaks up.
“I’ll get you a plus one. You’re in your second year, right?” He asks even though Dongheon knows such information about everyone in the student council like the back of his hand. He even knows your birthdays which is pretty nice of him because he always gets something small for everyone. On the flipside, when he’s upset or dissatisfied with something, no one dares to speak to him because he’s like a ticking time bomb. Though he’s nice most of the time, so it’s not that big of a deal (and he’s definitely not as scary as rumours make him out to be).
“Yeah.”
“Good. I have a friend in second year who probably doesn’t have a date either. He’s always too busy taking care of others instead of himself,” he chatters with a reprimanding edge to his tone as if it was something horrendous.
“Sounds a lot like you.”
“Hey! You don’t want to see the currently dying plants in my room, okay?” Dongheon replies in a semi-serious state, but you both find yourself smiling afterwards. You turn back to the wall to attach a paper heart and as you do so, you blurt out:
“You don’t have to do that though. I’m fine without a guy.”
“Weeell, but I’ve really wanted to set him up for some time, and he’s a great guy, I promise,” he mentions, and it’s like he’s justifying himself already, and he’s so dramatic about it - all puppy eyes and pouts and a disheartened tone - as if his life depended on it. Knowing him, he probably does have sleepless nights over not being able to set up one of his friends with anyone.
“Fiiiine,” you say and let out a long sigh, getting off the leader in the meantime. As you reach the ground, you turn to face the now-grinning Dongheon. “But only if he wants to do it himself.”
“He’s dying to come, I can confirm.”
And so that’s a deal. Two days before the actual prom, Dongheon gives you the guy’s number, so that you could message each other and find each other on the day of the party, but little do you know, that night turns out way more different than you would have imagined.
Tumblr media
When the results of the poll came back, and it turned out that most students voted for a prom-themed uni party at the end of the spring semester, you didn’t think much of it. Yet, as you’re looking down at your plain dress and your flat-heeled shoes because there’s no way you would spend hours in high heels, you feel a bit out of place. This party doesn’t seem like somewhere you belong, and you start to get extra anxious as you’re waiting for your plus one by the noticeboard in the hallway (a convenient place to meet up because probably nobody waits here other than you).
Dongheon has told you that his friend - Bae Hoyoung - is a really nice guy, he’s kind and considerate and very loving towards his younger friends, so he thinks you couldn’t have ended up with a better plus one. You don’t know how much of it is exaggeration when he claims that Hoyoung is a real gentleman and a handsome one on top of that because Dongheon likes to exaggerate, but you let him be.
No matter how cool his friend is based on the texts you exchange before the party, you start to question why you’ve decided to give in even though your friends were so happy to hear that you were about to meet a boy. Though the chances were very low that you would end up keeping in touch with your plus one after the event because you’ve never been lucky with boys, so why would he be an exception?
No wonder you find yourself nibbling on your lower lip as you’re waiting for Hoyoung, both anxious and restless, but when he walks up to you in a gorgeous suit and casual Converse sneakers (they at least match the black and white colour of his pants and shirt), you become a bit speechless. Surely, you have seen his profile picture on Kakaotalk, but that doesn’t do justice to how tall he is in real life, and you certainly didn’t notice the cute moles dotting his face on that picture as opposed to now. Even his smile is light like a feather, and the way the wrinkles around his eyes deepen when he’s smiling makes your heart take a silly little turn.
“Hey!” He greets you in a friendly manner, coming to a halt beside you. He’s towering above you a bit, but it’s not in an intimidating way, so you don’t feel uncomfortable.
“Hi!” You greet him back, feeling a bit silly over checking him out from head to toe a moment ago. What can you do though? His profile picture isn’t a full-body one. In fact, half of the picture isn’t even him but a white furball, probably his dog, so you could only see his face in the photo.
“Sorry about the shoes. I forgot that I don’t have dress shoes with me in the dorms,” he apologises immediately as he’s looking down at his pair of Converse.
“Oh, it’s totally fine. Don’t worry about it! It’s not like I dressed up as if I came to a real prom.”
“You look pretty,” he blurts out casually, but your lips part in bewilderment because you didn’t see such a comment coming so soon, and you need to remind yourself to function properly. You end up mumbling something akin to a thanks, and prompt you two to step inside the gym hall where the party takes place.
It turns out that the gym hall is packed with people, so much that you feel like you step on someone’s shoes every second as you’re trying to get closer to the centre of it with Hoyoung by your side. Which is great because it means you didn’t work for nothing, but it also means that you have a hard time finding any spot where you can dance without worrying about bumping into someone’s back or chest, and even when you do, it’s almost impossible to keep up a conversation because the music is so loud.
You dance for a bit though without saying a word, but it gets a bit awkward just smiling at each other and trying to move left and right without smacking someone, and you can feel that Hoyoung is thinking the same. You didn’t really come here just to dance, you aren’t even that good at it, but it’s impossible to do anything else because of the loud music.
“Don’t you want to-” You start saying, leaning closer to him, so that he could hear what you say, and he’s doing the same, so your faces are only inches apart. You blink rapidly, gulping down the nervous knot in your throat, trying not to pay too much attention to his beautiful, warm orbs that remind you of fall: of colourful leaves creating a carpet under your feet, of a cup of warm tea on a chilly night, of the smell of summer parting and a new season coming up and the bittersweet feeling of the cycle of nature moving forwards.
Your breath hitches in your throat for a moment because he does have beautiful eyes, and it’s hard to look away because they are like a magnet, but you’re saved by the boy’s question, his hot breath fanning over your neck as he’s leaning towards your ear.
“Should we go outside?” He asks with a raised voice, trying to speak over the volume of the currently blasted song.
You nod immediately, then turn around to leave the dance floor. As you’re doing so, you check back from time to time to see if Hoyoung’s still following you and you haven’t lost him in the meantime, and the third time you do so, you end up colliding with someone. You and the stranger both apologise, so you can move on, but you feel Hoyoung’s fingers over your wrist, giving it a slight pressure, his eyes asking if you’re okay when you look at him.
You try to reassure him with a bob of your head and a friendly smile, and thankfully, there are no further mishaps as you’re making your way outside of the hall. You just get to the corridor when you catch sight of Dongheon checking something on his phone while walking towards the doors of the gym hall. He only looks up when Hoyoung says hi, but when he does, boy, he’s grinning.
“Hey, you two! Is everything alright?”
“Apart from the music causing us ear damage?” Hoyoung replies immediately, his tone semi-playful. Dongheon’s smile falters a bit but only a tiny bit.
“Oh no! I’ve told the dude to keep the volume at a decent level,” he shakes his head in disapproval, and you can already foresee the master student’s first to-do when he gets inside the gym hall. “Anyways, where are you going?” He quirks an eyebrow, curious, and it’s you this time who answers him.
“Just somewhere where we can talk, I guess?” You say, a bit uncertain, sending a side-glance in Hoyoung’s direction who reassuringly smiles back at you. You immediately find yourself mirroring his action, and it may be because of this or the fact that you two are leaving the main party to have a conversation, but the head of the student council is more than delighted either way.
“Ooooh, you’re talking now!” He wiggles his eyebrows at you as if it could mean anything. “That’s great! Well, have fun!” He wishes with a wide grin, and as he’s walking past you two, he pats Hoyoung’s shoulder. You furrow your eyebrows, look at the boy beside you, and giggle when you see his reaction.
“He’s just weird,” he mentions as if that could explain anything, but even his lips curl upwards. Considering how Dongheon has said that he has wanted to set up his friend with someone for a long time now, you can guess why he might be like an excited parent who sends his kids off to school, realising how much they’ve grown up, but you try to tell yourself that it’s nothing like that. You would just merely prefer talking somewhere quiet instead of being smacked every second by someone around you and completely not hearing the other because the DJ is too loud.
“Soooo… should we walk in the park beside campus or…” Your voice trails off by the end, and you expectantly look at the pitch-black haired boy beside you, hoping that he might help you out.
“Yeah, that’s a good idea.” He nods, smiling, and it’s really adorable how his eyes become little crescents when he does so, his dimples deepening. You’ve always had a thing for dimples, and you can’t help but smile widely at him when his dimples literally pop out. You need to remind yourself not to stare too much at him, so you focus on your steps instead, looking ahead of you as you’re making your way to the nearby park.
Tumblr media
The park which you’ve agreed on is only a few-minute walk from the main building of your campus, and given the later hour and the fact that the students who want to be at school right now are in the gym hall, not a lot of people roam around in the park. While it’s not prohibited for non-students to enter it, the majority of people are still students. No wonder why because it’s such a picturesque sight with the little lake in the middle of it with some ducks, the colourfully painted benches and the vividly green grass where groups can have lovely picnics in the shade of the magnificent oak trees.
“I love coming here, especially during exam season. It seems like such a different world from campus even though it’s so close. It’s good to clear your mind sometimes like this,” Hoyoung muses out loud, and you don’t even think twice before you say:
“Exactly! I totally feel the same way,” you mention enthusiastically, and you immediately feel so silly for sounding so pumped up even though the boy beside you is nothing but kind. He might look intimidating to others with his elegantly parted, pitch-black hair, the sharpness of his jawline and his mature features, but when he smiles, his whole face lights up, and his voice is full of life when he speaks.
“So Dongheon has said that you two work together in the student council.”
“Oh yeah. We know each other from there,” you bob your head, remembering back to the first time you met him, and how he has helped you with a lot of academic-stuff, especially when you just joined the council in your first year. “I’ve thought that he’s a really strict and stern guy, but it couldn’t have been further from the truth,” you admit with a little giggle that the boy simply mirrors.
“I can see why. Even when he has his neutral face, he looks a bit intimidating, but really, he’s just a big baby. Sometimes I feel like I’m the older one out of the two of us,” Hoyoung laughs a joyous laughter, and you join him, letting the early summer night carry the sound of your laughter around the park.
You let silence cover you for some time, but it’s not embarrassing or awkward. It’s more than comforting, actually. Yet, now that you’ve brought up Dongheon who has actually set you two up, you can’t help but ask:
“Why is he so obsessed with setting you up?”
“That’s a good question.” Hoyoung chuckles. “He’s just like ‘oh, Hoyoung, dude, you deserve a girl, I’ll get you one’ because he thinks I spend too much time helping others when in fact I think I just do things because they are the bare minimum?” He mimics Dongheon’s tone and it’s so hilarious, you laugh out loud. Then, he goes on to explain that it might be because he’s learned how to help others because he has 5 siblings, so he knows the importance of assisting others without being directly asked to. It makes sense, but at the same time, you’re truly in awe, and you’re sure that he’s a great brother himself.
However, as you talk about your families and non-existent love life that Dongheon likes to point out, you have a question on your mind, and you decide to blurt it out in the end:
“Do you feel like you need someone in your life?”
“Well, that’s a complex question,” the boy starts with a tilt of his head, contemplating.
“Says the Sociology major, I see,” you mention, and gosh, when have you turned playful? Hoyoung doesn’t mind though, in fact, he gives you a dimpled smile before his features smoothen out and his tone becomes more serious.
“I don’t really feel like there’s this void that needs to be filled with someone’s presence, you know?” He looks at you for confirmation, and you nod. “I believe that a romantic relationship should be about having someone to rely on, having someone you can take care of and feeling safe and comfortable beside them instead of feeling like they are your whole world, so when they may leave, your whole world shatters. It may sound egoistic but I feel this way, and for that reason, I don’t feel like I’m missing someone from my life, but it’s not that I would object if I fell in love.”
His words are mature and articulate, and you don’t know why, but you get surprised by how aware he is of his own feelings. You know how in today’s society, you’re almost being looked down on if you don’t have a significant other because it might indicate that you aren’t good enough, and a lot of people actively look for love because of that. There’s nothing wrong with looking for love, but just like the boy has said, you aren’t of the same opinion as others.
“No, no, that’s something I can relate to. I mean…” You decide to put in your two cents whilst you’re at it, but you need a few more seconds to put together your reasoning. “I’ve had crushes in the past, but my crushes never liked me back, and if I had let the rejections get to me, I would have felt really unlovable and probably would still do so. So I also think that preserving your autonomy while still being open to let someone in is what’s probably the healthiest option for me.”
You believe in love, you really do, but your experience has proven to you that you’re good the way you are, and you shouldn’t let others’ lack of romantic feelings towards you change anything about your self-worth. Especially because you can’t force feelings onto someone, you know that all too well.
“It’s not your fault that they didn’t like you back. The right one will do so,” Hoyoung adds gently, and you feel your heart thaw at his words. When you look him in the eyes, you can see the small version of the moon reflecting in his deep, dark orbs, and you think it’s beautiful; how he shines like sunshine with the moon in his eyes.
“It got deep pretty quickly, didn’t it?” The boy chuckles, breaking the precious moment, but you don’t even mind because you’re sure your feelings are written all over your face, so you’re glad when you can talk about topics other than love.
As you continue your stroll, accompanied by the slight buzz of the party and the sounds of the city that never sleeps, you end up talking about why you have joined the student council and stories regarding Dongheon and his student council duties, Hoyoung calling his friend out, saying that Dongheon usually calls him to vent to him when something goes wrong. Then, you also talk about your majors, why you’ve chosen them, whether you like them or not and what your favourite classes are this semester, and it’s lovely listening to someone who’s so curious and intellectual and able to share his opinion without putting down the other’s.
When you reach the lake, you stop for a while and sit down on a bench, and your heart yet again skips a beat when Hoyoung covers your legs with his suit jacket. Gosh, Dongheon was actually right about him being a real gentleman and taking extra care of others! Still, the gesture makes you blush really hard, so you’re glad that the nearby lamp posts radiate only dim lights because you wouldn’t want the boy to see your burgundy face.
Yet, getting away from the party means getting away from the food and drinks, so since you’ve already walked further from the gym hall, you don’t go back for that, you opt for a café on campus instead. While waiting for your sandwiches and drinks and while eating, you continue talking about common topics, but with him, even those seem special because he’s actually interested in your answer, and ready to share his opinion. It’s not a forced small talk you’re so terrible at, it’s actually an active conversation, and you have a hard time believing that you can feel this way around someone even if you’ve met him for the first time.
No wonder you feel the need to express your gratitude towards the boy when you finish your dinner and head to the dorms together.
“Well, I’ve really enjoyed today. I think our kind of prom was better than the actual one.”
“I promise I won’t tell Dongheon that you’ve said this,” Hoyoung jokes, making you laugh, and it’s such a lovely way to end this lovely night. You don’t have high hopes or anything of the sort for whatever that is between you and the boy, but your smile is genuine when later on, you wave him goodbye as you’re heading towards your room, and you know well that you wouldn’t have traded your kind of prom for anything else.
Tumblr media
Dongheon might not have heard what you’ve said about the prom, but he has sure heard that you had a good time with his friend (from both Hoyoung and you), so he casually sends some so-called boyfriend material photos of his friend over to you one day without any explanation, and when you ask him why, he merely sends a shrugging emoji. You guess that he hasn’t been subtle to his friend either because Hoyoung ends up messaging you a few hours later, telling you not to take Dongheon seriously no matter what he says about him or what he sends.
“He just sent me some ‘boyfriend material’ photos of you. Wanna see them?”
“I’m going to strangle him one day, but sure.”
So you send him those pictures, mainly of him sipping on something at a café while looking out of the window dreamily, walking down the street in a puffy coat and a scarf, wearing an oversized hoodie with the hood over his head and holding a painting in his hands as if he was trying to show it off. Along the way, he ends up telling you stories that are related to the pictures, you even get to know that he painted that landscape in his hands, it was actually a painting workshop with an instructor during last semester, and when Dongheon asked what he did over the weekend, and he told the older boy about it, he was very keen on seeing the final product, so he sent the pic over to him.
“I didn’t think that he would keep them. :(”
“Now you know. Better be careful from now on.”
You type and send him an emoji where one of the Kakaotalk characters pat the other on the back, and you get a hugging emoji in return, and you’re so shocked that for a moment, you completely freeze.
“Oh, my bad, that was by accident. I’ve wanted to send this one.”
He replies a few seconds later with an emoji that’s bowing and thank you is written over its head. You tell him that he shouldn’t worry, but you need some serious amount of time to calm down your nerves.
It’s fun though, things fall back into normal afterwards, and actually, it’s not even that weird talking to the boy yet again. It almost seems natural, and since you two are both busy university students finishing finals, it’s not like you’re bombarding each other with messages. Yet, you can’t deny that you get an instant serotonin boost whenever you see that he has messaged you, and soon enough, your friends start teasing you about it. Yerin is being her kindest self as always, telling you just how much you would deserve a guy who likes you back while Hari starts moping that Dongheon should set her up with someone if he has so many single friends because he needs a boyfriend ASAP.
You tell them that it’s not like that, you’re just getting to know each other, but it seems awfully like a crush yet again, especially when summer break comes, and you two keep messaging each other. When the fall semester comes, you can’t wait to see him face-to-face, so when you manage to bump into him in the hallway or he lands Dongheon something in the student council office and you’re there, you feel like a silly high school student yet again, fanning over her first crush.
Then, he asks if you could take part in a project he’s doing for one of his classes and he needs to have interviews with students on how their childhood experiences shaped the way they feel towards socialising as they grow older, and in return, he treats you to a thank you lunch a few days later. After that, you lose track of the times you meet up, let it be for a quick lunch break between classes, studying together in the library or just randomly bumping into him in the hallway.
While getting to know each other through messages, random meet-ups and sometimes Dongheon’s intervening, you feel yourself falling for him more and more. You can’t help it, but this time, instead of falling head first, it seems like you’re falling gradually, and you don’t know which one is scarier. So you just let it be, enjoying your time beside the boy until you’re sure of his feelings towards you, and as time goes by, you’re less and less scared of falling.
Tumblr media
With you two staying in contact over the weeks and all throughout the fall semester, it’s no surprise that Hoyoung knows when you take your exams, but you wish he didn’t remember so well when you feel under the weather after taking one of your exams, sitting on the top of the service stairs that not so many people frequent. That’s exactly what you need right now, and even when he messages you, asking about the exam and you tell him that you might have failed it, you don’t expect him to actually show up when he asks where you are.
There he is though, standing in front of you, eyes shining with worry as he’s looking back at you. You look down at your shoes instead, not ready to mope or vent to him. You see from the corner of your eyes when he moves towards you and sits down beside you, letting out a long sigh.
“What do you do when you want to cheer yourself up?”
“I watch funny videos sometimes,” you mumble under your breath, but you don’t feel like doing so now. You feel the need to cry, but no tears come out. Maybe it’s because you’re also partly angry, not just disappointed.
“Well…” He grits through his teeth as he’s thinking. “I’ll show you something better,” he announces, determined, as he reaches into the pocket of his hoodie, taking his phone out. You turn your head to look at him, slightly curious despite your state, and when he glances sideways and catches your eyes on him, his lips curl up a bit.
He turns back to his phone though and taps a few times on the screen before sitting closer to you and placing his phone in between you two, so that you could see what it is about. You immediately feel your features softening up when you catch sight of the fluffball on the screen.
“My sister said that she was trying to teach Deulle a trick, but it didn’t quite work out,” Hoyoung explains, smiling, as the video shows his sister’s dog going in circles around a small object that it’s supposed to jump over. The female voice in the video practically begs the dog to just jump, but instead, Deulle stops, staring at its owner, blinking frequently as if it doesn’t understand what’s going on. It’s going on for a few more times with the dog almost jumping over the object once, but in the end, it just decides to lie down on the grass, completely exhausted.
By the end of the video, there’s an evident smile in the corner of your lips, and seeing that, Hoyoung’s shoulders drop in ease.
“You’re too nice,” you blurt out, touched by the way he came over to cheer you up despite him having an exam a bit later. “You’re too good for me,” you admit, letting the words slip without thinking twice. It’s true though; ever since you’ve met him, you feel like you don’t deserve him, and in moments like this, you feel it even more intensively.
“Don’t say that,” the boy objects immediately, turning towards you with his whole body. Since he has scooted closer to you, so that you could look at his phone from up close, you two are pretty close to each other, but instead of intimidating, his closeness makes you feel comforted. To know that he’s just an arm length away. “You’ve also been there for me every time I was down in the past few months. It’s what people do when they care about each other,” he explains as if it was something so easy to say out loud, but he seems sincere nevertheless.
You don’t say anything, your heart is too burdened for that, so you just keep looking at him. He scoots a bit closer to you, slowly and gently, leaning closer to look you in the eyes. You feel bashful under his stare, but you don’t dare to look away.
“What is it about?” Hoyoung asks gently, his words barely a whisper. With no one around you since you’re sitting on the staircase leading up to the staff room, you feel like this moment is yours only. Something so precious yet so fragile, something that could easily break into tiny little pieces in a matter of seconds. “Do you feel this way because you might have failed your test, and you think you could appear less of a good person to me because of that?”
“I-” You start to protest, but you can’t find the right words to say. You look away, frustrated over not being able to put your feelings into words, but when you look back at him, he’s looking at you as patient as ever. “I think I just feel like… you know, there must have been something wrong with me, some flaws why people I liked in the past didn’t like me back, and I guess, I don’t know… It just crossed my mind that maybe one day you would see that too because I do that. When one thing goes wrong, I overcatastrophise and feel that everything could go wrong and I just… Gosh, that’s why I like being alone at times like this,” you rumble on and on, and by the end, you feel yourself tearing up, and you feel so pathetic, it’s not how you’ve expected this day to go.
You sniffle as you look away from him, not being able to bear his ever so warm eyes. You hate being vulnerable beside others, and it’s not like failing a test is a really big thing. Sure, it might be your first time failing an exam, but there are people out there with bigger problems, and you feel like a fraud mopping over your life in comparison to that. Plus, just as you’ve said, when this happens, suddenly you feel like a failure, someone who can’t do anything, who’s not worth anything, and a lot of times, a good cry helps to soothe your nerves, but you don’t want to cry in front of him. You don’t want to appear silly and overly emotional.
“I could bring up some theories and tell you how what you’re feeling is completely fine because I guess that’s what a Sociology major should do,” he interrupts your guilt tripping train of thoughts, and it works, you’re so surprised by his words that you find yourself completely frozen, the tears not coming out. He really has a way to shift the mood with his words, and you’re both in awe and in shock. “Let me tell you instead that if someone doesn’t like you because you’re flawed just as we all are, then you’re better off without them. It won’t stop me from liking you though.”
Now you’re even more surprised than before, and your eyes must be super wide when you turn your head towards him because his facial expression turns from stern to gentle instead. He looks away for a bit, scratching the back of his neck a bit sheepishly before looking back at you, ruffling his hair afterwards. You’ve noticed that he tends to do something with his hands when he gets nervous, and he’s trying to busy his hands today too, and you wonder just how much it must have taken him to say those words out loud. This time, it’s not the moon you see in his eyes but your own tiny reflection, and you also wonder how he really sees you.
“I’m being sincere,” he adds quietly yet confidently. He gulps once before he continues, and you can literally feel the same kind of nervousness he does, your heart threatening to jump out of your rib cage, so expectant and so giddy. “I like you, and I was trying to tell you for some time, but I guess I’ve waited for the right time, and this is definitely not the right time, not even the right place,” he points out sheepishly as he looks around once, and it’s so true, you find a small giggle bubbling up in your throat. He follows, and gosh, it’s so awkward yet it’s so right. You wouldn’t have had it another way.
“Thank you,” you say as you crush him into a hug, feeling bold and confident and all that. You aren’t even sure that it’s you anymore, but he has just confessed that he likes you! He actually likes you. “Thank you for liking me back,” you mumble into his neck as you’re hugging him, and you can feel his arms coming up to your back, closing his arms around you, tight and safe, comforting and warm as if he was trying to whisper it’s all okay, he’s right there with you.
Even though you could only hope that he would be right when he said that the right one would like you back, now you know that he wasn’t lying. Let you be silly or overly emotional, he doesn’t seem to care. If anything, his love towards you just grows even more.
Because he’s the right one for you. Now you know.

I’m here to talk a lot don’t mind it I’ll be sending a few asks over only 3 since I don’t want to annoy you but I have a thought process that’s thinking very hard
Do you think Hoyoung would be a soft dom? I say this since I’ve been constantly thinking about him a lot and I really think he would be the sweetest soft dom ever just very romantic and passionate but also imagine if he was a hard dom,, I think he has hard dom tendencies but is primarily soft dom.
-🍓
anon my head HURTIN with this one.
i see hoyoung as a soft dom with very slight hard dom tendencies?
he strikes me as someone who’s just more into the wanting to be close and make love with his s/o rather than just fucking cause they can. he wants to take his time with you and he wants to feel you. the slight hard tendencies i think are he wants to bring some kind of light bondage into play? but he wants it all pretty :( i’m thinking soft silk ribbon the match the pretty lingerie you bought for him? yes. i see him so gently kissing you when he sees what you’re wearing, carefully taking everything off and bringing you into his lap so you could ride him while you’re kissing. he just wants to hold you close :(( a lot of praise too!! while you’re riding him and he says “oh angel, you’re so pretty.” and all you can do is answer with moans and whimpers of his name but that’s okay because he knows it means that you like it :)

Lee Dong Heon
(Dongheon - VERIVERY)
Deck: E. A. Poe
Spread: Relationship Role
Friend - 0 The Fool, XV The Devil
Dongheon is a little mischievous friend. He’s likely to tease and manipulate his friends often, pull pranks on them and encourage them to misbehave and take risks. He’s likely popular but somewhat his presence always means that troubles are about to happen.
Boyfriend - 9 of Pentacles, 9 of Cups
While dating Dongheon is likely to be generous with his time, money and affection. He’s likely to spoil his significant other with gifts, meals and activities. Dongheon is likely to be an attentive and cheerful boyfriend, always responding to any SOS call.
Lover - 3 of Cups, Queen of Swords
Lover Dongheon is a bit of an ice queen. He likes to be seduced in a sophisticated way. He won’t warm up to blunt and ordinary flattering, he demands his lover to try hard for his attention. Once the icy armour melts down, Dongheon becomes the most loving and responsive man alive. He’s likely very vocal and if handled right, he will turn into a puddle by his lover’s feet.
Husband - IX The Hermit, Page of Cups
Dongheon might not feel like a husband material as of now. He hasn’t matured to this level just yet. It’s likely he would find the marriage boring and way too oppressive for his free spirit. If for some reason he would be forced to get married now, he would likely insist on independent lives with his spouse to a certain degree.
One-Night-Stand - 8 of Swords, 8 of Cups
Dongheon is unlikely to enjoy the benefits of short-term affairs. He’s simply not interested enough, they seem way too shallow for his taste. Dongheon might be a little devil but he’s a complex and sophisticated devil and one night stands seem way too ordinary for his taste. He might try it once just to tick it off from his bucket list but it’s unlikely for him to repeat it.

When you photograph people in color, you photograph their clothes. But when you photograph people in Black and white, you photograph their souls!”
– Ted Grant
Admiring his collection Gyehyeon smiles, he has amassed quite the variety he tells himself.
"Gullible"he laughs derisively, falling for the facade of youth and innocence they make it all too easy. Facilitating his 'hobby' it's like taking candy from a baby he grins. "Time to get to work!" grabbing his camera he walks out the door.
°
Today's destination, the amusement park, always has easy targets there. Commemorating the moment.
Fools, they travel in packs but any good hunter knows how to disperse the group, one of his hidden talents he laughs at loud amused by his own self flattery. The hard part he believes is actually finding the victim who suits his artistic design. The one who intrigues him and the fascination will not fade. That is the true art of any collector.
It's not so much the gender, the facial features or clothing, it's their essence, their soul. His palate is very particular in that regard.
Strolling through the park, it's crowded today he smiles to himself more on the menu he laughs. Rides are bustling with activity as is the food court but aren't they always. Heading to the sideshow alley is always his favourite spot to acquire his victims.
With eagle eyes he spots his quarry, they are jubilant about winning a plush yellow dolphin.
Slowly with confident strides he walks directly towards his next victim.
"Hello" Gyehyeon smiles warmly his youth automatically puts his victim at ease, his poison and he uses it well. "Photo? I guarantee you will never forget this moment" raising his camera.
Zooming in slowly, background is an important component, I have to hold this moment. His lens finds his perfection.
Click, all he needs is one single shot. Impressive he tells himself, smirking with  self congratulatory confidence. All that remains of his victim is a yellow dolphin plushie once prized now laying abandoned on the ground nestled amongst the discarded food items.
The collection room hidden from prying eyes, and why shouldn't it be, it's his collection! Adding his latest prize, immense pleasure pulsates through his body.
The room is covered in photographs, black and white, within each photo a soul is trapped screaming for mercy and help, some continuously sob. Their terrified faces  their screams and sobs an operatic melody to his ears.

iPunk Chapter 1: A Kpop Cyberpunk AU
a/n: surprise release because I couldn't get it off my mind. Do you want more? Do you care about what happens next? Let me know, please! Comments, asks, DMs, anything!
The character of Gray is very personal to me. They're very heavily based on myself, and their struggles (which will be seen later, if I do more), are also based on things I have struggled and am struggling with.
Tumblr media
“Are you there again? You spend too much money there.” I chuckled. “They like me here. And anyway, I’m friends with some of the bartenders. They cut me a deal.”
“Yeah...” Yujin sounded a little worried about me. She always did, really. “Just take care of yourself, alright? I know how hard you’re working.” I glanced down at the digital screen in front of me, which was littered with documents. Yeah, I did sometimes take my work with me to the club. Maybe it was strange, but I found myself having an easier time focusing there sometimes. Maybe it was the alcohol. Maybe it was something else.
“I’m okay,” I said gently. “I promise. I’ll be home late tonight, but it’ll be okay.”
Choi Yujin was my roommate. She was gentle and sweet and funny, and she definitely worried about me too much. We had been friends since we met. We were an odd pair--me, a reporter and writer with dreams of doing something that mattered, and her, an unassuming accountant who worked for a small organization that did what it could to protect what nature was left in this city. But we got along well. And we looked out for each other.
She sighed. “Okay. Just... be safe, alright? If something happened to you, I don’t know what I’d do.” I laughed. “You’d find a new roommate. I’ll talk to you later, Yujin, alright?” I could hear her trying to hide her smile. “Alright, Gray.”
Gray wasn’t the name I was born with, but it was the name I had taken later in my life. One of the nice things about this city was that it didn’t care about you. It didn’t judge you. No one cared who you were with, who you loved, or what you called yourself. I was an adult now, but I was still figuring out a lot of those things about myself. And I liked the name Gray. It felt like it fit me in a way my birth name never had.
I hung up the call and turned back to the bartender. He was smiling at me. “Yujin doing okay?” Dongheon was one of the bartenders that I was friendly with. He was handsome in a soft way, and he was infinitely more thoughtful than most of the other people I was used to interacting with. He had that in common with Yujin.
“She’s fine,” I said, sipping the drink he had just put in front of me. “Just worried, as usual.” I glanced at the drink. “Are you sure I can have this? Seems a little more expensive than what I can--”
Dongheon waved a hand. “You know you don’t need to worry about that. How’s the story going?” I looked down at the digital documents. “Well. Things have been better. They just keep heaping me with pointless work. I want to tell a story that matters.” Dongheon finished making another drink and expertly slid it to another patron. “You will. I know you will. Just hang in there.” He paused. “Oh, and Yujin’s right. You need to take care of yourself. There’s some dangerous people out there.” “I know,” I said. “I’m one of them.”
Dongheon rolled his eyes and walked to the other end of the bar to keep doing his job.
Truthfully, his reaction was correct. I wasn’t dangerous at all. I barely had any cybernetic enhancements at all, and the only weapon I ever carried was a knife or a handgun. Neither of which I had much experience with. I let my talking get me out of trouble. Or, in some cases, into trouble.
Here, though, I felt safe. The Petal was an interesting place. Part bar, part nightclub, part hangout for the BDSM scene, it was the home of some of the most skilled dominatrixes in the city. I had to admit that I took part in their sessions when I could get the money together, but for the most part, I came here because I felt at home.
Argos City was a place comprised of every imaginable type of person, but it was places like this that I felt most comfortable. I did a lot of my writing here. I did a lot of things here--some of them people--and it suited me just fine.
It also helped that I was friends with one of the dominatrixes.
If you had told me that Yeh Shuhua was going to become one of the most skilled BDSM practitioners in the city, I would have never believed you. But she had. And not only that, but she had found five other friends just like her, and truly made a name for herself. I knew they did more than just high class dominant sex work as well. They were deadly--dangerous, highly trained, and entwined with the criminal underworld. But I also knew that they did everything they could to protect the weak and the vulnerable, especially women who were in danger of being taken advantage of.
Like I said, Argos City didn’t judge you. But it sure as hell didn’t care about you either.
“Gray!” A loud voice interrupted my thoughts and I turned to see Shuhua sliding into the bar stool next to me. Usually, they didn’t come and mingle with the regular patrons. You had to pay to enjoy their presence. But Shuhua liked making appearances, and she liked talking to me. “You didn’t tell me you were coming.” “I’m here every night,” I said with a small smile. “That’s why I’m so poor.” She laughed. As always, she looked stunning. Porcelain skin, bright red lips, and perfectly curled black hair. She bore plenty of cybernetic enhancements, but they were of the high-class kind. The kind that couldn’t be seen unless she wanted you to see them. To most of the world, she just looked like a pale-skinned goddess.
“You,” she said, fixing my collar, “look quite handsome. Trying to catch someone’s eye tonight?” I glanced around. “No one particular.” Shuhua winked. “Shame. I bet you’d have a good shot if you did.” I rolled my eyes. “If that’s your sales pitch...” She pressed a finger to my nose and grinned. “You couldn’t handle my sales pitch.”
I rolled my eyes. “I’m sure.” “I’ve seen you in a session with Soyeon, I know all of your--” “Okay!” I said loudly, cutting her off. Just because it was her job didn’t mean I enjoyed the idea of her openly discussing my sexual activities with one (or more) of her friends. “I get it!”
Shuhua giggled. “Someone’s embarrassed.”
I pinched the bridge of my nose. “Was there something you wanted?”
Suddenly she looked a bit more serious. “Well... actually, yes. The other girls wanted to talk to you. There’s something going on that you need to know about.” I looked her sharply. “They want to talk to me?” The Flowers of the Petal, which was what the six (now five) girls were called, rarely talked to patrons. Even ones who were friends of some of them. It was to be something serious.
“It’s better if they explain it,” said Shuhua. “Do you have time?” I drained my drink and glanced at Dongheon. He shrugged and mouthed the words good luck. “I guess so,” I said. “Yujin might be worried but...” “You can tell her later,” said Shuhua, reaching out and taking my hand. “Come with me.”
---
Argos City was a dangerous place. Money was the only language that everyone understood, and the people here would do anything for it. Crime was rampant. Gangs controlled most of the city. And the so-called government and law enforcement were almost wholly corrupt.
As a reporter, I was typically left to cover social events and whatever else the public cared most about. But sometimes, when I had extra time, I tried to write stories that I thought actually mattered. It was a long, slow process, but I had managed a number of stories throughout my time as a writer that I thought had made a difference. But making a difference wasn’t easy in a place like this.
I tried to keep The Petal out of my writing as much as possible. Yes, I knew the Flowers (Soyeon, Miyeon, Minnie, Yuqi, Shuhua, and at one point, Soojin) were technically engaging in criminal activities, but I didn’t see their raids on corporations and other gangs as something that needed to be stopped. They offered people a place to be themselves. They kept at-risk women and other vulnerable people safe. And if they got rich doing it? Well, who I was to care?
Shuhua led me up some backstairs, past a bouncer who had clearly received heavy modifications to his arms and his eyes. Typical security stuff. I had considered it in the past, if only to give me an advantage in my line of work, but I had never gone through with it. Things like that cost money. Most of the heavily modified people in Argos City were either rich or their enhancements were being bankrolled by a corporation.
“Here,” Shuhua said, ushering me toward an elaborate dark door. I had never been in this part of The Petal. The decor was modern, but tasteful. Nothing too extreme. Lots of blacks and white and sharp angles. I wasn’t surprised. “They’re waiting for you.”
I felt nervous. First of all, each of the women were infinitely more powerful than me, both physically and otherwise. If they wanted to, any of them could kill me in a second. Not that they had any reason too... but I had heard rumors about just how deadly they could be. If possible, I wanted to avoid getting anywhere near that sort of thing.
I stepped inside to see the other four women all seated around a jet-black table in the center of the room, looking at me with interest. I swallowed. They had all seen me before, but usually in varying states of submission and nakedness. Which was great, normally. Except now, they all looked very serious. Stony, even.
And gorgeous, as usual.
“Have a seat,” said Minnie. “We need to talk.”
I pulled out one of the seats and sat down without speaking. Yuqi looked at me covered her mouth to hide a smile. “You look nervous? Are you nervous?” I tried to grin back. “When the five most powerful women in this part of Argos say they want to see you...” Yuqi winked. “Would it help if I tied you up?” I blushed a little but didn’t say anything. Miyeon poked Yuqi. “We should tell them what’s going on,” Miyeon said gently. Yuqi pouted at her fun being taken away, but she didn’t say anything further.
Finally, Soyeon spoke. She was ultimately the one I was most familiar with, aside from Shuhua. I had experienced the most sessions with Soyeon. I liked her style, the way she did things, the way she talked to me. She seemed to understand my innermost desires, even before I said them. She was thoughtful and caring--and utterly domineering, when she needed to be.
“Gray, I won’t lie. It’s not good,” she said.
I looked at her with concern. “What... what does that mean?” Soyeon appeared to collect her thoughts before speaking again. “Shuhua told us about what you were investigating. The ties between certain street gangs and certain corporations. The things everyone knows exists but hasn’t proved yet. And as it turns out, we’ve been at war with one of those corporations for awhile now.”
I didn’t understand the problem. “So?”
“So on our last raid, we discovered something,” said Soyeon. “They know what you’re doing. And they think you’re working with us.” “What?” I looked back and forth between the women. “That doesn’t make any sense. I’m just a reporter. I don’t work with anyone.” Shuhua nodded. “Yeah. But you’re friends with me. And you spend a lot of time here. You could see where they might get the idea.”
Ah. That made more sense. And the extent of the danger was only beginning to form in my mind. “Which corporation?” Maybe it was one of the less awful ones. But if the Flowers were stealing from them... then that probably wasn’t the case.
“Hampton Cybersystems,” Soyeon said grimly.
“Oh.”
Shuhua gave my hand a squeeze. “But we’re not going to let them just go after you. If they think you’re already working with us, then we’re going to keep you safe.”
I felt a little unsteady. Hampton Cybersystems was known for sheer ruthlessness and an overall uncaring attitude towards individuals. If there was someone who was acting as an inconvenience to them, they wouldn’t hesitate to immediately kill the person.
“What do I do?” I asked, my mouth suddenly dry.
Miyeon spoke calmly, as she always did. “We’ll keep you out of danger. You don’t need to worry.” “I’m not worried about me,” I said slowly. “I’m worried about Yujin. If they’re following me, they know where I live. And they know I live with her.”
The women all looked at each other. I was surprised that Soyeon hadn’t thought of that. Or that Shuhua hadn’t said something. But it was possible that they were so focused on me and our connection that they hadn’t extended their planning to Yujin.
“We have to do something,” Minnie said, breaking the silence. “They’re right. If we don’t protect Yujin too, we’re no better than Hampton.” She looked to me. “Is there anyone else?” I shook my head. Most of my friends spent their time at The Petal. Yujin was the only person I lived with for any extended period of time.
“Okay,” said Soyeon, glancing at a datapad on the table in front of her. “You stay here with us. Minnie, Miyeon, go get Yujin.” “She won’t go with you if I’m not there,” I said. “She won’t trust you. I need to be there.”
Soyeon shook her head. “Absolutely not. No offense, but you’re...” She was clearly looking for a nice way to tell me that I would get my ass kicked. “You’re not like us. You stay with us.”
I wanted to argue, but I realized that she was probably right. If I went, I would just slow them down. I could simply text Yujin and let her know that she needed to go with Minnie and Miyeon. At least then she would know what to expect.
I was about to open my mouth to agree with what Soyeon had said, when the world around us exploded.
At first, I wasn’t sure what had even happened. The noise, the heat, and the shockwave were so all-encompassing that I was knocked out of chair and thrown to the ground. Part of me though that I had blacked out, but then I realized that I could still hear the sounds of voices around. It took me a moment to realize it was Soyeon shouting out directions to the other women.
I shook my head to clear it and wiped soot from my face. It was only when I pulled my hand away that I saw that I was bleeding. I must have struck my head when I hit the ground.
I coughed and felt a gentle hand on my arm. I looked up to see Miyeon crouching next to me. There was a smear of black on her face, but she still somehow look as ethereal as angel, even with all the chaos unfolding around us. “We have to go,” she said urgently, her face close to my ear. “Can you stand?” I took her hand and staggered to my feet. Beneath us, I could hear the sound of screaming and gunfire. The Petal was under attack. Who would be stupid enough? Who had that big of a death wish? The answer was obvious. Hampton Cybersystems. Either them or one of the gangs they were working alongside.
“I’m okay,” I said, coughing from the smoke that was now filling the air. Miyeon didn’t seem to be struggling at all. I wondered if she had her lungs enhanced. I could see that her eyes were glowing slightly in the smoke, and I knew that she was utilizing some form of cybernetic vision to see through the haze.
“We have to go downstairs,” she said. “Stay with me. We’re going to get Yujin.”
I didn’t ask why they had changed their minds. I assumed it was because they needed all hands on deck to protect The Petal. I just nodded and tried to wipe my now burning eyes.
“Stay close,” said Miyeon. “Let’s go.” I glanced back at Shuhua, who had drawn a weapon at some point and was now crouched and ready for whatever came next. “We’ll cover the rest of the building until you’re gone,” she said. “Go for the emergency exit! Take them to the safe house when you’re done!” Miyeon just nodded, then grabbed my arm and began to lead me forward. I followed without saying anything. What was there to say? We were about to head into a firefight and my head was still ringing from the force of the blast. The only thing that was keeping me on my feet was the realization that if they had done this to get to me, they could be doing the same thing to Yujin right now. We had to get to her as soon as possible, or who knew what could happen?
I felt like the world was moving at lightspeed. How had this happened? It felt like it had only been minutes ago that I had been sipping a drink and contemplating flirting with Dongheon.
Oh, hell.
Dongheon... was he safe? If he had gotten hurt because of me, I would never forgive myself. It didn’t matter if he knew the risks. The attack had happened because I couldn’t keep my nose out of where it didn’t belong.
Miyeon seemed to sense what I was thinking as we hit the emergency staircase. She gave my hand another gentle squeeze. “It’s going to be okay,” she said softly.
And for some reason, for a moment, I really did believe her.
Until she kicked open the door to the emergency stairwell, only to be greeted by three armed men in full black combat suits, each heavily armed and visibly modified.
“Get behind me,” Miyeon said. “And stay down.”
She didn’t have a weapon. She looked like she was maybe half the size of the men. I could still hear gunfire and screaming from below us. I scrambled backward, letting Miyeon take the lead. “We’ll be with Yujin soon,” Miyeon said calmly.
The combat suited men looked at each other, then at the small woman in front of them. They must have known what they were dealing with. Did they have any clue what was goisng to come next? Miyeon moved. And I realized that I had never understood how dangerous each of them really was. Not until now. Not until this very moment.
I pressed myself against the wall, and let her do what needed to be done.

When You Pull Another Member’s Photocard ~ VERIVERY Reaction
Dongheon:
“This is ridiculous,” Dongheon huffed as he looked across and saw the photocard that you had just beside your album that was on your desk.
“It’s no big deal, it’s just a photocard,” you tried your best to reassure Dongheon, “these things are at random, no one knew who I would get.”
A groan came from Dongheon as he looked at the photo of Yeonho that you had. “Someone should’ve known that you should’ve gotten me.”
“Dongheon, you’re pouting,” you teased as you looked across at the expression on his face, “you’re not really this annoyed, are you?”
His head nodded in reply to you with a shrug, “do you expect me to be alright? My own partner has another member’s photocard, it’s not alright.”
“It’s not exactly on purpose,” you grinned.
“It needs to be swapped.”
You hummed in agreement back at Dongheon, “I’m sure we could swap it next time I visit you at the studio, you guys have got plenty.”
“I’ll take it now,” Dongheon suddenly encouraged, “I’ll go there right now and swap so that you can have mine straight away.”
“It’s midnight, tomorrow will do.”
Hoyoung:
“I refuse to accept this,” Hoyoung huffed as soon as he took a look through your album after you tried to hide it away from Hoyoung.
“Don’t get stroppy,” you warned him, knowing exactly what Hoyoung was like. “It’s just a photocard of Yongseung, it’s no big deal really.”
Hoyoung’s eyes widened, looking at you almost as if you were crazy. “It’s not just a photocard, it’s a photocard that isn’t of me Y/N, that’s the problem.”
“You’re still stroppy,” you continued to tease, “I’m sure if I get another album then I’ll be able to pull out your photocard instead.”
A sigh came from Hoyoung as he took a seat down beside you, “why would anyone want to stare at his ugly face more than they would mine, it’s crazy.”
“I didn’t ask to get this one,” you reminded him.
“You should’ve got mine.”
You nodded back across at Hoyoung, “if I had it my way, then I’d have gotten your photocard, but unfortunately I don’t get to.”
“At least I know that if you were given the choice, you’d choose mine,” Hoyoung grumbled, “but you still don’t actually have it.”
“If I buy enough, then I probably will.”
Minchan:
“This is a crime,” Minchan declared as he watched you pull out your photocard, only to be left disappointed when he saw Kangmin.
“They don’t know who they’re packing in each album,” you tried your best to remind Minchan, but he wasn’t having any of it.”
His head shook as he threw the photocard away from the two of you, “don’t even look at it, I don’t want you looking at anyone else’s photocard.”
“Why are you being so dramatic?” You teased, walking around the room and picking the photocard back up again to keep it safe.
Minchan’s wide eyes followed you around the room, “every single time I give you an album you never seen to get any of my photocards from them.”
“One day I probably will,” you smiled.
“Probably? That’s no good.”
You struggled to stop yourself laughing as Minchan despaired beside you, “I mean the chances are always one in seven Min.”
“From now on I’m going to make sure it’s one in one so that this never happens again,” Minchan assured you.”
“It’s just a photocard, relax a little.”
Hyehyeon:
“I had a feeling that this would happen,” Hyehyeon remarked as soon as he watched you open up your album and pull out a Dongheon photocard.
“What do you mean?” You quizzed, looking back with intrigue as Hyehyeon reached into the pocket of his jacket, pulling something out.
You could only chuckle as he pulled out his photocard and handed it across to you. “I kept one back just in case you didn’t get mine in your album.
“Are you really that desperate to make sure that I have your photocard?” You joked, left unsurprised when Hyehyeon nodded.
He stretched his hand out until you took the photocard, “you don’t want to have a photo of Dongheon when you could have one of me instead Y/N.”
“It’s nice to have a different one,” you replied.
“Take that back now.”
Your laughter got louder as Hyehyeon glared across at you, “I don’t just support you, I support every member of the group Hyehyeon.”
“Alright,” he whispered, “but as long as deep down you like me, and my photocards more than you do the other guys.”
“Don’t worry, you’re my favourite.”
Yeonho:
“Just so you know, my photocard is better,” Yeonho told you as he watched you pull out the Hoyoung photocard that was in your album.
“Really?” You scoffed back across to Yeonho, placing the photocard down. “Is that really what you want to say to me when I’ve just got this?”
A shrug of the shoulders came from Yeonho, “I mean Hoyoung does look good, but my concept photos are much better than his are for this comeback.”
“I don’t doubt that,” you sighed, shaking your head, “but unfortunately I’ve not got your photocard this time around, I’ve got Hoyoung’s.”
He couldn’t bring himself to look as you picked the photocard up again, “I wish that you’d managed to get my photocard instead of another member’s.”
“I’ve got the real you” you teased.
“That was smooth Y/N.”
You nodded proudly in reply, “as great as Hoyoung’s photocard is, I think I’ll stick to being able to enjoy the real you first and foremost.”
“And just so you know too, the real me is better than me in a photocard,” Yeonho encouraged, making you laugh.
“That’s what I was hoping for.”
Yongseung:
“I’m so confused,” Yongseung remarked as he watched you unpack your new album to see a photocard of Minchan poking out of it.
“How come?” You quizzed, taking the photocard out with a smile as you admired how sweet Minchan looked in the photo that he had taken.
Yongseung’s hand scratched over the top of his head, “I asked at the company to make sure you got a photocard of me, and that definitely isn’t me there.”
“Maybe it got swapped,” you tried your best to reason, “or maybe they gave you the wrong album accidentally to give to me.”
His head shook as you tried to make Yongseung feel a bit better, “you wait until I get to work tomorrow, those staff members better start running.”
“You’re not serious, are you?” You quizzed.
“Of course, I am.”
A scoff came from you as he spoke, “you’ve got plenty of spare albums at work, just bring one of those home with you tomorrow.”
“And take your Minchan one back?” Yongseung optimistically looked at you, hopeful to get the two albums swapped.
“If that would make you feel better.”
Kangmin:
“What photocard did you get?” Kangmin asked as he watched you begin to browse through your copy of the group’s new release that he’d given you.
“That’s not important,” you smiled back across at Kangmin, quickly turning through and trying your best to hide the photocard that you had from him.
His head shook as he walked across to where you were sat at the other end of the room, “come on, let me see. It’s just a photocard, and it’s a random too.”
“Don’t get mad,” you warned, pulling the photocard back out of the album and handing it over. “I got Hyehyeon’s photocard though.”
A groan came from Kangmin as he took the photo from you, “really? I was hoping you’d get one of mine, I tracked the patterns of photocards and everything.”
“I’ve got plenty of yours already,” you smiled.
“But you could get another one.”
Your head shook as Kangmin handed the photocard back across to you. “Maybe I could sell this one or swap it for one of yours with a fan.”
“That’s a great idea,” Kangmin immediately agreed, “I’m sure that if you found a Hyehyeon stan they’d swap with you in an instant.”
“Don’t sound too excited Kang.”

The fact that there is some vixx stan out there who thinks its unfair that vixx doesnt get to do as much stuff as verivery is honestly confusing. Leo rubs elbows with the biggest people in the buisness he doesnt need to promo??
stoppp my throat is closing up just thinking abt it. like ik this person exists somewhere on twitter nd they would be dead serious abt verivery being 'favored' when in reality they fighting tooth and nail to break even with everything they do 😭😭😭😭😭 every other person leo knows either has a radio show where they play his songs for 30 uninterrupted minutes OR they're well respected in the real life music industry. if leo doesn't want to go on the youtube show where u eat toe jam for screentime he doesn't have to. some kpop fans just don't understand that when you're beloved you don't have to do a damn thing! and that's the goal!

flames in your eyes [b.h.y.]
Tumblr media
The Earth is dying; desertification, pandemics and poverty are leading the way. There's a laboratory that wants to build it up from the ground again: to re-inhibit it with clones. You're one of those who are recruited for the cause.

When you were sedated, you sometimes dreamed of a better world. A world where there was no poverty, no desertification and no pandemics. Where there were no lives lost due to the widening gap between the rich and the poor, the global natural disasters and the many, many illnesses that were being spread without a cure in sight.
You knew the world had never been like this. Not even decades or centuries ago. For instance, even though almost everyone had technological devices they lived with these days and there was internet connection in all corners of the world, food wasn’t on the table or a roof wasn’t above their head. Some time ago, it had been the complete opposite. Yet, in 2284, it was the reality.
There wasn’t one main cause for the disaster that had fallen upon Earth; everything was interconnected. Geographical differences leading to political tension, political tension leading to economic recession, economic recession leading to rising prices and deteriorating living conditions, and these living conditions leading to the spread of unknown and brand new viruses. Even though some countries developed vaccines and supplements that might offer some relief or temporary cure, there was no end to it. The way the world was so globalised, small people’s problems reached everyone in no time.
With the many natural disasters, there came another phenomena: people being born or being struck by inhumane abilities when they lived through those disasters. There were news of people who could control water after almost being drowned in a tsunami, people who didn’t have to breathe to function properly after being swallowed by a sandstorm, people who could control thunder after being hit by one and surviving and then there were you, too: one who was able to control gravity after falling off a cliff yet surviving the crush because you had managed to float above the ground somehow.
In your dreams, you dreamed of being accepted, maybe even celebrated for who you were. Not abandoned by your parents after they had realised what you could do, not being left out on the streets as a teenager and having to survive hidden away from others, stealing food and money.
In your dreams, you were free; free to use your power and free to do what you wanted.
When you woke up, the complete opposite welcomed you.
Tumblr media
The reality was that you were a number here, a participant in this life-changing experiment as they called it. By ‘they’, you meant the group of scientists, researchers and rich businessmen funding their project. When you had been approached by them, you hadn’t thought too much of their offer to get a job at their company since you had known that sometimes the rich had gone out of their way to fetch orphans or abandoned kids like you from the streets.
“We will give you food, a roof above your head and security. All you need to do is help us out with our project. We are hoping to make the Earth a better place to live in, and we can guarantee that humanity will thank you for your assistance one day,” they had said, and as naive as you had been, you had believed them. After all, what could you have lost? You had no one to rely on, no income, no stability or whatsoever in your life.
When you had admitted that you hadn’t finished school or you had never had a job before, they had merely smiled. They had reassured you that it wouldn’t matter, and that you would be able to do what they ask of you, and you would have plenty of time to rest as well. What had convinced you was the idea of helping out the planet. After all, what abandoned teen with an extraordinary ability she oh so well wished to hide wouldn’t want the world to look at her differently?
What you hadn’t expected was for them to work for a bioscience laboratory that had wanted to recruit you for the sole purpose of cloning you. Why? Because they had known about your ability to control gravity, and they had begun to search for people like you in hopes of making clones and re-inhabiting the Earth with such invincible people. That, of course, had come to light on your first “working day”, and there had been no escape since then. You could have cried, you could have pleaded to them to let go, you could have hit the door of your room until your hands bled, but it had been all futile. Not like you had anywhere to go, but truthfully, it was sucking the life out of you - slowly yet irreservisibly like nicotine.
You were constantly monitored, and one wrong move or word could mean that you didn’t get food for days. You had your own sterile, plain room with a simple bed and white walls and an enormous glass window that let anyone from the outside to look into your room, and you could also see the outside from inside. You had your own schedule to get into the capsule for the cloning machine, and god knows how long you were actually kept there because you always lost track of time when you were sedated. You were also forced to exercise to keep in shape and put to tests to keep your brain in shape just as well. Everything was perfectly timed, and this way, you could barely see anyone around you apart from the scientists who always assisted you, except for the times you could walk past the other rooms in the hallway and see other girls sleeping in their rooms or walking from one end of their room to the other just like you did so sometimes. No connection was made with them, it was strictly prohibited, but you wondered whether only girls were there - similarly young like you.
It was the same every time, and the more you were sedated, the more difficult it was to not sleep longer outside of the cloning phases of your days and to be able to feel normal. The thing was that sometimes when you were sedated, you had these weird images in your dream where you were fighting with another version of yourself, your mind always circulating around the idea of having another you. However, when you brought it up to the scientist who asked you about how you were feeling, they upped the dose of your sedative pill, but it just got worse and worse. Sometimes, you hallucinated that you were being followed or that you saw two versions of yourself when you looked into the mirror. It was messing with your head, quite seriously, and it was giving you intense headaches and anxiety.
It was the same until one day, things went wrong. For the first time since you had been there, there was a crack in the system: a girl collapsed in her room when you walked past it with a scientist by your side, and even though you were rushed into your own room, you could hear an unfamiliar voice saying that the girl wasn’t breathing. You kept thinking of the scene of her falling to the ground until the next time you could move out of your room, and all that welcomed you was an empty room where the girl once had been.
“What happened to the girl in there?” You asked from the woman beside you, but she glared at you, stepping closer to you and said in a hushed yet warning tone:
“You better not ask about it if you don’t want to end up like her.”
And so you didn’t. Because even though it wasn’t living when you were exploited for your own superhuman abilities, you didn’t want to die. There was a hope inside of you that maybe one day, it would all end, and you could get out of there.
What you didn’t expect was for it to happen the way it did.
Tumblr media
It was just like any other day: get up, have breakfast, fill out the tests they gave you, exercise in the exercise room, have lunch, then go to the room with the giant cloning capsules. The capsules that were used for cloning were white with see-through glass on the top whilst the ones beside them were black with black glass on top that didn’t allow you to see through it - probably for the clones themselves, but you had never seen them for yourself. There were wires and fluid-filled sacs connecting the two, but truthfully, you didn’t know what exactly they were for and you didn’t actually want to know.
You were usually intact when you got out of the capsule, but sometimes you felt like something had stung or that your skin had been pricked, yet whenever you looked at the area you thought to be hurt, you couldn’t see anything unusual. Again, maybe you were just hallucinating or maybe they were using such high technology on you that they stopped the bleeding and healed whatever scars they caused.
Directly, you had never seen your clone. However, there were pictures of you from all angles plastered onto a white board beside the capsule you used, and it was the same for every other girl though you didn’t dare examine their pictures for too long because you knew it wouldn’t be appreciated.
Everything was normal, you were just on your way to the cloning room when suddenly, all the lights went out. Not only in the hallways but also in the rooms. The doors clicked, signalling that their locks were unlocked due to the lack of electricity, and only the dim lights of the emergency signs could provide some source of light. You could hear that some girls started coming out of their rooms, whispering about their confusion.
“Everybody, stay calm and go back to your rooms!” The woman beside you ordered them in a strict voice, and after reaching into her lab coat, she got her phone out and shined some light onto the opened doors and the frightened girls to make them back away. However, they didn’t.
You could understand them. For a moment, you also wondered whether it was possible to just leave, to run away from them. After all, all doors were the same, and even though you had never left through the back at the end of the hallway ever since you had entered from the front door some time ago, you guessed that it was currently unlocked just as well. And it was so close too, you were only a few steps away from it since your room was the closest to it. So close…
Though the moment you laid your eyes on the back door while the woman beside you was calling someone, there were weird noises coming from the cloning room. It was as if some kind of glass broke and objects were thrown around. It was odd enough since usually, only one or two scientists were already there when you needed to enter with your assigned “caretaker”, and you doubted they were so careless as to make a mess.
Then, a horrified scream could be heard from inside the room.
A second later, it was abruptly cut off.
The woman beside you froze for a moment, and you shivered, your heart hammering away. You had a terrifying feeling about it, and the sudden silence that followed the brief screaming was eerie, pricking at your skin. Your breathing became uneven, and you felt a knot forming in your throat, making it hard to breathe.
In the next moment, the door of the cloning room opened with a thud and though the emergency lights were dim, you had a feeling that the sound of it being thrown to the ground and the shadow of it could only indicate one thing: that it was a body, blood scattering the walls around it. The woman beside you shed the light on it just in time for you to look at it, and you were right…
Though you couldn’t see the person’s face, it was definitely a human body of a scientist’s, the trademark white coat painted in burgundy and the odd angles of it indicating that the person broke a few bones, too. If they even survived, that is.
You didn’t think twice. You ran to the back door as soon as possible, only glancing back to see a girl coming out of the room with bloody hands. You briefly recognised her as one of the girls in their rooms… More precisely, she was probably her clone. Which meant that all the clones were out, and god knows how developed they were to not want to kill anything or anyone that got in their way.
You never ran as fast as you did so now, and you didn’t even have time to be surprised that there was grass under your feet and a giant stadium-like building beside the one you had just come out of because the screams magnified behind you and the stadium-like building was currently in flames: itt was as if lighting was striking directly from its core.
People in white coats were running around with torches and pushing through you, boys from the other building came out running just like the girls from yours had done so. Everything was in a frenzy. No one knew where to go, what to do and what was happening, and no one listened to the staff members making orders. Whatever was going on, it was better to get away from it as soon as possible.
A guy passed by you, but it was like he was gone in a blink of an eye while a girl from behind you was throwing icicles onto the scientists who wanted to get close to her. Your power only saved you from falling head-first into the ground because you bounced back from it before you could fall down, but otherwise, it didn’t help you to run faster or see where the others were going.
You didn’t even know if there was a way to escape, but you couldn’t care less. You wanted to get away, you needed to get away.
However, when something grabbed at your arm, you had to come to a halt. When you looked down at your hand and looked up, you could see a girl smiling at you with a mischievous smile.
“Don’t be scared. I can create a water bubble around us that no one can really get through if they don’t want to drown, so you’ll be safe. Just like the others,” she bobbed her head backwards, and that’s when you could see the edges of a bubble around you and two more girls.
“Thank you,” you croaked out, but you didn’t think it was enough to express how you felt. She nodded whilst holding her hand up to the sky as if she was holding the bubble together, and she held onto a few others who got in her way, but other than that, it seemed that everyone was fighting with what they had - the girl with the icicles, a boy with flames, another boy who had thunder come out of his body, one girl who seemed to be able to create a crack between your side of the ground and the two identical buildings where the scientists and others seemed to fight with your clones.
However, in the next moment, the water bubble girl suddenly collapsed, the water around you splashing into the ground at the same time as her body reached the grass. You let out a shriek without knowing, hurrying to her side to look for any sign that she was hurting. That’s when you saw pills spilling out of her pocket, and even though you had no idea whether it was her doing or not, a foam-like liquid appeared around the edges of her lips, and her glass-like eyes stared back at you without any kind of light in them. No, this couldn’t happen! She was ready to help so many of you, and now you couldn’t do the same for her? No… This… Could… Not… Happen…
You didn’t even have time to process what had just happened because a hand dragged you, a gentle voice reaching your ears (though it sounded distant).
“Come on!” A boy prompted you, and you only turned your head to look at him briefly - his messy pitch-black locks, his similarly dark orbs with flames dancing in it and his sharp features - before he already started dragging you with him. You had no idea where you were going or why he was so sure of where to go, but when you reached a fence, you had a feeling where this was going.
You halted for a moment though, a sudden rush of fear coming over you. Even though this wasn’t the place and time to contemplate over this, and you had wanted to run away for so long, now that you were standing in front of something that might symbolise the end of your time as a lab rat, you were suddenly not so sure whether the outside world wouldn’t be more cruel to you.
The boy with flames dancing in his eyes sensed your hesitation, but still dragged you forward with him. There was already a hole in the fence when you got there, so you could crawl through it and continue running. What was surprising though was the fact that you were running in woods - literal woods. Since you had been sedated when you had been transferred here in a car, you couldn’t have seen anything before, that’s why you were surprised now to see woods and grass around and not just sand and the bare signs of mother nature’s heart still beating under your feet.
“This can’t be real…” You mumbled while you were looking around, your legs still going even though your mind was somewhere else.
“It’s not completely real. This has been planted here with modern technology,” the boy replied, his voice coming out raspy and ragged due to running and speaking at the same time.
“Wait…” You stopped dead in your tracks, only realising that he was still holding your hand when you stopped and he let go of you because of the abrupt motion, almost causing him to fall to the ground. Unbeknownst to you, you reached your hand out, stopping him in the motion and making him lean backwards instead - all with the power running through your fingers.
The boy turned to you with open eyes, not scared yet curious. Since you were used to people being afraid of you when they got to know about your power, you just blinked back at him. Remembering why you had just stopped, you cleared your throat and threw the question at him:
“How do you know how they’ve been planted? Are you with them?”
He could have been a scientist or someone working at those laboratories, but from the way he looked at you - so hurt -, you had a feeling that he wasn’t. He wasn’t even wearing a lab coat, instead, he wore a plain, pattern-less shirt and sweatpants.
Still, he shook his head and snapped his fingers: tiny, bright red sparkles born under his fingertips that gradually evolved into something brighter, something bigger: a flame.
“I’ll tell you later. Just trust me. I’ll get us to safety,” he promised as he snapped his fingers again, all the light from his hand gone.
“But what about…” You started saying and looked over your shoulder, only to see both of the buildings behind you up in flames and shambles. People were still running around, but there were less of them in the identical clothing you wore, so you had a feeling that those who had been kept here were on their way to safety.
Still, the sight of the building that had caused you so much pain being in ruins should have made you feel delighted. Instead, you remembered what happened there, and the memories tore through your flesh like small doses of lighting, hitting just in the right places to feel nauseous. The sterile smell of the cloning capsule, the feeling of the pills on your tongue, the white of the walls in your room, the version of you that appeared in your nightmares and hallucinations…
A sudden sharp ringing started in your ears and your hands flew to cup them, but to no avail; the world around you was louder than ever before. It just got worse and worse until your vision got blurry, your knees gave in, and you fell to the ground as the world around you went black with the image of your clone laughing at you.
Tumblr media
When you regained consciousness, the first thing that you noticed was the smell. It wasn’t sterile, it wasn’t familiar, and whilst it wasn’t unbearable, you could feel the dust in the air when you sucked in a deep breath and needed to cough a few times while rubbing your eyes.
The next thing you noticed was your surroundings: furniture in multiple colours, shelves filled with books, a comfortable couch you currently laid on, the softness of the blanket that was covering you and the remains of what seemed like a living room with pictures hung on the walls yet no one there. When the thought of the previous night came to mind, you bolted up from the couch and looked around alarmed despite knowing that you had been saved. Or so, you hoped.
You could hear footsteps behind you, and immediately, your first thought was to run. The memories of anyone coming near you were linked to being dragged to the cloning rooms, and fear was injected into your veins. However, when the pitch-black haired boy from the night before emerged from the hallway with a mug in his hands, you forced your brain to stop making up escape plans.
“Hey! You’re up,” he noted in a gentle tone, and as he was walking towards you, you took in his features - in broad daylight and without the chaos around you - including the softness of his black locks, the depth of his similarly dark eyes, the elegant arch of his eyebrows, his high nose bridge and the deepened corners of his lips when he was attempting to smile at you, probably testing the waters to see how you reacted.
“Where are we?” You asked first things first, your voice coming out hoarse and definitely harsher than you had intended. The boy wasn’t taken aback though, he merely reached the mug out to you. Suspiciously, you eyed him for a few seconds, your silence prompting him to speak up first.
“You’re in safety, and I’m not going to hurt you,” he announced matter-of-factly, and even though you wanted to believe him, you needed more reason than that. “I reckon that we were in the same boat just until yesterday, being forced to be cloned and used by the laboratory. From what I could see, I guess there was a different building for boys and girls, but I have a feeling we had the same tasks to fulfil: exercising, filling out tests, complying with every step of the cloning process, not asking any questions or else we wouldn’t get food and so on. Is that right?”
His voice was firm, and you could tell he was speaking from experience, but when he looked at you with those eyes with tiny pieces of hurt swimming in them, that’s when you were even more sure that he was speaking nothing but the truth.
“Yeah,” so you replied, following his example when he lowered into an armchair and you sat back down on the couch. He took his distance from you, and you appreciated that despite what you had just discussed before. There was a moment of awkward silence lingering between the two of you before you were hit by a memory.
“You can control fire?” You inquired, remembering back to the previous night when you had seen flames coming out of his hands. And his eyes too, but maybe it was just your imagination. After all, you had been having hallucinations of your clone a lot of times, it wouldn’t have come as a surprise to see something that wasn’t there.
“Yes. I’ve survived a fire when I was young, and since then, I can create flames and control fire,” he nodded as he put the mug on the table in front of him. You had a feeling that it wasn’t all he had to say, and he continued as expected. “This was my parents’ house. I’ve grown up here. Ever since I’ve come back from that incident alive, they’ve helped me to hide my power. Not because they were ashamed, but because it was a fire that only I’ve survived, and you know how people look at those with such abilities…”
“I know,” you croaked out, knowing all too well how people looked at such “superhumans”. Even before you had obtained your power, you hadn’t thought of them as evil or shameful creatures. After all, it wasn’t their fault that they got their powers! Whilst some superhumans liked to use them for illegal purposes, others could have easily used it to help people - just like you had all done so the day before, trying to save each other.
However, governments thought otherwise - they thought that people with such powers had to be contained - like a virus -, that’s why they were searching for them, and that’s why a lot of you were hiding yourself or hiding your power.
When you exchanged a glance with the pitch-black haired boy, you knew he meant this and you understood as well - the weight of bearing such a power. So with a bob of his head, he acknowledged your words and continued on with his story.
“We’ve told everyone it was a matter of luck, I didn’t have any powers, hence I’ve tried to get familiar with my power only when I was alone. My parents supported me and let me study, and so I was like a normal child until they came to offer me an internship from the laboratory.”
“The same laboratory we were at?”
“Yes. They’ve said that I would be able to work on this intelligent city project that they’ve created, one that can run on solar power and electricity and one where we can grow plants and healthy biodiversity with modern technology. That’s how I knew the woods we’ve been to weren’t real,” he explained as he leaned forward, resting his elbows on his thighs. When you looked directly into his eyes, it wasn’t like the fire you had seen the day before. It was as if the flames were barely there, only flickering, and for some reason, the thought saddened you.
Even though his story was very different from yours, the biggest contrast being how his family treated him, his every act so far had proved you that he wasn’t thinking only about himself which was rare with people who came from such prestigious backgrounds. Even their house could signal that those who lived there were wealthy, and you wondered what happened to his parents since the living room looked pretty dusty as if nobody had been there for some time. Then again, since you had been practically living on the streets in a very run-down part of the country and you guessed that he had taken you to some higher tech city, you probably couldn’t know anything about his situation.
Though you had a feeling where his story would take a turn.
“It was a trick, wasn’t it? They knew about your power,” you guessed tentatively, and he looked perplexed for the first time.
“Did the same happen to you?”
You nodded, letting the past memories resurface and sting as they usually did so. You had no idea how much time had passed by, but you kept recalling that exact moment when you had first talked to the people from the laboratory, hoping that you could actually change the world. Just how naive you had been.
“I mean, I wasn’t smart like you,” you justified, feeling icky about the possibility of him thinking that you came from a similar background as he did. “My parents abandoned me when they got to know about my power, so I was basically a homeless orphan on the streets, but they’ve offered me a job, and made me believe that I could make a difference in the world if I join their project. In return, they would provide me with food, accommodation and safety.”
“Which they did, but they didn’t tell you about their project, right?” The boy put the pieces together, and it seemed that he got the hang of it pretty soon which was pretty impressive but also heartbreaking.
Instead of pondering over the memories though, you nodded and exchanged another meaningful glance with him. It seemed that you could understand each other’s pain well even without words, but words were needed to paint the background story of your lives, so you shared with him how you had gotten your power, how you had been disowned by your parents, and how you had needed to survive on the streets or in run-down ruins until the people from the laboratory had found you.
The boy - who introduced himself as Hoyoung in the meantime - had great empathy for someone who had practically grown up in luxury, but may it be because you two shared the same blessing and curse at the same time or may it be because he was different from others, but he looked like he genuinely cared when you were sharing bits and bobs about your life, your power and how you wish you could have just turned down their offer to join the company because it had been your downfall.
However, to that, the boy shook his head, something pulling at his lips when he next spoke up.
“It wouldn’t have mattered if you had said no,” he clarified, almost in a resigned state. It could be seen that he was contemplating whether or not to continue, and you were about to tell him that it was fine if he didn’t want to say more, but he cleared his throat and carried on nevertheless.
“My parents did some research on the lab, and came across some lawsuits against the company involving human trafficking and animal abuse, and told me to re-consider the internship opportunity. So when they directly came to our house to talk to me about it and I said no, they shot my parents in front of me and sedated me.”
His words struck you like lightning; it was one thing that they were basically kidnapping people for their powers and using them for their own selfish purposes, but it was another one to kill innocent people in the meantime. They probably justified that it was in the name of science or something.
“Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry,” you said immediately, your heart squeezing at the thought of the boy having to lose his parents because of the people from the laboratory and ultimately because of his power.
“I couldn’t do anything, everything happened so fast and I…” Hoyoung recalled in a shaky tone, but stopped as he looked up at the ceiling, trying to hold back tears. Even though you couldn’t understand what he was going through because you had never been in his shoes and you had never been on good terms with your parents, he looked like such a good person and he had spoken so fondly of his parents, it broke your heart to see him in such a state.
“It wasn’t your fault,” you tried to reassure him as you reached for his hand to squeeze it. It came almost naturally even with you two being kind of strangers for now, and the boy didn’t yank his hand away either. He looked like he could use all kinds of comfort, and you were willing to give it to him.
After all, you owed him your life, and the least you could do was to comfort him when he was mourning the loss of his parents whom he had last seen when he had last been to this house. He had probably kept it all to himself or maybe he had wanted it to be all a bad dream, but this time, he let everything out, and you were there to help him through it.
Tumblr media
After Hoyoung had pulled himself together, he explained to you how he had managed to get you two to safety. He had needed to steal a car because he had known that you two hadn’t had enough time to walk or run by yourself (especially with you being unconscious), and it had seemed that the whole area around the labs had been in frenzy because there had been abandoned cars everywhere (probably by the scientists and other staff members who had been trying to put out the fire and deal with the clones), so it hadn’t been that difficult.
He had also added that one of the boys in their building had caused the fire because he had been able to control lighting, and while he had been escorted to his room from a cloning session, he had walked by Hoyoung’s room, and that’s when he had practically bursted into lighting, cutting off the electricity and putting the hallway on fire. Then, it had been pretty much like how you had described your experience to him: both the staff members and the ones recruited were running around, the latter looking for a way out while the staff members were trying to control the situation. He had also mentioned that it had been bizarre to see some clones of the other boys who had probably escaped their capsules, and that’s why he hadn’t hesitated to help when he had seen you just crouching by that girl.
“I’m not sure how developed these clones are and whether they are intelligent enough to do anything reasonable without being told to do so, but they seemed quite violent, so I didn’t want you to get hurt. If I could do something to help, I wanted to,” he justified his actions, and for a moment, you could feel the ice around your heart thaw. You had built walls around yourself to not get hurt after being abandoned by your parents because if they hadn’t wanted you, then who would want to? So to have a complete stranger willingly save you… It was genuinely unbelievable to you.
“But I was just a mere stranger. You could have just let me die there.”
“I wouldn’t have been able to live with the regret then. Not after what had happened to my parents,” Hoyoung reasoned solemnly, and although you were about to say something to go against his words, you shut your mouth. After his breakdown, you didn’t have the heart to bring up anything that might cause him pain. Not to mention that he truly had a heart of gold, and instead of blaming him for risking his own life to save you, you were thankful to him - something that you couldn’t stop telling him throughout your conversations.
Not knowing how to add more to that or what to bring up again, silence was stretching on for some time before you found your voice and asked, albeit uncertain:
“Do you think they are looking for us?”
You didn’t need to specify whom you meant by ‘them’, you both knew it all too well. You also knew that he couldn’t know the answer for sure either, but you wanted to hear what he thought, so that you could come up with something.
“On one hand, I would like to think that they have enough problem with the clones, but on the other hand, I think they might want to find us, so that we wouldn’t tell anyone about what has happened at the labs,” he explained thoroughly, and you nodded, thinking the same. “That’s why we need to leave soon. If they wanted to find me, they would probably come here first,” he reasoned, his voice gentle despite the implication behind his words.
You wondered how much it hurt for him to say so because this house was probably the last thing that reminded him of his parents which was both reassuring and devastating. To leave it, it would mean that he would leave the place where he had grown up and where remains of his memories with his parents had been. On the contrary, he had already been away from the house for sometime now and it might help him to move on to be away from it.
Whatever he might have been feeling in the current moment, he didn’t let it show on his face. Instead, he was looking at you for your reaction, worried and curious at the same time, and despite the way he was looking at you, you couldn’t help but ask:
“Should we go our separate ways?”
Hoyoung was visibly taken aback by your question, almost horrified as if you had suggested something even more dangerous than you had experienced so far. He couldn’t even find the right words to say, he was just muttering for a few seconds.
“I mean… if you want to and if you don’t want my help,” he blurted out, a bit confused, and upon his nervous state, you became a bit uncertain as well.
“Its not about that. I just think it would be safer for both of us.”
“I think it might be safer if we stayed together. For instance, if we find a place to stay at, one could go out while the other would supervise the place. Or we could just start a new life far away, having each other’s back. After all, I don’t have anyone anymore either…” His voice trailed off by the end, and he averted his eyes from your face to a picture hanging on the wall instead.
You gulped, feeling the tension blanket the two of you, your heart breaking in the meantime. This boy had really saved your life when everything had been ripped off of him: his family, his future, his dreams and the stability he had once known. Yet, instead of giving up on life altogether, he had helped others escape and he had helped you as well, taking you to safety. If you could be someone he had in this post-laboratory life, you wouldn’t want to leave him either. After all, you owed him your life.
“We’ll stay together,” you announced, your voice not leaving room for any doubt. When you broke the silence, Hoyoung looked back at you, and you couldn’t exactly pinpoint what his face displayed: relief, gratitude or something completely different, but you knew one thing: that you would want to protect him as much as he had done so already.
It wasn’t easy, of course. Two youngsters with supernatural abilities after escaping a laboratory where they had been cloned meant that you were practically on the run even though you had nothing to be ashamed of, and you weren’t the bad guys in this story. However, you knew that the government wouldn’t care because news hadn’t come out regarding the laboratory and what they had done so, only news of two of its buildings burning to the ground due to “technical errors”.
You had no one else you could count on either apart from each other, but at least you had somewhere to start from when Hoyoung opened up the vault in his parents’ basement and found some saved up jewellery and cash. That was enough to get you going, and after that, you planned to leave the country to start a new life, but whether that would be feasible, it was all uncertain. Your clones and others’ clones might have been on the run too, the lab staff looking for them and maybe even looking for you two, so you needed to be as careful as possible, moving quickly and unpredictably. You had a feeling that the company behind the lab had the money and resources to track down anything they wanted to, so you had to avoid public spaces with cameras which just made things harder.
Despite everything, you had each other, and when you had frequently recurring nightmares of being stuck in the laboratory again, Hoyoung was there to soothe you, gently talking to you until you could fall asleep again, and when the boy had something that reminded him of his parents, you were the one he could hold onto, anchoring him to reality.
Despite everything that had happened and everything that was about to come, you had each other, and in a world of uncertainty, that was more powerful than any other weapon could be.

Kim Yong Seung
(Yongseung - VERIVERY)
Deck: E. A. Poe
Spread: Relationship Role
Friend - III The Empress, 3 of Cups
Yongseung is likely to play a mother role for his friends. He’s likely to check whether they are properly dressed for the weather, whether they have eaten enough vegetables and whether they are happy. He’s emotionally mature and caring. He’s likely to enjoy time in nature and in the company of his friends.
Boyfriend - 8 of Swords, I The Magician
While dating, Yongseung is likely to keep a certain distance. He’s keeping his feelings for himself and mostly using his reason. Maybe he was tricked or cheated by someone in the past. He’s likely to be more aware of red flags now and prefers to have the relationship under his control.
Lover - King of Cups, 3 of Pentacles
Lover Yongseung is likely to take a dominant role in the bedroom. He’s likely to be warm, generous, patient and compassionate with his partner. He believes in teamwork and lovemaking is likely to be perfectly synchronised and balanced. He’s likely to prefer a steady routine rather than experimenting.
Husband - King of Pentacles, V The Hierophant
When it comes to marriage Yongseung is likely to be a highly traditional husband. He’s likely to marry a perfect housewife type of person who will keep his home in tip top shape and his children under control. Yongseung is likely to fiercely stick to his role as the head of a family. It needs to be said that he’s likely to take good care of his family and secure them on all levels. He’s not likely to spoil them, though, and his views might get a bit rigid.
One-Night-Stand - Knight of Wands, Queen of Cups
Yongseung is not likely to go for one night stands often. He might slip, though, now and then. Sometimes he might find himself feeling needy and about to blow out with bottled up tension. Considering he prefers to guard his heart, the one night stand is a practical way to let the steam out without consequences.

Kangmin and I pushed our way out of the gym into the crisp night air, choosing to walk around the building instead of through the hallways where we could potentially run into lingering faculty members or peers. We were enjoying our talks anyway, or at least I definitely was; I found it surprisingly easy to share things with Kangmin. Hiding in the gym, we talked about everything from classes to music, even Jesse and Sunoo. It was nice being able to share my thoughts with someone who was going through the same thing as I was: it made me feel less selfish and bitter for something that I hadn’t even asked to happen.
“Well, it’s been… surprisingly fun.” Kangmin smiled at me as we approached the glowing headlights of Jay’s car. “N-not that I didn’t think it would be fun, just not this fun, y’know? I mean, that’s still not-”
“Yeah, yeah, I got you.” I laughed. I turned my head back to where Jay’s car was waiting, catching sight of Sunoo and Jesse leaning against the side. My stomach fluttered pitifully at the way he looked at them, imagining what it would feel like to be in their place.
“Hey, y/n.” Kangmin stopped suddenly in his tracks, prompting me to pause at his side and watch him inquisitively. He shuffled his weight on his feet, letting out a shuttering laugh; I watched his face heat in real time, cheeks flushing a pretty cherry color as he looked up at me finally. “What if… we dated?” He asked.
“I, um… what?” I asked stupidly. My cheeks were surely matching his at this point, my stomach churning dangerously. We’d just spent the past hour talking about how we were enamored with other people… we barely even knew each other… “Kangmin, listen, this has definitely been fun, you’re a great friend, but I- I thought we were kind of in agreement this was just a friend thing…” I stuttered.
“No! No, no, I know! You’re- yeah, I could’ve worded that better,” he sighed, “I meant we fake date.” He said, looking at me expectantly.
“Well, why would we do that?”
“Well, we’ve spent all of our high school years and longer, even, pining after other people; we missed out on the high school dating experience, why not try it out with each other? And, I mean, the people we want aren’t exactly available to us anymore. We’ve been putting all of our time and attention into them, why not take it back?” He shrugged.
“Um-” I drew in a deep breath, looking back at Jesse and Sunoo now in a deep embrace. “I- I don’t know. I mean, I guess you have a point, but…” I trailed off, looking back at the boy with a furrowed brow.
“Don’t worry about it, I know. I don’t know what even made me think of it.” He laughed. I chuckled instinctively at the sound, quickly drowned out by the honking of a car horn suddenly sounding through the parking lot. I turned my head sharply to faintly make out Sunoo’s figure slumped over Jay’s, his hands flailing haphazardly to flash the headlights at us while I watched Jay try to fight him off back into the backseat.
“I guess that’s our cue.” I laughed, Kangmin joining in as we continued walking.
“Well, hey, about what I said-”
“No, no, it’s not a big deal. I’ll… think about it. It’s senior year, maybe we need a little drama.” I chuckled, batting my eyelashes exaggeratedly at the boy.
“You don’t have to. But we should hang out again sometime soon.” He said.
“Maybe. Good night.” I bade him farewell, not even getting to hear his response before Sunoo flung the door behind me open and pulled me backwards into the backseat.
“Good night!” Sunoo called. I watched Jesse smile and wave as I buckled my seat belt, Kangmin flinging his arm around them and copying the gesture while we pulled off.
