❝ why didn’t you wake me? ❞
the boat had lodged itself on the sandy banks of a cove along what he now knew what the vannath coast of lucis. going on the chatter he'd picked up, it was somewhere west of galdin quay, and east of caem coast.
it was lucis though.
it was solid land and they were off that fucking boat.
a hop, a clamber up worn track from the coast to top of the cliffs and a hitchhiked trip on a truck had gotten them as far as a gas station in cauthess. he knew there were two main imperial bases nearby, namely tollends stronghold and pepetouss keep, but night was closing in and reno knew they had to find a place to stay for the night before the dusk faded into black and daemons started to spawn, so this place was as good as any.
he'd pilfered some gil from that truck driver for his good deed, but needs must and the teenager had needed some currency to secure that small caravan for himself and loqi ... his little brother had fallen asleep during the truck ride to the gas station, the poor kid had been exhausted, and this was all such a shitshow - mama and papa's boat hadn't followed theirs in the hours he'd waited before leaving the coast.
the weather had been poor - perhaps their boat had veered to accordo? either way. his papa had told him to find meldacio and find a man called david auburnbrie and that was his mission right now - keep loqi safe and get to that meeting point.
shutting the flimsy door on the caravan, reno allowed himself a small exhale, dropping his guard ever so slightly now that they were in the private confines of the temporary lodgings. yes, there were still two imperial strongholds too close for comfort, but he'd take the small victories where he could right now - come first light, he'd figure out a path to meldacio.
why didn't you wake me?
reno cracked his eyes open as he heard his little brother's voice, a practiced smile on his face as he moved away from the caravan's door.
' you needed your sleep ... we're gonna stay here just for tonight and then head for where papa said he'd meet us, that sound good to you? '
Tumblr media
the teenager quirked a brow, trying to keep a positive lilt to his voice as he went to the small kitchenette, filling the kettle with water and setting it to boil. he rattled two ramen pots at his little brother, holding both out for the boy to see.
' take your pick - seafood or spicy garula? '

The Leide region

Galdin Quay:
Tumblr media
“Stunning seaside getaway situated along the Vannath Coast in southern Leide. Known not only for its world-class spa, but also for the exquisite seafood dishes crafted by Mother of Pearl’s chef de cuisine, Coctura Arlund.
While the quay currently enjoys its reputation as the kingdom’s premier resort, Gadin itself was once a quiet fishing town. That all changed when Niflheim made inroads into Lucian territory some 150 years ago and effectively put all lands outside the Crown City under imperial control. From that time onward, the former fishing village transformed into a trading post connecting the Lucian continent with the imperial province of Accordo.
In time, the empire shifted their shipping operations from the sea to the skies and Galdin’s importance as an imperial outpost diminished. What the town lost in strategic value, however, it gained in culture, gleaning heavily from Altissian immigrants drawn to Lucian shored. In that sense, one could say the quay owes its current success to the empire’s intervention.”

ever since the first time I played ffxv and started working on my own insert, I've wanted to draw or write something about the boys taking my insert to galdin quay and camp at lachyrte haven, because the idea of being at the beach and camping on the beach and just being able to fall asleep to the sound of the ocean and wake up to it and be able to walk on the sand as soon as you wake up enough, and seeing it all lit up at night and catching the blue light of the fish in the shallows and I'm just like. sighs. it's so beautiful. I wanna go. god I fuckin love the ocean. fuck

"Welcome to Galdin Quay!"
So... to start off I figured I'd mention one of my favourite fishing spots. While it isn't all that secret, the Vannath Coast still has plenty of good fishing. There's heaps of easy catches in the water so you won't need a special lure or anything, just a regular Chocobo Poppeck should be fine. Careful though, something crazy lurks in those waters. A beast so great that only a few anglers have been known to conquer it, the most legendary of which being your King of Fishing: Noct Gar! Yeah, okay,... Maybe tone it down a bit in the future, Noct. But anyway, keep on biting.

MOTHER: Cassiopeia Fiora Valmont
SIBLINGS: An older brother name Taric and a younger sister name Leona.
SPOUSE: Lucidus Telum Scientia
CHILDREN: Ignis Stupeo Scientia
Lady Merise Dumat Scientia was born to Marquis Garen Lux Caem and Marchioness Cassiopeia Fiora Valmont atop the rocky cliffs of the Valmont Leirity Seaside manor. She is the middle child and eldest daughter of the couple, prefaced by her brother Taric Furia and followed by Leona Clarel. Though her brother is heir, the two girls were still instilled with wealth of information and knowledge that would help them navigate the both the royal court and the world of Lucis Beyond the Wall for years to come.
Stern and hardworking from childhood, Merise did well in her studies, exceling in mathematics and science. Though ladylike in the company of her peers, she often enjoyed exploring out towards the River Wennath and observing wildlife.
Though not native to her region of Cleigne, Merise was quite fond of coeurls and was fascinated by them.
It is said that she quite looked up to the infamous Sylvester Yeagre and could be found poring over his published works and essays, daydreaming of a life of adventure she knew would never come.
Still, a girl could dream.
In M.E 728, the family was later moved with the main Valmont House into Insomnia after their lands had been breached and taken by the Imperial Army. Merise lost her father after the negotiations for the levy on their lands went sour. The manor and land in Cleigne were later placed in the hands of her older cousin Cyril.
Though engaged to Lord Lucidus Telum Scienita through her matching, Merise was able to wrangle and study abroad program in Altissia to bolster her background in biology, working with the marine life there and learning more about the Tidemother. She graduated from university with a Bachelor of Science for Biology and later pursued a Master of Business Administration before settling down into the Scientia Household fully.
Their marriage, of course, was not built on love or attraction but rather a mutual respect for one another. She knew Lucidus to be a hard worker and a gallant fighter who protected the shores of Vannath alongside his sister and citizens. So in spite of his sometimes crass words and temper, she came to care about him in time. And she soon saw that affection returned when it came to light that she was had difficulties conceiving. In the face of the overwhelming advice to remarry for the sake of having a higher chance of producing a child, Lucidus kept his marriage with Merise, saving her pride and reputation within the noble court.
After some years, Merise finally was with child. The announcement of her pregnancy became a celebrated event in the town of Vannath. A healthy baby boy came into the world with a strong set of lungs that could rival the waves that crashed upon the shores that evening. Ignis, the light of their lives, became Merise’s sole focus in the next coming years. She would instill upon him all of her experience and knowledge with the help of their hired tutors to prepare the boy to become a candidate for any unborn princes of Lucis.
In charge of overseeing her son’s education and training, Merise was a strict woman in her motherhood. They were behind and her brother-in-law Anton had already given birth to three children who had the educational advantage of being born within The Wall.
While present at the Treaty Signing, Merise and her husband both survived the attack on Insomnia, escaping back home to Leide before relocating to her cousin’s manor and childhood home in Leirity Seaside.
As the days began to grow shorter, much like others, Merise and her family migrated to Lestallum. Regretfully, she did not survive the ten years. Overcome with the grief of losing both homes she held dear and her siblings, Merise fell ill and passed three years before dawn would return to Eos.

“reunion” your siblings
SEND “REUNION” FOR A HEADCANON ABOUT ONE OF MY MUSE’S FAMILY MEMBERS! || @amplectormors
Joint canon with @cookignis tbh
Antoine is the eldest son of Diadumenian Eros Scientia, Duke of Vannath, and his wife Irene Vesper Scientia. He has two younger siblings: Julia Domna Scientia, Baroness Crestholm and Lucidus Telum Scientia, Marquess Formouth. Antoine and his siblings have a two-year gap between themselves, therefore he is two years older than Julia, and four years older than Lucidus.
The former Duke of Vannath has two more children by a long-standing mistress, Inez Aragon Spinola, Countess Cardona whom he all expressly recognized while he was alive: Huxley Erin Scientia and Madeleine Feliz Scientia. Though recognized and allowed to use their father’s surname, Huxley and Madeleine are barred by a special decree of the crown to inherit from their father’s noble title and estates. The decree was issued by King Mors Lucis Caelum when Irene Scientia appealed to him for permission to divorce her husband, which he refused. The decree was instead given to relieve the aggrieved Duchess.
Antoine and his legitimate siblings have little to no contact with their illegitimate siblings in their youth. The three were born and spent their early childhood in the family’s ancestral domains at Vannath Coast and nearby Crestholm and Formouth, shuttling between the family’s manor houses and palaces. They were very close, and Antoine especially loved looking after his younger sister and brother.
The family, however, was separated when King Mors shrank the Wall to the ramparts of Insomnia and ordered that all the main families of the noble houses of Lucis be perforce uprooted and relocated in the Crown City. Antoine was taken by Diadumenian into Insomnia, while Irene shuttled to and from the crown city to visit Julia and Lucidus, who were ‘abandoned’ outside the Wall.
The separation particularly embittered Lucidus, coupled with mounting pressure to be more like his outstanding elder brother, the heir to their family’s main peerage title, Duke of Vannath.
Like their forebears before them, all of Diadumenian’s children were expected to make advantageous marriages. Antoine married the daughter of the Duke of Feria, Adrienne; Julia married Clarus’ younger brother, Ian Alduin Amicitia; Lucidus married Merise Dumat Valmont. Even Huxley and Madeleine were married off to nobility, though their spouses decidedly have more minor titles than their legitimate siblings.

Veritas Lux Seculum
Hi guys! Here’s a character design sketch for my character, Veritas, for my fanfic series titled ‘Bound by Blood’. Below is also some facts about the dear girl, err, woman.
Veritas is aged twenty at the time she met Somnus who is turning twenty in the same year.
She is the youngest of three siblings. The eldest is her sister, Ancora, who married a man of the Causcherry Plains clan; they have a son of two years old. Her brother is named Urso.
Her father Vis is originally from the Shore of Caem whilst her mother, Natura, hailed from the Vannath Coast.
When her mother is pregnant with her, her father decided to seek refuge at the Citadel to escape the tensions between warring states. He knew that it was only a matter of time before the states would be at each other’s throats. And he was right.
Veritas was born in the Citadel during spring.
Growing up in the Citadel, she was still surrounded by her family’s tribal culture because both her parents continued on with their practices while adapting to the rules of the Citadel.
Veritas, like her mother, is barely at five feet in height. She also has small hands and feet and her face carries a certain youthfulness that people mistake her for being younger than she actually was.
She has a fondness of the ocean and would always climb the walls of the Citadel just to see the huge expanse of oceans and the way they blend well with the skies, causing trouble with the guards...if caught, that is.
She’s shy and rarely goes out to meet other people. But when in private, Veritas is considered the goofball of the family. She’s always ready for a joke or two and is even known to love laughter more than anything else.
Veritas can be trusted with herbs and embroidery, but never with cleaning.
She is learning how to make bread without burning them. The only thing she can cook well is soup.
Her parents are both learned people and they taught her how to read and write. But most of the things she currently knows she learned from the libraries of the Citadel...and her mentor, Ardyn.
Sometimes she acts rather brutish and always hangs out with her brother in his forays into the woods and loves it whenever he teaches her how to wrestle.
She has a habit of playful punching. She’s considered a tomboy but she doesn’t look like it. Instead, she looks rather coy that people would be surprised to know that she actually acts differently from their impression of her. Somnus Izunia fell for this coy exterior and was rather surprised when she tackled him off his chocobo for insulting her.
Veritas loves to walk barefoot, much to her sister’s dismay. But when they bought her a pair of sandals bought from a travelling tradesman, she immediately wore them and had never worn any other footwear after that.
She is the least pickiest of eaters in the family. She can survive the day eating only nuts and berries as well as thin slices of bread with butter or cheese. As long as she gets to drink hot tea, then she’s fine.
She’s rather clumsy and would often times fall or trip even on flat surfaces.
Veritas has a canine companion. There are not a lot of dogs in the Citadel so she was surprised to find a dog following her about. She never knew the owner so she kept her. She had to register her at the offices to keep her, though. She got in trouble when her new fluffy friend peed on the head officer. Later she met him alongside Ardyn Izunia. His name was Arctos and he is a friend of Tonitrus. He proves to be a kind man despite his initial frightening demeanour.
Veritas likes to wake up early in the morning but she suffers from bouts of insomnia from time to time, though she still manages to wake up before dawn. One would not be surprised to see her falling asleep or staggering in broad daylight in sleepiness. But when something has caught her excitement, expect her to forget that she barely slept at all.
When she’s close with someone, she’s not afraid to be sarcastic.
She met Ardyn when she was nineteen and he was already twenty three. The older man found himself being chased by a hive of bees when he was trying to gather leaves for his medicine practices. The young lass immediately pulled him inside a house that has its door left open and closed it. Ardyn thanked her for her aid, only to find both of them running like crazy when they realized they were inside a stable of untamed Mesmenirs.
After that, they befriended one another. Ardyn became a mentor and brother figure to Veritas, who in turn taught Ardyn herb craft which is a family practice.
She visits Ardyn’s study most of the time. It is through Ardyn that she learned of higher studies like philosophy, higher thinking, history, science, literature and even military tactics. She hated politics and arithmetics.
She accidentally met Ardyn’s younger brother, Somnus, when she was twenty. She and Somnus turned out to be the same age.
Their first meeting was a disaster as Somnus, despite Veritas healing him from a ghastly wound in the chest while they were inside the Great Halls of the Six, realized that she was originally what he calls an ‘Outsider’.
The two would clash each time they’d meet, though Veritas tried her best to avoid the seething youth. Somnus on the other hand, always seems to seek her just to spite her origins.
In the next few meetings, Ardyn would try and reconcile the two and in time they did. Though it is an everyday occurrence to see Veritas and Somnus arguing all the time even about the most mundane of things.
Somnus is the one who started calling her Vera since he wouldn’t say her full name as it ‘tangles his tongue’. He’s the only one who does so, though.
Veritas is loyal to fault, almost in naivety.
She is the only one in her family to start believing in the Astrals and she would slip in to the Great Halls of the Six just to pray and ask guidance.
She hopes that one day, all the clans of the continent would be united. Not by a king or queen, but by mutual understanding, but she knows that’s a pipe dream. Somnus kept telling her that the only way to achieve peace is war, that it is inevitable to clash against the other in order to have that most coveted unity.
Has a habit of cracking her knuckles -- it sets off Gilgamesh.
She can be rather good at stealth as well and this helps her sneak around in places where she’s not allowed.
Saves Ardyn the hassle of gathering herbs for his medicine for she brings them herself, along with freshly baked bread which Somnus covets like a soldier would covet weapons.
Alrighty, that’s it for now! You can learn more about Veritas through my ‘Bound by Blood’ series and in my other writings as well. As a quick note without revealing too much, Veritas ends up an immortal that’s why we see her in the rest of the fics during the modern Lucian timeline. More will be revealed about her soon and her on-going dance of swords with Somnus.

a letter with that stamp mark left no doubt of where it had come from. but there were none of the usual jokes or banter he usually filled the page with, instead there was a fare to the crown city and a quick message, ' you said you'd visit some day - you bought me a ticket, time to repay the message. '
It was strange to get mail from the Crown City. When the boys had first gone there, of course there had been letters home every week or two. They’d been training in the city then, plenty of time to sit and write home about all the happenings. But the War got closer and the glaive were deployed more and more - out onto the front-line of Lucis. Sarah had listened to the radio announcements or watched the news channel on the bar’s TV; Alstor Slough, Taelpar, Leide, even as far as the Caem area a few times; the imperials dropped troops wherever and whenever they pleased, and it was the Kingsglaive who were sent to deal with them when things got too much for the locals.
Out into the field, then back to the Crown City, more training, some rest if they were lucky and then repeat it all again. So it was no wonder the correspondence from Nyx and Libertus had dried up. But now she sat at her bare kitchen table and eyeballed the letter warily; why send a letter now?
Tumblr media
A bolt of fear raced through her for a terrible second and she wondered if something had happened Nyx; was this a condolence letter from the higher-ups? Relief flooded her when she recognised Nyx’s handwriting on the envelope and opened it to find a note from him. ‘you said you’d visit some day - you bought me a ticket, time to repay the message.’ The ticket fell onto the table with a small flutter; passage from Galahd and to the mainland, then on into Insomnia itself. Why now? That was the question that turned around and around in her head for days afterwards, as the date on the ticket drew closer and closer. She made so many excuses; she had the bar to think of and her house. A bar that pulled in little to no business, a house that was far too lonely for one person and a town of people who were only mere remnants of the community that had thrived before the imperial raid.
So Sarah grabbed what little clothes she had and tossed them into a bag. Across the choppy seas and into Vannath Coast just north of Galdin; she could see the resort from their small ferry, but the movement of the other travelers drew her on with them; a few dusty old trucks were parked up and waiting and she recognised the dogtags around the drivers’ necks as signs they were hunters. There was a hunter outpost in Leide if she remembered correctly. It was early the next day by the time the trucks reached the Insomnia checkpoint and that was where the hunters left her and the others seeking passage into the city. Checks, questions, security scans, more questions until she was finally in the City. Below the magic Wall that had once covered their islands. It felt both familiar and strangely uncomfortable. Asking a few city guards for directions, scouring signposts and then some lucky guesswork brought her to the front of the Kingsglaive’s barracks, waiting on a bench and standing every time one of the black-garbed soldiers walked out. Then Sarah would sit down again, only to feel her heart leap into her mouth as the next glaive walked out and wasn’t Nyx or Libertus.
But eventually she stood up and stayed standing, eyes narrowing and focusing on one man, as if she could mistake him for anyone else; he looked just like his father now more than ever. Smiling weakly when she saw Nyx’s eyes fall on her, she wrung her hands together and felt suddenly choked up. “I got your message.”

She was careful with him, gentle. She tried to be firm, too. But she couldn’t for long. Her son was hurting and it tore at Ida’s heart. Sitting down with him once more, Ida tried to reach out for his hand. “Reno… I thought about building something small at the Vannath coast. Something for your father. To remember him. To have a place for that.” Not a grave. She avoided saying that, she couldn’t. A memorial? A shrine? Who knew… Ida just hoped it could curb some of their pain. “What do you think?
loqi’s questions still lingered in his head - the words his little brother had spat at dave too ... he had just copied what he’d seen his big brother do, and that had a solid lump of lead sitting in the pit of reno’s stomach. he may as well have written down those words and handed them to loqi.
the teenager didn’t want him to be like him though - he wanted him to be like kim; laughing at cartoons on the television, fighting imaginary monsters and just being little kids.
‘ we can’t go to the vannath coast - galdin is the main dock of lucis, even if they aren’t looking for us, there will still be imperial agents in lucis because of this war and they’ll be keeping the gateway to accordo under watch. ’
it wasn’t a flat-out refusal, not the vehement denial he might have offered a few weeks ago, nor was there the venom that had become a constant in his voice - if anything, he just sounded tired; dejected.
a memorial or marker meant she thought he was dead. she genuinely believed he had perished that night ... it meant he wasn’t coming back - he couldn’t give back that signet ring. he couldn’t yell and be angry at him for leaving them like this for so long - he couldn’t take back all the cruel words he’d used so many times back in gralea.
but he could do some damage control on the ones he’d hurled over the last few weeks?
Tumblr media
‘ that girl,’ reno leaned his forearms on the rail of the house’s porch, nodding his head across to where selena was speaking to ezma, ‘ she’s from galahd ... they have a custom there apparently, sending off these paper lanterns on the water to give thanks or remember people ... risorath basin is closer and there won’t be imperials this far from the coast. ’

Coming to Lucis wasn’t something he’d expected to occur so swiftly, but here they were. The seaside city of Galdin Quay spanned beautifully in the sunrise, the tops of verdant jungles tipped in gold as the Vannath Coast splayed almost endlessly. Rustic and artful architecture peeked out whilst fishing vessels and pleasure schooners alike bobbed on the waves drenched in shimmering sunlight. Of all the places in Lucis, he thought this might recall the most like Karnaca in a way that was more inviting than not. Seated informally on the deck of what had been his father’s yacht, he whistled low at the view.
“Damn, pretty nice for a morning. You want a look before we dock, Corvo? You won’t want to miss it, promise.”

That sentence cut deeply, but Ida supposed she did not deserve better for outright lying to this man’s face so blatantly. Tourist. Of course that wouldn’t fit. None of them on this boat had been tourists. It had just been the first excuse that had come to her mind when this man had asked. And she was angry at herself for it. Usually she wasn’t that careless in keeping her profile low and hidden. It had been the top priority for them. For Baldur and her.
And yet, ever since the ship they had hidden on with several others had been sought out and attacked… she could still hear the gunshots and yelling. Orders that everyone had ignored in a struggle to flee and hide away. The dark water had been colder than she had expected. Harsher, too. And somewhere there Baldur’s hand had slipped from hers.
And without these Lucians surely none of those who had clung to anything to keep them afloat would have made it. Of course they weren’t tourists.
What a foolish excuse.
Wrapping the woollen blanket they had given her tighter around her shoulders, Ida looked up properly at this man again. She was tired of this anyway. And lost. If they had made it to Lucis there was hope. For her to see her boys again. If not… or if these men and women were aligned with Niflheim, she wouldn’t make it any further anyway.
But she had to try. Swallow down these fears and nightmares that had come for her ever since being split with her husband and move forward. There still was their goal. There still was their sons.
“Nifen. I am from Niflheim. I am looking for two boys. A teenager and a child. They went to a place called Meldacio.”
Tumblr media
Things like this happened a lot more than people realised. The boats at Galdin had once been ferries to places like Galahd, the other archipelagos and Accordo too. But it was also the only place along the coast that was safe to land a boat - the west coast was all jagged cliffs and dangerous swells, the same went for the south down by Caem, so that only left the wide Vannath coast for anyone tryin’ to get to Lucis. And there was more and more folk tryin’ to make it across the seas lately. But those seas were still dangerous.
Folk fleein’ from the Protectorate as the Empire closed their hold around Accordo. People from the outer islands who sought better conditions on the mainland. But lady didn’t look like she was from Accordo or some of the smaller islands; she looked completely lost, huddled on the small rescue boat the hunters near Galdin had launched. Word had it their ship had been attacked. Some said it was the empire, others said the Accordo forces sank it. Either way, it didn’t matter to these poor folk.
They had no where else to go, so the hunters had taken them to Prairie. There’d been no time to stop at Galdin in case whoever attacked the ship was comin’ to the dock in search of survivors. Some people wanted passage to Insomnia, so Dave charged them to another truck headed for Hammerhead. This lady though, she didn’t ask for passage to the Crown City, instead offerin’ the weak excuse she was a tourist. It almost earned a snort of laughter from Dave. “I understand yer scared ma’am, but we’re here to help ya. I swear.”
Tumblr media
He left a bowl of hot soup on the dusty table in front of her, taking a look around when the woman finally admitted where she had come from. Fleeing from the empire itself? Geez, first he’d heard o’ that. But it was the mention of his own home that made Dave pause. Those two boys. “Ma’am is yer surname Tummelt?”

Galdin Quay
Tumblr media
Stunning seaside getaway situated along the Vannath Coast in southern Leide.  Known not only for its world-class spa, but also for the exquisite seafood dishes crafted by Mother of Pearl’s chef de cuisine, Coctura Arlund.
While the quay currently enjoys its reputation as the kingdom’s premier resort, Gladin itself was once a quiet fishing town.  That all changed when Niflheim made inroads into the Lucian territory some 150 years ago and effectively put all lands outside the Crown City under imperial control.  From that time onward, the former fishing village transformed into a trading post connecting the Lucian continent with the imperial province of Accordo.
In time, the empire shifted their shipping operations from the sea to the skies, and Galdin’s importance as an imperial outpost diminished. What the town lost in strategic value, however, it gained in culture, gleaning heavily from Altissian immigrants drawn to Lucian shores.  In that sense, one could say the quay owes its current success to the empire’s intervention.
