Like! The fact that you can literally, very easily track down where 'rich suave vampires' comes from is just so! Blatant. A very easy answer to 'why are they depicted like that'. So many of the tropes in modern vampire media you can literally point out the source work for it if you did just a tiny bit of research!
And yet! So many don't question why? Where did it come from and what purpose did it serve in the story it came from? And why do you want to include it in yer work other than you saw other people do it?! Does this actually work for the story yer trying to tell or are you just trying to shove a square peg in a round hole b/c you think that's just how it has to be?!
It vexes and boggles

I am beyond thrilled that we are no longer making Dracula default sexy man and acknowledging the heroism of the of our thatch of heroes. I very much agree that the way that monsters have been made sexy can be abusive, and problematic.
However, one of the things missing from the Dracula discourse that I've seen on here is the reason behind the romanticization of monstrous leads that happened in the 20th century.
As you've noticed a good deal of the villains in this story and other Gothic stories have a tendency to be societal others. Adam from Frankenstein was composed of condemned men, prisoners. Heathcliff was a Rroma man, and Dracula being Eastern European is not insignificant.
I made the same mistake when I was breaking down Dracula in college; when I looked at a picture, and the description that Bram stoker gave of him seemed like a pretty accurate description in black and white.
I didn't understand the idea that through the sosial framework of our writer blorbos that what reads as a fairly generic description of Vlad Tepes would have been understood to be an anti-Semitic caricature by the people of the time. Particularly the readers who were educated upper middle class & aristocratic white readers.
So the 20th century when people got the chance to start flipping the trope on its head that the other must be an inherent threat, that the other must even if it is sympathetic be tragic, that the other must bring chaos to good people, the monsters then became sexy, interesting, nuanced they became leads, or at least the most popular characters like happened with the Disney Villans. I don't think it's any coincidence that the breadth of this flip really started to happen post-WW2, and our monsters and villains were being played & written by the very people who had escaped fascism.

I need a Vampire x Human series but the main couple had gotten together right off the bat in like 19 century and the human got turn into a vampire just to stay with the vampire forever
The catch is back in 19 century they were both young and dumb and now they grew apart but since they’re literally the only immortal in the area they just— stay together as this passive aggressive divorced couple who live together for convenience

Cyberpunk 2077 - Vampire AU
It's been in my head for a while and I'm not sure where I'm going with it but I've always loved Vampires I find there different interpretations and folklore around them fascinating and I remembered Gary's rants about the Arasaka's and thought It would be fun to run with it with a little twist.
so here it is chapter one of Dark tower - I really want to improve my writing so any feed back is welcome just bare in mind I have no beta reader, and I'm dyslexic AF so go easy on me lol I'm trying to get better at grammar but Grammarly can only help me so far. it is something I have always struggled with.
I hope you enjoy or are at least amused by my attempt at whatever genre this counts as, maybe dark fantasy??? its a little spicey to as I enjoy writing that but I'm going to try and not go overboard lol
Tropes: Mates, Vampire bonds that sort of thing
I'm not trying to make characters OOC but I'm sure there will be a little bit of that but I'll try my best not to, obviously with it being an alternative universe there will be a few liberties taken as characters have lived differently than the game and that will effect personality's

I hate the dog-ification of werewolves >:( I by making them happy dumbos it misses the best part of transformative monstrosity: repression. If you aren't afraid of the beast within what's the fucking point. It's the big bad wolf lurking on moonlit nights it's not your golden retriever in the park at noon. Justice for repression!! Justice for the beast within!! Justice for the fear of who you could be if you really let loose! Is the monster your true self? Does the thrill of the wild outweigh the guilt that comes in the light of day, when there's mud on your feet and blood on your hands? What does it mean that you crave that which disgusts you, that the wolf isn't just something you become, it's something you always were

Modern vampire fiction: Vampires are scheming masterminds whose plots cannot be fathomed by mortal man.
Bram Stoker's Dracula (1897): Most people become mindless animals when they turn into vampires; Dracula is exceptional in that he retained any intelligence at all, but he's still dumb as hell, and his schemes literally only work because he's rich.

Can we bring up the fact that Laszlo, up until this point, has never been interested in Guillermo (that wasn't out of boredom, necessity or putting him down - I'm talking genuine interest (and dare I say slight concern?) in him), or literally anything he had to say or what he did throughout the day. Not even once. But here Laszlo is, constantly bringing up the topic of Guillermo's seemingly odd behavior to the other vampires - also showcasing that he's paid enough attention to him to where he can recognize that Guillermo's not acting like his usual~ self. I also noticed that Laszlo praised Guillermo's familiar duties (has he ever complimented him before? Idts) and proclaimed to Nandor on his own that he agreed with Guillermo that Nandor was using hypnosis too much. He even said "Ah! There he is." to himself when Guillermo showed up after he and Nandor met up with Nadja after they got out of jail, meaning that he was still thinking of Guillermo even when he was hanging out with Sean and Nandor and after all the crazy excitement that happened that night. And in the end it turned out that he kind of was concerned about Guillermo because he told him he pretty much thought he had a bad stomach ache and wanted to tell him to be careful about what he eats. Aww.
I think Laszlo co-parenting with Guillermo towards baby Colin Robinson last season sparked an interest (and respect) in Guillermo, and I love finally seeing their relationship develop, and I look forward to seeing them bond more this season (even if it is baby steps lol But in a way it's the total opposite because Laszlo has never talked about/to Guillermo this much in one season before, much less the series as a whole, and I am loving every second of it).

Price who knew Simon before Roba. Who thought he was a good kid, disciplined solider and got along well with him.
Price who then found out about what happened and decided to check up on Simon when he was cleared to come back.
Price who thought Ghost’s aversion to food was a trauma response. Who thought him staying up all night was because of nightmares and joked that he needed to stop covering himself up when he went outside because, “you’re as pale as a ghost.”
Price who noticed Ghost’s irises were red, not brown, but always thought it was the trick of the light or the fact that his eye color was always dark.
Price who noticed his strange speed and strength. Who began to get a little concerned when Ghost started getting aggressive, how he always blamed it on him being “hungry”.
Eventually one night, after noticing how strange Ghost was acting, he went to confront him only to see Ghost eating what he assumed was a rat.
Price who had to take a moment on whether or not he should call for Ghost’s removal from the military due to psychological distress or to politely ask him what the fuck was going on.
Only for Ghost to look back at him shocked but with hungry eyes that Price could only describe as “not human”.
Ghost who had to explain what exactly happened with Roba and how he’s different, how strange everything’s been, how he can’t go out into the sun without feeling like he has a sunburn or how he sees better in pitch black darkness and how no matter how many times he tries to eat real food he just throws it back up, so he resorted to drinking blood.
Price who had to take a long time to sit with this information before he took action, making sure it was only him who knew about this and making sure Ghost never hurt anyone when he got too “hungry”.
Price who trained him to cope better with daylight and helped him with his new found strength and speed. Who told him the only people who could drink from were enemies and that if that wasn’t an option he’d give his own blood.
Price who now as the leader of the 141 is the only one who knows what Ghost really is and refuses to disclose other information about it to save his lieutenant from other experiments.
