I'm doing a P.D rewatch and going through all the things and feelings, currently on season 6 (peak season for me), but was just wondering what your honest opinion on the whole Upzek 'relationship' is?

I'm salty that they got hotter scenes than Upstead (apart from 9x09 😏) and I agree it probably shouldn't have gone on for as long as it did, especially under the circumstances, but I really don't think it's as bad as some people insist it was 🤷‍♀️

Season 6 is the superior pre-canon Upstead season in my opinion, too!

I liked Upzek for what they were - hot coworkers who shouldn't have been dating but were using each other for a little bit of (hot) comfort and a bit of normalcy. They were hot together, the scenes were hot, and I liked that it allowed us to see more and learn more about Hailey. They (and everyone watching) knew they weren't endgame and I really don't think they ever tried to make it more than it was.

And some of my very favorite Upstead scenes are directly caused by Upzek being a thing (the scene in the bar, "we're good and we're always gonna be good" etc.) so I can't find fault in that either.

They dated like five or so episodes too long, especially because we didn't see anything about them for several episodes and then they were suddenly breaking up - it could have been sooner and had just as much/little emotional impact, depending on how you felt about it.

Mostly I'm all for two hot people hooking up, and it was okay because they knew and we knew they were both meant for someone else and this wasn't going to stop that from eventually happening.

So like... did I love them for each other? No, but they were hot and sometimes you just a hot friend to find some comfort in.

I don't mean to dredge up old drama in the fandom but what is your opinion on upzek?

Eh, probably not as volatile as other opinions may be. They very clearly weren't right for each other, but people date the wrong people sometimes. It's part of life. I think that relationship served its purpose in the grand scheme of things. If anything, I think it just carried on too long.

Yeah, that's all I got. I didn't like them together, but I'm not frothing at the mouth at the thought of them either. It was what it was, and it worked out in the end.

when Jay was kidnapped in 7x09 "Absolution" and there was the conversation between Adam and Hailey do you think Adam knew Hailey loved Jay?

I would think so. If you think back to the Upzek break-up conversation in 6x20, Adam had told Hailey that working together and being together is complicated. And Hailey added that isn't the only reason why they don't work. Although it wasn't specifically mentioned, we can infer that Hailey was talking about her feelings for Jay and Adam's feelings for Kim.

So yeah, I do think in 7x09, Adam knew about Hailey's feelings for Jay and that she loved him.

Why does this ask come across as so aggressive and unnecessary? Like what's with the implication that Ciara would delete something and pretend like they never said it? (also sidenote, Ciara uses they/them pronouns which you might want to keep in mind in you're going to reference them).

Anyway, as for what you've actually said, do I think it's possible that Upstead break up and Upzek get back together? I mean, yeah, of course it's possible. Burzek aren't together, Upstead are in a... weird place... it's incredibly possible that this scenario happens. Even if Jay was still on the show and Burzek were together it's still a possibility. At the end of the day these characters and their relationships are entirely at the whim of the writers.

Now, do I think it's probable that this happens? Nah. Upzek were good for what they were and while Ciara is right that (to my memory) they technically never officially "broke up" only suggested a "break" they've never hinted at anything romantic between them since. It's been years at this point and while it's not out of the realm of possibility for writers to drag it back up out of nowhere (it's been done before) I don't think an endgame Upzek was ever the point of that relationship.

So possible yes, probable no, and I don't like the tone of this ask.

I’ve always seen the friendship between Tracy and Paddy like a cute brothers and sister bond. That’s why putting them together in s6 made me so uncomfortable. For me it was like watching an incest it was too weird. Their chemistry was non existent because they’re great as friends.

Oh I agree. I can admit that some of their scenes were hot, but at the same time I also had to watch every one of them like this🫣

what is your opinion on upzek? love them or hate them you cant deny hailey helped adam grow more during their relationship than kim had helped him grow during theirs. “things are different now im different now” yes thank you to hailey. kim accepted him for who he is flaws and all which is good but maybe not what he needed? maybe he needed someone like hailey to call him out on his bullshit and fix him.

No strong opinions on upzek either way. They needed each other at that point but they were never going to last. I mean all your experiences and relationships (platonic or otherwise) help you to grow into the person you become. So I don't necessarily disagree.

Being together definitely helped them both in terms of figuring out what they wanted, and learning things about themselves so I think it was a good thing overall to happen, for both Adam and Hailey.

The easy banter and chatting in the middle of the night between Adam and Hailey is so lovely. I really like how they’ve managed to get from exes (I appreciate their relationship at the time for what it was and the function it had in their growth) to such a nice and supportive friendship.
