This is a post I've been sitting on for a while and it's time I finally write it to let you all know how I am, where I'm at and the progress of Prosiect Llyfr Enfys.

So, as I alluded to in previous posts, I had a health scare at the end of May which landed me in the hospital. I've spent June recovering from that and dealing with a few life changes as well (which I will talk about later).

Unfortunately, me and my partner had to deal with an unexpected bill of £200 this month which had to come directly out of my savings and is a huge chunk of it.

I've been doing research in preparation for hopefully doing a Masters at Aberystwyth in September on the topic of LGBTQ+ Welsh terminology before the 20th Century. My undergraduate dissertation was on the topic of 20th-21st Century LGBTQ+ Welsh terminology (which is currently unmarked due to the marking boycott). Hopefully after graduation I can share it with you. But my research into older terminology means needing to travel to different archives and libraries in Wales, which at the minute, I just can't afford. The closest place would be Bangor, but I have no money to spare at the minute and Prosiect Llyfr Enfys is not funded by any scheme or grant- it's currently all funded by myself.

For the first time in my life, I've been considering using a food bank. We're not quite at that stage yet, but it's precarious. It's another unexpected bill away from a critical situation.

Currently, my monthly expenses for anything related to the dictionary totals around £40 (subscriptions to archives, libraries, genealogy research tools) which have been instrumental in my work. For example, I couldn't have written my articles for Hanes LHDT+ Cymru without access to ancestry sites or online newspaper archives. This does not include other expenses such as bus tickets to get to the National Library of Wales when I need to, or costs of purchasing dictionaries in order to source them in my work.

All of this is to say that i need your help:

If I'm unable to raise enough funds, I will have to make the decision to pause the project until after my Master's. I do not currently have a publisher, which is also a big factor in that decision, if I need to make it.

Vent vent vent about money n shit

Older sister just closed out on a $1.4mil home today, younger sister about to graduate in a year with her doctorate degree, and I’m over here crying all day because I keep getting medical bills that are putting me deeper and deeper in debt. Thought I was going to take care of all my debt this year, and I feel like I’m not even close to getting there anymore. I feel like my dream of getting a house and starting a family soon is just non existent anymore and I feel like I’m running out of time.

I don’t know where I fucking went wrong in my family, like why did I have to be sibling that got the shit end of the stick? I know there’s always a sibling that is the “fuck up” but I don’t want to be that fucking person, man. I’ve been living in my sister’s shadows since I was in middle school and recently with all their accomplishments I’ve been feeling like such a fucking failure.

I never hear anyone saying how they’re “proud of me” or my “accomplishments”, instead they ask me when I’m going back to school. No one cares that I’ve spent the last 10 + years just trying to survive, not off myself, and make it to adulthood. No one mentions that I pulled myself out of mental illness hell by myself just so I could keep going for everyone else around me.

No one fucking cares about you in this world unless you make enough money to look like you “made it”.

God I wish working retail paid as much as my Bullshit Job. It’s not like I had a special passion for shipping packages and interfacing with customers but it was a concrete physical task and I enjoyed the company of my coworkers and reading in my downtime, which during certain times of year and in certain franchise locations was ample. Nobody fucking emailed me. When I got home I was free; I didn’t worry about contracts and security filings and the endless compounding empty abstraction that is inspecting the ledgers of wealthy people’s Monopoly money. And this current state of affairs is a privilege. I have a good job by any objective metric. One of many reasons I endeavor not to bitch. But I’m feeling bitchy!

i shouldnt even have tried to go to work today 😵‍💫 i was doing a late start hoping for the ice to melt and at 11:30am i was like ohh it’s raining, the solid sheet of ice covering the ground looks slushy enough to walk on, i need the hours…then i ventured outside and immediately fell off my porch cuz it was still frozen, had to penguin walk 5 blocks to the bus stop which took like 4x as long as usual, fell again, stepped in several hidden slush puddles, finally got to the bus stop only to see that the next bus was canceled, realized that the walk from the bus to work was even longer and that i would have to do it again in just a few hours bc i was already so late, at which point i was like “you know what, fuck this actually” and texted my boss as much and started making my way home…accidentally turned down the wrong block for several minutes bc i was paying such close attn to my foot placement and then while backtracking i ate serious shit on a patch of black ice and bruised tf out of my knees 🥲 i pray no one was filming me from their window
