What do you think the night before Mello and Matt’s death was like? Were they grieving? Were they happy they got to live for as long as they could?
Also, would they have already been together or would they have proclaimed their love the night before their deaths?
I gotta know what you think!! x
I have a scenario written out for this but we're here for visual art not literature, so I'm gonna break it down as short as I can.
As far as I’m concerned, we don’t really know what Mellos canon plan was with the whole kidnapping thing but I don’t think Mello would’ve so easily accepted to go on a kamikaze-mission just to help Near reach his goal. The man had a plan to get out of this as a winner. So I don’t think him and Matt were actively closing off their lives that evening. But they knew their plan was risky as hell and it's wearing down on Mello big time in either universe.
That evening includes Mello overthinking, pacing, absolutely losing his shit, having anxiety/panic attacks, Matt trying to calm him down, Matt talking Mellos ears off about Zelda lore as a distraction method and them finally surrendering to sleepiness.
In 2.1 they would already be together for almost 2 years but I like the idea of a last minute love proclamation in a moment of intimacy. Highly recommend reading Bedsheet Confessional by @not-orphaned-account, which is pretty close to what I imagine went down that night.

Mods are asleep, post fixed Kakyoin rewrite/headcanons
i don't really have a rewrite since I never got into SDC enough. I didn't get into SDC enough because it felt like they were barely friendly most of the time. I think they leaned too hard into Jotarp being cool and stoic and never fucking up, and the story revolves around him mostly so I didn't get invested (*he* barely felt invested but I hear it's less Than on the manga). The most emotional beat was Avdol and Polnareff actually bonding, but it didn't feel like the other characters did
My opinion: we don't need 700 villains in one part. It's a roadtrip story. Make them like, eat foreign foods together and get drunk and be friends. And THEN kill them.
I've not watched Vrains but seeing you post about it makes my day every time. Every new Yusaku autism-core post I see I grin and say "yeeeeees"
Every time I think yugioh can't make a more autism protagonist, they delight in proving me wrong.
I know technically Yusaku's obsession with calming himself down by listing things in threes is because of his backstory, but also. Come on. No neurotypical would talk like this while trying to call an ambulance. When he first did it, I started happy stimming so hard. A MAIN CHARACTER! WITH ARITHMOMANIA!!!
His facial animation is stunning. I was so impressed by how far 5Ds got with having a character with limited expressiveness, and VRAINS just keeps raising the bar for me. Animated characters who don't smile/emote very much but still have unique facial animation while still having a Resting B#$% Face my BELOVED
Look at him! I'm obsessed!
He canonically has insomnia related to his ptsd. His best friends drag him for having zero social skills. AI REFERS TO HIM AS HAVING "THE EMPATHY OF A MOLLUSK."
He will just nope out on conversations midway through and I will never stop cheering about it.
All the yugioh protagonists are extremely autism, but Yusaku is a canonically compulsive, unemotive, low-empathy, zero social skills autistic and STILL THE HEROIC MAIN CHARACTER and I am LIVING FOR IT.
Korean dramas with ‘unemotional’ characters both break and heal me, all at once. Do Hyun Soo from Flower of Evil practicing smiling and studying physiognomy to pass as a ‘normal’, socially acceptable human being is SO me as a teenager, only without the background drama. I wish I watched something like that back then.
Partly, Sherlock had me hooked for the same reason—a certain character type, only in Sherlock lack of emotional response is considered to be a moral flaw that can be remedied by telling a person, "How can you be so unfeeling? Do better!"—and not something physical one might want to change but doesn’t know how to.
"Max is so unemotional!!!" And the sentimental motherfucker (affectionate) recreated Seb's hand gesture as tribute to him (which has left hundreds wounded including moi), is tearing up and giving everyone around him the biggest hugs bffrl
also generally "unemotional one" + "overly emotional one" is one of my favorite character dynamics ever. mickey and oswald & sans and papyrus are there for me always Im sorry people don't understand you. I do ❤️🩵
tbh i think the coldest and most shocking thing that can happen in an argument with this man is if you call him "john" and he corrects you to "constantine". biggest red flag you can find on the play. sounds pretentious when you're not experiencing it. means he's absolutely fucking furious with you.
